The first of the longreach power catamarans launch.
With over two years of design, development, and construction, the first of the Longreach power catamarans take to the water. Here is our first look at the stunning new Longreach Expedition ‘Sunrise III’ days after launching from Ocean Marina in Thailand as the factory undertakes sea trials the owners prepare to go cruising.
With a top speed of 20 knots the boat has the power to get out of weather fast thanks to the twin diesel python shaft drive motors, but drop that speed back to a comfortable cruising speed of 11.5 knots, and the displacement hull efficiently slices through the water consuming just 2.8 litres per Nautical Mile or 31 L per hour combined, providing a range of approximately 2,000 nautical miles. The optional 10,000 litre fuel tanks provide a range of over 3,500 nautical miles.
There are just under 5kw of solar panels on the flybridge hardtop powering the 24 kw lithium battery bank to help power the boat including 92,000 BTU of air-conditioning, backed up by a 4.3kw wisperpower genset.
Sunrise III is the second hull of the Longreach’s to launch and this Expedition version incorporates a truly unique layout. The closed in cockpit features electric windows to easily open or close up the space, with a BBQ grill and cockpit L shaped lounge with an aft door that slides open and provides access to the Davco aft dinghy platform.
The Galley is incredibly generous in space and function and would rival many modern homes, with Corian benchtops, beautiful fixtures, a steam oven, and lots of storage, while surrounded by large panoramic windows and accompanied by a generous lounge that opens out into the cockpit. A large standup fridge has plenty of chilled storage and then go upstairs to the flybridge in the protection of an internal staircase.
The flybridge boasts a large Portuguese style helm featuring two comfortable bucket seats and an extensive display of Axiom 16inch Raymarine chart plotters with 3D sonar, Radar AIS, and more, providing easy access to the forward deck. While behind the helm you enjoy an air-conditioned entertaining area with a pop-up TV, lounge, wet bar, and access to an aft deck with a Davco crane for lifting dinghies and more.
The master cabin is simply vast, with a king bed, storage underneath, office, surrounded by natural light, ventilation, and reverse cycle air-conditioning. There is also a TV mounted on the bulkhead and plenty of storage.
On the port side forward is the dedicated private ensuite with a separate rain shower, separate vanity, and fresh water flushing toilet with portholes to allow ventilation when necessary.
The starboard side enjoys a queen sized bed with large side windows for natural light and a massive dedicated bathroom forward. While the aft utility room houses the washer dryer and general storage.
While the port side offers another queen cabin, all beautifully appointed, with a more compact shower and toilet combination.

Longreach Power Catamarans: Reach further, Stay Longer
LONGREACH CATAMARANS ANNOUNCE THEIR ALL-NEW PURPOSE DESIGNED RANGE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE POWER CATAMARANS FOR CRUISING AROUND AUSTRALIA, ASIA AND THE SOUTH PACIFIC, AT THE SANCTUARY COVE BOAT SHOW 2021.
The all-new Longreach high-performance power catamaran range including 44 and 54 foot models, are designed specifically for long distance cruising and passage making around Australia and neighbouring countries, in modern apartment living comfort. A new 36 model is also on the drawing board to be released soon.
The focus on a super-efficient hull shape and modern raked bow design, ensures long range motoring with very low fuel burn providing a range in excess of 3,000 nautical miles with the standard long range fuel tanks, ideal for venturing over the top end of Australia or into the South Pacific. A hydrofoil package is available for the High-Performance version of the Longreach 44 with speeds in excess 30 knots for fast commuting.
The shape and profile of the hardtop roof has also been optimised for solar panel space providing up to 3.6kW of power generation and combined with a lithium battery package. Each boat comes standard with a full fitout suitable for turn-key cruising including watermakers, air-conditioning, solar, lithium batteries, generators and the ideal motor package.
The interior however reflects that of a modern luxury apartment with a beautiful timber interior package, comfortable lounging and cockpit seating and huge master bedroom, accompanied by two other guest cabins, all with their own ensuite. A full stand-up fridge, Corian benchtops and indoor / outdoor galley arrangement.
The Longreach range are built by Powerplay catamarans who have been established for more than 20 years specialising in power catamarans and led by Australian boat builder James Dewing who’s 45-year boat building experience has covered a broad range of boat building including the recent launch of bespoke power catamarans between 60-70ft. Powerplay have boats located all around the world, with a number operating commercially in Australia. AMSA commercial compliance will be provided as standard from the factory on all Longreach boats providing a higher standard than most boat builders.
Longreach is a collaboration between Powerplay and Multihull Central, Australia’s leader in performance cruising catamarans sales and distribution.
“We have so many of our customers wanting to explore this great island continent onboard a power catamaran, however our experience selling cats for many years tells us the power boats on the market are not designed for cruising to these remote locations in Australia due to their limitations when it comes to range,” comments Multihull Central’s Andrew McLeod.
“So we have packed in every feature our customers have been asking for to go cruising as a standard boat, from watermakers, long range fuel tanks, low draft with beachability, plenty of payload and of course comfortable accommodation and the unbeatable living space of a catamaran”.
Sales have already been made on the Longreach 54 and 44 High-Performance models with limited production availability in 2022.

Longreach Unveils 40 Cat with Diesel Outboards
Longreach Catamarans, a relatively new builder near Sydney, Australia, just unveiled its new Longreach 40 that comes with 300-hp Cox diesel outboards and hydrofoils.
Longreach already has a 44 and a 58, both designed to offer stability, fuel-efficiency and long range. The new 40 has the same DNA, but with the options of the diesel outboards and hydrofoils for added performance.
It is also offering the 40 with more traditional twin 250-hp Yanmar inboard diesels. They produce a top speed of 25 knots and a range of 1,200 nm at 12 knots. Twin Cox 300-hp V-8 diesel outboards boost the top speed to more than 30 knots.
The outboards also have other advantages. You can lift them up if you want to beach the boat. They are external to the boat, so they’re easy to access for repairs or maintenance. And they’re spaced widely apart so the boat is easy to maneuver at low speeds. The large swim platform separating them can be raised or lowered with hydraulics.
To give the outboards even more boost, Longreach is using Sharrow props. It says they are 30 percent more fuel efficient than traditional props.
The 40 comes with either an open or enclosed bridge. It has twin helm seats; more seating and a wet bar area aft. Steps lead down to the foredeck.
The aft deck has more seating, and it’s protected by the overhang from the flybridge. Large sliding glass doors open to the salon, with lounge seating and panoramic windows. A lower helm station is optional.
Below, in the two hulls, the accommodations include an owner’s cabin with a queen-sized bed and an en suite head. A guest cabin in the starboard hull has two bunks; another in the port hull has a double bed.
Specs.: LOA: 39’8”; Beam: 19’2”; Draft: 3’9”; Disp.: 34,600 lbs.; Fuel: 792 gals.; Water: 317 gals.; Power: 2×300-hp Cox diesel outboards or 2×250-hp Yanmar diesel inboards.
