Lachlan Murdoch, heir to the Murdoch media empire, has reportedly purchased a fully refurbished, 43-metre long yacht for a cool $30 million ($22.5 million USD).

The freshly re-done 1954 motor yacht, Istros , was sold over a month ago. The Sydney Morning Herald reports that their sources say Istros will be motoring into Sydney Harbour in the near future, where it will be docked nearby the Murdoch’s $100 million ($75 million USD) Bellevue Hill Estate called Le Manoir.

News of the sale comes as Murdoch awaits the delivery of his 60-metre, $150 million sailing yacht which is still under construction at the Royal Huisman Shipyard in Amsterdam — which means that the Istros is essentially the Murdoch family’s very, very expensive ‘tinnie.’

The delicately refurbished 68-year-old ‘tinnie’ comes with 5 staterooms that can accommodate up to 10 guests, state of the art satellite TV technology as well as a fully stocked private bar and lounge area on the top deck. That’s quite the cruise-about.

The two new ships will pair extremely well with the family’s new Point Piper ‘boat shed,’ which Lachlan and his wife Sarah Murdoch reportedly paid a staggering $37 million for, granting it the official title of “ Australia’s most expensive boat shed .”

When the family relocated from Los Angeles to Sydney over a year ago, there was no certainty around how long they would be living in Australia, however The Sydney Morning Herald has now officially confirmed that the Murdochs have officially settled down in Australia, claiming that the election of Democratic President Joe Biden was a major factor behind the move.

Lachlan Murdoch will maintain his position as the Executive Chairman and CEO of Fox Corporation, a conservative media outlet in the United States. The move probably won’t bother Lachlan too much, as he continues to jet back and forth between the US on his $90 million private jet.

RUPERT MURDOCH LUXURY YACHT

Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch has sold his stunning yacht, named Rosehearty, for a staggering $29.7 million.

The 138 feet long yacht with an interior design by Christian Liagre features 5 guest cabins, a dining room, gym and a multi-media room. Water skis and full sets of diving gear were also included in the sale.

Rupert put the sailing yacht up for sale three months after filing for divorce from his ex-wife Wendi Deng, a frequent traveler of the vessel. The yacht was sold over Christmas by Alex Lees-Buckley in Monoco’s Camper & Nicholsons office. The identity of the buyer is undisclosed.

The yacht was built in 2006 by Perini Navi, the shipyard based in Viareggio, Italy, known for crafting bespoke luxury yachts.

Rupert Murdoch to sell his yacht for $29.7 million

Ahoy, captain! Rupert Murdoch has put his 184-foot sailing yacht, the

Rupert Murdoch is parting with one of his favorite trophies—his yacht.

Less than three months after filing for divorce from his wife of 14 years, Wendi Deng, Rupert Murdoch has listed the family's 184-foot sailing yacht called Rosehearty. The asking price: $29.7 million.

( Read more: Murdoch's estranged wife brings in legal big guns )

You can see the listing here , at Camper & Nicholsons International, the yacht broker and charter company. Camper declined to comment on the seller or the reasons for the sale. A spokesperson for Murdoch confirmed the listing.

Yacht brokers said Murdoch had not been spending much time on the yacht in recent years, and that Wendi had been using it more often. A person close to Murdoch said the reason for the sale was not related to the divorce.

"Rupert works all the time," one broker said. "He loves the boat, he loves to sail, but he doesn't really use it much."

The yacht was built in 2006 by Perini Navi, the Italian shipyard known for its luxurious, sleek sailing yachts. Rosehearty has a crisp, modern interior by the famed French designer Christian Liaigre, with five suites for 10 guests, including two VIP suites. The main mast of the yacht towers at 193 feet and it has a sail area of 16,792 square feet.

The boat also has plenty of "toys" on board, including water skis, a wakeboard and full sets of diving gear. The deck also has a large Jacuzzi.

It's fully equipped for a media mogul, with wireless Internet and plenty of plasma televisions in the cabins.

The Dancing Hare, a 189 ft superyacht, is currently moored in Auckland after traversing the South Pacific and Caribbean Sea.

As displays of conspicuous wealth go, she certainly takes some beating with glass panels encircling the deck, wraparound glass railings, and accommodation for 12 guests — and up to 15 staff — in a master suite, four doubles and a twin stateroom.

The price? £11.8 million; at least that was the asking price when this behemoth was purchased in 2017.

Since then, Dancing Hare, flying under the flag of the Marshall Islands in the central Pacific, where she is officially registered, has been spotted sailing around the Galapagos Islands, St Lucia, Fiji, Tonga, and Bora Bora in French Polynesia.

Those on board, according to online video diaries chronicling the cruiser's progress, enjoyed everything 'from diving adventures with sharks and turtles' to watching 'dolphins swimming off their bow'.

Yet few outside the boating world will be aware that the white and orange striped flag fluttering in the ocean breeze belonged, in a previous life 30 years ago, to one of the most famous — or rather infamous — yachts in the world.

Back then it had a very different name. It was called the Lady Ghislaine and the owner was disgraced newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell.

On the evening of November 5, 1991, with his empire, including the Daily Mirror, on the brink of collapse, Maxwell's naked 22 st body was found floating in the Atlantic off the Canaries, having fallen overboard from the stern of his yacht earlier in the day.

The Lady Ghislaine was owned by disgraced newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell and named after his daughter

The Lady Ghislaine was owned by disgraced newspaper tycoon Robert Maxwell and named after his daughter

It soon became apparent that Maxwell, who was 68, was not only bankrupt (about £1 billion) but had also pilfered millions from the Mirror's pension fund.

Many believe his bitter rivalry with fellow media tycoon Rupert Murdoch was to blame for his downfall which 'unhinged him' and drove him to cripplingly over-extend himself.

But Maxwell must be turning in his grave for another reason.

For, three decades on, the Lady Ghislaine, Maxwell's pride and joy which he christened after his favourite daughter, Ghislaine — herself mired in controversy and awaiting trial in New York on charges, which she denies, of trafficking underage girls with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein — has fallen into the hands of the Murdoch family after changing hands several times down the years.

The irony is beyond parody.

The latest owner of the twice-renamed, refurbished Lady Ghislaine (which was first renamed Lady Mona K before her current moniker of Dancing Hare) is none other than Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife Anna, a new biography of Robert Maxwell reveals.

Scots-born Anna, 76, is the mother of three of Murdoch's children, Elisabeth, 52, Lachlan, 49, and James, 48, who have all played prominent roles in their father's media conglomerate.

On the evening of November 5, 1991, with his empire, including the Daily Mirror, on the brink of collapse, Maxwell's naked 22 st body was found floating in the Atlantic off the Canaries (pictured on the boat in 1990)

Why, though, of all the yachts, in all the world, would the former Mrs Murdoch — now Anna Murdoch Mann dePeyster, having twice remarried since divorcing Murdoch in 1998 — have chosen to buy this particular yacht? Author John Preston offers the following explanation in the very final paragraph of his book, Fall: The Mystery Of Robert Maxwell, which features a photograph of the Lady Ghislaine on the front cover.

He writes: 'In 2017, Rupert Murdoch's former wife Anna decided that she wanted to buy a yacht. Their son James, a keen sailor, offered to help. A few weeks later, he found just what he was looking for — a boat called the Lady Mona K, on the market for $14.5 million [more than £11 million at the time]. His mother went to have a look and liked what she saw.

'It was only after buying the Lady Mona K that Anna learned the yacht's name had been changed years earlier. It had previously been called the Lady Ghislaine.'

But The Times, one of Rupert Murdoch's newspapers, knew about the yacht's history, reporting shortly before the former Mrs Murdoch bought it from a Saudi Arabian lawyer, that the Lady Mona K was on the market and was in fact the Lady Ghislaine 'with a refurbished guard rail'.

This was an open secret in yachting circles.

The latest owner of the twice-renamed, refurbished Lady Ghislaine is none other than Rupert Murdoch's ex-wife Anna (pictured)

So would it be beyond the realms of possibility to suggest there could have been more to the acquisition than meets the eye?

That acquiring the old enemy's once prized possession might have provided an unexpected incentive for the wider Murdoch clan, a kind of posthumous schadenfreude?

The Murdochs would be only human if they had. After all, their rivalry was the stuff of legend.

Anna and Rupert Murdoch were together for more than three decades, during which time Maxwell played the role of the pantomime villain, a Trumpian figure whose clashes with Murdoch, inside and outside the boardroom, dominated the 1980s and spilled over into bitter personal animosity.

The feud was even turned into a Jeffrey Archer page turner (The Fourth Estate), a thinly disguised account of the lives of the two tycoons. Anna had a ringside seat to the rivalry. It began in 1968 when Maxwell moved to buy the News Of The World but lost out to Murdoch — 'an Aussie upstart' — who was looking to crack the UK market.

'Never has a man caught a bigger whale with a smaller hook,' Maxwell said later, alluding to the fact that he felt Murdoch underpaid for the title, a deal which proved enormously profitable for him.

Many believe Maxwell's (left) bitter rivalry with fellow media tycoon Rupert Murdoch (right) was to blame for his downfall

Many believe Maxwell's (left) bitter rivalry with fellow media tycoon Rupert Murdoch (right) was to blame for his downfall

Murdoch would also outbid Maxwell for The Sun the following year and The Times and The Sunday Times in 1981.

When Maxwell finally bought Mirror Group Newspapers in 1984, his Daily Mirror slugged it out with Murdoch's Sun, which culminated in a circulation war waged, to quote one colourful account from those times, 'with bingo giveaways, bare-breasted pin-up girls and screaming headlines'.

In New York, they also owned rival tabloids. Maxwell had the Daily News and Murdoch owned the New York Post.

However, Maxwell's spending spree in America, including paying $2.6 billion for publishing house Macmillan U.S., precisely because he was desperate to go toe-to-toe with Murdoch across the pond, left him heavily in hock to the banks — money he could not repay when profits fell, interest rates soared and recession loomed.

This was the background to his last fateful voyage on the Lady Ghislaine.

Just before 5am on November 5, 1991, Maxwell phoned the crew to complain that his cabin was too cold. The air conditioning was turned off. Sometime afterwards, he walked naked to the stern of the boat, probably to urinate, as he was prone to do. He was never seen alive again.

At about 6am, Kevin Maxwell rang his father. They were due to meet the Governor of the Bank of England in London, where they would have been grilled about the state of their business which left a multi-million-pound hole in the Mirror Group pension pot.

Maxwell did not reply. Around 12 hours later, a helicopter pilot with the Spanish national rescue service spotted the body of a man on his back, spreadeagled.

Was his death an accident? Did he jump? Was he pushed? The first scenario is most likely, but we shall never know for sure.

The Lady Ghislaine was placed in the hands of administrators and purchased, it is believed, for around £10 million by the aforementioned Saudi Arabian who reportedly sold the boat, by now renamed as the Lady Mona K, to Anna Murdoch three years ago.

The yacht, to borrow the description of one commentator, was a 'four-storey, floating symbol' of the brash, self-aggrandising attention-seeking Robert Maxwell himself.

It had a gymnasium and discotheque with decor which was '1970s Playboy Baroque' and where guests wore bootees to keep the deep-pile cream carpets clean. The former Mrs Murdoch, who now lives in Florida with her third husband, property developer Ashton dePeyster, 74, must have gained considerable satisfaction giving her acquisition the 'sophisticated' refurbishment referred to in the sailing press.

The entire interior design was replaced by London-based designer Olivia Outred and the yacht spent seven months at the Balk Shipyard in Amsterdam getting a state-of-the art overhaul.

Nevertheless, the new owner — who is understood to have received a $100 million (more than £70 million) divorce settlement from her first husband — has kept a low profile.

She has not advertised her links with Dancing Hare, which was relaunched in May 2018 with a baptism by a priest and a christening by the captain.

The owners are listed as Moonstone Enterprises, incorporated in Delaware in the U.S. where state laws mean individuals behind such companies can remain anonymous. Monaco-based KK Superyachts, which brokered the purchase of the yacht, are the commercial managers.

At the time of writing, neither KK Superyachts or Anna Murdoch Mann dePeyster wished to comment.

But why settle on the name Dancing Hare?

One of Anna Murdoch Mann dePeyster's favourite artists is the late figurative sculptor Barry Flanagan who was renowned for his bronze statues of hares which were exhibited in Europe and the U.S.

One such statue was called Dancing Hare. A symbol of everything the Lady Ghislaine was not.

When I tell people about our package on American oligarchy at Mother Jones , everyone wants to know about the yachts .

As I wrote in an essay for the magazine, these gleaming vessels have come to symbolize both the decadence and detachment of Russia’s ultra-wealthy and our own. And they are full of some absolutely ridiculous shit: submarines and helicopter hangars, sculptures of spouses preening off the bow, climbing walls, anti-paparazzi lasers, drone-detection systems, gold-leaf ceilings, IMAX theaters. The former owner of Tottenham Hotspur installed a padel court on the yacht where he used to conduct his business deals. (Are you familiar with padel? It’s sort of like pickleball for people who do insider trading .)

But there’s one yacht that I’ve come to think of as sort of the yacht of yachts. The Christina O is not the biggest superyacht in the world; at 325 feet, it is a full 265 feet shorter than the royal family of Abu Dhabi’s pleasure craft, Azzam . But the Christina O is unsurpassed in both its rich-guy history and rich-guy taste. It was built for Aristotle Onassis in the 1950s, played host to Jackie Kennedy, and served as Grace Kelly’s wedding venue when she married the Prince of Monaco. It also had a swimming pool that turned into a dance floor and bar stools made out of whale foreskins, so that Onassis could tell women that they were “sitting on the largest penis in the world.” The dance floor became a recurring feature in the industry; the seats, as far as I know, did not.

Post by @motherjonesmag View on Threads

It wasn’t just its life under Onassis, though, that gives the Christina O its mystique. The ship has has had an illustrious afterlife as a for-charter vessel, at the low price of $800,000-a-week . It was a filming location for The Crown , and for an Angelina Jolie movie about Maria Callas (one of Onassis’ lovers), and for the 2022 Academy-Award-nominee, Triangle of Sadness , which is about a group of wealthy tourists who end up submerged in sewage and attacked by pirates after arguing about capitalism. Heidi Klum got married on it. And in the summer of 2023, a year after finalizing his divorce with his fourth-wife Jerry Hall, it’s where Rupert Murdoch retreated for a Mediterranean cruise with two of his daughters; his third ex-wife Wendy Deng; and one of Deng’s good friends—a molecular biologist named Elena Zhukova.

As they soaked in the sun in Naples and Corfu, the Daily Mail reported that Murdoch and Zhukova were more than friends. “He’s got the energy of people half his age,” a source helpfully told Matt Drudge. “He just might be in love again.” On Friday the New York Times confirmed that the 92-going-on-46-year-old Murdoch and 66-year-old Zhukova are officially engaged. There’s just something about that ship!

Murdoch, you know by now—he is the conservative media mogul “who has done more damage to the United States,” former Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull told Sean Kelly in Mother Jones earlier this year, than any other person alive. But Zhukova is an equally compelling figure in oligarch circles.

Born in the USSR, she emigrated to the US to work at Baylor College of Medicine and ended up researching diabetes at UCLA. She was married for a while to a Russian billionaire investor , Alexander Zhukov, and they had a daughter, Dasha Zhukova, but Alexander and Elena had divorced before Alexander made most of his money. Then in 2008, Dasha Zhukova also married a Russian billionaire investor—Roman Abramovich, an oligarch who made his first fortune when he scooped up a state-owned oil company at cents on the dollar and eventually built the world’s third-largest yacht, Eclipse . The couple got big into art collecting and curation, and even started a contemporary art museum in St. Petersburg. The younger Zhukova also struck up a friendship with Murdoch’s third-wife (at the time), and when Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced he was making Abramovich an “honorary citizen” of New York City in 2013, Deng was in attendance .

Murdoch divorced Deng and married Jerry Hall, and then Murdoch and Hall divorced too. Roman and Dasha divorced in 2018, and Dasha Zhukova ended up remarrying a year later to the Greek billionaire Stavros Niarchos III—who was, to bring this full circle, the grandson of Stravros Niarchos I, a famous yacht owner, and the person Onassis was trying to one-up when he decided to build a sprawling luxury yacht stuffed with whale foreskins.

That’s a lot to sift through, but that’s sort of the point: Once you start reading about rich people and their yachts, you realize that you can never stop reading about rich people and their yachts. You are always , on some level, reading about rich people and their yachts, even if it seems like you are reading about art or politics or soccer . It’s like discovering some hidden fabric of the universe that binds and connects everyone with an offshore bank account and three or more wives.

This is Murdoch’s second engagement in the last year. Last March, less than a year after he divorced Hall, he announced impending nuptials with Ann Lesley Smith, a Los Angeles dental hygienist who met Murdoch either—accounts vary—at the same southern California vineyard where he is about to marry Zhukova or at his ranch in Montana, where, The Guardian reported , “the former dental hygienist was said to have offered to check his cavities.”

Smith, who had been married three times, referred to their union as a “ gift from God .” That engagement ended after two weeks.

Lachlan Murdoch's top secret $150 million superyacht revealed

Posted: April 2, 2023 | Last updated: February 2, 2024

Lachlan Murdoch is one step closer to adding a new $150 million superyacht to his collection of luxury vessels. The News Corp heir is set to receive the superyacht after patiently waiting five years for it to be developed and finally constructed by Dutch company Royal Huisman. The superyacht has been shrouded in secrecy and was dubbed Project 404 and cost at least $150 million. Read the full story: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11903347/Lachlan-Murdoch-superyacht-150million-ship-ready-News-Corp-media-mogul-five-years.html?ito=msngallery

Rupert Murdoch reportedly spent a night on a gurney in a hospital parking lot after he broke his back falling on son Lachlan's yacht

  • Rupert Murdoch reportedly broke his back after he fell while aboard his son Lachlan's yacht in 2018.
  • The media giant also reportedly tore an Achilles tendon and struggled with cases of pneumonia and COVID-19.
  • A new report from Vanity Fair detailed previously unreported health scares experienced by the 92-year-old media mogul.

Insider Today

Rupert Murdoch reportedly fell and sustained serious injuries while aboard his son's yacht in 2018, an incident that led the media mogul to spend a night in a European hospital parking lot, waiting under a tent until he could be flown back to the US.

A lengthy new report from Vanity Fair detailed several previously unreported health scares experienced by the 92-year-old CEO and chairman of News Corporation, including a broken back from the yacht fall, a torn Achilles, seizures, and bouts with pneumonia and COVID-19.

Citing sources close to the family, Vanity Fair reported that the media mogul and his then-wife Jerry Hall were on Lachlan Murdoch's yacht in January 2018 when Rupert fell while using the bathroom overnight, waking Hall, who found him in pain on the floor.

Related stories

The yacht, which was sailing near Guadeloupe, reportedly docked at the nearest island to take Murdoch to the hospital, per Vanity Fair.

However, the hospital on the island was allegedly closed due to a recent fire, so Murdoch was forced to spend a night in the hospital parking lot on a gurney under a tent until a family plane arrived to fly him back to the states to receive medical care.

Sources close to the family said he was in critical condition, and "kept almost dying," according to Vanity Fair.

The incident reportedly left Murdoch bedridden for months, during which he was spoon fed by Hall as he recovered. According to the report, Murdoch later tore an Achilles tendon after tripping over a box in March 2019, leaving him wheelchair-bound. He also reportedly spent time in the hospital with pneumonia and seizures during this convalescent period.

Murdoch was said to be much more careful during the pandemic than Fox News hosts were advising the public to be, and people close to the family told Vanity Fair that he and Hall stayed home for months at a time in 2020. Murdoch was also one of the first people to receive a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as Fox hosts criticized preventative measures like the vaccines and masks.

Despite his precautions, Murdoch was reportedly diagnosed with COVID-19 just days before his granddaughter's wedding in July 2022, and appeared "very weak," with Lachlan "holding him up to get from place to place," a guest told Vanity Fair.

Representatives for Murdoch and Hall did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Rupert Murdoch Set to Be Married for 5th Time, Engaged to Girlfriend Elena Zhukova

The 92-year-old media mogul is set to tie the knot this summer with his 67-year-old partner

Rupert Murdoch is engaged again -- this time to current girlfriend Elena Zhukova

The former chairman of Fox and News Corps, 92, and the retired molecular biologist, 67, are taking their relationship to new heights as they prepare to tie the knot .

On Thursday, reports circulated that Murdoch and Zhukova will wed this June — it will be the fifth time the media mogul has said “I do,” and it is currently his sixth engagement.

According to The New York Times , the media mogul and his bride-to-be began dating over the summer, and invitations for the wedding have already gone out. The ceremony will be held at Murdoch’s California vineyard and estate, Moraga, both the Times and ABC News reported.

Zhukova and the Australian native are said to have met through his third wife Wendi Deng , the New York Times reported, citing The Daily Mail .

Murdoch and Deng, 55, secretly wed on his yacht in New York Harbour in 1999, approximately two weeks after he finalized his divorce from his second wife Anna Maria Torv, the mother of his three kids Elisabeth, Lachlan and James . Little is known about Murdoch's late first wife Patricia Booker, whom he shared one daughter with named Prudence.

Murdoch and Deng met in Hong Kong in 1997. In a 2016 interview with Vogue , Deng told the magazine that she was the only Chinese executive working at the Murdoch–owned Star TV at the time.

"I don’t think I ever considered myself just a rich wife," she said in the same interview. "When E-Trade first started, I was at home moving stocks around.”

They were married for 14 years, during which time Deng protected Murdoch from a pie-throwing assailant .

His last engagement was announced in March 2023 to Ann Lesley Smith , though the couple called it off in April of the same year.

Zhukova is also a divorcee, being previously married to Alexander Zhukov, a billionaire energy investor who now resides in London as a British citizen, the New York Times said.

Before coming to the United States, she was a resident of Moscow.

Her career as a molecular biologist led her to study diabetes at institutions such as the University of California in Los Angeles.

Zhukova has a daughter, Dasha Zhukova, who works as a philanthropist and entrepreneur. Dasha was also previously married, but ended her relationship with Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich in 2017.

Rupert Murdoch engaged again - who were his previous wives?

After relationships including a 32-year marriage and an engagement called off just weeks after being announced, the media mogul is set to marry again later this year.

Rupert Murdoch is preparing to wed for the fifth time – 68 years after he first got married.

The 92-year-old media mogul - who turns 93 on 11 March - is set to marry retired molecular biologist Elena Zhukova , 67, at his California vineyard.

The engagement comes just months after the former Fox Corp chairman and Sky News founder called off his previous engagement , and two years after his most recent divorce.

From his first bride in the '50s to the wedding he called off and his latest fiancée, these are the women Mr Murdoch has married and been engaged to through the years…

Patricia Booker

Mr Murdoch's first marriage was to Australian flight attendant Patricia Booker.

The pair married in 1956 and welcomed a daughter, Prudence, two years later. They divorced in 1967.

Mr Murdoch's longest marriage was to Scottish journalist Anna Mann, born Anna Torv, who he was married to from 1967 to 1999.

Ms Mann, from Glasgow, was working in Australia for a Murdoch-owned newspaper when she met the mogul. They had three children together; Elisabeth, born in 1968, Lachlan, born in 1971 and James, born in 1972.

During their marriage, Ms Mann narrowly escaped a kidnap attempt when in 1969, two brothers killed the wife of Mr Murdoch's News Limited deputy - who they had mistaken for her.

Rupert Murdoch and wife Wendi Deng tied the knot on his yacht in New York in 1999

Mr Murdoch married his third wife, Wendi Deng, in 1999 - less than three weeks after his previous divorce was finalised.

Ms Deng was working at a Murdoch-owned company in Hong Kong when they met at a party in 1997.

The China-born Deng went on to have an "enormous impact" on Mr Murdoch's life," according to his biographer, and gave her husband an image overhaul in the early noughties.

While she never held an official position at News Corp, she's considered to have influenced its dealings in Asia.

During a July 2011 parliamentary hearing on phone hacking, she leapt into the spotlight when she jumped in front of her husband to protect him from a protester throwing a cream pie.

Ms Deng and Mr Murdoch had two daughters together - Grace, born in 2001, and Chloe, born in 2003 - before divorcing in 2013.

The media mogul married Jerry Hall in a church on London's Fleet Street in 2016, just four months after they first met.

Mr Murdoch, then 84, tweeted that he felt "like the luckiest AND happiest man in the world" after the ceremony, but unfortunately it wasn't to last.

The pair split six years on , and it later emerged that Mr Murdoch allegedly ended the marriage via email.

Texas-born Ms Hall found fame as a model in the 1970s and was featured on numerous Vogue covers. She became a muse for artists including Lucian Freud and later moved into acting.

Ms Hall had a 22-year relationship with Mick Jagger, frontman of The Rolling Stones, which ended in 1999. They had four children together.

Ann Lesley Smith

Mr Murdoch's latest engagement is his second in as many years.

In March 2023, he announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith, a former police chaplain, and said: "I dreaded falling in love - but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I'm happy."

The pair never made it up the aisle though as their split was reported just two weeks later.

Ms Zhukova, Mr Murdoch's latest fiancée, was introduced to him by his third wife, Wendi Deng.

The biologist has been described as "very well-connected" by society magazine Tatler and her daughter, Dasha Zhukova, was married to Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich until 2017. She is now wed to billionaire Greek shipping heir Stavros Niarchos III.

Rupert Murdoch is engaged again. No, seriously.

The 92-year-old media mogul is engaged to a former scientist from russia. their wedding -- his fifth -- is scheduled for june..

Now that he’s no longer running Fox, Rupert Murdoch probably has extra time on his hands. But he’s not planning on spending it alone.

The 92-year-old media titan is once again engaged — this time to retired scientist Elena Zhukova, a person close to Murdoch confirmed Thursday on the condition of anonymity to preserve confidences. The two will be married June 1 in a ceremony planned at Murdoch’s California estate and vineyard. This will be Murdoch’s fifth marriage.

The Style section

Though Zhukova’s backstory remains somewhat unclear, multiple reports suggest that she is the mother of Dasha Zhukova, the ex-wife of oil billionaire and Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich , frequently described as a politically connected Russian oligarch. (The U.S. government famously seized his yacht in 2022 while attempting to enforce sanctions after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.)

News of the engagement was first reported by the New York Times , which described Zhukova as a former molecular biologist who had worked at the University of California at Los Angeles.

If it feels like déjà vu, there’s a reason. Nearly a year ago, Murdoch announced his engagement to Ann Lesley Smith , a former model, singer-songwriter and police chaplain. “I was very nervous. I dreaded falling in love — but I knew this would be my last. It better be. I’m happy,” he told the New York Post at the time.

But less than a month later, he called off the engagement. Vanity Fair reported that Murdoch had become “increasingly uncomfortable with Smith’s outspoken evangelical views.”

By August, though, just four months later, he had connected with Zhukova. According to the Guardian , the two met at a family gathering hosted by Murdoch’s fourth ex-wife, Wendi Deng. Soon, they were spotted on yachts together .

Before his brief engagement to Smith, Murdoch was married for six years to former supermodel and actress Jerry Hall, whom he divorced in 2022. Before that, he was married to Deng, a former News Corp employee, from 1999 to 2014. He divorced his second wife, Anna , in 1999 after 32 years of marriage. His first wife was Patricia Booker, to whom he was married from 1956 to 1967.

Murdoch’s recent busy dating history follows a tumultuous time in his career. Last fall, he stepped down from his role as chairman of Fox News parent company Fox Corp. and News Corp., becoming chairman emeritus at both companies and passing the torch to his son Lachlan — though the patriarch said he would remain “active” in the oversight of the companies, and Murdoch-watchers predicted that the famously hands-on boss would not retreat from the business entirely.

Murdoch, and the companies he founded, are still dealing with the fallout from Fox News’s coverage of the 2020 election. In late November, Murdoch was deposed as part of a $2.7 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Fox by the voting technology company Smartmatic. Murdoch also underwent a brutal under-oath grilling by lawyers for the voting technology company Dominion, though he was able to avoid taking the stand in the case when his company reached a settlement for $787.5 million .

Fox’s lawyers had argued to the judge in the Dominion case that Murdoch and other executives should not be forced to testify in the case due to “hardships,” but the judge had offered that Murdoch might be compelled to do so anyway.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

murdoch yacht

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

murdoch yacht

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

murdoch yacht

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

murdoch yacht

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

murdoch yacht

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

murdoch yacht

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

murdoch yacht

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
