The Complete Calendar of Big Boat Shows Around the World

Mark your calendars for these yacht shows taking place throughout the year..

Monaco boat show

For yacht lovers, boat shows offer the same experience as any milestone event—they’re memorable, fun, and potentially life-changing. Just ask the tens of thousands of owners around the world who buy new vessels every year at the top shows. Starting with the Cannes Yachting Festival in September and ending with the Newport Yacht Charter Show in June, the show “season” moves around the world, displaying the newest motor yachts at Cannes in September and the world’s largest superyachts at Monaco at the end of the month. From there, the show season moves on to Fort Lauderdale in October, moving month by month around the globe to the world’s major yachting capitals.

Opening days of every boat show share one common feature: The excitement is electric. Not only have the shipyards spent months, and even years, readying new yachts for their public debuts, but the visitors are also excited to finally be stepping aboard yachts they’ve read about and aspire to own. Yachts remain the ultimate discretionary purchase—the one item owners don’t need but often cannot do without. That’s partly because they have become modern, luxury apartments on the water, rivaling any new high-rise condo.

But the main reason people love boats so much is the freedom they offer. No other shoreside home can match a yacht’s portability. Owners can enjoy the world’s richest view of the Monte Carlo skyline, steps away from the city’s shops and restaurants, and then snorkel in an empty cove on a remote Greek island a week later. Take that scenario, transplant it to wherever water exists, and imagine the possibilities. You can see why the boat show has become such a must-attend event for yacht lovers. Here are 16 of the world’s best shows.

It might be the dead of winter, but this is a great time of year to get away to another cold clime and start planning your warm-weather activities.

Boot Düsseldorf

Scheduled for January 19 to 27, 2019, Boot Düsselforf will be celebrating 50 years in 2019, and tickets will go on sale in September. Sixteen exhibition halls spread out over 2,368,060 square feet make up the boat show, which offers up 18 themed areas celebrating all things water. These include the Sailing Center, Motorboats, Superyachts, Travel, the Dive Center, Beach World, the World of Paddling, the Refit Center, and the Sportfishing Center, among others. Watch for superyachts from Azimut, Ferretti, Princess, Fairline, and Sunseeker in the motor-yacht category.

If you prefer sailing, you can check out models from Amel, Bénéteaum, CNB, Nautor’s Swan, Solaris, and more. In addition to the large yachts, tenders for those yachts are on display, as well. If you get tired of touring the yacht halls, head to The Wave for some surfing or the Dive Center for diving. In 2018, 1,923 exhibitors from 68 different countries participated, and 247,000 visitors attended from 102 countries. Organizers are expecting more for the 50th anniversary.  —Danielle Cutler

If you’re envisioning a romantic Valentine’s-weekend holiday, nothing could be more magical than Miami during the two boat shows held over Valentine’s Day each year. If you already have plans, consider heading to the United Arab Emirates at the end of the month for a winter warmup at the Dubai show.

Miami International Boat Show

One of two Miami shows held on the same dates, the Miami International Boat Show (MIBS), held February 14 through 19, 2019, used to be a small-boat show in the Miami Beach Convention Center. The largest boat was less than 50 feet in length. Two years ago, MIBS moved to the Miami Marine Stadium on Key Biscayne, and it transformed almost overnight into a world-class, on-water show. More than 1,300 boats are on display from 170 builders from the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

The organizers also moved its sailboat show to Virginia Key last year, adding a new component as well as offering hands-on instruction and displays from hundreds of equipment and electronics manufacturers. The show is just minutes from the village of Coconut Grove—with its charming cafés, parks, and shops—and downtown Miami, with the art galleries and restaurants in the hip section of Brickell. Between MIBS’ new location and the Miami Yacht Show on South Beach, Miami is definitely the place to be for yachties in February.  —Geri Ward

Miami Yacht Show

Formerly Yachts Miami Beach and then the Miami Yacht Show on Collins Avenue, the Miami Yacht Show  is scheduled for February 14 to 18 in 2019 at its new location in Biscayne Bay between the Venetian and MacArthur causeways, which is just north of downtown Miami. The new venue is closer to superyacht -lovers’ Superyacht Miami at Island Gardens Deep Harbour marina on Watson Island, which hosts the show’s large yachts—up to 500 feet.

Show organizers expect more than 500 boats and yachts, additional parking and on-land exhibit space, and a new AquaZone, where guests will find demos from Flyboard, SeaBob, Rover Boat Board, underwater drones, and more. Be sure to check out the luxury automobiles, private jets, and art on display, as well.

Guests who prefer traveling as a VIP have the option of buying the VIP Experience package ($150), which includes show entry, access to the VIP lounge, and transportation to Superyacht Miami. Don’t underestimate the VIP lounge—this is where you go to get out of the sun, take advantage of the open bar and hors d’oeuvres, and take in the happy-hour events.

Watch for yachts from Amels, Benetti, Heesen, Oceanco, Christensen, Westport, Feadship, and many more.  —D.C.

Dubai International Boat Show

Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS), scheduled for February 26 to March 2, 2019, is a true crossroads of the yachting world, bringing together 26,000 visitors from 76 countries. The show has all the major U.S. and European yacht brands, not to mention local yards like Gulf Craft, which has found an international following for its Majesty superyachts. DIBS’ organizers relocated the show last year to Dubai Creek, a more intimate and elegant setting for the exhibitors and visitors.

Beyond the yachts displayed at the marina and along Superyacht Avenue, the show also has a Super Car Promenade, Luxury Boulevard (with luxury goods and decor), and Dive ME Expo to promote the region’s exceptional reefs. Dubai, of course, is known for its international lifestyle, and that shows up in restaurants like the Armani Hotel as well as the cafés on the Dubai Marina. The Emirate also has world-class shopping centers like the Dubai Mall, with its top-brand stores and glassed-in indoor ski slopes with real snow, or Saga World Dubai, which displays exceptional masterpieces of jewelry, watches, carpeting, and artwork. The Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, features a 124th-floor observation deck that gives exceptional views of the fast-growing city.  —G.W.

Need to change up your usual spring-break ski trip? Balmy Palm Beach is beautiful this time of year.

Palm Beach International Boat Show

Palm Beach International Boat Show , held March 28 to 31, 2019, was once an afterthought to the Fort Lauderdale and Miami shows; however, it has been steadily growing over the last few years, adding extra dock space, more yacht brands, and ever-larger yachts. It now has $1.2 billion worth of boats on display. It’s also in the admirable position of offering the same levels of quality and excellent weather as the other major shows, but without the big crowds. This year, Palm Beach introduced a VIP Experience that includes a dockside indoor club with open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and other luxuries that make it an oasis in the heart of the show.

The event also features a cool AquaZone, which has demos of jetpacks, electric surfboards, paddleboarding, and many new water toys. For a break from the show, the shopping on Worth Avenue is similar to Rodeo Drive or Fifth Avenue, but without the urban background. The exhibits at the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum or shows at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts are also cultural distractions in one of America’s wealthiest zip codes.  —G.W.

MYBA Charter Show  Photo: Paul McDermott

Does one really need a reason to visit Barcelona? The architecture, the weather, the museums, shopping, the beach, boating, sangria… And then there’s Greece.

MYBA Charter Show

Head to Barcelona for the MYBA Charter Show on April 30 to May 3, 2019, at OneOcean Port Vell. Tailored to professionals in the charter-yacht industry, the 2018 event featured 53 yachts, 96 exhibitors, and 1,885 attendees. Events include the annual chefs’ competition, pitting yacht chef and crew against yacht chef and crew to determine which team has the best Meet and Greet process, “tablescaping” display, and, of course, food. The 2018 challenge was for each participating chef to prepare five different finger foods to be eaten without cutlery, breaking down to three savory and two sweet items. Legendary yachts such as Oceanco’s 269-foot Alfa Nero and the 254-foot explorer yacht Legend from Icon Yachts participated in 2018, along with their representatives Burgess and Camper & Nicholsons, respectively.  —D.C.

Presented each year for yachting professionals by the Greek Yachting Association in Nafplion, Greece, the  Mediterranean Yacht Show  also showcases charter yachts, parties aboard those yachts (allowing guests to get to know each other and the crew), and a chefs’ competition. The fifth edition of MEDYS proved to be the best yet, with 107 charter yachts and more than 400 yachting professionals from all corners of the globe, making it the largest event of its kind in the Eastern Mediterranean. The GYA expects an even larger number of yachts for 2019, currently estimated to be 120. The 2019 show is scheduled for May 4 to 8, a day longer than the 2018 event. —D.C.

Newport boat show

Take a break from the Hamptons and head to Newport, Rhode Island, to catch a glimpse of the large yachts in town for the charter show.

Newport Charter Yacht Show

One of two summer yacht shows, set in America’s sailing capital, is unique because only charter yachts take part. The Newport Yacht Charter Show , which will be held June 17 to 20 in 2019, is a professionals-only event designed to show the high standards of the charter sector to owners and brokers, with four days of open houses on the yachts. During the last show, the 24 charter yachts ranged from the 198-foot Blue Moon to the 54-foot sailing-catamaran Tohora , with most of the fleet measuring over 100 feet.

The chefs demonstrate their cooking prowess with specially prepared luncheons for brokers, while captains show each yacht’s unique features (water toys, luxury saloons, or beach clubs). The crew and owners even participate in costumed events which, in 2018, included Super Heroes and Under the Big Top. There are best-dessert contests among the chefs as well as “tablescaping” and specialty cocktail competitions. Newport, with its 19th-century mansions on the Cliff Walk and boutiques on Thames Street, makes the perfect New England backdrop for the show. —G.W.

If you’re ready for a cool-down from your blazing-hot summer, Australia’s winter weather—with highs in the 50s—might be a welcome reprieve.

Sydney International Boat Show

Sydney’s International Convention Centre and adjacent Cockle Bay Marina in Darling Harbour played host to the 51st edition of the Sydney International Boat Show from August 2 through 6, 2018. The event features not only yachts of all sizes from respected builders around the world but also all sorts of accessories, demonstration pools, and master classes. Plus, the Australia International Dive Expo has joined in the fun. I would recommend catching your breath while swilling a glass of bubbly at the outdoor Champagne and oyster bar on the event deck. Dates have not yet been announced for 2019. —D.C.

September is a good time to book that Airbnb in the South of France for the whole month so you can hit up all the boat shows. In between Cannes and Monaco, don’t forget to head to Southampton and Genoa to catch the shows there.

Cannes Yachting Festival

Cannes might be better known for its film festival, but the Cannes Yachting Festival —September 11 to 16, 2018—attracts more visitors and is the official launch of the yachting season. Last year on its 40th anniversary, the show had 600 boats on display, including yachts over 150 feet as well as 108 world premieres. Like the film festival, the world’s boat builders understand it’s important to be seen at Cannes. The largest new launch in the 2018 show will be the Baglietto 48 Displacement, a 158-foot superyacht designed by Francesco Paszkowski, with other launches by Custom Line, Ferretti Yachts, Conrad, Nautor’s Swan, and more than 100 others. Because France is such a mecca of sailing, the show also has a large selection of sailboats and multihull yachts. More than 50,000 visitors, about half of which came from outside France, are expected to visit the show to see the new yachts of the season. There’s typically a lively, friendly feel on the crowded docks as the builders can finally reveal yachts that will establish the latest trends in design and performance. Located in the heart of the city, dozens of cafés, bars, and restaurants are within a five-minute walk of the event. The show’s Luxury Galley includes watches, jewelry, lamps, and other custom decor. —G.W.

TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show

Held September 14 to 23 this year, TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show is celebrating 50 years. Organizers expect more than 100 boat debuts and more than 500 exhibitors. Some will be highlighting environmental research. In addition to celebrating its 50 years in existence, the show will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first single-handed nonstop circumnavigation of the globe with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston’s Suhaili on display at the event. Sports stars and celebrities from the last 50 years will be welcomed, and those couples celebrating 50 years of marriage during the show will receive free entrance. Be sure to stop by the new Guinness Bar, which will be giving its own nod to the 1960s.

Besides the yachts and boats on display—and the various 50th-anniversary festivities—the Southampton Boat Show also features kayaks, paddleboards, sailing dinghies, and, this year, a menu at the Marine’s Grill developed by the Hairy Bikers (Si King and Dave Myers), with responsibly sourced seafood in line with the show’s efforts to support marine conservation. VIP-minded visitors will be pleased to discover the Platinum Experience, which includes a glass of Prosecco upon arrival; morning tea, coffee, and pastries; buffet lunch; afternoon tea and cake; entrance fees for the show; a private bar (drinks not included) in the Platinum Lounge; and more. The most exciting part is the hour-long tour aboard a motor yacht.  —D.C.

Salone Nautica

Genoa, Italy’s national boat show, held September 25 to 28, 2018, is one of Europe’s major fall yachting events. Salone Nautica offers 1,000 boats in a Mediterranean setting from Italian yacht builders like Sanlorenzo, Azimut, and Monte Carlo Yachts, as well as non-Italian brands like Nautor’s Swan, Bertram, Beneteau, and Hanse Yachts. Located on the Genoa waterfront, the show is divided into motor yachts, sailboats, powerboats, and outboard boats. The Genoa show distinguishes itself by an inimitable sense of Italian warmth. Organizers call it the “Sea Experience,” and that includes after-show boat tests on the Mediterranean, Big Game Tournament sportfishing displays, and events for divers, kayakers, and small-boat lovers.

Beyond the show, Genoa offers many side tours, including the charming cafés of Via Garibaldi, cathedrals like Basilica di Santa Maria di Castello, the Aquarium of Genoa, and the art museum of Chiostro dei Canonici di San Lorenzo. Walks through the Palazzi dei Rolli and Chiesa Di San Donato give some sense of Genoa’s long history and importance as a maritime center.  —G.W.

Monaco Yacht Show

Monaco Yacht Show

Every September since 1991, yachting enthusiasts, buyers, charterers, yacht builders, and brokers descend on the principality of Monaco for the annual Monaco Yacht Show . And I’m sure this year will be no different. Scheduled for September 26 through 29, 2018, show organizers are expecting 120 custom superyachts from builders, owners, and charter brokers around the globe to moor at the docks of Port Hercules. In addition, 40 of these yachts will be making their worldwide debut. The average length of participating yachts is 160 feet, but this year there will be seven superyachts between 230 and 328 feet in length. And four of them will be making their world debuts. In addition, watersports lovers can view and sometimes try out the 40 different tenders and toys on display. For those into automobiles, 10 different luxury models will be exhibited at the show’s Car Deck. And we mustn’t overlook the two helicopters scheduled to appear. Overall, 580 companies participate in the annual show.

For superyacht clientele, the Monaco Yacht Show offers a VIP visit pack, the Sapphire Experience, which provides exclusive services to new yacht buyers and current owners. Crème de la crème visitors may participate in two invite-only events held the evening of September 25: the Monaco Yacht Summit—mini lectures and discussions with a panel of yachting-industry experts to explore the practical questions of future yacht charterers or buyers—and the Inaugural Gala Event and 5th Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards, where 400 guests celebrate the most spectacular yachts at the show.

Last year’s Monaco Yacht Show saw 36,400 people roaming the tents, halls, and docks. And usually, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco takes a (highly secured) stroll through the event, as well. —D.C.

Sights are most likely set on South Florida for the Fort Lauderdale boat show, but don’t rule out a quick trip to beautiful Abu Dhabi for its fairly new event.

Abu Dhabi International Boat Show

Scheduled for October 17 to 20, 2018, the newcomer to the list will hold its inaugural event this year. Organized by the same company that puts on the Southampton show in the UK, the Abu Dhabi International Boat Show promises to be an impressive debut. The UAE capital has become a boatbuilding center in the Middle East and one of its most beautiful cruising grounds, with more than 300 miles of coastline and 200 islands. It has also hosted some world-class events, including Abu Dhabi Sailing Regatta, Commodore’s Cup, and a stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race. Islands like Yas, Saadiyat, and Sir Bani Yas have become big destinations, and some have world-class marinas. The show will feature yacht builders from 18 countries, including Sunseeker, Benetti, CRN, Mangusta, Princess, Ferretti Yachts, and Pershing.

Many local shipyards will also have their boats on display. Beyond yachts and powerboats, the show will feature Volvo Ocean 60 race boats (Abu Dhabi has been a big sponsor of the Volvo Ocean Race) and F1 Powerboats that accelerate to 100 mph in four seconds. The in-water section will be in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company’s marina, while the rest of the show will be in the adjoining ultramodern exhibit center.  —G.W.

Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show

Every fall at the very end of hurricane season, boats and yachts big and small arrive from all over the globe to take part in the  Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show , the biggest in-water boat show in the world, held this year on October 31 through November 4 in the Yachting Capital of the World. The 2018 edition marks 59 years of this show, which hosts more than 1,500 boats—along six miles of floating docks—1,200 exhibitors, and 110,000 visitors at seven locations around Fort Lauderdale.

Not only will visitors find all kinds of boats—from superyachts and sailing yachts to jet boats and runabouts—but also watersports gear, exotic cars, and everything else nautical. General admission is $33 for adults; $15 for kids ages six to 15; and free for children under six. Choose the Windward VIP Experience for $300 a person for one day. The package includes entrance to the show, access to the Windward VIP Club, and rides on the Water Taxi. But the Windward VIP Club is what makes it appealing—it’s located at the Swimming Hall of Fame, which is a pretty central location, and offers up air-conditioned lounge areas to hang out and cool off in, a dedicated concierge, and private indoor bathrooms (worth any amount of money). If that didn’t do it for you, it offers up a private dining area and a premium open bar.  —D.C.

Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting  Photo: Shutterstock/Pixachi

And that’s a wrap. End your year in the warm and wildly beautiful West Indies.

Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting

Another show catered to marine-industry professionals, the Antigua Charter Yacht Show is scheduled for December 4 through 10 at Nelson’s Dockyard Marina in English Harbour, the Falmouth Harbour Marina, and the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. New for 2018, all registered yachts remain at the docks for the full five viewing days, with the fifth day being a Sail Day, when charter-management companies can showcase their yacht with a cruise around Antigua’s waters and islands in a sort of charter sampler. Festivities include a chefs’ competition (this year’s mission is a New Year’s Eve dinner party), a stewardess competition (a New Year’s Eve decorative table setting), and nightly events. The Antigua Charter Yacht Meeting is a nonprofit and allocates funds to various schools, scholarships, police stations, flood victims, and more.  —D.C.

31 of the best new boats at Cannes Yachting Festival 2022

  • Top stories

Europe’s biggest on-water boat show returns next month (Sept 6-11), and we’ve picked out the cream of the crop at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival.

The 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival is almost upon us and once again it promises to be a bumper show, drawing in boat lovers from across the Continent and beyond.

In total, there are scheduled to be more than 400 motorboats on show, including 135 world premieres, more than anyone could hope to visit in the 5 days of the show (although Hugo and Alex are going to give it their best shot!).

So we’ve picked out a few dozen that are really worth your attention, ranging from a 32ft Italian dayboat that’s available with a marble deck to a 145ft Turkish superyacht .

absolute-56-fly-MBY277.newboat_2.Absolute_1

The slick new design integrates plunging windows with see-through gunwales for outstanding views out

Absolute 56 Fly

The new Absolute 56 Fly is exactly the kind of boat we tend to associate with this Italian builder. On the main deck, there are open railings, cutaway gunwales and transparent panels in the transom gates to maximise visibility.

Huge drop-down side windows also help open out the main deck saloon, while bringing plenty of fresh air into the lounge. The aft galley is well positioned to keep the modular cockpit and flybridge well serviced for food and drink.

And on the upper level, the hardtop features integrated solar panels to help reduce dependence on the diesel generator during a lengthy cruise away from shore power.

Aquila-54-exterior

Walkaround decks and stairs at both ends make the semi-enclosed upper deck a really versatile and user-friendly space

You may not have heard of Aquila powercats yet but they have been hugely successful in the US and are now on their way here courtesy of UK importer Approved Boats.

Built in China with design input from the US, the Aquila line-up includes three outboard -powered models – the Aquila 28, Aquila 32 and Aquila 36 – and three shaft-drive models – the Aquila 44, Aquila 54 and Aquila 70.

We caught up with the Aquila 54 Yacht at the Palm Beach Boat Show in March, fighting with weekend crowds to see why it has proved so successful – 75 orders since it was launched last year.

Astondoa 677 Coupe

Astondoa has never been unduly worried about frightening the horses with the styling of its new boats. When the 677 Coupe is unveiled in Cannes, it looks likely to cause a stampede…

With its bold window shapes, dramatic glazed bulwarks and confident axe-bow profile, the Astondoa 677 is more than attention-seeking, it’s almost shouty – every bit as aggressive as the Spanish shipyard’s 377, but twice the size.

But once the scary styling has grabbed your attention, and it will, you’ll discover a practical sportscruiser with a lot going for it, from its hard top with opening sunroof and spacious external seating fore and aft, to a stylish Cristiano Gatto interior design.

Side decks rise up and over the main deck master cabin

Azimut Grande 36M

The new Azimut Grande 36M is an object lesson in the fluid integration of onboard space.

In fact, like the rest of the Grande line, it aims not just to integrate the various zones on board the boat but to eradicate the barriers that traditionally divide them.

While there are rewarding design choices all over, one of the key concepts on the Azimut Grande 36M is the semi-walkaround upper deck.

bering-145-explorer-yacht

The Bering 145 was launched in Antalya on April 28 and named M/Y Heeus

Turkish shipyard Bering has established a reputation for building no-nonsense ocean crossing passagemakers, but its new Bering 145 flagship is its most ambitious project yet.

With a full displacement steel hull of just over 500 tonnes and an aluminium superstructure, the Bering 145 combines a fuel capacity of 95,600 litres with a parallel hybrid drive system for a range of 12,000nm at a cruising speed of 9 knots.

Under conventional diesel power the range is still a staggering 5,000nm at 8 knots; the maximum speed is 15 knots. The yacht’s hybrid system drives the propellers via electric motors that are powered by a bank of batteries that are recharged by variable speed generators.

Canados Oceanic 143

The latest flagship of Canados’s Oceanic range is this impressive explorer-style yacht.

The Canados Oceanic 143 features a short superstructure and a huge open aft deck, which is dedicated to fine dining and elegant lounging about, rather than the suite of tenders and water toys generally found aboard its intrepid cousins.

But it’s still a versatile platform with a broad appeal, its triple engines offering an impressive top speed, as well as efficient low-speed cruising for a range of 4,000 nautical miles at ten knots.

The stylish D36 is one of the most original multi-purpose day boats around

De Antonio D36 Open

The replacement for the D34, the new De Antonio D36 exhibits a lot of the traits we’ve come to enjoy from the Barcelona-based yard.

While the De Antonio D36 features a longer hull then the D34, with twin steps and a deeper vee, it retains De Antonio’s classic party piece in the form of its ‘hidden’ outboards .

Available with twin 300 to 450hp motors, it uses a boxed-in sunbed section above the engines to help extend the cockpit’s usable space and minimise engine noise.

Revised windowline and sleek new superstructure look very elegant

Fairline Phantom 65

While Fairline is planning to unveil a revised Squadron 68 at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival , the more noteworthy and radical world debut is likely to involve the new Phantom 65.

Heralded as Fairline’s first ever ‘sportsbridge’ yacht, it aims to take the external form of the award-winning Targa 65 and add a revised windowline and a low-slung fly deck to the mix for tri-deck flexibility alongside a beautifully streamlined sportscruiser aesthetic.

With long, blade-like hull windows and a deep-set flybridge that blends gently into the curved roof mouldings and radar arch as you move aft of the boat’s centreline, it’s clearly a success from a stylistic perspective.

The new Ferretti 860 is designed to combine luxury with a surprising turn of speed

Ferretti 860

The Ferretti 860 is a supremely luxurious tri-deck motor yacht with an internal arrangement that lends itself perfectly to crewed cruising for eight.

On the main deck, floor-to-ceiling windows and cutaway bulwarks create superb views from the saloon and dining area, which is separated from the semi-raised pilothouse by the fully-enclosed galley, which enables the crew to go about their business without interrupting the day spaces.

A spiral staircase to starboard leads down to the midships owner’s cabin , forward VIP and two further guest cabins, offering outstanding space and privacy. Two crew cabins occupy the forepeak, both with twin-bunk beds and ensuites.

fiart-p54-01_P54

The Fiart P54 name may not be terribly familiar – it’s an Italian acronym for ‘factories for the application of thermo-hardening resins’ – but a start date of 1960 makes Fiart a pretty early adopter of the new-fangled boatbuilding material. The company is based in Baia, near Naples.

Designed inside and out by Stephano Pastrovich, the new Fiart P54 is a true head-turner in a competitive sector, with dramatic styling, plenty of horsepower and a lively turn of speed.

Outdoor seating is arranged in a secure central area for use when under way, and a lower lounging area aft when at anchor.

Fjord-53XL-exterior_renders_5

With their bold styling, high performance and capable hulls, today’s German-built Fjords are every bit as appealing as their Scandinavian ancestors.

The new Fjord 53 XL is based on the hull of the company’s earlier 52 models, the extra length not only providing more space on deck (this model has the largest T-top and deck area that Fjord has ever designed) but also allowing the engines to be set further back, to create more volume below.

The amount of customisation on offer is mind boggling for a production boat. Naturally, hull, deck mouldings and fabric colours are up for grabs but there is also an enormous amount of play in the physical layout of the main deck as well as the arrangement of accommodation on the lower deck.

Grand Banks 85

As the largest boat Grand Banks has ever built, this new 87ft explorer has been designed with serious attention to how a proper long-distance cruiser tends to be used.

While the 22ft beam brings all kinds of flexibility in terms of internal layouts, hull number 1 has been specced with three enormous staterooms, plus self-contained crew quarters that provide useful overspill accommodation for guests.

Built on an elongated version of the Grand Banks V-Warp hull, which employs vacuum-infused E-Glass with carbon fibre reinforcements, preliminary testing has shown the new boat to be in its element at around 21 knots.

According to Grand Banks, that makes the hull not just safe and comfortable in rough seas but also extremely efficient for long-distance passages. Whether equipped with the standard Volvo Penta IPS 1350 engines or 1300hp MAN diesels, a range in excess of 2,000nm is well within reach.

And even at 25 knots, the new boat is expected to return class-leading fuel flow figures of just 216 lph.

Gulf Craft Majesty 120

Based in the UAE and celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Gulf Craft is a long-established builder of high-end motor yachts which has yet to make much of an impression in western markets.

The new Gulf Craft Majesty 120 might start to change all that, however, with its handsome profile, designed in-house along with the hull naval architecture, and a chic, ultra-modern interior courtesy of Cristiano Gatto.

The 120 is a substantial two-and-a-half-decker with two double VIPs and a pair of twin-berth ensuites on the lower deck, and a wide-body main deck design forward which allows for a generously proportioned owner’s cabin stretching across the yacht’s full beam.

invictus-GT320S-NAV-139---MOD

Invictus GT320S

An Italian yard that makes some delectable-looking boats, Invictus seems to pay as much attention to close-up finishes and design details as to their boats’ distinctive, characterful styling and competent, performance-oriented naval architecture.

This latest Invictus GT320S, also designed by the talented Christian Grande, promises to make as much of a splash as its predecessors, designed as it is around outboard power, with two 300s on the show boat – surely adequate for all but the most rabid speed freak – and the assurance that if you want even more, it can take a pair of 450s.

With the engines conveniently hanging off the back, the cockpit can come into its own, which on the Invictus GT320S is simple and spacious, with an L-shaped arrangement of bench seats and an expanse of level sole which Invictus naturally claims to be bigger than any of its rivals.

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 Fly

This new Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 Fly, the flagship of the range, packs a lot into its 40ft. In the enclosed saloon, the rotating helm seat stays involved in the party, courtesy of a large C-shaped seating section to port.

And that’s echoed up on the flybridge , where there’s also space for a sunbed ahead of the helm. The main deck saloon features an aft galley, which is entirely open to the cockpit, with a fold-out bar that neatly straddles the two spaces.

In the cockpit, a fold-down bulwark and a port side door ramp up the practicality of the Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 Fly even further.

nerea-yachts-ny40-MBY277.newboat_6.Nerea_1

The NY40 is the second boat to emerge from this ambitious young Italian builder

Nerea Yachts’ new NY40 certainly looks the part. Like the original Nerea NY24, the Nerea NY40 is designed to combine naval tradition and hi-tech innovation with automotive design cues.

It’s tough not to love the herringbone teak decks or the contrasting mix of polished steel, open-knit fabrics, natural leathers and soft-touch lacquers.

The layout looks good too. In the cockpit, the central sunbed, framed in steel and lined with woven yarn, is big enough for three, but it can be expanded, thanks to a pair of drop-down teak tables and a convertible settee.

Though relatively compact, the ‘entry-level’ Numarine is an authentic long-distance explorer

Numarine 22XP

Securing its spot at the entry point to Numarine’s fleet of long-distance explorer yachts, the new Numarine 22XP retains all the key features that make the larger boats so effective.

In spite of its relatively modest length, the Numarine 22XP comes with a choice of displacement and semi-displacement hulls , plus vast internal volume, a spacious flybridge and class-leading natural light, thanks to Numarine’s famously oversized geometric windows.

The new ‘baby’ Numarine also provides the space for a full-beam owner’s cabin with its own private staircase, plus three ensuite cabins for guests and a compact crew quarters aft.

Otam 58 GTS

Based by the sea in Sestri Ponente, near Genoa – and very handy for the airport – Otam makes big statements in small numbers.

The new GTS version of the shipyard’s popular Otam 58 joins the Open and Hard Top models and boasts a re-style by BG Design that features a wraparound windscreen and a fixed hard top, to keep the 55-knot breeze out and the sun off.

Huge quantities of horsepower and Arneson surface drives combine with high-tech construction in Aramat – a Kevlar-glass composite – and vinylester resin, to form a light, stiff, no-nonsense structure created with the sole purpose of going as fast as possible, while offering a reasonably comfortable ride, without coming apart.

pardo-gt52-MBY277.newboat_2.Pardo_30

This elegant party platform can be specced with a galley-up or galley-down layout

A key element of the new Pardo GT52 ‘crossover’ design is its ability to deliver a more sociable boating experience thanks to the natural continuity of its interior and exterior spaces.

It features a trio of aft windows that can be hinged upwards to integrate the internal saloon with the aft cockpit.

That cockpit is well used with a pair of aft-facing seats that connect with the alfresco dining table without obstructing the walkaround deck.

pershing-gtx116-MBY278.newyacht_1.PE14

Pershing GTX116

Although it would be easy to call the new Pershing GTX116 a sportfly, its category-confounding style and deck layout suggest a crossover label might be closer to the mark. In stark contrast to the smoothly raked sportscruisers we’re accustomed to seeing from Pershing , it uses a near vertical windscreen positioned a long way forward, with a snub-nosed bow like the flagship Pershing 140.

And the stern is quite different too, with a trio of terraces that cascade down to sea level, culminating in a pair of transom doors that swing up and out to create a Beach Club. This unusual cab-forward design frees up the space for a more even split between indoor and outdoor entertaining zones.

The main deck cockpit, for instance, is almost as long as the saloon, with room for an aft-facing sofa and chairs, plus a ten-person dining table and a cocktail bar with stools. The living spaces are also keenly impacted by the asymmetrical layout.

pershing-gtx116-MBY278.newyacht_1.PE2

With its aft lounge and midships dining area, the open-plan saloon might feel fairly conventional, but the whole structure is actually offset to starboard. That swallows up the space usually reserved for the side deck, radically boosting internal volume, but there’s still a profound sense of integration between the inside and outside spaces.

On the portside, for instance an optional fold-down terrace flows neatly into the internal saloon, thanks to a sliding side door. And two smaller side doors on either side of the bridge also give access to the bow cockpit, where a pair of sunbeds flank an optional spa pool.

In addition to space for five crew, the lower deck includes a full-beam owner’s cabin with twin ensuite shower rooms. There are also two doubles and two twins further forward but if you value an additional lounge area, the fourth cabin can also be specced as a lower dinette.

However, as you might expect of Pershing, none of this internal luxury comes at the expense of on-water performance. Even with the standard set-up of triple 1,800hp MANs on KaMeWa waterjets, you can expect the GTX116 to hit 32.5 knots. And these can be upgraded to 2,000hp for an extra three knots, a fast cruise of 29 knots and a 400nm range.

Prestige-M48-power-catamaran-first-look-exterior-side-view

Prestige M48

After more than two years in development, Prestige’s first motor cat is set for its debut at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, and given the ingenuity of its design, it should be well worth a look.

Rather than taking a traditional approach to the internal deck layouts, Prestige has attempted to leverage every inch of the M48’s multihull footprint by means of a full-beam lower deck that makes great use of the region between the hulls.

This is a technique we’ve seen before on boats like Fountaine Pajot’s MY5 and it’s an interesting solution. On the one hand, a low-slung bridge deck opens up plenty of fresh volume, freeing the cabins from the confines of the hulls. On the other, it could reduce efficiency by increasing weight and drag.

Riva-76-Bahamas-Super-side-view

Riva 76 Bahamas

Based on the Perseo 76 hull, this new Riva 76 Bahamas Super has a classic retro appeal combined in the cleverest of ways with some pretty cutting-edge thinking.

It was the Riva 88 Florida that first introduced to a breathless world Riva’s cool powered hard top, which shelters the helm and cockpit, but can then swing across to cover the foredeck seating in a single smooth movement. It gets another outing here.

That might be reason enough to put the new Riva 76 Bahamas Super on your shortlist, but there’s more. Two engine options are available, from 1,550s up to 1,800s, mounted under the cockpit and driving traditional straight prop shafts via V-drive transmissions, for a maximum speed of 37 knots. With the 1,550s the expectation is 32.

Sanlorenzo SP110

Moored stern to the quay at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival, the new Sanlorenzo SP110 is going to be the talk of the show.

The lower saloon, leading down from the cockpit, was clearly inspired by Sanlorenzo’s sub-brand Bluegame . But this takes that concept to the next level, literally, opening up the after end of the main deck to create an eye-catching two-storey atrium that shows anyone who might be looking in – i.e. everyone – that your boat is cooler than theirs.

It’s also faster, probably: the Sanlorenzo SP110 is a 40-knot boat, thanks to triple MAN V12s, jet drives, and a lightweight structure that features a lot of carbon fibre.

sealine-S390-first-look-exterior

The open sportscruiser design fits neatly into the slot between Sealine’s existing S335 and S430

Sealine S390

Bill Dixon’s latest design for Sealine is all about making the most of the summer. To that end, the new Sealine S390 features a huge shaded cockpit with two big wetbars, plus nearly 50ft² of foredeck lounging space, with flip-up backrests and a small bow bench, and an oversized swim platform with an optional waterfront barbecue.

A convertible dining table turns the aft cockpit into a neatly integrated sunpad. And the Sealine S390 also provides a pair of sunroofs built into the full-length hardtop as standard, as well as the option of manual or electric opening both fore and aft.

As part of Sealine’s ‘Sport’ line, it is of course designed to look and feel like a convertible on the water – and with its swept back windows and the ‘skeletal’ curve of its roofline, it certainly has the profile to carry that off.

sessa-F47_2022_001

The successful Sessa F47 flybridge cruiser wasn’t broke, so they haven’t tried to fix it. But its restyle does include the obligatory jagged slash of hull windows and a remarkable swoop of flybridge moulding that makes it unmistakably the latest model.

Design has been sharpened up throughout, with a few more right angles where there used to be curves, and the internal colour scheme is new, but the essentials of this accomplished and capable family boat remain unchanged.

So on the main deck we find a neat cockpit with a folding table, and a busy saloon area lit up by huge windows. This has stowage space and the galley along the port side, a sofa to starboard behind a helm station with a double bench seat.

silent-60-SY60-DRONE-253

The Silent 60 is available with an auxiliary kitesail system to boost efficiency

If you’re interested in electric boating then a catamaran might be the way to go, with slim, relatively-low drag hulls and expansive deck and roof areas for solar panels.

Headquartered in Austria with manufacturing plants in the Far East and Italy, Silent Yachts’ new Silent 60 comes with a pair of electric motors of 170kW each, battery capacity of up to 286kWh, and solar panels capable of generating 17kWp (the ‘p’ stands for peak, or optimum sunny conditions), for a claimed cruising range at six to eight knots of around 100 nautical miles.

Naturally there are diesel generators too, both for battery charging and for powering the electric motors, in which case the 60’s maximum speed is 20 knots, with a cruising range defined by the size of the fuel tanks.

Class-leading volume for flexible guest entertainment? Check. Long-range capabilities for adventurous voyages? No problem. A customisable interior for an easy ownership experience? All part of the Sirena 78 package.

But one of the keenest examples of that do-it-all ethos has to be the flybridge . To help cater for a variety of customers and cruising destinations, the Sirena 78’s upper deck is available in open, semi-enclosed and fully enclosed formats.

Sunreef 70 Power

Based in Gdansk and soon to be setting up a facility in the UAE, Sunreef Yachts is a low-volume producer of innovative sail and power catamarans that celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

The Sunreef 70 Power joins a successful range that stretches from 60 to 100 feet, but the company also has ambitions to move into the superyacht realm, with a variety of powercat designs touted up to 50 metres.

As a catamaran, of course, and a beamy one at that, the new Sunroof 70 Power boasts a huge square flybridge shaded by a huge square hard top with sunroof, and a huge square saloon with a lower-deck companionway in each corner – plus, if you wish, a huge open-plan galley.

The integration of fly deck and bow lounge is deeply impressive

Sunseeker 100 Yacht

The Sunseeker 100 Yacht is set to usher in what the British yard calls a “new era” in flybridge design. Aggressively styled, with an unbroken window line that seems to separate the superstructure from the hull, the new 100 Yacht’s potent three-dimensional aesthetic generates huge visual impact.

But what really sets the new Sunseeker 100 Yacht apart is not so much its style as its thought-provoking reinterpretation of the tri-deck layout.

By creating a full-beam walkaround upper level with easy fore-and-aft access to the foredeck lounge, the new Sunseeker’s flybridge is able to encompass almost the entire boat’s length.

The annual event traditionally acts as a barometer for the buoyancy of the yachting industry as a whole and offers brokerages the opportunity to report their sales and charter performances to the international yachting community. Fraser took the chance to host a select group of journalists and industry professionals on the 45.01m M/Y SCOUT. yacht show europe

A BOAT SHOW is a public exhibition or trade fair of current boat models, debuts, concept vessels, or out-of-production classics. Due to the nature of the industry building around yachting and nautical tourism, a boat show may be a social event. It is commonly attended by marine manufacturers, ship and boat builders as well as yachtsmen.

Most boat shows occur once a year, typically for the duration of a week. They may have exhibitions on land or on water. Boat shows are vital to marine manufacturers and local dealers as a public relations exercise, for advertising products, and for increasing publicity.

With more than 1,300 boats and exhibitions spanning more than 100 acres, it is easily the world’s largest yacht show. What are the top yacht trends 2024?

Top yacht trends for 2024 include a growth in expedition vessels, a boom in charters and new-build yachts, greener yachting solutions, new technology and emerging markets, and changing demographics, including a younger yachting clientele.

  • The growth of expedition vessels is driven by yacht owners and charterers wishing to explore the world’s most remote regions. Younger yachting enthusiasts are particularly keen on exploring off the beaten path, seeking more immersive yachting adventures that require an adventure yacht.
  • A boom in charters and new builds, driven by a general increase and interest in the yachting industry. According to Boat International, there were more than 1,200 superyacht projects on the global order books in 2023, a rise of 17.5% compared to previous years. This growth is expected to continue this year and beyond.
  • A desire to enjoy an experiential yachting experience with custom and highly unique experiences.
  • Greener yachting solutions, including hybrid and electric yachts and sustainable onboard practices. This trend is front-and-centre at the world’s leading yacht shows in 2024, with many boasting dedicated sustainability exhibitions.
  • New technology is changing the yachting industry and will be a key yacht trend in 2024. Smart yachts are becoming the norm, increasing efficiency and onboard experiences. The role of AI is increasing in the yachting industry, and VR is also gaining momentum.
  • Emerging markets in 2024 will see a shift in the yachting industry, driven by wealth changes and the global UHNW population. While North America and Europe remain the world’s largest yacht consumers, Asia has now overtaken Europe as the second-largest UHNW region, and by 2025 Asia-Pacific will boast almost a quarter of the global population of UHNWIs. Due to this shift in wealth, key yacht industry players are expanding to Asia. You can learn more about the latest UHNW demographics in Relevance’s UHNW whitepaper .
  • The Gen Z influence will continue to increase in 2024 as younger clients enter the yachting industry, with the average age of superyacht owners now predicted to be between 35 and 45.

MYBA Charter Show logo at Marina Port Vell yacht in background through window in Barcelona 2023 photo©carolkent.com

Boat Shows , CK News , Destination Spotlight

Spring in europe means annual yacht charter shows: barcelona 2023, spring in europe is our time to attend the annual yacht charter shows and this year beautiful barcelona hosted the 2023 myba yacht charter show. barcelona will also host the 2024 america’s cup challenge so the buzz here is electric..

Our job is to visit travel destinations where you have been or you may want to go. Someone has to be your eyes, ears, nose, and tastebuds “at sea” and “on the ground” and we work hard to be your best resource.

Last Spring in 2022, I attended the Mediterranean Charter Show in Nafplion , Greece hosted this excellent event that included more than 90 Greek-flagged yachts. Then on to Gocek, Turkey for the Turkish Yachting & Brokers Association (TYBA) yacht charter show in May 2022 which was also a great success.

This year, 2023, I attended the MYBA (The Worldwide Yachting Association)   Charter Show in Spain.  Showcasing the “super yachts” that ply the Western Mediterranean in the summers, it was held at the Marina Port Vell Barcelona.

After the charter show, I will be traveling to the most desirable Italian islands; Sicily, Sardinia, and Corsica and then sailing in Croatia. Later in this post are itineraries for these destinations that we think you’ll enjoy.

Barcelona is a gorgeous, thriving historical city. She will be hosting the 37th America’s Cup Challenge in 2024 !

The incredible Costa de Sol coastline is where I stayed for cruising and for its short flights from Barcelona to The Balearics. The 33rd MYBA (Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association) Charter Show put on a fabulous week of meeting crews, gaining insights into itineraries, and overall getting to know our partners.

SICILY and the AEOLIAN ISLANDS, ITALY

From Barcelona to Palermo is only a 2-hour flight.

Sicily may be on your radar after all the fuss about the show WHITE LOTUS on HBO. Filming took place in Palermo, Sicily’s capital, the San Domenico Palace (a Four Seasons Hotel) in Taormina, and La Cambusa, a ristorante in Giardini Naxos.

Popular ports are Palermo, Capo d’ Orlando, Milazzo, a jumping-off point to the Aeolian islands (also known as the Lipari Islands) including volcanic Stromboli.

There are seven volcanic islands, Lipari being the largest. I will be staying on Salina, one of the most serene and peaceful of this island cluster. Ferry-hopping will be an adventure.

Returning to the mainland, traveling east of the island, Taormina is one of the most popular ports with Mt. Etna in view.  It is perched on a rocky headland high above the sea.

Sardinia and Corsica

SARDINIA, Italy – Flights out of Catania are easy for a short jaunt to Olbia, Sardinia.  Unlike her sister Sicily, she is much more of a “high-end” tourist area, especially with ports of call such as Porto Cervo, Porto Rotundo (where I will be staying), and the protected La Maddalena Archipelago National Park islands. Porto Teresa Gallura is an easy ferry transport to Bonifacio, Corsica.

CORSICA, France – Coming from Sardinia through the Straits of Bonifacio Harbor, this city is situated on the cliffs.  The beauty is natural and boasts Romanesque, Gothic or neo-Byzantine architecture.

A look at the most expensive superyachts at the Palm Beach yacht show and their insane features, from basketball courts on deck to ice baths and saunas

  • The Palm Beach International Boat Show kicks off later this week.
  • Eight megayachts are expected to be on display for would-be buyers and charter customers.
  • These are the show's biggest yachts — and how many millions of dollars they are going for.

Insider Today

The Palm Beach International Boat Show — the yacht world's flashiest event stateside — is returning this year with over 800 boats for both deep-pocked potential owners and window shoppers to peruse.

While it's impossible to know what exactly will be on display until the show begins on Thursday, it's expected that eight megayachts — generally defined as ships over 60 meters long — will be docked at the show and at nearby marinas like the Rybovich Marina in the ritzy Florida town.

Some of these are for sale at eye-popping prices, but others are available to if in case you fancy living like a billionaire for a week or two this summer (and if you have six figures to spare on a vacation).

These are the eight biggest yachts that will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show and nearby marinas, in size order.

Nero: 90.1 meters

Price: From $497,000 a week (charter) Standout features: Pizza ovens, beauty salon, massage room, resistance pool

Reportedly owned by Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, Nero is modeled after J.P. Morgan's 1930s ship , and was built in 2007 and updated in 2021.

She now boasts a gym on her sundeck with multiple cardio machines and a beauty salon, and has an on-board beautician for manicure, pedicure, hair, and massage needs. There's also an upgraded movie theater, two new pizza ovens, and both a pool and a jacuzzi.

For those who want to go overboard, she has more than a dozen toys, including a waterslide, Jet Ski, and flyboard.

Victorious: 85 meters

Price: From $876,600 a week in the summer and $950,000 a week in the winter Standout features: Hammam (Turkish bath), wine cellar, wood-burning fireplace, children's playroom

Victorious brings a party vibe to the yacht show. With a beach club on board, a wine cellar, a cigar clubroom , multiple bars, and a lounge with a piano, the vessel is made for entertaining. Plus, there's a playroom and movie theater to entertain the kids.

For tamer charter clients, Victorious has a suite of wellness features such as a gym, massage room, beauty salon and hammam, or Turkish bath — perhaps a custom request of her owner, Turkish businessman Vural Ak.

She also boasts a treasure trove of water toys, including Jet Skis, jetsurfs, inflatable kayaks, and scuba equipment.

Casino Royale: 72 meters

Price: TBD Special Features: Infinity pool, helipad, private jacuzzi

Purchased and refitted by car dealer magnate John Staluppi last year, Casino Royale is the latest of his James Bond-inspired yachts (he's also owned an Octopussy and a Skyfall, among others).

Casino Royale has a helipad that turns into a dancefloor, an infinity pool, and a wellness center with a gym and sauna. The owner's cabin has its own deck, which features a private bar and jacuzzi.

Related stories

However, the boat's price isn't listed, and while she's not necessarily officially for sale, that might change depending on who's prepared to buy, Mr. Bond.

Talisman C: 70.6 meters

Price: $60 million (or from $567,000 a week to charter) Special features: Massage and beauty room, private library

Likely the largest yacht for sale (not just charter) at the show, the Talisman C is a 2011 six-bedroom boat. The owner's cabin comes with an en suite bathroom, dressing room, private library, and crystal chandeliers.

Amenities include a gym, a beauty room, oversized jacuzzi, and a fully equipped bar. Her crew of 19 includes a trained masseuse, and the toy room comes equipped with a wakeboard, eFoil , and WaveRunners.

Joy: 70 meters

Price: From $650,000 a week Special features: Disco club, basketball court, onboard fitness instructor

Superyacht Joy testifies to the fact that owners want as many on-board experiences as they can get.

There's an expansive suite of fitness features, including a basketball court (don't shoot that hoop too hard!), a personal trainer on staff, boxing equipment, and a handful of machines. For post-workout winddowns, there's a spa with a steam room and onboard masseuse. And for entertainment, there's both an outdoor and indoor cinema, and a disco club.

Triumph: 65.4 meters

Price: From $707,600 a week in the summer and $650,000 a week in the winter Special features: Sauna, helipad, banana boat

This 2021 superyacht is named after Triumph motorcycles — a reported favorite of her rumored owner, British businessman Chris Dawson — and even has one on display as an art piece in the upper deck's lounge. The primary suite is 1,400 square feet and has its own study , and there's a sauna, an indoor-outdoor gym, a helipad, and a massage room spread among her six decks.

She boasts an "armada of water toys," including two kinds of Jet Skis, electric water bikes, and a banana boat.

Seanna: 64.5 meters

Price: $54,000,000 (or from $462,000 a week to charter) Special features: marble foyer, movie room, sundeck pool

The recently refurbished Seanna is available for sale and charter.

Her indoor-outdoor gym is on sea level so that passengers can take a dip after a session with the onboard personal trainer. There's also a sundeck pool, a helipad, a two-room massage facility, and, for the more cerebral guests, a library with an electric fireplace.

There are a number of toys on board, including a popular water trampoline and two WaveRunners.

Come Together: 60 meters

Price: $65,000,000 Special Features: DJ and videographer on board, ice bath, sauna

Next-to-new yacht Come Together is looking for a new owner after doing charters during the 2023 season.

The Beatles' influence is evident beyond the yacht's name, with guitars dotting the sky lounge and a crewmember who doubles as a DJ. There's also an outdoor cinema and bar for entertainment and an ice bath and sauna for the day after the party. The owner's suite has a private study and lounge, and each guest cabin has its own ensuite.

The sale includes a number of toys, like Jet Skis, kayaks, and Seabobs.

Why has Leo Varadkar suddenly resigned as Irish prime minister?

A disastrous referendum result on modernising definitions of ‘family’ and women’s roles was a major factor.

yacht show europe

Leo Varadkar’s decision to step down as prime minister of Ireland was so surprising that, according to reports, not even colleagues from his centre-right party, Fine Gael, saw it coming.

The Republic of Ireland’s taoiseach (the Irish Gaelic word for “chief” or “leader”), who will resign his post as prime minister as soon as a successor is chosen by his party and then approved by the Irish parliament, cut an emotional figure as he made his announcement on the steps of government buildings in Dublin on Wednesday after serving two terms as Irish premier – the first from 2017 to 2020 and the second since 2022. He will step down as his party’s leader with immediate effect.

With his party floundering in the polls, the 45-year-old said that another leader – and therefore another prime minister – would be “better placed” to tackle the next Irish general election, which must be held no later than March 2025.

“I believe this government can be re-elected,” he said. “I believe a new taoiseach will be better placed than me to achieve that – to renew and strengthen the top team, to refocus our message and policies, and to drive implementation. After seven years in office, I am no longer the best person for that job.”

Who is Leo Varadkar?

As the dramatic manner of his resignation suggests, Varadkar has not shied away from making political waves during his time as a front-line politician.

Indeed, when the former medical doctor became taoiseach in 2017 at the age of just 38, he immediately made history as the youngest, the first mixed-race and the first openly gay politician to occupy the premiership of Ireland, a European Union member state steeped in Catholic heritage.

Varadkar, who was born in Dublin to an Indian immigrant father and Irish mother in 1979, first went public with his sexuality during a radio interview with Ireland’s RTE Radio 1 in 2015 while serving as Irish health minister.

“I am a gay man. It’s not a secret, but not something that everyone would necessarily know but isn’t something I’ve spoken publicly about before,” he told listeners.

“It’s not something that defines me,” he added. “I’m not a half-Indian politician, or a doctor politician or a gay politician for that matter. It’s just part of who I am … it is part of my character I suppose.”

Why is he stepping down now?

Varadkar’s attempt to modernise references to family and women in the country’s 87-year-old constitution in a dual referendum earlier this month resulted in a humiliating and heavy defeat for the taoiseach and his political allies.

The first question in the referendum asked Irish voters for permission to widen the definition of family by amending wording so it read that families can be established “on marriage or on other durable relationships”.

The second question asked citizens whether the clause – “mothers shall not be obliged by economic necessity to engage in labour to the neglect of their duties in the home” – should be deleted and another – “The state recognises that the provision of care, by members of a family to one another by reason of the bonds that exist among them, gives to society a support without which the common good cannot be achieved, and shall strive to support such provision” – added.

Varadkar had described the polls, which deliberately fell on International Women’s Day on March 8, as a chance to do away with “very old-fashioned, very sexist language about women”.

In the end, however, the nation disagreed with him and, while Ireland’s main political parties all campaigned for a “Yes, Yes” vote, Varadkar was particularly criticised for leading a “gimmicky” and “confusing” campaign.

“There are a lot of people who got this wrong and I am certainly one of them,” he said after the referendum results were announced.

Tom McTague, political editor of the UK’s UnHerd, summed up Varadkar’s immediate legacy by writing that he “resigned as all political leaders do: dispirited and unpopular, the sheen of his early years long since wiped away by the grinding realities of government. His party, Fine Gael, now trails badly in the polls. Ireland’s housing crisis borders on the obscene”.

Varadker and Biden

What were his career highlights as Irish taoiseach?

Varadkar’s time at the top of government saw him serve five years as Irish prime minister and two as deputy prime minister (between 2020 and 2022).

When he first became taoiseach in 2017, Ireland’s nearest neighbour, the United Kingdom, had recently voted to quit the European Union in its so-called Brexit referendum of 2016 – which also triggered the resignation of a prime minister, the UK’s David Cameron.

But after then-UK Prime Minister Theresa May declared that Britain’s departure from the EU would also mean its withdrawal from the bloc’s single market and customs union, the spectre of a hard border between EU member the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK, loomed large.

Northern Ireland’s sensitive political history of sectarian conflict known as the Troubles – which lasted for nearly 30 years and ended in May 1998 with the Good Friday Agreement – became a major issue for Varadkar, who wanted to keep the flow of goods moving between the two jurisdictions without the need for security cameras or border posts dividing the island of Ireland.

Varadkar was at the centre of negotiations between the UK, the EU and Ireland on this issue, which saw a deal finalised after Northern Ireland was made to align with EU trading rules.

Varadkar namechecked this deal, which was recently modified as part of a deal to resume Northern Ireland’s devolved power-sharing government in February, as one of his main successes in his resignation speech.

“We prevented a hard border between north and south and protected our place in Europe,” he stated.

Varadkar oversaw the lifting of a near-total ban on abortion in 2018 when the country voted overwhelmingly in favour of reform of the country’s strict laws.

In recent months, Varadkar has publicly criticised Israel’s ongoing military campaign against the Gaza Strip.

Following the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, the physically imposing premier (he stands 1.9m or 6ft 4in tall) departed from the Western narrative when he criticised the Israeli state’s military motives in the face of the rising Palestinian death toll, which has since surpassed 31,000.

“What I’m seeing unfolding at the moment isn’t just self-defence. It looks, resembles something more approaching revenge,” he said during a visit to South Korea in November 2023. “That’s not where we should be. And I don’t think that’s how Israel will guarantee future freedom and future security.”

When multiple nation donors suspended funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) after Israel accused it of employing members of Hamas, Varadkar was among the few leaders who pledged to continue sending money in February.

On March 15, just five days before he announced his resignation, Varadkar urged US President Joe Biden to work towards an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza during a St Patrick’s Day meeting in Washington with the American leader, who frequently refers to his own Irish heritage.

Simon Harris

Who will succeed Varadkar as Irish PM?

Ireland’s minister for higher education and former health minister, Simon Harris, is being widely touted as the favourite to succeed Varadkar as leader of Fine Gael, and become Irish prime minister.

At just 37, a victory for Harris would see him trump Varadkar as the youngest-ever Irish taoiseach if Fine Gael declare him as its new party leader on April 6, and he is voted in by the Irish Parliament after the Easter break.

Others initially seen as possible contenders, including enterprise minister Simon Coveney, minister for justice Helen McEntee and minister for public expenditure Paschal Donohoe, have ruled themselves out.
