The Yacht Week offers DJs a chance to win ‘The Best Gig Ever’

the yacht week dj competition

The Yacht Week is offering up-and-coming DJs a chance to win ‘the best gig ever’, living on a luxury yacht for seven days, sailing around the stunning islands of Croatia. As resident DJs on the original ‘floating festival’, two winners will DJ in clubs, beach bars, a historic fort, and even out at sea in a floating DJ booth (where the likes of Claptone, Jamie Jones, and Adam Beyer have graced the decks – The Yacht Week last summer also saw high-calibre DJ sets from Joris Voorn, Lee Foss, Lilly Palmer, Bart Skils, Juliet Fox, Richy Ahmed, Manda Moor, Mason Maynard, Layton Giordani and others).

The competition winners will perform to an international flotilla of like-minded people gathered to enjoy seven days in paradise. Flights (from within Europe), food and accommodation are all covered, and if the winners make an impression they could become regular fixtures on The Yacht Week resident DJ lineups across the world, including gigs in Croatia, Greece, British Virgin Islands, Tahiti, Turkey and more. DJs from any country can enter – entrants just need to answer some questions about themselves and upload a 60-minute mix. The judges will interview their shortlist and two DJs will win a gig like no other this summer. Submissions close on 3rd March with the winners announced late March. All entry details and T & Cs can be found at https://linktr.ee/theyachtweek (DJ Competition Application).

The Yacht Week has been carefully redefining what a festival can be, creating bespoke travel experiences with music at their heart. They’ve collaborated with the likes of Drumcode, Hot Creations, Ultra Festival, Hideout Festival and more, making DJs and music an integral part of their unique mix of sailing, parties, activities and exploration.

the yacht week dj competition

For the first time last year, The Yacht Week ran a competition to discover new resident DJ talent and were amazed at the quality of the entrants. The team quickly realised that this was an opportunity to provide a platform for up-and-coming DJs from all backgrounds to perform at internationally recognised events. It was also a way to broaden the musical offering for guests on The Yacht Week and to access and promote a diverse pool of talented young artists. The competition last year uncovered some diamonds behind the decks and so this year, the competition is getting bigger and better.

Dutch house DJ, Toph won the debut competition last year and said of his experience, “For me, The Yacht Week was the sickest opportunity to show my mixing skills at the most insane parties and to the most amazing crowds. Winning the resident DJ competition brought me so much closer to my big goals as a DJ and I created memories I never want to let go. My recommendation? If you’re the new kid on the block and have something unique as a DJ, start creating that mix, take your shot at this competition, and you could become that big artist nobody wants to miss.”

Alongside the incredible week as resident DJs, the two competition winners will also receive a pair of Pioneer HDJ-X7 headphones courtesy of Pioneer DJ as well as a DIGI headphones bag and a Slingbag courtesy of leading DJ luggage brand, UDG . All they will need is a USB full of tunes and they will have everything they need to embark on the DJ trip-of-a-lifetime.

Up-and-coming DJs have a chance to win a week-long residency unlike any other and join The Yacht Week for the ‘best gig ever’.

DJ Competition

By yacht week.

Posted on 16th November 2021

Imagine… you’ve just put your USB’s into the CDJ’s. Scrolling through your playlists, you find that perfect start-of-the-set track. Loading it up, you glance out at the scene in front of you. Groups of people from all over the world are bobbing about on floaties between the line of yachts stretched out in front of you, tryna grab the best spot to dance the afternoon away to the soundtrack you select. Smiling to yourself, you hit play and the madness begins…

the yacht week dj competition

Sounds out of this world right? That is where you are gloriously wrong.

We love our resident DJs and are exceptionally lucky to work with some of the most talented up and coming artists from all over the world. In 2022 we are expanding the team and for the first time EVER, it is our pleasure to announce The Yacht Week’s Resident DJ Competition!

What is up for grabs?

We will be selecting two talented artists to join us as The Yacht Week’s resident DJs in Croatia from the 11-18th of June, 2022. As our resident Djs for the week, it will be your job to bring the vibes and keep everyone dancing until the break of dawn at all events. You will be working next to some of the best in the European scene as well as with our own world-class team of superstars.

the yacht week dj competition

What is the vibe?

DJing at our events requires DJs to be able to read the crowd and know when to get the party pumping, but also when to play to the moment and warm up the room for an epic night all round. On our Croatia route, we embrace everything including; House (of all kinds), Disco, Hip Hop, RnB, Dancehall, Reggaeton, Moombah and anything you can sing along to.

Who selects the winners?

Winners will be selected by a panel of judges including:

Thomas Morrey - Day 8 Head of Entertainment

In addition to over a decade of experience as a DJ and promoter, Day 8’s resident Australian heads up bookings and everything music-related at The Yacht Week & The Ski Week.

Nina Zrinski - Day 8 Global Account Manager

As one of The Yacht Week’s foremost operations/media/content/partnerships gurus, Nina’s outstanding knowledge of music (surpassing most of our residents) means that not many people ‘get’ The Yacht Week more than this Croatian superstar!

Jack Igglesden - TYW DJ Manager

Having spent the better part of the last few years performing in France and Portugal as a DJ, Jack joining the team last season truly was a sign from Poseidon. Quickly becoming a crowd favourite in Croatia and Greece during 2021, Jack is a seriously experienced performer in his own right and the go to Manager of our resident artists in Croatia.

How do I enter?

Follow the instructions on this page and fill out the application by the 26th of November, 2021.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

the yacht week dj competition

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

the yacht week dj competition

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

the yacht week dj competition

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

the yacht week dj competition

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

the yacht week dj competition

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

the yacht week dj competition

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

the yacht week dj competition

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
