AZZAM Yacht – The World’s Biggest Superyacht is 180m Long
AZZAM yacht is the largest superyacht in the world, with an impressive length of 179.7 metres (590 ft), making her more than 15 metres longer than FULK AL SALAMAH, which is in second place on the list.
AZZAM yacht interior
The interior design of the AZZAM yacht is attributed to the French designer Christophe Leoni who is surprisingly not incredibly experienced in designing superyachts.
While exact details on the interior layout of the massive yacht have not been released to the public, it is known that Sheikh Khalifa requested a lot of wood furniture as well as intricate mother-of-pearl elements to be incorporated into all parts of the yacht.
More than a year’s worth of production of pearls was used in the interior design of AZZAM.
The interior has been described as being inspired by the Empire style reminiscent of the 19th century and incorporates numerous valuable artworks which are on display onboard AZZAM.
She can welcome an estimated 36 guests and over 80 crew members, which is one of the highest numbers in her size category.
The AZZAM yacht reportedly has 18 guest cabins with a massive owner’s suite that spans across several rooms.
According to rumors, the suite was constructed to be bulletproof, and there is a designated missile defense system installed onboard the AZZAM yacht although it is unclear whether this is accurate.
One of her most notable features is her custom-designed golf room which allows guests to practice their swings without even having to step foot outside.
She also has a large gym, a spa, several pools, jacuzzis, and a beauty salon on board.
Her main saloon is supposed to be one of a kind and one of the largest ever constructed on a private yacht. At 29 meters (95 ft) by 18 meters (59 ft), it is larger than a tennis court and offers unobstructed views of the outside due to its floor-to-ceiling windows.
There are no pillars to support the saloon, which gives it an open feel but requires additional ceiling beams and 7-centimeter thick custom-made windows.
A large and fast yacht-like AZZAM is bound to generate a lot of noise when underway.
To ensure a comfortable experience for guests onboard, engineers installed special software which keeps vibrations and engine sounds to a minimum.
This means that the large chandelier in the main saloon doesn’t rattle even when the yacht is underway.
Specifications
The AZZAM yacht might be the longest yacht in the world, but she is technically not the largest. DILBAR actually has a higher displacement and weight even though she is more than 23 meters (75 ft) shorter than AZZAM.
This impressive yacht was built by Luerssen in Bremen, Germany, and officially launched in November of 2013.
In March 2014, she briefly returned to Germany for some additional work. She has a 20.8-meter (68.3 ft) beam, a 4.5-meter (14.9 ft) draft, and a total weight of 13,136 tons.
AZZAM is powered by twin gas turbine engines and two additional diesel MTU engines and can carry more than 1 million liters of fuel onboard.
Despite her size, she can reach impressive top speeds of 30 knots which can be attributed to her relatively low draft, although her average cruising speed only lies at 12 knots.
The yacht has several cruising modes, including a sprint setting as well as a long-distance mode.
The exterior of the AZZAM yacht was developed by Nauta Yachts, which specializes in combining practical functions design with aesthetics and sleek yacht design. AZZAM is their largest and probably most well-known project.
The AZZAM yacht took more than four years, and 4,000 people collectively worked for 6 million hours to complete it.
The exterior is all-white with a streamlined design that is meant to make AZZAM appear smaller than she actually is when seen from further away.
On the bow, a large helipad is available for guests to arrive and depart in style and the yacht carries at least one helicopter at all times.
The aft is reserved for a spacious swimming platform, although AZZAM does not have a beach club in this location like many other vessels of her size category.
As is to be expected for such a high-profile superyacht, AZZAM does not have a lot of open-air deck space and is designed to protect the privacy of its owners.
There are no visible pools or much seating, which suggests that the spacious interior of AZZAM is reserved for entertainment and common spaces.
Total price of US $600 million for the luxury AZZAM yacht.
Her annual running costs of US $50 to 75 million are not surprising, considering she is the largest private yacht in the world.

World's largest yacht - 590 ft. - is launched
- German luxury boat builder Lurssen has launched the Azzam
- It is 590 feet long%2C with engines producing 94%2C000 horsepower
- The builder won%27t say who owns it%2C but betting is on a royal family from the Middle East
Sorry Roman. You've been eclipsed.
A new yacht launched by Lürssen, the German luxury boat builder, is now the largest motor yacht in the world.
It's name is Azzam, and at 590 feet long, it has officially bumped Roman Abramovich's yacht— the 536-foot Eclipse — from its number one ranking.
Lürssen won't say who owns the newest record-holder. But industry sources say the owner is likely the royal family of the United Arab Emirates.
Lürssen will say that the boat was "without a doubt the most challenging yacht that has ever been built."
Aside from its sheer size, Azzam had to be super-fast and able to navigate shallow waters "while providing luxurious and sophisticated accommodation to its guests."
For speed, the boat is powered by jets rather than propellers. It boasts 94,000 horsepower. And it hit a top speed of 30 knots, which is about 30% faster than most mega-yachts. "It's like a 590-foot jet ski," said one executive involved in the project.
There are no immediate descriptions available of the interior, though we know it's in the hands of French interior designer Christophe Leoni, who's using a "turn of the century Empire style."
Nor do we have critical details on the number of Jacuzzis, rotating beds, or helicopter pads. But the main salon, at 95 feet long by 60 feet wide has no pillars dividing the space.
So think Napoleon, if he had a mega-yacht and $600 million to spend.
Azzam will go through sea trials later this summer and will officially launch sometime in the fall.

The world's largest private yacht cost $600 million to build and has held the record for more than 5 years — but it might soon be dethroned
- The largest motor yacht in the world is a staggering 590 feet long and cost $600 million to build.
- At its launch in 2013, the Azzam beat out Eclipse, the superyacht that previously held the title of world's largest, by a full 57 feet.
- Azzam still holds its record more than five years later — but that might be about to change.
At 590 feet long, the Azzam is known to be the largest superyacht in the world.
Although there is no strict definition, a superyacht is generally understood to be a yacht that is at least 78 feet long , according to Warsash Superyacht Academy.
When it was launched in 2013, the yacht broke the record previously held by the Eclipse, a 533-foot yacht owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.
"[The Azzam] truly represents another milestone in not only our history, but yachting history as well," Lürssen Yachts managing partner, Peter Lürssen, said in a press release when the Azzam was launched .
Here's a look at the massive yacht.

The Azzam can move quickly for its size. With its 94,000 horsepower, the boat has hit a speed of 31.5 knots, or about 37 miles per hour, which is believed to the fastest speed for a yacht longer than 300 feet.
Although no interior photos have been made available, the boat is rumored to have a 6,000-square-foot lounge, up to 50 suites, and a 95-foot salon.
But the Azzam might not hold its record for much longer. In 2017, a Norwegian billionaire ordered the construction of a high-tech yacht called the REV that is supposed to be 597 feet long, which would be longer than the Azzam by seven feet.

REV Ocean announced in August 2018 that REV had just gotten its four main generators installed, which will power the main propulsion motors. It's expected to be finished in 2020.

World's largest superyacht is now also the fastest.
Building the largest superyacht in the world apparently wasn't enough for the owner of Azzam. They also wanted the fastest.
Yachting executives say that Azzam, the largest yacht in the world at 590 feet, recently went through its first set of sea trials in the North Sea. The boat hit a staggering 31.5 knots, or about 37 miles per hour. At that speed it's believed to be the fastest yacht longer than 300 feet.
And that's not even top speed. Engineers say Azzam—with 94,000 horsepower driving giant water jets instead of propellers—can go even faster in deeper water. The 31.5 knot speed was recorded in water only about 60 feet deep.
"It can easily do more than 32 knots in deeper water," said one executive close to the project.
Azzam was officially launched in April but won't be delivered to its owner until sometime this fall since it still needs to undergo further tests and finish work. The yacht, which cost more than $600 million to build, is believed to be owned by the royal family of the United Arab Emirates.
( Read More: Owning a Yacht, One Share at a Time)
Representatives for Lurssen, the company that built Azzam, declined any comment about the boat.
Azzam is nearly 30 percent faster than similarly sized yachts. Eclipse, the second-largest yacht at 536 feet, hits a top speed of about 22 knots. Rising Sun, the 453 foot megayacht built for Larry Ellison and now owned by David Geffen, hits top speeds of about 28 knots.
(Read More: The Booming Business of Shipping Yachts )
There are smaller yachts that are faster, of course. A yacht called The World is Not Enough, a 140-footer built by the serial yacht builder John Staluppi, hit a top speed of 70 knots. But it's one-fourth the size of Azzam.
Fortuna, the yacht built for King Juan Carlos of Spain, hit 68 knots.
No descriptions or images of Azzam's interior are available, though we know it's in the hands of French interior designer Christophe Leoni, who's using a "turn-of-the-century Empire style."

Meet ‘Sarastar,’ the 197-Foot Superyacht With the Wildest Interior on the High Seas
Mondomarine's flagship has one of the most colorful interiors afloat, from the purple-velvet ceiling in the owner's suite to the green onyx salon., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

The 197-foot superyacht Sarastar is all about color, from its dark-blue hull and silver superstructure, to the blue, purple and mustard velvet upholstery and backlit pear-green onyx walls. At night, underwater LEDs and exterior strip lighting ensure the yacht glows like a mermaid’s rainbow purse.
Sarastar was launched in 2017 as Mondomarine ’s flagship yacht. Its starring role came in 2023 when it was the setting for Netflix film Murder Mystery , which sees Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston attempt to solve a murder that occurred on the yacht during a charter in the Mediterranean.
Exterior design is by Luca Dini , while the interior is by the owner’s Italian design team, and they didn’t hold back. High-gloss floors and a white onyx bar greet guests as soon as their feet hit the teak. Glass floors and mirrored ceilings reflect light inside, outside and in between decks. Marble interior floors in green, white, pink and gold are twinned with green malachite vases, Baccarat crystal glassware and gilded dinner plates. In the VIP suite, there’s a crocodile-skin sofa, semi-precious stones and Stefano Ricci custom silk textiles.
While the interior is a treat for the eyes, Sarastar ’s four signature scents bring personalized aromas, and the yacht’s jellyfish net turns the sea into a private pool.
Here are 10 facts you didn’t know about one of the world’s most multi-colored boats. If you love the interior or would be more inclined to redecorate, it’s for sale for an undisclosed sum through Camper & Nicholsons.
Desert on the High Seas
The yacht’s open-plan, oversized sundeck is a socializing hub. Glass balustrades deliver the views, and a glass floor starts conversations. Alongside a gym area, giant u-shaped bar and outdoor chairs that look like they’ve come from the set of Game of Thrones , an exotic cactus garden that runs full beam brings a slice of desert to the high seas.
The Teak Helipad
Sarastar ’s touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck offers guests a quick transfer to and from shore. The area also has sofas and sunpads, for whiling away the hours at sea or enjoying a final coffee before heading back to civilization. At night, the helideck doubles as a dancefloor.
Clubbin’ It, Day and Night
An onboard highlight is the aft beach club, also cloaked in teak. During the day it’s a private retreat connected to an extended swim platform for sunbathing. By night, it transforms into a disco with a bar and a plasma TV with a powerful boom box so guests can party by the water’s edge.
Velvet Underground
A handful of yachts have crushed velvet in their interior designs. But only one uses it for the ceiling of the full-beam owner’s suite. The plush purple material also features in the full-length drapes and bed linens. It’s mated with his-and-hers bathrooms connected by a shower, two private folding balconies and midnight blue onyx detailing. The other five guest cabins share similar bronze, petroleum and rose-colored velvet décor.
Multi-Deck Dining
Sarastar ’s chef focuses on regionally inspired recipes prepared with local ingredients. The dining options are almost as exhaustive as the menus, with exterior dining for 12 on the bridge deck (with glass inserts on the floor for viewing the deck below), formal dining for 12 on the main deck, and more seating on the main deck aft (inset) for breakfast and casual meals.
PWC-Certified
Sarastar ’s list of toys includes sea bobs, towables, a kayak, a sailing dinghy, and scuba diving equipment, with a crew of 15 to assist. The yacht is also a certified RYA water sports center, which means in addition to messing about on the jet skis and wave runners, guests can walk away from their charter with a personal watercraft license.
Stone-Cold Genius
The yacht’s three interconnected decks are linked by a sculptural chrome and marble staircase with open treads, a glass barrier and a back-lit onyx wall that delivers both an artistic statement and natural light. The use of pear-green onyx is replicated across all three levels to create a continuous design language.
Light it Up
The vessel’s art includes a striking crystal chandelier in the main salon. It’s suspended over the formal dining table, with shards descending from the ceiling. On the exterior, wraparound multicolored LED strips ensure the yacht glows at night. Even the guest cabin beds have color-changing headboards and the ensuites include color-therapy showers.
Hollywood Squares
Among Sarastar ’s cool technology is a Kaleidescape M300 entertainment system, which gives guests access to thousands of films and a library of music stored on the yacht’s server and accessed at the touch of a button for a personalized cinematic experience. Flat-screen TVs are integrated into the walls and furniture, appearing and disappearing on command.
For staying connected at sea, the master suite includes a dedicated office space. Beyond the satellite-based WiFi, the working area comes with sea views, a high-gloss black desk and, of course, a velvet chair in midnight blue.

2024 Aston Martin DB12 Volante Offers Sunshine and Substance
The droptop DB12 is gorgeous and hefty with a price to match.
Like the DB12 coupe , the convertible is a big machine. That's big in the good way, like in song lyrics describing desirable partners or restaurant adverts promoting new burgers. The Volante is thick and juicy, a high-calorie treat. After the first anxiety-provoking seconds behind the wheel, mostly focused on not scraping the 21-inch Y-spoke wheels against the stone curbs leaving the hotel parking lot, we adjusted to the Aston's size. Despite its wide hood and curvy flanks, it's not difficult to sense where the edges are, and the result is a car that feels hefty, but pleasantly so, like a Montblanc fountain pen.
There's nothing like putting the pedal down while the top is down, and the Volante's AMG-sourced twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 rewards with both vigorous acceleration and a predatory roar that grows hungrier with changes in drive mode. The Volante offers four stages of electronic stability control and five drive modes, from the soft GT mode to Sport (our preferred roadgoing setting), Sport Plus (a little lumpy for casual driving), Individual, and Wet (which we didn't use, despite our drive being very). While the DB12 does not currently offer a V-12, and fans of the higher cylinder count may miss its distinctive croon, the V-8 in the Volante sounds amazing. It also gets a bump in power thanks to bigger turbos, new cam profiles, and better cooling, resulting in 671 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. Aston says it will race to 60 mph a tick slower than the roughly 250-pound-lighter coupe—we expect 3.4 seconds—and top out at 202 mph, a speed at which you'll probably want (and need) the top up.
Click through the gears with the aluminum paddles behind the thick-rimmed steering wheel, or let the ZF eight-speed automatic handle shifting duties, which it will with snappy downshifts and high-revving upshifts. We found the shifts well timed during more aggressive driving but almost comically vigorous at part-throttle acceleration, where the DB12 kicks down and digs in with the enthusiasm of a sled dog in harness.
There's no need for it, as the Aston is plenty torquey even in higher gears. Changes to both coupe and Volante from the DB11 include a shorter final drive ratio for more response where you need it. An electronic rear differential keeps both rear tires in the game. Somewhat rare for a big grand tourer, the DB12 is still rear-wheel drive with no parlor tricks such as rear-wheel steering. We didn't miss it. Even on the narrow roads in the Malibu hills, the Aston stayed tucked in its lane. We won't say it drove like a smaller car, because it didn't, but there's a particular charm to a heavyweight who can dance.
Some credit for the Volante's stable cornering is no doubt due to its bonded aluminum chassis with stiffened mounting points for the rear suspension and additional cross bracing, while new adaptive dampers and retuned rear springs smooth out bumps and potholes. Electric power steering responds quickly to directional input and offers just enough heft to match the car. Michelin Pilot Sport S5 summer tires got a workout during our wet drive, but the Volante slid just a fun amount as we navigated fallen rocks in the hills. Our test car had the carbon-ceramic disc brakes (a $14,500 option), plus bronze calipers (an additional $1800). That's a pricey add-on, but they save nearly 60 pounds of unsprung weight over the standard rotors, and they slowed our go with authority.
Back on the main road, and in a rare spot of sunshine, we had a chance to admire the cabin. Aston offers an incredible amount of customization. Its configurator will have you comparing accent stitches in a rainbow of color combos. Our car's cream and navy leather with dark wood trim gave the Volante a yacht-like swagger that matched its powerboat driving characteristics. The Volante is available with a more aggressive carbon-fiber performance seat option, but why ruin the perfect cruiser with stiff seating? The standard seats not only look and smell great, with their diamond-stitched leather design and gentle bolsters, they're also well padded with standard heating and available ventilation—must-haves for open-weather driving. The rear seats are for belongings, not beloveds.
Aston's big news for both coupe and convertible DB12 is a new infotainment system. No longer a Mercedes hand-me-down, the 10.3-inch touchscreen houses Aston Martin's first in-house software. It has some cool tricks, like a split-screen display and a rotatable camera view. The gauge cluster is digital, changes color with drive mode selection, and is virtually impossible to see with the top down. Convertible problems. Back in the touchscreen, smartphone mirroring is wireless, and there's a charging pad tucked under the sweeping console so you can put your phone there and forget it for three days. Knurled metal switchgear includes hard buttons for things like exhaust sound, stereo volume for the optional Bowers & Wilkins 15-speaker system, and climate control.
At $268,086 to start and $342,586 for our car (with options), there's nothing budget-friendly about the DB12, but if you want a cheap convertible, pick up an ex-rental Mustang. The Volante is for a buyer who wants a say in every detail, with a drive experience that blends heritage coachbuilding with just the right amount of modern convenience.

Like a sleeper agent activated late in the game, Elana Scherr didn’t know her calling at a young age. Like many girls, she planned to be a vet-astronaut-artist, and came closest to that last one by attending UCLA art school. She painted images of cars, but did not own one. Elana reluctantly got a driver’s license at age 21 and discovered that she not only loved cars and wanted to drive them, but that other people loved cars and wanted to read about them, which meant somebody had to write about them. Since receiving activation codes, Elana has written for numerous car magazines and websites, covering classics, car culture, technology, motorsports, and new-car reviews. In 2020, she received a Best Feature award from the Motor Press Guild for the C/D story "A Drive through Classic Americana in a Polestar 2." In 2023, her Car and Driver feature story "In Washington, D.C.'s Secret Carpool Cabal, It's a Daily Slug Fest" was awarded 1st place in the 16th Annual National Arts & Entertainment Journalism Awards by the Los Angeles Press Club.
