Erica Rose on Her Second 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Experience and Her Husband's Omelette Drama (EXCLUSIVE)

Shannon Raphael - Author

Mar. 14 2022, Published 12:39 p.m. ET

The third season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht is in full swing, and the drama with the guests is just as compelling as what's going on with the crew.

After their first charter became the most-talked-about one of the spinoff's second season, reality star Erica Rose and her mom, Cindi Rose, returned to Parsifal III in the hopes that they would have a more satisfactory experience by getting a "higher level of service."

While Captain Glenn Shephard and First Mate Gary King were mostly amused at the prospect of Erica and Cindi returning, Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher quickly made her disappointment known when she referred to the charter group as "disrespectful, exhausting, emotionally draining," and "unpredictable."

Though Cindi and Erica did return, the rest of their group was new to Parsifal III . The Bachelor alum's husband, Charles "Chuck" Sanders, two friends, and another couple made their Below Deck Sailing Yacht debut on the March 7 episode.

With Erica and Cindi's new group of guests and a mostly new crew, there was hope that things would go more smoothly than they did in Season 2. However, it didn't take long for the charter to go off the rails (or sails, so to speak).

Since the first part of their charter is getting a lot of attention online, Erica spoke with Distractify to clear up a few misconceptions about what happened, and to discuss why her second time on the show wasn't a "pleasant experience." Plus, she also shared why she was surprised by Daisy's strong reaction to her return.

Erica Rose on returning to 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' with her husband, Charles Sanders, and the omelette drama.

Though her first charter wasn't fully up to her standards, Erica said that she wanted to return to the show in Season 3 because her daughters were a bit older, she was feeling more confident with herself, and she thought that there would be less drama if she brought her husband along, instead of doing another girls' trip. She was hopeful that it would be a more "positive experience" the second time around — but things didn't exactly go to plan.

"I really did not come in with a dramatic intention," Erica said to Distractify , before adding that most of the drama came from her husband and her mom.

"People are kind of blaming me for it. To me, that's a little unfair, because you can only control your own actions. Of course, I can never control my mom, and I can't control my husband either," she added. "And this was his first time on reality TV."

Because she had raved to her husband about Chef Natasha de Bourg's food after her first stint on Parsifal III (and Erica and Charles had actually eaten the chef's food several times after the show), Erica realized that they would be "picky" about new Chef Marcos Spaziani's meals, since he has a completely different cooking style.

At the end of the March 7 episode, ahead of their beach brunch, Charles ordered an omelette from the chef. He sent back the first one because it had tomatoes, and was ultimately unsatisfied with the chef's second egg offering. Charles went on to say that he was "disgusted" by the breakfast, and that he had eaten "better food at the ballpark."

Charles "Chuck" Sanders and Erica Rose Sanders

"There was no need for Chuck to be that dramatic about eggs. I've seen him eat a lot grosser things before... It was a bit much," Erica said about her husband's strong reaction at the end of the episode. "I don't think it's funny, I don't think it captures who he is. I don't think he would do that if it wasn't a television show."

Erica said that her husband, who is also her law partner at Rose Sanders PLLC, played it up for the cameras. Charles, who majored in theatre in college, took the experience as a pseudo-acting role (though Erica noted that nothing was scripted, she did say that guests are encouraged to vocalize their complaints).

"It was his moment in the sun," Erica said about Charles' reality TV debut. "I was just in a good place and I wanted to be peaceful compared to last time, but he's his own person. That's just what he felt like doing. And he's excited by it."

Though Erica and Charles have received many negative comments on social media about their Below Deck Sailing Yacht appearance, the latter spouse is choosing to solely look at the positive — which is that their law firm is getting a lot of searches online.

Erica herself gets why viewers are saying certain things about her group, but she thinks that they should keep in mind that the yachties themselves are often looking to engage in the drama, too.

"People also have to remember that these are not just people who work on yachts... These people are also reality stars. They're feeding off of the drama too," Erica said. "The producers don't just take yacht employees, like they look for a cast that is going to play into stuff, make good ratings, etc."

The lawyer touched on Daisy's "animosity," and whether she would do another charter on Parsifal III.

Erica's initial Below Deck Sailing Yacht experience may have fallen short, but she thought that she'd left the vessel on positive terms with Daisy the first time around. The two even interacted with one another on social media a few times after filming, so Erica was surprised when she heard what Daisy had to say about her and her husband on the show, and in her confessionals.

"We did keep in touch throughout, and I have no idea where the animosity came from," Erica shared.

Daisy called Charles "uncultured, unmannered, [and] untraveled" in her interview chair, and she had a strong message for him in the closing seconds of the March 7 episode.

"Chuck, go f--k yourself," Daisy said about the lawyer.

The You're Cut Off star knew that Daisy had said things about her first charter being high-maintenance, but she thought that it was because of her group, not her.

"I just really didn't anticipate negativity because Daisy wasn't personally negative at me the first time. She said our group of friends was a lot to handle, and I totally understand that," Erica added. "But I didn't expect the personal attacks."

Though Erica's Season 3 charter is continuing to be a hot topic of conversation, her second appearance on the show will likely be her last.

"Definitely not on the sailing yacht, no..." Erica said about whether she would return to Below Deck Sailing Yacht in the future. "It wasn't a very pleasant experience. I just 100 percent wouldn't do that one again."

New episodes of Below Deck Sailing Yacht air on Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo. You can also stream the series on Peacock.

Below Deck’s Daisy Reveals Scathing Messages From Erica Rose’s Mom, Accuses Her of “Lies” and “Slander,” Plus What Wasn’t Shown

Below Deck’s Daisy Reveals Scathing Messages From Erica Rose’s Mom, Accuses Her of “Lies” and “Slander,” Plus What Wasn't Shown

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Daisy Kelliher is not holding back on the ongoing feud between herself and returning charter guests  Erica Rose Sanders , Charles Sanders , and Erica’s mother Cindi Rose .

As fans will remember, Daisy was less-than-thrilled that Erica was returning for a second charter this season, and the two have been in a heated exchange (mostly, on Erica and company’s part).

Daisy did take the time to clarify on Twitter what exactly she was feeling toward the returning guests in real-time during the latest episode.

Daisy reacts to Erica's return

Daisy then went on to defend castmates Gabriela Barragan and Ashley Marti for also having to deal with the difficult couple.

Daisy felt back for Gabriela and Ashley.

Erica’s husband Charles has gone on record saying that the show was scripted and that he was “acting” on his most recent appearance of the show because that’s what producers wanted — a claim that the rest of the crew has adamantly denied.

Now, on a new episode o f The Pita Party Instagram series that Daisy co-hosts with fellow Below Deck stars Dani Soares and Alli Dore , Daisy is sharing the scathing messages Cindi had for the Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew after their first visit. She certainly did not hold back revealing why she was not in the mood to have them back aboard.

Daisy pulled out her tablet and read the messages she received from Cindi.

“All the crew worked hard, except for Captain Glenn and Daisy, who I think were there to create fake rocking ships and try to pretend he [and] she [were] yacht royalty were working. Daisy ordered people around, but I never saw her do any work,” Daisy began.

Daisy then revealed the message pivoted toward Captain Glenn’s treatment of the group and his not wanting to attend a “women’s empowerment” dinner.

“What would we talk about? That you were an older, confirmed bachelor who likes to be alone? It was rude of you to refuse our good manners. You are 50 something and should know manners by now. To ask people to pay over $25,000 per person and tell them it’s a luxury trip and show us activities and complain about us behind our backs is so immature and then expect tips that we generously did. At least we have manners,” Daisy shared in Cindi’s words.

Daisy made sure to let Below Deck fans know that it’s not particularly Erica, Charles, or Cindi’s frustrating behavior onboard the yacht itself that made her “blood boil,” but rather, it’s the “slander” and “lies” that they spread through social media.

“So when I saw this [Cindi’s message], it got my f***ing blood boiling,” Because it’s lies, it’s slander. It’s insane. And I didn’t retaliate. I didn’t say anything. I didn’t do anything,” she revealed.

“They are everything that I hate about social media. I hate liars. I hate fabricators. I hate people who use social media as a platform to spread gossip. And they’re everything of what I think represents is awful in the world and awful about social media,” the chief stew said.

Erica on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' is the worst guest ever, say fans

Fans react to returning charter guest Erica on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' season 3

Charter guest Erica on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 on Bravo

A familiar face boarded the Parsifal III, much to the crew's dismay and social media's delight: Erica on Below Deck Sailing Yacht has proven to be one of the most notoriously awful charter guests in the franchise's history.

Viewers first got a peek at Erica Rose, an incredibly high-maintenance "attorney and a mother of two," during Sailing Yacht 's second season. Rose is best-known by Below Deck fans for making the stews unpack her numerous suitcases and yelling "Ta-tas for Trump!" while members of her entourage paraded around in Trump 2020 bikinis.

In the March 7 episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3 , Captain Glenn Shephard diplomatically says Erica, her mother Cindi, and the rest of their group were "very interesting," but chief stew Daisy Kelliher had a very different reaction to learning that the memorable primary would be returning to Parsifal.

"This is the worst news ever," Daisy exclaimed. "These people are disrespectful, they’re exhausting, they’re emotionally draining. And the biggest thing for me is they’re unpredictable — that’s what’s scary. I just don’t want it."

But surely Erica had to learn the error of her bonkers ways last season? Seemingly no! The drama started before Erica & Co. even stepped foot on deck: their party was removed from a connecting flight at London's Heathrow due to an argument with the flight crew over an omelet. (Yes, you read that correctly.) "Three cops, fully armed" removed them from the plane, explained Erica's husband, Charles "Chuck" Sanders. "I told you they were crazy!" Daisy yells to Captain Glenn.

The shenanigans don't stop there. Within only a few hours of boarding, the vocal-fry vixen is already sporting a Joe Biden bikini (a real political 180 there) while her husband has a freak-out over watermelon gazpacho. Erica immediately makes her way into the boat's kitchen to ixnay more high-minded menu items like broccoli mousse. "Just because you wear fancy clothes...doesn't mean you have fancy taste buds. They don't know sh*t about food," chef Carlos Marcos Spaziano complains in a confessional.

The episode ends with Chuck whining that he doesn't have breakfast yet — even though Erica herself chose a beach brunch at 11 am — and, once said breakfast arrives, freaking out further about the presence of tomatoes in his omelet. Who knew an egg dish could cause so much drama?!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 charter guests Erica Rose and Charles Sanders addressed the backlash. Fans criticized them for everything from their behavior to their disastrous tip. They even slammed Charles complaining about the food and calling it “disgusting.”

Erica Rose is a name you don’t want to hear on the show. Most Below Deck fans shuddered at her return, including chief stew Daisy Kelliher. Unsurprisingly, the charter guests were even worse than in the previous charter season. Fans think they’re the worst charter guests in the franchise’s history.

Find out what they had to say about the backlash they received.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guests speak out

Charles Sanders spoke out about the criticism of his behavior. He previously claimed the producers of Below Deck Sailing Yacht told him to speak ill of Chef Marcos Spaziani’s food. Charles is aware of the backlash he received after his appearance on the show. While his wife Erica Rose has been on many reality shows, he didn’t know what to expect.

The couple was previously criticized for their low tip . Erica explained that their fellow charter guests Janelle and Rhett Flatt didn’t offer their share. Yet, the couple explained that they were told not to offer their share. Janelle even posted the screenshots of their text message conversation on social media.

“Bittersweet. I wanted [the] show to do well, and I had some fun playing it up a bit,” he claimed. “I now realize that the drama that ensued related to my actions … brought a great deal of attention to the show and my family. While it makes good TV, I certainly upset a few people.”

“I think people reacted negatively to me because I made a bit of a scene which at the time I thought would be funny,” Charles explained. “The aftermath has been challenging to say the least and I definitely didn’t mean to offend anyone.”

I do believe a lot of it was a publicity stunt, it’s not a new thing for Erika to behave weird. She definitely has delusions of grandeur!

Not surprised they are a couple of ambulance chasers. I would be very suspicious of any claim or litigation they had done. Disgusting!

Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Who Are Charter Guests Erica Rose & Charles

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Charter Guests Erica Rose and Husband Charles Sanders

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose already made a name for herself in season 2 as one of the worst charter guests in Below Deck history. But despite constantly complaining on her first Parsifal III voyage, Erica Rose wanted another charter and drama on season 3.

This go around, Erica Rose didn’t just bring her friends and her mom. Her melodramatic husband Charles Sanders joined the trip and out-complained his wife on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3. He also gave Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher and Chef Marcos Spaziani headaches. Charles’ childish antics and classlessness as he dined and sailed in luxury appalled Below Deck fans. So naturally, fans want to know more about who Erica Rose, Charles are.

Erica Rose is A Bachelor Nation Alumna & Texan Lawyer

Erica Rose Complaining On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

Erica Rose may look familiar to Below Deck fans who watch other reality TV. She first appeared on The Bachelor season 9 , where women competed for cosmetics entrepreneur Prince Lorenzo Borghese’s heart. On the show she portrayed herself as spoiled rich princess who wore tiaras and cost her renowned plastic surgeon father nearly “half a million dollars a year”. She also claimed she “could never live without my maid or my personal astrologer.”

Being a fan-favorite villain, she subsequently appeared on Bachelor Pad season 2 and 3. It was during her time on the 2nd season of Bachelor Pad that Erica Rose was the main victim of an abusive game where men threw eggs at the woman they found least attractive. The infamous “game” left Erica emotionally scarred for years from the bullying on national television, which led to her getting plastic surgery. Inside Edition documented Erica’s transformation, including liposuction around her chin, back, abs, and thighs, as well as breast reduction and lift.

Besides a physical transformation, Erica also changed her career from Paris Hilton socialite to Legally Blonde lawyer. To help give her reputation a makeover, Erica

She wants her own reality TV court show like Judge Judy.

She also appeared on The Dr. Phil show as a “spoiled and entitled” young woman in need of a reality check.

Since then, she has become a successful attorney, mother and wife. She practices entertainment and media law, as well as personal injury, family and defamation law. Erica now makes the big bucks to afford luxury yachting without daddy’s money.

Her Husband Charles Sanders Is A Lawyer Too & They Run A Law Firm Together

Erica Rose's Husband Charles Sanders On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

Charles Sanders, Erica Rose’s husband of five years, is also an attorney and investor. He specializes in car accident lawsuits, and is a partner with his wife at their law firm, Rose Sanders Injury Law . The couple reconnected because of a fat-shamer and the dating app Bumble. Erica and Charles have one daughter together, and Charles is also the stepdad of Erica’s first daughter with ex fiance Galen Gentry .

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Charles Sanders (@charlesksanders)

Charles has taken a lot of heat since his appearance on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 3. It didn’t help that he trashed the food of Chef Marcos and then left a very poor tip of only $6,500.

$6500??? SIX THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR HOW THEY TREATED AND ABUSED THE STAFF?? Disgusting. Anyone know these people in real life can we all troll them ? #BDSY #belowdecksailing #BelowDeckSailingYacht #BelowDeck #Bravo — Herman Munster Shoes (@Discountess_) March 15, 2022

Despite Charles’ villainous persona on Below Deck , on his Instagram he looks like a happy and loving father and husband. After the blowback he faced from fans, Charles said his “gross” comment about Chef Marcos’ food was scripted . Apparently show producers encouraged him to be a jerk while on the yacht. This is the second accusation this year about the Below Deck show crew fabricating drama. Below Deck season 9’s Rayna Lindsey claimed the show is fake back in January. It just goes to show you that reality TV isn’t really real sometimes.

At the end of the week of the last episode with them as charter guests aired, Erica told fans on Instagram she is stressed out from all the social media dragging her family took from being on the show. Charles also posted a nearly two-hour video apologizing for his “despicable and disgusting” behavior on Below Deck .

Exclusive: Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica Rose opens up to Monsters & Critics about things Daisy has said on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Erica Rose has set the record straight on the Daisy Kelliher drama unfolding off-screen.

Erica returned to Below Deck Sailing Yacht for her second stint this week. She was joined by her husband Charles Sanders, mom Cindi Rose, and friends aboard Parsifal III.

Monsters & Critics had the opportunity to speak to Erica after her first episode aired, where she opened up about the things Daisy was saying about her.

Erica Rose sets the record straight on Daisy Kelliher drama

Erica revealed she and Daisy kept in touch after her Season 2 appearance on Below Deck Sailing Yacht through social media. They weren’t best friends, but Erica did recall Daisy reaching out after Erica lost some weight to compliment her.

“I’m not saying we were close friends, but one of those like casual, keeping in touch things,” Erica shared.

Even when Erica and her group were filming, Erica didn’t suspect that Daisy didn’t like her. Although she did feel like Daisy’s vibe was different the second time around, Erica was in the dark about Daisy’s true feelings until recently.

Erica first learned something was wrong when Daisy blocked her on Instagram.

“I thought that was really weird. Like, I wonder what’s going on?” she expressed. “That was before the episode even aired. It was like right before the season premiered. Once the season premiered, they kept plugging our episode, like our charter, you know, at the end of every episode. And then I saw an interview come out because, you know, I get Google search engine alerts, especially with our law firm. The first article came out that it was like she was dreading our charter, and they started slowly releasing that.”

The reality TV personality admitted that Daisy did keep in touch with other guests despite what Daisy said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight. Erica spilled she knows the chief stew kept touch with some of the other ladies from her charter.

“So, she was blatantly lying to say she didn’t keep in touch with people,” she stated.

Erica went on to admit Daisy didn’t block her on Twitter, alluding to her still wanting to be in touch. However, Erica feels Daisy blocking her on Instagram was strategic to prevent Erica from “coming with receipts” that they had exchanged messages previously.

As for why Daisy’s attitude changed toward Erica, The Bachelor alum has no idea, but it was a shocker.

“I don’t know why her attitude changed with me, truly, but it was definitely surprising to me. I don’t think I would have come back if she had expressed it because going into it, I knew that Daisy and Gary and Colin and Captain Glenn were the only ones returning,” Erica shared.

The blonde beauty learned about the returning crew members from chef Natasha De Bourg, with whom Erica has remained friendly since Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2.

Erica would not have returned for Season 3 had she known Daisy’s true feelings about her.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Erica Rose ? Sanders (@ericatherose)

How were things between Erica and Daisy during Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3 filming?

As mentioned above, Erica had no idea the animosity Daisy had towards her until the chief stew started doing interviews and tweeted about Erica during the most recent episode.

Erica opened up about filming, sharing the vibe she got from Daisy.

“She wasn’t super friendly, but at the same time, she is a professional at her job. So she wasn’t like she wasn’t going to walk around being rude,” Erica said.

It’s a reality show, and things are edited out. One thing Erica revealed was edited out was that when Daisy asked if Erica wanted someone to unpack, Erica replied, “Only if it’s not going to be a problem.” However, the scene came across as Erica requesting someone to unpack for her.

To set the record straight, Erica does pack her things when she goes on a family vacation. She doesn’t expect it to be done for her.

Erica admitted that Daisy was very good at her job, checking in on them and even taking pictures with the group.

“She’s very good at pretending to be nice to other people, and then doing things behind people’s back. And so, I guess I would have liked it more, and she probably couldn’t because of her job but if she would have shown me any indication that she was unhappy or, you know, just out of respect, instead of doing it all behind my back,” Erica expressed about Daisy’s feelings toward her.

The simple fact is, Erica wished Daisy would have kept it real. Erica referenced Allie Dore from Season 2, whom Erica admitted she could read and declared the stew never hid her feelings.

“I respect it more when someone is transparent,” she explained.

Erica Rose from Below Deck Sailing Yacht has set the record straight on the drama chief stew Daisy Kelliher.

The charter guest isn’t sure if Daisy’s actions were encouraged or if Daisy truly feels that way about her. What Erica does wish is that the chief stew would have been honest with her.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.

Might want to watch Daisy’s Instagram show to get the real story. I don’t believe a word that comes out of Erica’s mouth. She’s known to be difficult to deal with and two faced since her days on The Bachelor. Just giving her version of things doesn’t make the article very believable.

James

You mean she wanted to be told how awful her behavior and especially her dorky husband’s were perceived. He seemed like an addict.

RB

Why would Daisy be happy to see such slobs return to the yacht? Both you and your husband are disrespectful and rude.

Anastasia Beaverhousin

It’s B.S. she’s deflecting because she and her husband look like the vial nouveau riche scum bags they are money doesn’t buy class but it sure as hell makes feel like you can show your ass!!!!!

Compliments to the chef!

Since its debut in 2013, Bravo's hit reality franchise Below Deck has seen a diverse array of culinary talents from all over the world. As meals are a pivotal part of the luxury yacht experience, these chefs are brought on board to ensure guests are entirely satisfied (and feel generous with their tips).

Across 11 seasons of Below Deck and its many spinoffs — Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck Sailing Yacht , Below Deck Down Under and Below Deck Adventure — fans have witnessed the eclectic personalities of these chefs. Some mesh perfectly with the crew while others clash; some thrive in the superyacht's demanding, fast-paced environment while others crumble and some are just stuck in their ways.

From the OG Ben Robinson to fan favorites like Rachel Hargrove , here are all of the chefs who have spiced up the Below Deck universe.

Ben Robinson

Below Deck (Seasons 1–4)

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 1, 4)

Ben Robinson was the first-ever chef on Below Deck, his boastful attitude, killer food and hot temper set the template for all of the franchise's chefs to come.

During his time on the series, Robinson famously clashed with chief stewardess Kate Chastain , the duo's love-hate relationship fueling much of the drama in Below Deck 's early seasons.

He left Below Deck after season 2, only to return to the Caribbean in season 3 upon chef Leon Walker's exit. He then helped Bravo kick off Below Deck Mediterranean , the second installment of the franchise. Robinson wound up heading back to Below Deck for season 4, and then exiting amid a romance with second stew Emily Warburton-Adams (though the two later split).

He last worked in the kitchen on Below Deck Mediterranean season 4, where he came in as a replacement for chef Mila Kolomeitseva. Robinson now makes regular appearances on Below Deck Galley Talk.

Leon Walker

Below Deck (Season 3)

Leon Walker didn't make it through a complete season of Below Deck , exiting with only a few charters left to go. His departure came after a fire started in the galley — though he blamed it on his rival Chastain, Capt. Lee Rosbach ultimately pinned it on him.

While Walker may not have lasted until the end, his love of beef cheeks (and his inability to seemingly make anything else but them) lives on as one of Below Deck 's most memorable punchlines.

Below Deck Mediterranean (Seasons 2–3)

Below Deck Sailing Yacht (Season 1)

Adam Glick's talent in the kitchen was never a problem, the California surfer churned out some of the most praised food in the history of the franchise (that is, when he stuck to the preference sheet, as #OnionGate proved). Where Glick struggled? His relationships.

In his first season on Below Deck Mediterranean , Glick was involved in a love triangle with lead deckhand Malia White — whom he met before the show began, but kept from producers — and bosun Wesley Walton. She eventually chose Walton, much to Glick's anger (he wound up hitting Walton during an intense night out).

He mostly stayed out of trouble for his second Mediterranean season, but found himself in another crew-mance in Below Deck Sailing Yacht , when he and chief stew Jenna MacGillivray began hooking up. Their relationship didn't last, Glick saying that it was "very, very difficult for him." Viewers, meanwhile, criticized him for his bad attitude and inflated sense of self-worth.

After 12 years living and working on the open ocean, Glick declared he was "f------ over it," telling Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live! that he was "ready to live his life on land."

Below Deck (Season 5)

Matt Burns' culinary skills kept the guests happy on season 5 of Below Deck . But outside of the galley, the chef wasn't as successful.

First, he struck out in love with stew Brianna Adekeye on a disastrous beach date. Then he tried to rekindle his romance with his ex-girlfriend, whom he had broken up with before the start of the charter season, but she rejected his advances. At least the charter guests always liked his food.

Adrian Martin

Below Deck (Season 6)

Adrian Martin was a breath of fresh air compared to previous chefs. The yoga-loving, meditating, Sint Maarten-born chef stayed centered during his days in the galley. But his free-flowing nature had a downside when inappropriate comments he made toward Laura Betancourt crossed the line. Martin left the show at the end of the season after taking a gig in New York City as a private chef.

Mila Kolomeitseva

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 4)

Perhaps the most controversial chef in Below Deck history, Mila Kolomeitseva was fired by Capt. Sandy Yawn during the season's third charter.

Kolomeitseva shocked viewers from the beginning of her time on the charter yacht, when she licked raw steak and wanted to serve guests nachos made with jarred salsa and canned corn.

She struggled to make pancakes from a box and served canned seafood on the second charter, which led Captain Sandy to take the guests out for their final lunch and put third stewardess Anastasia Surmava — an inexperienced chef — on lead for dinner service.

As she left , she said she wouldn't give up cooking. "Of course it makes me feel awful," Kolomeitseva said on the show. "People like me who have big egos sometimes have to be put down to earth a little bit. But it makes me feel like I want to work even harder."

Kevin Dobson

Below Deck (Season 7)

Kevin Dobson hit rough seas during his time on Below Deck , thanks to ongoing tensions with Chastain.

The two could not seem to get along all season, frustrations between them spilling over when Chastain had Dobson present a birthday cake to guests well after the primary charter guests (and birthday girl) had gone to bed.

By the finale party, things took a turn for the worse. The New Zealander told Chastain he didn't like her and kicked sand in her face. He apologized at the reunion but didn't return for another season.

Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 5)

Hindrigo "Kiko" Lorran made it halfway through season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean before Captain Sandy made the call to can him. Things started to go downhill for Lorran when he was criticized for his plating and organizational skills.

He tried his best to step it up but fumbled when guests asked for a dinner built around Las Vegas, a place he'd never been and was not familiar with. Chief stew Hannah Ferrier suggested truffle fries and nachos, which Loran paired with fried chicken and shrimp cocktail. Ultimately, the fried food was a fumble, and Captain Sandy fired him.

He did get redemption, though, staying until the end of the charter and impressing the guests with a fabulous dinner. "I made the guests happy in the end," he told BravoTV.com's Daily Dish, after his exit. "I felt great."

Tom Checketts

Tom Checketts was brought in to replace Lorran for the second half of Below Deck Mediterranean 's fifth season. He came in with a connection to the cast, dating Malia White, the show's bosun. Their romance was surely put to the test by Checketts' arrival.

From the jump, he was frustrated and flustered, snapping at stewardesses and stressing about provisions. When White could calm him and give him some support in the galley, Checketts' food was mostly always praised by guests. But sadly, her involvement came to her own detriment, leading to conflict between White and Captain Sandy.

All in all, Checketts help saved the Wellington crew from disaster, but his relationship with White didn't last much longer. After the season wrapped, the two announced they had gone their separate ways.

Rachel Hargrove

Below Deck (Seasons 8–10)

Rachel Hargrove's food has earned rave reviews from every charter guest. Even Captain Lee praised her as one of the best yacht chefs he's ever worked with!

Originally from Tampa, Fla., Hargrove is predominantly self-taught, though has honed her craft through the years studying and cooking in restaurants all around the world. In the kitchen, she takes no prisoners.

And below deck, she's the same way — her outspoken personality and no-nonsense attitude lead to clashes with everyone from First Officer Eddie Lucas to Captain Lee himself, whom she famously cursed at before quitting before a charter in season 8 (she came back the next day, after cooling down).

Natasha De Bourg

Below Deck Sailing Yacht (Season 2)

Natasha De Bourg's time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht may be best remembered for #PitaGate, a name hilariously given to the controversy that erupted after she seemingly exaggerated the number of pita bread slices she made for one meal.

It caused tension between her and chief stewardess Daisy Kelliher , one of the many kitchen-related culinary conflicts the two encountered throughout the season.

In the end, they were able to leave the show as friends and Kelliher had the last laugh, starting a podcast called Pita Party with fellow stews Alli Dore and Dani Soares .

Mathew Shea

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 6)

Mathew Shea made a splash from the second he walked into season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean, backing out on the first meal due to a health condition that he later admitted was fueled by anxiety.

Drama followed the Rhode Island-born chef all season long, though not in the galley, where he consistently produced incredible food (even after burning half of his fingers). Instead, he often butted heads with chief stew Katie Flood and feuded with his crew mates — including stew Lexi Wilson, who wound up leaving the show after an intense argument.

Since the season wrapped, Shea's continued to have conflict with his costars, calling Captain Sandy at the reunion "one of the worst captains I've ever worked with in my 15 years on boats."

Jessica Condy

Below Deck Adventure (Season 1)

The South African chef was undeniably talented, but her perfectionist tendencies often clashed with the Mercury crew, particularly chief stew Faye Clarke. Jessica Condy frequently expressed frustration over guests' food requests and followed her own rules. Eventually, she confided in Capt. Kerry Titheradge that she felt burned out and considered quitting, but she stayed until the end of the season.

Marcos Spaziani

Below Deck Sailing Yacht (Season 3)

Before stepping on the Parsifal III , Marcos Spaziani had been working as a chef for 10 years, after attending culinary school in Venezuela.

Cooking a combination of gourmet Venezuelan, Italian, Korean and American food, Spaziani's culinary creations were mostly well received by charter guests — even if his portions needed to be a little bit bigger.

But the thing that set him apart from others? His incredible endurance and dedication to his job were on display when he kept cooking after accidentally knocking his head and scrapping off a layer of his scalp (eww).

Ryan McKeown

Below Deck Down Under (Season 1)

Ryan McKeown has all the makings of a classic Below Deck chef: super talented, super hard-working and super arrogant.

Philadelphia-born McKeown didn't waste a second clashing with chief stewardess Aesha Scott over time maintenance, and quickly let guests know he wouldn't be letting them dictate his menus.

"My style of cooking is take the ingredients and let them shine," he said in the premiere episode. Ultimately, his unpleasant behaviors lead to him getting the boot from Capt. Jason Chambers .

With more superyacht chef experience than McKeown, Nate Post hopped aboard the My Thalassa as his replacement and had to begin cooking for the guests right away in a disorganized galley. Thankfully, Post proved he was the right fit for the job and managed to foster more cordial relationships with the crew than McKeown.

David White

Laurent Basset/Bravo via Getty

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 7)

U.K.-born Dave White joined the Home crew with plenty of experience as a yacht chef, serving up some of the series' best dishes (despite messing up a few pancakes for former NFL player Dominique Easley). However, his romantic entanglement with chief stew Natasha Webb slightly overshadowed his cooking skills. Their previous off-screen hookup led to some juicy drama, with White sending Webb texts threatening to spill their secrets to the crew.

Ileisha Dell

Fred Jagueneau/Bravo

Below Deck Sailing Yacht (Season 4)

Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht had no shortage of love drama between the crew — from casual flings to messy love triangles — but chef Ileisha Dell stayed far away from all of it, even with deckhand Chase Lemacks setting his sights on her. Instead, Dell docked herself in the galley, crafting exquisite 10-course meals and whipping up guest favorites like johnnycakes.

Tzarina Mace-Ralph

Mark Rogers/Bravo

Below Deck Down Under (Season 2)

Tzarina Mace-Ralph quickly became one of the most entertaining chefs in the Below Deck franchise. All the way from Bristol, U.K., Mace-Ralph was witty, unafraid of speaking her mind and self-disciplined, balancing her time making elaborate meals in the galley and forging meaningful connections with the crew. She also had room for romance, with both deckhand Culver Bradbury and bosun João Franco.

Fred Jagueneau/Bravo via Getty

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 8)

Chef Jack Luby brought 14 years of cooking expertise to Mustique but little superyacht experience. While he shined in the galley and put together delicious fare, the Liverpool resident still had his missteps (he particularly disliked making eggs !). Despite these challenges, Luby stayed focused and out of the drama, especially when it came to the drawn-out feud between third stew Natalya Scudder and chief stew Tumi Mhlongo.

Anthony Iracane

Below Deck (Season 11)

Anthony Iracane had big shoes to fill after Rachel Hargrove wrapped up her three-season stint on Below Deck . When the French chef hopped aboard the St. David , the Frenchman's cool, calm and collected demeanor seemed promising — until it wasn't.

Though he got along with the crew, he failed to prepare food on time, delayed the beach picnic and struggled to keep up with the charter's tiresome pace. Chief steward Fraser Olender had no choice but to let go of Iracane, making him the third staff member to exit that season.

However, it was revealed Iracane was going through personal struggles while filming, admitting in a confessional: "To make amazing food, I need to be very happy, and I’m very sad. So, my food sucks."

Nick Tatlock

Filling Iracane's spot, Nick Tatlock may have had a harder time fitting in as the oldest member of the St. David crew. But with 22 years of culinary experience, Tatlock effortlessly impressed guests with his tasty dishes and stellar work ethic. Plus, his quirky, playful personality made him a delightful addition to the show.

Johnathan Shillingford

Below Deck Mediterranean (Season 9)

Despite boasting seven years of yachting experience, chef Johnathan Shillingford has faced rough waters on the Mystique . Several guests expressed dissatisfaction with their meals, leaving crew members to question his level of professionalism. And surprisingly, Shillingford appears unfazed by the negative feedback, showing little effort to improve his performance.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Trishelle cannatella lashes out after she’s accused of faking below deck med behavior to repair reputation, this below deck med star refuses to take responsibility for poor performance amid producer interference accusations.

  • Captain Mark Howard didn't return to Below Deck Mediterranean after season 1, making way for Captain Sandy in later seasons.
  • Captain Mark was known for his strict but effective leadership style, organizing donkeys and pushing his crew to excel.
  • Captain Mark's passing in 2021 left a lasting legacy, with crew members like Hannah Ferrier praising him as a great captain and friend.

Captain Mark Howard will never return to Below Deck Mediterranean again because of an unexpected tragedy. The Below Deck spinoff premiered in May 2016 and featured a new setup and location. Season 1 gave viewers returning stars like Chef Ben Robinson and new crew members like Captain Mark. When Below Deck Mediterranean season 1 aired almost eight years ago, it seemed like a breath of fresh air because of Captain Mark’s colonel-like personality. He managed the crew boldly, gave them strikes for their childish mistakes , and showed he knew how to handle guests.

Captain Mark accomplished many things during his stint in Below Deck Mediterranean season 1. He organized donkeys to assist guests traverse the mountains and motivated his crew to perform better. At one point, he taught one of his employees a lesson. He slammed Deckhand Danny Zureikat for being the most toxic crew member on the boat and criticized his subpar performance. Consequently, Captain Mark sent Danny home and advised him to consider a different career path outside the luxury yacht industry. Although Captain Mark was outstanding in season 1, he didn’t return to the franchise in later seasons.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Captain Mark Was Replaced By Captain Sandy

Captain sandy has been leading below deck mediterranean since 2017.

Captain Mark fulfilled multiple charters in Below Deck Mediterranean season 1. He successfully handled the team, pushing them to grow. Unfortunately, Captain Mark didn’t return in the second season. Captain Sandra “Sandy” Yawn replaced Captain Mark by becoming the new face of the spin-off. Since 2017, the 59-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident has been the lead star of Below Deck Mediterranean . Sandy has grown older in the last seven years and picked up some injuries. Despite that, Captain Sandy has given Below Deck Mediterranean its flavor, separating it from other spinoffs like Below Deck Sailing Yacht and Below Deck Down Under .

Hannah Ferrier Talked Highly Of Captain Mark

Hannah called captain mark a great friend.

Mark wasn’t only an amazing captain, but also close to his crew members. While he was strict, it didn’t stop him from connecting with his team and leaving a lasting impression on them. Over the years, many Below Deck Mediterranean season 1 crew members have positively talked about him. Their sweet responses prove that Captain Mark was truly one of a kind and nice to everyone . In 2021, Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier posted a photo of Captain Mark.

Hannah stated Mark was “a great captain, friend and colleague,” adding he was always a gentleman.

Captain Mark Passed Away

Captain mark died in december 2021 at the age of 65.

Captain Mark was iconic, just like other Below Deck captains.

Sadly, he wasn’t a good fit for the dramatic reality TV life, so he left the show to live a more private life.

He stayed far away from the limelight for years to come, enjoying his married life with his wife, Susan. Unfortunately, he tragically passed away in 2021, leaving a short but incredible legacy behind. According to People , Captain Mark died because of “hypertensive cardiovascular disease with chronic alcoholism.” Captain Mark will forever be remembered for his exceptional mentorship on Below Deck Mediterranean .

Below Deck Mediterranean Has Changed Since Captain Mark Left

It has blown up.

Bravo 's Below Deck Mediterranean has become one of the most popular reality TV shows on television, and Captain Mark's pioneering first season had a lot to do with that success. When Captain Sandy took over for Captain Mark, she became the one and only female captain in the whole Below Deck franchise. Captain Sandy has prided herself on building women up, running a tight ship where the safety of the guests and crew is of the utmost importance, and making sure that she knows everything going on on the boat.

Captain Sandy's perhaps most controversial move on the show was firing Hannah in season 5. Captain Sandy has also been criticized for her micromanaging style and the way she talks to her crew, but that's only made the show arguably more entertaining.

In the last year, Below Deck fans have seen a lot of Captain Sandy as Below Deck Med season 9 began only five months after season 8 ended.

Over the last eight years, Below Deck Med has delivered many memorable boatmances, crew drama, deck mishaps, and both shocking and funny moments with memorable cast members.

Captain Mark Howard left a lasting legacy in the Below Deck Mediterranean series, and he is remembered for his temperament and starting off the spinoff show on the right foot. Captain Sandy has been a fantastic addition to the show, as have returning crew choices like Chief Stew Aesha Scott. Below Deck Mediterranean keeps getting better, and will likely continue to entertain fans for many years to come.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Wildfires Threaten Below Deck Mediterranean’s Entire Charter Season: “We Gotta F-cking Go”

"I have to figure out how to get out," Captain Sandy Yawn said as she navigated a scary issue on Below Deck Mediterranean.

below deck sailing yacht season 3 guests erica

While a good crew can control almost every detail of a guest's experience on a mega yacht, they can't control the weather. And sometimes, that sets the course for an entire charter.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

During Season 9, Episode 7 of Below Deck Mediterranean , viewers got a glimpse of the wildfires that tore through Greece in summer 2023. While docked in Athens, Captain Sandy Yawn and crew were pressured to get on the road (er, sea) because of the blazing fires nearby.

"If we don't get off the dock, we're spending the day in the bulk of the smoke," the captain explained before the next batch of guests arrived. Once they did make it onto the boat, she called bosun Iain Maclean up to the bridge to chat. While the waves were looking better (which meant they could depart without major seasickness!), another super yacht had docked right in front of them.

"Typically, I wouldn't take the risk to leave the dock, but because we have so much smoke coming in I have to get this vessel off the dock, so I'm going to take the risk," Sandy shared in a confessional. "It's crazy. You can see the fires over the hill, I have clients on the boat, and I can smell the ash that's on top of us. I have to figure out how to get out. There's six inches between the ground line, the dock, and the other boats. I'm boxed in, and if I make one wrong maneuver, the season is over."

After dismissing Iain, she let deck crew know their escape window had arrived and they needed to head out. While it was pretty tight to navigate, the pressure was on.

"We've gotta f-cking go," someone exclaimed over the radio.

Captain Sandy Yawn reacts to weather challenges on charter

Earlier in the episode, Sandy foreshadowed the issues while discussing the weather.

“We may be delayed a little bit. It’s a little rough,” she told Aesha Scott about 30 minutes before guests were supposed to arrive. All over the boat, the crew was watching the wind pick up.

“I can’t have a lot of wind when I’m trying to maneuver out of the slip,” the captain added in a confessional. “I have to wait for a weather window. We have to get off the dock before the fires get closer and the smoke starts coming into the marina. So we have to be ready when it’s time.”

Captain sandy explains the anchor issue on mustique.

Before the wildfire conundrum,Sandy had trouble even getting to the marina . At the end of Episode 6 and beginning of Episode 7, the crew was dealing with a "scary" and "f-cking expensive" anchor issue that made their guests miss their flights.

"The anchor shaft isn't working, so we're going to have to leave the anchor," Sandy explained in the episode. "We put the buoy on it and get the divers, and then we get it transported back to the marina. And then we install it there, because we need our anchor."

Luckily, a team was able to retrieve the (important) piece of equipment. But while that issue is solved, we still don't know what will come of the current problem. Find out if Mustique makes it out to sea without incident by tuning into Below Deck Mediterranean  Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo. You can also stream the next day on Peacock.
