The 5 largest yachts at Yachts Miami Beach

A big weekend for boating shows in Miami

We’re approaching an action-packed weekend for winter events in South Florida, with the Miami Beat Show (at Virginia Key), Yachts Miami Beach (Mid-Beach and Watson Island), and the Coconut Grove Arts Festival (Bayshore Drive) being held simultaneously.

With the 29th Annual Yachts Miami Beach, a slew of imposing superyachts have been swarming Miami marinas of late, including the 236-foot Axioma , which has been in town for at least a month now and has a history of hosting Celebrity clientele, including members of the Kardashian clan.

Axioma will be the largest superyacht at Yachts Miami Beach , which takes place from Thursday through the weekend on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach, across from the Eden Roc and Fontainebleau hotels.

Let us introduce the five largest superyachts at this year’s event, led by Axioma. All are currently docked at the Island Gardens Deep Harbour on Watson Island, just off the McArthur Causeway en route to Miami Beach.

This giant vessel features a movie theater, fitness center, steam and sauna, and was the backdrop for the most liked Instagram photo of 2015, which was boosted by a Kardashian.

2. Martha Ann

3. Double Down

Length : 213 feet

Price : $46.55 million

Owned by Burger-Fi founder John Rosatti , we’ve spotted the magnificent vessel on Fisher Island in the past.

Meet Victorious, the Largest Yacht in Miami

If you’re in Miami, you may want to take a look at Victorious , at 278 feet and 11 inches long the largest boat in the boat show there. It’s over at the superyacht show on Watson Island, where tickets go for $135, but it takes up so much waterfront you can see it easily from Miami.

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it, but Victorious is for sale for $129 million. (It’s been on the charter market for $950,000 a week.)

Even as one of the world’s largest superyacht, Victorious is a bit over the top. It has a helipad on the foredeck that doubles as a dance floor, three swimming pools, an owner’s suite on the bridge deck with its own Jacuzzi and sun lounges, a gym, wellness center, wine cellar, two wood-burning fireplaces, a beauty salon, several bars, a beach club, and a small armada of tenders that includes a custom 41-foot aluminum cat and a 38-foot Fountain.

The accommodations include room for 24 guests in 12 staterooms, but the best room in the house seems to be the sky lounge up top, an observation lounge with wraparound views, a baby grand piano, a formal dining room and a smaller lounge with a bar.

All this is powered by twin 1,475-hp Cats, delivering a top speed of 17 knots. The yacht has an amazing range of 14,000 nm at 13 knots (fuel capacity: 69,847 gallons).

And Victorious comes with an unusual back story. It started out at Marco Yachts in Chile under the name Gin Tonic II , but the owner ran out of money. Graeme Hunt bought it unfinished and had it towed to New Zealand. Then Vural Ak, a Turkish entrepreneur who owns the racetrack for the Turkish Formula 1 Grand Prix, bought it half completed from Hunt in 2016 and had it towed to Turkey. The Turkish yard Akyacht finally launched it in 2021; it won the prize for Motor Yacht Over 80 Meters at The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022.

Elevated interest rates, economic uncertainty, and a cooling boating market don’t appear to be lessening the appeal of the Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show, which kicks-off its five-day run on Wednesday.

With six venues spread across downtown Miami and Miami Beach and an expected crowd of over 100,000 forecasted to attend through the Presidents’ Day holiday weekend, the first major U.S. show this year could be a banner event. “It’s the world’s largest boat and yacht show, offering everything from kayaks to superyachts, plus the latest equipment,” says Andrew Doole, president of Informa’s U.S. Boat Shows division. The stats back him up: There will be more than 1,000 boats from kayaks to superyachts on display, with more than 1,000 exhibitors.

The show will have a VIP program called Windward that provides access to lounges and transportation between the event’s six locations. The exclusive offering will also give access to Superyacht Miami and Art Wynwood.

Here are 10 boats, from global debuts to recently launched brokerage superyachts, that will define this year’s event.

AK Yachts ‘Victorious’

The star of this year’s Miami show? That title will likely go to the 278-foot globe-trotting explorer Victorious from the Turkish yard, AKYacht. Taking up much of the dock space at the Yacht Haven Grande superyacht display, Victorious is coming to MIBS looking for a buyer. Asking price? A cool $129 million. This recipient of a 2022 Robb Report “Best of the Best” award is owned by Turkish entrepreneur Vural Ak, who bought the half-completed superyacht in 2016 from New Zealand billionaire Graeme Hunt and had it towed back to Turkey for completion. With an interior design by Britain’s H2 Yacht Design, Victorious offers sumptuous accommodation for 24 guests across 12 staterooms. It also comes with such luxuries as a massive wellness center with a beauty salon and steam room, a wine cellar, a cinema, two wood-burning fireplaces, and a well-designed playroom for kids. The range of 14,000 nautical miles at 13 knots shows that this vessel can go the distance.

Azimut Magellano 30M

Azimut’s new Magellano 30 Metri splashed way back in January 2022. The flagship of its popular explorer series was originally scheduled to debut at last September’s Cannes boat show, which never happened. It’s finally making its “world premiere” at Miami. This new 98-foot 30M looks fresh, with a striking exterior by naval architect Ken Freivokh and glass-rich interior by Vincenzo De Cotiis. With its trademark wood slats by the stern cockpit and towering hull sides, the yacht is instantly recognizable as being from the Magellano series. The Miami showboat is the first in the U.S. and is currently listed for sale at $12.75 million. It’s said to have over $3 million in options, including upgraded MAN 1900 diesels.

Benetti ‘Grateful’

Less than a year old, the 112-foot Benetti Grateful  will offer some lucky buyer the opportunity to skip the waiting list and take delivery of what is essentially a brand-new boat, in time for summer cruising in the Hamptons. Another bonus: the asking price of $15.9 million is reckoned to be well below the replacement cost. With an exterior design by Britain’s RWD studios, this Benetti 34M Oasis boasts one of the best beach clubs of any sub-120-foot superyacht, courtesy of fold-down terraces on each side, a glass-sided plunge pool overlooking the hydraulic swim platform, and even a cocktail bar. Add to this a contemporary interior in 50 shades of gray and beige by New York architectural firm Bonetti/Kozerki. Grateful ‘s twin 1,380 hp MTU diesels give her a 16-knot top speed and, at 10 knots, the range is 2,700 nautical miles.

Itama 62 RS

If ever a boat was designed for the fast-living, look-at-me Miami boating lifestyle, it’s the Italian-built Itama 62RS . Launched back in 2011 with a wave-cleaving, deep-vee hull that dates back to Itama’s classic FiftyFive model from the mid-2000s, this classically styled 62-footer got a full makeover back two years ago. Now it’s being displayed for the first time in the U.S. at Miami. Looking like some classic 80s rocketship from Miami’s fabled Thunderboat Row, it has an impressively long foredeck, a wraparound windshield, and impressive power and performance. How impressive? With twin MAN V12 turbo diesels cranking out 1,400 hp each, the yacht has a top speed well over 40 knots. The cockpit can hold a crowd of up to 14, with three en suite cabins below deck accommodating up to six.

Formula 457 Center Console Sport

Formula Boats’s popular 387 Center Console Sport is getting a new big brother. Being unveiled at MIBS is the all-new 457 Center Console Sport, which becomes the second-largest boat in the Formula line-up, behind the 500 Super Sport Crossover flagship. Part dayboat and part fishing machine, this new 45-footer comes with Formula’s proven FAS3TECH deep-vee hull and elongated hardtop with an opening windshield and air-conditioning, plus two rows of bolstered sports seats. Up front there’s plenty of seating, while a port-side door in the console leads down to a comfy cabin with a small galley, a head compartment, and a forward double bed. In keeping with Formula’s go-fast heritage, this new 457 comes with triple Mercury Verado 600 V12s. And next summer Formula is unveiling the 457 Center Console Fish version with an upper helm.

Riva 82 Diva

The unveiling of a new Riva makes for a red-letter day at any boat show. And while the Italian yard’s latest 82 Diva flybridge had its premiere at last year’s Cannes show, it’ll be one of the showstoppers at Miami where it will be making its U.S. debut. This sleek, high-sided 82-foot beauty, from the drawing board of Officina Italiana Design, is distinguished by that unmistakable, swept-up hull feature line, a raked-back windshield, and a spacious flybridge. It also features a first for Riva: a beach club with fold-down bulwark terraces on each side. And when you have Piero Ferrari, son of Enzo, overseeing the design and engineering team, you know it will be fast. Powered by twin 1,900 hp MAN V12 turbo diesels, the Diva boasts a top speed of 31 knots. 

Chris-Craft Launch 27, 150th Anniversary Edition

Happy 150th to all Chris-Craft owners. In 1874, Christopher Columbus Smith started building wooden skiffs and inboard boats in Algonac, Michigan. To mark this auspicious milestone, the manufacturer—now based in Sarasota, Fla.—is unveiling a Sesquicentennial version of its iconic Launch 27 sports bowrider. There aren’t too many dramatic changes: The silver-gray hull gets an aquamarine boot stripe that was one of the builder’s signature colors in the early years. The hand-stitched, embossed leather cover on the steering wheel has a special 150th Anniversary cap and a Chris-Craft 150 welcome page on the chart-plotter. There is also an aquamarine-edged 150th burgee on the flagpole. It’s fitting that the classic Launch 27 was chosen to celebrate the 150 years of the brand since it was the first model in the current Chris-Craft’s lineup.

Boston Whaler 365 Conquest

More than a few Boston Whaler devotees were upset when the much-loved 345 Conquest fishing machine quietly slipped out of production last year after a long, nine-year run. Thankfully their disappointment should be short-lived because the Miami show sees the unveiling of the 345’s spiritual successor, the all-new 365 Conquest. Loosely based on the larger, flagship 405 Conquest, the newcomer sees the 405’s quartet of Mercury Verado 400s replaced with triple 400 V10s. And while the 365 shares hull and superstructure design cues with the 405, the hardtop gets a new curvier windshield and increased glass in the pilothouse, plus a new upper helm station. The Edgewater, Florida-based division of Brunswick Corporation nicknames its new 365 Conquest the “SUV of the sea” courtesy of its unsinkable hull design, offshore capabilities, and “transformer” cabin, where the dining area transitions to sleeping quarters at the touch of a button.

Tiara EX 54

The slogan for Tiara Yachts’s brand-new EX 54 cruiser, making its Miami debut, could be: “Honey, we shrunk the EX 60 .” Looking very much like a scaled-down version of its flagship 60, the 54-footer has inherited nearly all the best features of its larger brother. They include twin fold-down terraces on the cockpit with built-in doors, a side helm door, sliding glass rear windows with a drop-down section, and a large entertaining area in the bow. Of course, with six less feet to work with, the smaller aft cockpit has less lounging space. The Volvo IPS 950s diesels are also a step down in horsepower from the 60’s twin Volvo IPS 1050s or optional 1350s. Below-decks, the master is a tad smaller and bunk beds instead of twins define the guest cabin. Otherwise, the family resemblance remains intact.

Lazzara Yachts ‘Lanida’

Just gazing at this 92-foot, Florida-built Lazzara 92 LSX and you can almost hear that iconic Jan Hammer soundtrack to Miami Vice. Built in 2010, it’s fresh out of a major refit managed by Lazzara as well as the original crew that’s still with this go-fast superyacht. Named Lanida, which roughly translates to “free spirit,” the yacht has never been chartered and only lightly used. Now it’s on sale, with a $2.95 million asking price. What sets the yacht apart, in addition to that dramatic styling and silver metallic paint, is its impressive power. Squeezed tight into its engine room are four Volvo IPS 900, packing around 780 hp apiece. The combined 3,120 hp is enough to punch the LSX to a top speed of over 31 knots.

Marine, marina, harbor, yacht club, port — not exactly synonyms, but close. A marina provides safe dockage for vessels of all sizes, often offering supplies, repair, and other facilities to those who rent a slip. A quick (but unreliable) Google search told us that there at about 12,000 marinas in the United States.

Whether that’s true or not, that’s a lot to sift through. But we did it — we found the top 10 superyacht marinas in the U.S.

1. Yacht Haven Grande | Miami, Florida

“Welcome to Miami” is the vibe when you step off the yacht and into Yacht Haven Grande by Island Gardens. This marina is nothing short of flash and accommodates some of the largest superyachts in the world. 

This Miami marina was specifically designed to host mega yachts reaching 500+ feet in length, plus accommodation for smaller tenders. Onsite amenities include a luxury lounge, conference room, mail and package delivery, concierge service, BBQ area for crew, and water taxi to select Miami waterfronts. Yacht Haven Grande is a true marina destination, and one of the finest in the world.

2. Gurney’s Star Island Marina | Montauk, New York

All the way at the End of the World (as Montauk, NY is so often referred to), is Gurney’s Star Island Marina . It’s part of a larger resort and therefore offers plenty of amenities for boat owners who book a slip. Despite a sense of exclusivity, Gurney’s Star Island Marina does not require a membership. 

The marina can accommodate yachts up to 220 feet with a maximum draft of 12 feet. Luxury and opulence take a concrete form when discussing the world’s largest yachts. With helipads, spas, onboard swimming pools, cinemas, and more, the world’s largest yachts can easily outshine your glamorous five-star hotels. But all of these yachts are more than just an emblem of wealth; these vessels are feats in expert engineering and design. Only a select few shipyards, designers, and naval architects worldwide can take up the challenge of this magnitude.

Now that we are here let’s look at some of the largest yachts of 2024. Even though the largest yacht is more accurately determined by its displacement and volume, today, we will be looking at the top ten largest vessels by length.

10. El Mahrousa We start the list with a name that has been here for more than a century. Launched in 1865, the Samuda Brothers originally built this 145.72 meter-long yacht for Khedive Ismail, the Ottoman governor of Egypt. The name El Mahrousa roughly translates to “The Protected,” but she was also briefly called El Horreya (translated to the word “Freedom”). Her external features were designed by renowned British naval architect Sir Oliver Lang who had previously created some of the finest British navy ships in the 19th century. This Egyptian presidential yacht has a rich history and has undergone several refurbishments. It is one of the oldest active superyachts and is tended for by the Egyptian navy. She rarely leaves her home berth in Alexandria apart from special occasions two to three times each year. Regarding her specs, her top speed is 16 knots, and her cruising speed is around 10 knots. She obtains her power from three Parsons steam turbine engines, a gross tonnage of 4560.0 GT, and a 12.98 m beam. This vessel was also the first ship ever to cross the Suez Canal back in 1869 and has now been transformed into a naval training ship for the Egyptian government. 9. A+ Formerly known as Topaz, A+ was launched by Lürssen in 2012, a titan in the yacht building industry at an incredible 147.25 meters in length. This yacht belongs to Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed al Nahyan, Emirati royalty, deputy prime minister of the UAE, and the Manchester City Football Club owner. She has some of the most exquisite Disdale exterior designs and magnificent interiors crafted by the famed Tim Heywood Design. She can also accommodate up to 62 guests and 79 crew members in her spacious interiors. It is also reported that A+ took about four years and more than £400 million to be built. Her top speed is 22.9 knots, and she has a cruising speed of 19.5 knots, which is impressive considering her size. Her power comes from four MTU diesel engines with a gross tonnage of 12500.0 GT and a 21.5 m beam. Like most yachts owned by royals, not much is disclosed to the public apart from the primary features, but this yacht has earned its spot on the top ten list. 8. Al Said Another mega yacht from the Lürssen yard, Al Said, is a 155-meter motor yacht launched in 2008. Her stylish exterior was designed by Espen Øino International, while Redman Whitely Dixon crafted her magnificent interior. Formerly codenamed “Project Sunflower,” this work of art belongs to one of the richest men in the world, Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said of Oman, and was created as a replacement for a smaller mega yacht with the same name. This yacht also has a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure with a 5.20-meter draft and a beam of 24 meters. With the help of 2 MTU engines, she achieves a cruising speed of 22 knots and obtains a top speed of 25 knots. Even though not much is revealed regarding the yacht’s interior, she is known to accommodate up to 70 guests and 154 professional crew members. She features a concert room that can easily accommodate a 50-piece orchestra. 7. Dilbar Dilbar may not rank number one in length, but it is the largest by interior volume and gross tonnage. Formerly known as “Project Omar,” this yacht with a length of 156 meters was launched in 2016 from the yards of German builder Lurssen. This yacht obtained its name from Uzbekistan-born billionaire Alisher Usmanov’s late mother. Espen Øino International designed the yacht’s exterior, while her interior was developed by the Winch Design team, known for using rare and exclusive luxury materials. This yacht has also been dubbed one of the most intricate and challenging yachts ever built, both in terms of dimensions and technology. She has a steel hull and aluminum superstructure, can attain a top speed of approximately 22.5 knots and has features never seen before on a yacht. Some include a 25-meter swimming pool that retains an astonishing 180 m³ of water, an expansive garden, and two helipads. She also can accommodate up to 24 guests and a whopping 100 crew members. 6. Dubai Originally commissioned by Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, this boat sits comfortably on the top ten largest yachts. This ambitious project took more than ten years to launch. Even though this yacht was launched by Platinum Yachts, it was initially a joint project between Blohm + Voss and Lurssen shipyards but was abandoned in 1998. The vessel now belongs to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai. This yacht has exceptional interiors, from bold colors and fine linen to intricate and detailed mosaic work. The showstopper of the entire yacht is the dramatic circular staircase that features glass stairs and changes colors. She also has a striking mosaic swimming pool, seven decks and multiple jacuzzis, discos, a submarine, and a helipad that accommodates 9.5 tonnes. This 162-meter yacht developed by Andrew Winch of Winch Design is powered by four MTU-20V diesel and has a speed of 25 knots, and has a displacement of 9,150 tonnes. 5. Eclipse Manufactured at the Blohm + Voss Hamburg shipyard in Germany, Eclipse made a splash in 2010. The construction of this 162.5-meter superyacht had been kept under wraps, increasing the excitement and speculations from international media and yacht enthusiasts alike. Created for Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, this yacht can accommodate 36 guests in 18 cabins and cater to 70 crew members. Although many details are still unknown regarding this yacht, we know that her exterior and interior features were developed by the London team at Terence Disdale Design. She is also filled with luxurious amenities, such as the two swimming pools, one of which is 16 meters long and with a feature of adjustable depth, allowing it to transform into a dance floor. It also includes an exterior fireplace, the ability to carry up to three helicopters, and more. With four MTU diesel engines, she has a top speed of 25 knots and an approximate cruising speed of 22 knots. 4. Fulk Al Salamah Custom created by Italian builder Mariotti Yachts in their Genoa shipyard, this 164-meter-long superyacht debuted in 2016. The Fulk Al Salmah remains shrouded in mystery as there is barely any information apart from the essential details. Owned by the Omani Royal family, this ship’s exterior was crafted by the renowned Studio de Jorio. She has a steel hull with a steel/aluminum superstructure and a deck made out of aluminum & teak. 3. Azzam Azzam has been one of the largest privately-owned superyachts since 2013. At an incredible length of 180.6 meters when Lurssen first introduced it, it creator of some of the largest luxury yachts in history. Under the guidance of engineer Mubarak Saad al Ahbabi, a world-class team worked on developing this magnificent project. The goal was to build a luxurious, large yacht that exuded the aura of timeless elegance and innovation. It should also be able to travel at full speed in warm and shallow waters without altering guests’ experience. Despite her size, she has an unprecedented top speed of around 31.5 knots because of the gas turbine engines that work at 94,000 horsepower. She was also built in merely three years, adding to the record of one of the quickest-built mega yachts. The yacht’s exterior design is a work of Nauta Design, while Christophe Leoni expertly designed the interiors. Azzam belongs to the Sheikh of the United Arab Emirates. Although many details remain under wraps, this superyacht is a milestone in yachting history. 2. REV This yacht will soon become one of the largest yachts in history, beating the previous holder of the number one position by merely two meters, standing at 182 meters. This yacht collaborates with Espen Øino and REV Ocean (Research Expedition Vessel), a not-for-profit organization established by Norwegian billionaire Kjell Inge Rokke. She was created keeping in mind the highest standards for fuel efficiency, pollution, and environmental impact. She is presently under construction at the Norwegian shipyard VARD and is scheduled for delivery in 2024. This yacht is no ordinary yacht as with a heat recovery system, sound and vibration reduction, diesel-electric engines, high tech incinerators, and a ballast water treatment system, this vessel plans on complying with IMO Polar Code, which requires a vessel to operate for 114 days in Arctic and Antarctic Condition autonomously. She is also powered by ultra-quiet hybrid propulsion and will have a top speed of 17 knots and an exceptional 21,120 nautical mile range. Although there has been much debate regarding classifying it as a superyacht, its initial purpose is to study the ocean. It is also available for charter for recreational purposes as it has space for 28 guests in its 18 cabins. 1. Somnio Seizing the number one spot is the world’s first ‘yacht-liner.’ Even though it will be launched in mid-2024, there is much excitement in the superyacht community. When launched, she will become one of the world’s largest superyachts, measuring an astounding 222m. Somnio is technically a combination of a superyacht, cruise ship, and residential home and is referred to as a ‘yacht liner. This vessel is to have 30 luxury private residences, all of which are invite-only, and the reported price of apartments reportedly costs at least $11.2 million. Scheduled to be delivered by Vard Søviknes in Norway, she is a part of Italy’s world-renowned Fincantieri Group. Even though we do not have much information, it is known that the exterior was solely created by Winch Design, whereas both Winch and Tillberg developed the interior.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – With ports along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, Florida is a top cruise destination. On Thursday, a new ship was homeported at Port Canaveral, and it’s another Royal Caribbean behemoth.

Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas will offer 3-night weekend and 4-night weekday cruises. The vessel can hold 5,668 passengers and has 18 total decks, The cruise ship is the first of its kind to debut three-night weekend and four-night getaways to CocoCay. The ship includes a 10-story dry slide, waterslides, rock-climbing walls, over 40 dining options and two casinos.

While impressive in size, it’s second to Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas, which is the world’s largest cruise ship.

The Icon of the Seas had its maiden voyage out of Miami in January 2024. As Jalopnik put it, it’s the size of five Titanics . A striking feature is its upper deck, where there’s a different pool option for every day of the week. There’s also Category 6 — the ship’s 17,000-square-foot water park, currently the largest at sea.

Below is a breakdown of how the two vessels compare in size.

The Icon of the Seas is part of Royal Caribbean’s Icon Class, while Utopia is in the Oasis. Port Canaveral is also home to the third-largest ship, Wonder of the Seas .

'Million Dollar Listing' Fredrik Eklund moves family to South Florida from California

Former reality-TV star Fredrik Eklund from the “Million Dollar Listing” series has burgeoning West Palm Beach on his “vision board” for projects he’d like to represent and already has an office of his powerhouse Eklund Gomes team in Jupiter.

Eklund, whose life was chronicled by the Emmy-nominated Bravo TV franchise for 11 years first in New York and then Los Angeles, moved to Miami in the summer of 2023 after new construction in Golden State metro areas began to stagnate, he said.

Known for his signature high-kick and exuberant cry of “weeeeee,” the 6-foot, 5-inch native of Sweden, put his Beverly Hills home on the market in December.

'Million Dollar Listing' Fredrik Eklund on moving to Miami: 'I do new development ... and there's a lot of that in South Florida'

“What I particularly do is new development and new buildings, and there is a lot of that here in South Florida,” said Eklund, who co-founded Douglas Elliman's Eklund Gomes Team with John Gomes, which opened a Miami office about five years ago. “In LA, there just wasn’t a lot of new construction.”

The Eklund Gomes Jupiter office at the Jupiter Yacht Club launched shortly before the pandemic. A planned splashy entrance to the Palm Beach County real estate market was overshadowed by Covid-19, but marketing was renewed last year with Eklund throwing out the first pitch at a spring training game between the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.

Two additional reality TV Realtors have staked claims in Palm Beach County: Ryan Serhant and Mauricio Umansky

Ryan Serhant, who co-starred with Eklund in the New York series, opened an office of his firm Serhant. in Delray Beach last year. Mauricio Umansky, known for his marriage to Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards, opened an office of his firm, The Agency, in Palm Beach. Umansky also has his own reality TV show on Netflix called “Buying Beverly Hills.”

“Because West Palm Beach and Palm Beach has so much happening now in the condominium space, that’s on my vision board,” Eklund said. “Those buyers are really from the markets that we operate in.”

Population estimates released this month by the Census Bureau point to why South Florida may be attracting high-profile celebrity Realtors following a pandemic-triggered exodus that saw people leave urban and higher-tax areas with a new freedom to work from anywhere.

The tri-county area of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade saw the 10 th highest population gain of metro areas nationwide between April 2020 and July 2023, adding about 44,000 people.

That overall gain included a loss of about 8,800 residents in Miami-Dade County while Palm Beach County grew by 39,520. Statewide, Florida’s population increased by more than 1 million people between 2020 and 2023.

During the same time period, California lost an estimated 538,000 residents with some counties gaining residents, such as Riverside County’s 69,500-person increase, and others losing big. Those included Los Angeles County, which was down 329,468 residents. Orange County lost nearly 50,000 people, and San Francisco saw 61,530 people leave.

New York also saw an overall exodus of about 533,500 people statewide. The counties with the biggest losses were Kings, Queens, and New York.

“I think Miami is always going to be a hot market because when people think of South Florida from outside the country, they think of Miami, but Palm Beach County has opportunities to grow, and that’s really what sets us apart,” said Tracy Ward, a broker associate in the Jupiter office of Eklund Gomes.

Eklund Gomes co-founder John Gomes said new transplants to Palm Beach County have a different way of living than the “old guard.” They may want more space for families, and turnkey residences with modern aesthetics and conveniences.

Gomes said he is working with a family living in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood that wants to move to Delray Beach.

“They want to be in a very specific area and have an idea of the schools and they love South Florida,” Gomes said.

Ward said she watched Million Dollar Listing before joining the Eklund Gomes team, and subscribed to its newsletter. After corresponding for a little while, she told Eklund that he was missing opportunities in Palm Beach County.

"Right there and then we connected," said Ward, adding that Eklund has proven himself in real estate regardless of his stint in reality television. “He is a very strong negotiator, as is everybody on this team. It’s not just ‘Hey, look at me, I’m fabulous.’ It’s a tough business, it’s very cutthroat.”

Eklund announced in 2022 he was leaving Million Dollar Listing after 11 years on the program in New York and Los Angeles.

Last year, the Eklund Gomes Team had $3.77 billion in total transactions from agents in New York, California, Texas and Florida.

Eklund said he wants to work on iconic projects that make a statement in the community.

South Florida developer Sergio Pino dead amid FBI investigation

Prominent Miami-Dade homebuilder Sergio Pino was found dead at his home amid an FBI investigation on Tuesday, authorities confirmed.

The FBI was conducting a search and arrest operation at Pino's $8 million Coral Gables home at 142 Isla Dorada Blvd.

"Upon arrival, members of the FBI Miami SWAT team attempted to call out any occupants of the residence. When there was no response, the SWAT team entered the residence and conducted a methodical search to locate the subject. Ultimately, Mr. Pino was discovered alone in an upstairs bedroom," the FBI said in a statement.

That's where Pino was found to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the agency said.

Authorities lifted a large black tarp to obscure the body, which was moved on a stretcher from the home directly to the medical examiner's van.

"The ultimate determination of cause of death will come from the medical examiner’s office," the FBI said.

The investigation was connected to an ongoing murder-for-hire investigation stemming from the fall of 2023, according to authorities. Though the FBI did not provide further details, on Aug. 30, 2023, Tatiana Pino was the victim of a hit-and-run outside her home in Pinecrest as she returned from a hearing in her divorce case, and it is one of the criminal investigations swirling around their separation.

The FBI was also carrying out another operation on Tuesday at 9720 Bel Aire Drive in Miami. There, the FBI said "the subject was arrested without incident and a search of that location was conducted."

No more information was immediately provided.

Sergio and Tatiana Pino were married for 32 years. Allegations – involving claims of poisoning, arson, and stalking – are part of an ongoing federal investigation that has already resulted in the arrests of four people, including a man who Tatiana Pino identified as having worked for the couple on their yacht.

Sergio Pino was not yet charged with a crime, but the FBI has confirmed it searched the couple’s home in the affluent Cocoplum neighborhood and his business offices as part of an ongoing investigation in June.

"Based upon all I have learned during two years of representing Sergio, there is nothing to indicate that he ever harmed or wanted to harm his wife. He was a gentle and kind man, loved and respected by the many people he employed at his businesses. He loved his children and grandchildren and talked of little else," Sergio Pino's attorney, Deanna S. Shifrin, said in a statement to NBC6 on Tuesday. "I do believe that the combination of unnecessarily destructive divorce litigation along with selective and salacious media coverage was humiliating to him and led to this tragedy."

On Tuesday, at least a dozen law enforcement vehicles could be seen outside the home. Windows were broken, and residents reported hearing flash bangs. Members of the public were asked to avoid the area.

Pino heads a building empire in Miami-Dade, much of it under the auspices of Century Homebuilders Group, whose website says it is the largest Hispanic-owned homebuilder in the nation. He has served as a president of the politically powerful Latin Builders Association.

Poisoning, arson, stalking allegations in divorce of prominent South Florida developer

Who was Sergio Pino, the millionaire property developer found dead in his home?

Over their decades together, Tatiana has often appeared by his side at formal events, but the public image of a happy, wealthy couple began to fade when she filed for divorce in April 2022.

If you see the word “Century” in a Miami-Dade development, it likely began with the Pino family and it’s made Sergio Pino and company very wealthy.

One financial statement cited during his November 2023 deposition in the divorce case puts his and Tatiana’s combined net worth in 2021 at $359 million; another produced in that same deposition put it at $153 million. Pino testified he created the larger statement of financial position as “a joke” that included “made up” numbers, and said the smaller net worth statement was accurate.

Whatever the amount, how much of it that is rightfully Tatiana’s lies at the heart of a two-year divorce battle, one now featured in a federal criminal case involving four men indicted in what the feds call a “stalking conspiracy.”

Surveillance video shows a rented Home Depot flatbed truck waiting outside her home. As she arrives, the truck is thrown into reverse and circles backward, accelerating as it crashes into her passenger side door, then speeds away.

Michael Dulfo, one of the defendants investigators said was connected to the Home Depot rental, later told those investigators he was “contracted” to commit the crime “by someone working for the opposing party” in the Pino divorce case, according to an FBI agent’s affidavit.

And when Tatiana was questioned about possible suspects, the FBI says she recognized one of them – 32-year-old Bayron Bennett – as having worked on the Pinos’ yacht.

The criminal complaint against Bennett says he admitted soliciting Dulfo to commit the hit and run, as well as the torching of three vehicles in 2022 and 2023 outside this house belonging to Tatiana Pino’s sister. He told agents someone asked him to seek out others to commit crimes against Tatiana, according to the complaint, which does not name who that “someone” may be.

Asked in a general sense what is going on here, Tatiana’s attorney Raymond Rafool told NBC6 that is ultimately a matter for the FBI.

“That's what the investigation is,” he said. “And what's going on is what they are determining, but I think it's pretty clear to everybody what's going on.”

Sergio Pino’s attorney, Deanna Shifrin, told NBC6 in a statement at least one thing is clear: Sergio Pino is an innocent man.

“We can categorically state that Mr. Pino was not involved in any of the alleged conduct,” Shifrin said.

The largest yachts attending the Monaco Yacht Show 2024

The highlight of the superyacht calendar, every year the Monaco Yacht Show attracts the latest and greatest builds from around the world. Over 20 entries in the 50-metre-plus range have already been confirmed, with the show set to return to Port Hercule from 25 to 28 September.

BOAT takes a closer look at the biggest yachts both in the port and at anchor, beginning with a behemoth from German shipyard Lürssen ...

Length : 122m Builder : Lürssen

This year's headliner is also one of the industry's latest deliveries. Kismet was handed over to her owner Shahid Khan in May 2024, who previously owned the 95.2-metre Lürssen yacht Whisper (formerly Kismet ). His new yacht reunites him with Reymond Langton Design for the interior, but the exteriors on the new build have been helmed by Nuvolari Lenard . She's now one of the world's most expensive yachts for charter , asking a staggering €3,000,000 per week with Cecil Wright & Partners . And no wonder, with a helipad, beauty salon, indoor and outdoor cinema, dance floor and gym at guests' fingertips.

Length : 90.1m Builder : Oceanco

Luiz de Basto first dreamt up Dar ' s sinuous, shark-inspired design eight years before her delivery, while seated in his Miami office overlooking Biscayne Bay. Dar features around 390 square metres of glass in her superstructure alone, not counting the doors and hull windows. Once inside, the result is said to be like floating in mid air. Standout features include an owner's deck – complete with private saloon and Jacuzzi – as well as a wellness area, with Hammam, sauna and massage room. She won Motor Yacht of the Year at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards and was recently selected to be BOAT International 's charter yacht of the week . The superyacht is making her return to the Monaco Yacht Show after first appearing in Port Hercule shortly after delivery. 

Dar is asking €208,000,000 with Large Yacht Corp .

Length : 78.4m Builder : Abeking & Rasmussen

Chandeliers, Macassar ebony furniture and custom floral panels: Amaryllis is a five-deck superyacht best known for her dazzling display of Reymond Langton -designed Art Deco decor. She can sleep twelve guests across six cabins, including an owner's cabin with a clawfoot bed, lime marble en suite and 180-degree ocean views. Standout features include a piano lounge and a cinema suite, while her beach club boasts a dedicated spa with a sauna, steam room, plunge pool and massage room. Amaryllis last underwent a major refit in 2019 and will be looking fresh on the docks during the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show. 

Amaryllis is asking €89,000,000 with Moravia Yachting .

Length : 77.8m    Builder: Amels

Tasked with a brief to "defy convention and find ways to connect with the ocean", naval architect Espen Øino and interior designer François Zuretti came together to create Energy . The design duo first worked together on Blohm & Voss ' 74.5-metre Eco , now Zeus , with Martin Francis in the 1980s. The superyacht has an impressive volume of 2,885GT which houses accommodation for 14 guests, an upper deck aft pool, a spacious gym, a large beach club with spa and a glass elevator, to name a few. She has only been used privately since new and was recently selected as BOAT International 's brokerage boat of the month .

Energy is POA with Burgess .

Length : 73.3m    Builder : SilverYachts

Dragonfly was hailed as the fastest, most fuel-efficient long-range cruiser when she was delivered in 2009, with a transatlantic range of 22 knots. Her streamlined exterior and elongated bow sprung from the boards of Espen Øino , while her rich, ambient interiors are by Danielo Silvestrin . Dragonfly 's outdoor cinema, large sunpad that can convert into a dance floor and swim platform – dubbed the "ultimate toy launchpad" by the broker – are the major crowd pleasers. She was also commended for her contribution to the disaster relief effort in Vanuatu after Hurricane Pam devastated the island in 2015.

Dragonfly is asking €27,000,000 with Y.CO .

Planet Nine

Length : 73.2m Builder: Admiral - The Italian Sea Group

Admiral's Planet Nine boasts an ice-classed steel hull, a range of 6,000 nautical miles and a bold, militaristic exterior by British designer Tim Heywood . Her interiors were custom built by German luxury outfitter Fitz and feature accommodation for up to 16, including an owner's suite with balconies and a VIP cabin with a private outdoor space on the bridge deck. Exterior and interior relaxation options are also plentiful, including a large beach club designed for use in both warm and cool climates and a sundeck spa pool. Planet Nine recently underwent a comprehensive refit and is best known to the public for her starring role in Christopher Nolan's time-bending thriller Tenet . She will be the largest explorer yacht attending the Monaco Yacht Show.

Planet Nine is asking €79,500,000 with Fraser .

Length : 62m Builder : Viareggio Superyachts (VSY)

Another Espen Øino design, Sealion accommodates 12 guests across six cabins, including an owner's suite with a raised layout for panoramic views and"spa-like features", including a Jacuzzi tub. Meanwhile, a cinema room in the skylounge and her two-level sundeck – complete with a bar, Jacuzzi, sunpads and mist options – are ready to entertain guests. The superyacht's previous name, Candyscape II,  alludes to her eclectic interiors courtesy of Candy & Candy studio . Highlights include a spectacular Schimmel glass grand piano in the main saloon and an ornate glass lift that links the lower deck to the bridge deck. She was recently selected as BOAT International 's charter yacht of the week .

Sealion is POA with Denison Yachting .

Length : 61.5m Builder : Sanlorenzo

Making an appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, Lemon Tree was delivered in 2021 as the first Sanlorenzo 62Steel. What sets this superyacht apart is her owner's cabin, fitted with a private deck and pool and an adjoining sky lounge, which can be converted into a family cinema. Another highlight of this yacht is the large Hammam and beach club, which has openings on three sides and a glass ceiling that filters natural light through the pool. Accommodation is for a party of 14 guests in seven cabins – one of which can be turned into a massage room.

Lemon Tree is asking €59,500,000 with Y.CO .

Length : 60m Builder : Amels

Entourage won big this year, cinching a BOAT International Design & Innovation Award and a Neptune at the World Superyacht Awards . While the first hull in the series, Come Together , features distinctive geometric windows, the design team customised this second Amels 60 with long strips of glazing that allow additional light into the interior. Another noteworthy design choice is the extended bridge deck and sundeck which, first requested by the owner, has now been implemented in all subsequent builds. It was this "fantastic evolution" that swayed the judges, though they were also impressed by Entourage 's clever use of space, including her optimised storage.

Entourage is available to charter with Moran Yacht & Ship from €435,000 per week.

Length : 60m Builder : Lürssen

Another World Superyacht Awards winner, Caipirinha picked up the coveted Motor Yacht of the Year Award in 2010. She was designed by Espen Øino and Mark Berryman and has a "versatile" layout, according to the broker – including a formal saloon that can be converted to a cinema via a hidden screen and projector. Other highlights include a formal dining room for 14 guests and a sundeck arranged with a Jacuzzi, a gym, an onyx-topped bar and a casual lounge area. This is not her first yacht show appearance, but her German pedigree and impressive design credentials will make her worth a visit in Monte Carlo during the boat show. 

Caipirinha is asking $59,990,000 with Burgess . 

Pink Shadow

Length : 58m Builder : Damen Yachting

Delivered last summer, Pink Shadow is an eye-catching new entry in the SUV (Sports Utility Vessel) sector and the first unit in the Dutch shipyard's 58M Xplorer series. The superyacht is widely known for her richly coloured, eclectic Design Unlimited interiors, inspired by the Amazonian adventure-drama Fitzcarraldo . Highlights include a crocodile-teeth table, neon wall hangings and "The Habana Room", an upper deck cigar lounge made complete with a bespoke humidor. However, it was her fun, multi-functional exterior that won her a BOAT International Design & Innovation Award earlier this year. 

Diamond Binta

Length : 58m Builder : Tankoa Yachts

This full-custom superyacht was launched in late June, making her one of the newest entries on this list of yachts at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024. Diamond Binta was designed by long-time collaborator Francesco Paszkowski Design for a repeat Tankoa client, who previously owned the 50-metre Binta D'Or (now Sp1 ). Leisure highlights include a forward helideck, a large beach club with a spa and a sundeck set up with a gym and pool. A glass-encased corridor stretches from the beach club to the cabins directly through the engine room, offering a glimpse at the inner workings of the superyacht.

The most fabulous yachts to charter this summer

There are an estimated 6,000 superyachts — vessels that are more than 100 feet long — at sea in 2024

As summer reaches its peak across the Northern Hemisphere, it’s hard to imagine a better way of spending a vacation than channeling your inner ship captain and sailing across the ocean.

In recent years, yacht companies have reported a boom in sales — far from the decline that many in the industry feared, due to both the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic realities of the Russia-Ukraine War.

“I spent my days [in 2020] doing worst-case scenarios and drawing up the budgets to go with them,” Giovanna Vitelli, chairwoman of Azimut|Benetti, the world’s largest yacht manufacturer, told the Economist in 2023.

Instead, her company reported a 23% growth in production value in 2023 —a reality that is not unique to just one yacht manufacturer. The luxury yacht market is expected to grow in value from $7.67 billion in 2023 to $17.33 billion by 2032, according to a recent report from Fortune Business Insights .

Analysts attribute the ships’ rise in popularity to the increasing number of extremely wealthy individuals . Yachts have long been considered a status symbol — a reality that has only increased as wealth becomes concentrated in the hands of a small group of high status individuals .

There are an estimated 6,000 superyachts —vessels that are more than 100 feet long — at sea as of this year. This is nearly quadruple the number of yachts seen in the ocean just three decades ago, according to Bloomberg .

Aside from an increase in popularity, the yacht industry has seen other changes in recent years. Increasingly, those in the market for a luxury ship are turning to alternate means of powering their vessels, as critics point to the excess emissions traditional yachts produce simply for recreational use.

In their 2024 report, Fortune Business Insights highlighted the growing trend of electrification as a significant area of growth in the coming years.

“A tough regulatory environment for traditional yachts and rising fuel prices will pave the way for the solid growth of electric yachts in the future,” the report reads. “Huge investments from various manufacturers and government support measures will accelerate the demand for electric yachts.”

Carinthia VII

Originally constructed in 2002, the award-winning Carinthia VII was recently remodeled and reimagined specifically for private charters. The 319-foot ship spans six decks and can accommodate up to 12 guests in eight staterooms. Among the ship’s amenities are two bars, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor projection screen that allows for an “immersive cinematic experience like no other.” The cost of chartering the Carinthia VII is $1,525,700 during both the winter and summer seasons.

The Lady S yacht boasts a number of exciting water toys, including jet skis, water skis, wakeboards and kayaks for athletic guests on the 305-foot ship. For those who prefer more indoor-oriented activities, however, you can also catch a film on the ship’s IMAX Dolby cinema — the first of its kind on any yacht in the world. Accommodating 12 guests, in seven cabins, the cost of chartering the Lady S begins at $1,743,328 a week.

The interior of the Ahpo yacht seems more reminiscent of a luxury hotel than a simple ship. Accommodating 16 guests and 36 crew members, the vessel features a full-size gym, a winter garden and a spa complete with a Himalayan salt sauna. The 378-foot long yacht was first manufactured in 2021 by the German shipyard Lürssen. Excited sailors can charter the Ahpo from superyacht broker Edmiston, beginning at $2,833,376 a week.

500EXP Para Bellum

This 154-foot-long yacht can accommodate up to 12 travelers in its six cabins, along with up to 10 crew members. The ship was specially designed to enable “guests a 360-degree experience and relationship with the sea” through its unique stern and sundeck that allow travelers to safely stand “almost at sea level,” according to its Italian manufacturer San Lorenzo . Interested travelers can rent the ship for $359,609 a week.

The Renaissance

The Renaissance lives up to its grandiose name by going beyond traditional private yachts and bridging the gap between a personal vehicle and a full-on cruise ship. The 367-foot long ship features five decks and can accommodate 36 guests in 19 cabins. The Renaissance’s amenities include a 19-seat movie theater, a sushi-bar, and a full spa deck featuring a wellness area, plunge pools and a hair salon. The cost of chartering the ship from Burgess Yachts ranges from $3,269,280 to $3,814,160 a week.
