Rise and Shine

For crew members, the day starts out several hours before passengers will be served their breakfast. You will shower and dress, and then eat the breakfast that the chef has prepared for the crew in the crew mess. After eating, deckhands leave to prepare the decks and all of the items on it for the passengers. The chef and his or her assistants finish preparing the passengers’ breakfast, and the stewards and stewardesses prepare the dining room for the passengers. After breakfast, the captain, mates, and engineers prepare the yacht for the day’s cruise or perform necessary or routine maintenance or repairs.

Once passengers arrive in the dining room, the stewards/stewardesses serve breakfast and make sure the passengers have everything they need during the meal. They may also discuss the day’s ports of call, if there are any, and answer any of the passengers’ questions. After breakfast, the stewards and stewardesses clear the dining room and clean it in preparation of lunch.

The Mid-Morning

During the mid-morning hours, the stewards and stewardesses make up the passengers’ beds and clean their rooms. The deckhands clean all exterior surfaces, and the captain, mates, and engineers ensure that the ship is functioning effectively and according to all safety and environmental regulations. If at sea, passengers may sit by the pool, or spend time on the deck. Stewards and stewardesses will also check to see if passengers need any drinks or snacks, while the chef spends this time preparing lunch for the crew and passengers.

Lunch is prepared, served, and cleared much the same way that breakfast was, with the chef preparing the food and the stewards/stewardesses serving it and making sure the passengers have everything they need. After the meal, the stewards also clear the tables and clean the dining room in preparation for dinner. The crew members will eat lunch just before the passengers, or afterwards, in the mess.

Mid-Afternoon

If at port, the passengers may leave the ship to explore the port. If at sea, the afternoon will pass in the same way the morning did, with the passengers primarily enjoying the sun and sea on the deck. Stewards and stewardesses will ensure that all passengers have what they need, including any snacks and beverages. The deckhands will continue to clean the decks and make sure that everything is kept organized and in working order. The chef begins preparing dinner, and by the end of the afternoon, stewards and stewardesses go to the dining room to get it ready for the passengers.

Dinner and Evening

As with the other two meals, the chef and other galley workers have prepared the food, and the stewards will serve it and clean the dining room after the last passenger has left. Crew members then eat dinner. Stewards may also serve the passengers beverages throughout the evening. It is usually late when stewards or stewardesses can officially clock out and are off duty. Deckhands’ day may end at sunset, but one or two of them may also take turns standing watch or assisting the engineer or mates. It can be midnight or later before all crew members are able to sleep.

This is a general overview of a typical day onboard a yacht. Of course, there is always a lot more to the job than can be discussed in a short article. This should allow you to see, however, that the days are long, and for most crew members, you will be on your feet for most of your shift. You will also be expected to help other crew members as needed.

As green crew, one way to land a permanent role as a yacht stew or deckhand is by building up your new yachting CV with day work. Learning how to get day work and taking advantage of those opportunities can be a stepping stone to starting your yachting career.

Day work gives you an introduction to what it’s like to work onboard, where you start to build your first yacht stew or deckhand skills, it also gives you income during the job hunting phase, allows you to network and creates a positive reputation for you in the industry.

This article answers these questions: What is day work on yachts? Why do yachts need day workers? How to get day work for yacht crew? What do you get paid as a day worker? What to wear to day work onboard? Hot tips for green crew when day working.

What is daywork : It’s a non-contractual temporary work on a yacht. It’s when a yacht hires you temporarily, this can range from one day to a week to a month depending on the extra work needed to be done onboard. You could be hired to work in any area of the boat from the interior, exterior or engineering department.  Daywork is not only just for green crew it can also be for temp experienced crew. You will be doing any job needed to be done, from the routine monthly tasks the crew don’t get time to do or cleaning crew areas, detailing the cabins and interior preparing it for the next charter, helping with provisions or washdowns on the exterior of the vessel.

Why yachts need day workers : During busy periods boats need more help than usual to ‘turn the boat around’ in between charters. When yachts drop off one charter or boss trip within 24-48 hrs you need to prepare the boat up to superyacht standards for the next guests arrival. These are usually really long days for the crew and throw in having to also get new provisions onboard, a full laundry, detailing every cabin and resetting the interior there’s often not enough hours in the day to get it done just with the regular crew so this is when day workers are needed. You could also be called for daywork when the boat is on charter to assist with large events or to do the routine jobs the crew onboard don’t have time to do on charter.

How you get daywork : 1. Through Facebook pages such as Antibes yacht crew or Fort Lauderdale Yacht Crew Daywork, or yacht crew pages/WhatsApp groups

2. Crew houses will often be contacted by boats (especially Grapevine in Antibes, France as it is very reputable) this is why I highly recommend staying in crew houses as this is the added bonus which can ultimately lead to a job.

3. Walking the docks handing out your cv, this a first-hand way of offering your services to vessels nearby, a business card is also very handy to give out too. This way they can contact you directly. If you want to learn more about dock walking check out this article here.

What you will get paid: $150 USD or  €100- €130 cash per day (depending on experience). Most likely to include lunch, however, accommodation is not usually provided due to limited spaces onboard.

Tips for daywork: 1. If dock walking pack a spare pair of clothes it’s not unusual for the yacht to ask you to jump on board then and there to help out.  2. Be open to working in any department necessary to add to your yachting CV as it’s all valuable experience. It may not be a deck position you are wanting but if you can help out with a wash down it’s an experience you can say you’ve done.  3. Don’t be late. There are so many people eager to take this opportunity so act keen and arrive 10 mins early.  4. Do not use your mobile phone while day working (acceptable on breaks only), and do not take photos of you on the boat. 5. Always finish your task promptly, and clean up after you’re done. Ask the crew if they need a hand with anything if you are waiting for your next task. If you are not sure how to do something don’t just wing it, ask the person in charge and just explain you haven’t done this task before. 6. Network, if you develop a great relationship with the crew on that boat they will be likely to recommend you to other boats if they do not have a permanent position.

Superyacht Day Work

A few tricks of the trade.

Day work is non-contractual temporary work on a yacht. Read through the advice and tips below to become an expert dayworker and give yourself the best possible chance of finding a job.

Tips for day work

Change of clothes:.

Dock walking often leads to on the spot daywork. It is, therefore, a good idea to carry around a backpack with a change of clothes that you do not mind getting ruined (a white t-shirt and less smart shorts, or an old boat t-shirt). Some boats will give you day working clothes to use, but do not count on it.

Be flexible:

Whilst you are 'green' and seeking experience you should be willing to daywork in any department. An aspiring deckhand should not be shy to clean an engine room or galley. It is all valuable experience and will help you network and get your foot in the door.

Be on time:

Always ensure you arrive 10-15 minutes before daywork commences. Stand on the dock and be ready to begin work. Do not ring the bell and hassle the crew, it is likely they are having coffee/eating breakfast and will see you on the cameras. NEVER BE LATE. It is a cardinal sin in yachting and you will likely be sent home.

It is your opportunity to impress - work hard, only take breaks or stop when you are told - don’t think its time to go home just because it is 1700. Always offer to stay late if required. It will not go unnoticed. Even if there is no potential job on this boat, the crew will recommend hard-workers to other friends and crew.

Be proactive:

Finish your tasks and clean up after yourself, clean your tools/products and return them to their home. If the crewmember giving you direction is busy and you do not have another task, find something to do or temporarily offer your assistance to someone else.

Do not use/look at your phone except during designated breaks. If you are expecting a call for an interview or about a job, explain this to the person in charge at the start of the day and they will understand and will allow you take a call if necessary.

Be eager to learn:

Try and learn as much as possible, ask questions and watch and learn. Do not be a know it all and pretend to know things you do not. The experienced crew are able to judge your experience and are more likely to help those willing to learn.

Pay for daywork:

Pay for daywork varies depending on the country you are in, your experience and the yacht you are working for. It usually ranges from 12-15 Dollars/Euros and hour. You may be paid at the end of each day or at the end of the week, if you need the money that day, speak to the person in charge, they will usually help you out.

Day working provides a fantastic networking opportunity, go for drinks/dinners with the crew. If you have developed a good relationship even join them on their day off. If they like you and approve of the way you work they are likely to recommend you to friends and crew on other boats.

The Basics of Day Work on a Yacht and What You Can Expect

  • June 19, 2023

Working on a yacht is a unique and exciting career path open to anyone passionate about the sea and hospitality. Yachts are luxurious vessels typically used for leisure and travel, ranging in size from small sailing yachts to massive superyachts that accommodate dozens of guests. Yachts require a crew, and many positions are available for those looking to work on board.

Day work is a common arrangement in the yacht industry where yacht workers are hired temporarily to help with tasks that the onboard crew cannot handle because of other obligations. Day work can range from a day, a week, or even a month, depending on the contract, with jobs ranging from gathering food, doing laundry, or event assistance, which frequently happen on yachts. However, being a yacht dayworker goes beyond these details, so we will discuss them in this article.

The Basics of a Day Work Arrangement

Yacht workers in the day work arrangement are called dayworkers. Day workers are typically hired through crew houses or direct applications by going to docked yachts with their CVs on hand. The work can be seasonal, and it is essential to have a flexible schedule. Day workers are expected to have a positive attitude and a willingness to work in any department.

Additionally, dayworkers are expected to have relevant experience in the tasks they are hired for. For example, if a day worker is hired to do laundry, they should have experience in laundry operations and know how to handle different fabrics and detergents. If a day worker is hired to help with food preparation, they should have culinary skills and knowledge of food safety regulations.

The Challenges of Day Work

Being a day worker can be challenging in many ways. For starters, it can be tough to find consistent work, especially during the off-season. Day workers may have to spend a lot of time searching for jobs, which can be frustrating and financially stressful. With this in mind, lack of job security is also a problem because dayworkers are hired temporarily, and their contracts can be terminated anytime. This means they cannot rely on a stable income and may have to look for new jobs constantly.

While it doesn’t always happen, day workers may also face discrimination from permanent crew members. Some permanent crew members may view day workers as inferior and treat them poorly. This can create a hostile work environment and make it challenging for day workers to do their jobs effectively.

How Much Will You Get Paid?

Day workers can expect to make around USD 150 or €100- €130 cash daily, depending on experience. Accommodations are not usually included because yachts have limited space onboard. Day workers are expected to find their own accommodation, which can be challenging in popular yachting destinations.

Tips When Working as a Dayworker

To help you be an effective yacht dayworker, here are some tips:

  • Pack spare clothes: Day work can be messy, and having spare clothes on hand is essential. You never know when you might get covered in food or other substances, or you may work on the yacht for several days without going home.
  • Never be late: Punctuality is crucial in the yachting industry. If you are late, you could miss out on an opportunity or, worse, lose your job.
  • Be open to working in any department: Dayworkers are expected to be flexible and willing to work in any department. You may be asked to help with laundry, cooking, or deck work.
  • Always be ready to lend a hand: Dayworkers should always be prepared to help with any task. This could mean assisting with a guest’s luggage or helping to set up for an event.
  • Build your network – Networking is essential in the yachting industry. Dayworkers should take every opportunity to meet new people and build relationships with industry professionals.

Being a yacht dayworker is a laborious but fulfilling job that requires dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn. Anyone who enters the trade can have a long and successful career if they approach it with the right attitude and mindset, especially since they will deal with people from all walks of life. With this, you will gain valuable experience and make connections that can lead to future opportunities in the yachting industry.

Want to earn $100 in a single day with a side hustle? A site called NetCredit studied top-paying side hustles and came up with nearly 20 that would pay $100 or more and could be done quickly enough to deliver the next day. Notably, the vast number of these hustles fall into three broad job categories — marketing, design and writing. And, while some of these high-paying hustles require specialized skills, many of the $100 hustles are readily accessible to almost anyone who has some life experience and a good command of English.

$100 hustles

NetCredit put this list together by studying more than 81,000 job advertisements on Fiverr, a broad-based work platform. It then created average wages for one-day turnaround job listings offered by top-rated freelancers. Notably, Fiverr provides a good case study for this type of research because the platform draws millions of customers from around the world and allows the roughly 830,000 freelancers who use the platform to set their own rates and terms, including project deadlines.

SideHusl.com ‘s editors culled the NetCredit list to focus on the three categories of $100 hustles that dominated the list. We’ve also included information about other online platforms where you can nab these jobs.

Four of the top slots on NetCredit’s list went to marketers.

The most lucrative of all U.S. hustles in the study, in fact, was for freelancers offering marketing strategy services.

What is marketing strategy? It’s taking at look at the product or service and evaluating the best ways to promote it, given the nature of the product or service, the target demographic, budget and other factors.

A marketing strategist would dive into the details of your business or product and come up with a plan that shows what percentage of your marketing budget should be spent on, say, social media marketing vs. SEO, email, or traditional advertising. More detailed marketing plans would include whether to use billboards vs. Google ads; TikTok vs. Facebook, etc..

Average pay for a one-day turnaround project in marketing strategy: $178.

People creating spokesperson videos got paid an average of $131.

Other $100 hustles include mobile app marketing. This can involve getting your app in more app-store search results by analyzing your competitors, ranking keywords and making sure that your app description shines. It can also involve using other types of media, including Google ads, to promote your app. Average pay for this specialty: $110.

Finally, social media marketers earn an average of $103 for promoting a brand or product on sites like Facebook, Twitter, TikTok and Snap.

Where to snag marketing work

If you have these skills, and you want some help marketing your marketing service, you can create a profile on Fiverr. This site invites freelancers to say who they are; their experience; and then create a service “package” that spells out specifically what you’ll do, when you’ll deliver it and how much it costs. You don’t need experience. But, if you have vast experience, you can ask to join Fiverr’s pro network, which allows you to work on higher-paying corporate jobs.

However, if you don’t want to create your own pitch on Fiverr, there are several other marketing agencies that actively enlist freelancers to work with their clients. These include MarketerHire , Mayple and GrowTal. All three of these sites let freelancers set their own rates and specialties. Freelancers on all three sites often earn $50 – $100+ per hour. Notably, college degrees are not required. But all three want details about how you’ve moved the needle on past marketing projects.

An astounding eight of the top 20 $100 hustles in the U.S. involved some type of design — website, UX (user experience), industrial, brand/style, packaging and label designs, as well as app design, presentation and dashboard designs.

It’s worth noting that many of these design jobs are the visual equivalent of the marketing work discussed above. By and large, what designers are doing is improving a product or brand’s image with intuitive layouts, colorful and pertinent graphics, and compelling content.

In addition to Fiverr, several online platforms offer design work. These include Creatively , WorkingNotWorking , FreeUp , and Awesomic . If you’re specifically looking for user experience or website design work, BrainTrust and TopTal are also worth considering.

Only two writing jobs appear in the top 20 $100 hustles. Writing LinkedIn profiles can net you $110, while songwriting can generate $158. However, a number fall just below this threshold.

Writing press releases can net $97; Ghostwriting averages $92 and editing and critique writing pays an average of $86.

The best place to find niche writing jobs, such as writing LinkedIn or dating profiles, is Fiverr. However, there are better sites to ply blog writing, editing and songwriting.

For ghostwriting and blog post writing, the best sites include ServiceScape , Contently and Skyword .

ServiceScape allows writers to set their own rates, which are usually based on a set word-count per page. With Contently and Skyword, corporate clients set the rates and the sites enlist freelancers to provide the service, based on their expertise and interest.

If you happen to be a songwriter, also check out Songfinch. This site pays you to write custom songs for people celebrating special events, like weddings and anniversaries.

room full of clouds surreal dream 3d rendering moon

Not getting proper sleep can impair your ability to work. Given that 33% of Americans rate their sleep as "fair" or "poor," it's no wonder businesses are investing more in well-being efforts, such as sleep aids, to help their workforce. But did you know that your dreams can also impact how well you perform at work?

Recent research published in Academy of Managemen t studied the impact of dreaming on work performance and found a surprising connection between the two. It's well known that dreaming plays an important part in helping us to become better problem solvers, consolidate memories, and help us to better regulate our emotions. But the study posits that dreams can also help us become more resilient, which improves work performance. How do dreams accomplish that? By eliciting feelings of awe.

The ability for dreams to inspire awe won't be surprising to the vivid dreamers of the world (and fun fact — women have better dream recall than men). According to the report, awe arises when two conditions are met: vastness, and a need to make sense of what we've just experienced.

Vastness occurs when something doesn't fit within our day-to-day frame of reference — think visiting the Grand Canyon or seeing the Northern Lights. When something that big happens, we need to adjust how we understand the world around us to account for the magnitude of what we've just experienced. Upon waking we try to ascribe meaning to the dream we've just experienced, and that action and sense of awe it creates can alter our subsequent behavior throughout the day.

The Connection Between Awe And Resilience

When unpacking the impact of emotions on work, awe is not usually an emotion that is part of the conversation. Anxiety, depression, happiness, and motivation are much more frequently examined. But perhaps generating feelings of awe should be more discussed as part of a company's well-being strategy, given its connection to building resilience.

Millions Of Google, WhatsApp, Facebook 2FA Security Codes Leak Online

Samsung just gave millions of galaxy users a reason to buy an iphone, facebook and instagram down here s why.

Awe leads people to evaluate their worries and concerns as less important than they typically seem. In turn, if someone subsequently faces a stressful situation at work, they are more likely to accept the experience and seek to frame what's happened in a more positive light.

This also boosts resiliency; in fact, the study found that over 40% of the variance in resiliency is due to fluctuations in daily appraisals of work stressors. So, that positive start to the day can make a big difference to someone's resiliency over time.

The study also shows that this uptick in day-to-day resiliency relates to career progression. Why? Because the daily progress toward achieving work goals — which is easier when we hold a resilient mindset — compounds over time.

It's Not Just About Sleep

Instead of focusing only on sleep quality, it's time we pay more attention to what happens while people are sleeping, given the ability of dreams to impact employees' thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
