Heesen Yachts Announces Sale of 50m Project Jade
- By Brinley Hineman
- March 1, 2024
Heesen Yachts has announced the sale of YN 20350, the 50m fast cruiser Project Jade .
Project Jade was lauded by Netherlands-based Heesen as building on “Heesen’s legacy of fast, hard-chine aluminum yachts.” The yacht was listed for about $44.9 million and is the third Heesen vessel sold by SuperYachtsMonaco in the past decade.
“We are overjoyed to congratulate the client on entrusting our shipyard with building his new yacht. This sale not only showcases the exceptional quality of Heesen yachts but also confirms our strong relationship with the brokerage network,” said Chief Commercial Officer Mark Cavendish in a news release.
The all-aluminum superyacht, which comes in at 499 GT, can accommodate 12 guests in five staterooms, including an owner’s suite on the main deck forward. The guest cabins — two doubles and two twins — are on the lower deck. The yacht can host nine crew members.
The yacht’s interior was designed by Cristiano Gatto and the exterior was designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects.
Project Jade has large outdoor spaces, including a sundeck with a whirlpool, a terrace and beach club. The yacht is outfitted with mirrors and tempered glass inspired by the sky and splashes of green to evoke its namesake, Jade.
The yacht can reach up to 23 knots and is IMO III compliant. The hull was “meticulously designed and engineered by Heesen’s in-house naval architects” to provide a comfortable experience for guests.
Project Jade will be delivered to its owners in Q2, Heesen said.
“Our client is extremely happy with his purchase of such a fantastic yacht and looks forward to his first cruise,” said SuperYachtsMonaco founder Jim Evans.

YN20350 Project Jade - 2024
A curvy, sporty exterior design
At 50 metres and below 500 GT, Jade is an all-aluminium, fast-cruising yacht powered by green ocean engines. Heesen’s 50-metre fast-cruising class is the first of its kind below 500 GT to comply with IMO Tier-III regulations. A curvy, sporty exterior design by Omega Architects complements Jade’s performance and crisp design features. Heesen’s optimised, low-drag hull design with a reduced transom depth allows for a shallow shaft angle. This makes Jade comfortable in rough seas yet perfect for cruising shallow waters. The ultra-efficient hull shape delivers on engineering and adventure, meaning Jade is ideal for both island hopping and longer passages.
First impressions
Jade is the third sister in this impressive class. The sun deck is Laupman’s favourite place on board. Its elevated aft deck holds a large whirlpool with sunpads, which is accessed via three steps up. It’s this subtle design feature that allows for a full height multi-purpose tender garage-cum-luxury beach club on the lower deck, with plenty of head room. Another key exterior feature is the downward pointing bow. This provides a good line of sight to the water from the bridge, and helps to accentuate Jade’s long, sleek profile. “The whole superstructure is slightly curved giving her a more elegant aft end, while the use of wrap around glass and loose exterior furniture mean deck spaces have generous seating, but remain airy, light and well detailed,” explains Laupman.
Step aboard
Jade is a true siren of the seas. Her interior, imagined by Cristiano Gatto, is a lagoon of creativity. Cool and elegant in its choice of colours, it mixes materials and textured finishes to reflect natural light. Inviting and warm with chic undertones, the lively canvas is a creative starting point, ready to receive an owner’s personalised touch. Natural mirror and tempered glass take inspiration from the seabed. The yacht’s namesake stone – jade – inspires bold pops of green. Shaded grey leather, white lasa gold-veined marble and cool stainless steel deliver earthy tones. Jade is a blend of contemporary Italian flair and Heesen’s sporty DNA.
Interior design atmospheres
Our shipyard is proud to introduce a new interior design approach for our series yachts. We have collaborated with Cristiano Gatto and his team to create three distinct atmospheres for the upcoming Project Jade. The multi-option interior design will inspire potential clients and help them find the perfect match for their needs. Jade is currently under construction at our facility, and our skilled artisans in Oss and Winterswijk will be handcrafting her exquisite interior. The three settings we have envisioned for Jade are Aria, Terra, and Mare, each with its unique twist. By adjusting the loose furniture and design elements, the client can endlessly transform Jade's ambience.
A conceptual and airy atmosphere. This interior has a beautiful design incorporating different materials and textures to reflect natural light. The overall aesthetic is warm and inviting with stylish touches. It's the perfect blank canvas for an owner to add their personal touch. The mirrors and tempered glass are inspired by the sky, while the yacht's namesake stone, Jade, is used to create bold pops of green. The warm tones are achieved through a combination of shaded grey leather, white lasa gold-veined marble, and cool stainless steel. Aria perfectly blends contemporary Italian style and Heesen's sporty DNA.
This style is perfect for clients who enjoy cruising in colder climates, not just in the summer. It features warm tones, soft and cosy materials, and elements inspired by Mother Earth. Tanned leather, red Bulgari, and warm colours create a relaxing atmosphere ideal for cruising in the Hamptons during the winter or in the Mediterranean during the off-season. The formal dining table top in the main saloon features a Patagonia marble top, which adds a special touch to the overall ambience. The custom-made beige, white and warm brown carpet reminds us of the beauty of nature in the fall and early spring. The bespoke furniture by Cristiano Gatto complements the precious interior of Project Jade.
This version of the decor emphasizes the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The custom carpet features imaginary maps of fantasy islands, adding to the design's inspiration. The furniture is both comfortable and reminiscent of water's lightness. For example, the coffee tables give the impression of floating. The metal and marble tops are seamlessly and effortlessly supported by glass bases, much like objects floating in the water. The decor also includes feminine touches, as seen in the dining chairs' backrests, which remind us of Victorian corsets with elegant strings. This unique detail is repeated in other pieces of furniture.

New details revealed about Heesen’s 50m Project Jade
Already under construction at Heesen ’s Oss facility, 50 metre Project Jade is the third yacht in the yard’s new 50-metre semi-displacement series. With her keel laid in December 2021, she is awaiting a new owner to personalise the project and take advantage of the yacht’s spring 2024 delivery.
Dutch builder Heesen has collaborated with Omega Architects’ Frank Laupman for Project Jade’s “curvy and sporty” exterior lines, while Cristiano Gatto Design is in charge of her “modern but cosy interior design”.
Here, the team behind Project Jade reveal what will make her stand out from the crowd when she hits the water in less than two years’ time.
She is the first of her kind
Jade’s sporty lines mean that she will look elegant on the water, but she is also a technical powerhouse. She is the first yacht series measuring below 500GT to also comply with IMO Tier-III regulations and comes with a range of 3,100nm when travelling at an economical speed of 11 knots.
As with many of Heesen’s designs, her impressive top speed (Jade will be able to reach 23 knots) is down to smart naval architecture rather than pure horsepower. “The optimisation of the hull design is 12% more efficient than her predecessor, the Satori series,” explains Heesen’s Chief Commercial Officer Friso Visser. “This was achieved by streamlining the underwater body, keeping the transom depth to a minimum, raising the propellers and reducing the overall draft to just 2.15 metres – so she is perfect for cruising in shallow waters.”
Laupman wanted to make this new Heesen series look distinct. “To support her dynamic character, we curved her bow to point more downwards,” he explains. The way in which her hull and superstructure are integrated was “inspired by the sculptural qualities of the 2013 Heesen yacht Galactica Star ”.
“ Galactica Star ’s iconic rounded arch at the transom was made more square for Jade. Her exterior is more specific, with two curves almost stacked on top and after one another. These lines embrace the exterior space on the aft decks and create a special protective character. It was important that this space was kept open, so it did not increase the gross tonnage,” he adds.
Continuing a legacy
As the third yacht in the series, Jade will mark another milestone in the development of Heesen’s 50m aluminium semi-displacement range. “Something that might not be so obvious about the series is that it is inspired by precious stones,” explains interior designer Gatto. The first unit, Aquamarine , was followed by Sapphire and now, Jade. “Many years have passed since the first of the series. Jade is a step forward, a step taken with the awareness of growth and improvement.”
The meaning behind the name Jade is also subtly reflected in the design. The yacht’s namesake stone inspired bold pops of green throughout, complemented by natural mirrors and tempered glass that mimic the seabed, and earthy materials such as shaded grey leather, white gold-veined marble and cool stainless steel. Ultimately, the end goal is to “deliver to the owner a precious stone,” adds Gatto.
Her design is made to last
Just like her name, Jade shares many similarities with her sisterships, but also a few key differences. “By keeping Jade as close to the original design as possible, we are able to secure good delivery times, and maintain high standards of quality,” says Visser. “We may have started this project a year ago, but we planned for it to continue for at least a decade,” adds Gatto.
To stand the test of time, the previous 50m design was enhanced. “To evolve the design, we started by finding the essence of the initial design, refined it and then enriched it,” says Gatto. The outcome saw Jade designed with features that make better use of the space available.
“In the wheelhouse, we made the windows appear in only three surfaces so that the view is less disturbed,” says Laupman. “The full-height beach club has become one surface that merges into the swim platform once the hatch is down, which affords a raised sunpad and whirlpool on the aft deck,” he adds.
Gatto was able to create a “fresh, modern and contemporary” interior – one that can be changed to suit the future owner’s tastes. “I designed Jade by looking through the eyes of a client,” adds Gatto. “Just like a blank canvas, Jade's interiors will be coloured in accordance with the owner's desires, as if she is a melody written just for them.” The customisation options inside Jade include choices of material, colours and loose furniture.
Light is a key feature
A core feature of the interior is the mixture of materials and textured finishes that reflect natural light from the abundant windows. “There is no coldness in this interior like there often is with minimalism,” says Gatto. “The amount of light is thanks to the architectural detail – there is no need for a lot of lamps – and the light and shadow effects in this project are sculptural elements that define the design.”
Jade has been built with an innovative interior layout. “The layout is fascinating,” says Gatto. “The features we put in are what, in my opinion, makes this project a success.” An example of this original layout can be found on the main deck, where the large saloon has almost no divisions between the interior and exterior.
Further inside, guests will come across the China room, a space dedicated to entertaining. “The number of square metres and the volume of this space is enormous,” says Gatto – as is the owner’s suite, which boasts a walk-in dressing room, a feature that is not common for this size of boat. The sundeck, with its Jacuzzi, bar and large seating area, is another key meeting point on board. “With all these spaces, there is a consistent style and rhythm,” adds Gatto. “The first impression for Jade’s future owner should be that she is an environment that has been powerfully designed,” he adds.

WA has introduced what it says are the 'toughest' nang laws in the country. Will they work?
When she was a teenager, Claire* would duck into her local corner store and buy a packet of tiny canisters and inhale the nitrous oxide stored inside.
At the age of 20, Claire no longer uses nangs, but some users have been left with permanent disabilities.
Traditionally used as medicine or in catering, the canisters – also called 'nangs' – have become an increasingly common sight at parties and festivals over the past decade.
The sale of the canisters are set to be restricted to registered food and beverage businesses in Western Australia after being linked to brain and spinal cord damage.
The WA government made the announcement at the weekend, touting the legislation as the toughest nitrous oxide regulations in Australia.
Now a nursing student living in Sydney, Claire said it was a step in the right direction.
"I've realised the health effects that it has," she said.
"It's so easy for young kids to access it because it's like vapes. You just walk into the store and ask for it and they give it to you."
Why are nangs risky?
Unlike in other states and territories, the sale of 'nangs' to children under the age of 16 has been banned in WA since late 2022.
Emergency departments across the state recorded 22 nitrous oxide-related presentations in 2020, including eight patients with some degeneration of the spinal cord.
Since then, the WA Poisons Information Centre said it had identified an upward trend in reports about nitrous oxide, with 50 calls made in 2023.
Centre toxicologist Jason Armstrong said some have been left with "severe and potentially permanent, life changing disabilities" due to chronic nitrous oxide abuse.
"We certainly see patients or members of the public who use hundreds of these little, tiny canisters a day. It's an extraordinary misuse of the canisters," he said.
"The most significant toxicities we see relate to pure degeneration of the spinal cord, so people are unable to walk.
"The worst and most tragic cases end up with permanent life-changing spinal cord degeneration and loss of mobility."
What will change?
Under the new regulations, set to be enforced later in the year, eligible buyers would only have access to small 10 gram canisters, with the sale of larger containers to be banned.
Sale will be restricted to:
- registered food businesses;
- select businesses with a liquor licence; and
- other persons approved by the Department of Health.
Buyers may have to show proof of their eligibility at point of purchase.
Separate regulations are already in place for the medical use of nitrous oxide.
Retailers face prosecution and fines of up to $30,000 if found in breach of the laws.
There are currently no penalties for consumers.
Data in short supply
Alcohol and Drug Foundation manager for policy and engagement Robert Taylor said the increase in calls to the poison hotline was concerning.
But he said there remained an overall shortage of data around the use of nitrous oxide in Australia.
"We don't actually have great data about the use of nitrous oxide in Australia, or in Western Australia at all," he said.
"About 0.7 per cent [of the population] have used nitrous oxide, so it is a very small number compared to other substances like cannabis or cocaine."
Will it work?
Mr Taylor said the retail restrictions may not be effective if consumers buy the product through a different market.
"We don't know unfortunately the ways people access nitrous oxide," he said.
"We don't know how many people are accessing them through retail, versus an illicit market, delivery, [or] online sales that may or may not be affected by this ban.
"Getting education out into communities, targeting young people who we know might be more likely to use nitrous oxide, that's going to be the key way to reduce harm going forward.
"It's going to be a little bit of a wait and see to see if this affects the way people access nitrous oxide in the community."
*Claire's name has been changed in order to protect her identity.
