WHAT CLIENTS SAY

This is truly a 5 * service. The team really looked after us both ashore on arrival and also while at sea. We were a relatively inexperienced crew but always felt the team ashore had our backs. Thoroughly recommended.

I just wanted to say Thank-you very much for the weekend charter. It was exactly what we were after (albeit cold!) plus Andy was an awesome teacher and great company. We’ll definitely be keen to book again soon!

We had a fabulous four days. Marina is ideally placed for the Solent, boat was in great condition, well equipped and a joy to sail. We were well briefed and the shore side team including the dog very friendly.

We charted one of the sailing yachts for a fantastic weekend cruise in the Solent. The boat was in superb condition and well equipped, the staff was very helpful explaining how things work on the yacht and there was also a video available with all the important information. 10/10 would recommend!

Had a fantastic week chartering Blue Otter, Alex was incredibly helpful and sent loads of information and date checking prior to booking. There was a handover video and both the handover and return were really smooth. The boat was lovely and well maintained and Lee was really helpful in recommending places to visit (and helping identify the steering issue as an autopilot takeover - doh!). Definitely will be back and would fully recommend!

Just back from a lovely week in the Solent. Great service from HPYC from first inquiry through to return handover. Very straightforward to deal with, and the yacht was in excellent condition. We've chartered from many companies in the UK and abroad and the attention to detail (and flawless inventory!) was second to none. Everything about the yacht and equipment had clearly been well looked after and was in immaculate condition. Great service, will use again.

Always very friendly service, and well-maintained yachts. Easy check-in and checkout. Will be back...

We had a great time and were very happy with everything. Your team were genuinely friendly and were very helpful when we needed it. Is a big contrast to many charter companies I have dealt with in the past.

Watching the sun go down with a glass of bubbly on the deck of a sparkling yacht was unbelievable. What a treat, and a much needed change of scenery in these troubled times. We will be back for sure

Fab service, nothing too much trouble, including my daft questions. I'll be a repeat customer for sure!

We had a great time sailing with Lee for a few days at the beginning of September. Hamble Point Yacht Charters supplied us an impeccable 45 ft Hanse yacht, which was handled with complete mastery by Captain Lee. It was a privilege to sail with Lee, who is clearly a highly skilled professional taking great pride in his work ... but who is also a fantastic character with a great sense of humour and plenty of fun stories to keep the whole family entertained. He balances the serious side of safety and learning about sailing with a whopping dose of amusement and good cheer. We sailed the Solent in some decent seas, visited Bucklers Hard on the banks of the Beaulieu River and learned lots about British nautical history. Our boys started somewhat of a fishing trend catching bass off the back of the boat in Portsmouth and we would love to sail with Lee again in the future. The man truly knows his stuff, maintained the boat impeccably and went to every effort to ensure that we had a great time. Many thanks to “Shippers” and Hamble Point Charters. We’ll be back.

Chartered bareboats with HPYC on numerous occasions most recently in Sept 2020. Always helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic weekend sailing on Loxley B. Boat in super condition and spotlessly clean, Alex. and the team very thorough and always on hand to answer any questions. A great experience. We will be back. Thank you!

Lots of information from office with a friendly service. We selected a one of the cheaper yachts and was please with find everything work and was cleaned and tidy. We will definitely be back

This was the first time we had tried chartering and as experienced racing sailors we didn't know what to expect. Covid has closed down all our events this year so this was a chance to get afloat at least once in 2020. What a great experience and Alex and all the Hamble staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. We had a great three days and we will be back !! We would have no hesitation is recommending Hamble Point Yacht Charters.

Though not quite as crowded as the myth would have it, thanks to the double high tide and reliable, steady winds that funnel through it, this is one of the best sailing destinations in the world. Whether standing ashore and watching America’s Cup, Vendee Globe and other cutting edge craft fly at impossible speeds or simply pottering about afloat yourself, you cannot ignore sailing on this crucible of British yachting.

Competition is one of the core elements of sailing on the Solent. From bases like Cowes, the Hamble, Portsmouth Harbour, Gosport and Lymington you will see some of the best sailors and yachts in the world in action on the best craft marine architects have ever developed.

You don’t, however, have to be a Ben Ainslie, Alex Thomson or Robin Knox Johnson to have fun on these waters. At about 20 miles long (even more including nearby Poole Harbour) there are many marinas and waterways big and small that take craft ranging from 350,000-tonne oil tankers to 15ft RIBs and everything in between.

This area is so diverse in its water sports that almost anything goes. You may charter for the competition such as Cowes Week with or without a professional skipper an even a MOD70 trimaran to break a world record!

However, there are ample opportunities to use the waters as a jumping-off point to explore the UK South Coast on a multi-day trip or even just to venture out on a day sail to the Isle of Wight.

Hiring A Yacht In The Solent

Whatever your budget or plans for a Solent yacht charter there is something for you. You can hire a RIB to take your friends for a blast up Southampton Water or go fishing on the backwaters around Lymington or Christchurch. You can charter to race in one of the hundreds of sailing events that take place from there from club events to the Round the Island Race and Cowes Week.

The South Coast and Isle of Wight have so much to offer in terms of hospitality to yachtsmen that you could just go on a multi-day pub crawl between Lymington and Chichester, challenging your liver with a daily onslaught of fine foods and beer – sometimes with a dedicated pub dock! Just over 100 miles away is Normandy and the Channel Islands for those seeking adventure and a change of scene.

If you have the right qualifications for the vessel you need (we will discuss these later) then you will find it easy to rent the boat you want. You just need to pay the fee for the boat, a security deposit and off you go.

Best Areas To Charter A Yacht In the Solent

No matter where you go in this area by sea nowhere is more than an afternoon’s journey even on a plump cruising monohull. There is so much to explore – and the sailing is so varied – that you could revisit these waters for years and still have a lot to learn!

Both on the English mainland and the Isle of Wight there are a large number of places from which to charter from. Let’s look at the main areas to sail out of.

Southampton Water: This is a major waterway in its own right. Stretching from Calshot Spit right up to the River Test it has deep, navigable waters with channels up to 30 metres deep even at low tide. That means everything that floats can – and often is – seen on this waterway. The yachting centres of the Rivers Itchen and Hamble both feed into the estuary – you will see every vessel here from Optimists to container ships.

Chichester, Poole and Christchurch: These are three natural harbours that are big enough to sail on and not really need to leave in their own right! Whether fishing, serious sailing or just poking around the backwaters these are some of the best water sports venues in the world bar none. The River Lymington and Beaulieu River are nice retreats from the hustle and bustle of the main channel area.

The Isle of Wight: This is home to Cowes Week and has a long boating history. Many pubs serve food in sufficient quantity to sate a hungry sailor yet don’t skimp on quality – though some are hard to book a table at even a year ahead! Circumnavigating the island can be done in just hours on a carbon race machine, though most sailors try to time it by the tides so the wind isn’t the only thing that drives them!

Best Towns To Charter A Yacht From:

Below is a list of the main towns from which to hire boats from:

Southampton: Ocean Village is the main marina in the city that is famed as being the departure point of the Titanic (which left from where the marina is today). Many a major race has been based out of there from the Whitbread to the Clipper Round the World Race.

However, you have the marinas on the River Itchen that may seem quieter but still have an impact on the yachting world.

Hamble le Rice: At the mouth of one of the most popular sailing rivers in the world, Hamble le Rice has a number of marinas that are home to everything from multimillion-pound racing yachts to modest tubs sailed at the weekends by locals. It has some brilliant pubs and restaurants frequented by yachting types that help make the village one of the yachting Meccas of the world.

Hamble River: With the marinas of Hamble le Rice, Warsash and Swanwick, as well as its easy access to Southampton Water and Port Hamble, the River Hamble has been used for sailing over hundreds of years. Royal Navy and merchant ships used to be built and repaired on its shores and today the Warsash Maritime Academy teaches merchant and leisure sailors the skills they need to travel the world safely. Many a boat lies on its mooring buoys – a privilege for the owner to get that can involve years on waiting lists!

Lymington: Home to some of the top yacht designers and even a leading sailing publication or two Lymington sits on the western edge of the area itself. Though shallow in spots and there are speed restrictions further up, this is one of the jumping off points for many a sailing adventure. You can even take a trip by car ferry to the Isle of Wight and Yarmouth across the water

Poole: Poole Harbour is a boating centre in its own right, just a decent couple of hours’ reaching away. This natural harbour with its islands and beaches is widely held as one of the best places to potter about in boats in the world, and is home to the RNLI and superyacht builders Sunseeker.

Chichester: Another stunning natural harbour on the eastern edge of the area, much of Chichester Harbour is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and has much to explore without going into open water.

Portsmouth and Gosport: Portsmouth has long rivalled Southampton as the nautical centre of the United Kingdom. The city itself is an island, and is a busy commercial, naval and leisure harbour with Gunwharf Quay at the heart of the scene. The UK’s America’s Cup team base is here, and across in Gosport you may notice a boat or two that’s designed to take on the world too.

Cowes and the Isle of Wight: The Royal Yacht Squadron is based on the northern shore of Cowes, a 10 minute walk from the fast catamaran ferry to Southampton. That’s not the be-all and end-all of sailing on the Isle of Wight. The River Medina is navigable almost to Newport, while Bembridge and Yarmouth are major sailing centres in their own right.

Types Of Yachts To Hire:

Almost everything that can float has been on these waters, here's a list of options below:

Sailing Yachts : Yachts come in a variety of sizes from 150ft+ monsters to lightning-quick dinghies. Traditionally the monohull sailing yacht is comfortable if slovenly charter yacht of choice. You can charter for a week or two to explore the South Coast and beyond. There is a variety of vessels beyond that fit this description too.

Motorboat : Motor cruisers or a motor yacht come in different sizes from a comfortable 35ft right up to the fully crewed superyachts or luxury yacht charter. They are simpler to drive than a sailing yacht and are a good way of covering a decent daily distance. Plymouth or even Le Havre aren’t outside a day’s motoring on a motorboat.

Catamaran : The catamarans most commonly chartered are luxury yachts with all the comforts you need yet can be sailed without a professional crew. They are spacious and comfortable with great entertaining spaces, perhaps after watching the events on the water that day or for business networking.

RIB: You can hire a RIB of different sizes for getting about the area in speed and style. On a larger rib charter , you can large inboard engines and water jets for speed and manoeuvrability, and have the space to take more than five guests with you – sometimes even in an enclosed bridge. The smaller ones can be fun either as workboats or just for a jolly.

Speedboat: A speedboat is more of a day boat than a machine for powering across the Channel. These are fun for entertaining guests and watching the world go by as you sprint around this famous waterway.

Skippered Charter or Bareboat Yacht Hire:

You don’t need to know much to enjoy life afloat in this area and you can hire a skipper for as little as £150 a day.

Skippered Yacht Hire: You may have the experience but not the confidence to go it alone, or you may just want to do something completely different to live ashore by going sailing for a day, week or more. For a fee that differs according to the size and type of vessel, you can have a skippered yacht charter. You can also do a sailing course in this way as there are many RYA training centres which run RYA courses in the area or focus on relaxing – the choice is yours.

Bareboat Yacht Charter: If you have the qualifications and confidence to take a boat out yourself then you can book a bareboat charter. Many people choose not to own a big-ticket item like a boat these days but instead charter in different locations around the world. This could be you – whether a blast out to lunch on the Isle of Wight on a sunny day or a week up the South Coast, you’re free to choose.

Do you need a licence to hire a Yacht In The Solent?

Unlike many nations of the world, you do not need qualifications to sail on British waters as long as the vessel is under 20 metres or so in size. Smaller, less powerful yachts and dinghies can often be hired on this basis. That said, insurance companies have other ideas where it comes to chartering many vessels. It will be easier to charter a RIB or speedboat if you have at least an RYA Powerboat Level 2. For an overnight yacht charter or a motorboat, monohull or catamaran you will have less trouble if you have an ICC, RYA Day Skipper or ASA 104 Bareboat.

If you are hiring a skipper to sail the boat for you, you again don’t need to be an experienced sailor.

Best Times To Hire A Yacht In The Solent

You will see hardier types on the water almost any time of the year. There will be times in March and September when it is very good sailing weather too. April to September is the typical season for many, with July and August the busiest times.

Between early and mid-August you will find the waters at their busiest with Cowes Week and the Round the Island Race a highlight. You may be racing or like thousands, just taking in the atmosphere and marine sights.

The Southampton International Boat Show typically heralds the end of the sailing season in September.

Sailing Weather In The Solent

Through most of the year, you will see westerlies process up the Channel as they arrive in Europe having crossed the Atlantic. In Spring, summer and early autumn, these can be the very best sailing weather. At almost any time of the year however a nasty low pressure can blast through, and when strong westerlies hit the Needles on the westernmost point of the Isle of Wight they funnel down through the channel between the mainland and the Isle of Wight and can hit big speeds.

During the summer you can get easterlies and these tend to be rather gentle with flat calms common. As with the westerlies, there can be some funnelling and you will often get more of a breeze than outside of the area.

The Isle of Wight can cause a wind shadow for southerlies that sometimes can hammer the South Coast in summer. That’s good until around Calshot when you can find yourself in bigger winds thanks to the funnelling of Southampton Water. Calshot Spit at least keeps the waves gentler than they might be to the south.

How much does it cost to hire Yachts in The Solent?

For a Solent charter, a lot depends on your budget but for as little as £50 you can take a smaller day boat out for a few hours on a day charter. £120 a day will get you a smaller boat you can spend the night aboard. £500 a day a mid-sized motor cruiser, and £1000 a day a catamaran . Superyachts with a crew will cost a lot more.

There are seasonal variations to these costs, with supply and demand being a factor that drives the market.

Yes it is. Yachting is a multibillion pound industry in the area and you can legally hire almost anything that you wish, as long as you conform to insurance requirements.

You are typically able to hire catamarans, motor cruisers, RIBs, monohull sailing yachts, and speed boats. These come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and a lot depends on your budget, most options can we chartered with crew or bareboat.

Your main consideration should be the purpose of using it. The next thing to consider is your qualifications and experience to take it on one of the busiest waterways in the world. How much can you afford? Between these three you should narrow your decision down.

The best time can be June and early July with great winds and often enough excellent weather. August is far busier and typically pricier, but May and September while the kids are at school can be great times to go afloat too, at a lower cost.

Yes you do. You will have to pay up to 50% on agreeing to book the vessel, and then the balance on the day. You will also have to pay a security deposit or for insurance against damage.

If you are in grave danger and are about to sink or have had a serious collision you should call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16. If you can get to a mooring first, do so then phone the charter company who will help you with your problem.

What’s your experience in taking a boat out? This might lead to you getting a skipper or a smaller craft. Are you qualified to take a boat out of this type? What’s your budget? Have your crew experience sailing? This might limit your plans if none. Think of the younger and less mobile folk you have with you.

If you are from North America, Australasia and much of Europe you should be alright without one. Do check with the UK Embassy in your country if you are uncertain.

We are confident that our prices are the most competitive and transparent in the market.

We won't charge any booking fees when you make a booking with us.

We have the highest number of verified and vetted boats available on the market.

England, discover the main regions, boat hire in portsmouth.

Last update on 13 December 2022

The city of Portsmouth is located on the northeast coast of the Solent, on the island of Portsea (separated from the rest of England by the Portsbridge Creek), between Portsmouth Harbour to the west and Langstone Harbour to the east, and facing the Isle of Wight. Southampton, north-west, is the nearest large city of Portsmouth.

Being based on an island, Portsmouth offers a natural port that has its main historical interest. The island was virtually uninhabited before the twelfth century. However, the beginning of the fifteenth century saw the development of a naval base. To the west of this port is Gosport.

Portsmouth is one of the few city-island of the United Kingdom and the limited space for a significant number of inhabitants making it the second most densely populated area of all the UK after central London.

The north of the island is separated from the English land by a narrow stream that gives the island the appearance of a peninsula and the horizon, always north side is marked by Portsdown Hill.

Our skipper - Colm - was also incredibly professional, friendly and experienced. A really great and excellent experience overall! We will definitely book again.

Our skipper and first mate were fantastic. We were on the spectator boat and we had the right amount of learning without it being too overwhelming as we all had little to no experience.

About Portsmouth

Why is Portsmouth a good sailing destination?

With its historic harbors, naval heritage, and unparalleled access to the Solent’s pristine waters, Portsmouth emerges as a sought-after destination for sailors across the globe. Here’s why Yachting.Rent considers Portsmouth a nautical gem and a supreme sailing destination.

Nestled on the southern coast of England, Portsmouth boasts a rich maritime history. The city stands as a living testament to the UK’s naval legacy, with its world-renowned Historic Dockyard home to legendary vessels such as HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. The juxtaposition of historic ships, modern naval craft, and the imposing Spinnaker Tower creates a breathtaking panorama for sailors departing or arriving at its harbors.

Yet, beyond its historical allure, Portsmouth is a gateway to the Solent, one of the world’s premier sailing waters. The Solent’s diverse tidal conditions, steady winds, and the shelter provided by the Isle of Wight make it a thrilling playground for both novice sailors and seasoned mariners. The waters challenge and charm, offering myriad routes and anchorage spots that promise diverse experiences, from serene sunsets to exciting regattas.

Festivals and events further amplify Portsmouth’s sailing allure. From the annual Cowes Week to local yacht races, the city remains abuzz with nautical activities, drawing enthusiasts from all corners. The marinas, equipped with top-notch facilities, serve as ideal bases for yachts of all sizes, ensuring sailors have everything they need at their fingertips.

Furthermore, the Yachting.Rent experience in Portsmouth is enhanced by the city’s vibrant culture and cuisine. Post-sailing, the streets come alive with seafood bistros, traditional pubs, and contemporary eateries, offering a taste of Portsmouth’s culinary diversity. The bustling market squares, maritime museums, and seaside promenades add layers to your sailing vacation, making it a holistic experience of leisure and discovery.

In essence, Portsmouth, with its unique blend of history, nautical prowess, and vibrant culture, stands out as an impeccable sailing destination. At Yachting.Rent, we invite you to anchor your dreams here and set sail on a journey that resonates with the city’s timeless maritime spirit.

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Portsmouth

Embarking on a sailing adventure in Portsmouth’s pristine waters with Yachting.Rent involves a pivotal decision: selecting between the traditional sailing boat or the modern catamaran. Each vessel offers a unique experience, and understanding their attributes can help you make an informed choice for an unforgettable voyage.

A sailing boat, often referred to as a monohull, is the quintessential emblem of classic sailing. It promises an authentic feel of the sea, where sailors can experience the rhythmic dance with the waves and the thrill of heeling. Monohulls are often seen cutting through the Solent, their sleek design allowing for nimbleness and agility. They offer a closer connection to the water, making them ideal for those who seek the age-old romance of the seas. When you charter a sailing boat with Yachting.Rent, you’re choosing tradition, performance, and a deep-seated bond with the marine environment.

On the other hand, catamarans, with their twin hulls, are a symbol of stability and space. They offer a broader deck area, making them perfect for larger groups or families seeking comfort. The dual-hull structure ensures minimal heeling, providing a more stable platform, especially beneficial for those new to sailing or those who prefer a steadier journey. Catamarans are also known for shallow drafts, allowing sailors to explore hidden coves and anchor closer to the shore. Chartering a catamaran with Yachting.Rent means opting for comfort, space, and a panoramic view of Portsmouth’s scenic coastline.

Beyond the basic differences, your choice might also hinge on the trip’s purpose. If it’s a spirited sailing adventure, navigating the diverse tidal conditions of the Solent, a sailing boat might be your vessel of choice. Conversely, for relaxed cruising, sunbathing on spacious decks, or hosting a seaside party with panoramic views, a catamaran stands out.

Ultimately, whether you lean towards the traditional charm of a sailing boat or the modern comforts of a catamaran, Yachting.Rent ensures a top-tier vessel, primed for your Portsmouth adventure. Let the winds of the Solent guide your choice, and set sail on a journey tailored to your maritime dreams.

8 Fascinating Facts About ‘Kokomo,’ the Lightning-Fast 192-Foot Sailing Superyacht

Sailing Superyacht Kokomo

The 192-foot Kokomo was the second largest sloop in the world when it launched from New Zealand’s Alloy Yachts shipyard in 2010. It remains the largest fast-cruising sloop available for charter. The yacht’s commissioning owner Lang Walker (who died in January 2024) was a seasoned sailor who gave all three of his yachts the same name.

The first was a 131-foot sloop, which Walker replaced five years later with a 171-footer. The same day he took delivery of his 171-foot sloop, he placed an order for the third and final 192-foot Kokomo, which he planned to use for racing and cruising around the world. He also kept the same design team for all three yachts, with exterior and naval architecture by Ed Dubois and interior by UK’s RWD.

The reference to the yacht’s name has had different explanations over the years, ranging from the pseudonym of a composer whose music Walker played as a child to a nod to the Beach Boys’s song from their 1988 album Still Cruisin’ , which references a fictional utopian island called Kokomo. The island fantasy was brought to life in 2011 when Walker acquired a private island in Fiji’s Great Astrolabe Reef and named it Kokomo .

Here are eight unknown facts about one of the most game-changing sailing yachts on the water.

You’re Going to Need a Bigger Boom

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

When Kokomo was launched, she was the second-largest sloop in the world and carried the largest set of sails made by Doyle Sails in New Zealand. The 23,971-square-foot asymmetric spinnaker is half the size of a professional football field, while the 9,688-square-foot mainsail needs a crane to lift it. Because of the gargantuan size of the sails, the designers entered a new era of spar and winch design, having to “reinvent” the deck equipment—winches, mast, boom, rigging and sails—to cope with the 31.6-ton load on the genoa sheet and 32-ton load on the main sheet clew. The 244-foot carbon mast is the largest ever made by Southern Spars.

A Hidden Lifting Keel

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

The yacht’s 130-ton lifting keel is one of its most impressive features, though it’s largely left to the imagination. The interior layout is carefully designed so that the keel structure remains hidden. Dubois Naval Architects positioned the keel box to come above the main deck, serving as a partial separation between the bridge and the main salon (see inset). Kokomo was only the second yacht to be fitted with a lifting a keel, the first being 246-foot M5 (ex-Mirabella V), the world’s largest single-masted sailing yacht. This innovative design shortens Kokomo’s 28.5-foot draft when the keel is fully extended, to just 15 feet for shallow waters.

Fast-Track Sailing

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

Kokomo was one of the first yachts to be fitted with a hydraulic batt-car system for furling the mainsail, which has cars at each batten end that slot in an outer track on the mast. This alleviates a once-common issue where the luff tape or bolt rope on large sailing yachts became chaffed by the compression of the battens, which often caused the in-boom furling mainsails to fail. “When sailing Kokomo , especially when racing, I am completely impressed with the speed and efficiency of the hydraulic system,” says Kokomo ’s captain, Jeremy ‘Bear’ Wynne, who notes the yacht’s recorded top speed is a very impressive 22 knots. “The jib furlers are some of the fastest I have seen. There is absolutely no shortage of hydraulic power, even with multiple winches running on a jibe—a rarity on a big sailing yacht.”

Now You See It, Now You Don’t

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

Kokomo might be big on technology, but never at the expense of design. The wheelhouse has fold-down computer screens that conceal the navigation equipment when not in use, converting to beautiful carbon counter tops. This design sleight of hand transforms a highly technical area into a tony lounge. It’s a theme that extends to the foredeck, where the yacht’s two tenders are concealed in dedicated lockers. There’s also a fully retractable tender crane that launches the tenders from either side of the boat but disappears out of sight when guests are using the Jacuzzi. “The designated deck lockers were an advanced feature at the time of her launch,” says Wynne, adding that another bonus is that diesel tanks are fully available. “The tenders can be fueled onboard before launching.”

It Takes Just A Few Good Sailors

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

Kokomo can accommodate up to 10 crew in total, but theoretically it only takes two to sail—a helm person and a sail trimmer. That sounds almost impossible given the size and complexity of yacht. But all sails are controlled by joystick on the flybridge. And when the boat is in full-on racing mode, there are control stations on both sides, providing visibility of the sails. Thanks to the hydraulics system, the mainsail can be hoisted and lowered on a wireless remote control. Of course, maneuvers like stowing the massive genoa can never be automated. That’s a job for a half-dozen good sailors.

Art On Board

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

The hallway that leads to the owner’s cabin is lined with a mosaic tapestry made from sea glass woven together with wire. Backlit to create an unusual effect, it’s just one of the eclectic works of art that decorates the interior. The main salon also has a stunning and colorful work of glass art as another example.

Interior Matters

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

Kokomo is not all tech features. The yacht’s modern interiors combine dark wood floors and calming cream furnishings start in the main salon and continue across the five guest cabins. Penned by British studio Redman Whiteley Dixon, the design carefully wraps around the lifting keel without sacrificing or impeding on any interior guest space. The yacht accommodates up to 10 guests in a master suite, VIP, one double cabin and two twins. There are other accommodations for up to 10 crew. On the foredeck, the Jacuzzi brings another element of outdoor entertainment, bolstered by a sunken cockpit.

World Traveler

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

The mandate issued by Walker was to create a yacht that was a “quantum leap forward” from his previous yachts, with superior sailing characteristics and guest comfort. The mast’s height is too tall to sail through the Panama or Suez Canals, which meant it would have to be designed to sail around Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope to reach the Caribbean and Mediterranean. The maiden voyage took the yacht from the New Zealand shipyard to Australia, New Caledonia, the Solomon Islands, and Fiji. It also spent time at Walker’s private island (pictured above), also named Kokomo. The vessel has since spent many years exploring the Caribbean and Med. It’s based in both regions during the respective cruising seasons, with charters available through Cecil Wright.

Screen Rant

10 below deck charter guests who will never return to the franchise.

While the charter guests who appear on Below Deck have a great time while filming the show, many aren't invited back for a number of reasons.

  • Some charter guests on Below Deck have caused unnecessary drama and won't likely return due to bad behavior.
  • Captain Glenn Shephard from Below Deck Sailing Yacht faced backlash from Barrie, who called him two-faced.
  • Former guest Dr. Francis Martinis will not return to Below Deck after he was arrested for faking prescriptions.

The Below Deck franchise has featured many charter guests since 2013, many of whom will never return . The Bravo series focuses on expensive charters with wealthy guests who have attitude problems and over-the-top demands. That includes Charter guest Alexis Bellino, who boarded Captain Lee Rosbach’s yacht with her boyfriend at the time, Andy Bohn. She was disrespectful and made everyone uncomfortable with her and Andy's PDA. She even insulted crew members after featuring on the show.

Like Alexis, Delores Flora from Below Deck season 8 was a terrible guest. Not only did she misbehave, but she also got drunk and s wam while intoxicated, which is not only not allowed, it frightened the crew members. Delores got kicked out of the yacht the next day. These guests created unnecessary drama on the boat and will likely never return like a few others from the franchise.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

8 barrie & tony, below deck sailing yacht.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow had a decent time in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 2 and 3. Despite that, they left with a bitter taste because of Captain Glenn Shephard. In 2021, Barrie participated in a podcast, Pita Party: The Podcast , where he claimed that Captain Glenn bothered him while using his phone .

Barrie said, “he (Captain Glenn) was a two-face b*stard,” adding that he just didn’t like his presence.

7 Frank Fay

Below deck mediterranean.

In Below Deck Mediterranean season 7, Charter guest Frank Fay had a thing for second stew Kyle Viljoen. He pursued him on the yacht, but unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last. Frank will likely never return to the series as long as Captain Sandy Yawn allows Kyle to work for her. Even if Kyle quits, Frank wouldn’t want to be in an environment that would remind him of his failed relationship.

6 Erica Rose

Erica Rose appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht two seasons in a row. Erica was highly offensive toward the crew member, as well as her husband, Charles Sanders, and to make things worse, she left the crew with a measly tip , leading fans to slam her on social media. Ultimately, Erica had to apologize for her bad attitude but never returned to give the crew the tip they deserved. Nobody on Below Deck Sailing Yacht would ever want to return.

5 Justin Guarini

Justin Guarini’s time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was not dramatic at all; however, he’ll probably never return to the series. Justin wouldn’t return because he wasn't the primary guest. He joined his friend, Kim, who wanted to enjoy a luxury yacht trip. It was more of a one-and-done deal. Secondly, nobody recognized him at all. Viewers later realized who he was and how he was the runner-up on American Idol season 1. Justin is a theatre artist and has made a name for himself. However, it was embarrassing that so many fans had no clue who he was .

Below Deck: 8 Charter Guests With The Worst Attitudes

4 johnny damon.

Johnny Damon’s time at Below Deck Med was full of explosive moments. Once, he sent the food back, citing that the experience wasn’t “five stars.” On another occasion, his wife, Michelle, created drama by yelling at the owner of another yacht . Overall, the experience was simply terrible on both sides. Crew members didn’t love Johnny and his wife, and the couple didn’t respect the crew members. It is unlikely that Captain Sandy would want to host the couple again as long as she’s in charge.

3 Krystal Murphy

Former charter guest Krystal Murphy boarded Captain Lee’s yacht with her friends. She immediately began showing red flags, drinking, and just being a menace. Krystal fought with her friend, Chelsea, creating unnecessary drama. She even passed out and punched a friend in the face. Former Chief Stew Kate Chastain disliked serving Krystal and called her a “spoiled brat;” she wanted to throw her off the yacht. Nowadays, Krystal has seemingly become a more private person. It doesn’t seem like Krystal would want to be on TV again.

2 Steve Bradley

Below Deck fans should remember Steve Bradley as he made many appearances on the show. In Below Deck season 3, he wanted a foam party and demanded the crew to figure it out and follow his commands, acting like a king. In Below Deck season 6, Steve made more outrageous requests. Apart from being a wild guest, Steve was entitled and acted inappropriately at times . No Below Deck captain would want to host him again as he didn't come off as very likable.

1 Dr. Francis Martinis

Below deck mediterranean & below deck sailing yacht.

Dr. Francis Martinis from Below Deck Med and Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a zero chance of returning. While the former charter guest didn’t have too many issues on the show, his personal life issues will stop him from appearing on Bravo again. According to TMZ , Dr. Francis and his wife, Jessica, were arrested for filling out fake prescriptions in December 2023 . The couple used the names of Below Deck stars and got caught red-handed. The Below Deck franchise would never want to welcome felons, especially when their mugshots are all over the internet.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

Sources: Pita Party: The Podcast , Krystal Murphy /Instagram

Below Deck is a popular reality TV franchise that focuses on a group of crew members as they work on luxurious yachts and cater to their client's needs. After the original series proved to be a success, Bravo developed a handful of spinoff shows including Below Deck Selling Yacht, Below Deck Adventure, Below Deck Down Under, and Below Deck Mediterranean.

Viral video shows multiple sharks steal catch, then attack fishing boat motor in Florida

Video shows multiple sharks trying to steal a red snapper off a fishing line during a charter trip off the coast of cocoa beach, florida..

sailing yacht hire portsmouth

A recent viral video of a shark feeding frenzy near Cocoa Beach shows a swarm of powerful sharks stealing a catch of red snapper from a charter fishing expedition. Jamie Glasner, owner of Fin and Fly Charters , says he's seen more and more sandbar sharks like the ones who ate a red snapper off the line this week off Florida's east coast. Glasner said the feeding frenzy wasn't typical for what he normally sees as a charter fishing captain.

Sharks galore: 10-foot great white shark pings again in Southwest Florida waters, this time off Sarasota

"What was different about this situation is when your fish gets eaten, it can be any depth down below the boat. This time it happened as we were reeling it out," Glasner said. "The shark jumps out and suddenly all the other sharks come out and started a frenzy on the surface. Some sharks were getting bit by other sharks," he added. "Anything that moves or makes vibration in the water they’ll attack it."

Here’s what we know about the Florida sharks video and why it went viral.

What did viral shark video from Cocoa Beach, Florida, show?

Two videos captured by a charter fishing captain show incorrigible sharks coming head to head with fishers in the Atlantic Ocean. One clip shows multiple sharks fighting over a red snapper on a line as it’s being reeled in as the frenzy devolves into the sharks nipping each other and biting the boat’s motor.

Another video captured by Jamie Glasner shows a blue fish on a rope attached to the boat as a shark hangs on and refuses to let go of the rope no matter what. In both instances, the stubborn sharks are dead set on getting a free meal.

Did a shark eat a boat motor in Florida?

Not exactly. According to a video taken by Jamie Glasner of Fin and Fly Charters, several sharks, attracted by a red snapper, came to swarm the catch. Because sharks are attracted to vibrations in the water, some of the animals went toward the boat's motor and bit it, he said.

What is a sandbar shark?

Sandbar sharks are a protected shark species and among the largest species found in coastal waters, according to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fisheries, the agency tasked with regulating offshore fishing. Sandbar sharks can grow between 100 and 200 pounds and grow up to 8 feet in length.

Their diet includes everything from fish, to octopus to other sharks, and they can be found all along the East Coast as well as the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean.

Why are shark populations booming in Florida?

Charter fishing captain Jamie Glasner said NOAA restrictions on fishing for the sharks instituted in 2008 have resulted in a huge population boom for the sharks. He regularly takes groups with Fin and Fly Charters miles and miles offshore to catch and release the large animals, which are protected under federal law.

Restrictions on fishing for the sharks have been in place since 2008.

"NOAA fisheries probably needs to do another assessment and look at the shark population," Glasner added.
