Used ‘van buyer’s guide – Mobilvetta Euroyacht motorhome
If you're searching for used motorhomes for sale but you still want some luxury, we think the Mobilvetta Euroyacht A-class motorhomes are worth considering
Published: October 10, 2014
Luxurious and powerful, the Mobilvetta Euroyacht A-class motorhomes built between 1996 and 2002 should be on your ‘must-see’ list if you’re thinking of buying a deluxe motorhome.
As we do regularly at Practical Motorhome, online and in the magazine , here we are focusing on a great used mainstream motorhome, giving you expert advice so you are able to buy with confidence. We tell you which is the best of the bunch, what to pay and any problems to look out for.
This time, we are looking at the Iveco-based Mobilvetta Euroyacht. If you are looking for the best luxury used motorhomes for sale, make sure you take a look at some pre-owned Euroyachts.
Mobilvetta Design began making high-end furniture in 1961 – in 1976 it built its first motorhome. Around 20 years later, the company launched the Euroyacht, which – when coupled with the bombproof twin-rear-wheel-drive Iveco chassis-cowl – resulted in one of the best A-class motorhomes ever built.
These Italian lovelies really were in a class of their own, featuring quality cabinetwork with traditional joinery and radius hardwoods. The high standards of equipment levels and practical, new-to-Britain layouts led to them sailing out of the showroom with ease.
The Iveco-based range kicked off with the 6.8m 170 LX and 175 LX models. The 170 has a forward lounge and a midships kitchen ahead of a rear washroom. The 175, meanwhile, has double and single Pullman dinettes and bunk beds – bringing the sleeping-berth count to seven!
Next up was the 7.45m 180 LX, with a similar lounge to the 170. However, the extra length allows a fixed, European-style corner bed ahead of the full-width rear washroom.
The Mobilvetta Design Euroyacht A-class coachbuilt was built in Barberino Val D’Elsa, Tuscany, Italy between 1996 and 2002. The Euroyacht’s overall length is a modest 6.85m to 7.45m (22ft 6in to 24ft 6in).
So, what should you look out for when looking round a used Mobilvetta Euroyacht at a motorhome dealership? Here are Practical Motorhome’s expert tips to help you buy better. Let’s start with the base vehicle. The 2.5- and 2.8-litre mechanical injection TD units are under-stressed and should – given regular maintenance – last 250,000 miles. On early five-speeders, the first gear was so short that many drivers didn’t bother to use it: so do check that it can still be selected easily.
Some back-axle noise is acceptable, but avoid motorhomes with incontinent gearboxes and rear-axles. Almost all examples of the Mobilvetta Euroyacht are left-hand drive vehicles, which might be an advantage if you spend a lot of time on tour abroad in your motorhome.
The skirts of the Euroyacht can discolour over time, and the gel coat on the moulded GRP front end cap goes flat! Bargain hard if this is the case, but be prepared to put a lot of effort in if you decide that you want to restore it to its former glory.
The foam in the habitation seat squabs was soft even when new, so this is likely to need replacing for maximum seat comfort.
So, what do we think of these ‘vans? Here are our likes:
- Eye-candy good looks
- Revolutionary (in their day) layouts
- Twin-rear-wheel drive
- Easy chassis upgrade
And our dislikes:
- Three-piece windscreen has blind spots
- Challenging access to the in-line engine
What’s our pick of the range? Well, unless you have a large family, go for the Movilvetta Euroyacht 180 LX. We think this is the motorhome that offers the most sensuous luxury.
But what to pay? Mint examples are available from close to £18,000. Those that have been lived-in and need an interior overhaul are sometimes available on eBay from £10,000 (on European plates).
What alternatives are there? You could also try the Laika Ecovip 200i and 400i Iveco-based A-class models, or the Mobilvetta Icaro. These have the same layouts and are also based on Iveco vans, but have been built as overcab coachbuilt motorhomes. Consider all three if you see them come up at a good price on the secondhand market.
Need help finding a good motorhome dealer that you can trust? Every year, Practical Motorhome invites readers and website users to rate their motorhome and also their supplying dealer, as part of the Owner Satisfaction Survey . As a result we have fantastic feedback on all the best and worst dealerships out there, as well as reliability ratings for different brands of motorhomes. So take a look at the findings in our 2014 Owner Satisfaction Survey when searching for motorhomes for sale, to help determine who to buy from and what to buy. The full results were published in the April 2014 issue of Practical Motorhome magazine – back issues are available by calling 08456 777 812, while stocks last.
If you are looking for the best luxury used motorhomes, make sure you take a look at some pre-owned Euroyachts

Mobilvetta Euroyacht 170LX

I had a 190LX from new of similar vintage (2.8 manual).
Found the build quality and reliability to be excellent.
I don't recall there being any issues with this make/model - just not very popular in the UK.
My advice would be to take it for a test drive.
Derek Uzzell
There was a 'brief' test report on a Euroyacht 170 in MMM (November 1996) and a report on a Euroyacht 180 in Which Motorcaravan (January 1996). Not sure how relevant these will be to a 1998 model, though.
I believe 1998 Euroyachts would have been constructed on Iveco RWD heavy-duty chassis, offering plenty of payload but high-ish fuel consumption. As Clive says, Euroyachts were rare in the UK and an automatic version must be very rare indeed (I hadn't realised an automatic had been available - at least not in RHD).
Spares relating to the Mobilvetta part of a Euroyacht may well be hard to come by nowadays (eg. bodywork mouldings) and it would be worth trying to establish which windscreen was used, as (if it was unique to the Euroyacht) it could cost a fortune should it need replacement. Otherwise it's mainly a matter of confirming that everything is in good working order, particularly expensive 'habitation' items like the heater and fridge.
Friends of ours had one and the build quality was excellent. Take a serious look at this one as its worth a look. It used to belong to Mel E who everyone knows on here as an avid motorhomer who only bought the best.

Hi Springerspaniel,
Nice motorhomes and an absolute peach if you get one that has been looked after as they are (usually if not always??) on a heavy duty Iveco chassis as mentioned above. I believe Mobilvetta started out as a furniture manufacturer and this shows in the quality of the interior woodwork.
I notice that you are a new user and that this will be your first motorhome. You haven't said where your home is but the Euroyacht may have one potential issue for you if you live within or plan to go into the London Emission Zone (LEZ). As any Euroyacht will almost certainly exceed 3500 kg max weight, then I believe that it would be subject to restrictions within the LEZ to a punitive extent.
Boris Johnson recently suspended forthcoming restriction for vehicles up to 3500 kg but I believe I am correct in thinking that regs are still in force for larger vehicles of the age of your proposed purchase. If anybody knows different, then I will be happy to stand corrected.
Sorry I can't answer your preceding question and I hope that the LEZ will not be of any concern to you.
Brian Kirby
Although my Euroyacht (190LX) was built on the Ducato Maxi chassis (3800kg) it was plated by Mobilvetta at 3500kg. I believe that this is quite a common occurrence with continental manufacturers as driving and other restrictions for vehicles plated over 3500kg are more draconian than our own?
It would have been a fairly simple procedure to re-plate at 3800kg, but never bothered after weighing up the pros and cons.
It certainly made re-selling easier as there was a higher buyer base.
I believe Euroyachts could be built on Ducato FWD or Iveco RWD chassis and I'm guessing from the 'no-clutch-pedal' that this 170LX is on an Iveco base. If that's the case, then it's doubtful that it could be run legally at 3500kg and still offer any sort of useful payload.
I think the Iveco chassis offered a maximum weight of at least 4000kg and, although it wasn't that unusual for Iveco-based motorhomes to be 'down-plated' to 3500kg for Continental markets (I know Laika used to do it), it was really a joke.

Moscow River
Moskva river has the form of a snake and is the main waterway of Moscow, consisting of a cascade of reservoirs. Within the city, Moskva river is 80 km long, 120 m - 200 m wide and up to 14 m deep. The narrowest part of the river is the Kremlin area in the city center, and the most extensive is around the Luzhniki Stadium in the south.
Bridges in Moscow
Undoubtedly, bridges and embankments are among the most scenic spots and main attractions of Moscow. Plus, they are so romantic.
- Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge – Great Stone Bridge – is the main bridge of Moscow . The first stone bridge was constructed here in the 17th century.
- Patriarshy Bridge is one of the youngest pedestrian bridges, built in 2004. The bridge connects the iconic Christ the Saviour Cathedral with funky Bersenevskaya embankment, extremely popular place among locals for its trendy art galleries, cafes and panoramic views. Patriarshy Bridge used to be a shooting location for ex-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's New Year speech to the nation.
- Borodinsky Bridge, erected in honor of the 100th anniversary of the glorious victory in the Battle of Borodino (which every Russian kid knows about), a fierce legendary battle during the Russo-French war of 1812.
- Bagration Bridge one of the pedestrian bridges with most picturesque views of the Moskva River with its numerous upper-level observation platforms. The bridge was erected to celebrate the 850th anniversary of Moscow city in 1997.
- Krymsky Bridge used to be in Top 5 Europe’s longest bridges some 100 years ago. The bridge got its name after the ancient Krymsky ford which Crimean Tartars used to invade Moscow in the 16 th century.
Embankments of Moscow
Moscow river boats 37 embankments, the most popular being Kremlevskaya, Sofiyskaya, Pushkinskaya, Vorobyovskaya and Kolomenskaya.
You can get the most spectacular views of the Kremlin from Kremlevskaya and Sofiyskaya embankments.
- Pushkinkaya embankment is the most romantic in Moscow. It meanders along Gorky Park and Neskuchnyi garden and is rich for all kinds of entertainment as well as cozy nooks, including Olivkovy beach, the famous Zeleny theater as well as a pier for river cruisers.
- Vorobyevskaya embankment is part of Sparrow Hills nature reserve. This place opens a beautiful panorama of the river and city from the observation deck and is considered to be the place for taking serious decisions in life.
- Embankment in Kolomenskoye Museum-Reserve has a special charm due to its peculiar geographical relief. The boat trip around Kolomenskoye would be the most peaceful in your life.
- Taras Shevchenko embankment is popular among photographers for its modern Moscow City skyscrapers. Highly recommended for your night boat trip.
- Embankments of Moscow are the pride of the capital. A distinctive feature of each of the promenades is its architecture and beautiful views. In addition, almost all the embankments of Moscow have a rich history and a lot of notable buildings.
Different epochs
Taking a walk along the Moskva River by boat, you will witness the architecture of Moscow from different eras and styles. Archaeological studies indicate that already in the XI century there stood a fortified settlement on Borovitsky hill, which is now called the Kremlin. Little fortress could not accommodate all the residents of the rapidly growing city, and the Grand Duke ordered the construction of a new Kremlin, larger than the former.
Boat trip around Kolomenskoe Park
Moscow river boat trip starts from the pier Klenovy (Maple) Boulevard and provides reat views of Nicholas Perervinsky monastery.
Nicholas Perervinsky monastery was founded at the time of the Battle of Kulikov (1380). The monastery, got its name from the surrounding area – “Pererva”, which can be translated like “tear off” and because of the location – here it abruptly changed its course, turning to Kolomna, standing on the opposite bank.
Nowadays Kolomenskoye is State Art, Historical, Architectural and Natural Landscape Museum-Reserve, which doors are open to everyone who wants to get in touch with the ancient history of Russia.
Take a break from the big city hustle in the shady parks and gardens of the Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve. Don’t miss a wonderful Church of the Ascension and Tsar Alexey’s Palace in Kolomenskoye!
Monasteries and temples
- Novospassky Monastery
- Founded in the 13th century on the site where now is located the Danilovsky monastery. After a few decades, in 1330, Ivan Kalita moved the monastery onto the Borovitskii hill of the Kremlin. However, in the 15th century, Spassky Monastery again moved, this time to a more spacious place on Krasnoholmskaya waterfront.
- Church of St. Nicholas in Zayaitskom
- Erected in the middle of the XVIII century in baroque style. The building survived after the 1812 fire, but the utensils were destoyed. Parishioners collected donations and restored the temple on their own. In Soviet times, it was closed and re-opened only in 1992.
- Cathedral of Christ the Savior
- The church was originally erected in honor of the victory over Napoleon and was being under construction for long 44 years. Notoriously demolished in 1937 to be a giant swimming pool under open sky. The current building was constructed in 1990s. It is the tallest and one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world.
- The temple was built in 1679-82, during the reign of Tsar Fedor Alekseevich, in late Muscovite Baroque style and can be characterized as bonfire temple. Each gable is a symbol of a heavenly fire.
- Novodevichy Convent
- The most famous concent and monastery in Moscow, presumably founded in 1524. Novodevichy’s status has always been high among other monasteries, it was in this monastery where the women of the royal blood, the wives of Tsars and local rulers of Moscow were kept in prison as nuns.
- St. Andrew’s church (male acts as Compound Patriarch of Moscow)
- St. Andrew’s church stands right on the slopes of the Sparrow Hills, on the way down to the Moskva River, on the territory of the Nature Reserve “Sparrow Hills”. The monastery is small in size but is very cozy. It’s situated in a quiet courtyard surrounded by temples, fruit trees and flowers.

2. General information about Moscow metro
Metro working hours, navigation, wi-fi.
The Moscow Metro is open from about 5:30 am until 1:00 am. The precise opening time varies at different stations according to the arrival of the first train, but all stations simultaneously close their entrances and transitions to other lines at 01:00 am for maintenance. The minimum interval between trains is 90 seconds during the morning and evening rush hours. Each line is identified according to an alphanumeric index (usually consisting of a number), a name and a color. Voice announcements in Russian refer to the lines by name and by numbers in English. A male voice announces the next station when traveling towards the center of the city or the clockwise direction on the circle line, and a female voice – when going away from the center or the counter-clockwise direction at the circle. The lines are also assigned specific colors for maps and signs.
Free Wi-Fi is called MT_FREE and available on all 14 lines (inside the trains).
Using Metro services is frequently the fastest and the most efficient way to get from one part of the city to another. But during daytime Moscow Metro stations are usually overcrowded so if you want to just enjoy the beauty of the underground, it’s better to visit it late in the evening.
MCC and MCD
Since 2016 The Moscow Metro is connected to two new types of rail transport. The first one is MCC – Moscow Central Circle. It has 31 stations around the city with changes to metro stations (most of them require to walk a few minutes via the street). The second one is MCD, Moscow Central Diameters, a system of city train services on existing commuter rail lines in Moscow and Moscow Oblast. MCD has several lines, they’re being marked as D1, D2 etc. Changing to both MCC and MCD from the Metro is free when your journey is within the city. Both MCC and MCD lines exist on all of the Moscow Metro maps.
Interesting facts about Moscow metro
213 people were born in the metro during the World War II, when it was used as a bomb shelter.
There are 76 bronze sculptures of workers, peasants, soldiers, sailors, etc. at Ploshchad Revolyutsii station. There is legend connected with this station. To pass any examination successfully, a student should touch the bronze dog’s nose («the Frontier Guard with a Dog» sculpture). You can easily understand high popularity of this legend by looking at the polished nose of the dog.
It is said that some of the magnificent mosaics at several central stations, for example the «World Peace» mosaic at Novoslobodskaya, were made with the pieces of enamel and smalt, taken from the famous Christ the Savior Cathedral, before it’s destruction.
As any other dungeon the Moscow metro, has its own ghosts. The most famous one is the old lineman. He is not dangerous and usually hides into the wall, when people appear. The ghostly metro train is much more dangerous. It appears after midnight at the Circle Line and consists of old-time carriages. It sometimes stops at the stations and opens its doors, and then goes back into the darkness. It is said that the souls of Stalin’s prisoners, perished during the building of the metro are locked in the train forever.
