‘hello nasty’: how three mcs and one dj created the beastie boys’ classic.

According to a logline, the film tells the story of “Bri, a 16-year-old gifted rapper, who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father–a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.”

Yachty has been quiet on the music front this year. Around this time in 2021, he released Birthday Mix Vol. 6 via Quality Control Music & Motown Records. The annual tradition is a fan favorite among Yachty devotees.

The rapper, entrepreneur, and mogul has released his birthday mixes since 2015 exclusively on SoundCloud, with this installation being the first available on all streaming platforms.  Birthday Mix Vol. 6 is a nine-track project featuring verses from Lil Tecca, Sofaygo, and DC2DRILL & Draft Day, who are both signed to Lil Yachty’s Concrete Boys label.

Back in June of 2021, Lil Yachty shared “Love Music.” The laid-back single was his first release following his highly praised Michigan Boy Boat mixtape .

In other news for the mogul, Yachty has been working on a new series for HBO Max based on the card game ‘UNO’, releasing his cryptocurrency “YachtyCoin,” partnering with Reese’s Puffs Cereal, and promoting his new unisex nail-paint line Crete.

Lil Yachty

Rapper Lil Yachty is developing an action heist comedy based on Uno — yes, the card game — with Mattel Films.

Marcy Kelly wrote the screenplay for the movie, set in the underground hip hop world of Atlanta. Though the cast has not been announced, Lil Yachty is being eyed for the lead role.

“I’m so excited to be part of this film with Mattel,” said Lil Yachty, a musician best known for the songs “Broccoli” and “iSpy.” “I played Uno as a kid and still do today, so to spin that into a movie based on the Atlanta hip hop scene I came out of is really special. It hits close to home for me.”

Uno was created in a Cincinnati barbershop in the ’70s as a way for families to spend time together. Five decades later, the game is available in more than 80 countries. Mattel has owned the game since 1992.

Along with Lil Yachty, Mattel Films will produce the movie with Quality Control’s Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas and Brian Sher for Quality Films.

Popular on Variety

Robbie Brenner, executive producer, and Kevin McKeon, supervising producer, will lead the project for Mattel Films.

“At Mattel Films, we are looking to explore stories that bring our brands to life in unexpected ways,” said Brenner. “Uno is a game that transcends generations and cultures and we look forward to partnering with Lil Yachty, as well as with Coach, P, and Brian Sher, to transform the classic Uno game into a comedic action adventure.”

Numerous films have been based on Mattel products and toys, including American Girl, Barbie, Barney, Hot Wheels and Magic 8 Ball.

Lil Yachty is represented by ICM Partners and Uwonda Carter Scott. Kelly is represented by 3Arts Entertainment and JYWAMM.

Lil Yachty and D.C. Young Fly Star in ‘How High 2’ Trailer

Mail

It has taken about two decades for the How High sequel to come to life but it’s finally here and it’s coming out on 4/20.

film di lil yachty

MTV released the trailer for the flick starring Lil Yachty and D.C. Young Fly. “In a word up in smoke,” the trailer begins, “a pair of heroes will rise and lift us higher than ever before.”

Although Mike Epps previously stated he had no interest in reprising his role as Baby Powder for the second installment, it was announced last month that he will be joining the cast of the film. Fans were disappointed after learning neither Method Man or Redman had anything to do with the follow-up film, but Reggie claims they weren’t even contacted.

film di lil yachty

“Long story short is that me and Meth was not aware that they were doing this transaction with the movie,” Redman said.

“I’m not mad at Yachty or DC Fly—like I said, it has nothing to do with them. And I’m not even upset because God always places things in the right position anyway; I’m just following the path,” he said. “But my thing is when you have a brand, like Red and Meth, that kind of helped built and created this entity of How High and shooting a movie on How High — I mean, marijuana and being in college. Those were all our ideas. And when the new deal came about, we wasn’t involved in it.”

But there are a couple of notable people who do make cameos including Lil Baby, Blac Youngsta, NeNe Leakes, Cynthia Bailey, and Justine Skye. The film will also star Alyssa Goss, DeRay Davis, and Mary Lynn Rajskub.

Method Man and Lil Yachty

This week, Paramount+ unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming film On The Come Up , which is based on Angie Thomas’ New York Times bestselling novel of the same name. As the trailer ‘s description reveals, said film will star Jamila C. Gray as 16-year-old Bri, a battle rapper who’s looking to continue the legacy of a father who’s life was lost to gang violence:

“But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.”

In addition to Gray, On The Come Up ‘s cast includes hip hop stars Lil Yachty, GaTa, and Method Man , along with Mike Epps, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Justin Martin, Titus Makin, and Michael Cooper Jr. In addition to having a supporting role, Sanaa Lathan handled director duties for On The Come Up , marking her first time helming a feature film.

Back in 2017, Thomas unveiled her debut book “The Hate U Give,” another young adult story about a 16-year-old Black girl in the midst of racial turmoil after witnessing her friend die at the hands of a police officer. A year later, that book was transitioned into a movie that was directed by George Tillman Jr. and saw decorated actor Amandla Stenberg in the starring role. The Hate U Give received critical acclaim following its arrival in theaters and has since won a wealth of awards and nominations, with Stenberg receiving well-deserved praise for her depiction of its main character Starr Carter.

Check out the full trailer for On The Come Up below. Following its premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, the film will hit the Paramount+ streaming platform in the United States, Canada, and Italy Sept. 23.

A review of Lil Yachty's new song ‘Lil Mega Minion' from the Despicable Me 4 Soundtrack

I t appears that as part of Universal Picture's "Despicable Me 4" rollout, the production company has teamed up with rapper Lil Yachty and director Cole Bennett, from Lyrical Lemonade, in distributing the second single for the movie's soundtrack titled Lil Mega Minion .

Although it's yet to be confirmed if Lil Mega Minion will be previewed during the film, the song's direction and visuals bear a striking resemblance to Yeat's 2022 single Rich Minion, which was used in the Lyrical Lemonade directed trailer for the movie "Minions: The Rise of Gru".

Yachty announced the release of the song with a post made on his official Instagram handle. The rapper dedicated this post to Cole Bennett and Despicable Me's animation studio, Illumination Entertainment, by sharing his appreciation for being able to work together on this project.

"New song out for the minions movie. This is special." - Yachty captioned his Instagram post.

Lil Yachty's Lil Mega Minion follows up on Pharrell Williams' lead single for the film titled Double Life, which was released on June 14, 2024, marking his second collaboration with the production company.

Pharrell famously worked with Universal for "Despicable Me 2," during which he distributed his now 11-time platinum single Happy .

Breaking down Lil Yachty's latest single 'Lil Mega Minion'

Lil Yachty works alongside producer, LOTTO, to deliver Lil Mega Minion as the second single for Universal's upcoming motion picture "Despicable Me 4". Cole Bennett directs a visually pleasing music video featuring a guest appearance from Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe , playing the director of "Lyrical Lemonade Records".

The video starts with Zane discussing the sonic direction of Lil Mega Minion with five minions from the film, seated in his office before Bennett suggests featuring Lil Yachty on the track. The minions proceed to get violently excited and jump out the window, hoping to track down the rapper.

Yachty's record has a complete runtime of 1:51 minutes and was uploaded to all streaming platforms on 24 June 2024 via Illumination Entertainment, Back Lot Music, and Universal Studios Music LLLP.

The cover art recreates a scene from the music video where the minions manage to track down Yachty and unintentionally knock him out. Some of the major themes the rapper delves into on Lil Mega Minion are listed below:

  • Brotherhood
  • Relationships

Disclaimer: This review is rated explicit. Reader's discretion is advised.

"Hey, hey / Hey, hey / Hey / Hey"

Yachty opens with a simple intro delivered over a melodic trap production where he exclaims "Hey," several times while waving at the minions as he performs inside a recording booth.

"Jig is up, I'm back in town / You my lil' minion, you follow me around / I make you smile, ain't never tryna see you frown / I get deep in your mouth like a crown / I'ma lift the whole school off the ground / I'ma hit it O-T like, Wow"

Yachty floats over the trap production as he opens on the hook for Lil Mega Minion , where we see the rapper deliver lines expressing a sense of brotherhood and togetherness. The rapper points at one of the characters, suggesting a friendship-like bond, when calling them his "lil minion".

The chorus also finds Yachty highlighting an elevated status in Hip Hop, with lines that indicate that people look up to him and wish to follow in his footsteps.

"She do hashtags, TikToks / All the flashbacks look the same / My wrist watch, think it's time for it / It's time for it"

The chorus then blends into Yachty's first verse where the rapper begins to reference a love interest and her affinity for social media , while we hear the minions provide backing harmony tracks.

The music video mixes the vibey performance with chaotic visuals where we find movie characters floating in the air as well as a scene where one of the minions eats a Grammy award.

"Think it's time for it / Rockin' Tom Ford / Oh, that reminds me, you need to mind yours / Camp out with pine doors, log cabin in middle of the forest"

Yachty continues to flex his wealth and fashion style in the song, with lines that suggest he doesn't pay any heed to people who criticize him. This bar can be interpreted as Yachty expressing a disregard for luxury clothing while suggesting he wears Tom Ford when "camping" out in the forest.

"Maybach, reclining seats, treat me like I'm all yours / Wanna drop right into the chorus"

The verse ends with a single line where Lil Yachty flexes his Mayback before suggesting the song's hook should play one more time. Listeners are then drawn back into Lil Mega Minion's chorus before the rapper opens his second verse.

"I'll get with you in a minute / Any minute like spread / She's more and can't even see it / I think I'm in love with her legs, I can hear your voice through the text"

The final verse of this song is short and features a single bar from Yachty, where the rapper expresses his love for an unnamed woman. He highlights the strength of their intimate connection by suggesting that he can hear her voice "through the text".

The music video ends with Lil Yachty returning to his "Hey" intro, throwing up a peace sign, and dancing his way out of the studio.

Universal Picture's "Despicable Me 4" is scheduled to be released in all theatres across the United States on July 3, 2024. The movie's premise revolves around Gru, his family, and his newborn son dealing with a criminal, Maxime Le Mal, who vows to exact his revenge on the lead characters for being imprisoned.
