All-New Princess S72 Review (2022 Edition)

The Princess S72 is a powerhouse of a sportsbridge cruiser with the thumping performance to match its drop-dead gorgeous design 

The Princess S72 may be based on the Y72 but it feels very different. Sleeker and more powerful, this 50-tonne, four-cabin cruiser will reach a top speed of nearly 40 knots and look very good while it's doing it.

The sportsbridge design incorporates both a large flybridge deck and a sizeable glass sunroof over the saloon with a cabin arrangement that is shared with the Y72 and incorporates private access to a full-beam owner's suite. Powered by the largest pair of 1,800hp MAN V12s it will cruise comfortably at 32 knots and cover over 350nm at 25 knots. We think it might be the best S Class model and possibly the best Princess product ever. Read on to find out if it is.

The S72 is a big old beast but once you get to grips with its dimensions, it's an easy boat to control at slow speed. With two helms and an optional third station in the cockpit, you should get a good vantage point for various berths. From the flybridge, for example, you have a great view forward and can see the bathing platform through the deck hatch, so most maneuvers will probably be done from up there. 

An experienced two-person crew should be able to handle her just fine, though as always on a boat this big, it could be the handling of lines and fenders that could prove trickier than the physical handling of the boat. It's an easy boat to move around on, though, and there is good stowage for mooring equipment.

Although it may not have the joystick intuitiveness of the triple IPS Azimut S7, there is still plenty of slow speed control thanks to the meaty 1,800hp MAN motors and Sleipner's brilliant proportional thrusters. There's so much grunt from the motors that even with just one in gear you'll be pushing along at over 7 knots so you'll be in and out of gear quite a lot for some marina approaches. 

Unleashing all 3,600hp is quite the experience. There is no way the S72 should be able to surge onto the plane and obliterate the 30-knot barrier with such ease. Keep the throttles pinned and this 50-ton beast tops out at close to 40 knots in such a relaxed fashion you can't help but raise a smile. The astonishing thing is the second surge after 25 knots. Bury the throttles at 1,600rpm and there's a secondary launch as the bow lifts a touch and the S72 charges like a rocket towards the horizon. 

The Princess S72 effortlessly covers nautical miles, cruising at 25 knots feels leisurely with its top speed reaching an exhilarating 40 knots. With a fuel capacity of 4,500 liters, it boasts over 350nm of range at this speed. Dropping the throttles and feeling the surge towards its top speed is undeniably thrilling, and while not necessary, it's incredibly fun. Alternatively, if cruising at a slower pace is preferred, the planing hull can comfortably transition to displacement speed, extending the range to well over 2,000nm at 10 knots. As a result, the S72 offers remarkable flexibility in cruising performance.

Our test boat required a few too many turns lock-to-lock, which took the edge off the handling. It's still mightily impressive, though, and much like the straight-line performance it defies physics the way that Princess has made something so large and comfortable as agile as it is. 

We didn't get to challenge the hull in rough conditions but any waves we did cross were dealt with as if they weren't there. It's so quiet from the lower helm that you would hear any squeaks, rattles, or slams but there were none. The S72 feels like a robust, high-quality machine that will look after you in big seas. Similar to its Mercedes (S Class) namesake traveling at high speed down the fast lane of an Autobahn. Utterly unflustered luxury. 

Design & Build

The S72 is based on its flybridge cousin, the Y72. The similarities are limited to the hull and accommodation layout, though, because the S Class feels like a very different boat to be onboard.

The S Class range is a stylistic triumph but we reckon the S72 might be the best-looking boat in the current Princess range. It hides its size so well thanks to that beautifully sleek profile but there is a muscularity and a poise to it out on the water that is so appealing. They've even managed to incorporate a little hard top without upsetting the flow (it does look better without it, though). 

The lower deck accommodation may be the same as the Y72 but the S has a tender garage at its aft end to keep the bathing platform clear of obstructions and maintain those sweeping lines. The compromise is a smaller crew cabin with two bunks and a separate bathroom, though this style of boat is less likely to be run with a crew than the Y Class on which it is based.

The inherited Y Class layout is a good one because it includes private access to the full-beam owner's cabin from the saloon with a forward companionway to the three ensuite guest cabins.

The real beauty of the sportsbridge design is that you get both a flybridge and a sunroof over the saloon, in this case, a glass one that peels back to bathe the helm station and forward seating positions in sunlight. At this size the flybridge, though smaller than a regular flybridge, is still a really good size with all you need to serve guests on the top deck. 

Interior Accommodation

There's nothing revolutionary about the layout of the S72's saloon but it's so beautifully put together. Princess Design Studio has done it again with an interior that is inviting, restrained, softly curved, and beautifully appointed. At the production boat level, it doesn't get any better, in our opinion.

The U-shaped galley is arranged aft with a pop-up window that fires up to the ceiling to link the cockpit to the galley and create a bar area in between. The benefit of having the galley aft is that it's part of the action so whether you're rustling up breakfast or shaking some cocktails you can still be part of the conversation in the main saloon. The dinette is well-placed opposite the galley and its table opens up so you could comfortably serve six adults at the internal dining table if you needed to.

Amidships, the deepest part of the side windows align with the saloon and main seating area. It's a lovely space that benefits from the luxury of floor space and some gorgeous detailing, such as the armchair perfectly integrated into the cabinet opposite the sofa. It's a glorious spot to sit and enjoy the remarkable views through those massive windows. 

A very positive hangover from the Y72 is the raised pilot station to port, opposite the helm. It provides space for two (maybe three) people to sit and enjoy the ride on the main deck and the pop-out laptop table enables someone to work from this area, too. It is quite the spot to fire off some emails.

The beauty of the S72's layout below the deck is the levels of privacy. Guests have access to their three cabins forward, two of which are ensuite, while the owner enjoys private access on the port side of the saloon to a splendid full-beam suite. It's a special cabin with acres of space and a particularly impressive ensuite that runs nearly the full width of the boat. Located behind the bed, it also acts as a useful extra layer of insulation between the engine room and cabin spaces. 

The cabin isn't just good to look at, it's practical too. There are big wardrobes adjacent to the bathroom and a dressing area that is separate from the bureau positioned beneath the hull window. Even the staircase down to the cabin has wine bottle storage neatly integrated behind it and there's a big laundry cupboard in the lobby.

Guest Cabins 

Forward, there are two near-identical twin cabins, both with the option to have electric sliding berths, which is useful. The only difference between the two is that the port side cabin has direct access to the day head, whereas those in the starboard twin will have to cross the lobby to use it. Forward there's a lovely VIP suite, with a private bathroom and enough storage to keep guests happy on longer cruises. 

Helm Station

The driving position from the upper helm is excellent. It's a big dashboard with lots of kit but it still feels intimate and all of the major controls are within easy reach. The helm chair is close to the centerline so the all-around view is very good and there is space between the two helm seats so the navigator can slip out without disturbing the skipper.

It's a helm position that suits the boat's performance. You want to engage with it because its performance is so engaging, but equally if you want to sit back and relax at what feels like a relatively relaxed 25 knots it's a comfortable place to sit for longer cruises. With twin Raymarine MFDs flanking a Böning digital command system, you have great oversight of all of the boat's systems and navigation software. 

If anything, things improve at the lower helm where the comfort of those at the helm has been a primary focus. The seats are gorgeous and have a Bentley-like look and feel. They're adjustable and have tall backrests so you can position yourself close to the helm but sit right back in them when you're cruising. It's the same triple-screen arrangement as upstairs but there is a remote control for them on the lower dash as they're more of a stretch to use the touchscreens. 

It's a very easy helm to ventilate, too. Between the sunroof, windows on both sides, and the helm door you can fine-tune the amount of natural breeze depending on conditions, and, of course, the side door makes communication with crew and passage onto the side decks when berthing very easy indeed.

It's incredibly quiet, too. Bearing in mind that there is 3,600hp roaring away in the engine room it's remarkable that at a 25-knot cruise, we were seeing sound readings of around 73-75 decibels. It's one of the most refined cruising machines in the sector and this hushed cruising progress is a major reason why. 

The tender garage informs the design of the S72's stern and allows it to gently curve toward the hydraulic bathing platform. All of this boat's key rivals (see Rivals section, below) have tender garages and the S72's are large enough to swallow a 3.9m tender. Atop this is a decent sun pad, which backs onto a U-shaped dinette with modular end seats that can be unpinned and moved around the deck. 

The cockpit feels more protected than those of the Azimut S7 and Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht and there is less seating. If you want sheer living space on deck then the other two are probably a better bet but the Princess has a more spacious feeling saloon. As an option, you can have either a unit with a fridge up against the saloon doors or a small L-shaped bench if you want a little more seating in this area. It does have much better protection because the flybridge overhang covers more of the cockpit than is usually the case with a sportsbridge design. 

Teak is optional on the side decks and it's one that our test boat had. It's not cheap (see Value for Money, below) but it brightens up the deck spaces and adds to the feeling of quality, especially on the foredeck. It's an important part of a sportsbridge design given the smaller footprint of the top deck and Princess has done a good job here.

Again, it's not doing anything new but it's well executed. There is a broad bench running beneath the windscreen separated from a pair of adjustable sun pads by a walkway. A low table provides a space to serve drinks and snacks and deep storage bins on either side take care of the boat's fenders. 

There are no level changes in this area and the wide side decks with tall railings and substantial toe rails make the S72 an easy boat to crew, despite its size. 

At this scale, the top deck may be smaller than a traditional flybridge but the amount of living space is still really good. The port side is dominated by seating and split between a sizeable dinette, aft, and some additional seating opposite the two-person helm, forward. A wet bar with grill, sink, and fridge is neatly incorporated into the aft corner of the deck with a separate storage unit at the top of the flybridge steps, which offers easy passage between the two decks.

The hard top is an option that the market demands but it's a pricey option that does little to improve the sleek profile of the S72. It doesn't have a sunroof, either, so is less flexible than the cheaper Bimini option. 

Value For Money

The base price for a Princess S72 is  GBP £5,156,285/USD $6,505,000 ex VAT (correct at the time of writing). This is in line with its rivals, which are all mainly from high-quality production shipyards in Europe. You don't expect a bargain from Princess but the build quality and attention to detail more than justify the elevated price and the boats tend to come with a healthy standard spec. That said, there are some key cost options that we think are worth adding, detailed below. 

Our Options & Pick

The Seakeeper isn't a must on this size of boat but if you plan to spend a lot of time away from the marina it will make life a lot more comfortable. And if you have resale in mind then most secondhand buyers will be looking for this on the kit list so they don't have to go to the hassle of retrofitting one. It's the best part of £150,000 to add as an option at build and it is worth it. 

The (£66,000) hard top is another option you may want to choose for the same reason. There's no question that the cheaper bimini is a more flexible option that has less of an impact on the boat's looks but many customers won't even consider a boat of this size without a hard top. 

The sunroof is a £23,000 option that should be standard as the whole point of a sportsbridge is that you get the combo of sunroof and flybridge. Either way, it's a must-have. 

Teak is standard in the cockpit but the £25,000 spent on the teak side decks and foredeck is worth it as it elevates the feeling of luxury as you move around the boat. The boat just looks a little plain without it, too. 

Some options, like a passerelle for example, will depend on where the boat is going to be kept but air-conditioning is a wise investment. It's a split gas system with 162,000 BTU that is suitable for ambient temperatures up to 50°C.

The S72 is a bit of an engineering marvel. Something this large and luxurious should not be able to travel at such high speed and handle with this amount of tenacity and grace. Looks are subjective but we reckon it might be the best-looking boat in the current Princess range and quite possibly the best-looking boat that Princess has ever made, though we'll reserve judgment until the S80 arrives. It's not just aesthetic, though, the S72 is well-thought-out, high quality and has excellent living accommodation both above and below deck. In the world of big sportsbridges the Princess, quite appropriately, wears the crown.

 There are a few big, tasty sportsbridges on the market that offer some competition to the S72.

The Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht shares a platform with the sportscruiser Predator 75 and it's a modern example of Sunseeker doing what it does best. The 75 Sport Yacht is a big sexy thing with a long pointy bow and massive power thanks to the same MAN engine options as the Princess. Expect performance from the twin shaft drive setup to be very similar, too. It has a decent tender garage, like the S72, but its cockpit feels quite a bit larger thanks to the wraparound seating and shorter flybridge overhang. Inside, it's more flexible with the possibility of having the galley up or down and three or four cabins on the lower deck. It's not quite as pretty as the Princess but it stands out more.

Talking of pretty, for a fairly hefty price premium you could step aboard the frankly outrageously gorgeous Riva 76 Perseo . It's smaller than the Princess and the top deck is much more of a traditional sportsbridge than the scaled-down flybridge of the Princess but if it's exclusivity you're after then look no further. There's more form over function going on here but it's a Riva, so what do you expect? The interior is a festival of polished wood, stainless steel and sharp corners but it has a style all of its own. It's available with two or three cabins and it's also a member of the V12 MAN club, promising 37 knots with the twin 1,800s.

The Azimut S7 is not a member of the club as it runs triple IPS1050 with 800hp each. The power-to-weight ratio is preferable according to Azimut and it also delivers easy joystick docking which, as good as shaftdrive joysticks are these days, is still the best if you want single stick control. It's a smaller boat than the Princess so there isn't the cabin space on the lower deck - though it still has the same number of cabins - but it still has space for a full beam owner's suite and a tender garage out back large enough for a Williams jet RIB. It's a great-looking boat, too, with a Yachtique interior that really stands out.

Princess S72

The cockpit features a unique sociable U-shaped seating area with modular seating, folding teak table and servery unit – the perfect place to entertain, or to sit back, relax, and enjoy the yacht’s exhilarating performance. If you want a sportbridge yacht that covers all bases, the Princess S72 could be the answer. Alex Smith takes it out for a sea trial

Modern boaters seem to love multi-purpose flexibility. That’s why so many expandable decks and convertible furniture solutions are permeating the market and flexibility is something that the Princess S72 offers in spades.

The love of flexibility is also why four-season adventure boats and voluminous power cats are gaining so much traction. And that’s why pretty much every major flybridge manufacturer seems so intent on offering its clientele a hybrid-style sportbridge alternative…

The sportbridge deck layout

The base principle behind any sportbridge motoryacht is to introduce a relatively compact flybridge further aft and deeper down – and the idea behind that is to help reduce the elevation and drop the weight, so the user can enjoy a great many of the benefits of a traditional flybridge but with looks and performance more akin to a sportsboat. Even on first acquaintance, it’s clear that the Princess S72 runs with that principle in a very big way.

The fly deck is so low-slung that it has virtually no impact on the profile at all, and the furniture collaborates with that very effectively. The convertible dinette and sunbed on the foredeck, for instance, perch way down low, beneath the level of the peripheral side-deck mouldings.

It means that the Princess S72’s seating errs very much on the casual (rather than formal) side of things, but in addition to cleaning up the aesthetic, this approach also makes each zone feel significantly more spacious.

That’s particularly true on the flybridge, where the low-level seating is integrated around the periphery of the deck. While there is an option for a hard top (like that pictured), our test boat uses a bimini instead.

It’s folded flat and flush, ahead of the low-profile wind deflector and it all helps this boat feel extraordinarily wide open, while looking about as sleek and raked as it’s possible for a flybridge-equipped boat to be.

It’s particularly interesting then that when you head down to the main deck saloon, the impact of that sunken sportbridge feels very minor indeed. You can see where the deckhead dips amidships, and in spite of the fact that the saloon is all on one level and step-free, a six-footer still gets at least a foot of space above their head.

It looks good too, not least because Princess has incorporated a set of winding, semi-linear LED strips into the ceiling that meander their way aft and continue out into the ceiling above the external cockpit seating.

It does a great job of providing a stylistic, as well as physical, link between the inside and outside zones, but before we investigate that further, it’s worth acknowledging another benefit of the sportbridge concept – a large sunroof above the lower helm for a main deck that feels far brighter and more open than that of a conventional flybridge motoryacht.

The saloon layout makes good use of that with three seating zones: a raised companion section opposite the helm; a central lounge area framed on both sides by plunging windows; and an aft L-shaped dinette, integrated into the port side opposite the aft galley.

In the standard fit-out, there’s a storage cabinet with a wine fridge and a lifting TV opposite the central lounge area but you can add a neat little armchair here too, built into the cabinetry for extra sociability without any major impact on storage space or functionality.

A better aft end

In contrast to the Y72, a relatively short saloon illustrates the fact that this boat is actually more about usable outdoor space than outright internal volume and the cockpit reflects that.

At the aft end of the saloon, the starboard galley projects out onto the external deck, thanks to a large bar with a hinge-up window and three-part sliding patio doors. A full-height fridge-freezer and ice-maker are well positioned to serve those in the aft cockpit and the seating is set up to take advantage of that.

In addition to a wraparound C-shaped dinette with fold-out table, there’s a neat little corner seat on the port side, nestling into the apex of the superstructure’s aft bulkhead for lovely protection from the elements.

You can also spec this as a service unit with storage and a fridge – and if you do so, it’s good to know that the dinette’s two inward-facing seats can be disconnected from the deck and relocated for a more natural face-to-face meal.

That said, the arrangement of the Princess S72 feels even more rewarding as you move toward the very back end. While the equivalent Y Class model uses a transverse crew cabin, the space here is split between a port tender garage and a fore-and-aft crew cabin on the starboard side.

There’s plenty of space in the garage for a 3.9m tender and the lid is also used for a clever cabinet that can be opened at chest height, enabling you to slide your Sea Bobs in and out with ease.

There’s also an elevated sunbed with raised headrests and peripheral rails on top of this big aft unit. That’s easily big enough for four or five people and although there’s no option to spec the twin ensuite crew cabin as anything else, it does a great job either for extra storage or as an overspill cabin, adding an extra couple of bunks to the berths provided by the four cabins further forward.

The way the engineroom is configured is also very user-friendly. The main section, which houses pretty much nothing but the engines, is cordoned off by a solid bulkhead from an engineering space further aft and to port.

That houses the generator, the Seakeeper and the batteries, and separating the two spaces off from one another like this has plenty of benefits. For a start, the smaller engine bay naturally helps limit reverberation, as illustrated by the fact that we register just 66.5Db of noise at the lower helm during a 20-knot cruise.

It also provides some useful extra separation between the noise of the generator and the lower deck accommodation. And while it certainly limits the space around the engines themselves, it also means that if you want to inspect your auxiliary equipment after a passage, you no longer have to do so in a hot engine bay.

Y Class accommodation

The Princess S72 adopts the same four-cabin arrangement as the Y72, with a forward VIP and a full-beam owner’s cabin, split by a pair of bathrooms and a pair of guest twins. But while the VIP’s starboard ensuite is relatively long, the port bathroom (and day heads) is orchestrated in a broadly transverse direction.

That enables the port cabin to shift a little further forward than the starboard one – and this cleverly staggered arrangement also helps free up some extra space further aft for that most welcome of features: a private owner’s staircase.

Accessed behind the main deck companion seating, the spiral stairs take you down to a transverse entry hall, with a full-height mirror and lots of storage built into the forward bulkhead. Stepping aft, the owner’s cabin itself occupies a completely regular space with no dip in ceiling height or fluctuation in deck level.

It’s bookended on either side by enormously deep hull windows and it’s backed up by a transverse bathroom that distances it from the engine bay. There’s also a big storage space back here, plus an integrated dressing table to starboard of the bed and a built-in settee to port.

The VIP cabin is also a good size, with a raised central bed, high-level storage and plenty of hanging storage. In spite of the fact that there’s a big washer-dryer integrated into the central companionway’s starboard locker, the VIP’s starboard ensuite also does a good job with an uneven space, providing a good size of separate rain shower.

And in the smaller twin cabins, the management of space is equally thoughtful. Each drop in deckhead level is matched by a corresponding drop in the deck itself to help optimise ergonomics and ease of movement.

There is also plenty of storage, both in hanging lockers and in under-bed drawers and the satin walnut finish down here feels particularly attractive thanks to the use of contrasting fabric bulkhead panels.

Pace and poise

It’s a lively day in Plymouth, with robust southwesterlies stoking up some agitated four-footers so we nestle quietly into the shelter of Cawsand Bay to compile our performance figures.

Now according to the guys at Princess, the base MAN V12 1600s will see this boat to around 36 knots, but with the test boat’s uprated 1800s, we have no trouble at all pushing on toward the 39-knot mark. That’s a good haul for a 75ft boat that weighs more than 50 metric tonnes and our range is also pretty strong.

In fact, in addition to our standard 4,500 litre tanks, the test boat is fitted with the optional range-extending 900-litre bow tank so at cruising speeds, the test boat looks particularly long-legged.

Everything from 20 to 27 knots returns efficiency figures of 12 to 13 litres per mile for a range of 330 to 350 miles. But even without factoring in that optional tank, we’re still seeing a range of between 200 and 300 miles at everything from 20 to 37 knots.

Once we pop out beyond the shelter of the headland, it’s also interesting to see how the Princess S72 handles itself. As you would expect of a boat with such significant forward volume, the ride is serviceably soft and dry rather than brilliantly so.

But while the wipers are busy clearing saltwater from the screen, it’s the refined and easy composure of the experience that really hits home. In spite of a thick frame for the skipper’s side door and a central stanchion in the two-piece screen, visibility is very good from the lower helm.

Sound readings are also every bit as cruise-friendly as the engine arrangement suggests they ought to be. And just as the handling of this low-slung cruiser feels crisp and obedient, so the windage is conspicuous by its absence, enabling you to helm this boat through complex sea states with very little to think about except your pace and direction.

Princess S72 verdict

The Princess S72 feels like a modern masterclass in conceptual common sense. While various other boats in the Princess fleet feel quite specific in their market and applications, this is a genuine crowd pleaser.

It marries the style and dynamism of a V Class sportscruiser with the space and practicality of an F Class flybridge, and it combines all of that with the kind of scale and luxury you might expect at the entry point to the celebrated Y Class.

There’s nothing radically new or different in that of course; nothing that leaves you especially surprised or taken aback. But from the cleverly arranged lower deck and the sleek S Class aesthetic to the brilliantly practical aft end, the wide-open external spaces, the bright, sociable saloon and the intelligently considered options, the line this boat treads is supremely well judged.

So whether you’re a committed Princess fan, a newcomer to the brand, a seasoned traditionalist or a youthful party boater, you can rest assured –, this is a Princess pretty much everyone can enjoy.

On board the Princess S72 that’s designed for sociable living

BOAT International spoke to Joe Hill, large yacht sales director and head of brokerage at Princess Motor Yacht Sales, to discover what sets this exceptional boat apart.

Style and function

From the moment you lay eyes on the Princess S72, its sweeping profile is sure to turn heads. Awarded Best Exterior Design at the World Yachts Trophies 2023, the yacht's beautiful full-length hull windows not only enhance its visual appeal but also flood the interior with natural light, creating an open and spacious atmosphere.

Inside, the S72 boasts various innovative, functional design features. The spacious foredeck, for example, features sunbeds with integrated adjustable headrests, which can be transformed into additional aft-facing seats. Meanwhile, a locker between the sunbeds serves as an additional cool box.

The triple-sliding saloon doors establish a harmonious connection between the exterior and interior, while the cockpit bar seamlessly connects to the galley. “When you've got the sunroof open in the saloon, the pantograph door open and the windows open, it really does feel like you're in an outdoor boat,” says Hill.

The stern houses a generous garage capable of comfortably accommodating a 3.9-metre tender and two Seabobs, whilst the stern platform can also carry a Jet Ski. "With the tender in the garage, two Seabobs and a Jet Ski, you've got a pretty loaded boat in terms of toys," notes Hill. "There is also a lot of space on top of the tender for some paddleboards, and you wouldn't need to deflate them because there's enough length there."

A social hub

The Princess S72 is designed with sociable living in mind. The cockpit features a unique U-shaped seating area with modular seating, a folding teak table and a servery unit, creating a perfect space for entertaining or simply relaxing while enjoying the yacht's exhilarating performance.

The upper deck's sportbridge invites outdoor living with a large U-shaped dining area, wet bar with a barbecue and L-shaped seating that transforms into a sunbed. For those seeking further shade and protection from the elements, the flybridge is available with a T-Top.

Space and comfort

Below deck, the Princess S72 provides a luxurious experience for up to eight guests in four beautifully appointed cabins, three of which are ensuite. The elegant hull glazing bathes the cabins in natural light. The spacious, full-beam owner’s cabin amidships has a separate staircase entrance from the saloon, providing the owner with an extra level of privacy and exclusivity. There is a further VIP stateroom forward and two twin cabins on the port and starboard side. Additionally, a twin cabin with an ensuite is located aft for crew or occasional guests. The crew has their own access to this cabin via the transom alongside the tender garage.

An owner’s paradise

The Princess S72 is perfect for a more hands-on owner who has a passion for the sea and yachting. “The design of the yacht is influenced by Princess Yachts' owner-operator design philosophy," explains Hill. “The galley is placed aft, making it the centrepiece of the social space and is accessible from both the cockpit and the saloon.”

The driving position is designed for comfort and control, allowing the owner to easily get involved with the handling of the boat.

Speed and performance

The Princess S72 is not just about luxury and design, it's built for performance. The resin-infused deep-V hull ensures efficiency and a smooth ride. "The S72 shares the same hull as the Y72, which is very proven and has been around for a number of years," says Hill.

With twin MAN V12 1,800hp engines, she can reach impressive speeds. “She was given a design speed off the drawing board of 34 to 36 knots, but she’s actually achieved a touch over 40. So she's exceeded the performance expectations of the designers.”

Her impressive performance means her handling is similar to that of a much smaller boat. “She’s very comfortable, quiet and stable off the plane," adds Hill. "She’ll stay on the plane at around 14 knots, which is very impressive."

The cockpit features a unique sociable U-shaped seating area with modular seating, folding teak table and servery unit – the perfect place to entertain, or to sit back, relax, and enjoy the yacht’s exhilarating performance. The cockpit bar connects to the galley unit to create an almost seamless transition from outside to in, with a glass window partition which folds up from the unit below to provide servery access when entertaining. Triple-sliding saloon doors create a harmonious connection from exterior to interior, which is accentuated with an elegant lighting design feature which flows from the outside headlining through to the main saloon.

The saloon is designed for sociable living, with a large L-shaped dining area opposite the fully equipped galley, leading to a cavernous main deck saloon with U-shaped sofa, Princess Design Studio coffee table, and an elegant sideboard unit containing a 55” UHD LED TV on rise and fall, plus companion seating with fold out table opposite the main helm. At the helm, two bespoke Princess helm seats are positioned for optimum visibility and control beside a pantograph helmsman’s door, whilst a large opening roof can reveal the main deck to the elements. Systems are accessed through an integrated Böning vessel monitoring system while, for entertainment, a Naim audio system is installed throughout the saloon, master stateroom and sportbridge. Below deck, eight guests enjoy four beautifully appointed en-suite cabins, all bathed in natural light from elegant hull glazing, with a further twin cabin aft for occasional guests or crew. A dedicated staircase leads from the main deck to the full-beam owner’s stateroom amidships, via a private lobby area in the lower companionway.

The sensational Princess X80 mini superyacht won a Motor Boat Award in the ‘Custom Yachts’ category, held by Motor Boat & Yachting magazine in January.

Her beautifully sculpted surfaces and long flowing design lines carry the same design language of her sister ship, the Princess X95.  The all-new X80 becomes the second member of the X Class ‘Superfly’ family.  She has a ‘super flybridge’ providing in excess of 30% more useful interior space onboard than a traditional flybridge yacht of its length.  And her cruising range capabilities provides the opportunity for adventures and exploration further afield.

Princess Michael’s Russian tycoon friend shot dead in Moscow

A wealthy Russian businessman who became friends with Princess Michael of Kent has been murdered in an apparent contract killing.

Mikhail Kravchenko, who owned a large chain of furniture stores, was shot at least six times in the chest and head when his car was ambushed yards from his home in the village of Peredelkino, just outside Moscow. Police are investigating whether he could have been the victim of a business dispute with rivals.

Mr Kravchenko, 46, was returning to his house in the early hours of Sunday morning when his Mercedes was overtaken by another vehicle, which then blocked the road in front of him. Police said that two men with handguns opened fire on his car.

Mr Kravchenko was hit in the chest

It takes something very special to impress the jilted residents of the exclusive French town of St. Tropez. Years ago we brought this depot for the rich and famous to a standstill arriving with Virgin Atlantic Challenger II, but we had just set a record across the Atlantic. Sprinting into the port with the striking new, 40-knot Pershing 115 did not quite have the same impact, but this beautiful yacht did stop onlookers in their tracks as they stood and stared.

With the 115, Pershing joins a select band of boatbuilders who are going over the 100-foot mark, taking a quantum leap from the 88-foot former flagship design. This yacht has twice the volume of anything Pershing has ever built. Moreover I was on the first hull and for a prototype design they have done a really superb job of meeting their design and perfomance goals.

Pershing boss Till Antonelli is justifiably proud of the 115. “We knew there was a market out there for a larger Pershing and I think we took a bold step in making the jump straight from 88 to 115 feet. The result is there for all to see and it is a tribute to our new factory and the people who work there, Antonelli says.

The power behind this monster is a pair of 16 cylinder MTU diesels from the 4000 range that produce 3,700 hp each. These engines are huge and they seem to stretch forever along the engine compartment. They are coupled to ZF gearboxes and then the drive goes to KaMeWa water jets in what proved to be a very smooth power train. The water jets are unique in that the inlet ducts of the jets are an integral part of the hull molding which gives a better water flow to the impellers and improves their efficiency.

The two diesels have ample space between them and you see the reason for this when you look aft and see the molding in place for a third water jet. This gives the option to install a centerline TF50 gas turbine to bring the total power up to 13,000 hp. Now you are talking real excitement, and this installation is planned for the next unit that is already under construction. Look for speeds of over 55 knots from this second yacht, speeds that are squarely situated in the Pershing performance territory.

Access to the engine compartment is via a door in the cockpit which leads first to an auxiliary room with the switchboard, watermaker and air conditioning. Forward of this are the crew’s quarters and galley. Stairs lead up from the galley directly into the saloon, close by the dining table, and there is also a dumbwaiter for larger trays. The galley is fitted with all you need for sophisticated meal preparation and the styling, even in these working areas of the yacht, is a close match to the stunning guest areas.

Back aft, the swim platform that protects the water jets is bigger than the average sportsboat. Stairs lead up on both sides to the cockpit, and between them is the garage for the Zodiac tender together with its launching crane. You don’t need to skimp on the water toys on this yacht because there is a second garage that is revealed by raising part of the forward coach roof, housing two jet skis with another launching crane.

The 115 is full of more surprises and one of them comes from opening the door on the right of the saloon entrance. Here there is a stairway winding up to a very private sun deck sitting above the pilothouse. I was trying to determine why there was no sunroof on this yacht similar to those found on other Pershings-this sun deck was the reason. There is another, more public sunpad in the cockpit together with settees and a table, but the upper area is going to be everybody’s favorite.

The sliding saloon doors make an impressive entrance and walking into the saloon takes your breath away. There is none of the rich wood panelling so often found on superyachts, but here the designers have created a beautiful and light, almost minimalistic area with only the dining chairs and the blue leather locker fronts providing color. The settees are white leather, the woodwork a very pale gray-tinted ash, and the sides and overhead a very pale cream.

Quality is enhanced by integral modern artwork above the entrance door and on two of the side window pillars. The relaxing lounge area is aft and a dining table for 10 is forward in a open plan arrangement. Forward at the helm there are three imposing adjustable seats that create what looks like an altar to high performance.

The captain sits in the center chair, which is flanked by the engine and jet controls fitted into the armrests. Here he is master of all he surveys and he really can play tunes with the sensitive machinery controls. In front of him there are seven screens that provide all the information needed for high speed navigation and control, plus sophisticated monitoring systems. The latter have been specially developed by Pershing to control and monitor everything on board except the main engines. The engines have their own MTU dedicated displays and there is a separate display for monitoring the water jet. Large Simrad radar and chart displays provide a full picture of the navigation scene.

A couple of steps down from saloon level takes you into what is virtually a private cinema. Wide lounging settees and chairs face a big flat screen that can be fed from video, DVD or cable or satellite TV. This will be a popular evening relaxing area. Another stairway takes you to the staterooms where the layout is about the only conventional thing on this yacht: a master, a VIP and two twin cabins.

These are all decorated in a similar minimalistic style but with strong colors added through the leather bed bases, the mirror trims and the bright silk bed covers. The result is both modern and restful, with the spacious master stateroom occupying the full beam and featuring an angled bed and deep side windows to give natural light. The VIP stateroom in the bow is almost semi-circular in shape and large enough to have its own settee.

The heads have the same pale gray wood and modern fittings, including hemispherical glass basins. The soles here are wood but have metal strip inserts to give good grip when wet. The extravagant quality of the master stateroom can be seen in the fitting of his-and-her heads for the use of the owners.

The interior of this yacht may be stunning but it is the exterior styling that really sets the scene. The hull has the navy blue and silver combination that was pioneered by Pershing and has since been copied by many. This color scheme complements the series of rising curves that forms the superstructure and, like so much about this design, everything looks well integrated. The practical aspects of the design have been well thought out in most areas, but you only really appreciate the true quality of this yacht out on the water at speed.

We ran the 115 from Cannes to St.Tropez, which is a well-worn path for fast motoryachts. You appreciate one of the qualities of water jet drive with the very delicate maneuvering that is possible with this big yacht. Despite her size you can inch her forward or sideways delicately close to the dock, yet she will spin like a top when you need a quick response. It takes some skill and familiarity with the controls to get to this level of control but the effort is well worthwhile.

Out at sea the response is immediate and thrilling. The thrust from the jets powers the yacht onto plane and keeps it accelerating right up to its terminal velocity. The lack of vibration is impressive, and steering control is delicate and precise when you switch from the steerable joystick controls to the wheel steering. For trim adjustment, the 115 uses the latest interceptor system rather than trim tabs and these give an immediate response that reduces the adjustment period.

On our run down to St.Tropez we had a race with the TGV high-speed train along the coast. The train won that one, but there was no doubt we were fastest on the water that day. Pershing has found just the right balance in this yacht. This design has all the style you want to impress others, both inside and out, yet this is combined with very comfortable living on board. As for performance, 40 knots will meet most requirements but if you want to outrun everything on the water then you can always invest in the gas turbine option. Then maybe, you might even beat that train.

The 35m. "REBOOT" is part of the groundbreaking Pershing 115 series that has marked the world of high-performance world in a way that very few have. Built in composite in 2004 under the name "DON'T TOUCH", this iconic yacht was the first of a very successful series of 11 yachts built in total by Pershing. Her twin MTU 16V4000 series diesel engines (total horse power of 7200) transmit through Kamewa waterjets to allow this 189 gross ton maxi-yacht speeds of up to 40 knots. Just off an extensive technical and cosmetic refit, she is ready to be experienced by the most demanding performer.

The pershing range stands out for its superior performance, continuous stylistic development, top quality materials and painstakingly designed interiors that offer ultimate comfort. advanced construction methods, powerful engines reaching 7400 mhp and the use of surface propellers , hydrojets and gas turbines all combine to give pershing yachts a distinctively sporting trim and up to 50 knot peak speeds..

Pershing yachts are produced in the Mondolfo shipyard (located right in front of the original yard) , a futuristic site of 53,000 square metres – out of which more than 36,000 are open air – designed by the architect Sandro Sartini . This is not just a production site: this is a striking scenario, which perfectly matches beauty, technology, functionality, and dream, a space painstakingly designed for enhancing the continuous development of the range, also in terms of yacht sizes.

The new production site features a large and innovative painting booth of 4400 sq. m, where boats are dry painted. The test basin (33 m long, 7.5 m wide and 2.3 m deep) is used for all hydraulic tests (engines, exhausts, bilges, and generators) and for waterproofing tests of yachts. The travel lift, with a carrying capacity of 130 tons, completes activities with ship haulage and launching in the test basin. The brand is in constant search for new ideas and new paths for a further international growth. Pershing stands out for its capacity to customize its models according to the different needs of any new market worldwide.

The motor yacht PERSHING 115/2 is a 35 metre 115 (foot) well sized composite vessel which was newly built at Pershing (Ferretti Group) and devised by Ferretti Group Engineering Division . Sleeping 10 passengers and 4 crew members, motor yacht PERSHING 115/2 was named 115/2 .

The naval architecture office that made the design with respect to the yacht is Ferretti Group Engineering Division . Further, the interior designing was sucessful creation of Fulvio De Simoni . The Pershing 115 motor yacht combines capable sea going qualities with a very impressive cruising speed. The Pershing 115 is fitted with engines varying in size depending on the boat and they range from 3,700 hp and an impressive 42 knots cruising speed to 5,000 hp gas turbine and a seriously fast 55 knots cruising speed! The Perishing 115 combines this superior performance with comfortable conditions and sleek attractive lines.

Powered by twin MTU / TEXTRON LYCOMING gas turbine engines, PERSHING 115/2 will attain a top speed of 55 knots. Coupled to the PERSHING 115/2 engines are twin water jets.
