Topaz was technically launched mid May 2012 when she emerged from her floating shed at the Lürssen yard and conducted sea trials in August. Very little is known about the motor yacht although she is the third largest yacht to be launched by the German yard and also belongs to a member of the UAE elite, although she flies a Cayman flag.

A+ is a 147.25 m Motor Yacht, built in Germany by Lurssen and delivered in 2012.

Her top speed is 22.9 kn and her cruising speed is 19.5 kn and her power comes from four MTU diesel engines. She can accommodate up to 62 guests in 26 staterooms, with 79 crew members. She has a gross tonnage of 12532.0 GT and a 21.5 m beam.

She was designed by Tim Heywood , who has designed 61 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database.

The naval architecture was developed by Lurssen , who has architected 71 other superyachts in the BOAT Pro database, and the interior of the yacht was designed by Terence Disdale , who has 77 other superyacht interiors designed in the BOAT Pro database - she is built with a Teak deck, a Steel hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

A+ is the 9th longest yacht in the world. She is one of 70 motor yachts longer than 100m, and, compared to similarly sized motor yachts, her cruising speed is 3.59 kn above the average, her top speed 3.2 kn above the average, and her volume 5394.92 GT above the average.

A+ is currently sailing under the Cayman Islands flag, the 2nd most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 1408 yachts registered. Top 100 Lurssen Yacht Topaz Renamed A+

Currently the world’s seventh largest superyacht at a staggering 147.25m, and the 4th largest at her time of building, 2012 Lurssen launch Topaz has changed its name to A+ , prompting speculation that she has a new owner.

The German-built colossus ranks highly in the Top 100 listings, and boasts a star-studded team behind her build befitting of a yacht her size. She features a magnificent exterior from Terence Disdale and interiors crafted by the celebrated Tim Heywood Design. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the formidable yacht spent four years in construction at the Lurssen shipyard.

Like most Top 100 vessels owned by royalty, not much is known about the newly christened A+ other than her basic specifications. We know that she accommodates an incredible 62 guests and up to 79 crew members, and that she cruises at 19.5 with a maximum speed of 22 knots - an impressive rate for a boat of her size.

We also know that this eight-deck megayacht leads the world records in terms of volume, with a monumental gross tonnage of 12,532 GT. She was most recently spotted in Abu Dhabi, after a stay in the Lurssen  shipyard at the end of last year for a refit or maintenance work.

Despite speculation that this name change hints that the 147.25m has changed hands from Emirati royalty, deputy prime minister of the UAE and Manchester City Football Club owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahnan, there is no other indication of this. Topaz/A+ has never been listed for sale, and may have only been renamed at this moment in time.

A+ is in good company within the Lurssen ranks. The shipyard have made a name for themself in the construction of gigayachts, with 136m Flying Fox having recently entered the charter market , and 142m Redwood having been spotted at the yard prior to her delivery date. Watch this space for updates!

Topaz was designed by renowned Tim Heywood and built at Lurssen in Germany . She is at number four amongst the largest superyachts in the world and the second largest mega yacht constructed by Lurssen, following the 155-metre Al Said yacht , to date. This is to change soon however, as Lurssen is currently building their largest vessel ever, the 180m mega yacht AZZAM project , which will become the largest luxury yacht in the world once launched, taking over from Eclipse superyacht .

TOPAZ yacht features a full displacement steel hull coupled with a lighter aluminium superstructure. In addition, she has a helicopter landing platform, tender garages and swimming pools. She can presumably accommodated up to 12 guests in 6 luxurious cabins, although this is not confirmed as yet.

Meet mega yacht Topaz one of the greatest luxury kings of the oceans, with a length of over 482 feet, the Topaz is among the largest private luxury yachts in the world. It’s owned by billionaire Mansour bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan , Deputy Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and member of the Abu Dhabi royal family.

The stunning yacht excels not only for its monumental size but is also one of the most luxurious and comfortable we have seen (along with Azzam and Lady Moura ) It is equipped with a gym, swimming pool, two hot tubs, a conference room, movie theater and lift, as well as two heliports. Its interior was custom designed by Terence Disdale and the exterior by the renowned team of Tim Heywood Design. The skillful engineers from Lurssen Yachts shipyards in Bremen-Vegesack, Germany were responsible for the construction of this beautiful vessel.

The Topaz has a steel hull with aluminum superstructure and is powered by two Pelstick diesel engines that produce 7,990 hp each. Her cruising speed is 22.9 knots and the maximum speed is estimated to be around 25.5 knots. She also has special stabilizers to ensure comfort on board when the yacht is anchored, especially in rough water.

With a length of over 482 feet, the Topaz is among the largest private luxury yachts in the world .

Since a member of the royal family owns the yacht, its manufacturers and designers have not disclosed details of its interior. However, it is known that Disdale— responsible for the interior design— arranged and furnished it as a “beach house”, a design concept for luxury yachts that favors a relaxed and functional style and offers the experience of sailing without the excessively formal and severe environments of a family mansion.

Disdale placed the Jacuzzis in the aft deck next to the pool, which at night is illuminated with colored light beams through a system of underwater lighting. The eight decks are connected by a lift that provides access to the helicopter and swimming platforms, and to a fully equipped gym with the latest in sports technology.

The mega yacht is also equipped with auxiliary boats that can be reached from both sides of the ship, or through the stern, where there is a terrace and a large deck with stairs to provide access to the water as well as a variety of water toys stored in the hold: jet skis, inflatable boats, a small catamaran… and even a mini-submarine! The spectacular Topaz— with its futuristic styling and functional design— is also one of the most-expensive luxury super yachts: in 2012, its owner Sheikh Mansour paid $527 million for it.  ■

Learn About Leonard DiCaprio’s Yacht: Topaz

When you think about Leonardo DiCaprio, images of an eco-conscious crusader who is out to improve the health of the planet may first emerge. Recent rumors that Leo plans to attend the 2018 World Cup events in Brazil aboard a yacht seem a bit contradictory because of the pollution that these floating luxury hotels churn into the air and water.

While some have criticized him for indulging in a bit of heaven at the expense of the planet, if he wasn’t doing it, somebody else would be. At least he’s making an attempt to help the situation when he can. All of that aside, we were curious to find out more about Leonardo DiCaprio’s Yacht, and here is what we discovered.

Leo doesn’t own the yacht

DiCaprio hasn’t actually purchased a yacht. Instead, he rented it from owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mansour is a billionaire politician who is the current prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.

The mega yacht was custom built according to his grand and luxurious specifications and named the Topaz. Until recently, the interior of the yacht has remained a well-guarded secret. We’ve learned some juicy tidbits that we’re happy to share.

Specifications of the Topaz

The super yacht measures a total of 453 feet in length with a cost of more than $200 million in USD to build and an estimated value of $678 million. This isn’t the biggest yacht that Mr. DiCaprio has chartered, but it’s likely to be one of the most luxurious.

The yacht is powered by four M90 diesel engines which generate approximately 48,000 horse power. The ship made its maiden launch in 2012 and according to sources, DiCaprio also rented it in 2014 just 2 years into its service run.

The Topaz is rumored to be one of the most extravagant yachts in the world . It offers smooth sailing with the installation of zero speed stabilizers. It comes fully outfitted with lifts that ferry guests comfortably among the eight deck levels to the host of amenities that are scattered throughout the massive vessel.

It is decked out in full luxury and comfort with a cinema, two hot tubs, air conditioning throughout, three swimming pools, a fitness hall, underwater lights, an ample sized conference room and a well hidden interior design that is left up to our imaginations.

Leo won’t be making the trip alone. We’ve learned that he has a list of guests that will accompany him on thee yacht as he enjoys the football tournament in Brazil.

There were 21 of his friends, all of millionaire status mind you, invited to enjoy the amenities. It’s been reported that DiCaprio and his pals hopped a jet and flew to Rio de Janeiro to arrive one day prior to kick off of the Brazil World cup.

The controversy the rental has stirred

While some are happy that Leo had a nice luxury vacation , others are upset about the seeming nose thumb to environmentalists who think his actions are careless.

There has been a degree of judgment and sentiments of disappointment to outright damnation sent his way. Activists point out that Leo’s private jet that made thee 8000 mile trip left a hefty carbon footprint. This is besides the emissions put out from the luxury mega yacht. They’re citing his actions as not being environmentally responsible.

Why the uproar?

The backlash has come after the fact that DiCaprio made a plea to viewers to work with one another to help fight climate change when he accepted his first ever Oscar award. DiCaprio’s involvement in Hollywood environmentalism can’t be denied.

He dedicates time to fly here and there to pick up awards for his contributions to help clean up the environment, but when he flies to and fro, his carbon footprint grows.

There has been a volley of insults and comments disapproving of Leo’s actions, but isn’t this how Hollywood environmentalism works? It’s kinda tough to get to Brazil without flying or chartering a boat to take you there.

It’s a drama that has been ongoing since Leo’s plans were first revealed but it seems that he could at least score a few points for encouraging us all to make some kind of effort.

It’s not easy being the center of attention and there are times when best intentions draw a backlash of negativism, despite the fact that most of us rely on some type of carbon emitting transportation resources.

Leonardo DiCaprio Throws Private Party on Superyacht TOPAZ

Superyacht fan and A-List superstar Leonardo DiCaprio was one of a lucky few people in the world allowed to charter the 147m/482 TOPAZ in which he hosted a lavish party on board last month.

As reported on the New York Daily News website, the 80’s-themed party which is thought to have been held in New York in mid-April with around 100 guests welcomed aboard including actor’s Jamie Foxx and Orlando Bloom. 

A crew of more than 80 are said to have been on-hand to serve an undoubtedly impressive spread of fine food, champagne and cocktails whilst the VIP part-goers were entertained into the early hours. ‘Leo wore a velour pantsuit to the ’80s-themed party’, said one insider, adding that DiCaprio hired additional ‘deejays, decor, designers and extra security’ especially for the event.

The 2012-launched superyacht TOPAZ was built by Lürssen to a design by Tim Heywood and is currently ranked 5th amongst the largest superyachts in the world. A spectacular setting for any event, she has very occasionally been made available for rent by her UAE-based Owner to a hand-selected elite few but is not officially available on the global charter fleet.  

DiCaprio is no stranger to superyachts, having shot a number of scenes for ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ on board the 44m/144’ MY LADY M and is regularly seen enjoying time on board charter yachts during prestigious events such as the Cannes Film Festival .

The largest superyacht officially marketed for charter is SERENE , the 133m Italian motor yacht built by Fincantieri, she can accommodate 24 charter guests in her 12 sumptuous staterooms.  Charter rates are from €3,750,000 per week plus expenses.

Tampa Bay is eastward, along with its many protected harbors, bayous, marinas and natural anchorages. Additionally, the area features over 200 miles of deep-water residential canals ideal for sightseeing the gorgeous estates that line the waterfront. And there are hundreds of miles of clear, shallow waters for nature tours by kayak, including the marked “trails” through the mangrove forests of Caladesi Island State Park near Dunedin, and Weedon Island Preserve near St Petersburg.

Just completed this summer, the new St Petersburg Pier now extends one-quarter mile into Tampa Bay and has been transformed into a 26-acre attraction designed to appeal to pedestrians of all ages, and especially the younger demographic that has increased in the Sun Coast area. The Pier with its green spaces, spa beach, and outdoor Marketplace of independent vendors, is a great place to stroll, bike, dine, drink, shop, swim, enjoy a concert and simply celebrate life with family and friends in a beautiful outdoor setting. Features of the new Pier include a playground, Tampa Bay Watch Discovery Center (ecosystem education for all ages), restaurants, shops, St Petersburg Museum of History, and of course, the Fishing Deck at The Point.

The St Petersburg Municipal Marina is an easy walk from the Pier and located in the heart of the downtown waterfront area with its lovely Mediterranean-style architecture, world-class hotels and the Sundial St Pete (formerly Baywalk) shopping, dining and entertainment complex that opened in May 2014. The marina has 640 permanent wet slips ranging in size from 28’ to 100,’ a 500’ transient dock with minimum 10’ depth throughout, fuel, facilities, marina store, and a mooring field.

Another attraction of the downtown area is the Salvador Dali Museum, displaying the largest collection of Dali’s work outside of Europe. The Museum houses a permanent collection of paintings, photos, drawings, book illustrations and sculptured objects in the surreal modern art style that made Dali one of the most celebrated artists of all time. The Museum will be re-opening on Oct. 28, 2020.

Maximo Marina, located in St. Petersburg’s Skyway District, welcomes transients and guests to its 212 slips with 4 megayacht berths (max. 110’ length x 8’ draft x 23’ beam). It features a service yard with a 50-ton travel lift, fuel dock, provisioning, pump-out service, business services and much more. The Skyway District has shopping, restaurants, entertainment, nearby theme parks and other activities. Lighthouse Point Marina, located in the center of Pinellas County is surrounded by restaurants and major retailers (Target, Boaters World, Thunder Marine) and is only 10 minutes from John’s Pass and the Gulf of Mexico. The Marine has 69 wet slips for up to 50’ vessels, offers monthly contracts and has service technicians available.

Bay Pines Marina is located 2.5 miles from Johns Pass and minutes from the Gulf of Mexico. A designated “Clean Marina,” Bay Pines, is safely positioned in a natural bayou anchorage out of the wave action of the GICW. It features 60 wet slips to 40’ length, 600’ of dock space, fuel, bait, ice, full boat service and a Tiki Hut. The yard also has forklifts and dockside wall lifts.

Boaters can take advantage of some favorite waterfront restaurants that offer dock and dine facilities. Here is a brief overview of a few notable waterfront restaurants in the Pinellas County area. The Getaway Tampa Bay, is a tiki bar and marina destination, located on Tampa Bay. The marina has deep water access allowing boats of all sizes to boat up and enjoy live music, drinks and a great view of Weedon Island Preserve. Food can be ordered from the several food trucks that stop by each day.

Caddy’s on the Beach (Indian Shores/Sunset Beach, FL) offers BBQ and fresh seafood. Anchor off the beach and wade in to enjoy signature tropical drinks while watching awesome sunsets from beach lounge chairs. Also located in Indian Shores, is the Salt Rock Grill, a more upscale restaurant with excellent food and outdoor bar. The dock located in back, is accessible from the GICW. Sea Hags Bar & Grill in St Petersburg Beach offers casual island indoor/outdoor dining on the marina waterfront in charming “Old Florida” style. Blind Pass Marina is on the north end of St Petersburg Beach and has plenty of space for transients; pull in and check with the dockmaster for a slip. Sea Hags is known for excellent food and service. Gators Café & Saloon is a waterfront sports bar in nearby Treasure Island, with plenty of dockage and offers a variety of food and beverages. Billy’s Stonecrab, Seafood & Steak in Tierra Verda, serves award-winning seafood and steak. Billy’s Stonecrab, established in 1972, was built using native cypress and pine and offers a spectacular view of the natural harbor, Hurricane Hole. Known for great aged prime beef as well as stone crabs.
