2023 ILCA U-21 World Championships

The 2023 ILCA Under 21 World Championships will be hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Tangier October 15–22 in the coastal city of Tangier, Morocco.

The Royal Yacht Club of Tangier offers a range of services and amenities for yacht owners and enthusiasts, including mooring facilities, a restaurant, bar, and swimming pool. The club also hosts sailing events and regattas throughout the year.

Tangier Marina, also known as Tanger Marina or Tanja Marina, is a luxury marina and residential development in the city of Tangier. The marina features state-of-the-art facilities and services, including a yacht club, restaurants and bars, shops, and many other amenities.

Tangier is a unique and historic city located in the northwest corner of Morocco, at the point where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. The city has a rich cultural heritage and has been a hub of trade and commerce for centuries. It is known for its beautiful beaches, picturesque medina (old town), and vibrant markets. Visitors to Tangier can also take day trips to nearby attractions such as the ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis and the seaside town of Asilah. Tangier has a number of beautiful beaches that are perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports, including Malabata, Plage de la Corniche, and Plage de Tanger.

The entry closing date for the 2023 ILCA U-21 World Championships is September 19, 2023 . Registration and inspection for the event will open on October 15, and opening ceremonies kick off the championships the following day. Qualifying series begin on October 17, followed by the final series, before the event comes to a close on October 22 with the prize-giving ceremony.

The 2023 ILCA U-21 World Championship will be held in Tangier, MOROCCO at the Royal Yacht Club de Tanger.

This is a restricted entry allocated championship. Sailors wishing to enter must first complete an application form, accessible through the menu above.

Total entry for this event is limited to 120 sailors in Men's fleet and to 70 sailors in Women's fleet.

COVID-19 Notice  

It is the intention and goal of the organizing authority to hold this event as scheduled. As everyone can recognize, the COVID-19 pandemic is ongoing and many travel restrictions have been in place for some time. Although the organizers are hopeful for improvements, the situation remains dynamic and it is not clear what changes in circumstances will occur as we move forward. The situation is being regularly monitored and any decisions that are made affecting the schedule of the event will be communicated with applicants as soon as possible after being made. 

Event organizers cannot provide guarantees against potential travel restrictions for any specific individuals at any time. As we move through the application and entry process,  it is up to each potential competitor to evaluate his or her personal situation and make logistical and financial decisions about their ability to participate and the possible risks involved.

Specified in the Notice of Race:  After entry applications are opened and until the start of the event the organizing authority will monitor the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic or other potential disruptions to the event and, having regard for the health and safety of all participants as well as any government travel restrictions or government mandated conditions on gatherings that affect participation in or conduct of the event, may at its sole discretion:

  - Postpone or cancel the event,   - Change the status of the event from a World Championship to an International Regatta,    - Alter the maximum number of entries,   - Reduce a country’s allocated number of places,   - Make any other decision deemed necessary in the circumstances.

Charter Boats

A limited number of charter boats will be available for this event. The charter boats will be supplied on a launching trolley as a hull with self-bailer, padded hiking strap, spars (composite mast top section, appropriate bottom section and a boom), centreboard and rudder in carry bag, mainsheet side cleats, control line deck block fitting with blocks and control line deck cleat fitting with cleats.

Competitors shall provide their own ropes, boom vang, mainsheet block with spring or similar, traveler blocks and line, sail and battens, tiller and tiller extension, outhaul and cunningham control set, and adjustment rope/shock-cord for hiking strap. Competitors may  provide their own hiking strap, which must be installed by the Charter Provider.

Charter Boat Fees:    Pre-Regatta Training (10 October – 14 October):  EUR €495    Regatta (15 October – 22 October): EUR €1045    Refundable Damage Deposit: EUR €450
