Dubai International Boat Show 2024: Everything you need to know for 30th year
Everything you need to know about the maritime extravaganza.
Dubai's boat show runs from February 28 to March 3 at Dubai Harbour. AFP
The popular Dubai International Boat Show is back for its 30th year.
Luxury yachts synonymous with the lifestyles of the super-rich will be on display in Dubai Harbour from Wednesday until Sunday.
This year's theme is the marine industry's focus on sustainability.
It will shine a spotlight on the Dubai Reef project, announced at Cop28 , which aims to increase sea life eightfold, improve the sustainability of fishermen’s livelihoods and attract eco-tourism.
Where and when is the boat show taking place?
The event runs from Wednesday, February 28 to Sunday, March 3 at Dubai Harbour and is open daily from 3pm to 8pm.
What will be there?
This year's boat show will feature more than 1,000 brands and 200-plus boats from internationally renowned shipyards.
At least 46 boat launches and exhibitors from 55 countries are expected at the high-profile annual industry gathering, organised by Dubai World Trade Centre.
Boats will be on display from globally renowned shipyards including Azimut, Sunseeker Gulf, Gulf Craft, Finnmaster, HP Watermakers, Oceano and Althaus Yachts.
How much does it cost to attend?
A one-day pass costs Dh45 ($12) and an all-day pass, giving you access throughout the event, costs Dh100.
Last year's Dubai International Boat Show featured an array of more than 175 yachts and other luxury vessels worth more than Dh2.5 billion.
“As the Dubai International Boat Show embarks on a new chapter in its illustrious history for its 30th edition this year, the event continues to be a comprehensive platform for premiering innovations and welcoming new maritime companies and brands into the local industry,” said Saeed Mohammed Hareb, secretary general of Dubai Sports Council and senior adviser to the Dubai International Boat Show.
Last word in luxury
The Middle East is currently home to more than 12 per cent of the world’s superyacht fleet, while the market is projected to grow in value from $306 million in 2022 to $481 million by 2028, according to state news agency Wam.
The Mena region was also estimated to be the second-highest fleet-to-billionaire ratio in the world, boat show organisers said.
"Globally, we have seen nautical capitals such as the UAE leverage the full potential of technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, the Internet of Things and big data to strengthen their offerings and set new industry benchmarks,” said Riju George, group director of exhibitions with Dubai World Trade Centre.

“The Dubai International Boat Show has always reflected the innovative spirit of the city that hosts it."
Last year's show featured Dh2.5 billion worth of boats, including 35 superyachts.
While Russia's invasion of Ukraine was fresh in the memory along with the global cost-of living crisis playing havoc with various sectors, industry insiders were quick to tell The National how business was booming.
The large turnout of superyachts was a sign of how Dubai and the UAE was outperforming other areas when it came to hosting international events last year, said one of the show’s organisers.
“This [Dubai] is the new world, this is the nucleus and epicentre of international events right now,” said Trixie LohMirmand, executive vice president of Dubai World Trade Centre, organisers of the exhibition.
“If you’re not here, then you’re not part of what’s happening next in the world.”
The theme of last year's show at Dubai Harbour was technology and innovation, concepts that organisers said were shaping the future of the sector.
The 31st Dubai International Boat Show will return to Dubai Harbour in February 2025.

M/Y Luna: The 115m Superyacht Has Finally Left Dubai
After a gruelling few years of legal battles, the 115m superyacht ‘Luna’ has finally left Dubai. In 2017, the vessel was at the centre of a prolific divorce settlement between Farkhad Akhmedov and his ex-wife Tatiana Akhmedova which would continue over the following years. Luna is now free, and has been heading up the Suez Canal to explore the Mediterranean. SEO
Luna’s Rocky History
Farkhad Akhmedov came into possession of Luna in 2014, after purchasing it from Roman Abramovich for US$360. In 2017, Akhmedov and his wife Tatiana entered into a legal dispute concerning their divorce. At this time, Luna was in Port Rashid, Dubai, for maintenance work. The superyacht was then under court order to remain in its current location whilst resolving the dispute. After many setbacks and obstacles, she is now back where she belongs, on the open water.
Luna’s Design
Luna is an explorer superyacht built by Lloyd Werft at their German shipyard. Her interior features a design by Donald Starkey Designs, whilst Newcruise provided their expertise to create her striking exterior. The vessel has room to accommodate up to 50 guests and 18 crew members over her five decks. Luna’s luxurious facilities include two helipads, an expansive beach club, and a spa with a steam bath, plunge pool and sauna.

Dubai: The new superyacht hub?
With the Mediterranean season coming to a close, a large portion of the fleet will soon embark on the traditional Atlantic crossing for a winter spent in the Caribbean. However, an increasing number of yachts are being tempted to venture in the opposite direction towards the Indian Ocean, with destinations such as the Maldives and Seychelles inviting greater amounts of traffic. This in turn has led to a growing number of vessels taking on an "Arabian repositioning cruise", with Dubai being one of the primary beneficiaries of superyacht stopovers in the area.

Motor Yacht
Launched in 2006 by Platinum Yachts, Dubai is the world’s second largest private yacht, measuring 162 metres. Dubai’s incredible size is disguised by the elegant lines of her steel hull and aluminium superstructure – the work of renowned designer Andrew Winch. Her stunning interior was designed by Platinum Yachts.
The construction of this megayacht began for Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei more than 10 years before the yacht’s launch. The construction, then a joint project between Blohm + Voss and Lurssen shipyards, was halted until 2001 when the hull was acquired by Platinum Yachts for His Highness Sheik Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum. The project, previously named Platinum, Panhandle and Golden Star, was re-named Dubai.
Dubai’s luxurious interior design blends bold colours with fine fabrics and intricately detailed handmade mosaics. A spectacular staircase creates Dubai’s showpiece. Bathed in natural light from the top deck, this dramatic circular staircase features glass steps, which change colour. Dubai’s spacious decks offer a split-level owner’s deck; a large social area including the main lounge with its centrepiece red sofa; numerous VIP and guest suites, and a crew area to accommodate 115 people including crew and guest staff.
With seven decks, Dubai has a wealth of sunbathing areas; a striking mosaic swimming pool and several Jacuzzis. She can accommodate a helicopter of up to 9.5 tonnes and can carry two 10-metre long tenders.
Dubai has a displacement of 9,150 tonnes, yet can reach an impressive 26 knots at maximum speed. She has exceptional worldwide capability with a range of 8,500 miles at 25 knots, powered by four MTU diesel engines.

DUBAI Yacht – World’s Third Biggest $500M Superyacht
The DUBAI yacht is one of the biggest yachts in the world .
The 162-meter vessel was built by Blohm + Voss in Germany and delivered to her owner the prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, in 2006.
DUBAI yacht interior
Since DUBAI took nearly ten years to complete her interior was replanned several times.
Andrew Winch is thought to have influenced the design and the renowned studio Platinum Yachts also worked on DUBAI.
The interior of this gigantic vessel is just as you might expect it.
Luxurious furniture, opulent design, and extravagant features complement the beautiful exterior of DUBAI.
The interior is decorated in bright colors with a great variety of entertainment spaces and salons.
The glass staircase is a central focal point within the yacht and is reminiscent of a cruise ship.
DUBAI can welcome 48 guests in 24 luxurious cabins as well as a sizable crew of 88 members.
There is a nightclub, a spa, a beauty salon, a cinema, and a gym on board DUBAI.
Many rooms are decorated with mosaics or tapestries and only the finest and most expensive fabrics.
Specifications
DUBAI has a length of 162 meters (531.6 ft) making her the fourth largest yacht in the world.
She has a 22-meter (72.2 ft) beam, a 5-meter (16.5 ft) draft, and a total weight of 12,488 tons.
Her four diesel MTU engines allow her to reach top speeds of 25 knots with an average cruising speed of 20 knots.
Her 1,250,000 liter fuel tanks bring her total reach to an impressive 8,500 nautical miles.
The exterior of the DUBAI yacht was developed by the well-known English yacht designer Andrew Winch.
His international design studio took special care with this project, and it is one of their largest to date.
The DUBAI yacht is an all-white yacht with a massive aluminum superstructure and steel hull.
She has a helipad and a beautiful mosaic swimming pool located aft.
Of course, there is plenty of space reserved for sunbathing on one of the vessel’s seven decks.
Two 10-meter tenders find space on board DUBAI as well as a large selection of water toys.
DUBAI yacht price
The sheikh purchased DUBAI for a price of US $500 million in 2006, which makes her one of the more expensive superyachts in her size category.
She generates an estimated US $35 to 50 million in annual running costs.

Plans for ‘world-leading’ superyacht refit facility in UAE revealed
Al seer marine, mb92 and p&o marinas have partnered to create a world leading refit shipyard in the gulf region….
Al Seer Marine , MB92 Group and P&O Marinas have announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding in view of setting up a joint venture to develop the first dedicated superyacht refit and repair facility in the UAE (Dubai). The shipyard construction is scheduled for completion in 2026, with the joint venture offering its superyacht repair and refit services from next year in 2023, as the start of this strategic plan.
Al Seer Marine has been looking to develop a world class Superyacht Service Centre and Refit Shipyard in the UAE since 2019 and after discussions with P&O Marinas in Dubai, they believe they have found the perfect strategic partner to realise the project. Now with MB92 Group as the third partner and the chosen operator of the shipyard, this new facility will help to provide an alternative migration pattern for superyachts.
Jean-Marc Bolinger, CEO of MB92 Group, commented on the venture, “Creating a world-class refit shipyard from scratch, in the dynamic hub of Dubai and the Gulf, represents a very exciting and unique opportunity for our Group, which has been on our strategic agenda for several years. It will enable us to expand the footprint of our first-class facilities and provide our clients in the region with the same level of service and support they receive and expect in Barcelona and La Ciotat. We look forward to presenting the details of this exciting joint venture to our key stakeholders in the coming months.”
For those interested in finding out more about the latest developments in the UAE, be sure to head to the Yacht Club De Monaco on Thursday the 29th of September where our Chairman and Editor in Chief Martin Redmayne will be hosting an evening event themed around Superyachts in the Gulf. The event begins at 17:00 and will include opportunities for a Q&A and to network with VIP guests from the region.
Gunther Alvarado, Chief Operating Officer of Al Seer Marine noted that, “Leading this powerful partnership is part of Al Seer Marine’s overall investment strategy and vision for the Gulf Region, with some of the most complex superyachts owned and operated in the region, we will have a world class facility with leading suppliers and subcontractors, that will serve their requirements.”
This is, of course, a massive piece of good news for the entire superyacht industry, but the event highlighted above is not the only exciting opportunity centred around the gulf at MYS. Once construction is complete, the Gulf could potentially be just as popular with superyachts as regions such as the Caribbean. And, if you are indeed a yachting stakeholder who is fond of sand dunes and salty air, you will have the opportunity to enter a competition with the prize of winning an all inclusive trip to the Dubai Sail GP and Formula 1 in Abu Dhabi when you visit the UAE stand in PP75.
View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Superyacht Group (@thesuperyachtgroup)
Speaking on the potential for yachting in the region, Hamza Mustafa, Chief Operating Officer of P&O Marinas, said, “The UAE is the ideal location to service the Gulf region’s growing number of superyacht owners. Dubai has developed its reputation over the years as a top destination for luxury yachting with the creation of several high-end marinas. We already look after some of the most exclusive and advanced yachts at Mina Rashid Marina. With the development of a new service centre and refit shipyard, the UAE and Dubai’s offering as a hub for yacht owners will be even more attractive.”
As always, The Superyacht Group will be at the very forefront of any exciting announcements regarding superyacht infrastructure development in the UAE. A luxury yacht caught ablaze and sent thick smoke swirling over the scenic and nearby skyscrapers. As per the news outlet, Dubai Civil Defence received the call confirming a “moderate” fire in a vessel which was docked near the Marina Gate buildings at 11:12 am.
After the call, the Dubai Civil Defence crews soon reached the location and tried to douse the flames. “Firefighters from Dubai Harbor station arrived at 11.18 am to tackle the blaze,” a representative of Dubai Civil Defence said.
The brave crew successfully extinguished the flames and brought them under control at 12:28 pm with no reported injuries.
Crowds, including tourists and residents, stood back as the emergency services calmed the flames. Meanwhile, the interior and exterior of the vessel reportedly appeared to be badly damaged.
Several videos of the incident have been shared across the internet. Take a look:

They’ve got to be JFKidding.
John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens, New York was just named the most luxurious airport in the U.S., Travel & Leisure reported.
All Clear Travel Insurance released their findings about which airport was the most luxurious in the world in February. They ranked airports based on how many nearly 4 and 5-star hotels there are, how many designer stores there are and how many passenger lounges they have. The airports needed to have a minimum of 10 airport lounges to be in the running.
Airports were also judged on whether high-flying visitors could find a champagne or caviar bar, which is the epitome of luxury, according to those collecting the data.
JFK was ranked number one in the US but only ranks 11th globally. It lost out on rankings because it didn’t have many luxury airports early but it did have 22 airport lounges as well as 16 luxury stores. Food & Wine also ranked JFK in seventh place for airports with the best food in the world.
Food panelists recommend trying the Palm Bar & Grille in Terminal 4, which “brings New York steakhouse energy to the airport.” This is also a nod to the airport’s “luxury.”
Coming in first place for the most luxurious airport in the world is Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates, followed by London, England’s Heathrow Airport, Hamad International Airport in Qatar, Charles de Gualle Airport in Paris, France and Sydney International Airport in Sydney, Australia.
While certain things about JFK seem quite high-brow, other surveys rated the airport as one of the worst in the US.
It’s certainly not the cleanest airport, for starters. It’s also a hassle to travel to and from JFK. Perhaps, JFK is only great for those who can afford caviar or to buy a designer purse before a flight to Europe on a whim.
Last year, experts at the Family Destinations Guide used data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics to determine which airports had the most flight delays and cancellations. JFK was eighth on their list for travel.
JFK is also one of the worst airports to commute to, according to a 2019 survey from travel news website The Points Guy. It also has some of the slowest security lines.
Another survey found that experiences at JFK airport are “inconsistent” — and some travelers agree, according to their rants online calling the hub “the worst.”
JFK is the absolute worst airport I have ever been in. Whhyyyy is everything so far!?,” wrote one exasperated passenger earlier this week on X.
Declared another , “Okay JFK, you’ve reasserted your position as the worst international airport to fly into the US. You didn’t need to … No one challenged your claim.”

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' son accused of sex assault in lawsuit that also names music mogul as defendant
LOS ANGELES — Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is a subject of a federal sex trafficking investigation , has been named as a defendant in a new lawsuit that alleges his son sexually assaulted a woman while she was working on a yacht the music mogul had chartered for a trip at the end of 2022.
The allegation is the latest in a wave of lawsuits accusing Combs , 54, of sexual assault, sexual trafficking and engaging in other criminal activity. He has denied all the allegations, calling them sickening.
In the suit filed Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Grace O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs, 26, sexually assaulted her in late December 2022 while she was working on a boat charter that had been “sold as a wholesome family excursion” but turned into a “hedonistic environment.”
The alleged assault happened just days before Sean Combs hosted a New Year’s Eve yacht party with a long list of celebrity guests .
Christian Combs is accused of sexual assault, sexual harassment and infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit. Sean Combs is being sued for premises liability as the person who chartered the yacht and for aiding and abetting his son in the alleged assault.
A lawyer for the father and son called Thursday's suit "lewd and meritless" and said it was "filled with the same kind of manufactured lies and irrelevant facts we’ve come to expect" from O’Marcaigh's lawyer, Tyrone Blackburn.
The lawyer, Aaron Dyer, said his legal team plans on filing a motion to dismiss the suit.
“Like father, like son," Blackburn said Thursday night after the suit was filed. "It gives us no joy or pleasure in filing this suit against Christian Combs who has clearly adopted his father’s pattern and practice of depravity."
In the yacht studio
In her suit, O’Marcaigh alleges that Christian Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her. She included transcriptions of audio clips that she states are evidence of her denying his advances as he gropes her. The suit states that the clips were recorded by a producer in the studio.
O’Marcaigh, who was 25 at the time of the alleged assault, worked as a steward providing dinner and drink service on the yacht from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and witnessed partying and drug use between a “constant rotation of suspected sex workers” and celebrities, the suit states. She also alleges in the complaint that she suspected bottles of alcohol were laced with drugs because women began to fall over themselves, panic or pass out after just one drink.
Around Dec. 28, 2022, O’Marcaigh was informed that Christian Combs would be joining the party to record with music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones in the yacht’s makeshift studio, the suit states.
Christian Combs had been staying on shore at a villa, but often joined his father in the evenings, according to the suit. The woman’s suit alleges that he arrived “heavily intoxicated” and that he paid an inappropriate amount of attention to her.
Christian then pressured O’Marcaigh to take shots of tequila that she believes he brought onboard, according to the suit.
After she took the shot, O’Marcaigh states in the lawsuit, Christian Combs became aggressive and insisted she drink more.
O’Marcaigh became fearful and began to feel the effect of the tequila, which she “quickly suspected” had been spiked, the suit states.
The situation “escalated” as Christian Combs groped O’Marcaigh’s legs, breast, anus and vagina, the suit states. The suit details audio recordings in which it states O’Marcaigh can be heard declining alcohol, saying she had to leave, and telling Christian Combs to stop touching her with what sounds like kissing noises in the background.
The audio was recorded by Jones, the producer who was in the studio during the alleged assault and who has alleged in his own lawsuit that he was required to record Sean Combs “constantly” and had hours of footage in which the music mogul and his staff allegedly engaged in criminal conduct.
NBC News has heard two clips of audio transcribed in the suit purportedly from the night of Dec. 28, 2022, but has not verified who was recorded.
“Excuse me, you don’t touch my legs like that. I’ll move my legs where I want to,” O’Marcaigh is heard saying in the recording detailed in the suit. “If I want to do this, then I will. You don’t touch my legs like that.”
“Listen, you and everybody in the crew,” Christian Combs allegedly replies.
“I can’t, I have to go down,” O’Marcaigh says. “I have to go down.”
Christian Combs then insists that O’Marcaigh stay with him, but she responds that she cannot unless he makes that request to a crew leader, the suit states, citing the audio recording.
O’Marcaigh answered this way because she knew “anyone of authority” who could approve the request would be asleep and Christian Combs would not be able to contact them, the suit states.
“Who can I talk to? I’m going to say I requested you right now,” Christian Combs said, according to the suit.
“Well, you can take your hand off my ass for the first thing,” O’Marcaigh responded.
O’Marcaigh then attempted to resume her duties and finish her shift once she was able to leave the studio, the suit states. Christian Combs allegedly found her a short time later and insisted she find him a place to sleep.
She directed him to the yacht cinema, which was used as an extra sleeping area, where he blocked her in, the suit states.
Christian Combs allegedly began to grope her and took off his clothes.
“His penis was erect, and he grabbed her arms and was trying to force PLAINTIFF to perform oral sex on him,” the suit states.
The suit includes photos of bruising on O’Marcaigh’s forearm and alleges it was caused when Christian Combs grabbed her.
O’Marcaigh fought him off until someone else walked in, according to the suit.
Since the alleged attack
The alleged assault had a deep impact on O’Marcaigh’s mental health as well as her professional and personal lives, the suit said. When O’Marcaigh complained to the yacht captain the next day, the suit alleges, the captain did not believe her and failed to investigate.
She alleges that the captain retaliated against her until she was terminated in May 2023.
Her mental health deteriorated, and the woman had anxiety and panic attacks as well as severe suicidal ideations, the suit said. O’Marcaigh alleges that the emotional strain affected her physical health and that she developed an eating disorder and seizures following the assault.
She is seeking unspecified damages.
"I am here to fight for those who can’t fight for themselves and I applaud Grace for being so brave to come forward with her truth," attorney Rodney S. Diggs said of his client. "Hopefully her story will inspire others to come forward."
Allegations and investigation
O’Marcaigh’s suit is the first to accuse Christian Combs of sexual assault. Since November, his father, Sean Combs, has been accused in lawsuits of sexual assault by four women, which he has repeatedly denied.
One of those suits has been settled , and the others have not been resolved.
Jones, a producer who worked for Sean Combs from September 2022 to November 2023, alleged the rapper sexually harassed him, pressured him to engage in sexual acts and forced him to procure sex workers. He said he witnessed Sean Combs giving drinks laced with drugs to people at parties.
An attorney for Combs said Jones’ “reckless name-dropping about events that are pure fiction and simply did not happen is nothing more than a transparent attempt to garner headlines.”
On March 25, agents with Homeland Security Investigations searched Sean Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami. A source familiar with the investigation told NBC News that a federal investigation began before this year and that authorities were aware of the layout of Combs’ properties before the raids.
During the searches last month, federal agents discovered guns and seized his phones as part of a warrant issued from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, law enforcement sources have said. Christian Combs was detained at his father’s Los Angeles home last month when Homeland Security Investigations executed a search warrant, but he was not arrested.
Investigators are also looking into allegations of statutory rape against Sean Combs, the source said.
NBC News previously reported that at least three women and one man have been interviewed by federal investigators in relation to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms.
Aaron Dyer, one of Combs’ attorneys, issued a statement following last month’s property searches and said that Combs “was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities.” He described the search as an ambush, saying there’s been a rush to judgment based on “meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”
“There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations,” Dyer said. “Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”
