Inauguration of the new YCM building

At 43°44’15’’ N and 7°25’40’’ E, this hi-tech building which looks like a liner docked on Quai Louis II is home to two of the Principality’s historic clubs: the Société Nautique (rowing club) and the Yacht Club, a meeting point for owners and focus of international yachting activities. Alongside Lord Foster and Monegasque architect Alexandre Giraldi, Jacques Grange and Nelson Wilmotte have put their talents to the service of the new building’s interior and exterior layout and design.

“ Allow me to express a very sincere wish that the Yacht Club de Monaco fulfil its mission as a link between people who love the sea, that it serves the interests ”

— Prince Rainier III

To be a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco is above all a commitment. It is a desire to preserve a certain ethic, both on land and on the water, and to foster a respect for naval etiquette and preservation of the environment. The Yacht Club de Monaco’s philosophy is based on the need to perpetuate but also to pass on a heritage, inherited from our ancestors, to ensure that the Yacht Club remains a lively and progressive place.

A guide to the best restaurants in Monaco

Published 23 September 2021

There are no fewer than 86 of France’s 628 Michelin-starred restaurants in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region where Monaco is located, five of them holding a coveted three Michelin stars. Few places in the world rival the Principality for its variety of world-renowned restaurants, all located within a stone’s throw from one another. It’s an exceptional and rare scenario that pushes the best of the best to continually jostle for pole position, resulting in the gastronomic itinerary of a lifetime.

Le Louis XV - Alain Ducasse à l'Hôtel de Paris

Le Louis XV - Get ready for the dining experience of a lifetime

Alain Ducasse’s Monaco menu at Le Louis XV is a taste sensation. Nestled in l'Hôtel de Paris Monte Carlo, the three-starred restaurant is considered the jewel in the Principality’s fine-dining crown, if not the best French cuisine in the world, made evident when it became the first hotel restaurant to receive a coveted three Michelin stars.

Le Louis XV - The decor hints at Versailles - the dress code is just as smart

The atmosphere

Le Louis XV commands eye-watering Monaco prices and yet reservations are highly recommended. A smart dress code is required, with jackets to be worn even when dining on the terrace in summer. The ornate decor is a celebration of gilded mirrors and marble pillars in an ode to the Palace of Versailles, and a nod to 'le bien aime'.

Le Louis XV - Reserve your table in advance

The cuisine

Sit back and prepare for the contemporary Mediterranean menu to take you on an epic journey of the French Riviera. Bold flavourful sauces, intense broths and fresh condiments accompany fish from local fishers, herbs and vegetables from the hinterland. Head Chef Dominique Lory’s renowned gastronomy is accompanied by exceptional wine pairings from Head Sommelier Noel Bajor selected from one of the finest cellars in the world.

Le Louis XV - The menu will take you on a culinary journey of the French Riviera

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Relaxed seating, delicious menu - no wonder the locals love it here

L'Hôtel Hermitage’s classic Belle Epoque architecture is almost as well loved as the Principality itself. Housed within this neoclassical palace rooted in the heart of Monaco resides another three-starred retaurant with the doyen of cookery, Chef Yannick Alleno, at the helm.

Chef Yannick Alleno himself

The restuarant provides a lively and vibrant dining experience seven days a week. Frequented by a loyal following of Monegasque residents, it shuns the formalities adopted by many of its gastronomic neighbours in favour of a relaxed and inviting ambience. Tables are grouped together in small lounge areas, while the sun terrace affords panoramic views across Port Hercules.

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Book your table on the sun terrace for views such as these

Simplicity is the name of the game, proposing reinventions of traditional fare. Dishes include king crab topped with cream and nettle vinegar, Norwegian lobster with spring herbs and sea bream sashimi. For those short on time, the business lunch menu is an unrivalled express option.

Yannick Alleno à l'Hôtel Hermitage - Simple reinventions of classic dishes are their trademark

Le Blue Bay

Le Blue Bay - Brunch at Le Blue Bay? It's the place to go

Martinique-born Chef Marcel Ravin fuses audacious Caribbean flavours with local Mediterranean ingredients to great applaud at Le Blue Bay. The Michelin-starred restaurant has fast become recognised as a Sunday brunch mainstay on the Monaco food scene, located in Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort.

Le Blue Bay - Chef Marcel Ravin uses home-grown Mediterranean ingredients

The dining room experience is as sophisticated as the food on the plate, while on the terrace, patrons are treated to sprawling vistas of the Mediterranean Sea. For something a little more special, reserve a seat at Ravin’s table, which faces the open kitchen and provides an intimate setting for a one-to-one with Chef and his team.

Le Blue Bay - The terrace is a great favourite in good weather

Le Blue Bay’s signature dishes slip off the fork faster than they roll off the tongue, from green papaya spaghetti with carbonara, truffle and Iberico ham, and the unmissable organic hhicken with truffle and passion fruit. Each dish is dressed on a made-to-measure plate thrown by a potter from Ravin’s native island that evokes the memory of the Caribbean seabed.

Le Blue Bay - Plated to look as though it is served on a seabed

Yoshi is the only Japanese restaurant on the Côte d'Azur to have been awarded a Michelin star. Located in the Hôtel Metropole, which itself is contained in the glamorous Carré d'Or, the restaurant conveniently sits less than 100m from the area’s luxury boutiques and the famed Casino Square.

Yoshi - Bright and beautiful food, which tastes just as delightful

Veteran interior designer Didier Gomez has created a chic and sophisticated zen ambience. Apple green seating is twinned with a pan-Asian interior design, accented by pops of burnt orange and light wood panelling. The restaurant opens onto a Japanese-inspired garden designed by Parisian landscape architect Jacques Messin.

Yoshi - Chef Takeo Yamazaki pairs each dish with sake, whisky or tea

Prepare to experience umami in all its forms, as Chef Takeo Yamazaki creates a whirlwind of nigiris, makis and sashimi, all prepared on the Teppanyaki. Using the freshest ingredients, each dish is then paired with the rarest of Japanese sake, whiskies or green teas by Yoshi’s head sommelier for an unforgettable feast from the Far East.

Yoshi - Such delicate presentation promises equally intricate flavours

Quai des Artistes

Quai des Artistes - A taste of Paris in Monaco, and right by the harbour

When visiting Monaco by yacht, Quai des Artistes makes for an ideal and convenient stop off. Situated on the edge of Port Hercules, guests can move from yacht to table in just a few short steps. Seating up to 120 diners at any one time, this Parisian-style brasserie is a reliable walk-in option at any time of the day.

Quai des Artistes - Sit in the cool on a summer's day and watch the world sail by

When it comes to restaurants in Monaco with a view, few can rival the clear line of sight to the princely palace and line-up of superyachts that typically dock in front of this establishment. A shaded terrace under the arcades is the go-to in winter, while a larger terrace at the edge of the port is a summer hot spot.

Quai des Artistes - Fresh seafood to eat in or takeaway

Serving the freshest of seafood, with the option to takeaway, Quai des Artistes is an everyday favourite with the benefit of public parking under the terrace. Here is where you will find quintessential French cuisine classics, from Burgundy snails cooked in garlic butter to crepes suzette.

Quai des Artistes - Everyday French classics make this eatery a must

La Marée Monaco

La Marée Monaco - From the fish counter to your plate in elegant style

Specialising in fish, seafood, oysters and caviar, La Marée Monaco is a seafood restaurant with flair. Sourcing the best catches in the early hours at the dock, the produce is divided between tanks, kitchen and fish counter allowing guests to hand pick their order each time.

La Marée Monaco - Chef buys the catch straight from the fishing boats

Overlooking the harbour and bathed in soft light the restaurant is a heady mix of Monegasque revelry, music and sophistication. La Marée Monaco provides a non-stop service throughout the day - alongside the eatery sits the dedicated boutique serving just-cooked takeaway bites, selected straight from the fish counter.

La Marée Monaco - Music creates a chilled-out ambiance

Whether cooked in salt crust, foil or grilled, the mouth-watering menu is a carnival of the ocean. The seasonal dishes are reliant on what the fishing boats bring in, making each visit a delightful surprise for the senses. That said, an array of everyday essentials, such as salmon tartare, oyster tempura and maatjes herring guarantee a culinary adventure every visit.

La Marée Monaco - Freshly shucked oysters are always on the menu

Yacht Club de Monaco

HelloMonaco

Monaco Yacht Club: An Exclusive Oasis For Marine Lovers

10 stories about the districts of Monaco

Looking down on the Yacht Club from Monaco’s exclusive seawater Spa, “ Thermes Marins ”, the new club-house really is a magnificent icon of multi-decked architecture – inaugurated in 2014 and designed by internationally renowned architect Lord Norman Foster.

Only in the Principality’s marina could you confuse this giant structure for the yachts around it that it resembles – a yacht mirage with a gorgeous deck with luxurious swimming pool and terraces for dancing. Splendid enough for meetings of the most discerning yacht enthusiasts, including the glitterati and “Three Comma” billionaires that frequent it.

Yachts Beyond the Reach of Mere Mortals

Some of the largest and most expensive yachts in the world dock here to take in the city’s pleasures, particularly during the iconic Monaco Yacht Show. You can wander around marvelling at all of the gadgets designers can inlay on these boats like the 348-foot-long AMADEA one of the largest and most distinctive superyachts in the world with its six distinctive guest decks. Or perhaps gaze at the 365-foot-long TIS, one of the largest and most regal yachts to be launched this year.

These superyachts, like the Yacht Club itself are like private islands and wouldn’t look out of place in a James Bond movie. If billionaires Bernard Arnault or Larry Page or Larry Ellison come calling, Monaco Yacht Club sets the stage perfectly.

Home of the Grimaldi Dynasty

For over 600 years from the 12th century onwards, the Grimaldi stronghold at Port Hercule, including where the Yacht Club now preens itself, was one of the prized naval assets on the Mediterranean. Its strategic location served more than once to change the course of history.

It was around the time of the reign of Charles III of Monaco that the Principality’s reputation as an international haven of luxury and wealth took off. And Charles III had the vision to encourage the development of Monaco as a magnet for international regattas of renown to which the world flocked.

Historic Regatta Heaven

The first of these regattas were held in the bay of Monaco in 1862, so successful that in 1888 the “Société des Régates” was established by Prince Charles III and his son Prince Albert I , affectionately known as the “Oceanographer Prince”.

Almost a century of famous regattas preceded the founding in 1953 by Prince Rainier and presided over by Prince Albert II since 1984, the Yacht Club de Monaco. The Club brings together more than 2000 members from 66 nationalities. Many of the world’s most prestigious private yachts fly the Yacht Club de Monaco’s burgee, testimony to its unique position in the International yachting world.

Prince Albert’s Presidency

In April 1984, with Prince Albert’s Presidency, he developed new international events such as the Primo Cup, the biggest gathering of monotype yachts in the Mediterranean Sea. Prince Albert also put emphasis on classic Yachting with the organization from 1994 of the Monaco Classic Week for vintage and classic yachts, the Prada Challenge for Classic Yachts.

Notably, it was the first visit of Atlantic 2010 (replica of the 1903 three-mast schooner on which Charlie Barr in 1905 set the best time for an Atlantic crossing) to the Principality. Another icon, the SS Delphine (1921) steam-boat made a welcome return. It was aboard this beauty that three world leaders, Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill, negotiated at least part of the 1945 Yalta Agreement.

Yacht Seasons are typically opened with ultra-private concerts at YCM with celebrities like Sir Elton John in 2016, Duran Duran in 2017, and Sting last year. It was yet another global star Lionel Richie singing “All Night Long” this September who delighted the many boat owners and YCM members. “All Night Long” was attended by YCM President, Prince Albert II and a host of international personalities including actor-producer Samuel L. Jackson, basketball legend Magic Johnson, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and fashion designer Domenico Dolce, one of the two behind the eponymous brand D&G.

Regatta and Sports Heaven with a Golden Future

The Monaco Yacht Club from its beginnings embraced and has nurtured a prestige Regatta program that has accelerated and taken on new dimensions under Prince Albert’s Presidency.

It is worth mentioning the Primo Cup again as it has quickly established itself as the big meeting that opens the season in the Mediterranean for Europe’s one-design elite. Just a few other examples of stand-out Regattas enjoyed by YCMmembers include:

Monaco Swan One Design,  (9th-13th April 2019) organized in conjunction with the Yacht Club de Monaco,  was the first event in the 2019 Nations Trophy Mediterranean League.

Monaco Globe Week with the IMOCA 60  – 60-foot monohulls being among the fastest modern racing monohulls have raced on a course totalling 1,300 nautical miles embracing some of the most emblematic marks in the Western Mediterranean.

Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series  offers a monthly programme alternating high level regattas and training weekends for onedesigns.

As well as the Primo Cup another innovation worth a double mention here is  Monaco Classic Week. Persuaded that the reading of the past holds keys for the future Prince Albert fostered the creation and coordination during five years of a unique circuit for vintage and classic yachts, the Prada Challenge for Classic Yachts, without forgetting the acquisition of Tuiga in 1995, since becoming the flagship of the YCM. More recently the wave continued with the launching in 2005 of the “La Belle Classe” label.

The whole yachting world continues to look to Monaco to organize its most prestigious events. Within the last 12 months, 200 guests from the America’s Cup community from around the world gathered at the Yacht Club de Monaco to celebrate the launch of  the Prada Cup – the Challenger Selection Series for the 36th America’s Cup  to be presented by Prada in January 2021 in Auckland – deemed as “ the quest for oldest trophy in sport ”, the America’s Cup. Not to forget  World Rowing with the  Prince Albert II Challenge , a 6000m coastal race organised by the Societe Nautique de Monaco.

The Enthusiasm and Promise of Monaco’s Youth at YCM

Looking to the future is the Monaco Sports Academy which provides support to gifted young Monaco sailors and sportsmen taking on the world. The Academy is a close collaboration between the Yacht Club de Monaco, presided by Prince Albert and its General Secretary Bernard d’Alessandri, and Philippe Ghanem who is an active member of the Club. They share a common goal: to help young athletes living in Monaco reach the highest level in sport.

Also founded in 1970 by Prince Rainier III, the Sports Section of Y.C.M. adapts training to youngsters from as young as age six from initiation to competition and at every age.

Look out for the Monaco Optimist Team Race from 9-12 January 2020. The regatta is reserved for 20 teams of young sailors, all under 14. YCM invites the most competitive clubs with emphasis on tactics and above all team-work.

Full of youthful energy and promise is  the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge  next held on 30 June-4 July 2020. The Yacht Club de Monaco, in collaboration with the International Powerboating Federation (UIM) and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation organises the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge which is unique in the world.

How to become a new member of the Yacht Club

Anyone wishing to become a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco needs to be introduced by two “sponsors” from YCM. The sponsor’s letter of introduction will explain the applicant’s motives for joining the Club. Prince Albert, President of the Yacht Club, presides over the meetings of the admissions’ committee. The role of the sponsor is essential. The latter, must integrate him into the life of the Yacht Club, accompany him, present him to the other members but also involve him in organized events, whether they be social or sports.

The sponsor also undertakes to ensure that his “protégé” embraces the YCM’s philosophy and values, will actively engage in the Club’s life and keep its reputation at the pinnacle.

A Regal Club and Natural Host of Prestigious Events

The Yacht club reaches well beyond being a club for owners of yachts and superyachts. It is actually an immense infrastructure akin to a multi-tiered island that organises not only events connected to the yachts and regattas but also all kind of sports and social events, dances and entertainment. High society balls, conferences, exclusive business gatherings and prestigious auctions are just part of the kaleidoscope of activity.

The members of the club and their guests have at their disposition restaurants with Michelin Star chefs (including the exclusive 1909) gyms and a library – and a spa-zone, not to mention the gorgeous pool and terraces overlooking the azure bay. There is a truly great bar, a hive of social contact, with an international reputation and winner of awards for its unique cocktails and the skills of its bar staff. Endless discovery is to be found in each private niche of this island-club.

The 2023 season promises to be a busy one for the Monaco Yacht Club, which this year is celebrating the 70 th anniversary of its creation by Prince Rainier III.

With Prince Albert II of Monaco as President since 1984, the Monaco Yacht Club is once again preparing to put on some high-profile events this season.

Through “Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting”, an initiative launched by the Club, the Principality intends to further establish itself as a centre of excellence for this sector.

Here are the six key dates in 2023.

13 th Monaco Optimist Team Race (11-15 January)

The young generation got things started on Wednesday, 11 January, bringing together the international team-racing elite in the Optimist class. Sixteen nations are represented by sixty-four sailors under the age of 14.

Following the success of its Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous, whose next event will take place at the Yacht Club on 24 and 25 September, M3 (Monaco Marina Management) will also be launching the first Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous, a networking event that will run until Friday 24 March and conclude with the Smart Innovative Yacht Awards.

Thursday 23 March will conclude with the presentation of the 3 rd YCM Explorer Awards by La Belle Classe Superyachts. Prince Albert II will preside over the ceremony, which rewards boat owners who have distinguished themselves through their commitment to the preservation of the marine environment, both by the design of their yacht and their sailing.

New Women of Monaco Club unveiled on International Women’s Day

monaco yacht club lunch

The Women of Monaco Club has been launched during a Women of Monaco Lunch at the Yacht Club of Monaco. Founder Sandrine Knoell explains why she’s created this new all-female initiative.

It was during the fifth edition of the Women of Monaco Lunch, on 8 th March at the Yacht Club de Monaco, that organiser and CEO of Five Star Events Sandrine Knoell chose to launch her new concept.

More than 50 women of the Principality gathered on International Women’s Day for an event that celebrated female empowerment, creativity, professional mothers, networking and friendship.

“There are three purposes to the Women of Monaco Lunch,” Sandrina Knoell told Monaco Life . “To get together for a good cause and support the Princess Grace Foundation, to gather international women of Monaco who are linked in some way but without regards to any ethnic, linguistic, cultural economic or political differences, and to give merit through the Women of Monaco Awards.”

“Monaco is a strong supporter of women”

Raphaëlle Svara, one of the founding partners of the CMS Monaco law firm and who specialises in family law, opened the lunch with an inspiring speech about working mothers.

“Women’s Day is not a name in itself, but a time for society to raise up and focus on the differences between the lives of women and the lives of men,” said Svara. “Men are not asked to choose between their professional and personal lives, but there are many women who are asked to choose between their personal lives and a career. I am lucky enough to do both – work and change my daughters’ nappies – and I believe that taking care of my child and raising her is way more complicated than being a lawyer.”

It is a culture of understanding that runs right through the entire international law firm.

“In our firm we are four women partners, all mothers, and two male partners. We have a team of 20 people, and only three are men. It’s not that we don’t want to hire them, I think we scare them,” she said.

Raphaëlle Svara explained that the Monegasque justice system is now very supportive of women and children, saying, “The majority of judges here in Monaco are women, mothers, professionals, who have the protection of women at heart. We see this in matters particularly related to violence. The repression against men guilty of violence is very severe today and allows women and children – the victims – to feel protected and able to leave the family home.”

An art and fashion show

The Women of Monaco Lunch featured an exhibition by Soul Energy Artist Iryna Parepskaya, with works that showcase her unique “stardust blowing” technique.

Guests were also treated to a fashion show by young local stylist Isabel Fargnoli , who presented pieces from her beachwear range. Her designs are exclusively made with sustainable and natural fibers, designed in Monaco and ethically hand crafted in Italy.

Recognising the power of women

Another highlight of the event was the Women of Monaco Awards. Sandrine Knoell, a resident of Monaco for 25 years and graduate of the International University of Monaco, handed the Art and Culture Award to Safia El Malqui, the Image Award to Elisabetta Gregoraci, the Entrepreneur Award to Sabrina Monteleone-Oeino , the Green Award to Ivana Ilic-Labia, the Digital Award to Dame Marie Diamond, and the Charity Award to Francien Giraudi, the founder of the Monegasque association Les Enfants de Frankie. The association, which is celebrating its 25 th anniversary this year, supports sick, disabled or disadvantaged children in Monaco and the entire Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region by bringing them comfort and cheerfulness.

“I had a daughter who was born with a kidney malformation and it took me to America for 15 years, on and off, in and out of hospital,” Francien Giraudi told Monaco Life . “We had a very good surgeon who saved her life, but I saw what they were doing in America, what the volunteers in hospital did for the kids to make them feel better. So, I created an association in Monaco and went back to hospital, but not with my daughter, dressed up as a clown.”

Les Enfants de Frankie will celebrate its silver jubilee, under the high patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco, in November at the Opera Garnier.

Launching the Women of Monaco Club

The lunch was also an opportunity for Sandrina Knoell to announce the launch of the Women of Monaco Club, which is open to any woman who has a connection to Monaco, be it work, children or residency.

“I think it is important for the women of Monaco not to feel alone,” said Knoell. “Many have been here for only a few years, and often don’t speak French, so this is a way for them to connect with other women, to make friends, to enjoy social events together, and to get support if they have problems.”

The club will host “cocktail” events at various locations throughout the Principality, organise shopping and cultural trips outside of Monaco, and provide information and access to support networks.

Women who are interested in joining the club can call +377 97.70.78.75.

Moscow Restaurants: Best Cafe & Restaurants in Moscow on Any Budget

Home / Russia Travel Tips & Essential Advice / Moscow Restaurants: Best Cafe & Restaurants in Moscow on Any Budget

Moscow’s restaurant scene is booming with Russian dishes that are to die for. A city in the midst of a foodie revolution where almost anything goes, there is perhaps no dining scene in Europe as dynamic, exciting and adventurous as Moscow’s.

At long last, Moscow is being recognised as an international culinary destination. New eateries are popping up at an astounding rate, and first-time visitors can expect to feel a little overwhelmed when it comes to places to eat in Moscow.

This guide to eating out in Moscow covers some of the top restaurants in Moscow for any budget, from the top end of town to some of the city’s tastiest cheap eats. There are plenty of excellent options here whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch or dinner in Moscow. We’ve focused mainly on Moscow restaurants serving Russian food but thrown in some best-in-class representations of other cuisines for some added variety. In this list, you’ll find some of the most famous restaurants in Moscow, a few lesser-known gems and a few totally unique institutions which have become Moscow tourist attractions in their own right. Moscow’s food prices vary wildly. It’s easy to spend big in this town, but it’s also easy to find extremely affordable eats if you know where to look. One thing is for sure though – no matter what your tastes or budget, in Moscow, you’ll never go hungry for long.

Table of Contents

Fine Dining Restaurants in Moscow

Café pushkin.

monaco yacht club lunch

A Moscow institute is known for its impeccable fine dining Russian and French cuisine, the palatial Café Pushkin opened in 1999 and immediately attracted a loyal following among high society folk. Elaborately decorated to recreate the feel of a 19th-century aristocrat’s manor, Pushkin has become equally popular with tourists keen to soak up the stately atmosphere of pre-Revolution Russia. The menu features sophisticated interpretations of definitive Russian cuisine, with a nod to classical French techniques. The kitchen’s insistence on high-quality ingredients lifts well-known favourites to another level of complexity and refinement. The signature beef stroganoff consistently receives rave reviews, while the roasted rack of lamb is the ultimate in rich, meaty indulgence. Of course, a restaurant of this standing serves several varieties of caviar a selection of top-shelf vodkas fit for an emperor.

Despite its rather formal appearance, the Café Pushkin experience is utterly charming. The waiters dress like 19th-century servants and diners are treated like royalty, but not without a sense of fun and theatrics. Bookings well advance are recommended.

White Rabbit

Consistently ranking in Restaurant Magazine’s prestigious annual World 50 Best Restaurants list, White Rabbit is the first restaurant in Russia to receive such international acclaim. Its success (it secured 15 th place on the list in 2018) is a sure sign of Moscow’s ascendance as a global gastronomy destination.

White Rabbit’s whimsical and immersive interiors are designed to evoke a sense of fantasy and wonder, with rabbits everywhere and antique rococo furniture straight out of a Wonderland tea party. On the 16 th floor of the Smolenskiy Passazh shopping centre, White Rabbit’s glass dome captures mesmerising 360-degree views, showcasing the awe-inspiring scale of the Russian capital.

Chef Vladimir Mukhin has dreamt up an inventive European menu employing seasonal ingredients from across Russia. Standout dishes from this luxury Moscow restaurant include rabbit and cabbage rolls with potato crisps and truffle, roast suckling pig and Black Sea oysters.

One of the best and most luxurious restaurants in Moscow.  The Estate is designed in style of baroque, classicism and renaissance. This Siberian restaurant is dark and traditional. The tables are lit by small lamps with tassels, while chandeliers contribute more to mood than illumination. Mournful music plays softly, the sound absorbed by the heavy tablecloths and all the soft furnishings. The menu is a treat for the adventurous. You might start with pate of polar partridge, then go for the sweet grilled meat of Altay yak with tomato and mustard sauce; or the gamey richness of minced meat of Sayan bear with cream-cowberry sauce and buckwheat.

Grand Café Dr. Zhivago

Moscow Restaurants Grand Café Dr. Zhivago

This ornate brasserie across from the Kremlin is Russian kitsch, with oversized statues, bright red chairs, white walls and colorful ceilings. It feels anachronistic, yet it’s the creation of a modern restaurateur, Alexander Rappoport.

There’s a lightness of touch in the dishes on a long menu celebrating Russian favorites from dumplings and pickled cabbage through to goose stew with cowberry. It’s especially good for breakfast, which includes more than 20 egg dishes and about a dozen types of porridge.

Price Range: Average check RUB 2,000-2,500 (US $40) Hours: Monday to Sunday 12 pm – 12 am Address: 15/1 Mokhovaya Street Nearest Metro Station: Teatralnaya Contact Details: drzhivago.ru

The exquisite interior of 1956, picturesque views, author’s kitchen – the team of the restaurant Ottepel is inviting you to appreciate design of the reconstructed historical pavilion and enjoy ingenious dishes.

Staff wear Mondrian-inspired aprons and the menu is innovative — the restaurant specializes in upgrading well-known, simple Soviet dishes into high-end cuisine. Traditional Russian cabbage soup “shchi” (420 rubles) counts calamari among its ingredients while the ubiquitous cold soup “okroshka” (360 rubles) features salty pastrami. Another trending item is the  “koryushka” served with potatoes (380 rubles). The smelt fish originates from the Baltic sea and is immensely popular in St. Petersburg. If you seek a filling meal, try chicken in Georgian “satsivi” sauce with fried polenta and cheese (610 rubles).

It’s an innovative throwback to the Soviet era, and perfectly at home in the ramblingly grandiose exhibition park of VDNH.

Homey dining room for traditional Russian delicacies, decorated with standard lamps, bookcases and old photos on the wall. Its traditional Russian living room decoration and some Russian old school music playing in the background really gives you this “lovely Russian babushka” vibe which is part of the fun.

Portions are quite big and the price is reasonable. The menu itself is really interesting for tourists. Try out these traditional soviet Russian dishes: homemade cakes, borscht, Bird’s milk dessert. The word  uhvat  refers to a long-handled wooden utensil used to slide food in and out of a pechka, a wood-fired oven found in many Russian houses until the late 19th century. Uhvat is one of the restaurants leading the resurgence in traditional Slavic cooking, with slow-cooked dishes such as pumpkin  kashas  (a type of porridge) with honey and linden dressing (£3.50), baked roe with pickled bramble (£14)  schchi  soups with fermented cabbage and  chichelindas , an old recipe for pate, here made with ox tail (£5). Don’t leave without tasting  toplyonoe moloko , a thick creamy dessert made by baking milk for several hours. The pechka oven features in many Russian fairytales – the Baba Yaga witch shoves children into ovens – and takes the centre stage at Uhvat. Daily rituals, such as using goose feathers to dust out the ashes, enhance the magical atmosphere.

Art Rukav ( Rukav means sleeve) is a big platform where the free spirit of art and creativity reigns. There are art workshops, a gallery and a restaurant under the same roof. Rukav was named after the surname of the Russian sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov.

Immersion in the world of art begins from the very first entrance through the massive decorated door. In the cloakroom you get checks in the form of drops, bright red ladders harmonize with dark sofas… There is even a pipe-shaped slide! The place is really unique and is dramatically different from the usual places to eat. During lunches you will surely be attracted by the details in decorating: to the stylized ware, for example, or an unusual sculpture next to your chair.

Stolovaya No. 57

Moscow restaurants Stolovaya No. 57

You might not expect to find an economy-priced cafeteria inside the stately walls of GUM, an enormous shopping centre on the Red Square specialising in luxury brands. But it seems no Muscovite (wealthy fashionistas and penny-pinching students alike) can resist cheap, simple and delicious Russian comfort fare, dished out in a quaint, Soviet-style “stolovaya” (a self-service, canteen-style eatery).

Stolovaya No. 57 serves the Russian equivalent of a home-cooked meal in a standard Russian family. Salads are super-popular here, including the mayonnaise-heavy Oliver salad and shuba (“Herring in a Fur Coat”) a layered salad of pickled herring, eggs, beets, carrots and potatoes in a creamy dressing. Also on the menu are beef stroganoff, chicken kiev and chebureki (a deep-fried, meat-filled pastry turnover).

Grechka Lab

The 1914 building — home of Moscow merchant Ivan Mikhailovich Korovin, and thereafter a bakery — was converted into a bright and airy café, contemporary bakery and brunch spot in the nation’s cosmopolitan capital. Flowers placed around the windows are a nod to wheat fields (‘ grechka ’ translates to buckwheat), whilst considered seating and textured walls evoke a sense of nostalgia.

Enjoy healthy soups, mains and salads, and try tasty éclairs,  “syrniki”  and cheesecakes.

Price Range: Average check 450-600 RUB, US $6-$8 Hours: Sunday to Saturday 8am – 11pm Address: Pushechnaya St 7/5c2 Nearest Metro Station: Kuznetsky Most, Lubyanka, Teatralnaya Contact Details: grechkalab.ru, +7 495 921-02-01

This Canadian restaurant and juice bar is on a mission to prove that vegetarian dining can be filling, exciting and varied and does not necessarily need to involve stereotypical joss sticks, Indian tapestries and variations on the lentil. Interior-wise it’s as fresh as they come, all clean minimalist lines, favouring industrial materials and rough edges over cuddly pictures of ethnic tribes. On the food front, Fresh gets full marks for providing an experience that both vegetarians and meat-eaters can salivate over – huge wraps bursting with scrumptious goodies and noodles bowls brimming with both delicate and fiery Asian flavours are just some of the long list of hits.

Depo (which means ‘ depot ’ in Russian) food mall opened in Moscow in February 2019 on the premises of a former tram depot. Built between 1874 and 1910 in the industrial neo-Gothic style, the red-brick Miussky tram depot is considered an important architectural monument.

Depo houses a small farmer’s market, with fruit, vegetables, cheese and meat, as well as the largest food court in Moscow (and, allegedly, in the whole of Europe) with more than 70 stalls, where one can sample food from all over the world – from China to Thailand and from Mexico to Morocco. The food mall also regularly hosts live concerts, DJ sets, workshops and public lectures.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.
