Dynamic Dolly, Type 3

• Dolly style allows bow of boats with a curled gunwale to hang from a specifically shaped handle fitting. Snug-fitting edge trim atop the handle fitting protects the gunwale gelcoat. Type is suitable for Sunfish, Laser 2, JY 15, and more.
• Boat-specific tube and sling lengths provide a custom fit for each boat, enabling a balanced handle load and easy maneuvering.
• All joint fittings are through-bolted and designed for increased torque stability.
• Strong, 3” non-stretch, polyester sling provides wrap-around boat support.
• Adjustable, flexible V-fittings on bow and tongue tubes provide boat support forward of the sling and prevent boat and aluminum contact.
• Eyelets on sling and handle fittings facilitate securing boat to dolly in storage, on trailers or in racks. Tie-down with the handle fitting eyelet helps prevent slippage on steep ramps.
• Easy dolly breakdown using the snap buttons on wheel shaft and tongue tubes, as well as wing nuts on axle tube cross fitting.
• Pneumatic, non-corrosive, 16” x 4” wheels can be secured on wheel shaft with provided screws for added security. For soft sand conditions, tire pressure can be reduced to increase tire footprint.

The Cunningham or downhaul controls the luff tension of the sail. This is the ¼" 12' Red line. It goes through the grommet on the sail down through the outside bullseyes and to the outer clam cleats.

I am selling my well-maintained Force 5 sailboat and trailer. It’s like a slightly larger Laser. It’s in great condition and I’ll be sad to part with it, but I’m upgrading to a catamaran.

Highlights Include:

More Details - Condition: This sailboat is used but in good condition, and ready to hit the water. The hull is solid, and there are no major repairs or damages. It has been stored properly, on it’s dolly at the beach and under a custom cover ensuring its longevity. - Sails: The boat comes with three sails, including a rarely used main sail and a rarely used “short rig” sail, allowing for versatility in different wind conditions. - Running Rigging: The running rigging is in excellent shape, with most lines in good or like-new condition. I recently replaced the outhaul line on the boom. - Trailer: A sturdy trailer is included in the sale. The trailer is in decent condition and features custom bunks specifically designed for the Force 5 sailboat, ensuring secure and convenient hauling. 2inch ball needed. - Upgrades: The daggerboard, rudder, and daggerboard trunk have been reinforced by the previous owner, enhancing the durability. - Extras: As a bonus, a few spare spars, custom cover, and repaired launching dolly are included.

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
• LOA: Length overall in feet
• Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

The FORCE 5 was designed in 1972 by Fred Scott and Jack Evans of AMF Alcort. By 1974 it was their second best selling boat. Over 12,000 boats were built up until 1989 when AMF Alcort changed hands several times in a short period of time. In 1993, Weeks Yacht Yard became the new builders of the FORCE 5.
