Alligator attack at Disney World: Chilling new details emerge

Two-year-old Lane Graves had bent to scoop up some wet sand for the castle he was building on the beach of a Disney World resort when an alligator suddenly snatched the boy by his head, according to the final report by Florida authorities on the June attack.

The report recounts the desperate attempt by the boy's father, Matt Graves, to save his son and includes witness accounts of the horrific scene.

"I saw the father jump in after the gator and he rolled around in the water,” 16-year-old Peter Courakos told NBC News.

Another bystander described Graves running out of the water “with blood all over the right side of his face and right hand. According to the report, the father was unable to free his child and began yelling, “Please come help my son a gator got him.”

Lane's body was found following a 16-hour search. Florida wildlife officials caught and killed six alligators following the attack and say that while “it is very likely” they got the one that killed Lane, they can't be certain.

Disney has since built a stone wall around the lagoon where the attack occurred and added warning signs to the area. But the new report by the Wildlife Conservation Commission raises questions about whether previous warnings were ignored. The report cites two people who reported alligator sightings to Disney employees, but it is unclear what actions, if any, the employees took.

Lane Graves would have celebrated his third birthday on September 3.

THE body of a two-year-old boy snatched by an alligator at a Disney resort has now been recovered.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings confirmed that the toddler’s body was found in the water about 3.30pm, local time, after more than 15 hours of searching the Seven Seas Lagoon in Orlando, Florida.

Sheriff Demings identified the young boy as two-year-old Lane Graves of Nebraska, whose parents are Matt and Melissa Graves.

He said the body was found “completely intact” near the attack site, leading authorities to believe the alligator drowned the toddler.

His body will now be turned over to Orange County officers for an autopsy.

The boy was dragged into the water by an alligator at 9pm Tuesday, local time, while wading in about a foot of water during a movie night at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Mr Graves desperately tried to rescue his son but was unsuccessful.

According to eyewitnesses, the toddler’s mother, Ms Graves, was playing with him at the time and also dived into the water.

“The parents diligently tried to get the child,” Sheriff Demings said.

Earlier on Wednesday, Orlando authorities told reporters there was “no question” that the young boy was dead.

Sheriff Demings said a recovery operation was under way to find the child’s body in the lagoon and “bring some closure to this family.” After a 15-hour search, the attack was “certainly not survivable at this point”, Sheriff Demings said.

Five alligators have already been caught in the lagoon and euthanised for analysis.

A crew of more than 50 people, including experienced alligator trappers and sheriff’s department divers using sonar equipment, helicopters and boats searched the network of man-made canals, ponds and lakes to recover the boy’s body. Authorities contacted the boy’s family to express their condolences, Sheriff Demings said, adding “there is no question we will lose a two-year-old child”.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission executive director Nick Wiley said during a press conference that the incident was “extremely rare” and that officers were doing everything they could to prevent another attack.

“It’s very surprising, it’s an extremely rare occurrence in anywhere you have alligators, but we do ask people to be mindful that we do have alligators in the water in Florida and you have to be careful,” Mr Wiley said. “But it’s very rare and it really is a shock to us to see this happen.”

Disney has now closed all resort beaches “out of an abundance of caution” until further notice, a Disney spokesperson said Wednesday morning.

Sheriff Demings said “this type of thing” had never happened before in Disney’s 45 years of operations.

On Tuesday, Sheriff Demings said the child was snatched while on holiday with his mother, father and two siblings.

The family checked into the resort on June 12 and the boy was playing at the water’s edge when the alligator stuck, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.

“There were eyewitnesses here who certainly saw the child taken under the water,” Sheriff Demings said.

Disney spokeswoman Jacquee Wahaler said everyone at the resort was devastated by what happened and Disney was helping the family.

When asked if Disney was aware of alligators on the property, Wahaler advised there were signs that said “no swimming”. Demings said there had been no other recent reports of similar alligator attacks on the lake.

Police said witnesses described the alligator as being between 1.2 and 2.1 metres long.

Sheriff Demings said the father suffered from minor scratches on his hands and believed the mother also entered the water at one point in a desperate attempt to retrieve their child.

The couple raised the alarm with lifeguards but by that time the alligator had disappeared with the child.

A 911 call was received at 9.16pm local time.

‘MY HEART IS SHATTERED’

Katherine White Popp, whose room is directly outside where the child was taken, said she overheard the mother’s screams.

“Just heard the mother grieving her baby. My heart is shattered. I’m standing outside watching them search for someone’s baby,” she wrote on Twitter.

Ms Popp, who is visiting the resort, said the search party was growing by the minute.

Staff at the resort were unwilling to comment on the incident.

Several people on social media said the child was on the beach at the time watching a movie.

AJ Jain, a guest at the hotel, told The Orlando Sentinel he and his family were playing at the beach just hours earlier.

“I’m just here to say a prayer,” he said. “I can’t imagine what those parents are going through. “It’s been one tough week in Orlando.”

In the past week , The Voice singer Christina Grimmie was shot dead and 49 people were also killed in Orlando’s Pulse nightclub by gunman Omar Mateen in a terror attack.

The child is still missing and helicopters have joined the search. Picture: Menardness/Twitter

The hotel is an upscale luxury resort owned by Disney and is one of three hotels on the monorail line.

It is one stop from the Magic Kingdom Park and the Seven Seas Lagoon is popular with water lovers and boating enthusiasts. The resort’s beach pool is next to the lake and overlooks the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Alexander DeMella, who was watching the events unfold from his Disney balcony, told news.com.au that resort staff and authorities had said “no one is allowed on the beaches at this time”.

“[The search] is still very active and [the] chopper keeps circling,” he said.

Florida is renowned for having more alligators than any other US state. Authorities estimate there are between 1.3 million and 2 million alligators across the state.

There were two fatal alligator attacks in Florida last year in the first reported deaths since 2007.

Florida is considered one of the most vulnerable states in America when it comes to rising sea levels, causing the ocean to start seeping into the Everglades swampland, where alligators live.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission , population growth and increasing participation in water-related activities are resulting in more frequent alligator-human interactions.

WAS DISNEY RESPONSIBLE?

Sheriff Demings confirmed there was a sign near the water warning people not to swim.

It is unknown whether the signs mentioned anything about alligators crawling in the waters.

A Disney spokeswoman did not go into detail about the tragic incident but said the resort was devastated and was helping the family and authorities.

Sheriff Demings said police had not received any recent reports or complaints about nuisance alligators but authorities will conduct further investigations.

A witness told a journalist at the Orlando Sentinel they reported a sighting of an alligator to police prior to the attack on the toddler, but Sheriff Demings said he was unaware of the report.

The incident comes after a four-year-old boy fell into the gorilla enclosure at Cincinnati Zoo last month. Keepers were forced to shoot and kill the 17-year-old gorilla named Harambe .

Authorities said the boy, who fell about three metres, was expected to recover after being picked up and dragged by Harambe for about 10 minutes.

Zoo director Thane Maynard said the zoo’s dangerous animal response team decided the boy was in “a life-threatening situation” and they needed to put down the 200kg male gorilla.

Disney has reportedly cleared 250 alligators from Disney World and its other Florida properties since an alligator killed a 2-year-old boy at the Grand Floridian Resort five years ago.

The Mouse House worked with trappers contracted through a state wildlife agency to remove the big, toothy reptiles, the Orlando Sentinel reported . Disney pays trappers $30 for every captured gator plus the proceeds from any leather and meat sold, the newspaper said.

According to Tammy Sapp, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, most of the gators taken from Disney properties are euthanized and sold for their hide and meat.

Those that measure less than 4 feet are allowed to live and are transferred to alligator farms, animal exhibits and zoos, she said. Alligators over 4 feet are considered a nuisance and pose a threat to people, pets and property, according to the Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program.

After Lane Thomas Graves was killed in June 2016, Disney added signs warning guests of reptiles in its waterways and built a boulder wall along the edge of the lagoon.

Lane Graves

Florida’s alligator population is about 1.3 million, the Sentinel said, adding that the wildlife agency has removed close to 8,000 alligators annually over the past five years throughout the state of Florida.

Sapp said there have been three fatal alligator attacks since 2016 in Florida and no reported bite incidents at Disney since Graves’ death.

Deby Cassill, the integrative biology associate campus chair at the University of South Florida, told the Sentinel that the attack that killed Graves happened during alligator mating season. As waters warm, males look for females and females search for food.

Cassill applauded Disney for placing barriers on the property and added that removing nuisance gators doesn’t have much of an impact on the overall gator population.

“I don’t see a harm in removing and euthanizing some of the alligators that are in positions to do what they normally do and that is to find food,” Cassill said. “We want to keep them away from children and pets as much as possible.”

WEATHER ALERT

A rip current statement in effect for Coastal Volusia Region

226 alligators removed from disney world since toddler’s death 5 years ago, alligators removed under the statewide nuisance alligator program.

Mike DeForest , Investigative Reporter

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Wildlife trappers have captured and removed at least 226 nuisance alligators from Walt Disney World property since a toddler was killed by an alligator at a Disney resort nearly five years ago, state records show.

Lane Thomas Graves, 2, was building sandcastles on the beach outside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort on June 14, 2016, when an alligator lunged out of the Seven Seas Lagoon as the toddler bent over to scoop up water with a bucket, a state investigation concluded.

Over the eight years prior to the child’s death, state-contracted wildlife trappers removed an average of 23 alligators from Disney property, according to records from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

In 2016, the year of the fatal attack, 83 alligators were removed from the resort. The following year, 57 alligators were captured.

About 33 alligators were harvested in 2018 and 2019, state records show.

In 2020, another 46 alligators were plucked from Walt Disney World waterways. Nearly half of those removals occurred between late March and early July while the resort’s hotels and theme parks were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020 Florida Gator Sightings

“In keeping with our strong commitment to safety, we continue to reinforce procedures related to reporting sightings and interactions with wildlife, and work closely with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to remove or relocate certain wildlife from our property in accordance with state regulations,” a Walt Disney World spokesperson said.

To address complaints about potentially dangerous alligators, FWC administers the Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program .

If an alligator at least 4 feet in length is believed to pose a threat to people, pets or property, the agency issues a permit to a state-contracted alligator trapper. Nearly 7,700 alligators were captured statewide under the program in 2019. Although some of those reptiles are sold alive to alligator farms, animal exhibits or zoos, most nuisance alligators are euthanized. FWC does not relocate nuisance alligators because the reptiles often try to return to their capture site, and remote locations generally have healthy alligator populations, according to the agency.

According to FWC, the removal of nuisance alligators does not have a significant impact on Florida’s population of about 1.3 million alligators.

Trappers, including those who work on Disney property, receive a $30 stipend from FWC for each nuisance alligator captured. Many sell the alligators’ meat and hide to make additional money. FWC has granted Walt Disney World special permits that allow the company to contact a trapper directly to remove nuisance alligators. FWC must later be notified of the number and sizes of alligators captured. Under Disney’s Targeted Harvest Area permits, which were originally issued in 2009, two designated trappers are allowed to remove up to 500 alligators through April 2023.

“The FWC takes public safety seriously and uses Targeted Harvest Area (THA) permits as part of a comprehensive effort to achieve alligator management goals,” said FWC spokesperson Tammy Sapp. “THA permits allow a managing authority to work directly with a designated FWC-contracted nuisance alligator trapper, making the process for removing nuisance alligators more proactive and streamlined. THA permits, which have been in use for two decades, define the area’s boundaries, effective dates and how many alligators can be removed.”

Days after Graves’ death, Disney began installing fences and piles of large rocks along many of the resort’s lakes to prevent visitors from getting close to the water. The company also posted signs warning guests about alligators and snakes and urging them not to feed wildlife, while reinforcing employee training regarding wildlife sightings. A sculpture of a lighthouse was installed near the Grand Floridian Resort beach in 2017 to spread awareness of the Lane Thomas Foundation , a nonprofit organization established by Graves’ parents to support families of children in need of organ transplants.

The Ultimate Disney Yacht Club Review + Insider Tips

February 8, 2021 //  by  Kimberly Jones //   2 Comments

Disney’s Yacht Club opened back on November 5, 1990. Its sister location is the Beach Club located right next to it. The Yacht Club is a beautifully themed resort with nautical and beach themes. We are going to tell you everything you need to know about this wonderful resort in our Ultimate Disney Yacht Club Review + Insider Tips!

There are so many great aspects to this resort such as its location, pools, transportation options, and amenities. If you are thinking about staying at the Yacht Club, read on to find out if this resort is a good fit for you!

Where Is The Yacht Club At Disney Located?

One of the best reasons to stay at Disney’s Yacht Club is the fantastic location! This resort is within walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios . There are also several different transportation options to all of the parks, Disney Springs , and the water parks .

The Yacht Club is directly next to the Beach Club, and they share the pool. Now you not only have access to all of the Yacht Club’s restaurants and amenities, but you also have access to the Beach Club’s!

The Yacht and Beach Club are right across the water from Disney’s Boardwalk Resort . It is a short walk away to enjoy everything the Boardwalk has to offer! There are some fun restaurants, bars, and shops to explore there.

The Yacht Club is also very close to the Swan and Dolphin Hotels. There is a pathway to take you right over to these hotels for some extra fun as well!

Not only are there other resorts within walking distance of the Yacht Club, but there are also resorts that are a quick Skyliner trip away! Taking the Skyliner from Epcot’s International Gateway, you can visit Disney’s Riviera Resort, Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop Century , and Art of Animation!

Disney’s Yacht Club is in a very prime location with quick access to two of the parks and multiple resorts!

Checking in to The Yacht Club At Disney

Checking into the Yacht Club is extremely easy, and it doesn’t even require you to visit the front desk! The day of your reservation, you can check in to the resort from the My Disney Experience app . The app will let you know when your room is ready and what your room number will be! If you have magic bands or even your phone , you can head straight to your room and unlock the door.

Of course, you can always go the old school route and check-in at the front desk. All the cast members at Disney’s Yacht Club are extremely friendly and accommodating! A great tip to keep in mind is you can always see if there are any upgrades available for your room. We were able to get a free upgrade from a standard view to a water view!

The lobby is also absolutely amazing here. It has a very adventurous and nautical theme to it. You can find everything you need right in this area, such as the restaurant, lounge, bell services, and the front desk.

Right outside the backside of the lobby, there is a boardwalk that will lead you to the boat transportation to Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

view of the lobby at Yacht Club Resort

Transportation Options From The Yacht Club

We love all of the transportation options the Yacht Club has to offer, and we’re sure you will too! As mentioned before, there are walking paths to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. The Epcot walking path is very short and will get you to the International Gateway in about 5 – 10 minutes. The entrance at International Gateway is on the back side of Epcot by World Showcase .

The walking path to Hollywood Studios is a little bit longer than the Epcot one. This one can take 20 minutes or more. However, there is boat transportation to Hollywood Studios if you don’t want to walk! You can find boat transportation right behind the lobby that will take you to Epcot or Hollywood Studios.

If you don’t want to walk or take the boat to Hollywood Studios, you can always take the Skyliner! There is a Skyliner location right outside International Gateway that will take you first to Disney’s Riviera Resort, and then to the Skyliner central hub at Caribbean Beach Resort. From here you will get off the Skyliner and get in line for a different Skyliner track to take you to Hollywood Studios.

So there are so many options to get to Epcot and Hollywood Studios, but what about the other parks? Disney has bus transportation from the Yacht Club to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Spring, and the water parks.

If you plan on spending a lot of time at either Epcot or Hollywood Studios, the Yacht Club is one of the best resorts to stay at.

Disney Yacht Club Room Review

There are several different room options at the Yacht Club. There is Standard View, Water View, Garden or Woods View, and 2 Bedroom Suites. All of the view rooms also have club level options.

I was able to stay in a Water View room. The room was absolutely delightful! It had a nautical theme to match the rest of the resort, and it was quite spacious. The room had two queen beds and a pull out couch, so it was able to sleep up to 5 guests. We only had 4 guests in our room, but I could imagine the pull out bed might make the room feel a little more cramped.

The room had large closets with space to hang clothes, and a big sink and bathroom area with two sinks. The shower had a sliding glass door, which I prefer over a curtain.

I really liked that this room had wood flooring compared to carpet. It added to the nautical theme very well. The room also had a balcony that looked over the back entrance of the lobby and the water. Overall, the room was very nice, and I thoroughly enjoyed its set up!

Yacht Club rooms average in price anywhere between $400 to over $3000 per night depending on what room you stay in and what time of the year you visit.

Dining Options At The Yacht Club

There are some really great and delicious dining options at the Yacht Club. This resort has two restaurants, two lounges, a quick service restaurant, a restaurant located in between the Yacht and Beach Club, and a pool bar.

The two restaurants at the Yacht Club are Ale & Compass and Yachtsman Steakhouse. Yachtsman Steakhouse is currently temporarily unavailable, but Ale & Compass is open for breakfast and dinner. This restaurant follows the nautical theme with a relaxing atmosphere and some delicious coastal eats.

The Ale & Compass Lounge is located adjacent to the restaurant. Here, you can order off the lounge menu and even the restaurant menu. This lounge can fill up quickly at night though, so make sure to grab a seat early if you want to eat or drink here.

The other lounge, Crew’s Cup Lounge,  is right next to Yachtsman Steakhouse and is also temporarily unavailable. We hope that the lounge and restaurant will open soon!

The quick service location shares a spot with the Yacht Club’s gift shop. When you enter the Market at Ale & Compass, on the right is the gift shop and on the left is the quick service restaurant. They serve coffee, sandwiches, pastries, and more. This is a great place to stop for a quick bite to eat to or from the parks!

Beaches and Cream Soda Shop is the hidden gem of the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts! This restaurant is located in between the two resorts and serves some wonderful food! They are open for lunch and dinner and they serve sandwiches and burgers. My favorite is their Grilled Cheese sandwich, its delicious!

However, save room for the best part of this restaurant. The ice cream! They have shakes, floats, and sundaes! You can’t go wrong with whatever you choose. If you’re feeling really brave though, try the Kitchen Sink sundae. This sundae is meant for 4 or more people, and includes every topping and a whole can of whipped cream! I have attempted it twice, and I still haven’t been able to finish it. Maybe you can!

Hurricane Hanna’s Grill is the pool bar located right next to Stormalong Bay. They have a few food items and some refreshing drinks.

If you’ve tried everything at the Yacht Club and want something different, head over to the Beach Club! Here you can find even more restaurants and tasty eats!

Yachtsman Steakhouse at the Yacht Club Resort

Yacht Club Swimming Pools

The Yacht and Beach Club have hands down the best swimming pools on Disney World property. It’s considered more of a small water park than swimming pools because it’s so large!

Stormalong Bay is 3 acres of refreshing fun! It includes a large sand bottomed pool and a lazy river. There are waterfalls, a volleyball net in the pool, and a water slide.

This water slide is no joke. You climb a large shipwrecked ship all the way to the top and then slide down this long and exciting slide! Stormalong Bay even has a “beach” area with sand to play with! After all that fun, go relax in one of 3 whirlpool spas.

Right by the entrance to the water slide is a small kid play area with a mini water slide. This is a great introduction to the big slide for nervous kids!

Don’t need all the excitement of Stormalong Bay? There are also 3 leisure pools at the Yacht and Beach Club for guests to enjoy.

If you plan on staying at the Yacht Club, you must plan a resort day into your schedule! Make some time for this awesome mini water park and relax away from the parks! You won’t regret it.

Amenities At The Yacht Club Resort

There are so many fun amenities and things to do at Disney’s Yacht Club. When it comes to activities, there are fishing excursions, a tennis court, a sand volleyball court, jogging trails, motorized boat rentals, an arcade, and a fitness center. Just ask the front desk if you’d like to book a fishing excursion or rent a boat to go out on the water!

The Yacht Club even has a spa! Ship Shape Massage Salon is a full service spa that can do massages, facials, hairstyling, and nails. We all need a relaxing day every once and awhile! Why not enjoy the spa on your day off from the parks?

The resort also has campfire activities, movies under the stars, and a Pirate Adventure Cruise (which is unfortunately temporarily unavailable at the moment). The Yacht Club is within walking distance of the Fantasia Gardens & Fairways Miniature Golf. Go show off your mini golf skills at this adorably themed course!

This resort really has a lot of fun things for you and your family to enjoy! You will definitely want to take a day away from the parks to enjoy this amazing resort!

Overall Thoughts On Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

We at Disney Trippers absolutely love Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. The whole place is incredibly peaceful and beautiful. It has the perfect mix of being family friendly and adult friendly with lots of things to do. So whether you’re traveling with a bunch of adults or your kids, everyone will enjoy it!

Most everything is in super close distance to this resort. The only time you will have to take the bus is to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Spring, or the water parks. The other parks and some resorts are really easy to get to, making this a top notch location for a resort.

If you have a day off from the parks, make sure to enjoy all of the amenities the Yacht Club has to offer. You could spend a whole day just having fun at the resort! You definitely don’t want to miss out on this place!

We stayed at the Disney Yacht Club the last time we were at DW. We loved it. The staff was outstanding. It was an adult family vacation, and due to different work schedules, some family members had to fly in at different times. The staff accommodated each one and made them feel as if they already knew them. We loved the location as we could walk to different locations. We tried the Kitchen Sink sundae, but couldn’t finish it. We sure had fun trying. We actually took one day to enjoy the resort and were not disappointed. We spent time in the swimming pool, which was amazing with the sand bottom. Lunch was an delicious lobster roll and we finished off at the steakhouse. I would certainly recommend this resort to all who are considering a trip to Disney World.

I don't know any specifics about Disney, but alligators are not aggressive creatures, despite what you see on Crocodile Hunter. They are lurkers, not attackers like sharks can be. Also I would think that a gator of a dangerous size would be quickly removed, as the liability would be enormous. Avoid letting your pet frog or hamster play on the beach, but I am sure your kids are fine.

Earning My Ears

If you want to see a gator you better plan on someplace other than Disney... with all those sharks(aka "lawyers") swimming around in courtrooms, how long do you think Disney would be open... so many posts have to do with I heard this from someone who heard that... some very interesting urban legends are born this way... I do recommend sunscreen though, and do drink plenty of fluids... real hot!

<font color=teal>Take the Poly, it's fabulous!<br>

Disney is very aware of the critters in their waterways. They will close a fresh water area if they even suspect a gator is lurking. Gators are very passive generally. There is plenty of food for them down there that they don't need to eat their way through a paddle boat to get you. I've also never seen them in the area by the S&D. I' sure they're there now and then, but they aren't aggressive. Anne

I've been thinking back to our visits and can't remember ever seeing an Alligator - I've got NO doubts that they are there, but in all the times we've rented Water Mice at the Polynesian and 'driven' all the way over to FW I've never seen a pair of Beady Eyes... Just goes to show ya how 'stealthy' Alligators are!

Hi, On our last Trip, Thanksgiving,1999, we saw an alligator in the Canal? undeer the bridge to the parking lot at the Yacht club. We told the parking attendant and he told us that they usually don't bother with catching any alligator unles it is 4 feet +. This one must have met the criteria because when we returned a short while later, 3 men were on the embankment hauling the alligator out of the water. That same trip, we saw one sunning itself in the grass as we went by on the train in MK. We'll be at WDW next month and will keep our eyes open for any more gators. We weren't frightened, but they certainly get your atention. Janetd

First, I don't believe your kids are going to be able to play on the beach or retrieve water near the S/D. If I am recalling correctly, there is no beach area there--the lake is walled off from the ground that is elevated above it. The only beach area at the Epcot reosrts is at YC/BC. You seldom actually see an alligator in the lakes serving the resorts and even rarer at Crescent Lake where the Epcot resorts are. I have never heard of any problems with the paddle boats. Where you are far more likely to see gators is in or near the ponds and lakes that are at the golf courses and there you can actually see large ones.

there is a beach area at the dolphin. As a matter of fact my kids were playing by the water and someone told them to stay out of the water as there is a high bacteria count or something to that matter and they could get sick. Not sure if he knew what he was talking about but we didn't take any chances

We were at CS the first year it openned and saw an alligator in the water there. It's the water where you paddle around in. I took a picture. It was about 3 feet long. Animal control was taking it out. They mentioned that they knew there were a couple of more, but hadn't caught them yet. Afterall, the alligators were probably there before the resort. Last year my co-worker saw one in the pond behind her building at the All Star Movies resort. I hadn't heard of anyone getting bite, so I guess it's OK. I personally would not let my grandson go too close to the water on the beach. I had a hard enough time being surprised by the armadillos at the All Star Music last summer. It was nothing to come out of our room in the Jazz building and have 2 or 3 walking around on the side walks. I'm sorry, but they are creapy looking things (no offense to the armadillo lovers out there).

Why did the chicken cross the road??? To prove to the armadillo that it could be done! You guys forgot the armadillos. We used to see zillions of them at Ft. Wilderness and along the sides of the roads, particularly after dusk.

We saw a Alligator this past summer in the river near Port Orleans Riverside Food Court. When we asked on of the cast members if this was a common thing to see we were told that Alligators are common but Disney has a crew that deals with them and if they are spotted by the cast then they call and a team comes to remove them. IMHO I thought it was perfect for the theme of the riverside and my kids were very excited to see a gator that was not in a zoo Matt ----------------------------------------- PO-R '01 Poly '00 CBR '92

Skyhog... the "urban legend" that I saw in February was 8-10 feet long. We were at SOG and it was in one of the ponds near the resort. Not only did I see it but I also have it on video tape. One of the groundskeepers told us that they usually remove the alligators when they are about 4 feet long. This alligator was most definitely longer than that.

The alligator population seems to have grown quite a bit since I was a kid. Several years back I was taking a boat trip (NOT at WDW) and saw fishermen in waders fishing in the water. There were gators around them, very close by. It was creepy to me. The ranger on our boat trip was unconcerned and said that at sundown anything in the river was gator food, but they didn't eat at midday. Also I've heard that gators don't eat when the weather is cold. Last week my teenaged sons & labrador retriever fell out of their fishing boat into a canal. There were gator warnings posted all around & they were in the water for a few minutes (ds lost his glasses, got a rope tangled around his feet, dear dog took off swimming down the canal by herself etc. etc.) but they made it without encountering any gators. Years ago WDW did have swimming in the lake. The beach was close to the campground. Someone must have wised up and closed it down because its not there anymore. When I was a kid I used to waterski and swim in fresh water lakes, but I certainly don't allow my kids to do that. In our county when a gator is removed it is killed. I've heard that they have a strong instinct to return back to the area. When my kids were small I never let them get too close to a lake.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort: Everything You Need To Know

posted by Charmaine Cortes on June 10, 2023 // last updated on June 10, 2023

Disney has over 30 beautiful resorts to choose from when you’re planning your getaway. Each Disney resort has its own theme and aesthetic, making your trip more magical than staying at another nearby hotel.

As you browse the Disney resort options, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort needs to be on your list. This magnificent resort is in a great location with fantastic dining options, transportation to and from the parks, and plenty of entertainment choices.

If you’re considering staying on Disney property during your next vacation to Orlando, Florida , here’s everything you need to know about Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Overview of the Yacht Club

Checking in and out of the resort, resort dining, water recreation, other recreational activities, transportation to and from the parks, final thoughts.

disney yacht club alligator

Similar to Disney’s Beach Club Resort , the Yacht Club captures everything you love about New England. The decor and aesthetic of the resort make you feel like you’re in a prominent yacht club in New England rather than Central Florida.

The Yacht Club Resort joined in the middle with the Beach Club and opened its doors to visitors for the first time in November of 1990. The color scheme throughout the resort is shades of pastel blue and plenty of nautical decor touches.

The prime location on Crescent Lake puts you close to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, so if you’re planning on hitting one or both of those parks, you can’t beat staying at this resort.

disney yacht club alligator

Learning about how the check-in and out process work where you’ll be staying can make you feel more prepared for your vacation. Staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is similar to most hotels around the United States with their check-in and out process.

Your room will likely not be ready for you until 3 PM on your arrival date. The slightly later check-in time gives the staff plenty of time to ensure the room is in the best condition for your stay. You can request an earlier check-in time when completing your booking, but that doesn’t guarantee you’ll get it.

As for checking out, the time is 11 AM. You can request a late check-out, but the latest they offer guests is noon, so it’s not a huge difference but still an option if you’re interested.

When booking at this Disney resort, you’ll notice that there are several room types you can choose from. They have standard rooms with a typical amount of space up to oversized suites built for those seeking elegance.

Here’s a quick look at the different room types.

Standard View

A standard room at the Yacht Club has either one king-size bed or two queens. It has a small chair and table, bathroom, TV, and mini-fridge for you to use. These rooms are their most basic, and the views show you the parking lot, woods, or parking garage, depending on your room’s floor level.

The standard view rooms might only offer you the most basic lodging in the resort, but they’re still beautifully decorated and will give you a comfortable place to sleep after spending all day at the parks or one of the pools. This room sleeps up to four people comfortably.

Garden View

disney yacht club alligator

You can opt for a garden view if you want a prettier view than the standard view rooms. You’ll get to see the beautifully landscaped courtyards that scatter the property. You’ll enjoy all the same bed options and other amenities that the standard view rooms offer.

You might have guessed this already, but the water view is the same as the standard and garden view rooms, except that your window or balcony will overlook the lake or one of the beautiful pools on the property.

Two-Bedroom Suite

disney yacht club alligator

A two-bedroom suite is an excellent option if you need a little more room. These rooms have many of the features of the standard rooms, like TVs, bathrooms, and mini-fridges.

Each two-bedroom suite has two king beds and one queen sleeper sofa. They all face the lake or Stormalong bag and can sleep six people easily.

Admiral Suite

The Admiral suite is another option that can sleep up to six people. It comes with a primary bedroom with a king-sized bed and another room with two queen beds.

The bathroom is more spacious, and the water views are stunning. You’ll have a decent-sized sitting area, mini-fridge, desk area, and two TVs.

Captain’s Deck Suite

For a suite that can sleep six people comfortably, you can consider the Captain’s Deck Suite. This suite features one king bed and two queen beds in separate rooms.

You’ll have all the space with a two-bedroom suite and all the features. The main difference is the decor and only one Captain’s Deck Suite.

Commodore VIP Suite

The Commodore VIP Suite is very similar to the Captain’s Deck Suite. You’ll have the same type and amount of beds, allowing you to sleep six people comfortably.

What sets this beautiful suite apart from the others previously mentioned is that you’ll have a balcony with stunning water views.

Presidential Suite

The Presidential Suite is the second largest in the Yacht Club Resort. There are two queen beds and one king bed in this suite. Everything is mostly the same from the Commodore VIP Suite, but there’s even more space for you and your other travel buddies.

They have some two-bedroom suites that connect if you want more than six people to travel with you.

Turret Suite

Finally, the most oversized suite at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is their Turret Suite. This suite sleeps up to eight comfortably, with one king bed, two queen beds, and one sleeper sofa that can sleep two adults.

This suite’s size is generous and spacious, and if you’re traveling with kids, you’ll love how much space your family will have to move around and enjoy the different rooms of this suite.

disney yacht club alligator

It’s safe to say you’ll never go hungry when you stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Whether you’re interested in quick service spots, market-style, or a sit-down restaurant, you’ll have a lot of options here.

Ale & Compass Restaurant

disney yacht club alligator

One of the most popular sit-down restaurants at the Yacht Club Resort is Ale & Compass . This restaurant features delicious seafood you would see when traveling up the east coast of the United States and into New England.

People usually get lobster and eat shrimp and corn chowder here. The best part is they’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Market at Ale & Compass

Near the Ale & Compass Restaurant and Lounge is their market. The Market at Ale & Compass is the perfect spot to stop for fast food and beverages to enjoy in your room or on the go.

They have breakfast items, sandwiches, coffee, and Disney souvenirs that you might want to browse before you head home.

Ale & Compass Lounge

disney yacht club alligator

Ale & Compass has a lounge worth looking at for a relaxing spot with great libations. They have snacks that are great appetizers before your dinner reservation or whenever you’re feeling peckish as you sip delicious cocktails.

They have a lot of higher-end liquor, and people rave about the pomegranate margarita.

Yachtsman Steakhouse

disney yacht club alligator

When you want a more excellent table service restaurant for dinner, you must try Yachtsman Steakhouse . This warm and inviting steakhouse has nautical decor like the rest of the resort and features everything you would want in a steakhouse.

There are plenty of cuts of steaks, veggies, and other side dishes to go around. There are even kid-friendly options if you’re traveling with kids. Most people recommend getting a reservation with this restaurant, but you can do that by calling the restaurant.

Cape May Cafe

disney yacht club alligator

Do you love a breakfast buffet? Then you need to try Cape May Cafe. This buffet-style restaurant features all your favorite breakfast items in the morning, like fruit, egg dishes, bacon, toast, and the world-famous Mickey and Minnie-shaped waffles.

Their dinner buffet is excellent, with plenty of shellfish and even snow crab legs for an extra fee. They also have a delicious oven-roasted chicken dish that’s perfect when you’re not in the mood for seafood.

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

disney yacht club alligator

When you want classic beach food, you must visit the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop . This spot serves plenty of ice cream, sundaes, and other sweets that people of all ages will love. You can also grab fast food when you’re not feasting on their specialty ice creams.

They have several burgers and hot dogs that are perfect for kids and picky eaters. They also have many soups, sandwiches, and other classic American menu items.

Martha’s Vineyard

disney yacht club alligator

As a resort based on a New England yacht club, it’s no surprise that Martha’s Vineyard is one of the best dining options here. This restaurant features signature cocktails, a lounge, imported wines, beers, and plenty of delicious seafood.

Don’t worry, though. The restaurant also has other menu items besides seafood. You’ll love having a nice meal with your family here.

Crew’s Cup Lounge

Crew’s Cup Lounge is a great option when you’re looking for a great place to lounge with an alcoholic beverage after a long day. They have a fantastic selection of beer, wine, and handcrafted cocktails to enjoy.

They have a smaller menu with small plates that pair well with all their drinks. The hours vary here, so you’ll want to check online or call before arriving.

Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill

disney yacht club alligator

For the adults who love to enjoy a good frozen or tropical cocktail while they lounge in the lazy river, wade in the pool, or relax in a lounge chair, Hurricane Hanna’s Waterside Bar and Grill is the spot.

This bar doesn’t offer food, but the frozen piña coladas are unmatched.

When you’re not riding all the rides and seeing the parades at the parks, you can soak up the sun at one of the several water recreation areas at the resort.

Stormalong Bay

Stormalong Bay is a shared space between the Yacht Club and Beach Club. This three-acre water recreation area is fun for everyone. There are pools, slides, and sandy shores for you to relax in the Florida sun.

You’ll love the lifesize shipwreck area, the lazy river, the hot tubs, and lounging on the elevated training deck.

Shipwreck Pool

The Shipwreck pool is for the youngest of travelers. This pool is for tiny tots because they can easily wade into the water and play without a high risk of drowning. There are lifeguards on duty at this pool and a mini water slide for the bravest of the kids.

Admiral Pool

The Admiral Pool is in a peaceful garden. It’s the best for adults because it’s a quieter area of the resort, and most adults come here to escape the children running around and playing.

There aren’t lifeguards on duty here, so you’re not likely to see any children, but you’ll still want to be cautious.

Cabana Rentals

If you feel like treating yourself, you can book a cabana for the day or a few hours. You’ll need to pre-book this service, but you won’t regret it.

When you book a cabana, you’ll enjoy amenities and services like:

  • A cast member serving you at the cabana
  • Food and drink service
  • A ceiling fan to keep you cool
  • Comfortable furniture, TV
  • A charging outlet
  • A fruit basket
  • A mini fridge
  • Fresh towels

Hanging out by the pool isn’t the only recreational activity that the Yacht Club offers guests. You’ll find volleyball and tennis courts surrounding the resort, a spa, and a fitness center too. Here are a few other recreational activities you might enjoy while staying at this Disney resort.

Movie Under the Stars

There’s nothing like watching a great Disney movie under the twinkling stars. The Yacht Club Resort shows movies at nighttime at their Solarium and on their lawn by the volleyball courts.

Movie showings don’t happen every night, and the movies constantly change. If you’re interested in this activity, you can ask your front desk staff for a schedule.

Motorized Boat Rentals

You can rent boats and frolic around Crescent Lake. You can rent them for 30-minute intervals, and you don’t need a reservation to rent them. While you don’t technically need one, you might want to consider renting in advance to secure the time slot you prefer.

Fantasia Gardens Mini Golf

If you’re willing to walk a short distance, you can play this 18-hole mini golf course . There are five different themes throughout the course that resemble some of your favorite Disney characters.

Disney is known for their spectacular service, so you know the amenities here are excellent. Some of the amenities included at the resort are:

  • Safes in every room for small valuables
  • ATMs for quick cash
  • Turn-down service
  • Housekeeping
  • Complimentary WiFi
  • Voicemail service
  • Valet parking
  • Laundry and dry cleaning services

One of the best reasons to stay at one of the Disney resorts is the free transportation to and from the parks they offer guests.

You’re more than welcome to drive your car to the park, but parking can get stressful. The Yacht Club Resort has three transportation options for guests to ensure a stress-free trip.

Bus Service

Disney’s bus service is most people’s go-to transportation method when staying at one of the several Disney resorts. There are plenty of buses that go from all the different resorts and to all the parks.

They run about an hour before the parks open until an hour after the parks close to ensure everyone can safely make it back to their resort. It’s easy to look up the bus route and schedule online, or you can ask the staff at the front desk of your hotel for assistance if needed.

The Skyliner is a great way to travel to and from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as long as you’re not afraid of heights. These beautiful gondolas in the sky have different themes based on your favorite Disney movies and characters.

It’s not technically at the resort, but it’s a short walk down the boardwalk and still an excellent transportation option when traveling to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Much like the buses, it operates an hour before the parks open until an hour after the parks close.

Last but not least, we have the ferry boat . Like the Skyliner, this service is not available at every Disney resort, and it doesn’t go to all the parks either. It can take you to and from Hollywood Studios and EPCOT. They run every 15 to 30 minutes for the majority of the day.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is among one of the most popular on their property. Its central location, great amenities, dining options, and atmosphere make for the perfect vacation to Walt Disney World .

Whether traveling with your partner, best friend, group of people, or family, this beautiful New England yacht club-inspired resort is the perfect place to stay for a magical Disney vacation.

Staying at the Disney World Yacht Club Resort

Yacht clubs may typically be for the rich and famous, but you don’t need to be the owner of a swanky ship to stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Overlooking Crescent Lake towards Disney’s BoardWalk , it’s the more dignified stay of the Disney Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, perfect for an adult Disney trip , kid-friendly perks like the best Disney hotel pool, and a convenient location in the middle of the Epcot & Hollywood Studios Resort Area .

With quaint grey buildings trimmed in white and a lighthouse guiding Friendship Boats to the marina, this deluxe resort is styled like a stately yacht club along New England’s coastline. Only a short walk from the International Gateway entrance at Epcot with a covetable spot on the Disney Skyliner route, it’s an ideal stay for families hoping to maximize their time at Hollywood Studios or adults stumbling back to the room after a day spent drinking around the world .

Disney World Yacht Club Rooms & Suites

The Walt Disney World Yacht Club Resort touts a 4.5 on TripAdvisor. As with other deluxe resorts at Disney World, it has a variety of room types to choose from including standard rooms, Disney club-level rooms , and even a 2-bedroom suite. If you’re picky about the view and don’t want to get stuck with uninspired scenes of the resort’s rooftops, choose from a relaxing garden-view or water-view room instead.

A far cry from the outdated, on-the-nose guestrooms of the past, rooms here use more contemporary elements like dark woods, strong lines, crisp linens, and nautical touches for a more refined take on classic coastal style. With sky-chart-inspired curtains, a mirror reminiscent of a porthole, and a feature wall with menswear flair, a stay here feels like stepping into the captain’s quarters on a posh mega yacht.

In general, all standard rooms and suites at the Yacht Club come with the following amenities: a hairdryer, iron, ironing board, mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, in-room safe, telephone with voicemail, and free Wi-Fi.

Disney Yacht Club Resort Prices

Ready to book your reservation at the Walt Disney World Yacht Club Resort? You’re probably wondering how much it’ll cost you to stay there. With sophisticated rooms, an unbeatable location, and arguably the best hotel pool at Disney World, a night here doesn’t come cheap.

In fact, even if you stay in the most basic room of the bunch during the slowest time of year, you’ll still end up dropping at least $500 a night. So, if you’re traveling on a shoestring, one of Disney’s All-Star Resorts might be more your speed. Or save on your hotel stay without skimping on little Disney luxuries, stay at one of the charming Disney Port Orleans Resorts or another moderate resort instead.

If you’re ready to treat you and your loved ones to a stay at Disney’s Yacht Club, room rates will depend on a few different things like what time of year you’re traveling, how many people are staying, and what you want to see when you look out your window. For example, while watching the Christmas fireworks from your water-view room on the Regatta Club level will run you almost $1,400, staying during the slow season in a room with a less-than-picturesque view of the roof will net you around $900 in savings .

With rates spanning from the mid-$500s during the slow season to the mid-to-high $900s, basic standard-view rooms without access to the Regatta Club are the most affordable option. Contrastingly, if your clan is large or you’re looking to splurge, prices for a 2-bedroom suite with keys to the club-level lounge start in the low $2,000s and top out in the high $3,000s.

White Yacht Club Hotel

Below are some examples of room rate ranges for stays in 2023 , arranged by starting price, for each of the room types available at the Yacht Club (expect slightly lower rates in 2022 ) :

  • Standard View Room: $542 to $986
  • King Bed: $549 to $991
  • Garden or Woods View Room: $586 to $1,034
  • Water View Room: $684 to $1,118
  • Standard View – Club Level: $796 to $1,378
  • Garden View – Club Level: $828 to $1,398
  • Water View – Club Level: $939 to $1,566
  • 2 Bedroom Suite: $2,182 to $3,877

Disney Yacht Club Hotel Amenities

Although room rates at Disney’s Yacht Club are on the spendy side, as a deluxe resort , you’ll have access to some of the best hotel amenities on Disney property. Unlike staying at Disney’s Art of Animation or one of the other value resorts, there are more than enough things to do at the Yacht Club at Walt Disney World to keep you entertained all vacation long.

Disney Yacht Club Dining

Just like the elegant yacht clubs that dot the New England coast and the rest of the United States, Disney World’s Yacht Club Resort offers an array of tempting dining options. As this is one of the more grown-up resorts at Walt Disney World, don’t expect any seafaring-themed Disney dinner shows or character dining starring Donald Duck in his iconic sailor outfit here. Instead, you’ll find everything from a grab-and-go market to a prime steakhouse.

Best of all, with the Beach Club right next door and Disney’s BoardWalk only a short stroll away, you’re minutes away from a smorgasbord of other Disney World restaurants that are perfect for pleasing even the pickiest of eaters.

Ale & Compass Lounge

Attached to the table-service restaurant of the same name, the Ale & Compass Lounge is a distinguished spot to grab a drink after a long day exploring the parks. With its dark blue paneling, plush furniture, and tin ceiling accents, you almost feel as if you’re in a classy cruise ship lounge. Stop by for elevated appetizers like Lobster and Corn Chowder and a Bacon and Vermont Cheddar Burger; stay for the old-school and updated craft cocktails .

Ale & Compass Restaurant

With both a to-go menu and a handsome, expansive dining room, the Disney Ale and Compass Restaurant is a welcome stop whether fueling up for a day of adventures or dropping anchor after hours in the parks. Serving up both breakfast and dinner, this table-service restaurant styled after an inviting lighthouse is a beacon for hungry guests both day and night.

In the morning, tuck into seaside breakfast favorites like Shrimp and White Cheddar Grits, Crab Cake Benedict, or a Maine Lobster Roll. At dinnertime, dig into a selection of comfort food classics with a coastal twist like New England Seafood Pot Pie and Short Rib “French Dip” Flatbread.

Crew’s Cup Lounge

With its warm wood beams, Craftsman-style elements, and a convenient location next door to the Yachtsman Steakhouse, Disney’s Crew’s Cup Lounge is a cozy place for a drink before heading to dinner or on your way back to the room. While you could just come for a glass of wine or a boozy coffee cocktail, this hotel bar also offers an extensive menu with dishes from the neighboring steakhouse, making this an excellent alternative if you can’t score a reservation.

The Market at Ale & Compass

Serving up breakfast, lunch, and dinner – as well as a substantial selection of Disney souvenirs, snacks, and sundries – The Market at Ale & Compass is the place to go for a fast meal at Disney’s Yacht Club. This quick-service restaurant serves up pretty standard AM fare such as Mickey Waffles and breakfast sandwiches in the morning before transitioning to light bites like sandwiches and salads in the afternoons and evenings.

Yachtsman Steakhouse

Steak on plate with fries on the side

No yacht club in the Hamptons is complete without a ritzy steakhouse slinging surf-and-turf favorites. Warm and welcoming with seaworthy touches like knotty pine and porthole-inspired windows, the Yachtsman Steakhouse feels more laidback than stuffy, although a dress code is required (no flip-flops here!).

Cut into carnivorous classics like the 28-oz Porterhouse for Two or the Roasted Prime Rib or stick to fresh-from-the-sea fare like Seafood Cioppino or a Chilled Admiral’s Tower for Two overflowing with lobster, crab, mussels, and more. End your meal on a sweet note with desserts like Yachtsman’s Chocolate Cake or Crème Brûlée.

Disney Yacht Club Pools

Like to get in the water as much as you like to get on the water? Well, you’ve come to the right place. One of the resorts with the best hotel pools at Disney World , Yacht Club is home to the only waterpark at a Walt Disney World hotel: Stormalong Bay. Sprawling across 3 glorious acres on the shores of Crescent Lake, this aquatic paradise is the perfect spot for a beach day – no trip to the coast necessary.

Outdoor pool surrounded by windmills

Splash down the 230-foot-long waterslide, let your cares drain away along the lazy river or in one of the whirlpool spas, sink your toes into the sand-bottomed pool, or even discover the ruins of the resort’s resident shipwreck. Yachting is all about luxury, so splurge on a full-service cabana for you and your crew (reservations required).

As you can imagine, Stormalong Bay can get pretty busy during the day. To skip the crowds, try visiting one of the 3 different leisure pools shared by Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort.

Other Recreation at Disney’s Yacht Club

The WDW Yacht Club Resort may be the Disney hotel with the best pool, but there are plenty of other recreational activities to keep you busy all vacation long. While you don’t need the keys to your own Sunseeker to gain entrance to Disney’s Yacht Club hotel, you can rent some out by the half-hour for everything from a 2-person Sea Raycer to a 10-person pontoon boat from the resort marina – one of our top things to do outside the theme parks . Or for other on-the-water fun, go on a guided fishing excursion or pirate adventure cruise instead.

Rather keep both feet on dry land? The youngest resort guests will love watching some of their favorite Disney flicks during Movies Under the Stars or toasting marshmallows around the campfire, while grown-ups can keep their exercise routine intact on the jogging path or during an intense match on the volleyball or tennis courts.

Getting cabin fever? Take some time to explore the resort’s incomparable location. The Disney World Yacht and Beach Club is just a short walk from the tasty restaurants, entertaining nightlife, and turn-of-the-century appeal of Disney’s BoardWalk complex. Or for wholesome thrills the whole family can enjoy, work on your swing at Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course across the street from the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resorts.

Disney Yacht Club Merchandise Locations

For those searching for that perfect souvenir, set a course for The Market at Ale & Compass. This one-stop shop is a convenient spot to pick up forgotten essentials, Disney merchandise, and provisions for a day in the parks. As the location of the resort’s quick-service restaurant, table-service restaurant, and to-go outlet, it’s also an ideal pitstop before cruising to the parks or back to your room.

Disney Yacht Club FAQs

Want to know more about Disney’s Yacht Club Resort? Read on for answers to some commonly asked questions.

Is Disney Yacht Club kid-friendly?

Yes! Despite the more grown-up vibe, Disney’s Yacht Club can be a great place to stay for families with children of all ages. While the guestrooms aren’t exactly overflowing with pixie dust, you’ll still find plenty of kid-friendly activities to keep little ones feeling the magic, from splashing around in Stormalong Bay to watching Disney Movies Under the Stars. And if there aren’t enough options to please the picky eaters in your life at the Ale & Compass, there definitely will be at Beaches & Cream Soda Shop next door at Disney’s Beach Club.

When was Disney Yacht Club refurbished?

Rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort were renovated rather recently in 2017, a welcome update from the previous guestrooms’ dated design touches like nautical headboards and white-painted furniture.

Can you see fireworks from Disney Yacht Club?

Yup! While you won’t be able to watch the entire show, thanks to its covetable location in the heart of the Epcot and Hollywood Studios Resort Area, you will be able to catch some of the higher fireworks from both nighttime spectaculars. In fact, aside from the beach at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort , it’s also one of our top spots to watch the Disney World fireworks outside the parks . Just head to the resort’s lighthouse on Crescent Lake. If you’re lucky, you may even be able to catch glimpses of the show from the comfort of your hotel room.

Can you walk from Yacht Club to Hollywood Studios?

Yes! If you’d rather not take the bus, Friendship Boat, or Disney Skyliner , there is a walking path that connects the Epcot Resort Area to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Roughly 1-mile long or around a 15 to 20-minute walk, the walkway runs from between Disney’s BoardWalk Inn and the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort to the main entrance to Hollywood Studios.

How long is the walk to Epcot?

Walking to the International Gateway entrance at Epcot from Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will only take around 10 to 15 minutes depending on your pace. If you’re not in a hurry, you can also enjoy a leisurely 20-minute ride from the hotel to the park on one of the Friendship Boats .

How long is the bus ride from Yacht Club to Magic Kingdom? Animal Kingdom?

Taking the Disney bus from the Yacht Club to Magic Kingdom typically takes around 20 minutes, as does the bus to Animal Kingdom . If you’ve really got some time on your hands and are looking to take the scenic route, you can also take the Monorail from the front of Epcot to Magic Kingdom Park.

However, as you will need to walk all the way through World Showcase and Future World just to reach the Monorail, this hourlong route definitely isn’t for the faint of heart or those short on time. Keep in mind that you will need a park ticket (and currently, also a park reservation) to get to the Epcot Monorail from Disney’s Yacht Club.

Well, crew, that concludes our cruise around Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. With its adult ambiance, convenient location, classy style, delicious restaurants, and a boatload of recreational activities (including the best hotel pool at Disney World), it’s an excellent choice for everyone from families with children (especially older kids and teens) to couples.

While you’re there, make the most of your time at the resort’s two closest parks with our 1-day plans for Epcot and Hollywood Studios . Or since you indulged in a deluxe resort, why not save some cash with our discounted Walt Disney World tickets .

Have you ever stayed at Disney’s Yacht Club? Which room type or restaurant is your favorite? Is the Regatta Club worth it?  Where is the best place to watch the Epcot fireworks ? Let us know in the comments!

Ultimate Guide to the Best Rooms at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort

disney yacht club alligator

Staying at a Disney World deluxe resort usually comes with beautiful theming, nice rooms, and perks like Extended Evening Hours . One might argue, though, that one of the most beautiful deluxe resorts in Disney World is Disney’s Yacht Club .

disney yacht club alligator

This deluxe resort is a popular choice for guests wanting easy access to EPCOT or Hollywood Studios, which are both just a walk or boat ride away, or because of the epic pool, Stormalong Bay, which is almost like its own waterpark. It’s easy to decide why guests stay here, but, which rooms are the best ?

The Yacht Club is a five-story deluxe resort and is themed around the refinement of a New England yachting club. The resort has a soft gray exterior accented by striking red and white striped awnings and the interior is lined with warm woods, nautical instruments, and a giant globe as the lobby centerpiece. The resort faces Crescent Lake, is close neighbors with Beach Club Resort, and has the best resort pool on property. You’ve picked a beautiful resort to spend your Disney vacation, but let’s look at the best rooms!

disney yacht club alligator

The Yacht Club rooms are elegant and stately and might be a bit “executive” and bland when compared to some of its counterparts. Keeping with the nautical theme, you’ll find warm woods, navy blue and beige contrasted against crisp white. But one of the favorite elements in the room are the navy curtain which features fictional Disney constellations and a bit of whimsy to this otherwise rather corporate feeling room.

disney yacht club alligator

There are 635 guest rooms and 21 suites at the Yacht Club. The rooms are typically 381 square feet and feature two queen-size beds, a daybed, and a desk with chairs. There are some different categories to choose from: Standard View, Garden View, Water View, and Lagoon or Pool View .

For an extra cost, there are also 70 club level or concierge rooms on the fifth floor Regatta Club. Those these rooms are basically the same as standard rooms, they do offer access to additional amenities, including:

  • An exclusive check-in area
  • A concierge cast members to assist with personal vacation needs
  • Nightly turndown service
  • Access to a club lounge stocked with complimentary food and beverages

disney yacht club alligator

4th Floor Rooms

The top floor is typically reserved for the Club level rooms, but the next best thing without that concierge price tag is the fourth floor. These rooms provide better views (no matter what you’re direction you’re looking), but particularly if you have a Pool View where lower level rooms would just give you views of the back of pool lounge chairs.

disney yacht club alligator

Gazebo View

You won’t find “Gazebo View” listed in the options, but rooms ending –48, –50, –52, –54, and –63, as well as odd-numbered room –67 through –97 over look the gazebo which make for a serene view. And you even be in for a show if one of the Disney’s Fairytale Weddings occurs there during your stay (no invitation required!).

disney yacht club alligator

Corner Rooms

Rooms that fall on the corner of buildings sometimes come with a little extra elbow room or even an extra window. For that chance to snag not just one views, but two look at these options, rooms ending in: -001, -009, -114, -122, -027, -043,  -065, -155, -163, -164, -201, -209, -210.

disney yacht club alligator

If you’re looking to be closer to EPCOT, Stormalong Bay, and the Beach Club, ask for rooms ending in -190 through -241. If you’re looking for rooms closer to the Swan and Dolphin and Hollywood Studios, ask for rooms ending in -001 to -054.

disney yacht club alligator
