We loved our experience with them! Boarding was super easy and the captain was experienced and witty. They set us up with drinks and music right at the beginning and really let us do our own thing the entire trip checking in to see what we needed often. None of us had any experience on a boat but anything we needed to know they explained early on (not a whole lot other than safely moving around the boat because they handled everything). All 6 of us would do it again, loved it! Phenomenal way to view the city skyline and Statue of Liberty!

We had such a wonderful time sailing yesterday. The boat was just the right size, the captain and crew provided excellent service. We hope to make this a monthly experience with you all. It was one of the most peaceful experiences we had in nyc. It was an excellent way to experience the city.

Highly recommend! Italo and Mariann are amazing people and hosts. I was originally planning to do an unlimited mimosa and Buffett boat that was offered by another company, but after reading more reviews and realizing the price was essentially the same, I swapped to this boat ride idea instead. And let me just say - it is worth every penny! Nothing beats having your own private boat and Italo and Mariann are very accommodating. I took my friends on this for my birthday and everyone had a blasted. If you’re looking for an experience in NYC, this is for you.

I celebrated the birthday party for my wife with a group of her close friends and Italo and Mariann. It became a huge success and a huge surprise to her. This yacht brought us the most joyful birthday experience ever. Even if it was a cold winter night, we still love staying outside to enjoy the skyline of nyc. We appreciate Italo and Mariann a lot for the detailed and warm hospitality. They are so friendly and responsive. We had a super customized charter. Everything was way beyond my expectations.

Our trip with Glenn was amazing and everything we hoped for to celebrate my best friend's bachelorette party! Leading up to our trip, Glenn was super responsive, helpful, and friendly. We had some trouble finding the dock and he was patient, dropped us his location, and ensured we found where we needed to go. When we arrived, Glenn was ready to greet us and the boat was spotless. We got out on the water quickly and throughout our trip Glenn and his helper Sam were nothing but gracious. I would highly recommend this boat/charter for your next Hamptons outing!

Could not be more grateful to Martin and Chris for helping create what is now one of the most memorable evenings of my life. We left the pier around 6pm for an evening sunset sailboat cruise around Manhattan. Everything was perfect. I had told Martin and Chris that I planned to propose to my girlfriend on the cruise, and they went above and beyond to make every moment special. Martin and Chris were both knowledgeable, personable and professional, making us feel welcome and at ease. We were served charcuterie, dinner, wine and champagne at the front of the boat while watching the sunset. Before I proposed, Martin made sure we had a nice view behind us, and Chris took great pictures of the moment. We will definitely book with them again!

Boat rentals in NYC vary in price. A boat tour of the highlights of the city starts as low as $75/person, and private charters on luxury yachts in NYC can cost upward of $4,000 per hour. A power boat that fits 10-12 people costs (on average) $300/hour in NYC.

To operate a personal watercraft in NY, you must be at least 14 years old.

According to boaterexam.com if you were born on or after May 1, 1996, you are required to pass a state-approved course and obtain a boating safety certificate to operate a motorboat. Everyone in NY must complete a Boating Safety Education Course in order to operate a PWC on NYS waters. The boating safety certificate must also be kept with you when you’re operating a boat.

You need to complete an accredited boating safety education course to rent and operate a boat in New York.

You must wear a lifejacket or PFD when riding a jet ski in New York . You also much complete a boating safety course and receive a certificate of successful completion and have that with you at all times when operating watercraft in New York.

All people on a kayak must wear a lifejacket at all times from November 1st-May 1st, and all kayaks must have at least 1 PFD per person onboard at all times, regardless of the time of year. Kids 12 and under must always have a lifejacket on while on a kayak.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Calypso Yacht

Calypso is a truly classic yacht. She is a styled aluminum hulled yacht with mahogany cabin sides and teak decks and can comfortably accomodate up to 34 passengers.

The Calypso was custom built by Stephens Yacht in 1973 for Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wrather of Hollywood CA. She was originally christened “The Lone Ranger” in recognition of the radio/ TV show created by Mr. Wrather.

The Sopranos

Cruising on Calypso is among Steve Schirripa's favorite activities while in NYC and often invites his fellow Sopranos cast members.

Manhattan rents are falling, while asking prices in one borough are skyrocketing

Prospective tenants may pay a bit less to get their own slice of the Big Apple in one borough, but that's not the case throughout the city.

According to a report by real estate website StreetEasy , the median asking rent in Manhattan for Feb. 2024 fell 4.6% compared to Feb. 2023. Five neighborhoods in particular fueled this dip, the site found:

What else has been driving the drop in Manhattan's median rental prices? Slowing demand leads to higher vacancy rates in the borough, according to StreetEasy. In response to that, nearly one in five Manhattan rentals in February offered concessions like at least one month of free rent, an increase of 13% from 2023.

But that's certainly not the case elsewhere in New York City. In Queens, media asking rent jumped 13.5% from Feb. 2023, StreetEasy found , up to $2,950. With the exception of a few neighborhoods where new developments are common, there is an increasingly limited rental inventory in Queens — triggering an increase in demand. In Feb. 2024, there were almost 4,000 fewer rentals on the market, the site found.

StreetEasy predicted landlords could start raising rents amid tougher competition for apartments. In popular neighborhoods like Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside, median asking rent was up 8.3% from 2023, and was more than 10% higher than the borough median.

To find more affordable units, apartment hunters are looking further and further east for deals, targeting places like Elmhurst, Jackson Heights and Woodside, StreetEasy found .

In Brooklyn, the hottest markets continue to be along the waterfront, in places like Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg, and DUMBO. But that hasn't stopped median asking prices in places from East New York from going up as well, as prices jumped 18% to $2,950.

It comes as the New York City Council voted Tuesday to declare an ongoing housing emergency in the city, which extends the rent stabilization law that was set to expire on April 1. The emergency is defined as a citywide rental housing vacancy of less than five percent.

The latest survey shows a vacancy rate of just 1.4% in the city — the lowest number since 1968, according to the  NYC Housing and Vacancy Survey . The last time the survey was conducted back in 2021, that number was at 4.4%.

Most experts consider a healthy vacancy rate to be between 5-8 percent. Extending the rent stabilization law blocks landlords from hitting tenants with sharp rent increases and protects the right to renew a lease.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”
