Cala Llonga

Cala d’Or

Port de Cala d’Or – updated 30 January 2023.

Port de Cala d’Or is a charming and picturesque marina located on the southeast coast of Majorca, Spain. This small port town is known for its clear blue waters, golden sand beaches, and charming atmosphere.

Port de Cala d'Or

Cala d’Or, often referred to as the ‘Golden Bay’ is a very popular holiday resort particularly suited to families located in the southeast of the island.

The name ‘Golden Bay’ derives from the fact that it is located furthest away from the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, which have a disruptive effect on weather patterns and therefore it benefits from increased sunshine hours. It also happens to be close to some of the best beaches in Mallorca.

The marina is surrounded by a range of shops, restaurants, and cafes, making it a popular spot for a leisurely lunch or an evening out. Visitors can also enjoy a range of water sports, including jet skiing, paddleboarding, and snorkelling, in the crystal-clear waters of the marina.

Port de Cala d’Or

The port is located in Cala Llonga due to space, access and winds. Cala Llonga provides sufficient room for nearly 600 moorings and with the exception of strong easterly winds, it is sheltered and well protected from the weather.

Cala d’Or Yacht Club

The beautiful marina is very well equipped and includes the Cala d’Or Yacht Club, most of which is open to non-members. On the quayside, you will find a good assortment of supermarkets, exclusive shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants.

Modern marina

Port de Cala d’Or has a 30,000 m2 offshore berthing esplanade and provides all of the services you would expect to find in a modern marina including mechanical assistance, technical service, cleaning & hull treatment. The marina is one of the largest in Mallorca behind the more popular marinas of  Puerto Portals ,  Palma ,  Port Adriano  and  Andratx .

Scenic coves

The resort is attractive due to its multitude of small scenic coves and sandy beaches, these being Cala Ferrera, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Serena, Cala Gran, and Cala Llonga with each of these having their own distinctive character & main street where you will find the typical assortment of souvenir shops, pubs & restaurants.

Port de Cala d’Or

Each of the coves benefit from charming little beaches framed by cliffs and woodland; however, being small, they do get very crowded during the summer months.

Countryside

Another popular activity in Port de Cala d’Or is exploring the surrounding countryside. The town is surrounded by stunning cliffs, hills, and valleys, making it a popular destination for hikers and cyclists. Visitors can take in breath-taking views of the coast and the surrounding landscape, or explore one of the many charming villages that dot the countryside.

The port town is also home to a variety of cultural and historical attractions, including the nearby village of  Santanyi , which is known for its weekly market selling locally-made crafts and produce. Visitors can also explore the historic castle of Santueri, which dates back to the 13th century and offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Local attractions include the 18th-century historic fort ‘Es Fortí ’ and the ‘ Parc Natural de Mondragó ’ nature reserve.

Overall, Port de Cala d’Or is a charming and beautiful marina town, offering a range of activities for visitors to enjoy. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day by the water, a chance to explore the stunning surroundings, or a taste of Majorcan culture, this port town has something to offer for everyone.

We want to say a massive thank you for everything you have done for us in the run up to our wedding, the communication throughout was fantastic, everything we wanted and spoke to you about was all arranged with such fine detail that there was nothing we needed to alter or add when we met with Sergio and Luis a few days before we married.

Shane & Aidan, 9th July 2014

As we sit down to write this review the first thing that comes into our heads is "WHERE do we start?!!" Myself and my partner Aidan got married here on the 9th July 2014.

From when we first emailed the FABULOUS Claire way back in October 2012 to enquire about the yacht Club as a wedding venue, we were delighted with the fast friendly and helpful email we received back very quickly. And it all started from there!

We made plans to go and visit the Yacht Club the following May 2013 for their open wedding weekend and WE WERE BLOWN AWAY the minute we set eyes on the venue and location. We were welcomed by the friendliest of staff as we walked around just soaking up the atmosphere. We were so afraid that surely it cant be this good. Well how wrong we were!! We sat with Claire that Saturday AND from that moment we knew we just had to book our date. Claire introduced us both to Sergio the manager and the rest of the yacht club team..Luis..Sylvia and co. We were so impressed at how professional YET relaxing they all were and from that day we just wanted the wedding to roll in as quick as possible.

We confirmed our date that weekend and actually returned to the yacht club that night for a meal. Which again was AMAZING. The service, staff and atmosphere were just magical.

On returning home we wanted to get things rolling so....not surprisingly Claire was ALWAYS at the end of an email or a skype call. Luis was amazing also advising us of various accommodation available during the week of our wedding. We wanted 2 villas for both families and he helped out greatly with this info. The villas were in a perfect location with regard to cala d'or center AND the Yacht Club so for this Luis, thank you so much.

Now as the months rolled by not once did we feel stressed or "Should we not be doing things for the wedding??" No...Claire was in control and had a reply to EVERY email. Even if we did send some at ridiculous times in the morning!! That right Claire??!! Claire organised everything from the BBQ the evening before our wedding,to the priest, Linda Cade, the florist, hair and make up, the spanish guitarist, fireworks, the wedding cake, the brazilian dancers, table plans and signage we wanted outside around the venue. As the big day rolled in closer Claire was ALWAYS available for those last minute skype calls and emails.

Now from the minute we arrived in Cala d'Or on the 5th of July 2014 we were blown away again about how relaxed EVERYTHING was and therefore we were even more relaxed and really enjoyed the "HOLIDAY" with all our 84 guests! We had a few meetings each day with Sergio who was unbelievable at keeping us informed of all stages of the week and definitely runs a very professional ship! (Excuse the pun) We had asked for a bbq the evening before our wedding at our Villa. Yet again this was no problem for Sergio and his team. They arrived at the villa at 4pm to set up areas and had everything under control and Sergio was there in person overseeing things. A big thank you to Maria as well for her very friendly and professional service that evening! Thank you Maria and the 2 chefs! xx The food was delicious and there was plenty to go around.

Before we get to the big day we feel it is important at this point to mention our photographers!! Richard & Hannah!! All we can say about these guys is WoW!!!!! They really are unbelievable at what they do!! We met them on Tuesday before the wedding to go through EVERYTHING from where we would be standing, to where we would be sitting for the meal etc. They also did a fantastic job at keeping us relaxed and as for their final product...their photos and the photobooth were amazing. If you get a chance you should check them out on facebook. Thank you so much Richard and Hannah and your team of snipers clicking away even up on the roof of the Yacht Club. Now the wedding day!!

From when we arrived at the club on the 9th July (Separately to get ready) Sergio, Luis, Silvia, Maria and the rest of the team were unreal and made us both and our wedding party feel so special and relaxed. At this point can we just say Silvia you are unreal at what you do. The whole venue, not just the wedding room looked exactly how we had imagined if not BETTER. You made both mothers feel so special and very very relaxed, emotional and happy!! Thank you so much Silvia.xx

Luis really stepped up to the mark on the day from making sure the music and musicians were ready and the whole preparation time he kept us informed of all developments. Thank you Luis.

Our priest , Linda Cade added that very special personal touch to our ceremony. What turned out to be a very emotional ceremony, Linda embraced this but yet give the guests a lift with her humour etc. The ceremony was so special to us Linda and for this we say thank you. We cant wait to see the DVD as a lot of the ceremony was a blur to us both!

The ceremony was followed by canapes and a drinks reception on the proa terrace and the spanish guitarist went down a treat entertaining our guests until we were called for the meal.

Now the meal...each and every guest could not get over the standard of the wedding meal. The mojito sorbets really went down a treat also. The food was piping hot, there was more than enough to go around. Two of our guests celebrated a very special wedding anniversary on our wedding day, yet again this was no problem for Claire/Sergio who organised a cake to present to the happy couple during our speeches.

Following the meal our guests moved back outside onto the proa terrace where Sergio had over seen the setting up of the brazilian dancers to tie in with our "First Dance". One word to describe these dancers is AMAZING! Our guests are still talking about them and we had a very enjoyable and active first dance!!

The evening meal also served outside was delicious with paella cooked live by the chef and also cold buffet and cheese boards. Then we had the cutting of the cake outside and for us personally this was the highlight of the day.

All our guests were situated outside the yacht club and as soon as our knife cut down on the cake, the skies surrounding the yacht club lit up with our fireworks display. This really was the icing on the cake! ;-)

Back inside the party kept going and this was partly down to the excellent bar staff who provided an unreal service the whole day/night. Our music was provided by Nicky who we HIGHLY recommend. He had all our 84 guests rocking the dance floor followed by the DJ.who kept our wedding going well into the early hours of the next morning.

We stayed in the yacht club and all we can say about their Wedding Suite is it is pure luxury.

Sadly for us the 9th of July 2014 has come and gone BUT all we can say is, if your reading this review and thinking about booking the Yacht Club for your special day..DONT THINK ANY MORE JUST book it! you definitely will be blown away by Sergio and his team! Our guests are STILL talking about the whole experience and it is a very special memory for both of us, so from the two of us can we just say one last big THANK YOU to the WHOLE Yacht Club team for everything. Shane & Aidan xx

Peter & Trevor, September 2012

Having travelled to many places around the world, I always seen myself getting married somewhere exotic.... then I came across the Yacht club and it managed to exceed my high expectations! This place had to be booked! From the time we first contacted their wedding co-ordinator, Claire Holland, until the time we walked down the aisle.. everything was so professionally and respectfully handled. We didnt want to feel like our civil partnership was second class to a wedding and we certainly didnt feel it for one minute here. Everything was organised through skype calls and emails with Claire Holland. Whatever we suggested, she investigated and always came up with the goods, sometimes suggesting going one better!

We attended the wedding fayre at the yacht club 4 months before our wedding and seeing it was even more special than we thought! There we met all the staff, Sergio, Luis, Silvia, Claire and all the restaurant and bar staff. trust me when I say that staff dont come much better than this crowd! Not only are they slick and professional at what they do, they are also highly personable and this makes all the difference! We managed over the ensuing months, to arrange the whole wedding from home. Through Claire, we arranged the taxi buses for both stags (santa ponsa and magaluff), a champagne breakfast on a yacht (spectacular on the morning!) for the top table, the music for ceremony and equipment hire etc, all the food and decorations, evening entertainment and local dance act. It was only conceivable with the help of Claire Holland.

my Partner and 9 guests from our top table had the champagne breakfast and then we chose to go sailing for an hour. It was an excellent way to break in the long day and definately makes you feel special! We all decided to get changed at the yacht club in one of the back rooms while our guests were arriving and all suits and dresses were looked after by the yacht club. Throughout the ceremony, Luis and Sergio conducted things very professionally and with the service held by Miguel, all our guests commented on how amazing the whole thing looked. Following the ceremony we had an acoustic session set up on the proa terrace while all guests were served with canapes and cocktails. The canapes are highly recommended as they are simply mouthwatering and really add a bit of class to the atmosphere! Sylvia and her staff were on hand no matter where you turned and there was more than enough food and drink going around to keep all guests occupied! The wedding room was co-ordinated by sylvia and her staff and even though we requested a different table arrangement, nothing was too much hassle and the room looked superb on the day! The meal was top class and everyone commented on the quality of it. We also asked the chef could he make us a croquembouche for the cake.... again no problem! During the meal, Sergio organised our roulette and blackjack tables. They were set up outside the room we were eating and it was a nice surprise for all the guests to break in the nights entertainment. The free bar for all guests was the talking point of the night! Superb service, and ensured the music and entertainment was well complimented! As the night grew long, we had a capoeira dance show on the outside terrace. If you are thinking of other entertainment, I highly recommend these! The acrobatics and dance moves are simply stunning! Before the DJ replaced the live band, the staff carried through the crowd, a gigantic platter of paella which we ordered for late night snack. Visually it was very effective and many hungry eyes followed the platter to its destination before tucking in!

From all our guests, 92 people, we are being told that it was the best wedding they've been to. The location and staff is 100% the reason for these comments. If you want the celebrity service for your wedding... visit the yacht club. You wont be disappointed!!

Check out their facebook page and you can see the photo's of all the weddings... and while your at it, drop an email to Claire... you wont regret it!!

From now on when I think Cala D'Or... I think yacht club!

Deanna & Dean - August 2012

We both want to say such a big thank you to everyone at the Yacht Club especially Claire, Sergio, Sylvia and David for such an amazing wedding day.

I have been coming to cala dor for my holidays since I was a little girl and have always loved the place. Myself and Dean have been coming at least once or twice a year for the past 4 years and have loved it more than any other place we have been to in the world.

When we decided we wanted to get married during 2010 we thought straight away we would loved to get married abroad, and cala dor was the first place we looked as we loved it so much. Straight away we saw the Yacht Club and our mind was set on there and we never looked at any other place.

We then got intouch with Claire, who is such a fantastic caring wedding co-ordinator and my parents flew out the next month and booked it.

Claire, well what can we say you made the last 2 years of planning our special day a delight and we want to thank you so much for that. Our day was planned over emails and phone calls And as you can tell by our photographs every last detail was amazing in every way. You are fantastic at your job Claire.

Sylvia and Sergio, what amazing and lovely people, nothing you ask for was too much trouble for them. They made us feel so welcome from the start until the very end. Even when our wedding day was over they still made us feel welcome. We want to thank you both for everything you did for us.

Sylvia- I took over my own flowers and table decorations and gave them to sylvia the day before the wedding as i had a picture in my head how I wanted the tables to look and Sylvia did just that the room looked outstanding and we want to personally thank you for that.

All 57 of our guests who came to our day said it was the most well organised beautiful wedding they had ever been too and it's to every single person that works at the yacht club we owe that too.

Our photographers Richard and Hannah (which was organised through Claire) Where absolutely fantastic in every way. They both captured every single special moment from start to finish and from the photos we have seen so far they are amazing. We would definatley reccomend them to anyone. During the photographs all the guests were served with canapés which were extordinary and definatley worth having and also we had a Spanish guitarist playing beautiful music, which was fantastic.

We just want to thank everyone again who played such a big part in our special day and we will remember this day forever. Don't forget you are all amazing at your roles you play to make everyone's day as special as our was.

Lots of love

Deanna & Dean Hudson

Sarah & Ash, August 2012

To a wonderful team at the Yacht Club.

We wanted to say a huge Thank you to everyone at the Yacht Club for making our wedding day truly amazing! It is more than 6 weeks since our wedding now and I don't think a day has gone by when we haven't talked about our special day because we really did have the best day of our lives! The staff at the club were fantastic (not forgetting Claire who was a star wedding planner throughout our organising), the food was delicious and the venue was stunning! We couldn't of wished for a better day! Our family and friends were full of compliments for the Yacht Club and we would all love to re-live the fantastic day we had over and over.

Thanks again everyone :) and we hope to see you soon,

Sarah & Ash

Vicky & David - July 2012

We had the most perfect wedding day at the yacht club. With all our guests blown away by the setting and surroundings as well. The staff were fantastic and the service was superb.

Our wedding day was everything we hoped for and more.

We can't wait to come back again next year for our anniversary.

Renate & Hakon - July 2012

We celebrated our marriage at the Yacht Club this summer. The planning went without any problems. The wedding co ordinator, Claire Holland, was really helpful and kind. The wedding day was wonderful in beautiful surroundings with great food. We will really like to reommend the Yacht Club to all of you who are thinking about getting married in beautiful Mallorca.

Thanks to all of the staff at the Yacht Club for making our day so fantastic and memorable.

Renate and Håkon, Norway

Colin & Susan - July 2012

We held our wedding reception at the Yacht Club in July and can honestly not speak highly enough about it. From the first moment we saw the yacht club we fell in love with the location and service offered. Having a UK wedding co-ordinator (Claire - all part of the package) is invaluable and her help was immeasurable. Sergio and Luis in Majorca were so helpful whilst visiting pre and during the wedding week. Nothing is left to chance and the organisation was fantastic. Service on the day simply made our day - to have 60 guests travel to Majorca meant their enjoyment was key to us - their comments reflected the perfect service that we experienced with a dedicated waiter on each table and wanting for nothing.

As we married at a catholic monastery Luis was on hand to assist in all paper work - again something that would not of been possible without his help. Food was of an extremely high standard and i simply can't praise the venue any further.

An easy choice if you want a relaxed, elegant and memorable location for your wedding.

Colin & Susan

Aimee & Carl - June 2012

My husband and I got married at the Yacht Club in June this year, which in itself is a breath taking venue with stunning views. Our special day was made so personal to us by the high standards of service and attention to detail from all the staff involved from our wedding co-ordinator Claire (based in the UK) to Sergio, Sylvia & louis at the club.

Along with our 71 guests we couldnt fault any part of the day and would recommened this venue without any hesitation.

Love Aimee & Carl x

Nicola & Ryan, June 2012

We had the most amazing wedding at the Yacht Club, everyone was so helpful. Sergio and his team were incredible and nothing was to much. The food was outstanding and all our guest's commented on how gorgeous it all was.

We had a fantastic view of the marina, and at night the Yacht Club was all lit up and magical. Just perfect for our special day.

We'll definitely be returning for our 1st year anniversary.

Nicola & Ryan

Charles & Claire, June 2012

Coming from the US, we initially had concerns about how to plan the details of our wedding from afar, without the benefit of being able to preview the kinds of things that one normally does ahead of time (such as food, flowers, etc.) There were lots of details to coordinate across an ocean, with a language barrier to potentially further complicate issues. Obviously, this presented us with a certain amount of trepidation when we first committed to a "Destination Wedding" in Mallorca.

However, from the very start, things could not have gone more smoothly. The Yacht Club's Wedding Coordinator, Claire Holland, was TERRIFIC! She basically handled just about everything for us: From all of the details of the reception, to contacting priests and helping us handle church-related paperwork, to all of the details at the church including a wonderful Spanish guitarist, to booking hotels and transfers for all of our guests. Claire had an enormous database of resources for everything and was very prompt about sending us extensive details about our options on everything from food to flowers to music to photography. Claire uses Skype a lot, so it was really helpful to be able to speak to her "face to face", and often! Even with the time difference between the US and Europe, Claire was readily available to talk to us. She was a pure delight to work with.

Once we arrived in Mallorca, the staff at the Yacht Club could not have been more accomodating. Besides Claire Holland, great thanks go to Sergio, Luis, Silvia and Pedro in particular. Last minute changes did not seem to be an issue as they were very flexible to 11th hour requests for a special meal for one guest, and changes in the music playlist for dancing. They really instilled a sense of confidence in us, exhibiting the utmost in professionalism.

The wedding ceremony was everything we could have wanted, and more. The Yacht Club arranged for a luxury van to transport our guests (with champagne) to and from the church. Claire's suggestion of a Spanish guitarist for music in the church set the traditional Spanish tone that we were looking for. The church was beautiful, and the priest (whom we literally met AT the church) ran things so smoothly you would have thought we had gone through numerous rehearsals (which clearly, we hadn't!)

Special mention should be given for the photographer recommended by Claire Holland. Richard, (www.weddingphotographymallorca.com) is possibly the most talented professional photographer I have ever seen. He met with us ahead of time to go through the types of photos and settings he recommended, and made sure he had a list of individuals that we wanted to be photographed with. He was unobtrusive, yet took some of the best pictures I could have imagined. He has a really creative eye for his profession. I would recommend him highly.

The reception was a dream. You could not ask for a more spectacular natural setting. Overlooking the marina, the Yacht Club itself is a beautiful, pristine, first-class facility. Cocktails and hor' douerves were served on the terrace near the infinity pool with the guitarist continuing to play. It was quite festive. As the sun set, the reception moved upstairs to the Cala Vista Terrace-- an unbelievably beautiful outdoors setting. The flowers on the tables were incredibly beautiful, and everything truly sparkled. We chose the traditional Spanish Fiesta package-- again, in our desire to really embrace the Spanish culture. Pedro and his staff actually cooked the paella tableside and it was a wonderful display, not to mention delicious. The Mallorcan wine was top quality, and continuously flowing. Music and dancing followed after dinner, with guests partying well into the early morning hours. We had the time of our lives, and could not have asked for a more perfect wedding, thanks to the top-notch staff from the Yacht Club!

Janet & Greg, October 2011

We discovered this venue at a wedding fair and Claire the Planner based in the UK was so professional and easy to get on with we decided to make the trip and visited the venue. We instantly signed up once we met the management and staff of the venue. The venue looks fantastic and we like what it had to offer.

The whole process was painless. Claire helped to contact our suppliers and recommended Florists, Cake suppliers, DJ equipment, even someone for the bouncy castle for the kids.

Sergio, the manager, was excellent throughout and so with Claire in England and Sergio in Majorca, the stress was taken out of the whole wedding experience.

The day? Well the day was absolutely superb!! Silvia and Luis went overboard to make our experience extra special. The food was fantastic. We had the Barbecue and they waited for the right time to start cooking and serving the food. Tasted fantastic. The waiting staff ensured that all our guests were fed and all the wine glasses and champagne flutes were replenished the moment they required. The staff treated our guests like family. Nothing was too much trouble. An example of their helpfulness was - A guest's camera ran out of battery power. Sylvia arranged for a local shop to send over a set of batteries to ensure that our guest would not miss too many photo ops.

She decorated the venue to our exact requirements and would not let us lift a finger except to place the name cards.

We partied until the wee hours. Everyone of our 80 guests commented the wonderful and friendly the service was and having had a wonderful day. We will all be certainly be recommending the yacht club on to friends and family.

Thank you. G & Jan

Gemma & Dave - July 2011

Myself and Dave would like to say a huge Thank you for making our special day so wonderful, from the moment we chose the Yacht Club for our wedding we didn't have to worry about a thing, you really did make it perfect, it was unique and flawless, just as we wanted.

Getting married in a different country and planning it mostly over email should have been daunting, but it wasn't at all. Thanks Claire.

The attention to detail shown by all of the team was second to none. Sergio and Luis made us feel so welcome at the Yacht Club from the moment we arrived, they couldn't do enough for us, giving us different desserts to try (all of which were delicious), to even clipping fresh flowers from the garden on the morning of the wedding to help decorate our tables!

Our wedding day was perfect, the weather was gorgeous and more importantly the WOW factor our guests got when they arrived made it for us.

Every one of our 50 guests commented on how beautiful the Yacht Club is, the location, the views over the marina, the food, the decoration, the staff...just perfect!! ( and not forgetting the games room for the children, that's all they have talked about since we got home!)

Richard, our photographer was fantastic, thanks for recommending him to us, the photos speak for themselves, lovely guy and brilliant and what he does.

Claire, Sergio, Luis, Silvia and the rest of the Yacht Club team really did make our Wedding day the most perfect day in every way possible, we can't thank you enough for everything you all did for us.

We will definitely be coming back to the Yacht Club for our anniversary next year, probably joined by most of our family as they all loved it as much as we did.

Hope to see you all again soon

Gemma and Dave Brocklehurst

Erica & Michael - July 2011

We got married here on the 15th July and to say the day was amazing doesn't do it justice, the venue, staff, food and service was better then i ever could have imaged. The staff were helpful and politle and all our guest commented on the high level of service. The food was breath taking and the service flowed nicely.

If i could go back and do it again i would but i would not change one thing!!!! trust me if you want a beautiful setting with a fantastic service in Majorca this is the place for you.

Thanks again Sergio, Claire and all the staff - see you soon.

Kerron & Kerry - June 2011

Having bought 86 people from the UK to see us get married we hoped and prayed that our day lived up to everybody's expectations. So what can we say !!!!!!! The Cala Dor Yatch Club over exceeded the expectations of ourselves and our guests.

There truly are no words good enough to put our fabulous day into perspective. We wouldn't like to mention names incase we missed somebody out because every member of staff went above and beyond there call of duty.

There was not a single thing we would change about our day, it was just perfect and the guests were all blown away by the whole experience. Alot of guests commented on how " we really have set the standard" and " This is the most amazing wedding I have ever been to ".

Getting married abroad would unsettle most people and the all the staff were very consensus of this and at all times presented ideas and suggestions that were to our advantage, they wanted your big day to be as special as we did, and nothing was to much trouble.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making our day so magical.

Claire feel free to share our link with our review xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx thank you so much for all your help xxx

Colin & Nicci - August 2010

We chose the Yacht Club because we fell in love with it the minute we walked through the door 12 months earlier.

It was without a doubt a truly magical experience. Everyone talks about organising weddings and how this can be a very stressful experience. We are living proof that this is not true. We loved all of the planning. We worked with Claire the wedding co-ordinator from day one and she made the whole thing easy and enjoyable - nothing was too much trouble. She treats your wedding as individual so it is unique, not like other venues when you fit your wedding into their package!

All the staff were wonderful and did everything we asked for and more, before, during and after the wedding. Thanks to them the whole day went without a hitch. The meal was faultless and the evening buffet was also excellent and plentiful. Our friends are still talking about "The wedding of the year"

Thank you, Colin & Nicci

Nadja & Richard - July 2010

To everyone at the Yacht Club

We would like to thank you for the wonderful reception that you gave us. Everything was perfect from the table settings and the food, down to the kind attention that your whole staff gave to us.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with everyone of you to make our day so very special – you even managed to book the weather for us!

We will definitely be recommending you to all our friends and family. We wish you all the best and hope that you are able to make many more couples as happy as you made us.

Nadja & Richard

Paula & Will Gough, October 2009

What can we say! We can't thank you and the whole team at the Club for giving us the best and most memorable wedding day! From the time we booked up till the big day, you were all so helpful and kind to us and our guests.

Everyone was blown away when they arrived at the Club just as we wanted them to be. They all said how delicious the food was and how attentive the staff were.

We would love to come back to the Yacht Club again one day soon - thanks so much for everything.

Paula & Will

New Cape Coral Yacht Club designs: Most on council like a coastal, Key West vibe

yacht club cala d'or

Given three different design options for the new Yacht Club Community Center , most of the Cape Coral City Council is leaning toward a coastal, Key West-flavor architecture.

At a committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday, the city sought direction from the council on a design direction for the outside of the community building.

"It's a concept, just like we do with anything else, and as we are designing, things may come up that we want to shift and be nimble (on)," said Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn.

James Pankonin with Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, presented the information about the look of the community building.

Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park, which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has been a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s but is set to undergo major renovations after Hurricane Ian delayed the original plans .

The current plans include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.

The city is also preparing for the demolition of the Yacht Club and its facilities in April as it awaits permits.

No estimates could be provided for the price of the new building.

"It will really come into how much of certain materials are needed and construction methods," Ilczyszyn said.

The city will have that information once they have 30% of the construction design.

Two public meetings for the designs are planned for April 2 and May 7.

After getting public input, the city will vote to amend its contract with Kimley Horn to approve all these changes.

The plan is to have these changes approved or introduced before the summer hiatus.

New Designs for the Yacht Club building

John Bryant with Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors, a Sarasota-based design firm, said the goal with the new designs was to maintain the experience of the original Yacht Club.

The majority of the council preferred option one.

Design one:

Bryant described the first option as "coastal vernacular" and similar to the park buildings at Lake Kennedy and Yellow Fever Creek.

"So it's sort of informed by the current architectural work in 2024," Bryant said. "Kinda Key West."

Councilmember Dan Sheppard and Mayor John Gunter preferred option one.

Gunter said the design was the most pleasing for him.

Councilmember Keith Long liked option one and said he liked the Key West aesthetic.

Councilmember Tom Hayden liked option one.

Design two:

Option two is more informed by the current Yacht Club and would have a stone base and mid-century feel to it, according to Bryant.

"There's certainly opportunity to kind of further develop this option to have even more of the existing Yacht Club feel, but a different vibe, feel than option one," Bryant said.

He also said option two might be more expressive the closer they try to recreate the aesthetic of the old ballroom building.

Councilmember Jessica Cosden liked design two as it incorporated design elements of the old building though she lamented how similar it looked to the first design.

"I wish we could have done more, but I know it's hard with a two-story building, to make it look the same as a very unique one-story building.

Councilmember Bill Steinke said two would be his choice as well, but was wary of additional maintenance of natural wood products used in the design.

"As long as we can bring that aesthetic and keep the maintenance down, number two would be my choice," Steinke said.

Councilmember Robert Welsh said he could go either way, but he liked the look of two.

Design three:

This would be more contemporary and modern.

"Even with a more contemporary language, you can still have warmth, incorporating some wood elements and stone elements," Bryant said.

None of the council members expressed any favorability for the third design.

Inside the new community center

The Community Center will have an additional 10,000 square feet for a total of 47,000 square feet, a history room to remember the first ballroom building on the first floor, and more rooms for civic and community use on the first floor.

Additionally, the new ballroom has shifted slightly as the balcony area on the second floor has been expanded to wrap around the top of the building.
