About Altena Yachting

Since the foundation in 1969, Altena Yachting has expanded to an impressive and reliable company, that builds yachts with a distribution all over the world. We build high quality motor yachts in the range from 12 metre till 20 metres and chine as well as multichine. These yachts are all luxury motor yachts, diversify of inland navigation (CE-C), coast cruisers (CE-B) till seaworthy yachts.

Altena Yachting has for everyone who has an interest for motor yachts, a yacht they will enjou. The cruisers Excel and Family (CE-B) for the rivers, canal cruisers (CE-C) for the French canals, the Blue Water Trawler (CE-A) for the sea and for wild waters. Altena Yachting is a company who stands for quality, reliability, flexibility and has a optimum service. We are able to build a yacht in order, which comes up to your wishes and demands. Also we are able to rebuild your yacht completely or repair and renovate. The position of our shipyard, which is established at the river "Bergse Maas" (freeway A27), also has an unique pier for 20 yachts. Since the foundation in 1969, Altena Yachting developed a reliable international company, that builds yachts with a distribution all over the world. With a wide range of models and designs. Luxury motoryachts, vary from inland waterways (CE-C) and coastal cruisers (CE-B), up to seaworthy yachts (CE-A). Altena can meet every demand, with ships for the rivers, the French canals and for the sea and the rougher water. All work is done under our own management. From the design up until the building, the interior workmanship, the equipment and all (motor)technical aspects.

Gerard Pols started Altena Yachting as a hobby. He was very interested at working with diesel engines. Through working with diesel engines he got interested in the construction of shipbuilding. He decided to build his own yacht. The garden was his yard and his wife Jo and their children where his co-workers. It had to become a 9,5 mtr. long cruiser and all the free hours he had, he spend building the cruiser so he could realize his dream. Before the launching of the ship took place, a buyer came and the Cruiser was sold. By selling this ship he had the initial capital for his own company and Altena Yachting became a reality. Altena Yacht Brokers is part of the Yacht yard Altena Yachting , a company with more than fifty years of experience in building and selling yachts, with a corresponding sales port and winter storage.

Altena Yacht Brokers offers a total service package around the purchase and sale of new and used motor yachts. We would like to accompany customers during the new construction of ships. Used ships can always be visited by appointment.

We assist Sellers during the sales process of a ship, with all related activities: the valuation, the transport, the order of the data for the benefit of the tax authorities, the registration and the final delivery. We assist Buyers in their search for an appropriate ship, the negotiation of the purchase, the accompanying trial and/or inspection, the settlement of the purchase, and also the optionally accommodating in the winter storage or any work on the boat . All work and repairs, including even a complete refit, can be carried out on the premises of Altena Yachting.

In jubilee year, Altena Yachting trawlers keep coming

RAAMSDONKSVEER – Altena Yachting marks its 50th anniversary year by delivering an aluminum, 15m (50ft) semi-displacement trawler for a repeat client who is downsizing from a 24m (78ft) Altena. And in this jubilee year, it is building an 18.6m (61ft) Vripack-designed Altena OC for delivery in 2020.

Half a century of steel and aluminum yacht building at Altena Yachting has left a significant mark. The family-owned yard has to date built more than 800 vessels. In 1969, founder Gerard Pols – then a diesel engine repairman – started his yard by finishing someone else’s 9.5m cruiser. Soon he was building his own. Ten a year, from 8 to 15m (26-49 ft) a year.

Ah, life was a such breeze then. Boat drawings were simply scaled up a tad, if a client wanted a slightly larger boat. These days, Altena Yachting builds 2 or 3 full-custom yachts a year, with chine or multi-chine hulls. All luxury craft, rated for inland, coastal or white-water yachting.

Altena Yachting is one of two dozen or so Dutch builders making premium quality, under-30m (98ft) luxury cruisers and trawlers. Many Altenas come off the boards of house designer Otto Brinksma who is responsible for the yard’s Blue Water Trawler and Coasthopper. Altena has also relied on designers Pieter Beeldsnijder, Theo Werner and the Vripack studio,

“We build everything, also for other shipyards”, says Altena Yachting Director Marcel Pols. “We are always open for cooperative projects.” A good example: the Vripack-designed  Vryburg PB 61, an all-weather roundbilged yacht that is suited for transatlantic crossings launched in 2018. “We also completed one in 2016,” says Pols.

The 18.6m (61ft) Altena OC (open cockpit) he is building now is a Vripack design. The 46-ton displacement yacht will be powered by twin 220HP John Deere diesels. Altena’s Blue Water Trawlers have been a hit from the day in 1994 when the first was launched. By now, it has sold 40, in lengths from 48 to 58 feet (157 to 190ft). A steel displacement yacht designed for coastal waters and open sea, the Blue Water Trawler has a no-nonsense, classic look, a flared bow and comes in single and double-prop versions.

The boat has 5 watertight compartments, including the engine room, fore and aft ship accommodation. The aft-placed owner’s cabin has an en suite bathroom. Forward are a guest cabin, a dinette, bathroom and toilet and galley. There is a deck house steering position and saloon below the flybridge.

New versions of the Vripack-designed Altena 500 and 600 Raised Pilothouse, designed by Vripack, have recently come onto the market

Altena Yachting takes on challenging repair and rebuilding jobs, most notably the transformation of a Dutch fishing cutter into an expedition vessel for the Swish Arctic Project. The San Gottardo ship was given a new wheelhouse, accommodation and a mast with an observation crow’s nest. The ship sails from Spitsbergen.
