With yachting still on the rise – sales of megayachts were up 40% according to the most recent 2016 wealth report by Knight Frank – we’ve compiled a list below of the new and upcoming marinas around the world that every megayacht owner, captain or traveler who charters can’t miss.

Miami – Island Gardens Deep Harbour

Island Gardens is a next generation mixed-use development, home to a superyacht marina that today accommodates up to 50 of the world’s largest yachts. Dubai – Dubai Marina Yacht Club

With slips for over 567 yachts, Dubai Marina Yacht Club is the largest marina in the Middle East. Those moored at the 5 Gold Anchor Marina have access to a members-only clubhouse, a dedicated concierge and a series of sea and land rallies and social events organized exclusively for berth holders. The marina is also right next to the famed Palm Jumeirah Hotel and surrounded by The Dubai Opera, Emirates Golf Club and plenty of gourmet restaurants and shopping.

Barcelona – OneOcean Port Vell

Originally built for the 1992 Olympic Games and perfectly positioned in the heart of Barcelona, OneOcean Port Vell is a 148-berth luxury facility and the ultimate destination for yachts up to 623 feet. The marina grants easy access for yacht owners to soak up this historic city, from visiting the Gaudi monuments scattered throughout the city to eating authentic, traditional Catalan and Spanish cuisine.

Tivat, Montenegro – Porto Montenegro

Named 2015’s Superyacht Marina of the Year by The Yacht Harbour Association, Porto Montenegro boasts 450 berths, including 128 for superyachts, 24-hour yacht assistance from a multi-lingual marina team and tax and duty-free fuel stations. Porto Montenegro’s Yacht Club is a hub of sporting and social activity, featuring multiple restaurants, an infinity-edge swimming pool and an outdoor terrace and bar, plus a fitness center, tennis courts and a squadron of racing yachts. The marina’s real estate collection consists of six completed properties totaling 176 luxury apartments and an additional 51 at the Regent Hotel, making Porto Montenegro a true home away from home.

Tuscany – Porto Viareggio

Already home to one of the most important Carnival celebrations in Italy, this seaside resort will also soon be home to the inaugural Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous in May, 2017. As the southernmost point in Versilia, Viareggio was the only outlet onto the Lucca Sea for centuries, and now offers restaurants, nightlife and architecture to match. Porto Viareggio has space for 560 boats up to 70 feet in length in over 500,000 square feet of water, so there’s plenty of room to spare for visitors to this new international event dedicated to high-end products of Italy’s famed nautical industry.

Anguilla – Altamer

Anguilla’s Altamer resort in Shoal Bay West is home to three spectacular beachside villas and considered by many to be the Caribbean’s finest address. The resort will receive the island’s first megayacht marina with 30 percent of its berths designed to accept yachts stretching between 30 feet and 200 feet. The new facility is slated to include a 164-unit resort, in addition to duty-free retail shops and a restaurant promenade.

St. Kitts – Christophe Harbour

Created by the developer of Kiawah Island, Charles Pinckney “Buddy” Darby III, The Marina at Christophe Harbour was built with the discerning yachtsman in mind, featuring 250 state-of-the-art berths – 50 of which will be able to accommodate the yachts up to 250 feet. A protected entrance, safe inner harbor and a prime location between Antigua and St. Maarten in the heart of the Eastern Caribbean charter and cruising grounds make Christophe Harbour a prime destination marina.

Rome – Roma Marina Yachting

The arrival of Roma Marina Yachting in October 2015 transformed this historic port into one of the world’s most captivating megayacht destinations near a city that has witnessed 20 centuries of history. On behalf of the management and staff at Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens, an IGY Marinas megayacht and superyacht marina, we would like to welcome you to Miami.

Welcoming vessels up to 550’ (167.7m) and tucked inside the Miami Causeway between downtown Miami and world-famed Miami Beach, Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens provides guests with access to South Florida’s most prestigious events, world-renowned festivals, and the widest variety of cuisines from all over the globe. Overlooking the marina basin with the Miami skyline as a backdrop, the on-site restaurant, The Deck, offers a private and exclusive venue for parties and gatherings.

IGY’s newest marina addition, Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens, is the backdrop to Miami’s most exquisite outdoor restaurant and lounge. It is the perfect environment for guests to wine, dine and dance outdoors.

The Deck at Island Gardens, Miami’s newest chic outdoor lounge, offers a perfect environment for Miami’s elite to wine, dine and dance outdoors. Guests are welcome to arrive by land or sea, and can sit comfortably at full-size dining tables or waterfront cabana lounges. We offer stunning picturesque views of Downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay, one of the most signature sunset views South Miami has to offer.

During the week, home to many corporate functions and private events and from Friday to Sunday guests can experience and reminisce the lifestyles from the various Ports of Call from Ibiza to Porto Cervo, that make up the global yachting community, welcoming Miami as the newest destination in North America for superyachts.

Arrival Information Details

Advanced reservations are strongly recommended at the Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens.  Berthing is not guaranteed without a confirmed reservation.  We ask that you provide advanced notice, when feasible, of your approximate arrival time so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience to you.

Please Note: Captains and his/her assignee must check-in/check-out with the marina office for each stay unless otherwise arranged with marina management.

When feasible, we request an estimated time of arrival 24hr in advance so we can be fully prepared for your arrival and minimize any inconvenience.

Upon arrival contact the marina office on VHF Channel 71 to obtain directions to the slip assignment.  A skilled dock attendant will report to the slip to assist with docking, line handling, and connections.  Once comfortably settled, we ask that you visit our marina office to check-in.  The staff will answer any questions you have.

Upon departure, we request you contact the marina office 1-2 hours prior to departure to ensure all items are in order.  A receipt can be provided at the marina office or emailed upon request to the email address provided at the time of check-in.  If all items are in order, please hail the marina office on VHF Channel 71 if you would like assistance with disconnection and lines.

Early Check-in / Late Check-out

If a slip is occupied after 2:00 pm on the day of your scheduled departure, an additional night’s dockage will be charged to your account.

We will do our absolute best to accommodate your requests whenever possible.  In most cases, if your slip is available prior to 2:00 pm on the day of your arrival, or after 1:00 pm on the day of your departure, we will allow you to remain in the slip at no additional charge.  Prior arrangements must be made with the marina office for early arrival or delayed departure in order to avoid unnecessary charges.

Temporary Slips

In the event an early check-in and/or late check-out is unable to be accommodated in your currently slip, we will try to accommodate by making another slip available until such time your slip is available or you are ready to depart the marina.

In the event a temporary slip is made available to you, and you do not relocate the vessel, the marina reserves the right to charge you two times (2x’s) the original daily rate for each night you occupy the temporary slip.

This is necessary as at times, the marina operates at full occupancy and failure to relocate the vessel could negatively affect other guests.

Cancellation Policy

Please note: Cancellation policies are subject to change. Please refer to your reservation confirmation or contact the marina office direct for confirmation of cancellation policy. Cancellation requests must be submitted directly to the marina. Any cancellation requests received through the IGY Marinas website are not considered proper cancellation.

Customs & Immigration Office

A Customs & Immigration Office is located near the marina, however, transportation is highly suggested and can be arranged prior to arrival.

Those reaching the port of entry after closing hours are required to raise a quarantine flag and report in the next morning.

In order to clear in and out of the Immigration Office, you will need the following:

• Vessel registration documents
• Vessel clearance documentation from the last port of call
• Copy of passenger/crew list (form I-418)
• Passports of all crew and guests
• Copy of the Ship’s Registry
• Vessel entrance or clearance statement on CPB Form 1300

If you are arriving into Miami from a United States domestic location, including the mainland United States, the US Virgin Islands, or Puerto Rico, and have a US Flag and crew, no special immigration procedures are required.

Yacht Haven Grande Miami at Island Gardens Marina Rules

To make your stay with us more enjoyable, the following set of guidelines should be followed. These are merely suggested rules of etiquette and regulations to make the Marina and its facilities more enjoyable for all customers.

• Do not leave garbage on the docks or common areas to be picked up.  Garbage should be bagged and tied and then properly placed in designated receptacles, or be placed in the garbage truck, not loosely scattered or abandoned.
• Oils and fuels should be disposed of properly and not in Marina trash cans.  Please ask for assistance when disposing of oils, fuels, or chemicals. Your concern for the environment helps.
• Try not to introduce any effluents into the Marina lagoon.  Use holding tanks if possible.
• Do not attempt to turn on your own water and electricity. Please have a dock attendant provide the service.  Using pliers or screwdrivers will damage the equipment and you will be charged.  It is suggested that you read meters (if applicable) along with our dock attendant to ensure accuracy.
• Anyone caught taking water from another yacht’s tap shall be responsible for the entire water cost of the metered yacht. Please use your own water.
• Keep power cords and water hoses in a neat and orderly fashion so that no one will trip in the dark or while carrying objects.
• Please wash sails on lawn areas where water outlets and drying spaces are available, or do it aboard your yacht.
• When marking anchor chains with paint, use paper or cardboard beneath your chain to keep wet paint off the docks and other customers’ shoes.
• When cleaning dinghies, make sure you rinse debris and growth off of the docks when finished.
• Lock the vessel when leaving it unattended.
• Lock your dinghies and outboard at night.
• Try to keep excessive noise down after 10:00 pm.
• Do not utilize power sanders or grinders while completing minor vessel repairs.
• Barbecue and cooking on the docks is prohibited.  Barbecue and cooking should be done on board in suitable equipment and self contained.  Any other way is dangerous and frowned upon.  Kindly clean up after yourself when finished. Charcoal ash and debris are not to be disposed of into the lagoon.
• If bright deck lights or spot lights are to be used at night, avoid pointing them at nearby boats, especially down or into their cabins.
• Pets need to be kept on a leash or in an acceptable carrying case. Please be sure to clean up after your pets. Owners will be responsible for any damages caused by unattended pets.

Beautifully located deep water marina in Miami, Florida. It is located on the causeway on the way to South Beach and next to the cruise ship terminal. Well protected and very calm waters make this an ideal marina for larger vessels.

If you are looking to rent a yacht, Dandeana may just be the one. Our most intimate yacht, she is the flagship of the FantaSea fleet, accommodating up to 100 guests with a sleek, contemporary, custom-built tri-level design.

Dandeana has European-design accents, and is 110 feet long with a width of 24 feet. The luxurious Main Salon has modern design accents, complete with sofas, lounge furniture and lighting effects as well as a wall-mounted plasma screen welcoming your guests in style. The second floor Bar and Party Deck are equipped with an additional wall-mounted plasma screen for your DVD presentation, and large sliding glass windows for spectacular views and intimate dining and dancing under a sparkling crystal chandelier. Level three, the open Sky Deck, offers the best views of the marina and is perfect for catching every minute of your event on the tranquil waters of Marina del Rey. Members of this yacht club have access to a long list of quality comfort and convenient amenities. Along with 149 slips with various power amps available, the marina also provides floating and fixed concrete docks and free parking for those who have a slip plus their guests.

The secured gated club offers plenty of activities for its members, such as a swimming pool, spa, salon, fitness center, on-site restaurant, Tiki bar, and lounge. Other dining choices near the marina include waterfront dining at Hula Bay Club, Salt Shack on the Bay, Cru Cellars, and Farmacy Vegan Kitchen.

2. The Pointe Marina at Harbour Island

The Pointe Marina provides state-of-the-art floating and fixed docks for vessels of all sizes. Just step off your boat to enjoy the ambiance of Harbour Island and downtown Tampa, where you are close to some of the city’s finest cultural, dining, entertainment, and shopping venues.

Pro Tip: On Harbour Island, enjoy a light meal or a sumptuous breakfast at Fast Jack’s Breakfast, Coffee, Gelato, and Sandwich Cafe.

3. Marjorie Park Marina

Marjorie Park Yacht Basin offers 51 slips located in a cozy basin on Davis Islands near downtown Tampa. The marina is open year-round, offering diesel and gasoline fuel, a pump-out station, boat launch and ramp service, floating docks, restrooms, and showers. Boaters also have access to monthly or transient slips and as a convenience, do not require a deposit for a reservation.

Located just minutes from the main hub of Davis Islands, you’ll have access to a variety of restaurants, convenience stores, banks, laundry facilities, and a medical center.

4. Tampa Convention Center Marina

Situated in Seddon Channel, the Tampa Convention Center Marina offers two floating docks so boaters can tie up and take advantage of hourly docking, slips equipped with and without power, and overnight docking with a two-night minimum.

The marina provides easy access and short distances to downtown points of interest, such as the Florida Aquarium, scheduled events at Amalie Arena, museums, and Channelside.

5. PORT 32 Tampa

PORT 32 Tampa has a little bit of everything you’ll need for an exceptional boating experience. The facility features wet slips that allow easy docking, repairs, 30- and 50-amp power, in-water repairs, and short-term transient dockage.

Customers of PORT 32 can store their boats and have them ready to go whenever they choose to head out to the Bay or Gulf. With one call, Port 32’s team will get your boat ready for an outing by fueling it, stocking ice and drinks, and placing it in the water prior to your arrival.

Once you return from a day exploring the waters, our team will again step in and prepare the boat for storage in its weatherproof space after washing it and flushing the engine.

6. Marriott Tampa Water Street Marina

Sunrise Yachts, a luxury yacht building company which is based in Turkey, has been made a main sponsor of next year’s 2011 Moscow International Boat Show (MIBS). The four-day Russian yacht show event is currently scheduled to run from April 14-17 at the Moscow’s Crocus exhibition centre.

MIBS is organised by the ITE Group and it is one of Russia’s leading boat shows and is an internationally recognised superyacht event. The show covering everything from small parts and accessories to large superyacht with over 9,000 people and 178 exhibitors attended the last year show.

The Paolo Scanu-designed Sunrise 45 yacht is an ocean-going cruising yacht that was released in 2009 to much acclaim at this was the group’s first-ever model.

Sunrise Yachts was founded in 2007 by the German entrepreneur Herbert P Baum along with the French-British yacht builder Guillaume Roché. The luxury yacht group is based in Antalya, Turkey and utilises a 10,000sq m shipyard facility. Sunrise has two sheds measuring 100m (328ft) x 16m (53ft), as well as a 70m (230ft) x 16m (53ft) fully acclimatized paint shed that can accommodate new-build and refit projects up to 65m (213ft) in length and 1,200 tonnes displacement.

Along each side of the yacht-building facility, space is available for long-term sub-contractors with the latest equipment and logistics capabilities, along with air-conditioned storage, ventilation and extraction plants. The shipyard is organized as an “assembler,” based loosely on the car industry’s model, with a small, yet powerful project management team charged with running all the in-house long-term sub-contractors.

Marina boat owners shocked as city seeks 30% fee hikes

After a proposal to build a yacht harbor in front of Marina Green was squashed by grassroots organizers, an effort is underway to raise the fees for berthing a vessel at the boatyard. The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department says the move will help make its operations there financially sustainable.

The department notified boat owners this week that it would like to bump berthing fees by a whopping 31.4% by summer 2025. If the fee increases are approved, it would affect about 600 vessels, the department said.

"It's to make the marina self-sufficient," department spokesperson Tamara Aparton told The Standard. "We can't subsidize it. We think our funding should go toward recreation, not for subsidizing the marina."

Keeping a boat at the marina currently costs $6,000 annually for the smallest, 25-foot slip and up to $30,600 for the largest, 100-foot slip.

The new proposal comes after the city tried to use part of a $160 million settlement with PG&E to redesign the entire harbor. The funds were intended to clean up pollution in the bay caused by a former coal gasification plant.

The department had proposed extending the harbor and adding a new breakwater, arguing that the project would have added funds to its coffers by allowing it to cut back on expensive dredging and bring in more customers with the additional docks. The plan was put forward as the city contends with a massive budget deficit that has led to orders by Mayor London Breed to cut department costs.

An analysis by city staff suggested that additional boats could make the marina profitable to the tune of $1 million a year. But the project was spiked in late January after an outcry from residents who argued that building anything in front of Marina Green would ruin a vital community space.

Members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors' Land Use and Transportation Committee agreed with opponents and passed an ordinance blocking the plans from moving forward. The committee vote was unanimous, and the ordinance was ultimately approved by the full board and signed by Breed.

Now, the Recreation and Park Department is looking for other ways to keep the boatyard afloat.

The proposal for the fee increases will be heard at the Budget and Finance Committee on Wednesday.

"We understand that any increase in fees may impact you, and we assure you that these adjustments have been carefully considered in light of our operational needs and commitments to maintaining high-quality facilities and services," the he Recreation and Park Department said in a message to owners.

Joe Bravo, who has been boating at the harbor since the 1970s and currently docks a 35-foot sailboat there, said he understands that the city needs to find funding somewhere. But he worries that the cost increases could end up driving boat owners elsewhere, noting that the current rates are already expensive.

"You’re going to lose them," Bravo said. "It's too easy to go somewhere else. There are plenty of places to go to."

A California philanthropist allegedly threatened to kill a dock worker during a heated argument from his multimillion-dollar yacht, before dropping his pants and making several threatening gestures to the employee.

Ajay Thakore, a local entrepreneur in the San Diego area, attempted to dock his Lamborghini yacht at the private Marriot Marquis Marina to pick up one of his employees but was stopped by worker Joseph Holt on Sunday.

“I told him respectfully that he couldn’t be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat,” Holt told CBS8. “But yeah, it completely went the other way.”

Thakore, who goes by his social media name, Ace Rogers, was riding on his rare $4.5 million Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 yacht at the time of the daytime dispute.

Holt claimed Thakore became hostile as soon as he was told off.

“It escalated immediately. It was 0 to 100 immediately,” the 21-year-old worker added.

Thakore, the CEO of medical advertising firm Doctor Multimedia, allegedly began to threaten Holt’s life as the luxury speedboat drove away from the docks.

“I will kill you, you know I will kill you, I will kill,” Thakore repeatedly yells, according to the video posted to YouTube.

Besides threatening to take Holt’s life, Thakore claimed to have the power to get the dock worker fired, ripping on the type of job he had.

“I’m a minimum wage worker, he was commenting on that, on my status just because of my job,” Holt said. “He was saying I’m nobody, I’m nothing, I work a silly job.”

“He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it,” he added.

During the heated discussion, Thakore allegedly pulled out his wallet and began throwing $100 bills at Holt and into the water, according to the outlet.

Holt said he tried to control himself during the incident and only gave Thakore the middle finger.

“I really didn’t know how to process it. I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird,” he said.

The dock hand blasted Thakore for his actions, especially in a public setting where he stripped nude and showed himself off.

“He had dropped his pants and started to make gestures to everybody watching and me. You can’t act that way in public. It’s just not OK. Especially threatening my life, at the very least. There were women and children there. That’s the most important part,” Holt said.

Thakore claims his outburst started because of a misunderstanding and was sorry for the people who saw it.

“The interaction that occurred yesterday was regrettable. What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange,” Thakore’s public relations team said in a statement, obtained by KFMB.

Port of San Diego Harbor Police were called to the Seaforth Boat rental dock for “a possible intoxicated vessel operator” but arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore and his boat had left.

The employee who attempted to board the extravagant boat defended his boss’s actions, saying Holt was hostile toward Thakore, and the businessman was only defending his team.

“As I went to kindly step onto the Yacht, I was impeded by two members that work for Seaforth Boat Rental,” Thakore’s employee Jason said on a post to the CEO’s Instagram account.

Jason said he was told to “stand back” the first time he went to step on the boat, and claimed he was forearmed during his second attempt to board the yacht.

“They physically got in my way, the situation became fairly tense, there was a lot of screaming back and forth, extremely confrontational, I didn’t fully understand protocol, as I was going to step onto the boat.”

“As all of this happened, my boss flipped and he’s very protective of me, his fiancée, of his employees.” Jason added. “It was a confusing situation that became very tense and very confrontational.”

Thakore captioned the post saying “there are two sides to every story and it’s easy to paint a picture with edited video clips from cell phones.”

“My employee Jason was being restricted, restrained, and threatened while trying to board my yacht. As a leader, I defend my own fiercely with everything I have, and I will never apologize for that,” the caption read.

Man bitten by crocodile in Florida Everglades after capsizing sailboat, falling in water

H OMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) — A 68-year-old man fell of a sailboat at a marina in the Florida Everglades and was bitten by a crocodile as he tried to swim to shore, authorities said.

The rare crocodile bite occurred Sunday afternoon at the Flamingo Marina in Everglades National Park and left the man, who was visiting the park, with a laceration to one leg that required medical attention, the National Park Service said.

The Everglades is one of the largest wetlands in the world and according to the National Wildlife Foundation, is the only place in the world where American crocodiles and American alligators co-exist. There are about 1.8 million alligators in Florida but only 2,000 crocodiles.

The man capsized his sailboat in the marina basin and was trying to swim to land with his boat when witnesses saw him go under the water, officials said. Park rangers responded and treated the cut on the man’s leg before he was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

No further information was released on the man's condition.

It's rare for an American crocodile to bite a human, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The only other documented case involving a crocodile biting a human happened in 2014, Lauren Claerbout, a spokeswoman for the agency, said in an email.

It's also rare for alligators to bite humans , Claerbout said. In Florida, there are about eight unprovoked alligators bites to humans annually.

Crocodiles are a federally threatened species. They have narrower, more triangular heads and often prefer coastal, brackish and salt water, while alligators are darker, have broader snouts and are typically found in freshwater,

Rangers and park biologists were investigating the attack and monitoring the suspected crocodile.

30-foot boat catches fire near Miami Beach marina; no reported injuries

MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - There was fire on the water in Miami Beach after a boat burst into flames.

Video posted on social media showed smoke rising from the burning vessel near a marina, off Alton Road and Third Street, Saturday afternoon.

Officials with Miami Beach Fire Rescue said the 30-foot boat was having some work done when the fire broke out in the main area.

Crews doused the flames with foam and quickly got the fire under control.

No injuries were reported.

Man bitten by crocodile after falling off boat at Florida Everglades marina

HOMESTEAD, Fla. — A man visiting the Florida Everglades is recovering after being bitten by a crocodile after falling off a boat, officials said.

The attack occurred Sunday afternoon at the  Flamingo Marina  in Everglades National Park, according to a National Park Service news release.

The 68-year-old man capsized his sailboat in the marina basin and was attempting to swim to shore with his boat when witnesses saw him go under the water, officials said. Park rangers responded and treated a laceration on the man’s leg. Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue transported him to a hospital in stable condition. There was no further information released on his condition.

Rangers and park biologists were investigating and monitoring the suspected crocodile.
