The First Amels 200 Has Launched

Amels in the Netherlands has launched its first Amels 200 , which is an evolution of the builder’s Limited Editions Amels 188.
Hull No. 1 of the Amels 200 has a length overall of 197 feet. Interiors are by Reymond Langton Design, with exteriors by Tim Heywood. Naval architecture is by Damen Yachting.
“There are many features of this design that bring a smile to my face,” Heywood stated in a press release. “The many flying buttresses, the complex winding surfaces, the upturned deck ends, the integrated life rafts, the sculptural mast and the complex stern—all form a harmonious design that sits securely in her environment, of which I am extremely proud. I believe her delicate, fluid lines will prove to be timeless, and she will still look as attractive in 50 years’ time, as she does now.”
Gross tonnage on the Amels 200 is 1,015. Power is hybrid-electric. Features include an elevator that services four decks, an air-conditioned gymnasium on the sundeck, and full-height windows in the owners’ stateroom. Accommodations are for 12 guests and 13 crew.
Burgess represented the owner in purchasing the yacht, which is expected to be delivered later this year.
What else is new at Amels and Damen Yachting? They just announced the sale of the 180-foot yacht support vessel Gene Chaser , which has a research laboratory on board. Gene Chaser will be used alongside the 180-foot Amels Gene Machine .

AMELS Yachts – Operating Since 1918
The Netherlands has a rich history of prosperous shipyards. Shipbuilding companies like Feadship, Royal De Vries, and VanDutch are all based in this country.
But very few of them can claim to be as old as Amels. However, age isn’t the only noteworthy thing about Amels Yachts. They’ve got so much more going for them.

AMELS yachts brief history
Amels shipyard was founded in 1918. For about 64 years, they built magnificent sailing yachts—among other types of maritime vessels. In 1982, they shifted their focus to luxury superyachts.
From this point, it became the goal of many high-net-worth people to own an “ Amel.”
The shipyard specialized in semi-custom superyachts and often created a frenzy with their Limited Edition “Amels” series.
This is the case with the series designed by Tim Heywood. One of the yachts from this series is the 50-m Tigre d’Or .
The intermingled histories of the Amel shipyard and Damen Yachting (DY) might lead one to believe that both companies have always existed as one.
But it’s important to know that even though DY owns Amels (as it has for more than a hundred years), the latter had existed for about nine years before its present parent company (DY) was founded in 1927.
Notable Launches
Amels yachts built and launched the Hona in 2004. Redman Whitely Dixon designed it, and it measures 82m.
They also constructed Here Comes The Sun in 2016. It’s their largest yacht yet, with a length of 89m and a top speed of 17 knots.
Amels has two shipyards, both of which have climate control technology and house up to more than 200-m yachts. Their services include the designing, building, and refitting of vessels.

Amels - Masters of Time
Established in 1918, the pedigree and heritage behind Amels stretch back centuries. With Dutch family shipbuilding at the core. In 1918, in Makkum, in the North of Holland, the Amels family laid a legacy that has since evolved over the years.
From building wooden fishing boats, steel tugboats, and coasters to becoming one of the first movers in building superyachts as we know them today.
The first Amels superyacht, the KATALINA, made an immediate impact. And as she sails the oceans decades on, she represents the birth of the steadily-growing Amels fleet which is recognised as the pinnacle of luxury superyachts.
When Kommer Damen, second-generation owner of Damen Shipyards, acquired Amels in 1991, the brand became part of the Damen family’s own shipbuilding group. Adding yet another century of his own family’s unique Dutch shipbuilding experience and expertise whilst retaining the Amels brand and preserving its roots.
Implementing his successful, proven platform shipbuilding philosophy. Boosting Amels proven practice of growing strong, smart, and resilient by adapting and evolving.

Since their relocation in 2003, all Amels yachts are built in Vlissingen in the south-west of the Netherlands, a centre of shipbuilding excellence for over 700 years. Their location is the largest superyacht facility in the Netherlands and home to over 1,500 craftsmen and women.
Today Rose Damen, of the third-generation of her shipbuilding family stands firmly at the helm of Damen Yachting.

Eighth Amels 60 superyacht enters outfitting in the Netherlands
The eighth unit in the Amels 60 series has entered outfitting following her recent arrival at Damen Yachting 's shipyard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands. She has joined the seventh Amels 60 , with both yachts scheduled for delivery in 2025.
The Amels 60 was introduced to the market in 2019 and features an exterior design by Espen Øino , including the geometric windows that have become the series' trademark. Notable sisterships include the first unit in the series, Come Together , which was recently sold at a last known asking price of €59,950,000 . The Dutch yard's second unit, Entourage , won a Neptune at this year's World Superyacht Awards .
Accommodation will be for 12 guests and 12 crew, including the captain. This unit's custom interiors are courtesy of London-based Design Studio, who have opted for a "modern and smart approach".
Model highlights include a folding, 75-square-metre balcony in the owner's suite and the sundeck, which measures 162 square metres and is typically arranged with a six-person Jacuzzi, a bar and a raised foredeck for sunbathing that doubles as a helipad. There is also the option to install glass windbreakers for dining while underway.
The Amels 60 features a hybrid propulsion package for a maximum speed of 15.5 knots on full power and 14 knots when "eco cruising". When propelled purely by the hybrid electrical drive motors, the model reaches a top speed of seven knots.
In recent news, the sixth unit in the series hit the water and debuted her custom hull, which has been painted a "striking" shade of blue.

The Amels 200 design offers high volume and outstanding comfort for her 12 guests. Some of the standout features include the four-deck elevator to take guests up to the air-conditioned gym on the Sun Deck, the hybrid power technology and her proven ability to perform with reduced emissions.

Amel's first boat, the Super Mistral Sport, was built in Marseille after he took over a failing shipyard. The boat itself was a success, but the business failed. The craftsmen at AMELS share the rich, centuries-old tradition of nautical excellence in Vlissingen. With direct access to the North Sea, the yard can accommodate new builds and refits for even the largest of private yachts up to 200 metres. Today the AMELS yard covers 100,000sq m, including fully climate-controlled covered drydocks.
The 89 m (292 ft) superyacht Here Comes The Sun was launched by Amels Holland B.V. at their yard in Vlissingen.
