This sailing club is like none other. Friendly people , expert race committee. Meals available by reservation only . This is not a restaurant . Sailing is the focus and others are welcome . Cabins are wonderful get away spots. Members only is the rule here. Motor boating is permitted but remember it is all about the sailing ! Come try!!

Photo of Michael P.

I do enjoy sailing here because: 1. Competition is always good, 2. Race Committee is top notch, and 3. Members are generous in lending out their cabins. The negatives are that the ramps are really hard to launch on if you aren't use to them and the locals are impatient if you don't know what you're doing and I have been to 3 regattas where they have run out of food for dinner and/or lunch for those who paid for them. Most of the members are friendly to outsiders and helpful. They also have a great camping area with electricity right by the lake.

Lake Allatoona

Sailing on lake allatoona.

Plenty of lakefaring men and women love sailing on Lake Allatoona.  A few are also seafaring!

If you are a sailor and you’ve been on land too long, your heart will drive you to sing, “ Sailing, sailing over the bounding main! ”  If you’re not a sailor, having solid soil beneath your feet suits you just fine … and you probably wonder what the heck “over the bounding main” means.  If your captain has been in the grog and a plank is dangling off the deck, it’s better not to ask until you come back to shore.

If you do have questions about sailing on Lake Allatoona, here are some links that will lead you to clear sailing and safe harbors.

Atlanta Yacht Club

Atlanta Yacht Club on Lake Allatoona has been home to small-boat pleasure and racing sailors for over sixty years.   Membership in Atlanta Yacht Club is available to all persons with a sailboat or an interest in sailing although a preference is given to those interested in racing.  A prospective member must be sponsored and co-sponsored by two Club members, then interviewed by our membership committee and approved by the general membership.

South Winds Sailing Club

The home port of South Winds Sailing Club (SWSC) is at beautiful Lake Allatoona’s Harbor Town Marina (34°07’46N , 84°38’16W).  There are many marine services are available for you and your sailboats, including fuel docks, a bathhouse with showers, and sailboat slips of assorted widths and lengths to accommodate most sailboats.

Since 1981, SWSC has promoted nautical activities, sailing races, and good fellowship among its members and guests.  From raft ups, potlucks, special events, to handicap sailboat racing, SWSC is about enjoying the beauty of the lake, a little competition, family, friends, fun, and new adventures.

We welcome visitors at our various events.  You can even bring your boat and try a race or two.  We only ask that if you enjoy what we do, please become a member and support the club.

Black Crowes cancel Minnesota Yacht Club appearance set for Friday

T he Black Crowes have canceled their appearance set for Friday at the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club festival at Harriet Island in St. Paul. The reason is "illness in the band," according to the fest's post on X on Thursday evening.

Harbor and Home 2 to 2:40 p.m.

Morgan Wade 2:40 to 3:40 p.m.

Michigander 3:40 to 4:40 p.m.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts 4:40 to 5:40 p.m.

Durry 5:40 to 6:40 p.m.

Gwen Stefani 6:45 to 8 p.m.

The 14 Best Dive Bars In Atlanta image

The 14 Best Dive Bars In Atlanta

Little Five is the divey epicenter of ATL. Almost every bar in that hood could be classified as a dive, but Euclid Avenue Yacht Club is the quirkiest and one of the oldest. Their door says “membership not required,” but if it was, we’d absolutely pay the fee to belong to this dive bar staple in Little Five. The walls are stuffed with nautical-themed knickknacks (a giant shark, a bust of a mermaid) that look like they’ve been on the walls since the bar opened in the ’80s. After a few reliable beers, we’ll need one of their massive and messy burgers to keep our sea legs. Our favorite is the Backyard Burger with a spicy jalapeño ranch slaw dripping out the sides. Sure, there are plenty of places to get a burger and a brew in L5P, but Yacht Club's small space and nautical theme is our siren song for a wild night.

2011 Gone with the Wind Regatta

  • Welcome to the Atlanta Model Yacht Club!

Since the late 70’s the Atlanta Model Yacht Club has been racing model sailboats locally. Our club is one of over a hundred from all across the U.S that is sanctioned by the American Model Yachting association. Every year we sponsor a regatta, which is posted on the AMYA Regatta Schedule inviting other R/C sailors from other areas to join in.

The class of boats our club sails on a regular basis is the East Coast 12. By “Class” is meant that every boat meets the same measurement specifications as the other boats in the class so as to ensure equal performance and racing competition. It is our hope that you will join us in the hobby and sport of R/C sailing and that you will eventually own a boat of the same class.

Our club meets to sail, season and weather permitting, on Saturdays, almost year round. We try to schedule in about 6-10 races and finish up for the day by around 4pm. The rules, the layout of the course marks and the procedure we use when racing are identical to those used by sailors of full-scale sailboats.

The locations of our sailing sites are Martin’s Landing Lake, in Roswell or Murphy Candler Park in Dunwoody and Lake Allatoona in Acworth. You are invited to come visit us. We look forward to handing you a transmitter and showing you what fun it is to sail by remote control.

Lynx all-star kayla mcbride headed for wnba three-point shooting contest.

While three Lynx players are headed to the Olympics, another has a little more basketball left before the league's monthlong break.

"Don't forget our little All-Star, everybody," Natisha Hiedeman joked after Wednesday's victory over Atlanta.

That All-Star, Kayla McBride, will play for the WNBA against Team USA in Phoenix on Saturday. She assured Hiedeman "I'm going to get up at least five threes" in the game.

Technically, McBride is guaranteed to shoot at least 27 threes at this weekend's WNBA All-Star festivities. A leader on the league's best three-point-shooting squad, the Lynx guard has another shot at the WNBA three-point contest title after finishing runner up in 2018 and 2019.

"When you lose to one of the best shooters ever, it's okay," McBride said about her loss to Allie Quigley in 2018, when Quigley set a new three-point contest record. "You can sleep at night."

McBride, 32, heads to Phoenix for her fourth All-Star game and her first in a Lynx jersey. Minnesota has had plenty of All-Stars but never a three-point contest winner. McBride could become the first on Friday night before the league's All-Stars face Team USA's Olympic roster on Saturday.

"It's different wearing Lynx across your chest and being an All-Star. It just carries so much more weight for me and how long I've been in this league," McBride said. "I played against those dynasty [Lynx] teams, and so I remember all the players that have come through here."

In the past two weeks, McBride's performance has been the Lynx's lifeline and a reminder of why she's an All-Star. Napheesa Collier, the Lynx's leading scorer and a U.S. Olympian, has missed the past five games with plantar fasciitis pain. In her absence, McBride has averaged 19.2 points per game, including a 30-point performance against Atlanta on Wednesday.

"She knows before I say things, she knows before I react to something, she already knows what's coming," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said. "She's really locked into what's working, what needs to happen."

In her 11th WNBA season , McBride is averaging 16.4 points per game and posting her best shooting year since joining the Lynx in 2020. She scored at least 25 points in three games during Minnesota's Commissioner's Cup title run and is shooting nearly as well from three (42.7%) as she is the entire floor (44.4%). She leads the league in three-pointers made this season (76) off the fifth-most amount of attempts from beyond the arc.

It has been five years since the last-time McBride, the Lynx's most veteran player, earned All-Star honors, and she said that being back is a testament to how well the Lynx are playing.

"You question it," McBride said about whether she thought she would ever return to the All-Star Game. "There's so much talent in the league."

McBride's three-point prowess isn't an anomaly on the current Lynx roster, which Reeve said was built to put up the sort of stats that it has in the season's first 25 games. Among them: A league-best 38.4% three-point shooting. The league's second-highest total number of threes made. Three of the top-10 most efficient three-point shooters this year. Alanna Smith, an Australian Olympian, and Bridget Carleton, who will play for Canada, join McBride on that list.

High shooting percentage from three forces opponents to "scramble and get to everyone," Reeve said. "You can't not scramble to someone. And so all of them being able to shoot spreads things out."

McBride has said that her career shooting year has come from knowing herself better "as a basketball player, as a woman," through journaling, focusing on mental health and family and "finding a joy in playing" within the Lynx organization.

"When you have that joy when adversity hits, that's when you know you have something special. That's a big part of it — going to work with people you love, every day," McBride said. "The grass is greener where you water it."

McBride will face Stefanie Dolson, Allisha Gray, Marina Mabrey and Jonquel Jones in Friday's three-point contest. The WNBA confirmed Sabrina Ionescu and Caitlin Clark were both invited to participate, but declined.
