75m custom Damen Yachting support vessel delivered and named

The largest support vessel built by Damen Yachting has been delivered and named Abeona . The custom shadow vessel departed the shipyard's Vlissingen site at the end of January and arrived in Gibraltar after successfully completing sea trials.

Formerly known by the project names YS 7512 and Wingman, the vessel has been spotted with the name Abeona. The name comes from the Roman era, when Abeona was the goddess of voyages and departures.

The superyacht which she will be supporting is Y721, or Koru , the yacht reportedly commissioned for Jeff Bezos.

The vessel hit the water in October showing off a grey hull, orange boot stripe and Damen Yachting's signature high forebody and open aft deck, which will be used for storing tenders and toys.

The model has been designed in-house and features a 12.6 metre beam and an impressive volume of 1,900GT, which includes the capacity to store emergency relief support equipment.

Elsewhere, the vessel features a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter and will be equipped with an array of marine gear, as well as additional tenders and toys that aren't carried on board the mothership.

Due for delivery in early 2023, the support vessel has accommodation for a total of 45 people, including crew, guests and other specialist staff. 

Speaking at the beginning of its construction, Damen Yachting sales director Rob Luijendijk said: “At the time of delivery, she will be the 17th yacht support delivered. She will also be [Damen Yachting's] largest to date, which I think continues to show the scalability of the support solution for large superyachts.”

According to BOATPro , YS 7512 marks the eighth-largest support vessel in the world.

127m sailing yacht KORU spotted on sea trials

Jeff Bezos' behemoth 127m (417ft) sailing yacht KORU , previously known as Project Y721, has been spotted on the water early this morning stretching her sea legs on her initial round of trials, designed to test her capabilities, equipment and safety features.

Although much of her build has been shrouded in secrecy, Oceanco 's newest yacht is understood to have an internal volume of 3,300 GT and will undoubtedly offer a wealth of luxurious accommodation and amenities.

While we have scant information about the yacht's interiors, pictures reveal an aft dip pool along with a further Jacuzzi on her flybridge, as well as a variety of alfresco social spaces. The sailing yacht also has a crow's nest attached to her central mast, offering lofty panoramic views for her more adventurous guests.

Built with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure with teak decking, she reportedly takes her design cues from the 93-meter Lürssen sailing yacht EOS , perhaps inspired by the entrepreneur’s visits to this yacht in previous years. 

Showcasing a midnight-blue hull with a distinctive red stripe running along her waterline, KORU’s exterior styling mirrors this traditional schooner style, with an elongated bowsprite and canoe stern. 

Support vessel ABEONA

Sailing yacht KORU will be supported by the 75m (247ft) Damen yacht ABEONA , which was delivered earlier this month.

The 1,900 GT support vessel features exterior and interior styling by the in-house design team at Damen yachting. She sports a striking gray hull contrasted with a sleek orange boot stripe, as well as the yard’s signature utilitarian profile with an open aft deck.

Boasting an impressive beam of 12 meters, yacht ABEONA is capable of carrying up to 45 people, including guests, crew and specialist staff, with ample room for storing large tenders and specialist toys, as well as a certified helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter.

Yacht KORU will replace Oceanco’s own sailing yacht BLACK PEARL for second place in the world's largest sailing yacht rankings behind Nobiskrug's 143m (469ft) sailing yacht A . She is on schedule to be delivered in time for the summer season.

Mysterious streaks of light spotted over California were caused by Chinese space junk plummeting back to Earth, experts said.

Residents from Sacramento to San Diego were dazzled by the light show around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. While speculation ranged from a meteor shower to UFOs, it was ultimately determined that it was nothing more than the remnants of a Chinese spacecraft re-entering the atmosphere.

The heap of space debris was the orbital module of China’s Shenzhou 15 spacecraft, astrophysicist and satellite tracker Jonathan McDowell confirmed in a social media post . 

The Shenzhou 15 has been floating in orbit for more than a year after launching three astronauts to China’s Tiangong space station in Nov. 2022 for a six-month mission, according to Space.com .

Videos obtained by ABC7 showed several fireballs in long streaks of light up the night sky.

The Shenzhou orbital craft, which weighs some 3,300 pounds, provides extra room for astronauts in space, according to Space.com.

It’s not designed to return to Earth safely after its mission The Shenzhou reentry module is built to do that with astronauts on board, the outlet reported.

The module had been predicted to re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere early Tuesday morning, according to ABC7.

Many who saw the spectacle initally believed it may have been a part of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket, which had launched 22 Starlink satellites from the Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara about six hours earlier.

The Dali was less than 30 minutes into its planned 27-day journey when the ship ran into the Francis Scott Key Bridge on Tuesday.

The ship, which was sailing under the Singaporean flag, was on its way to Sri Lanka and was supposed to arrive there on April 22, according to VesselFinder, a ship tracking website.

The Dali, which is nearly 1,000 feet long, left the Baltimore port around 1 a.m. Eastern on Tuesday. The ship had two pilots onboard, according to a statement by its owners, Grace Ocean Investment. There were 22 crew members on board, the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore said in a statement. There were no reports of any injuries, Grace Ocean said.

Before heading off on its voyage, the Dali had returned to the United States from Panama on March 19, harboring in New York. It then arrived on Saturday in Baltimore, where it spent two days in the port.

Maersk, the shipping giant, said in a statement on Tuesday that it had chartered the vessel, which was carrying Maersk cargo. No Maersk crew and personnel were onboard, the statement said, adding that the company was monitoring the investigations being carried out by the authorities and by Synergy Group, the company that was operating the vessel.

“We are horrified by what has happened in Baltimore, and our thoughts are with all of those affected,” the Maersk statement said.

The Dali was built in 2015 by the South Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries. The following year, the ship was involved in a minor incident when it hit a stone wall at the port of Antwerp . The Dali sustained damage at the time, but no one was injured.
