107m Benetti FB272 superyacht launches in Livorno

Italian yard Benetti has launched the second of its three 100m+ superyachts at its Livorno shipyard.  FB272 took to the water for the first time on February 5 at a ceremony attended by brokers and friends of the shipyard.

The 107.6 metre yacht features six decks and is built from a steel hull and aluminium superstructure to comply with the PYC code. Project-managed by Burgess , the yacht has a displacement exceeding 5,500 GT, a 17 metre beam and a hybrid propulsion system with diesel-electric engines.

Benetti said the owner offered a “significant contribution” from “conception to development”. This included working with Azure Naval Architects , Reymond Langton Design , Zaniz Interiors and Giorgio Cassetta to develop the exterior design.

The design sports 800 square metres of glass on the exterior of the yacht, with three metre windows that flood the interior with light. Dining and social spaces are plentiful on the main deck and are sheltered by the superstructure. A private deck sits above, leading towards the helicopter pad, which is equipped with a fuelling station.

FB272 is the second of three 100m+ yachts scheduled for delivery this year. It follows  the launch of FB277  in December, while the  third 100m+ yacht  is scheduled for an April launch.

Speaking at the launch, Azimut Benetti president Paolo Vitelli revealed the build had taken more than two million work hours from over 100 suppliers. “I could not be prouder to stand here among Benetti’s family, friends and colleagues to witness the launch of our latest enthralling creation,” he said.

“This iconic project has had a huge impact on local industry and, after more than two million hours of skilled work from over 100 suppliers, we can truly pronounce her as a wonderful achievement for Livorno and the “Made In Italy” ethos as a whole.”

History of Benetti Yachts

Since 1873 Benetti has stood for Italian shipbuilding excellence producing more than 300 boats and more than 50 superyachts, including a handful of giga-yachts larger than 330 feet (100m). Originally crafting commercial sailing vessels out of wood, Benetti recognized the potential of composite material for yacht production in the 1960s and transitioned to strong steel and aluminum to build full-custom displacement and semi-displacement motor yachts ranging in size from 90 (28m) to more than 330 feet (100m). Azimut Spa acquired Benetti luxury yacht builder in 1985, adding the traditional, experienced builder into the ultra-modern, technologically advanced Azimut Benetti Group.

Benetti is headquartered in Viareggio, Italy, as are its two main shipyards: Darsena Lucca and Darsena Italia. A third yard, located close by, assembles Class Range yachts ranging from 93 to 145 feet (28m to 44m) in length. Benetti’s modernized boatyard in Livorno covers 200,000-square-meters, produces 12 custom mega yachts at a time, offers superyacht repair services and is the timeliest refit center in the Mediterranean. Its 34,000-square-meter Fano facility specializes in molding and laminating yachts.

Benetti new construction yachts adhere to the Benetti Quality System, which comprises specialists who perform more than 1,000 quality inspection checks and tests on every yacht, following the most stringent safety and technical standards. Benetti’s architects, engineers, designers and project managers boast fanatical attention to detail and an obsession with quality to produce iconic Italian luxury yachts, such as the custom VICA FB801.

Benetti has been recognized as world leaders for building Custom Mega Yachts for the past decade having won several awards, including the ShowBoats International award for “First Custom Mega Yacht Builder larger than 80 feet.”

The Benetti Yacht Fleet

Northrop & Johnson offers a wide range of Benetti yachts for sale, including wholly custom superyachts built in steel and aluminum and composite semi-custom full and fast displacement series motor yachts. Aside from the three 350-foot (107m) launches in 2019, notable yacht builds by Benetti include the 295-foot (90m) LIONHEART, the 282-foot (86m) NABILA, the 282-foot (86m) KINGDOM 5KR, and the 230-foot (70m) REVERIE. As of 2019, the Italian shipyard has delivered 46 custom superyachts larger than 165 feet (50m) and has six additional 165-foot-plus (50m-plus) yachts currently in build. Some of the custom superyachts are built in a semi-custom steel and aluminum series that share a common platform, ranging from 164 (50m) up to 240 feet (73m). This allows the Italian builders to offer a semi-custom package based on a common technical platform and thus avoiding expensive delays while still allowing ample opportunities for customization.

Benetti’s composite semi-custom models range from 100-feet – 145-feet (30m – 45m) and include the Delfino 95 (28.95m), the Mediterraneo 116 (35.3m), the Benetti Classic 121 (36.9m), the Fast 125 (38m), the Classic Supreme 132 (40m), the Crystal 140 (42m) and the Veloce 140 (42m).

The headquarters and main shipyard, it covers an area of 121.000 sqm and it is specialized in the construction of fiberglass yachts of up to 23M.

The Azimut service, outfitting and delivery center located in Savona’s Marina.

The shipyard and styling lounge dedicated to the production of Azimut Yachts over 24M and of the Benetti Superyachts from 24 to 100M. Viareggio is also the Lusben historical headquarters for the refit&repair of yachts up to 30M.

Benetti’s facility for the construction of superyachts from 24 to 100M, to date it is the largest active shipyard in the world. Here, Lusben is able to operate refit&repair projects for Gigayachts up to 120M.

The shipyard is dedicated to the production of the Magellano and S Series of Azimut.

Over the years, the Azimut|Benetti Group has obtained the certifications in the Health sector and Safety in the workplace, first compliant with the international standard BS OHSAS 18001 and, with the migration in December 2020, to the new ISO 45001-2018 standard; this certification constitutes an absolute record in the yachting sector for multi-site Groups.

Azimut|Benetti is also in possession of the quality certification, compliant with the ISO 9001 -2015 standard for all the offices of the Business Line Yachts, R&D Varazze and, from December 2021, the Lusben area of Viareggio.

Benetti Launches Six-deck 70-meter Long FB273 Custom Superyacht

The Benetti shipyard in Livorno has launched FB273, an elegant, six-deck 70-meter custom yacht with a steel hull and innovative swimming pool surrounded by an aluminium superstructure.

The exterior design of FB273 was developed entirely by Benetti, working in close collaboration with the owner, while the interiors are by Laura Pomponi and her Team.

The yacht extends across six decks and has a futuristic stern area featuring two side doors and a variable geometry swimming pool, a vertical bow with a “touch and go” helicopter landing area and a Jacuzzi on the Sky Deck.

Yesterday, Benetti, in a festive atmosphere at its Livorno shipyard, launched the 70-meter superyacht FB273, a symbol of the excellence on which Benetti has always prided itself. Built for an expert owner, the yacht has a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, six decks and a highly distinctive design that enhances both functionality and performance.

The elegant lines of the exteriors are the work of Benetti’s in-house designers, while the interiors are the work of Laura Pomponi and her design team. Construction work was supervised on behalf of the Owner by Bureau Veritas Solutions M&O.

Perhaps the most striking of the many unusual features of this superyacht is the stern area, which has a variable geometry swimming pool with a special system that varies the depth for use by both adults and kids, installed on a Benetti yacht for the very first time.

The bottom of the pool becomes an integral part of the Main Deck when fully raised, and the Beach Club opens out with two side terraces over the water.

The indoor and outdoor spaces on the Main Deck are very generously spaced and feature big sunbathing areas.

Moving forward from the stern, a light-filled living area with full-height glazed surfaces, furnished with sofas and armchairs, is followed by a dining room with a balcony on the starboard side that amplifies the sensation of contact with the sea and eliminates the boundary between interior and exterior.

On the Lower Deck, guests are accommodated amidships in 6 double cabins. The crew quarters are in the bow area.

The Upper Deck is dedicated entirely to the owner, with access both from outdoors and up the impressive interior stairway. In the bow, the private cabin occupies over 120 sqm and has a 180-degree view of the horizon, offering a bathroom with shower and sauna, a walk-in his and her wardrobe, and a big, bright night area where the vanity table and breakfast corner flank the bed.

There is also a private lounge with loose furniture that looks out over the yacht’s majestic bow, reserved for the owner’s exclusive use, and a touch-and-go helicopter landing area at the tip of the bow.

On the same deck as the owner’s suite, moving forward from the stern, is an outdoor lounge area with sofas and a sunbathing area, the interior lounge area, and a living space with a home theatre system.

The office has a big monolithic glass wall that looks out over the interiors and is connected to the big lobby with a private balcony. On the left side is the gym, complete with a massage room.

The Sun Deck features a big en Plein air dining area connected to an interior veranda through a sliding door. Forward, the captain’s cabin is next to the bridge.

The top Sky Deck is completely open, with a Jacuzzi, sun pad and loungers offering a prime vantage point to enjoy the sea view.

FB273 is fitted with two 2,400 hp Caterpillar engines that drive the yacht to a top speed of 17 knots and give it a range of 5,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots.

BENETTI LAUNCHES M/Y “METIS”, A 63M FULL CUSTOM YACHT

Today, at Benetti’s Livorno shipyard, the mega yacht “Metis” entered the water for the very first time. She has exteriors designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta and interiors by Bannenberg & Rowell and Birgit Otte Interior Design. The distinctive feature of “Metis” is the innovative layout of the living areas and the owner’s apartment, which covers a surface of over 160 square meters and is filled with natural light that floods in through huge glazed surfaces around its perimeter.

“Metis”, an original and innovative 63 meters Full Custom yacht designed for a German owner, who was introduced by Kurt Lehmann of Yacht Moments, was launched today in Livorno. Yacht Moments – in their role as consultant – have been in charge of the project management during the whole building period.

“While every launch is the source of great pride for us, “Metis” represents something special: her owner, together with Yacht Moments, allows us to enhance our presence in the strategically important German market. As always, we are very pleased to act as spokespeople for ‘Made in Italy’ excellence worldwide,” said  Franco Fusignani  from the sidelines of the ceremony. The Benetti CEO reasserted the concept: “We’ve been able to maintain the higher level of quality that distinguish all of our yachts while satisfying all the client wishes, even the ones received during the building process like the customized 20 sqm gym on the Fly Deck”.

Fusignani’s comments were echoed by the owner of “Metis”: “Benetti has confirmed its international yacht building reputation for excellence in quality and reliability. The shipyard has successfully interpreted my desires and needs to perfection. I am particularly satisfied with the unique owner’s cabin, which represents the perfect example of customization and excellence”.

Built with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, “Metis” is a five deck yacht of  63 meters in length . The  flowing  exterior lines are designed by Benetti and  Giorgio M. Cassetta Design , working in partnership. By designing very clean and soft volumes and enhancing the three-dimensionality through distinct surfaces, Cassetta wanted to realize the dynamic proportions of the yacht. Her character is defined by a long and vertical bow.

For the interiors, the London-based design firm  Bannenberg & Rowell  has introduced  a new approach , heralding in an original asymmetrical layout. The  beach club , the  main saloon on the Main Deck  and the  lounge area on the Upper Deck  are skewed 30 degrees with respect to “traditional” layouts, revealing new vantage points from which to admire the sea view. The result is a “modern style” yacht where bleached oak with leather inserts and carbon fiber are main elements. The interior decoration has been individually arranged and designed in cooperation with the German Designer Birgit Otte to create a luxury and fine living ambiance on board.

Another distinctive feature of “Metis” is the huge  owner’s apartment , situated on the  Upper Deck  for total privacy. Extending over a surface of  162 square meters , it has an unprecedented panoramic view through the windows that surround virtually almost its entire perimeter and flood the area with light. In addition to the master cabin, the area dedicated to the owner includes two bathrooms with walk-in wardrobes and a spacious day area with sofa and television. The apartment also has a beautiful 55 sqm outdoor terrace and a touch and go helipad.

On the Main Deck, in addition to the saloon containing relaxation and dining areas, there is a customised children’s playroom, twin cabin and adjacent nanny suite, while on the Lower Deck are the four big guest cabins and accommodation for a crew of 12, plus the aft beach club. On the top Bridge Deck, the helm station and connected captain’s cabin are forward, while an outside lounge area aft is furnished with a dining table, a bar, a jacuzzi and a sun lounging area.

On the 2 nd of June 2011, to mark the national holiday and to celebrate “Festa della Repubblica” (Republic Day), the Benetti shipyards at Livorno and Lusben (a division of the Azimut-Benetti group specialising in refit & repair of yachts and superyachts) opened their doors to the public. The production area owned by Benetti who has been an ambassador of Italian nautical excellence and style for over 130 years, measures over 160 thousand square metres.

At the official “door opening” and ribbon cutting ceremony, was attended by various authorities and the local press. Welcome addresses were given by Dr. Paolo Vitelli, Engineer Vincenzo Poerio, Dr. Paolo Casani and Dr. Gianni Cucco.

In recognition of the strong and meaningful ties between Benetti and the city of Livorno, the sea and navigation, the ribbon was cut by the truly exceptional Silvia Testa, a descendent of the Orlando family which used to own the homonymous shipyard (now the production area in which the modern Benetti shipyards are situated) and Daniela Benetti, a direct descendent of the Benetti family.

The opening ceremony also included the reading of a message from one of Livorno’s most illustrious citizens: President Ciampi, who, during his time in office as President of the Republic, was one of the leading supporters for the reconversion of the area into a first-class nautical centre.

After the authorities and the Benetti shipyard gave their welcome addresses, visitors were permitted to begin the six-leg guided tour inside the area.

It was a unique event, something which has never been done before and which was particularly important to Azimut-Benetti in its quest to emphasise the mutual benefits of the link between Benetti and the city.
