Bassett yacht & boat sales opens new location, there’s a new business in town, and it’s ready to help customers find the perfect monterey boat.

Bassett Yacht and Boat Sales proudly announce the opening of a brand new location this week. Located at 78 Southfield Avenue, in Stamford, Connecticut, their new location is nestled into a prime spot on the water, giving their customers a chance to personally test out their boats before making their final purchase.

Louis Bassett, Sr. & wife Norma started making wooden boats in 1944.  For over 71 years, Bassett's creed has been “We will do whatever we have to do to please our customers”. Today the owners, daughter Diane Bassett Zable & husband Paul J. Zable, are proud to do everything they can to continue the legacy.   Along with this new location, Bassett Yacht and Boat Sales will be bringing forward a great deal of family history to Stamford Landing. Diane Bassett went to this location as a young, single girl and opened a Bassett Boat office there where she lived in a condo attached to that boardwalk. Now Diane & Paul’s 24 year old son, John Paul Bassett Zable, is returning to Stamford, after getting his degree from Roger William University, and will have an office in the very same building as his mother once did.  The Bassett family asks that you join them in their grand opening event on Saturday, June 6th, 2015.  They would also like to remind you that when you purchase a boat from Bassett Yacht and Boat Sales, you are not just buying a boat; you are joining family... the Bassett Boating Family!  And nothing brings the Bassetts greater joy than seeing happy families being brought together.

I haven't given a bad review in a very Long time. "If you don't have anything good to say, say nothing". Unfortunately I do take responsibility for this problem, I had a choice not to patronize this business. The short version, they had my boat ( small 14.5' Lund / 25 hp Mariner) for spring prep. Properly winterized late last fall and stored out of the weather. When I dropped it off "Mike" said, we can start on it this afternoon. I said no rush you have several weeks to get the job done properly because I am going up to the Canadian boarder for our annual fishing trip. If it needs any thing make it proper and give me a call. On the third week Mike called saying they weren't able to get to the boat! Stories, dawg died, dawg ate my cmptr , etc. not interested in stories. Promised the boat would be proper. (Btw I was out the area on work for five weeks) When I came back home I was going to pick it up, but again "Mike said it would be done Saturday, I said no leftovers must be proper. When I picked up the boat the technician said it was perfect. Just spring maintenance. Several hundred dollars, ok as long as it proper. Now I was in a jamb, no time for a "sea trial". Hope for the best. Oh well. Needless to say, engine never started, dead trolling motor battery, battery charger smoked. Unbelievable, you can't make this up. Biggest thieves and liars I have seen in 40 years. I only went there out of sentimental consideration. We grew up around the corner from them and my Pop took us there as kids growing up a long time ago. All Mike had to do was give me the truth and move the boat to someone who would do what was agreed too. There was plenty of time. It's not about the money, I paid and was willing to pay whatever it turned out to be. My Bad. Beware, not honest, not a decent establishment. Stay Away. The worst. I had to post this. Hopefully this will not happen to anyone else. Regards, Jerry G

We are sorry to hear this, as we are in the top 10 in CSI (Customer Satisfaction Index) in the US....we are a new boat dealer for high end quality brands, and usually do not sell or service a 14 ft Lund Aluminum fishing boat.....If you do have the correct dealership, our service department may have tried to help you, however, a Mariner is not a popular brand engine, and parts are not readily available, especially for an older motor.

Great people to deal, I love the service department and Diane is always there.

I work in sales and know how hard it is to keep a customer happy. They know how to do it. I am not easy to please, but they figured it out right from the start. Big shout out to Diane and Paul the owners. Rob M

Bassett History

Louis Bassett Sr. began his career in the boating industry over 75 years ago, in Springfield Mass.  He first started picking nightcrawlers and selling shiners from his bait and tackle store with his wife Norma.  He soon began building his own row boats.  You can still find one in Central Park NY today.  Dawning the age of fiberglass, Lou sold various lines of boats such as Thompson and MFG.  The couple had four children and three of them grew and developed  in the business.  

Through the years, oldest son Louis Jr. made a commitment to a new brand called Sea Ray boats.  Lou, brother Richard, and youngest sister Diane worked hard for years to help make Sea Ray the brand that so many know today.  Richard would eventually move to Florida to build his own Bassett Boat Co.  For a time in the mid 80's to the early 90's the two companies competed as the two largest Sea Ray dealers in the country.  Richard later went on to co found the publicly traded company Marine Max.  

Louis Jr. separated from the original business in the early 90's and in 1993 started Louis Marine Ltd.  A large Maxum dealer for years.  This is where youngest son Tim grew and really developed his service skills, sales ability, and business sense.  In 2012 Tim helped pioneer the French brand Jeanneau power into the United States along with his father and brother.  From 2013 to 2015 Louis Marine was the largest dealer in North America for the brand.  As time passes, families grow.  Tim saw an opportunity to purchase his own marina in the town he grew up in and started Tim Bassett Marine.  Now he  is proud to offer the many years of knowledge and experience to you and your family.
