WeatherTech founder buys Wellington estate for $23M

The property spans almost 4 acres

David MacNeil, and 13700 Quarter Horse Trail, Wellington

The founder of a car mat empire bought an equestrian estate in Wellington.

David MacNeil, the CEO of WeatherTech, bought the estate at 13700 Quarter Horse Trail in Wellington for $23.2 million, records show. The property totals 163,476 square feet, equating to a sales price of $141 per square foot.

Elite Equestrian Estates LLC, which lists its address as North Haven, Connecticut, sold the property.

The property includes a main house, caretakers’ quarters, barn, sand arena, and paddocks. The house on the property was built in 2018 and has four bedrooms and four-and-a-half bathrooms.

The property was last purchased in 2017 for $12 million, records show. The estate was listed by Carol Sollak of Engel & Völkers Palm Beach & Wellington.

MacNeil started the car floor mat manufacturing company Weathertech, which is based in Bolingbrook, Illinois. He is also an avid car collector and reportedly purchased a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO for $70 million in 2018.

Wellington is considered the winter equestrian capital of the world and is home to the who’s who of power players who have equestrians in the family. The families of billionaires such as Bill Gates , Michael Bloomberg and the late Steve Jobs, as well as celebrities Billy Joel and Bruce Springsteen, all have homes in the village.

Last month, Oscar-winning actor Tommy Lee Jones sold his Wellington equestrian estate at 12550 40th Street South for $11 million .

Billionaire superyacht showdown: who’s who in st. barths for new years 2023.

Gustavia, capital of St. Bart's.

The port of Gustavia is looking a little less crowded this holiday season, without the traditional Russian oligarch superyachts making their annual pilgrimage to the island. Gone this year are notables such as Roman Abramovich and his 553 foot megayacht Eclipse , Victor Rashnikov’s 459 foot Ocean Victory , and more. A few of the massive yachts that were not seized by the government are now anchored in locations such as Turkey, Dubai, and the Maldives.

The legendary superyacht showdown, started early with several high profile billionaires (including the richest man in the world), already anchored outside of Gustavia and neighboring St. Maarten, and Antigua. Many will stay throughout Christmas on the island of Antigua and then party with the traditional fireworks New Years Eve celebration in St Barths.

Here is a selection of some of the largest yachts that are in and around St. Barths for the holidays. It is important to note that yachts are often privately chartered during the holidays, so you may never see their wealthy owners. Detailed positions and owner information was sourced by my friends at Marine Traffic and Superyachtfan . (updated daily through January 1, 2023)

The Founder of WeatherTech Just Paid $70 Million For a Ferrari 250 GTO

It's now the most expensive car in the world

David McNeal, the founder of WeatherTech, just paid a record-breaking $70 million for a 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO that is so pristine it’s regarded as the third or fourth best example in the world by well-known Ferrari historian, Marcel Massini.

Wow. That’s the only thing you can say after hearing about this. WeatherTech founder David McNeal dropped $70 million on this 1963 Ferrari “4153” 250 GTO, and yet, the most incredible part of this whole deal is that he probably didn’t overpay for it. That’s how staggering this transaction was.

Leading Ferrari historian Marcel Massini confirmed that the sale had gone through in a private deal. That’s probably why there weren’t any signs or indications that this purchase was happening, contributing to the shock factor that we’re all experiencing now.

As far as the car itself is concerned, Massini describes it as the “Holy Grail” among the 36 Ferrari 250 GTOs that were manufactured between 1962 and 1964. Its personal history is even considered one of its most defining characteristics, helping elevate its status and price tag among all other 250 GTOs that are still around today.

According to Massini, this particular 250 GTO is the same car that won the Tour de Francine 1962, regarded by race experts as one of the most famous and historic motor races in history. It also finished fourth overall at Le Mans, was raced by Ecurie Francorchamps (one of the most iconic and famous independent Ferrari racing teams,) and has never been in a big accident, contributing to its status as a highly original model. It’s even competed in a number of other racing series and disciplines, including track races, long-distance road rallies, and hill climbs. It did undergo a bit of restoration in the 1990s by UK-based bluechip car specialist DK Engineering, but even that little asterisk wasn’t enough to prevent it from becoming the most expensive car in the world.

"This is without a doubt one of the best 250 GTOs in existence in terms of history and originality,” James Cottingham, vehicle acquisition specialist at DK Engineering, told the Express . "Its period competition is very good. It won the Tour de France which is big tick and was fourth overall at Le Mans which was a mega result.

For the car to look as good as it does with so much racing history behind it is one of the reasons why it fetched $70 million. That kind of provenance is said to be unmatched among the lot of Ferrari 250 GTOs that are still around today. No wonder it’s now the most expensive car in the world, at least until another Ferrari 250 GTO sells for $100 million, something that Massina claims is going to happen within the next five years.

For now, though, the 1963 Ferrari “4153” 250 GTO is the most expensive car in the world.

The Ferretti Group, one of the world top companies specializing in the design, building and sale of motor yachts, with an amazing portfolio of eight of the most exclusive and prominent brands, is thrilled to announce its participation in the Moscow Boat Show 2013. From 12 to 17 March, two of the Group fleet’s most successful yachts will be presented as absolute premieres for the Russian market: motor yacht Ferretti 530, representing Ferretti Yachts , and the 27-foot Iseo superyacht tender by Riva .

Ferretti 530 Yacht to make her Russian premiere at Moscow Boat Show

This year’s Moscow Boat Show will also offer the Ferretti Group the opportunity to announce all yachting enthusiasts in Russia and Northern Eurasia a new important achievement in its international growth: the renewal of its exclusive dealership agreement for the Russian Federation with its partner Premium Yachts , one of the leading dealers operating in the boating sector in Russia , which will represent the Ferretti Yachts , Pershing , Itama , Bertram , Riva e Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line brands.

The agreement – which was officially announced today during a press conference attended, among others, by Ferruccio Rossi (Ferretti Group’s CEO), Alexey Kurochkin (Premium Yachts’s President), and Stefano Campanelli (Sales Manager for the EMEA area for Ferretti Yachts, Pershing, Itama, Bertram, Riva, Mochi Craft and Ferretti Custom Line) – is part of Ferretti Group’s strategy for a further expansion on the European markets offering the best short/medium-term growth perspectives, also thanks to the financial soundness regained following the strategic partnership forged with the Weichai Group.

More specifically, the Russian boating market holds a great potential for the Ferretti Group’s development because of the rapid growth of average wealth among the population and an increasing interest for Made in Italy luxury goods, like Ferretti Group yachts.

Through the renewal of the agreement with Premium Yachts, the Group will further strengthen its highly selected distribution network – which currently includes approximately 60 dealers ensuring the best possible customer care in more than 80 countries worldwide – as well as its presence in the traditional EMEA ( Europe , Middle East , Africa ) area, one of the three macro-regions (besides the America and the Asia-Pacific) into which the Group’s sales structure is divided.

Moreover, in a medium/long-term perspective, the Ferretti Group is expecting an increasing interest on the Russian market not only for flying bridge yachts above 70’ in length, but also towards smaller crafts, both flybridge and open/coupé ones, which are particularly suitable for river cruising or pleasure boating in Russia’s large lakes. Consequently, the renewal of the dealership agreement with Premium Yachts also allows to look ahead at the future aiming to conquer new market segments where less competitors are currently present in terms of both products and geographic location.

The press conference, which was held today at the Lotte Hotel in Moscow, had also the objective of introducing attending journalists and yachting enthusiasts to the main new products launched by the Ferretti Group over the last few months, namely: motor yacht Ferretti 870 , Ferretti 690 yacht , and the project of the new flagship Ferretti 960 superyacht for the Ferretti Yachts brand; luxury yacht Pershing 82 ’ and superyacht Pershing 108’ New Edition for Pershing; Riva 63’ Virtus and the project of the new Riva flagship, 122’ Mythos yacht , as well as the entire range of the Itama, Bertram and Mochi Craft brands.

The yachts launched over the last few months by CRN – the Group’s brand specialising in the construction of steel and aluminium yachts between 40 and 90 metres – were also presented during the conference: the two superyachts: CRN superyacht Jade (60 metres long) and CRN mega yacht Chopi Chopi (80 metres long), the latter being one of the largest pleasure vessels ever built in Italy and the largest one ever built by the Ancona-based shipyard.

“The renewal of our dealership agreement with an important partner like Premium Yachts – which has worked on the Russian market for almost 10 years and can boast an outstanding product knowledge and an excellent local market penetration – and the presentation of the Group’s latest models are an integral part of our development strategy on the EMEA markets offering the best growth perspectives in the short-medium term,” stated Ferruccio Rossi, Ferretti Group’s CEO. “The Moscow Boat Show 2013, which has now reached its sixth edition, will extend over approximately 45,000 square metres this year and will be attended by more than 350 international boating companies. This Show represents an interesting business opportunity for us and an unmissable event in terms of visibility, since we are identifying a considerable growth potential in this area thanks to the timeless attractiveness of our products – true ambassadors of Made in Italy production all over the world”.
