An eye-catching black hull and silver superstructure offers a hint at this superyacht's striking interior. Rich notes of red, black and ochre work in harmony with the luxury yacht's native Australian and Canadian artwork to create spectacular living and entertainment areas. Linking these decks, a hand-carved trio of totem poles stand guard over the glistening black fossil marble stairwell.

Guests can enjoy the full cinema experience at the touch of a button in the sky lounge as black-out blinds fall and a screen unfurls from its hiding place in an elegant chaise longue. An air conditioned gym is available for the restless, with both exercise machines and a selection of free weights. Also on the bridge deck, a circular al fresco dining area is shielded by sliding glass doors, allowing guests to absorb the views on all sides while remaining sheltered from the breeze.

SLIPSTREAM's vast sun deck was designed with every comfort in mind; giant sun pads sit both forward and aft, a glass windbreak fits around the jacuzzi, and an open-air shower and glass-topped bar complete the experience.

With sumptuous accommodation for 12 guests in seven cabins, spread across three decks, guests are spoilt for choice. The rich red and black master suite includes an office, his and her bathrooms, walk-in wardrobe, and a beautiful raised observation lounge that allows direct access to the foredeck. The VIP cabin on the bridge deck has some of the best views on board, with natural light spilling from a sliding glass door leading onto the private balcony. Four stylish double cabins are located on the lower deck, two of which can be converted into twin cabins upon request. The gym also converts to a seventh cabin with two pullman berths and en suite bathroom, if required.

SLIPSTREAM’s incredible award-winning interiors are the work of  Andrew Winch Designs who took inspiration from indigenous Canadian and Native American artists. For example, a trio of hand-crafted totem poles runs through the center of the black fossil marble staircase connecting SLIPSTREAM’s decks and setting the tone for the rest of the yacht. Red, black and ochre work in harmony with the impressive collection of artwork and hand-woven textiles. The generous main salon is a stunning combination of dark chocolate leather, soft cream and red with a comfortable lounge area with a beautiful backlit bar and formal dining for 12. The full beam skylounge is decorated in a stunning palette of black and cream. Here guests can enjoy a full cinema experience. At the press of a button black out blinds are lowered and an 8.2-foot cinema screen unfurls from its hiding place inside a chaise lounge. There is also a beautiful winter garden dining area that can be fully open for an alfresco occasion or enclosed by glass.

SLIPSTREAM’s seven staterooms are spectacular and sleep up to 12 guests in sumptuous luxury. The owner’s main deck stateroom is a real showstopper and exudes romance with its striking scarlet, black and cream color palette. There is a large private office, his-and-hers en-suite bathrooms and walk-in closet. A stunning raised observation lounge is perfect for private moments of reflection and relaxation and also provides access to the foredeck. Meanwhile, the bridge deck VIP is equally opulent affording incredible views with sliding glass doors opening out to a private balcony. A further four double staterooms can be found on the lower deck (two of them convertible to twins) and the gymnasium can also be converted into a seventh cabin with Pullman bunks and an en-suite shower room.

SLIPSTREAM boast the latest in onboard entertainment systems including a smoke machine, a bubble machine, and Karaoke equipment for fun-filled party nights. During the day, the generous sundeck is the place to be with a full bar, barbecue, large Jacuzzi, and space for alfresco dining, sunbathing, socializing and relaxing. Best of all, the entire area is protected from the wind by clear glass screens which make the sundeck comfortable both day and night. The well-stocked beach club includes SeaBobs, Sea-Doos, a raft or inflatables, fishing and snorkeling gear. Two tenders are perfect for exploring the incredible destinations SLIPSTREAM visits—which traditionally have been the Maldives and the exotic islands of the Indian Ocean in the winter, and the Mediterranean in the summer.

SLIPSTREAM cruises comfortably at 14.5 knots with a maximum speed of 16 knots. Her state-of-the-art stabilization system ensures a smooth voyage even in rough seas, while her Zero Speed stabilizers keep things comfortable at anchor. Winch Design completed the interior and exterior designs of the fantastic yacht, which boasts the height of luxury on the water.

The interior of the SLIPSTREAM yacht was designed by British design firm  Winch Design  with an Art-Deco and luxury style.

Red, black, and ochre seamlessly integrate with the native Australian and Canadian artwork on board.

This artwork includes three hand-carved totem poles that tower over the black fossil marble stairwell connected to the levels.

There are accommodations for 12 guests in 7 cabins with one master, 1 VIP, two doubles, and two twin rooms.

There are accommodations for 15 crew onboard. The master suite has an observation lounge, an office, and a walk-in wardrobe. The VIP suite offers one of the best views on board, which guests can enjoy. 

One of the SLIPSTREAM’s most outstanding features is the vast sundeck designed for comfort with giant sun pads both forward and aft and a glass windbreak around the jacuzzi.

There is also a BBQ area, dining, and seating areas. There is also an open-air shower and glass-topped bar. 

The bridge deck has an alfresco dining area shielded by glass doors that allow guests to absorb all the views.

The sky lounge offers a full cinema experience with a hidden screen. There is a gym onboard where guests can enjoy a workout with a wide range of equipment.

Entertainment onboard includes a karaoke machine and smoke and bubble machines. The garage is filled with toys, including a sailboat for exploring and a waterslide that descends from the sundeck.

She was built by CMN Yachts, a French shipyard based in Cherbourg Cedex, which delivered the award-winning yacht in 2009. Her striking exterior makes her a highly recognizable yacht on the water.

The yacht has a gross tonnage of 1093 GT. SLIPSTREAM is an impressive vessel that has won many awards since its launch. The running costs for the $50 million yacht are $3 – $5 million.

What are the key attributes that make a charter yacht successful? Is it flexibility? Accommodating crew who become an extension of the family? A gargantuan collection of mind-blowing water toys? “All of the above,” says Captain Phil Stevens, one of two rotational captains on board 197-foot Slipstream .

Built at French shipyard CMN in 2009, Slipstream has been a prolific charter yacht over the course of its nine years. There are few places its eye-catching black hull and silver superstructure won’t travel. From the British Virgin Islands to the Baltic, even South America, the yacht cruises where the charters dictate, says Captain Phil. His favored destinations are Croatia and Turkey, along with the Ionian part of Greece. “I would start off in Athens and finish in Venice, passing through the Ionian Islands, Montenegro, and Croatia along the way. It’s so easy, you can always find somewhere to hide. You can lose yourself there,” he enthuses. His passion is contagious, exemplified by his 17.5 years spent in the employ of Slipstream ’s Australian owner, not to mention his multiple clients who have clocked up 10 to 15 repeat charters.

Design Inspiration

Interior and exterior styled by Winch Design , Slipstream possesses many of the hallmarks of Winch’s renowned penmanship, from the carpet motifs that mimic the ceiling panels in most guest areas to the signature skylounge. Furnished in muted cream tones with large black leather armchairs, it doubles up as an indoor cinema; the screen majestically rising from a chaise longue with large panoramic windows blacked out for full effect. From movie nights to Xbox gaming to reviewing the crew’s drone footage of the day’s adventures, guests are treated to far more than a room abounding with comfy sofas and plush furnishings.

Artwork throughout the yacht (curated by Winch) reflects the owner’s international background, with a mix of Aboriginal and North American pieces. Three commissioned totem poles with gods, eagles, bears, and fish soar 15 feet up through the stairwell to the deck above. Carved by Canadian artist Stanley Clifford Hunt from three single pieces of solid cedar, they set the central tone of the yacht, figuratively and literally.

Family Time

At the forefront of Slipstream ’s offering is its positioning as a prized family charter vessel. The yacht’s impressive chest of water toys includes Sea-Doos, standup paddleboards, kayaks, and the highly popular 49-foot-tall waterslide that descends from the sundeck. Along with inflatable platforms, it forms the centerpiece to the enthusiastic crew’s assault course, which they often set up for the more active charter guests. And as a ratified training school, guests can also obtain their jet-ski license during their stay. Whether spending all day tearing across the water at 80 mph, learning to sail the Laser dinghy with Ben (deckhand), or taking wakeboard instruction from Liam (chief officer), it’s not surprising that most guests spend a high proportion of their time in and around the water.

Both Captain Phil and his rotational colleague Captain Steve Osborne are fathers, which means small yet important details, such as mesh screens and safety gates on the top of the stairwells, come as standard. When teamed with a crew of 18 who tend to develop a charismatic rapport with children of all ages, it’s easy to see how family charter guests keep coming back for more.

Relaxation at the Core

Whether advanced or a beginner, taking yoga or Zumba classes on the aft main deck with Tiffany (chief stewardess) or an insanity fitness session with Nick (second officer) is the perfect post-breakfast workout, not least because chef Richard “Tricky” Harrison is somewhat unrivaled in the galley. His protein balls made from dates, lime, coconut, fig, cashew, and pistachios are matched only by the array of freshly baked bread (including gluten-free) and vast menu of homemade smoothies and juices on offer. Family buffets on the bridge deck aft are a popular event, as are themed party nights on the large sundeck, which can be fitted with a glittering disco ball. And Tricky’s cooking lessons often result in  kids’ fairy cake competitions.

Ample opportunities for both indoor and alfresco meals abound, from formal dining in the main saloon, eating in the round on the skylounge’s double lazy Susan table, to the generous sundeck. Plans for a fully retractable sunroof will be realized this winter, along with rain-activated sensors, mood lighting, and side window screens. “It means that sunny meal times and outdoor starlit cinema screenings can continue whatever the weather,” says Captain Phil.

Perhaps the most breathtaking dining option of all, however, takes place on the 6.5-foot swim platform, equipped with a misting system for when it’s exceptionally hot. “It’s a great base, and certainly isn’t restricted to just water sports,” says Captain Phil. “We hang lanterns and fairy lights for extra ambience, and dinner is served for up to six people on the water’s edge.” Once the entire hull has been polished this winter, Slipstream will look pretty fabulous from afar as well.

Room with a View

With sumptuous accommodation for 12 guests in seven cabins spread across three decks, guests are spoilt for choice. This includes two Pullmans unconventionally located in the gym—a popular choice with children—as well as room enough for a nanny when required. The VIP cabin with its private balcony separated from crew-accessible areas by a frosted glass screen provides some of the best views on board, while the master suite, with its high ceilings, private study, and frosted-glass en-suite leads directly to the observation lounge. “This area leads out to the foredeck and is the owner’s wife’s favorite room,” says Captain Phil.

The master suite is also a preferred location to take a massage, either undertaken by Slipstream ’s trained masseuse Tammy or by a shore-based professional. When it comes to capturing the most spectacular horizons, the jury is out on where best to position yourself. According to Captain Phil, it’s on the bridge at 5 am to watch the sunrise. For late starters, however, the sunken sundeck Jacuzzi at 6 pm with a cocktail in hand is pretty hard to beat.

Charter Yacht of the Week: On board the 60m family-friendly Slipstream

A focus on fun and a family-friendly layout define 60 metre Slipstream . To put her extensive cocktail menu and karaoke machine to the test, Katia Damborsky catches up with her in London.

Alongside two cinema screens and facilities for karaoke (complete with smoke and bubbles), Slipstream has a bursting toy chest and a stand-out sundeck. Perhaps this is why multi-award-winning Slipstream is one of the most popular, if not the most popular yacht in this size class in the Burgess charter fleet, according to Burgess broker Henry Craven-Smith. 

Delivered by French yard CMN in 2009, Slipstream is one of just nine superyachts built by the Normandy-based shipbuilder, which specialises in commercial vessels. However, Slipstream is a pedigree superyacht through and through. Interior and exterior design comes from Britsh studio Andrew Winch and she has a distinctive style that couldn’t be confused with anything else in the fleet.

Winch Design has given the yacht a simple, yet sophisticated interior with a black and white colour palette that's warmed up by touches of scarlet and enlivened with original Pacific Northwest and Aboriginal artworks, referencing the owner’s birthplace of Canada and adopted home of Australia. The yacht has a thorough maintenance routine, with all of her original furnishings, except the deckhead panels and carpeting, the same as the day she hit the water.

Twelve guests can be accommodated across six cabins, with additional berths available for supernumeraries and crew.

Slipstream spends most of her time hosting charters. She carries a crew of 15, with captain Steve Osborne at the helm in the wheelhouse and chef Richard Harrison heading up the galley – they've been with Slipstream for eight and nine years respectively. “Yachts like this which are very successful charter yachts have a very different mentality on the crew side,” says Craven-Smith. “A really charter-friendly crew are adaptable and malleable.”

She typically spends her summers in the Mediterranean and winters in the Caribbean, although she has previously chartered along the coasts of Norway and the turquoise seas of the Maldives. 

For anyone looking for space in spades, Slipstream delivers. She has a GT of 1,076 and a beam of 11.2 metres. For comparison, there are charter yachts that are 10 metres longer with a GT of 1,095 and a beam of 11.5 metres.

That space is condensed into a “smart layout”, according to Craven-Smith, with a full-beam owner’s suite on the main deck adjoined by a generous office, walk-in wardrobe and an upper-level private viewing saloon that overlooks the foredeck. Elsewhere, the VIP cabin has its own exterior balcony and a gym suite offers additional berths (alongside a Peloton and various other fitness machines, naturally).

Crowning the yacht is a massive sundeck that Captain Osborne says is the favoured spot on board. "On any charter yacht, the sundeck is the most important thing to get right," notes Osbourne proudly.

You could veritably imagine whiling away the entire day here – soaking in the Jacuzzi, playing cards at the bar, watching movies on a projector screen – without the need to venture anywhere else onboard. "There's a lot of space to spread out, and it's very shaded as well," adds Osborne, pointing to an awning with flattening slats. "A lot of people don't like too much sun." As well as a grill, dayhead and a shower, the space also benefits from a waterslide that plunges straight down into the water.

In the sea, guests can make use of Jetskis, Seabobs, water-skis and inflatable towables. There is also an inflatable water park and Laser sailing dinghies, demonstrating Slipstream’s commitment to child-friendly fun.

The yacht has something of a reputation as a family yacht. Osbourne and his crew know a thing or two about catering to families; whether it’s jam-packed itineraries on the water or a fun and interactive way of teaching guests how to safely use the water toys.

But for more grown-up fun, there are number of cocktail menus dotted about the yacht, promising spicy margaritas, passionfruit mojitos and a cocktail of the day: a moscow mule.

After a long day on the water, the yacht has a warm and welcoming interior for guests to retreat to. The saloon on the deck has a bar, lounge area and separate dining area where up to eight guests can enjoy meals in a more formal setting. 

Meanwhile, the skylounge (which is the same size as the saloon) is finished with plush cream carpets, sleek black leather armchairs and a glossy ebony games table. The space is home to a perfectly-concealed cinema screen, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an indoor-outdoor dining arrangement that can be closed off or opened according to the weather.

Connecting the two lounges is a foyer, which is a glossy mix of mirror and marble with a trio of colourful totem poles taking pride of place. Hand carved by the British Colombian artist Stanley Clifford Hunt, the sculptures carry personal symbolism for the owner and make an impressive entrance for guests arriving via the starboard side door.

Wherever there are great cocktail recipes, there are equally fabulous mocktail recipes for those of us who enjoy all the style and taste of cocktails without liquor. In this post, we reveal the best recipe for the Virgin Moscow Mule on the internet! Let's get started!

Introduction

A cocktail is essentially a blend of two or more ingredients of which at least one is alcoholic. As of late, cocktails are getting more inventive with upwards of four and five ingredients.

The Moscow Mule keeps it classically simple with only three ingredients that most of us already have at home. Vodka, ginger beer, and lime juice.

The intense burn of the ginger beer blended with the refreshing sourness of lime juice delights the palate and warms you right up from the first sip.

There are a multitude of practical reasons for choosing a mocktail over a cocktail.

This could include health concerns and diet practices. Or, maybe you're the designated driver and don't want to miss out on a fun night with your social group.

Whatever the reason, mocktails make sure no one is left out.

Most will say that a mocktail is simply a recipe for any cocktail sans the alcoholic ingredient(s), but we're going to show you fantastic ways to enjoy a Virgin Moscow Mule without sacrificing flavor or taste.

Ingredients:

• Sparkling Water 
• Fresh limes 
• Ginger beer 
• Simple syrup

Instructions:

• You can either muddle a couple of fresh limes or use freshly squeezed lime juice. We won't tell if you decide to do both ;)
• Next, combine your favorite sparkling water and a splash of ginger beer
• Add a serving of simple syrup (1 part water, 1 part sugar)
• Stir. If you have a shaker on hand, you can also shake the combined ingredients together, but be cautious when pouring as the turbulence may have created a little extra fizz from the sparkling water.
• Pour over ice

With this excellent non-alcoholic version of the Moscow Mule, you can have guilt-free seconds or even thirds!

Health Benefits

Typically, in every 6 oz serving of the traditional Moscow Mule cocktail there are approximately 180 to 200 calories.

One fantastic upside of making a Moscow Mule mocktail is that with the extraction of vodka (say 1.5 oz) you can eliminate around 96 calories, meaning that a typical 6 oz serving is approximately 100 calories or less!

Layers of Flavors

Now that we've laid the foundations, it's time to explore the variations and wonderful layers we can add to perfect our Virgin Moscow Mule.  With these alterations, your mocktails are sure to be enjoyed by all!

In addition to following the preparation of the basic recipe noted above, we suggest adding a few slices of fresh ginger to the mix.

To fully extract the flavors of the ginger, consider muddling it with your limes. Be careful to strain afterward, unless you want to be sucking up bits of ginger through your straw and set your mouth ablaze!

Coupled with the ginger beer, this is sure to amplify the smoldering tones of the original cocktail's taste.

Be sure to use ginger beer and not ginger ale. Most commercially sold ginger beer, though fermented, is alcohol-free. It differs from ginger ale in the way it is manufactured. The intensity of ginger essence in ginger ale isn’t comparable to that of the essence in ginger beer.

So, if you decide to replace ginger beer with ginger ale, you’ll be disappointed at the silenced flavors of ginger in your drink. Essentially, what you’d be drinking wouldn’t be a Moscow Mule at all.

Take it from us, use ginger beer!

If you would rather direct your variations or additions towards the sweet and fruity citrus flavors of your Virgin Mule, you can switch out the simple syrup for a fruit-flavored syrup.

Use a lime-flavored syrup if you would like to stay true to the original characteristics of the classic Moscow Mule.

If you're looking to put a spin on your virgin mule, don't be afraid to try any berry-flavored syrup for an extra layer of fruity goodness.

Sugar-Free Options

Not everyone is a fan of sugar and all things sweet. With this modification, the recipe can accommodate those of us who are patrolling our sugar intake due to dieting and/or health concerns.

More specifically, if you're counting calories or looking to steer clear of sugar all together, you can modify the Virgin Mule recipe by using sugar-free syrup. 

With 8 grams of sugar in one tablespoon of conventional syrup, the sugar-free option is a great way to go. A couple of dollops of the sugar-free syrup is a guilt-free way to enjoy the sweetness of this mocktail without the guilt.

Depending on your location and accessibility, you may or may not find brands of sugar-free syrup.  All the merrier if you can!

If you can’t find sugar-free syrup, another option is to use flavored sparkling water to add some additional flavour to your mocktail.  Some brands of flavored sparkling water are sold in tasty flavors with no sugar, no sweeteners, and no calories. Furthermore, the carbonation in sparkling water will augment the invigorating fizz of the ginger beer.  Win-win-win!

Serving Time

Just because we've decided to forego the alcohol component doesn't mean we're also forsaking presentation. We 're all about balance in life as well as in mocktails. So, if one component of the drink has been removed, another must be added!

And what better place to embellish then in the presentation?

It's no secret that the Moscow Mule is served in a copper mug . There are a variety of reasons why, and one of them is that copper is trusted to maintain a cooler temperature. In addition, the copper adds a "zing" to the flavor of the cocktail with each sip.

Whatever the reason, we can't deny that a Moscow Mule served in a copper mug just looks and feels right. The same is to be said for a Virgin Mule.

Besides, if we’re talking about looks, no one has to know you’re drinking a mocktail if you don’t want them to. The copper mug will keep your secret!

In lieu of serving your Virgin Mule in a copper mug, you can serve it in any bar glass. With so many types and shapes of cocktail glasses, there really is no reason why you couldn't enjoy your mocktail in a highball, an old fashion glass, or even a martini glass.

Whatever you have on hand should work just fine!

Garnish Like a Pro

Add a lime wedge to the rim and voila!

Want to take things up a notch? Drag the lime wedge along the rim of your glass, allowing the citrus to coat the edge. Turn your glass upside down into a plate of salt or sugar.

Extra points for presentation and added flavor with every sip!

For herb garnishes, clap your choice of herbs between your hands to bruise it lightly and release its essential oils and aroma.  Mint works great!

And here's an extra tip. If you have them, sprinkle a few pomegranate seeds on the surface of your drink! However, be careful if drinking with a straw as those little seeds will get sucked right up! It’s also a beautiful addition to your Virgin Mule, as you can see in the photo below.
