Wow, what a lovely venue for a wedding - the surrounds were beautiful and it was so lovely to look out over the water. The food was fabulous - a most enjoyable evening had by all.

We have dinned here a few times with friends and have not been disappointed, its quite so you can hear the conversation and unbelievably both times we came there were only a hand full of other guests eating. This time I had the Wagyu beef cheek and it was sooooo tender, everyone else commented on how fantastic theirs were too. The service was excellent and the cost was very reasonable. A bonus is that car parking is right at the yacht club and you dont have to pay, cant be easier better place to go in Melbourne with such a nice atmosphere. NB there is a ATM also at the front door.

This is a great place to enjoy a quiet lunch or dinner which friends. The tables are widely spaced so there is no noise problem and the restaurant looks out over the boatyard with Port Phillip Bay beyond. The staff are friendly and efficient. The menu emphasises seafood and the dishes we selected with good to very good. The wine list was also very good. Our only negative was the parking arrangements which involve metre parking in an adjacent council carpark so be prepared.

Invited guest of a member, shared a delicious plate and many drinks in the bar area, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The view is absolutely spectacular.

Harbour View Restaurant

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Visited with dear friends who are members of the yacht club. There was a very fine varied menu with a number of interesting seafood dishes. We started with a light option of prawns followed by good old fish and chips and grilled tandoori salmon, all... delicious and very well cooked to perfection. Very nice wines to go with the meal, but we skipped dessert as we had had our fill. Exceedingly pleasant friendly staff and a meal that was very reasonable at NZ$ 221 for all our of us. More

sandringham yacht club members bar menu

Excellent menu, terrific location/views, great staff. The restaurant also features an outside courtyard, with a 1st class view of the golden sunset over the bay.

The Harbour View is a really good restaurant situated inside the Sandringham Yacht Club. The food is excellent and the view is - well, who needs to go to Italy. Beautiful yachts and power boats all around. Don't go on a Wednesday because this a... racing day and car parking is outside the club's grounds. Bayside council charges killer rates for parking. More

A friend organised a catch up and booked us into their annual Japanese Feast event. To me, good Japanese cuisine involves subtle balance of flavours to highlight the key ingredients. What we got was 6 courses of heavy handed butchering of quality ingredients, sometimes with... little regards to the traditions of Japanese cuisine (Salmon suveed in olive oil is not Japanese). None of the dishes exhibited good balanced flavours, and many of the dishes were overwhelmed by the dressing to the point that the star ingredient was completely lost in the dish. Overall a very disappointing experience. The restaurant survives most likely because it is part of the yacht club and located in Sandringham (not one of Melbourne's many "food hubs"). More

Our experience Seafood Tiered plate for two Calamari chewy,Oysters could do with some tasty topping, Lobster very small. Sushi Roll delicious . A very expensive lunch for the quality. Service not fantastic, staff pleasant. Wines a good selection . Iced Coffee's nice but lacked the... little chockie treat, these little extra's make it a special lunch out. A three course option would have been better value. Our first visit here was a lot better a few years ago. More

We recently spent a delightful evening with overseas guests at the Harbour View Restaurant, which is located in the Sandringham Yacht Club premises. The food was great and nicely presented. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The bonus is the magnificent views across the... bay at sunset More

My first time at SYC and very impressed. The menu contained a good range of diverse choices, which were cooked and served perfectly. The view is wonderful, especially if you have a table outside on a good day - blue water views to the horizon,... or watch the yachts whilst sipping a cold one. The service was stand out - accommodating, flexible, relaxed. This is definitely a great place for a long lazy lunch or dinner in the warmer months. More

We returned to Harbour View with the same friend we'd been with last time. We found the food a little less appealing, but this might have been due to the kitchen having to cope with a function in the next room. The lunch special menu... offers two courses for $40, or three for $50, including a glass of wine or beer. Excellent value. There are two choices of each course. All three of us selected croquettes with cheese and potato served with lemon aoili for the starter. Delicious and nicely garnished. For mains, I had seafood fettuccine while the others ate a Portuguese-style chicken breast, which came with rice and salad. I found the pasta a bit gluggy and the others deemed the chicken overcooked and dry. All mains were generous in size so we shared a serve of tiramisu, which had a lovely texture - though the commercial chocolate sauce did not enhance the dessert. The house wine was really good, and the bread rolls with olive oil and balsamic vinegar a nice start to the meal. We will certainly go back. It's a lovely setting and great value. More

This is the perfect place to meet friends and relax over a cocktail was very nice dinner and perfect like always

As the name suggests panoramic view awaits the visitors. Spacious and bright. Seating also on a large deck. A good choice on the menu and dishes executed well. Fish and chips, nori roll, soft shell crab. All delicious. Service good. Would reccommend.

A very nice family gathering, with sweeping views of the bay. A bit too cold to sit outside, but can imagine it being very popular in summer time. The food was superb, the staff were very attentive. Even with a bottle of wine and a... cheese platter afterwards, the price of around $50 pp was quite reasonable, considering the location and the high quality. More

Food here can be really good depending on how busy the palce is,ie functions race days etc.. Steak is always a good choice with the locals, vegetarians need to request specials as they can produce rippers not on the menu.Overall staff are friendly and you cant... beat the view. More

A friend recommended the restaurant at Sandringham Yacht Club so we decided to take her out for lunch there. We were seated at a table near a window and we, as new diners, really enjoyed looking at the boats on the water etc. We chose... from the express lunch menu, which offers two courses for $40 or three for $50, with a glass of house wine. There were two different dishes for each course - not a wide selection, but that did not worry us. We had the two course deal. On the table were a roll each and balsamic vinegar with olive oil. We nibbled these while we drank a glass of sparkling wine. ($8) The women ordered Trio of Oysters and Barramundi. The male selected Leek Croquettes and Scotch Fillet. We all really enjoyed our meals. The oysters were a big hit, as were the croquettes. Mains were generous in size, with the streak accompanied by mashed potato and beans, and the fish, beans and chat potatoes. We drank white wine with our meal. Service was attentive and friendly. Next time we want to go to lunch with our friend, we'll go back to Harbour View. More

We had a fabulous lunch at the Harbour View Restaurant today. The staff were friendly and welcoming on arrival and had reserved a lovely table by the window as I had mentioned it was a special occasion. We had paella which was delicious, followed by... the dessert plate which was out of this world. I can't wait to return and hopefully get a day when we can sit out on the deck and see even more of the beautiful view over Melbourne. More

We had a really nice meal - one of us had fish and the other steak -- both very nicely prepared. They were very accommodating of dietary requests and good wine by the glass. The views are magnificent and service is friendly -- it's not... cheap but well worth it for the lovely location and good quality food and experience. Definitely suggest booking as it was very busy the night we were there. More

Sandringham Yacht Club

Members and guests of melbourne's sandringham yacht club can now enjoy one of the finest yacht club facilities in australia.

Sandringham Yacht Club opened its stunning new clubhouse to rapturous applause in July. The new clubhouse stands on the site of the old carpark and is closer to the marina, and to the yacht-racing action on Port Phillip Bay.

Built at a cost of $12.75 million, the new facility replaces the old clubhouse which has stood since 1956. Funding for the project was raised with a combination of a bank loan and from the members who were offered an extension on their marina berth leases, prepayment of locker and hardstand fees, and interest-bearing debentures.

The old clubhouse, built to host the Melbourne Olympic Games, offered 1400m² of usable area whereas the new clubhouse offers 2600m² and will have extra carparking on the site of the old clubhouse.

AUSTRALIA'S FINEST At the opening, the new facility was described by Commodore Philip Burn as "the best boating facility in Australia" and at the risk of sounding biased (as I am a member of Sandringham) I would have to agree.

The new Sandringham facility is not just a clubhouse for members, but a training facility, a function centre and a restaurant open to the public.

While the new building houses a members' bar and members' lounge, it also has an enormous function room, meeting rooms, an auditorium and a restaurant.

The club's function room will be available for bookings from the public and offers food and beverage facilities, state-of-the-art audio-visual technology, a moveable dance floor and stage setup, and stunning views to the south and west.

On its northern side, the club has a huge verandah overlooking the marina and safe harbour. This is open to members with a section adjoining the restaurant for the public.

The auditorium is downstairs and can seat up to 80 people. It is equipped with audio-visual equipment, wireless internet and is big enough to accommodate a fully-rigged sailing skiff.

In the members' lounge is a library stocked with interesting maritime books, comfortable lounge chairs, complementary tea and coffee, and two work stations with internet-enabled computers for members' use. Throughout the clubhouse are trophies, photos and club memorabilia.

FOCUS ON TRAINING According to Commodore Burn, the new facility will have a big focus on training, not only of school kids, but young people looking to embark in a career in the marine industry.

"Certainly, we have school student programs here at Sandringham," said Burn. "In fact, we run about 2000 kids from 25 different schools through here each year. We teach them about boat handling and sailing, but more importantly, we teach them about safety and responsibility on the water," he added.

"However, one of our other big focuses is training young people for a future in the marine industry," said Burn.

Sandringham Yacht Club received $437,500 from the Victorian Government on a dollar-for-dollar basis to build a fully-equipped auditorium which augments its already impressive training facilities.

"We are working with William Angliss TAFE and Holmsglen TAFE to train young people in the marine component of a Resort Management qualification," said Burn. "We also train people who just want to learn to sail as we have introductory and intermediate courses for both kids and adults."

Interestingly, Sandringham Yacht Club is only the second sporting club in the country to achieve Registered Training Organisation (RTO) status, the first being the Western Bulldogs AFL Club.

Burn said that like other yacht clubs, Sandringham must focus on the younger members for the Club to survive: "We have around 2000 members at the moment," he said. "But, although our membership is growing, it's a fact that 55 per cent of our membership is over 50 years of age, so we need to have the younger folk come up through the ranks to lower the average age."

Sandringham's CEO, Richard Hewett, says the club employs 29 full-time staff plus up to 40 casuals in the main facility. Ten staff are employed in the sailing academy, there are 45 staff in on-site businesses and around 20 contractors.

Sandringham Yacht Club - Service

Situated on the foreshore of port phillip bay, the sandringham yacht club is melbourne’s premier sailing club, presenting world-class sporting and event facilities right on the water’s edge..

Alongside the 356-berth floating marina and boatyard, the modern Clubhouse, encompasses a wide range of facilities including an a-la-carte restaurant, members lounge and members bar, café, meeting rooms, an auditorium, offices, and communications room. It is a sought after venue for weddings and events.

Sitting on the coast, the Club’s HVAC and mechanical systems and equipment are prone to corrosion and regular maintenance is fundamental to ensuring that systems remain functional and last. A.G. Coombs has been delivering HVAC and mechanical maintenance services to SYC for almost 20 years.

The A.G. Coombs team maintains everything from the Clubhouse’s HVAC systems, central energy plant, mechanical switchboards, and specialist kitchen exhausts through to the more straightforward split system air conditioners in the nearby Concessions Building; home to several marine-related retailers.

SYC has implemented wide-ranging environmental initiatives in recent years, including energy-efficient mechanical and air conditioning equipment, low energy lighting, and efficient electrical switching systems as part of the new Clubhouse project, and significant water management and reuse systems and waste management and recycling systems.

Primary air conditioning for the Clubhouse is provided by energy-efficient Mitsubishi VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system. This system modulates the flow of refrigerant depending upon the heating or cooling requirements of the building. This technology has been optimised by the A.G. Coombs team with the assistance of Mitsubishi experts.
