What Our Customers are saying…

🎉

Thank you to all the team at QCYC for a very enjoyable day.

The team had a great time and the food was lovely.

They are wanting me to plan for next year at the same venue.  So I will be in touch in the new year to organise a date for next year!

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year.

12 December 2022

“I just wanted to write and let you know about our very first visit to the Sandgate yacht club.  We spend half of our lives in Italy, and had not had the pleasure of visiting, till a friend mentioned the club.

We were happy with the menu….more than sufficient for a balmy Sunday on the terrace with a cool breeze blowing.  On this occasion, we did not participate in the wine menu, but I did see there were single glass offerings for the designated driver as well as a comprehensive wine list.

We were in 4 people…only two ordering the same plate, and all plates were well presented and tasty.  ALL staff were friendly and welcoming, and we will definitely return.”

yours faithfully,

Beverley and Giambattista Nicoli

Sailing Food Ideas – Meal Planning & Tips

Breakfast on the water

During my several sailing trips over the years, I have come to realize the importance of nutritious and delicious meals in keeping up the morale of the people aboard.

There are obvious limitations in terms of access to ingredients and equipment when it comes to preparing your meals aboard a yacht.

In other words, if you did not plan your provisioning meticulously, or fail to get creative with the limited resources at hand aboard a boat, then you might be staring at the prospect of repetitive meals for days.

And no matter how pleasant your sailing ground is, your holiday can quickly turn into a forgettable disaster if people are not getting the food they want.

The good news is that it only takes a little bit of preparation and planning to ensure things stay interesting, culinary wise.

In this article, you can read about some of the sailing food ideas I’ve picked up over the years.

Table of Contents

Daily menus

Daily menu

It is a good idea to prepare a broad list of dishes you and your friends and family typically enjoy.

Doing so would help you when it comes to choosing ingredients for the trip.

You should remember that, despite all the luxuries and amenities modern yachts come with, you would be well out on the sea without immediate access to a host of services and facilities we take for granted on land.

This means that you should devise your daily menu so that it is not only tasty but also healthy and nutritious.

Look for diversity when it comes to crafting your daily menu so that there’s no repetition.

For example, aside from beverages such as tea, coffee, and juices, you can rustle up your breakfast with a mix of ingredients such as eggs, sausages, tomatoes, and cereals.

This would provide you with a nutritious and hearty breakfast to start the day on an energetic note.

For lunch, you may consider something light such as chicken salads, sandwiches, or even preparing freshly caught fish if you have the proper equipment for it.

Dinner time could be a little more elaborate with a variety of pasta, salads, BBQ meats and fish, fried rice etc on the menu.

Weekly menus

The same principle applies when it comes to devising your weekly menu. Do remember that the flexibility you would have in ensuring an interesting and diverse menu over a week long period depends entirely on the quality of your provisioning.

Choose a lot of fruits and vegetables that do not perish easily. Use up those vegetables and fruits that are prone to perishing first.

One of the best ways to make sure that your weekly menu stays fresh and interesting is through preparing them in different styles.

For example, with the same chicken, fish, and vegetables, you can alternate between Mediterranean, Chinese, Indian, or Italian styles of cooking.

This would require you to carry different varieties of condiments, herbs, and spice mixes, but they do not perish and take little space.

On the other hand, you would get to enjoy different flavors each day of the week.

Dinner menus

What's for dinner board

Dinner time aboard a yacht is a great opportunity to step out of the galley and indulge in some BBQ.

You can use your selection of frozen meats, freshly caught fish, and vegetables to whip together a delicious and fulsome meal.

However, if BBQ were possible, there are some other good ideas to ensure an enjoyable dinner. A combination of pasta and salads always works.

You could opt for lasagna and a simple Cesar salad, or spaghetti with as assortment of steamed or stir fried vegetables.

Chicken fried rice accompanied with Asian style curry is another easy and exciting dinner option. Pizzas are another all time favorite that can be easily prepared and enjoyed by all.

How to keep the food fresh

Keeping food fresh for long ought to be a priority during a long passage. The trick is to stick to some well-established guidelines about packing and storage of food items.

For example, make use of specialized storage options. Whether it is a humble zip lock bag or boxes to keep your ingredients dry, you should store food as per instructions.

Storing fresh meat is a persistent problem for most sailors. The trick is to have your meat vacuum packed so that you can safely stock it in the freezer for a week or in a cooler .

Complement your supply of fresh meat with the canned variety. Learn about proper food organization in the fridge so that you make efficient use of limited space.

Certain vegetables do not store well together. For example, store potatoes and onions separately.

Shopping list for the whole trip

Before preparing your shopping list, it would be advisable to ask all the members sailing with you about their preferences and allergies.

Once that is out of the way, you can get on with the task at hand. Firstly, categorize your items in an intelligent manner.

This will help ensure you do not miss out anything. You may categorize as follows

1.  Fresh ingredients: This would include perishable items including meats, vegetables, fruits, and dairy items.

2. Canned ingredients: This is the same as above, except that they are added with preservatives to last a long time. You may include your favorite meats, vegetables, dried or candied fruits, condensed milk, etc.

3. Herbs and spices: This choice in this section is really large, so you should choose after proper planning. Choose your condiments and spice mixes after thinking through the cuisines you would prepare. You can further subcategorize this on the basis of cuisine such as Italian herbs, Asian condiments, Indian spices etc. This would also include a variety of sauces.

4. Drinks: Keep a nice selection of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverage on board based on your preferences.

5. Snacks: Ready to eat meals and snacks are always handy and much in demand aboard a yacht, so make sure you pick up enough for the trip.

1. People have a larger appetite aboard a yacht: The motion of the ocean taxes the body, and, consequently, whips up the appetite. You can keep the ravenous appetite in check through storing enough snacks such as nuts and crackers. 2.   Pay attention to the amenities in the kitchen: Before you plan your meals and buy the ingredients, take a close look at the kitchen equipment provided on the boat. You do not want to be in a situation where you plan a lot of BBQ meals but the boat lacks the facility for that. Also, if you can help it, bring your favorite kitchen hand tools from home to simplify cooking aboard the boat. 3.   Too many cooks will spoil the food and the mood: The space aboard the boat is limited and there is a lot of stuff to store. It is important that only one person is in charge of storing the food items so that he or she knows how and where each item is kept. 4.   Finish the perishables first: Finishing them first means you would not regret having to throw them away, or, worse, suffer food poisoning on high seas.

Preparing and eating our food items is an incredibly personal thing, and no two people share the same tastes. However, when you are on a sailing trip, the resources are limited, and compromises have to be made.

However, with proper planning and a little bit of creativity, enjoying meals on long sea passages can actually turn into an exciting experience.

The trick is to be diligent and meticulous and follow the tips and ideas provided above in this article.

Incredible interesting article on food preparing while sailing, I have never experienced sailing but I would love to experience this one day. I love the topical island atmosphere, one day I wish to sail and experience this for myself.

Great ideas for food preparing while sailing, so many things I would never have thought about without reading your article today,

Happy Sailing

Yes, the atmosphere is very relaxing and pleasant on tropical islands and I if you’ve never sailed then I wish you to do so, soon:) I am sure you will enjoy!

I am glad this article gives you good ideas, it will also help you prepare easy and delicious meals while sailing:)

Thank you for passing by and for the comment.

I wish you a wonderful day!

I truly had no clue there was such a large number of various choices for sustenance when on board a yacht going on a trek with relatives. I will utilize this article for help before going on my next excursion. Much thanks to you for composing such a magnificent article.

Yours Truly, Carlton

Hi Carlton,

I am glad you found my article helpful and thank you for the comment:)

Have a wonderful day!

I’ve always wondered what types of foods that would have on a yacht or a cruise ship. Of course some of the foods you mentioned sound delicious anyways. By the way that first picture with the plate of fruits and the wine looks like some delicious breakfast. I wouldn’t need to be on a cruise to have that just for a regular meal haha.

yachts and cruise ships are totally different, I wrote a nice article about this subject. Click here to read more about yacht vs cruise .

Indeed, you don’t need to be on a cruise to have a nice breakfast like on the picture , but there is nothing more pleasant than waking up in the morning and enjoy a delectable breakfast while listening to the sound of the sea:) Trust me on this!

Thank you for the comment and wish you a great day:)

Yacht Club BREAKFAST Menu

This is the Yacht Club breakfast menu, which seems to be essentially the same in all Yacht Club restaurants.

In the separate threads for Yacht Club LUNCH and  DINNER menus you will note that after the main set of menus, which were given to @Beamafar  and declared complete by her YC MD, there are additional menus from other MSC ships and sailings that are at best variations on the main set.  So I am not giving any warranty that the menu posted here is the only breakfast menu.

@Beamafar  and  I have now done our part.  If you would like to contribute, please feel free to post additional menus (or variations) and 'food porn' pictures.  Just please remember that this thread is for Yacht Club BREAKFAST menus only.  See the separate threads for Yacht Club LUNCH and   DINNER  menus .

This may have been asked and buried in a different post somewhere but does anyone know if it is possible to order breakfast items via room service in YC that are not on the official room service menu? Such as those on the menu posted above?

I ask because on NCL (suite) they told us that we could order whatever we wanted for breakfast (within reason and if available, of course) even though not on the menu - just to manually write on the card what we wanted.

Not sure if that's something MSC will do.

Good question and something that I did not try to do.  Not sure if one could or not.

As a solo YC guest, something unusual in comparison to ordering Room Service on other ships, my Butler served my tray with one cup of coffee--not a pot of coffee--just one filled cop.  Most mornings I went to the YC Restaurant for breakfast.

On 10/20/2019 at 2:51 PM, Host Jazzbeau said: Breakfast:

If you enjoy a seated/served breakfast, you will love your YC breakfast!

Quiet with service (most mornings) as good as at lunch and dinner.  Usually, just one of the two Maitre d's was working, but their excellent, active service was just as good as at dinner.  Once, I ordered both the assorted cheese and cold cut plate:  delicious.  I preferred  the Ranchero Potatoes over the Hash Browns.  When I ordered poached eggs or Eggs Benedict, I was asked how I liked the eggs cooked.  (They were prepared as I requested.)   Coffee cup was kept filled, usually without having to request that.  One morning, I ordered their Stewed Apples and was served enough for 2-3 people:  very good, though.  Their breads that I ate were all very good; I love croissants and those were as good as any I have eaten.

One oddity:  while Grapefruit Juice was listed on the menu as being freshly squeezed, when I requested a half Grapefruit, it was not available.

Only once did I have breakfast at the YC Pool Grill and was pleased with the offerings.  Items, such as the potatoes or bacon that were self serve, cooled quickly in the open air and I was disappointed with the much fewer choices of the bread offerings.  There were three--as I recall:  hard rolls,  a variety of bread slices, or a small selection of danish type pastries.  A much greater selection was available in the YC Restaurant.

I enjoyed Breakfast on MSC Meraviglia!

That's odd. We've just come off Preziosa and I chose Fresh grapefruit 11 days out of fourteen...

Good for you.  I like the fact that the sections of the fruit were served as shown.  Makes it much easier than "digging" the fruit out of the skin.

Ah, after the second day I even had the peel removed.

That's how good the staff were. They witnessed me removing it on day two and obviously informed the chef.

Funnily enough, a few years ago on Seabourn a half grapefruit appeared that had just been sliced in half and the 'pulp' not separated.

Regardless of the ship on which I have sailed, I have never had the pulp not separated.  More of than not, the separations are large enough that I need to use fork and knife to do a bit more "dissecting".

Well done you.

Though that was the one reason that I remembered Seabourn can fall short.

I don't see either of the items I liked best at the non-Yacht Club breakfast: walnut sticky buns (cinnamon rolls), and breakfast pizzas.

Nor congee.  The toppings were very nice.

I think the sticky buns were available.  I recall seeing them on the display as one entered the YC Restaurant for breakfast.  Breakfast pizzas?  No.  Not in the Dining Room nor at the Pool Grille that I recall.

I don't recall that either on MSC.  I had congee when I was in China.  In my opinion, it's one of those foods that one has to acquire a "taste for".

I enjoyed reading the menu again.  Thanks for posting it.  Seeing that Stewed Applies remain available reminds me of the morning when I ordered that along with juice and a regular full breakfast.  My Steward brought me a full bowl of the fruit!  Much more than I expected.  I saved it for a breakfast "dessert"; a first for me.  Delicious, but I needed to "waddle" out of the Dining Room that morning!

I searched for 15 minutes the current YC Bar List (+ Wine selection at the YC Restaurant), but I cannot find it. Does anyone have an idea? I plan to cruise in Mediterranean sea on the MSC Seaside.

And thanks a lot @elbarney for sharing the YC Lunch/Dinner lists. Great job!!

You will not have any difficulty as a YC guest in ordering whatever you are able to do so in YC at any other bar elsewhere on the ship.  At the Meraviglia Lounge at the Atmosphere Bar near the mid-ship pool, the pours were most generous.

Except the champagne bar here you get Nicolas Feullatte only.

To get the others you need the +package...as long as available...

Something I’m really looking forward to, for the last time it seems, next month.  Very much enjoying NCL’s PremPlus at the moment. 🥴 hic  Veuve Cliquot is going down a treat. 😁

Do you know the name of the person manning the Champagne Bar, by any chance, MT?

Try to have a look, Bea

Doubt very much they will change the menu.  'Maple syrup' is used pretty commonly in the US to refer to products like this.

Regarding the Cold Cuts and Cheese:

I had to order both and could not order a combination of the two.  For Breakfast, along with fruit, juice, and bread, I could not "clean my plate".  What a waste of food.

It's a shame really! The waiters were so sure that this breakfast syrup was actually maple syrup. We had just gotten back from an Azamara Quest cruise and I had saved a Dickinson mini jar of grade A maple syrup. I had it with me and gave a teaspoon to our waiter so he could compare.

I was once on a HAL cruise, having breakfast in Club Orange and ordered Eggs Benedict with "crab". What I got was krab, "surimi" because they had run out of real "crab" or so they claimed. The chef did apologize though.

Such as those on the menu posted above? I ask because on NCL (suite) they told us that we could order whatever we wanted for breakfast (within reason and if available, of course) even though not on the menu - just to manually write on the card what we wanted.  Not sure if that's something MSC will do.   Thanks!!

I sailed on MSC Seashore July 23 - 30, 2022, and despite asking, no the staff would not deliver any restaurant meals to the room, even in Yacht Club.  I was told "only if the guests is ill" which I hesitated to lie about lest I be quarantined or interrogated.  This was disappointing because despite having "anytime" dining, the real dining time is only a 2 hour window for breakfast and again for lunch, and only in the dining room, meaning no private dining in your room.  Don't ask for it to go in the restaurant either; that's a no-go.  I had friends in the non-YC areas of the ship, and this policy meant separating ourselves on every meal.

For everyone's interest, I'm posting the room service menus of both Yacht Club and Aurea, both breakfast and all other times.  Note that Aurea has a MORE expansive list of options than Yacht Club does, despite paying 3-4 times as much as Aurea guests.  Also, the minibar in YC has fewer items than Aurea does.  I was denied any other meal options than what was on my menu, even when asking and when offering to pay.  Very disappointing.

Lastly, I've attached a picture of what all the YC room service meal options look like.  Note that the side item is always Lays potato chips.  None of the food items are hot (except the soup) nor freshly prepared.

On the MSC Seashore, sailing July 23-30, 2022, the included champagne in Yacht Club (premium drink package) was Nicolas Feuillatte, roughly a $30/bottle variety.  This was not served at every bar on the ship; some only had Prosecco or lower grades of sparkling wine only.  Personally, I found the included Prosecco to be more tasteful than the Nicolas champagne.

Any fancier, and you have to go to the champagne bar yourself, buy it (20% discount), then bring it back to your room.  the champagne bar did not have staff to bring it back to my room, ordering via room service was denied, as was ordering a bottle of  any  champagne via room service.  Instead, they insisted on pouring one glass at a time and sending to the room on a tray.  As many glasses as you want, but no bottle service.

For reference, Moet Chandon Brut was about $68/bottle after discount, and Veuve Clicquot Brut yellow label was about $80/bottle after discount.  They also have Dom Perignon and Cristal, both around $270 - $300/bottle (before discount).  I was able to use OBC to pay for the bottles I bought.

For comparison, I had unlimited Perrier-Jouët on Celebrity in the Penthouse (Retreat-level), and a bottle of Moet was included on embark day on NCL in an Owner's suite.  Generally, I was disappointed by what MSC considered "premium".

Also, if you order any drink anywhere on board that is > $15/glass, or not served by the glass at all, you must pay the  full price  of the glass or bottle, not the difference above $15.  This had a big negative impact to the value of my drink package since going even $1 over $15/glass meant the full price negating the value of the drink package altogether and forcing you to drink stuff you might not like.

In general, the Yacht Club value is poor, and it's a way better buy to go Aurea then buy a la carte thereafter.  See my other posts for more detail, or just message me and happy to share.

And what's the problem? Looks like your idea was to invite them to your room to have non YC guest having YC dinner

1 hour ago, MarkusToe said: And what's the problem? Looks like your idea was to invite them to your room to have non YC guest having YC dinner

The problem was that I invited and suggested to my fellow friends to come along on this cruise so we could all enjoy time together, and each buys whatever cabin class they desire and can afford.

I would like to have invited them to my room to enjoy conversation, while having refreshments or food.  They were also free to do the same with me, only their cabins were smaller not lending itself to do this.  And, I did pay for the larger cabin so why not use it for this purpose?

I don't mind paying for the food or beverages for the extra people, but that was not an option.  My goal was not to try to get something for nothing, and it wasn't as if the YC food options were better (they were less, in fact).

The YC experience for me ended up segregating us unnecessarily.  On Celebrity and NCL, I was welcome to host whomever I wanted back at our cabin and the butler was happy to provide the food and drinks we wanted for entertaining guests.  This only further encouraged more people to book in these nicer cabins.

Not sure why you had to go to the champagne bar to purchase a bottle of Moet, on the YC bar menu I have (from Virtuosa) there are several champagnes by the bottle (including Moet at £65) to purchase in the Connoisseurs selection. If you had gone to Top Sail to purchase it I'm sure one of the butlers would have put it on a tray and taken it back to your cabin for you, every time we headed back to our cabin with a drink someone always offered to carry it for us although we always declined.

That would have been nice but unfortunately that was not the experience i had on this cruise.  The specifically asked both room service staff over the phone and directly from our butler, both were unable to provide any bottle of champagne above Nicolas F.  The room did not include any drink list other than the minibar list for generic alcohol (gin, vodka, whiskey).

Wow, I'm really surprised that you were not able to get what is on the YC bar menu, I've seen some of your other posts, perhaps you were just unlucky with your butler. Did you speak to the YC director?

Did you think of bringing food from the YC pool deck back to your room? We had great made-to-order burgers there several times and one time brought them to the room to enjoy on our balcony.

I was satisfied with the Room Service breakfast served to me in my YC Club suite other than an additional croissant or pastry would have been appreciated.

Sorry I think this picture might be outdated. This is what I got from Aurea guests.

And "for comparison" sake - what was the difference in price - say a 7 day NCL  owners suite with a 7 day Royal Suite in YC - I'm sure there is a difference ~!!

For comparison I did a dummy booking for 1 week Caribbean cruise in October next year - NCL $20,533 YC $14,208

You are going to pay over $6k a week more on NCL

Thanks for this list. I find the included wines in the Yacht Club rather disappointing. I was expecting better quality Italian wines like a Primitivo or a Nero davola or a Rosso de Montalcino.  Ivi

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

cruising yacht club breakfast menu

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
