A day on the water with ShipsAhoy!

This was a fun day out with family and friends when we first got ShipsAhoy! (prior to any major renovations.)

The real Story of ShipsAhoy!

The original owner of "r cabana iii".

...was Brigadier General Gerald "Jerry" Alde Hart, who bought the beautiful yacht brand new in 2004 for $5 million dollars. The General was a decorated WWII  fighter pilot who flew 55 missions in P-38s with the 474th Fighter Group from Warmwell, England. He was shot down by ground fire over France in July of 1944. They consider him a hero there because, even though he was headed to prison, he refused to eat with those German soldiers who stole part of  his money to treat themselves to that meal. Upon returning home, he joined his father in the family business. He was a success and an avid sportsman, but no stranger to pain and loss having survived the loss of his first wife and a beloved son. 

Jerry passed on February 26, 2017, survived by his second wife, a daughter, and a grand daughter. Before his passing at 94 years of age he expressed a wish to a dear friend... "I've been selfish hanging onto this boat for so long. I want it to go to a family that will have as much fun on it as we have had." 

The story continues...

Well that "dear friend" came to be a dear friend of ours as well. When we contacted him about this beautiful boat Ray's brother told us about, we shared with him our story of the loss of our oldest son five years previous, and told him we were ready to have some joy in our lives and this was our dream. I (Carleen) sent him an email explaining all this, which normally, he never would have answered, except... he had lost his own son six months ago. Together we, and the General, were all part of "the club" no one ever wants to be in. "You are like family to me,"  he said,  "and  I'm going to do whatever it takes to get you this boat." And he did. So the boat passed from a pilot to a pilot, and we are all quite sure there were three boys in Heaven who watched the whole thing go down.

How ShipsAhoy! got her name...

Our son, Christian, LOVED ChipsAhoy! cookies. Every year on Christian's birthday, family and friends have ChipsAhoy! in remembrance of him. When I was charged with the task of coming up with a new name for the boat, I thought of lots of good ones, but none of them were right. One night while washing dishes I closed my eyes and said, "Christian, what would you name our boat?" Right away in my head came the words, "ShipsAhoy!" and I knew it was from him. It couldn't be a more perfect name for our boat, which is in fact, our home. And you can always be sure that we have ChipsAhoy! cookies on board!

Important Notes

Parties of 7 or more will be utilizing our bare boat contract. The renter under a bare boat agreement assumes full responsibility for the boat, the equipment, the passengers, and has the right to decide who drives/captains the boat for the day. The renter can choose their own captain, or ask Salt Luxury Charters to assign one for them. If choosing your own captain, we will require that they are knowledgeable of the local waterways, have CPR and first aid valid training with certificate, and are a part of a drug consortium. The charterer may also dismiss the crew at anytime. The charterer is also responsible for bringing the boat and it's equipment back in good, working order. 

If weather and/or wind is undesirable on the day of your tour, we will reschedule or provide a full refund.

Tampa Dinner Cruises and Day Cruises

Tampa is a waterfront city, and the best way to see it is on a dinner cruise or day cruise. Whether you choose a fancy dinner cruise or a pirate cruise, it's sure to be fun.

The 3 Tampa Bay day cruises are: Yacht StarShip, StarLite, and Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise (Clearwater).

The Yacht StarShip is Tampa Bay's premier dining yacht. Yacht StarShip offers entertainment and fine food on dinner and lunch cruises. On Sundays, experience Tampa Bay's largest cruising brunch. Yacht StarShip's normal route includes cruising out of Ybor Channel into the Hillsborough Bay and Garrison Channel. While in route, passengers view Bayshore Drive, Harbour Island, Davis Island, and Downtown Tampa's skyline. Docks at Channelside in downtown Tampa.

The StarLite Dining Yachts operate out of St Petersburg and Clearwater Beach. Dinner and lunch cruises, as well as a Skyway Tour.

Tiki Boat Tours

When it comes to sunset cruises, nothing is cooler than floating around on a tiki bar boat. Both Florida Tiki Tours (pictured in feature image) and Cruisin’ Tikis Tampa offer sunset tiki boat tour experiences. These tours depart from multiple locations throughout Tampa Bay, including John’s Pass in Madeira Beach, Clearwater and even the Tampa Riverwalk . Tours are BYOB, so bring along your own beverages to sip.

Romantic Sunset Cruises for Dinner

Yacht Starship is one of Tampa Bay’s premier dinner cruise options. Departing from Tampa and Clearwater, each tour is an all-inclusive evening aboard a stylish dining yacht. Besides enjoying a 2.5-hour cruise with romantic sunset views, you’ll also be treated to a 3-course meal, open bar (beer and wine) and plenty of time for dancing. Reservations can be made online. Non-dinner cruise option is available as well.

Another local favorite, StarLite Cruises offers sunset dining cruises departing from St. Pete and Clearwater. On this sunset dinner cruise, your ticket includes admission for the 2.5-3 hour cruise with dinner as an add-on once you board. For dinner, you’ll be able to use the full StarLite dining service that functions just as a normal restaurant would. Each of the two ships has a different menu, so make sure to check that before booking! Reservations for romantic sunset cruises can be made online.

Dolphin Watching

For the animal lover in your life, ParrotDise Express offers sunset dolphin watching tours (the **chef’s kiss** of romantic sunset cruises) daily aboard their vessel of the same name. If you’re lucky, you’ll be treated to playful dolphins jumping in the boat’s wake! Each tour lasts 2.5 hours and includes complimentary drinks, including beer and wine.

Laid-Back Romantic Sunset Cruises

Serving up fantastic views of Tampa Bay (including the Tampa skyline) alongside fun facts about the city, Tampa Bay Fun Boat ‘s sunset cruise is a must for a unique date. This relaxing tour lasts for about an hour making it the perfect activity to combine with dinner downtown. Another perk? You’re allowed to bring a cooler with adult beverages on board and there’s no corkage fee. We recommend bringing a bottle of your favorite wine or champagne to toast the beautiful sunset. Tickets are just $18/person and reservations can be made online.

On the St. Pete Beach Sunset Cruise , you will have much more privacy and less crowds. These romantic sunset cruises only take a maximum of six people per voyage, so it’s perfect for the intimate affair! Bring your own food and drinks for a romantic picnic on the water. Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

Yacht StarShip offers a variety of all-inclusive wedding packages for most budgets so you can set sail on your big day completely stress-free. With four breathtaking yachts in our fleet, your dream Tampa Bay wedding, reception and rehearsal dinner can come true on the water. With the luxury of reserving your private dining room OR your private yacht, your guests are sure to be wowed by this venue with an ever-changing backdrop! Yacht StarShip can relocate to St Pete and surrounding areas!

The Ceremony:

Dockside or Underway: The Ceremony is included in the package, or the option of an extended reception time if no ceremony. You can provide your own officiant or the Captain can perform the ceremony for $200 dockside or $400 underway.

• Includes White Chairs, Music (DJ), Microphone

The Cocktail Hour:

Included in the packages: Tables, Chairs, White Tablecloths, and Napkins. Some packages include hand-passed hors d’oeuvres.

The Reception:

Private Yacht or Room on a Public Yacht

Private yacht charters are for 25 or more guests and include: Venue Aboard Private Yacht, Ceremony – White Chairs, Microphone, and Music or Extended Reception Time if No Ceremony, Dinner, DJ, Coordinator, White Table Cloths and Napkins, Coffee and Iced Tea, Champagne Toast, Cake Cutting & Service, Servers, Bartenders and All Required Staffing. Tax and 22% service charge are additional.

You will only need to provide any further décor, photographer, and cake.

• Most events are 4-5 hours. 30 minutes boarding and the rest cruising.
• Capacity: 25-600 (300 seated)

The Food & Drink:

Different packages include different levels of alcohol that the client will pay for. Champagne toast, coffee, and iced tea are included in all of our packages.

We knew that our friends and family would have to travel to our wedding. Being spread out all over Canada meant that either Jon and I would be traveling or all our guests would. Jon was firm on making sure that our wedding would give everyone the opportunity to go on a fantastic vacation.

We had contacted many venues for our wedding, looking for something that catered to an intimate 50-guest, destination wedding. We wanted a venue that could host our ceremony, dinner, and reception. We needed something at one place because with all of our guests traveling to us, we had limited access to transportation. There were a lot of Uber rides and car rentals during our wedding weekend, so having a venue that provided our whole wedding in one place was really important. Yacht Starship provided a unique experience. The scenic venue and hospitality of the employees were amazing.

The most important elements of our wedding were the venue and the atmosphere. We wanted a venue that was unique and accessible, something that would create a lifelong memory for our friends and family who traveled from another country. We also wanted a light-hearted and fun atmosphere, and so we thought an open bar accompanied that well. We chose Yacht Starship because we thought it would be a unique and extravagant experience for our guests. Also, we needed something all in one place because with all of our guests traveling to us, we had limited access to transportation, so having a venue that provided our whole wedding in one place was really important. Yacht StarShip provided a unique experience, and the scenic venue and hospitality of the employees were amazing. The employees made it clear to us that they would ensure a personalized event and that we would have the day of our dreams. Being from Canada, we had a lot of questions, and there was no shortage of emails from me during the planning, but the Yacht StarShip always had a timely and helpful response. We loved working with them and would highly recommend them to any couple attempting to host a destination wedding!

We looked for something that was all-inclusive since we were re-planning the wedding so quickly. The Yacht StarShip offered a venue, amazing picture spots, catering, a coordinator, and a DJ which was everything we were looking for!

Chris was our coordinator, and she was so patient with my last-minute changes. She worked with our timeline and made sure we had a beautiful event!

We looked for a location that was “all-inclusive,” affordable, and that would offer an enjoyable evening for everyone on our guest list. We also looked for a venue that fit our story and our unique personalities.

After speaking to many venues all over the state, we were amazed at everything Yacht StarShip offered for their very affordable packages. We were thrilled that we could get married on a boat, and the staff impressed us not only on our exploratory visit but also during our complimentary dinner cruise to experience the yacht before booking.

Everyone we encountered was extremely easy to work with, helpful in every way, and had the best personalities. Chris, our wedding coordinator, walked us through every step and reminded us of everything that we may have forgotten along the way. The Captain ensured that we stayed in smooth waters and our DJ spent the entire night feeling the crowd out and keeping everyone dancing. The entire staff also accommodated our last-minute changes due to guest cancellations, timeline changes, and some last-minute dinner revisions. Overall, their service from start to finish was phenomenal; we couldn't have asked for better.

The most memorable moment for us was walking down the aisle after the famous ‘I do.' Being surrounded by our family and friends, experiencing the salty air and perfect breeze was the best moment of the whole day as it felt like we could take on the world!

Tropical Pineapple Inspired Waterfront Tampa Wedding | Yacht StarShip

I wanted something that was a complete 180 from our original venue.  I knew if we were going to move our wedding to Florida, I wanted it to be on the Yacht Starship (actually my dad’s suggestion). We both thought a wedding on a boat was really special and unique. We also liked that we were able to space ourselves out and that it was open air.

The Yacht Starship was amazing from beginning to end. They handled everything and really made planning a wedding from across the country, in the middle of a pandemic, possible. We cannot say enough good things about Chris Dorroh (our planner), the officiant, the food, the DJ, and the whole experience.

We chose the Yacht StarShip because most services were all included including food and drinks, ceremony chairs and sound system, cake cutting, DJ, setup, and tear-down. We were able to provide all the decorations, and they set them all up prior to the wedding. Our family and friends did not have to lift a finger!
