The Catamaran’s architecture, reminiscent of the traditional Colonial Hawaiian style, boasts accents including totem poles handcrafted in Bali, art pieces such as tapa cloth from Vanuatu and a beautiful front desk constructed of Black Koa wood imported directly from Tahiti.

At the Catamaran, guests are checked into one of 310 guest rooms, studios or suites, each with a private balcony or patio that opens to stunning views of Mission Bay, the Pacific Beach neighborhood and coastline, or the hotel’s lush tropical gardens. On-site dining options include Oceana Coastal Kitchen, rated by Zagat as one of San Diego’s most anticipated restaurants and featuring chef-driven surf and turf dishes. Next door to this signature restaurant is Moray’s, where guests can sip on a signature Moray’s Mai Tai, savor a local craft beer and enjoy happy hour specials Monday-Friday. Both venues feature a blend of indoor and patio spaces, the latter lined with tiki torches, fire pit tables and lush palms.

Guests may also choose to grab a bite at Lava Java, the on-site grab and go café, or poolside at the Catamaran’s full bar and grill which serves up barbecue favorites during the spring and summer months. Another standout summer special is the Catamaran’s signature luaus, featuring live performers that guide guests through the cultures of the South Pacific as they enjoy a Hawaiian buffet.

Those who prefer to spend their time on the water can opt for a cruise on the Bahia Belle, a replica of an 1860s-era sternwheeler that tours around Mission Bay. Operating seasonally, the Bahia Belle is a turn-of-the-century, Mississippi-style boat that provides a 45-minute sightseeing cruise of Mission Bay. The 74-foot, 3-story sternwheeler boat offers an observation deck to view the beautiful sites of the 4,200-acre aquatic park.

The Catamaran Spa—the only beachfront spa in San Diego—offers a South Pacific-inspired menu of treatments including massages, facials, body wraps, hydrotherapy treatments and more—carried out with all-natural marine and botanical elements. Beautiful grounds, loved the pool and fitness area. The room (2 garden queen) didn't have a balcony or patio. The sliding door opened into the hallway. Avoid rooms 203, 205 and 207.

Location & property is beautiful

We would possibly stay here again if there were no other choices but will avoid it. After checking in we went to the restaurant downstairs, it's an odd menu with limited offerings but the food was fine. After getting back to our room we receive a call (on the room phone) about our room charge for dinner and that we aren't checked in. Ok, how did I receive a room number and key if I'm not checked in? They said they will finish checking us in and it will be fine. Later, after already changing for bed and settling for the night we get a call again. They didn't save our credit card information so I have to go back down there to check in again. Their fees, while not unusual for the area, are astronomical and completely unjustified. The resort fee was to cover wifi, beach chairs, housekeeping, etc. Wifi would constantly kick you off, and was extremely slow. You could pay more for an upgraded wifi plan - then why are you claiming it's part of resort fee. We couldn't get beach chairs and were only offered what chairs were already sitting on grass - we couldn't take to beach. There was no housekeeping, they stated we needed to stay 4 nights for housekeeping. We had to ask 3 times for toilet paper and never received any - we had to go buy some at the store. This was on top of the room not being thoroughly cleaned before we got there. The lava java was not open for the stated hours. They claimed they were open til 7pm but we tried going at 5pm and they were closed.

This property is beautiful and super close to Pacific Beach and the boardwalk. Like a 5 minute walk to the beach.

The stormy weather was no under your control. The lack of clean up after the storms was something you could have controlled. The extensive reconstruction contributed to the general disorder around the grounds. The room was OK, we expected more.

We love staying here. Location is close to anywhere in the bay or on the beach and the staff is top notch. Pool and Gym are nice also!

Location and water Sports Great. Balcony under repair and not available not great.

The property itself was well maintained and beautiful. However, the walking paths to get around were very dark and should be better lit. Our bathroom in our room was disgusting, there was mold in the tub, the flooring was cracked and stained. The shower turned from scorching hot to ice cold. The hallway carpets were stained. The rooms, hallways and stairwells were dirty. The rooms need to be renovated for what they charge per night, it was very disappointing. Would never recommend this hotel to anyone.

We really enjoyed the landscape near the Tower hotel rooms. Very peaceful and beautiful scenery. The hotel room was a little dated and needs a new sliding door and screen door. Other than that it was nice.

The grounds of the resort were beautiful! Staff was excellent, location great.

Love how close you are to the beach. Rooms are quiet & curtains black out sun. Pool was clean & plenty of towels. Only negative was pool gate closest to our room was chained & not usable, we had to walk through the lobby to get to pool. Not easy w/2 little kids.

Dated accommodations, bathroom and bedding/linens were not clean.

This beachfront hotel sits on pretty green grounds full of palm trees, lush plants, trim lawns, ponds with colorful fish, and even exotic birds flying about. The greenery creeps inside as well -- a rock waterfall and koi pond in the lobby is skirted in ferns, small palms, and tropical greenery sprouting here and there beneath the sloped roof. Though dated, it somehow works, bringing a kitschy dose of the natural world inside. The place has a Polynesian vibe, with bamboo and rattan furniture, wooden art hanging on the walls, and teak wood elements. Though many spaces could use an update -- like the drab carpeting and beige walls in the lobby and hallways -- the resort is a fine choice with a great location and a good selection of amenities, garnering terrific ratings and reviews from guests.
