Lil Yachty’s New Song With Drake and DaBaby Seems Too Big to Fail
By Charles Holmes
Charles Holmes
“Oprah’s Bank Account” is a feat of engineering. The song and video feature two of music’s biggest streaming artists: Drake and DaBaby . Director X — the same filmmaker behind Drake’s “Hotline Bling” — helms the visual. And Lil Yachty , who fully commits to impersonating Oprah at the peak of her daytime talk show powers, leads his rapping co-stars in a series of sketches destined to flood Instagram feeds and Twitter timelines across the nation.
In that way, “Oprah’s Bank Account” feels like a culmination. For the first third of 2020, Yachty recalibrated on the fringes of rap , quietly and consistently turning in feature after feature, appearance after video appearance. Whether it was Tadoe’s “Get It Bussin” or Duke Deuce’s “Crunk Ain’t Dead Mob,” the crimson-haired rapper reclaimed, in short bursts, some of the goodwill he’d lost since the critiqued release of 2017’s Teenage Emotions .
At one point in the video, Yachty and Drake launch into a skit about the current state of rap. It’s more revealing than funny. The sketch quickly devolves into dad humor, showing just how fast rapper’s age in the new ecosystem. The two musicians joke about mumble rap at Yachty’s expense. For some godforsaken reason, they mispronounce TikTok as “TokTake.” Then Yachty as “Boprah” asks, “This new generation of music, these new rappers. The mumble rap, what do you think about it?”
“I think it’s amazing,” Drake responds. “Literally, writing nursery rhymes that nobody can understand. I think it’s progressive and innovative. I think at the forefront of that movement of music that should be forgotten about \ Lil Yachy.” With the help of Drake, DaBaby, and Director X, Lil Yachty maay have a moment on his hands that’s all but impossible to ignore. Yet again, Yachty — with the help of the forces invested in his future — seems too big to fail, similar to Oprah’s bank account.

The three rappers spoof the iconic daytime talk show – and themselves – in the hilarious video for Lil Yachty’s newest single.

Lil Yachty just dropped his new single, ‘Oprah’s Bank Account (featuring Drake and DaBaby)’, along with an epic, comical video that stars all three artists.
The Grammy-nominated rapper, who teamed up with Director X (‘Hotline Bling’), not only plays the legendary talk-show host (known as “Boprah” in the nine-minute video) but also conceptualised and wrote the video’s sketches. The new track was produced by longtime collaborator EarlOnTheBeat, and precedes Lil Yachty’s anticipated fourth studio album, Lil Boat 3 , due out later this spring.

In the video’s first scene, Drake plays a guest on the Boprah show and discusses his newest accessory – earrings. He also begrudgingly embraces the new generation of rappers (as seen on “Tok Tik”), and calls out Lil Yachty (or, “Yacchhy”, as he pronounces it) for being at “the forefront of that movement of music that should be forgotten about”.
DaBaby is featured in another scene, where he explains to Boprah about how he makes an album sound like one, long song. “If you make every damn song like an ongoing song, you never gotta make another song again…I’ll be triple platinum for the rest of my life”!
This collaboration isn’t the first between Lil Yachty and Drake. At the start of the year, Yachty appeared in the music video for Future’s hit song, ‘Life Is Good’, which featured Drake. The sought-after young rapper has also joined forces with the likes of Cardi B and Offset, Calvin Harris, Kehlani and Chance the Rapper.
In an interview that came out earlier today on Complex , Yachty discussed how the track came about. Initially, “I did the song by myself. DaBaby, he had a meet and greet in Atlanta, and I went…I hung out with him for three or four hours there, and I was like, ‘You want to go to the studio’? He came and I played [the song], and he loved it. He thought it was a hit, so he hopped on it, which was really cool. That was maybe three or four days after I made it”.
Then Drake heard the song on Yachty’s finsta. “He was like, ‘Yo, this is dope’, which blew my mind. Of course, that’s the homie, but him showing love like that, [was cool]. Then he [told me to] send it through. I didn’t know he was serious, but he got on it”.
The rapper ultimately had his fans in mind when he released the new single. “I think the song’s so good and catchy, my fans will appreciate it. That’s the most important thing”.
Lil Yachty also shared a few details about his forthcoming album, which he said is “Just as fun” as the song, adding, “My album’s done. My album is coming very soon. I haven’t spoken on it yet, but it’s coming. It’s ending the trilogy to my Lil Boat series”.

Drake opens up to Lil Yachty in Oprah drag for 'Oprah's Bank Account' music video
Marcus is a Digital News Writer. He enjoys when Rihanna makes music, and is open to watching any film or TV show where someone has a drink thrown at them.
Nearly nine years after The Oprah Winfrey Show ended , rapper Lil Yachty has thrown on a wig and some makeup for his "Oprah's Bank Account" music video to pay homage to the groundbreaking talk show — and to give people the Winfrey interview with Drake that we never got the first time around.
In his drag persona Boprah, Yachty jokes with Drake (who himself appeared as Oprah in his "Energy" music video) about how growing a beard and his LSC (light-skinned capability) have helped the Toronto rapper in his career. In turn, Drake praises Lil Yachty to Boprah by saying he's at "the forefront of that movement of music that should be forgotten about."
After a disastrous Boprah segment featuring Lil Yachty, with the rapper playing opposite himself, the music video shifts to an on-location segment in which Boprah interviews breakout rapper DaBaby . In addition to giving some entrepreneurial advice to the North Carolina MC, Boprah gets real answers about why it could be argued that all DaBaby songs sound the same.
The music video was conceived by Lil Yachty, who also wrote the skits. It was directed by Director X, who has collaborated with Drake on music videos like "Work" with Rihanna . "Oprah's Bank Account" is off Yachty's upcoming album Lil Boat 3 , due this spring.

Lil Yachty ’s first single from his highly anticipated forthcoming Lil Boat 3 is an event. “Oprah’s Bank Account,” featuring Drake and DaBaby , comes with a hysterical nine-minute mini-movie in which Yachty plays a convincing Oprah Winfrey. The song will be a hit on its own, but it takes on a new life thanks to Yachty’s portrayal of America’s favorite talk-show host.

As for the actual production on the star-studded track, the song is handled by Earl on the Beat, who Billboard spoke with about the record’s origin.
The Atlanta-bred producer didn’t have high expectations for his beat, but after Yachty recorded a hook over it, Earl had to convince his collaborator that the idea was good enough to pursue.
“When I’m making beats, I just let it happen. It just happened to sound good, and I liked the melody of my production. I just made the beat at the crib and sent it to Boat,” Earl explains shortly after the song’s March 9 release. “He didn’t know how he felt about it at first, but I told him his hook was fire. The next thing I knew, he added DaBaby to the track.”

Even though Earl had been hearing rumors of an appearance from the OVO label boss, he was skeptical and unwilling to get his hopes up until he actually heard Drake rap over his beat.
“It was wild when I heard Drake was gonna be featured. I didn’t think he was actually gonna do it,” he says with a chuckle. “I wanted to wait until it actually happened before getting excited. I didn’t want to think on it too hard. When it came about, Drake just made it go that much harder.”
Drake turns in a fun and crafty verse, while DaBaby provides a typically reliable heater. Yachty’s verse isn’t quite as noteworthy, but it’s solid enough to hang with his two guest artists, which is tough to do considering the level of lyrical talent on the track.
Sure, the guest features from DaBaby and Drake instantly propelled the song to a must-hear showcase, but Yachty reminds you why he was so inescapable just a few years ago: His hook is infectious, and Earl’s simple but refined beat gives enough room for Yachty to expand his style.
The nine-minute video also allows Yachty ample room to showcase his sense of humor and creative vision. “I think Yachty pulls off a really good Oprah performance,” Earl tells Billboard . “I knew that the video was gonna happen, and I loved the idea from the start. I knew it was gonna be big. It’s different, but it’s hard.”

Lil Yachty Plays Oprah, Hosts Drake and DaBaby in "Oprah's Bank Account" Video
Drake speaks on reaching his full ‘light-skinned capabilities.’.
Lil Yachty has returned with his latest single, “Oprah’s Bank Account,” enlisting Drake and DaBaby for guest verses and Oprah-inspired sit-down interviews in a nine-minute visual offering that’s part short film, part music video. Directed by Director X with the video’s treatment written by the rapper himself, “Oprah’s Bank Account” sees Yachty dress-up as the iconic talkshow host (named Boprah here) while interviewing Drake about how he opened up his LSC (light-skinned capabilities). The OVO rapper jokingly praises the Yachty for being at “the forefront of that movement of music that should be forgotten about.”
The song concept is pretty simple: Lil Yachty is chasing a girl who looks as good as Oprah’s bank account and wants to know if the love is real or not. Drake brags about making out with Madonna, hiding out in his new Toronto estate like Osama Bin Laden did in his cave and claims that he’s Canada’s Barack Obama. Meanwhile, DaBaby explains the meaning behind his “let’s goooo” ad lib and details why rappers really don’t need more than one hit to make a living these days.

Oprah's Reacts to Lil Yachty, Drake, and DaBaby's Song About Her Bank Account: "I Love It!"
"I loveeeeee it! Yes, I love it!”
- Although Oprah says she has yet to see the video, she told The Associated Press that she enjoys the song: "I love it. I love it. I loveeeeee it!"
On March 9, rappers Lil Yachty, Drake, and DaBaby released their single "Oprah's Bank Account." Since, fans have been been wondering what Lady O herself thinks of the track. Turns out, the O of O more than approves.
When asked by The Associated Press what she thinks of the catchy song—with its main lyric "You look as good as Oprah's bank account." The media mogul was enthusiastic in her praise. "I love it. I love it. I loveeeeee it! Yes, I love it!" she said.
The song's release was accompanied by a nine-minute long music video recreating The Oprah Winfrey Show . The clip opens to a cheering studio audience, featuring Lil Yachty dressed as "Boprah" interviewing rappers Drake and DaBaby. The music video also shows Lil Yachty a.k.a. "Boprah" giving out gifts to the audience in a riff on Lady O's famous car giveaways .
“I haven’t seen the video,” Winfrey told the AP , “But it’s nice to be in a Drake song no matter what—especially for your bank account, okay!”
If you loved the music video? In a two-part series, Lil Yachty took his YouTube followers behind the scenes of filming "Boprah" with both Drake and DaBaby. To date, the "Oprah's Bank Account" music video already has over 12 million views on YouTube, and the song hit #55 on the Billboard Hot 100—making it Drake's 208th song to enter the charts and giving him the record for "the most entries of all time," according to @chartdata .
If you're curious as to what the "Oprah's Bank Account" song is all about or want to follow along with the music video, below are the complete lyrics, courtesy of Genius.com . In mid-March, Lil Yachty displayed his acting chops when he dressed up as talk-show era Oprah Winfrey for his “Boprah” interpretation. From the wig to his clothing, Yachty sat down on the couch with collaborator Drake for his single “Oprah’s Bank Account,” which also features Da Baby, prompting a reaction from the mogul herself.
In an interview with the Associated Press , Winfrey said she loves Yachty’s melody and although she hasn’t seen the video just yet, she said “it’s nice to be in a Drake song no matter what—especially for your bank account, OK!”
In an interview with Complex , Yachty said the video’s inspiration came from one of Winfrey’s past talk show episodes. “It’s basically a re-creation of an old Oprah TV show episode. It’s fun,” he said. “I hope people enjoy it, and I hope it’s an uptempo vibe. That’s what it’s about. I don’t have a purpose for the song, just to be fun and be a vibe.” The melody sits at No. 23 on the Billboard Rap Songs Chart.
On the subject of a full-length project, the Georgia native said his album is complete. “My album is coming very soon. I haven’t spoken on it yet, but it’s coming,” he said. “It’s ending the trilogy to my Lil Boat series.”

NEW YORK (AP) — Lil Yachty, DaBaby and Drake’s new rap song “Oprah’s Bank Account” is one of Oprah’s favorite things.
No, the song hasn’t officially made the media mogul’s annual list, but when asked what she thought of the song, Winfrey exclaimed to The Associated Press: “I love it. I love it. I loveeeeee it! Yes, I love it!”
“Oprah’s Bank Account” was released last month and will be featured on Lil Yachty’s new album, “Lil Boat 3,” to be released this year. The song is currently No. 23 on Billboard’s rap songs chart .
In the 9-minute music video for the song , Lil Yachty, as the character Boprah, is dressed like Winfrey and hosts a talk show, where Drake appears as his guest. Lil Yachty also interviews DaBaby in the clip.
“I haven’t seen the video,” Winfrey said, adding: “But it’s nice to be in a Drake song no matter what — especially for your bank account, OK!”
“Oprah’s Bank Account,” which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart last month, became Drake’s 208th song on the all-genre chart. It helped the rap star set a new record for most songs on the chart as he surpassed the 207-song run by the “Glee” cast, who had success with cover versions of well-known songs that would debut on the charts after episodes aired.

Oprah's Bank Account by Lil Yachty (featuring Drake & DaBaby )
Songfacts®:
- This song finds Lil Yachty, Drake and DaBaby rapping about their lovers. On the chorus, Yachty draws a parallel between Oprah Winfrey 's wealth and his girl. Diamond in the rough, you look as good as Oprah's bank account Winfrey's net worth was estimated at $2.6 billion at the date of the song's release. In comparing his significant other to the media mogul's bank balance, Yachty is insinuating that she is very attractive.
- The track is produced by Yachty's frequent collaborator, EarlOnTheBeat (" Act Up ," "Yacht Club," "Get Dripped"). The Atlanta-bred producer told Billboard that after Yachty recorded a hook over his beat he had to convince his collaborator the idea was good enough to pursue. "When I'm making beats, I just let it happen. It just happened to sound good, and I liked the melody of my production. I just made the beat at the crib and sent it to Boat," he explained. "He didn't know how he felt about it at first, but I told him his hook was fire. The next thing I knew, he added DaBaby to the track."
- The collaboration with Drake and DaBaby came about organically, but Yachty revealed to Complex that it was Lizzo who he originally wanted to get on the song, but she never responded to him. Instead, Drake ended up jumping on the cut after Yachty posted a snippet on his finsta Instagram account. "It's so crazy because I originally wanted to put Lizzo on it," he said. "I sent it to her, and I don't want to say she didn't like it, because she never got back to me on it, which was cool. I understand people are busy. And then I posted a snippet on my finsta. Drake follows my finsta, which is crazy. And he was like, 'Yo, this is dope,' which blew my mind."
- DaBaby was the first person to jump on the song. Yachty explained that three or four days after he'd made the track, Da Baby had a meet and greet in Atlanta, Yachty dropped by, and after they'd hung out for three or four hours together, they went to the studio. Yachty played him "Oprah's Bank Account," and as Da Baby thought it was a potential hit, he asked if he could hop on it.
- Lil Yachty dropped the song on March 9, 2020, which coincided with the fourth anniversary of the release of the first installment of his Lil Boat series. The mixtape introduced Yachty's bubble-gum trap music to the mainstream.
- Director X directed the humorous video, which he shot in Toronto and Atlanta. The visual's concept of Yachty dressing up as Oprah Winfrey and hosting The Boprah Show originated from the rapper himself. Yachty also penned the skits. "It's basically a re-creation of an old Oprah TV show episode," Yachty explained to Complex . "It's fun. I hope people enjoy it, and I hope it's an uptempo vibe. That's what it's about. I don't have a purpose for the song, just to be fun and be a vibe."
- When this song debuted at #89 on the Hot 100 chart, it marked Drake's 208th entry on the tally. This meant the Toronto MC officially surpassed the cast of Glee to become the artist with the most Hot 100 hits in history.
- So what does Oprah Winfrey think of the song? Speaking with The Associated Press , the billionaire gave the track the thumbs up. "I love it. I love it. I loveeeeee it! Yes, I love it!" she said. "I haven't seen the video. But it's nice to be in a Drake song no matter what - especially for your bank account, OK!"

Lil Yachty Put Drake And DaBaby On ‘Oprah’s Bank Account’ Because Lizzo Never Responded
Lil Yachty announced his return to the Lil Boat persona that first made him a star yesterday with the release of the comedic video for his new single “Oprah’s Bank Account.” The video, which also features Drake and DaBaby, sees Yachty playing a parody of Oprah, making fun of himself through his “guests” and bringing back the Autotuned crooning that highlighted his breakthrough mixtape, Lil Boat . Then, in an interview with Complex , he broke down how he got two of hip-hop’s biggest stars to feature on the song — and missed out on another.
According to Yachty, he originally wanted to put Lizzo on the song, but she never got back to him. A series of serendipitous events led to DaBaby and Drake replacing her on his wishlist and with all three artists boasting healthy senses of humor, it only made sense to do a satirical video like the one they released yesterday. “I did the song by myself,” Yachty explained, but if you have a chance to get the biggest names in music on a song, you go for it.
“It’s so crazy because I originally wanted to put Lizzo on it,” he said. “I sent it to her, and I don’t want to say she didn’t like it, because she never got back to me on it, which was cool. I understand people are busy. And then I posted a snippet on my finsta. Drake follows my finsta, which is crazy. And he was like, “Yo, this is dope,” which blew my mind. Of course that’s the homie, but him showing love like that, [was cool]. Then he [told me to] send it through. I didn’t know he was serious, but he got on it.”
“DaBaby, he had a meet and greet in Atlanta, and I went,” Yachty elaborated. “I didn’t necessarily know he was going to like this song or want to get on it. I didn’t play it for him and he hadn’t heard it. But I hung out with him for three or four hours there, and I was like, ‘You want to go to the studio?’ He came and I played it, and he loved it.”
As far as the album the song will eventually live on, Yachty says, “My album’s done. My album is coming very soon. I haven’t spoken on it yet, but it’s coming. It’s ending the trilogy to my Lil Boat series.”
