How to Repair Gelcoat

Gelcoat is the protective coating that covers the fiberglass of boats and other watercraft. When you get a gouge or a scratch in the gelcoat of your fiberglass, you will have to clean it up by grinding or sanding before you can repair it. Then, you’ll need to buy a wax gelcoat repair kit that matches the color of your gelcoat and carefully apply it to the damaged area. To finish the job off, sand it again until it is completely smooth, then buff and wax it to get it looking like new.

Cleaning Up the Damaged Spot

• A Dremel tool is a rotary tool that you can attach all kinds of bits to for things like sanding, grinding, and polishing. A burr bit is a type of bit that comes in various cone shapes and can be used for sanding and grinding. You can get both things at a home improvement store or order them online.
• Use this method for deep gouges or chips that have sharp edges.
• You just want to remove the sharp edges of the gouge so the new gelcoat will blend in with the surrounding gelcoat better.

Warning : Wear safety glasses when operating a rotary tool so you don’t get any dust in your eyes.

• You can use this method for very thin scratches that don’t have sharp edges.

• If there is a lot of dust from sanding and grinding, you can also use a vacuum with a hose attachment to suck it up.

• If you are working in an area where the new gelcoat could drip down, then mask off the area below it with tape as well to protect it. You can tape plastic sheets over large areas to protect them.

Applying and Finishing New Gelcoat

• Gelcoat repair kits are available at marine supply shops, home improvement centers, paint supply stores, and online. A marine supply shop may be able to provide you with an exact match for your model and color of boat if it is a current model.
• Wax gelcoat is the best option to repair gelcoat because it will cure in the air without any additional components needed.

• Wear gloves, safety glasses, and a face mask when you mix the gelcoat.
• If your gelcoat repair kit doesn’t come with a mixing stick, then use a clean craft stick (like a wooden popsicle stick) to mix the gelcoat.
• Different gelcoat repair kits require you to add different amounts of hardener, also known as catalyst, to the gelcoat mixture so that it cures properly. Make sure you use the exact ratios or your gelcoat will either dry too quickly or won’t cure all the way.

Warning : Make sure you mix enough of the gelcoat to repair the entire damaged area at once. If not, it may not all cure at the same rate.

• If you are repairing an area where you sanded out light scratches, then just rub an approximately 1 ⁄ 32  in (0.079 cm) layer of the putty over the sanded area with the mixing stick.
• You will have about 10-15 minutes to work before the gelcoat starts to harden.

• Touch the gelcoat to make sure it is hard before you proceed to sand it. If it still feels sticky or tacky, then let it dry longer until it is hard.

• If the area still feels rough after you use 400-grit sandpaper, you can keep working your way up all the way to about 1000-grit sandpaper until you are happy with the smoothness.

• Remove the tape from around the repaired area before you begin buffing.
• Wipe away the haze from the rubbing compound with a clean cloth as you go.

• Once the wax has dried, after about 15 minutes in the sun, you can wash your whole boat and give the whole thing a second coat of wax so that the repaired area and the rest of the boat are equally shiny.

The international Repair Café slogan is “Toss it? No way!” The Moscow Library wants to help our community put that idea into action — so we offer four free Repair Cafés a year. Community members can save money, learn new skills and keep as many things out of the landfill as possible by bringing items in need of repair to the 1912 Center Great Room. Volunteer experts will share their repair skills in such areas as clothing and textiles; book mending; small appliances; knife sharpening; jewelry; and gluing options. We make no guarantee that items will be fully repaired, and it’s understood that you bring items at your own risk. But hey, you can learn a repair skill, it’s free, and it’s a fun way to socialize with your community. Bonus: light refreshments are provided.

GELCOAT VT REPAIRKIT is suitable for repairing minor damage, even below the waterline. Various colours are available and can be mixed together. If your exact colour is not available, it can be adjusted with PU pigment paste . The kit contains: 180 g gelcoat, 20 g hardener paste, hostaphan film, tape, sandpaper, plastic spatula and a manual. Cures at +20° in approx. 30 minutes. Tip Instead of hostaphan film, PET film can be used for separation. When using, always apply a layer of at least 1 mm thick to ensure full cross-linking during the curing process.

Weilburg, Germany  — December 3,  2019  —  FEIG ELECTRONIC , a leading global supplier of radio frequency identification (RFID) readers and antennas with fifty years of industry experience, announces deployment of the UCODE DNA RFID security and parking contactless identification solution in the Moscow International Business Center, known as Moscow-City, one of the world’s largest business district projects.

The management of Moscow-City not only selected long-range, passive UHF RFID to implement in its controlled parking areas, it also chose to implement UCODE DNA , the highest form of secure RAIN RFID technology, developed by NXP Semiconductors.

“Underscoring NXP’s innovation and leadership in developing advanced RAIN RFID technologies, our UCODE DNA was chosen to be incorporated with the FEIG and ISBC implementation of the contactless identification system in the prestigious Moscow-City,” said Mahdi Mekic, marketing director for RAIN RFID with NXP Semiconductors. “This exciting project represents yet another successful deployment of NXP’s contactless portfolio, and showcases our continued ability to meet the high-security requirements of highly demanding applications without compromising user convenience.”

“UCODE DNA is considered the only identification technology to match the physical protection of a barrier with the cybersecurity necessary to truly protect entrances from unauthorized access,” said Manuel Haertlé, senior product manager for FEIG Electronic. “As a respected contactless payment technology company, FEIG applies security know-how from its payment terminals, which are fully certified according to the latest high-class security standards, into our RFID systems. FEIG vehicle access control RFID readers incorporate advanced secure key storage elements, supporting various methods for secure key injection.”

FEIG’s partner ISBC Group provided the knowledge and support for this successful implementation using  FEIG’s long-range UHF RFID . The resulting system enables authorized vehicle entry into areas reserved for private residential use or corporate tenants, while also allowing availability of temporary, fee-based visitor parking. Thanks to the cryptographic authentication of UCODE DNA, both the tag and reader must go through an authentication procedure before the reader will validate the data from the tag, which is transmitted wirelessly. This level of authentication is typically used in the most secure data communication networks.

“The system’s two-step authentication means that only authorized equipment can handle the secure protocol and the data exchange with the UCODE DNA based tag. Without the required cryptographic secrets, other readers would query the tag in vain, because the tag’s response cannot be interpreted or understood,” said Andrey Krasovskiy, director of the RFID department at ISBC Group. “On top of this, each data exchange in the authentication process is unique, so even if a malicious actor were to intercept the communication, the transmission is only good for a single exchange and the tag’s unique identity is protected from cloning.”

History of Halloween dates back to the ancient traditions of the Celts. For the first time the name of the holyday is mentioned in the 16th century as a Scottish shortening of the English «All-Hallows-Even», which translates as «The evening of All Saints».

Halloween has gained a lot of popularity in Russia for the past years. This year the celebration takes place on holidays, therefore, you have 3 days to party – from October 31 to November 2! We Heart Moscow has chosen the brightest and crowded with ghosts Halloween parties in Moscow.

FUNNY HALLOWEEN PARTY AT THE «16 TONS»

While different places compete with each other to do the holiday as scary as possible, «16 tons» Club will make the audience feel scary funny.

This celebration is for those who are tired of the ubiquitous zombies and witches that fill all the clubs in the night of October 31. This is not necessarily come in scary costumes – just dress up to have as much fun as possible!

The founders of the legendary club «Arma 17» have announced first of five global parties, to be held this year. Halloween Party will last 24 hours and will take place at the territory Trekhgornaya manufactory.
