The origins of howard’s dream vessel, inside the $145 million luxury vessel, pi’s flamboyant exterior.
Howard Schultz’s $145 Million yacht is the definition of elegance and luxury.
Howard Schultz is the CEO of the international coffee house chain Starbucks . Starting from just one coffee bean shop in Seattle, Starbucks is currently present across 77 countries with more than 30000 stores. Due to this behemoth business, Howard Schultz has accumulated a massive net worth of around $4 Billion . He bought the super luxury yacht Pi in 2019 for a staggering $145 Million.
Yachts might be tagged as extravagant, ground-breaking, or spectacular. Still, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz's $145 Million super yacht, Pi, the epitome of elegance and luxury, has also been given the title of ‘Auspicious.’
The Pi Yacht was built in 2019 by a Dutch shipyard known as Feadship. With a length of around 77.8 meters, Pi was the 22nd largest boat built by Feadship, as reported by Superyacht Times . She is a magnificent piece of art with an aluminum superstructure and steel hull. The Pi boasts a unique design created using state-of-the-art glass technology from a computer-aided 3D design.

She was formerly known as Syzygy 818, a lucky name per Chinese numerology. She bears the former owner's name, whose birthday is August 18. Consequently, the superyacht's official name also included the number. The second part of her name, Syzygy, is an astrological term that describes the rare occurrence when three celestial bodies line up precisely in the sky.
With extraordinary build quality , outstanding design, and innovation, the PI is on the verge of perfection. The yacht's stunning Zen-inspired interiors were built by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, and De Voogt Naval Architects looked after the naval design as per Yacht Bible . One of the best features of Pi is the placement of floor-to-ceiling windows without mullions, which realizes the owner's idea of the main saloon, which genuinely complements the exterior.
Her elegant and welcoming atmosphere is accentuated by ageless design, magnificent furniture, and comfortable seating. At the 2019 World Superyacht Honors, Pi won awards for Motor Yacht of the Year and Best Displacement Motor Yacht Between 1,500GT and 1,999GT, according to Luxury launches . The finishing touch that provided Howard Schultz with a winner to sail was the flawless construction quality of the Feadship.
The yacht can accommodate up to 12 guests in 16 opulent guest rooms with a staff of 18 people. She has a luxurious spa and a pool with a glass bottom, among other features. The comfortable and stylish Pi features several distinctive features, including a spectacular spiral staircase connecting three floors and a large sitting area with a sofa accommodating eight people. She also boasts of a helipad and a garage.
With a length of 77.8 meters and a width of 11 meters, Pi is the 195th largest yacht in the world, as per News Rebeat . An aluminum superstructure supports the Pi's teak decks and steel hull, and she weighs around 1,592 tons. She comfortably sails at 16 knots and can attain a top speed of 18 knots thanks to dual diesel MTU 16-cylinder 2,700hp engines operating at 1800rpm. At-anchor stabilizers on Pi offer outstanding levels of comfort. Her freshwater tanks have a capacity of about 33,168 liters. She was constructed under the standards of the Lloyds Register classification society.
The vessel's external lines stand out for their inventive use of structural glass with a twofold curvature. The ship, which Jarko Jammsen created as his first superyacht project, has four decks ideally suited for guests' relaxation and entertainment. The big main deck aft can be set up for a casual setting, outdoor dining, or a lot of sunbathing. Additionally, a large upper deck behind the ship connects to the flush foredeck through side walkways. The best location on board for viewing the surroundings is the sundeck above.
Howard Schultz has got himself a yacht as exquisite as his coffee beans. He has transformed Starbucks and his life sailing in style with his $145 Million Pi. With her classy interiors, flamboyant exterior, and state-of-the-art technology, Pi is certainly a game-changer in the category of luxury Yachts.

Luxury yacht owned by Starbucks billionaire appears off Devon coast
- West Country
- Thursday 28 January 2021 at 2:44pm
A luxury yacht owned by a Starbucks coffee billionaire turned heads in Torbay after mooring off the Devon coast.
The 77-metre long vessel, which is worth an estimated £118million, appeared in the bay at the weekend.
It belongs to the owner of Starbucks Howard Schultz, an American businessman who bought the coffee chain in the 1980s.
He is ranked by Forbes as the 209th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $4.3billion.
The yacht, meanwhile, can accommodate up to 12 guests and 18 crews and boasts its own helicopter pad, glass-bottomed swimming pool and onboard spa facilities.
It is called Pi and was built in the Netherlands in 2019.
It anchored among the ever-changing backdrop of stranded cruise ships in the bay, which has been nicknamed “the Torbay car park” during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pi has since left the bay, and online shipping websites suggest it has since crossed the English Channel and is heading south off Lisbon in Portugal.
Among the eyewitnesses was Mike Wilkie, who posted an image of the yacht on social media with the caption: “If you ever wondered what really happened to Darth Vader, well he’s on board this yacht that arrived here today.”
His caption was a reference to the large, Darth Vader-shaped scanners and equipment on top of the vessel.

A luxury superyacht owned by the man who transformed Starbucks from a Seattle coffee bean store into a global brand has arrived in UK waters. The vessel, named Pi, is worth an estimated £118 million ($144 million) and was spotted entering Falmouth harbor yesterday morning before moving to Pendennis Shipyard later in the afternoon.
The ship was built in 2019 by a Dutch company named Feadship. It is the 21st largest vessel the company has ever made with dimensions of 254ft in length and 37ft wide, positioning it as the 195th largest yacht in the world.
With two engines, it can reach speeds of 18.4 knots. It is owned by Howard Schultz, ranked by Forbes magazine as the 209th richest person in the world, with a net worth of $4.4billion (£3.68billion). Pi can host up to 12 guests and 18 crew members and has its own helicopter pad, glass-bottomed swimming pool and onboard spa facilities.
Schultz is credited as Starbucks’ founder despite the company being founded in 1971 by Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl, and Gordon Bowker at Seattle’s Pike Place Market.
Back then, Starbucks was merely a coffee bean store but it became a full-fledged cafe after Schultz bought it in the early 1980s.
Later he transformed it into the international coffee shop brand.
It is likely that the superyacht is undergoing some work at Pendennis Shipyard, which is one of the world’s leading superyacht refit and custom build facilities.
The site employs over 450 skilled tradespeople and has completed more than 300 refit projects and 30 custom-made build projects on some of the most iconic yachts in the world.

Syzygy 818 sold and renamed Pi
The 77.3m feadship-built vessel was delivered in summer 2019….
Feadship’s 77.25m Pi has been sold to an unnamed client. The 77.3m vessel, formerly called Syzygy 818 prior to the point of sale, was delivered by the Dutch yard this summer to great acclaim, and was among the stars of this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.
While details of the sale have yet to be confirmed, SuperyachtNews is aware that the price is in line with The Superyacht Agency’s proprietary brokerage sales price modelling tool , which currently values Pi at €134.9 million ± €5 million.
As is apparent from our model, Pi represents the third most valuable superyacht in the delivered Feadship fleet behind 101.5m Symphony (€129.8 million) and 110.0m Anna (€177.9 million).
The vessel, whose exterior lines are noteworthy for their extraordinary use of double curvature structural glass, was designed by Jarko Jammsen, representing his inaugural superyacht project. The interiors are the work of Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design, with naval architecture from De Voogt Naval Architects.
The seller is a client of KK Superyachts, the company that oversaw the management of the project and its delivery.
Feadship has three deliveries scheduled for 2020 at an average LOA of 77.7m.

6 future superyacht trends
Article written by BOAT International Published on September 3, 2024
Advanced technology, innovative design concepts and a growing emphasis on sustainability are just some of the ways in which superyachts are continuing to evolve, and staying ahead of these emerging trends is crucial for designers, builders and enthusiasts alike. Looking at some of today’s stand-out features, we offer a glimpse into what could define the next generation of superyachts.
Responsive design As technology expands and develops, there is a growing trend for designers looking to intertwine art with technology. Responsive design, also known as immersive art, has been a big talking point in the industry recently.
A major project which caught attention back in 2020 was 107.2-metre Luminosity’s 370-square-metre interactive LED walls, designed by Zaniz Studio. Since then, responsive design has become ever more popular on board, with Perini Navi’s 46.5-metre ArtExplorer showcasing a 16-metre cinematic tunnel whose walls are wrapped in LED light installations.
Currently, responsive design plays with movement and light but in the future, we might see the trend encompass touch, smell and temperature.
Nature takeover We’re already seeing a shift towards yacht designs that champion an improved connection to the water – like the open aft deck on the Benetti Oasis models or the underwater viewing lounges on board 83.5-metre Savannah and 75-metre M’Brace.
The next phase may see greenery make more of an appearance on board. A recent nature-focused project that stole the spotlight was Heesen’s 67-metre Sparta, its three decks symbolising the elements of water, earth and air.
Interior restyling During and after the pandemic, we saw a significant spike in yacht usage among both owners and charterers, with some spending weeks at a time at sea.
Based on this, we might expect to see people readjust their attitude toward their yachts by focusing less on wow factor and more on comfort and liveability. Instead of grand pianos, elaborate dining saloons and disused Jacuzzis, owners may opt for additional offices, larger gym areas or cosy media rooms.
Central to this ethos is Nuvolari Lenard’s 202-metre Centerfold concept, a design that evokes feeling, according to the studio, rather than purely aesthetics. Interior styling is also shifting towards neutral tones and comfortable furnishings as opposed to cool, contemporary themes designed for dazzling, rather than living.
The power of artificial intelligence It’s no doubt that AI is beginning to weave its way into many industries, and this is no different in the world of yacht design.
Over the past year, we have seen various shipyards and designers embrace AI in order to enhance the guest experience on board. Azimut was one of the first with the installation of smart home automation on board the Magellano 60.
More recently, Rossinavi harnessed the power of AI to maximise environmental efficiency on board the 43-metre hybrid-electric Seawolf X. Whilst AI is still in its infancy, the industry has so far proven that the technology can be useful in numerous ways on board, and we can expect this evolve rapidly in the coming years.
Explorer-style amenities Alongside strong demand for explorer yachts we’ve also seen an uptick in trend for explorer-style features, even on regular superyachts.
Holterman’s 32.6-metre Lady Fleur is a good example of this, incorporating a hydraulic aft platform that doubles as a tender bay and swimming pool. Warming firepits, larger toy lockers and toy-carrying aft decks are becoming more commonplace, with Wider’s 49.9-metre Stern able to house a submersible.
In keeping with that theme, yachts may start to get more rugged and functional in appearance – something that’s highlighted by the booming in the popularity of conversion superyachts.
Glass galore The use of glass has grown in the past few years, with more designers beginning to use it for aesthetic purposes as well as functional ones.
We’ve also seen it become more frequently used for structural purposes too, as the material becomes more durable and easier to work with.
From Feadship’s 77.2-metre Pi’s glass-clad saloon to Oceanco’s 90-metre Dar’s glossy glass exterior, it’s making a big appearance on the exterior. In the future, we may start to see glass introduced more heavily on the interior as well.

Due to the international and fluid nature of the yachting business and the fact there is no global central industry listing service to which all charter yachts subscribe it is impossible to ascertain a truly up-to-date view of the market. We are a news and information service and not always informed when yachts leave the charter market, or when they are recently sold and renamed it is not clear if they are still for charter. Pi – The ultimate superyacht
Jarkko Jämsén, co-founder of Aivan, was invited to create the concept, interior layout and exterior design for a superyacht. In close collaboration with the owner client, he and the other team members created a totally unique vessel from scratch that is custom-made down to every detail.
Pi – originally Syzygy 818 – is a 77.25m motor yacht. The vessel’s top speed is 18.4kn and is powered by two MTU diesel engines. Pi can accommodate up to 12 guests in 6 staterooms, with 18 crew members. Pi has a gross tonnage of 1592.0GT and a 11.0m beam. The interior of the yacht was designed by Sinot.
Pi was built at Feadship – Royal Dutch Shipyards in the Netherlands. Feadship is a cooperative venture between two shipyards Royal Van Lent Shipyard and Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw. Feadship designs and constructs high-end luxury yachts and is one of the leading builders of custom superyachts.

Tuukka Koski – superyacht Aivan – making of
“ We created the concept and the layout together with the owner’s representative, the owner and myself. It was challenging for me as a designer because the owner was so good that I had to do even better than I thought I could to meet his standards.”
“ A full-custom design project needs to be a fun process for both myself and the client. Without the client, there is no boat: it is so much more than just an object.”
Very best of the best
"A vessel that is considered exceptional by any measure." The prestigious Motor Yacht of the Year is a sought-after title, and Pi's excellence made her a worthy winner. The judges admired her harmonious exterior lines and the overall perfection of her construction. They also praised the team for coming up with ingenious solutions to engineering challenges.
“ I am heavily interested in new technology and love pushing the boundaries of what different materials can do. Like windows. This vessel has the most amazing windows ever built on a superyacht.”

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.
Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.
Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.
The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".
"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.
"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."
He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".
"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.
It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.
On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.
Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.
It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.
Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.
