The Seiko SKX007 is legendary. As mentioned earlier, this particular timepiece by Seiko is affordable, yes, but also timeless. It has a history as an ever-reliable watch that could accompany you to dive as deep in the oceanic depths as much as you can or need. That storied reputation made it clear for horology enthusiasts with little or no modding experience that it was the choice watch for personalization and modification. Why? Because it was durable. It could stand to get modded.

Although Seiko discontinued the SKX007, it has become a collector's item. In addition, a slew of imitative SKXs is out in the market. Some of the imitations are downright worthless, but some of the higher-quality replicas can be very convincing and might fool a would-be buyer into spending more than they ought to. The SKX007 was never meant to be a premium or luxury watch. Instead, it utilized an inexpensive movement paired with utilitarian parts, making imitation SKXs easy for replica manufacturers to create.

However, it might be better to build a Seiko SKX007 from the depths up, so to speak. The SKX007 was a great budget diver's watch at its best. It never tried to compete with other watches in terms of make and materials, and it was a reliable go-to watch for anyone that needed a quality watch that could work for years without any issues or need for service.

But for the more advanced and aggressive watch modder or horology enthusiast, rebuilding one could be the best way to express oneself with a one-of-a-kind timepiece. Especially since the problem with getting a limited SKX piece today is that it can be too expensive. However, if you were to buy it as a watch collector's item, that could still work. However, be sure to keep it in a safe place or compartment, and do not wear it too often outside of your home - if that's what you want out of your SKX. 

For anyone that wants an SKX-style watch made to be used, it makes a lot more sense to build one. It could be more labor-intensive, but it is less pricey that way. After all, it would be a labor of love for any lover of watches and timepieces.

The Seiko Yachtmaster

A less daunting way of approaching a watch mod job for beginners is to turn to aspirational builds inspired by well-known watch designs or timepiece designs. I was a bit skeptic regarding the quality considering the price but I have to say it’s even better than more expansive MODs I have bought in the past, especially the bezel, and it comes with the tools to adjust the bracelet as well as a handy travel case

The steel bracelet is great but for daily wear and to give it a more sporty look the Rubber strap has been just perfect, and I ended up using mostly that

There’s room for improvement

The watch looks solid and well made, nontheless the packaging is not exactly luxurious, a small leather case or something of that sort could make it feel like a true luxrury timepiece, just a reccomandation

I have to say I’m a bit disappointed, the watch took one week longer to arrive, first they told me that it will take two days more to assemble since they were having an overload of orders, then the package got stuck in transit and they could only say to reach out to USPS, not satisfied by the post-purchase support

What a watch and customer support

Up for sale is my Seiko Sports Yachtmaster Mod. I performed the mod on this Guilt colored SRPD57 Seiko Sports watch. I replaced the Hardex Crystal with a Double Dome Sapphire crystal with AR coating, replaced the bezel with a 120 click coin edge style and added a YachtMaster style Ceramic bezel insert. I replaced the stock hands with a set of SeaMaster style. Last but not least, I added a YachtMaster bracelet from Strap Code. The watch is in excellent condition. It's a full set including all the replaced parts. Comes in the original box and manuals. This is a sports watch and NOT a diver, like all Seiko Sports watches, the crown does not screw down. Seiko’s Moscow Debut Timed to the Brand’s 50th Anniversary in Russia

The brand commemorates its russia-specific golden anniversary with maiden boutique launch in leading city.

A celebratory first for Seiko Watch Corporation , the premium Japanese watchmaker launched its brand into the Moscow market this week, with the European city’s pilot boutique located within the high-end shopping district of St. Nickolas Complex set on Nikolskaya Street.

Positioned at the heart of the 80-square-metre retail outlet are three key Seiko luxury brands namely Grand Seiko, Credor, and Galante. An additional milestone is reflected in the fact that the aforementioned Grand Seiko selection at the boutique is one of the widest outside of Japan.

Gracing the opening ceremony with his presence was leading Russian athlete and Seiko ambassador since 2012, Darya Klishina. An extensive range of both the Credor and Galante collections, brands which until now have been sold mainly in Japan, is also being offered for the first time in Russia.

The newly opened branch also carries many exclusive and limited-edition models such as the Credor masterpiece, Eichi II, a hand-crafted timepiece which has attracted wide praise amongst connoisseurs of luxury watchmaking. Furthermore, Seiko’s latest technologies have been embedded into a variety of Astron and Prospex watches.

“This year is Seiko’s 50th anniversary in Russia; Seiko was registered as a trademark in Russia in 1965. We are delighted to open this boutique in this important anniversary year,” said Takashi Aizawa, Director and Executive Vice President of Seiko Watch Corporation.

He added that the new boutique marks one of several which have opened in leading cities worldwide.

“Last year we opened one in New York, and this year we added Frankfurt and Tokyo. Our aim is to allow visitors a unique, exciting, and intriguing opportunity to explore the world of Seiko through our history and our finest watches.”
