Trailer for Yacht Thriller 'Stowaway' with Ruby Rose & Frank Grillo

by Alex Billington July 21, 2022 Source: YouTube

Stowaway Trailer

"Push the red button." Yep that's all it takes to defeat them! Voltage Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a survival thriller titled Stowaway , formerly known as The Yacht . Both of these titles are bland and boring, neither really works. There was already this sci-fi survival thriller called Stowaway on Netflix a few years ago anyway. A tenacious party girl fights to survive after three thieves commandeer her luxury yacht. Described as similar to Die Hard or Panic Room but on a yacht. The indie film stars Ruby Rose , Frank Grillo , Emma Maddock , Patrick Schwarzenegger , Luis Da Silva Jr. , & Major Dodge . Aside from the trailer showing most of the film, including what the thieves are after, this is just a bad trailer. Why does every shot in this look so dark?! Everything on the boat is so poorly shot it's hard to see anything happening.

Here's the official trailer for Declan Whitebloom's Stowaway , direct from Voltage's YouTube :

Stowaway Poster

The film is about a tenacious and troubled young woman who inherits a luxury yacht from her estranged father and has to fight to survive when it gets hijacked by thieves. Unable to escape and trapped on the yacht at high seas, the prey becomes the hunter as she turns the tables on the intruders and takes matters into her own hands. Stowaway , formerly known as just The Yacht , is directed by British filmmaker Declan Whitebloom , making his feature directorial debut after numerous music videos and short films previously. The screenplay is by Ian Hayden. Produced by Adam Beasley, Ford Corbett, Mike Dill, Michael Jefferson, Nathan Klingher, Jib Polhemus, Lowell Shapiro, Anthony Standberry, and Ryan Winterstern. Voltage Pics will debut Whitebloom's Stowaway streaming on AMC+ starting August 5th, 2022 this summer. Anyone?

‘Triangle Of Sadness’: Cannes Review

By Jonathan Romney 2022-05-21T17:20:00+01:00

Ruben Ostland glosses it up for this Palme D’Or winning satire set aboard a luxury yacht

'Triangle Of Sadness'

‘Triangle Of Sadness’

Dir. Ruben Östlund. Sweden/Germany/France/Denmark. 2022. 149 mins

The venerable ‘ship of fools’ metaphor is a hard vessel to steer. And while Ruben Östlund’s satire   Triangle of Sadness  doesn’t entirely run aground, one wishes that this immensely talented film-maker had shown a surer, lighter touch at the wheel. There are flashes of the incisive, caustic insight of his  Force Majeure  and Palme d’Or-winning art-world satire  The Square . But this rather laborious take on the excesses of capitalism, depicted as a luxury yacht headed inexorably for farcical disaster, lacks the pitiless ironic cool that made those two films so memorable.

While the film’s political analysis is undeniably pretty much on course, the engine chugs a little too laboriously for best effect

This film somewhat defeats its own rhetorical purpose by coming across as a prestige commodity, and while the polish is essential to its satirical intent, Triangle Of Sadness brings nothing substantially new to warrant the somewhat over-inflated execution. Nevertheless, brisk ensemble acting, some enjoyable moments – both sophisticated and heads-down crowd-pleasing – plus Östlund’s auteur status will steer this one safely to commercial and festival berths.

Told in three parts, with chapter headings, the film tilts at the world of privilege, and at the tradeable, sometime skin-deep values that act as an entree to it. One is beauty, as seen in an opening section in which a fashion host interviews a crowd of bare-chested young male models. One of them is Carl (Harris Dickinson), apparently seen as past his prime three years after a prestige ad campaign. He’s then shown with his girlfriend, fellow model Yaya (Charlbi Dean, nicely playing up the prickly poise), their meal at a high-toned restaurant devolving into an angry, circular argument about her casual willingness to let him pay for the meal, even though – something that clearly rankles with him – she’s the higher earner

The couple’s beautiful-people privilege is further explored in the film’s second section, set on a luxury yacht cruise – which they’ve been given for free, as Yaya is a successful influencer (who of course Instagrams herself ecstatically posing with her food, but wouldn’t dream of actually eating it). The cruise is an opportunity for Östlund to take some occasionally cutting, but increasingly scattershot jabs at capitalism and its malaises. The white-clad hospitality crew get a pep talk about pleasing the customers and getting juicy tips; “Money! Money!”, they all chant, before Östlund cuts to the below-decks crew of cleaners glumly huddled down below. Among the passengers is a spoilt Russian woman who bullies the crew into indulging her belief that “everyone is equal” – a motto repeatedly played for heavy irony – while a couple of charming elderly Brits turn out to be arms dealers (“Our best-selling product is a hand grenade”).

Things start to come undone on a stormy night, ill chosen for the official Captain’s Dinner – especially as the Marxist skipper (Woody Harrelson) is an out-of-control drunk who, uninterested in controlling the situation, would rather sit around trading political mottos with an equally boozy Eastern European fertiliser magnate (Zlatko Buric). What ensues has a pungent whiff of apocalyptic toilet farce; the gross-out factor not quite as funny as Östlund intended, although it does its job in reminding us that no amount of wealth will help you when it comes to rolling around on a slippery toilet floor.

The final chapter sees a handful of characters struggling to survive when washed up on an island shore – which is where the film makes its most incisive satiric point. Following the dictum “From each according to their abilities…”, the shipboard hierarchy is reversed, as toilet cleaner Abigail (Filipino actor Dolly de Leon, who cinephiles may recognise from her work with Lav Diaz) emerges as the one person equipped to take decisive action. That leads to her running the show as captain of this washed-up crew and exploiting her power by exercising  droit de seigneur  over a fellow castaway who is at first abashed by the situation, then learns to enjoy it.

A last-minute twist makes for a very black payoff, but it’s not quite enough to put the seal of originality on a familiar castaway scenario that has rather too familiar echoes of Lina Wertmüller’s  Swept Away , TV’s  Lost  and even antique British comedy  The Admirable Crichton .  It’s a set-up that, in its simplicity, has ample potential for re-exploration, but it’s the sheer deliberateness and over-emphasis of its treatment here that makes  Triangle  fall short of the piquancy of Östlund at his best.

There’s plenty to enjoy, though – whether it’s the absurdity of Harrelson and Buric duelling with political quotations (Marx for one, Ronald Reagan for the other), the close-ups of absurdly precious dinner dishes quivering on their plates, or sight gags such as the Tati-esque image of Harrelson standing at an oblique angle as the ship tilts to one side.

While the film’s political analysis is undeniably pretty much on course, the engine chugs a little too laboriously for best effect (you can imagine just what a snappy job Robert Altman, say, might have made of this situation). There’s some relishable acting: notably from Dickinson as an intelligent but directionless guy doomed to eternal pretty-boy status; De Leon, playing it canny and ruthless as Abigail takes the helm; and Buric, so memorable as the  Pusher  trilogy’s Copenhagen hood, as the blustering self-described ‘shit seller’. And Fredrik Wenzel’s cinematography elegantly plays up the contrast between the gorgeous and the ickily abject.

From shady brokers to thrill-seeking criminals, take notes on how to sail the ocean in style when you watch these films with luxury yachts!

Films With Luxury Yachts

When it comes to yachts, Martin Scorsese’s picture of former New York broker Jordan Belfort is one of the first that comes to mind. And all because the madman Belfort sank a ship in which, according to rumors, he invested two million and which once belonged to Coco Chanel herself.

The role of the legendary Nadine in the film went to the 45-meter yacht Lady M. A round jacuzzi on the deck, a barbecue area, underwater lighting, beige silk sofas, a real piano (it also starred in the movie) and five spacious cabins. You can ride this beauty Nauticat 33 if you have 120,000 dollars a week.

Murder Mystery , 2019

In 2019, a comedy detective was released on Netflix about how a married couple who bought a chip ticket to Europe unexpectedly receives an invitation from a mysterious billionaire – the hero needs to keep company on his famous yacht. This absurd story with Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in the lead roles was remembered by the audience for only two things: flat jokes and the main location.

The latest was a magnificent sixty-meter boat with the beautiful name Sarastar, which was built in 2017 in the Italian Mondomarina. It features a sunbathing area, a heliport, an outdoor patio and seven cabins designed by renowned Florentine designer Luca Dini. The approximate cost of Sarastar is 50 million euros.

Skyfall , 2012

A selection of films about beautiful yachts would be incomplete without mentioning the main on-screen fan of poking – agent 007. For example, a two-masted sailing schooner, on which Daniel Craig and Berenice Marlo rode in the Turkish Gulf of Fethiye. Now it is called Aria I, but before that it was called Regina. Almost immediately after filming in the multi-million dollar franchise, the boat was put up for sale (starting price – $ 14.2 million).

On board the 56-meter beauty is placed 10 guests and 8 crew members. They will not be bored: in addition to satellite TV, Wi-Fi and game consoles, there are also all kinds of water gadgets – wakeboards, kayaks, kayaks and jet skis. The winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2012 can be rented for an average of 65,000 euros per week.

luxury yacht films

Overboard , 2018

In 2018, a “reverse” remake of Gary Marshall’s classic film was released. The opposite – because now instead of the capricious millionaire Goldie Hawn, the main character has become a rich playboy Eugenio Derbez. And he fell overboard on his 50-meter yacht Aspen Alternative.

The vessel was built in 2010 by Trinity Yachts. The interior was created by British yacht designer Evan C. Marshall (and it even has Tiffany Blue pads). Do you want to follow the classic scenario and give such a girlfriend to your heroine? Easily. Now the boat is up for sale – pay $17,900,000 and tie a bow.

luxury yacht films

The Island , 2005

Michael Bay’s dystopia, which Universal spent $126 million on, flopped at the box office. But the frame has always remained in pop culture: the main characters (clones played by Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson) sail away into the sunset on a narrow, angular 118 WallyPower.

This futuristic 36-meter megayacht really exists, and is considered one of the fastest in its class. In 2005 she was the only boat in the San Francisco Contemporary Art Show. The interior and exterior of the vessel was handled by Luca Bassani, the founder of the marine design company Wally Yachts (hence the name). There is no data on its cost for 2020, but in 2012 $33 million was an acceptable amount.

Point Break , 2015

Another remake on our list is Erickson Core’s action film based on the 1991 film starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. An action-packed spectacular picture, stuffed with the most difficult tricks. Even in the frame, the 41-meter motor boat Ocean Emerald lit up.

This superyacht was built in 2006 by Rodriquez Yachts and updated in 2015. It looks very modern – British architect Lord Norman Foster is responsible for the design of the “Ocean Emerald” (this name is worth a lot in the yachting world). Pay 95,000 euros and this modern thing is yours for a week.

A unique two-hander that pits a lost seaman against a disturbingly menacing yacht, The Boat certainly doesn’t shy away from challenging plotting, but whether it can persuade horror fans that it’s worth a look in an increasingly crowded marketplace will require some very persuasive marketing, at the very least.

Not far from the Maltese port of Valetta, a local fisherman (Joe Azzopardi) sets out in his small outboard-motor-powered boat for a day on the water. Soon, however, a heavy fog drifts in, obscuring the shoreline and leaving him completely disoriented. A sudden collision with a drifting sailboat convinces him that he’s found safety, but boarding and searching the yacht, he finds it deserted. When he returns topside, his boat has disappeared, trapping him aboard the luxury vessel. The 40-foot Aeolus proves well-equipped and -provisioned, so he tries to raise Valetta’s port on the marine radio, but can’t make contact.

A routine trip to the latrine turns into a claustrophobic nightmare when the door jams, trapping him inside for hours listening to the sound of the boat taking on water as a freighter passes by without hailing him. When he finally breaks the door down and finds himself in waist-deep seawater, he takes drastic measures to get the bilge pumps running. Exhausted, he retreats below deck and crashes out in one of the private berths, only to find the door locked when he wakes up. Convinced that someone, or something, is somehow in control of the boat, the fisherman desperately tries to escape the Aeolus , as the yacht powers through the waves, mysteriously locked on autopilot and headed directly into a gathering storm.

The central Mediterranean region surrounding Malta is rich in both folklore and classic mythology, where the demigod Aeolus was considered the “keeper of the winds” in Homer’s Odyssey . Whether such a similarly influential entity controls the sailboat and the fate of the fisherman remains unclear, or perhaps he’s been imprisoned by some sadistic manipulator controlling the vessel remotely. The final frames partially reveal the filmmakers’ perspective, but by then their rather forced narrative allusions have been squandered over the course of the film.

Director Winston Azzopardi clearly knows his way around a luxury yacht, skillfully shooting in tight quarters whether above or below decks, and even inserting some modest special effects. Pacing is not his strong suit, however, and the script, co-written with Joe Azzopardi, becomes repetitive and predictable as the plotting quickly comes up against the physical limitations of the sailboat’s layout.

With very few spoken lines, Joe Azzopardi’s physical demeanor effectively conveys the fisherman’s confusion and desperation, but the lack of any clear narrative resolution lends scant significance to the role.

Woody harrelson captains a sinking ship in triangle of sadness trailer.

A brand-new trailer drops for the Ruben Östlund dark-comedy film and Palme d'Or winner Triangle of Sadness, which stars Woody Harrelson.

A brand-new trailer for Triangle of Sadness, the dark-comedy satire film and Palme d'Or winner from Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund and starring Woody Harrelson , releases. Alongside Harrelson, Triangle of Sadness features a supporting cast that includes Harris Dickinson ( The King's Man ), Charlbi Dean ( Black Lightning ), Vicki Berlin, Zlatko Burić, Oliver Ford Davies, Iris Berben, Dolly de Leon, Sunnyi Melles, and Henrik Dorsin. The story revolves around celebrity model couple Carl (Dickinson) and Yaya (Dean) as they're invited to join a luxury cruise for the extremely wealthy, helmed by an unhinged ship captain. However, things take a turn for the worse when the boat begins to capsize, and the passengers find themselves stranded on an island.

Now, a brand-new trailer for Triangle of Sadness released by NEON puts the spotlight on the eccentric passengers of the cruise ship and its captain, played by Harrelson. The trailer begins with Carl taking part in an uncomfortable photoshoot before he receives a free invitation to a yacht for the super-rich, where he and his influencer girlfriend Yaya are introduced to their snobby co-passengers and their flashy personalities. As the trailer progresses, what starts as an Instagram-ready adventure takes a dark turn, as a chain of bizarre, gross-out events ultimately conclude with the ship getting capsized. Check out the full trailer below:

Triangle of Sadness has generated plenty of buzz since its premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it received an eight-minute standing ovation. The film marked Östlund's second Palme d'Or win as well, after he first claimed the highly coveted prize for the 2014 drama film The Square, which featured The Handmaid's Tale star Elizabeth Moss and Dominic West. The acclaimed director's films are known for their striking commentary, which challenge social hierarchies, and the above trailer suggests that Triangle of Sadness will be looking to continue that trend. Audiences can check out Triangle of Sadness when the film makes its theatrical debut on October 7.

Beautiful movie locations you can visit by luxury yacht

From iconic Bond films to extravagant Hollywood blockbusters, superyachts have often played a starring role allowing us to imagine life aboard these luxury vessels. This time, it's the backdrop that takes the star billing as we embark on a cinematic journey, delving into some of the best superyacht destinations around the world that have featured in movies.

From sun-soaked Mediterranean havens to the exotic hideaways, here’s our top picks of some of the most popular superyacht destinations that have graced our screens over the years.

Spetses, Greece

The Lost Daughter

Just a two hours’ hop from Athens lies the charming pine-clad island of Spetses . Home to a raft of pretty beaches, rustic summer tavernas and vivid blue-green waters, the island created the picture-perfect setting for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s directorial debut The Lost Daughter , starring Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman as the inscrutable Leda.

Spetses' beautiful harbor in the Saronic Islands, Greece

Part of Greece ’s Saronic archipelago , the tiny island covers a mere 10 square miles, with most of the action concentrated on the charming black and white mosaic esplanade in its eponymous capital on the island’s east coast. Here, the town's narrow cobbled streets, awash with bustling cafes and bars that spill onto the pavements, meander around the gleaming white neoclassical red-roofed kapetanospita that line the scalloped harbor.

Spetses' beautiful harbor in the Saronic Islands, Greece

Sometimes referred to as the "Greek Monaco ", the island has played host to a number of prominent figures over the years. From Charles and Di, who spent part of their honeymoon here to the wedding of King Constantine’s son Prince Nicholas in 2010. With its dappled, pine-scented walkways and relaxed cafe vibe that ebbs and flows with the seasons, Spetses is quintessentially Greek, yet with perceptible influences from its Venetian and Ottoman rulers.

There is a summer bus that circles the island, however most people get around by bike or on foot. There are also a number of idyllic beaches only accessible by boat, including the whimsical Zogheria Beach where the majority of the filming took place, characterized by its gentle sloping sands and cool green waters.

For those looking for a little more glamor, Paradise Beach is run by the Poseidonion , an elegant hotel modeled on Cannes ’ famed Ritz Carlton Hotel, and boasts an excellent restaurant, perfect for a spot of lunch with stunning views across the water.

Destinations

Saronic Islands

Sicily, Italy

The Godfather

Italy’ s largest island boasts a veritable feast of cultural gems, however it is often for its more recent, darker past that lures visitors to its shores.

High in the hills of the Sicilian countryside is where you’ll find the iconic locations made famous by Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather trilogy, which form the backdrops for some of the movies’ most memorable scenes.

Beautiful town of Forza D'Agro in Sicily, Italy

Although the real Italian don’s family came from Corleone, filmmakers deemed the town too overcrowded to shoot the classic 1972 gangster movie, choosing to foreground the beautiful hilltop villages of Savoca and Forza d'Agrò instead.

There are limousine tours that take you and your guests from the harbor to Forzà d'Agrò near Taormina where many of the village scenes took place. Here you can visit the pretty Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the Convent of the Frati Minori Cappuccini featuring an underground crypt.

Some of the most memorable scenes take place in the small medieval commune of Savoca, where Godfather aficionados will instantly recognize Bar Vitelli, where Michael Corleone told Apollonia’s father who he really was as he declared his intention to marry his daughter.

The now instagram-worthy backdrops where the Corleone family et al ate, drank and worshiped remain largely unchanged today as you learn all about the years of tyrannical rule under the Siciian mafia, which has mercifully ceased to exert its influence over the beautiful Italian island.

Sicily

Modriki Island, Fiji

Located a mere champagne cork’s pop away from Fiji ’s largest island of Viti Levu , the tiny one-kilometer wide island of Monuriki is, quite simply, breathtaking. If you closed your eyes and imagined what paradise might look like, I would imagine it would look something like this.

Modriki Island, Fiji

Forming part of the Mamanuca Island group in the South Pacific Ocean, the tiny isle is home to stretches of bone white sands and stunning natural beauty that formed the backdrop for the Robert Zemeckis film Cast Away , starring Tom Hanks (and a basketball called Wilson). Surrounded by coral reefs, the island is the ideal jumping off point for excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities.

film about luxury yacht

Fiji is its own utopian getaway, made up of an array of island groups awash with palm-strewn beaches surrounded by pellucid blue waters teeming with tropical marine flora and fauna. The volcanic islands also offer up a stunning tableau of lush interiors, welcoming locals and upscale resorts for a spot of heavenly pampering.

Fiji

Skopelos, Greece

Part of the Sporades archipelago in the Aegean Sea, Skopelos is a small island awash with lush pine-scented trails, gleaming whitewashed buildings and cool blue-green waters. It was these qualities that inspired Mamma Mia ’s film’s producers, instantly catapulting the island into the limelight upon the movie’s release.

Beautiful Skopelos island- traditional fishing village Neo Klima, Greece.

Some of the most prominent landmarks that feature in the movie are the iconic chapel perched high on a rocky precipice at Agios Ioannis , as well as the beautiful beaches at Kastani and Glysteri . There are, of course, Mamma Mia! tours on offer, however chartering your own private crewed yacht is infinitely preferable, where you can cruise the different locations at your own pace while enjoying top notch service and luxury amenities.

film about luxury yacht

Quintessentially Greek, Skopleos feels a million miles away from the hedonistic party islands of Mykonos and Santorini . Instead, there is a serene, relaxed vibe, with the main hub of Skopelos Town providing the bulk of the action. Featuring scores of dazzling white dwellings topped with terracotta tiles and splashes of vibrant bougainvillea, you will be instantly charmed from the moment you step ashore.

Glen Coe, Scotland

Characterized by its cloud-wrapped conical peaks and heather-strewn landscapes, Glen Coe is perhaps the best known of Scotland 's Highland glens. Providing the majestic mountainous backdrop for James Bond’s ancestral home “Skyfall” in the eponymous film, the misty glens of Glen Coe are a superlative example of nature at its finest.

Glen Coe in Scotland

Split, Croatia

The Weekend Away

The beautiful and historic Croatian city of Split was the location du jour for the 2022 Netflix thriller The Weekend Away , starring Leighton Meester as a new mother who embarks on a weekend retreat with her best friend, before things quickly begin to unravel after her friend is found dead and she becomes the prime suspect.

Split in Croatia

Although filmed across a number of locations throughout Croatia , the sun-kissed city of Split was the predominant scene-stealer. Featuring an array of architecture covering the medieval, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, as well as a number of UNESCO Heritage Sites, including the Roman-built Diocletian’s Palace that also enjoyed a star billing on the Game of Thrones , the coastal hotspot is often known for its moniker “Croatia’s jewel in the crown” for good reason.

Diocletian's Palace in Split, Croatia

Abounding in historic gems – with the ancient palace forming the living heart of Split’s Old Town – Croatia’s second-largest city also offers easy access to prestigious art galleries, high-end restaurants, trendy bars and beautiful beaches to keep you and your guests entertained.

Ischia, Italy

The Talented Mr Ripley

Locally known as Isola Verde, or the Green Isle, Ischia ’s vertiginous green-topped hills,  picturesque towns and bougainvillea-draped landscapes offered the perfect backdrop for Patricia Highsmith’s global bestseller turned hit movie The Talented Mr Ripley , a psychological thriller starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. The island also featured in the 1963 historical drama Cleopatra , starring Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.

Island of Ischia in Italy

While a number of locations along Italy's famed Amalfi Coast were used in the movie, Ischia is arguably one of the prettiest.

Renowned for its thermal springs and manicured gardens, the volcanic isle of Ischia is the largest island in the bay of Naples , but with an authentic italian air that belies its proximity to its more glitzy sister Capri .

film about luxury yacht

With speeding vespas, bursts of effusive greetings and arm-folding nonna's leant against door frames, Ischia’s made-in-Italy appeal is clear to see. With numerous stretches of unspoilt beaches and lively towns each with their own characteristics – from its commercial heart of Ischia Porto to the old-world vibe of Ischia Ponte – the island is a haven for anyone hankering after a true taste of Italy.

For those that prefer the finer things in life, the island still boasts an array of luxury offerings to please the most discerning traveler, with fine dining, 5-star hotels and exclusive nightlife all readily available.

Statue on the island of Ischia in Italy

The island also offers plenty of pursuits; from enjoying a gelato along the pretty marina at Lacco Ameno and trekking up Mount Epomeo to strolling across to the iconic medieval castle of Aragonese , which sits on its own volcanic rock formation, accessible via a footbridge.

For incredible sunset views, Madonna del Soccorso ’s whitewashed hilltop church is the place to be. Meanwhile, a stroll through the picturesque (and carless) fishing village of Sant’Angelo is a must while visiting the island.

Woody Harrelson Helms a Yacht for the Ultra-Rich in Triangle of Sadness

NEON has released the trailer for Triangle of Sadness, a comedic, nauseating satire of the ultra-rich and famous.

'The ship is going under.' Watch Woody Harrelson helm a $250 million luxury yacht for the uber-rich in the new trailer for Triangle of Sadness from Neon. Harris Dickinson stars in the film, which sees him as a male model at the prime of his career. He makes his way to the massive super yacht, and things are going excellent until the gross-out, over-the-top shenanigans that will ensue in the movie.

Despite receiving the Palme d'Or, Triangle of Sadness sparked walkouts at the Cannes Film Festival, according to The Age . One 15-minute scene involves graphic vomiting and defecation following some gooey oysters, champagne, and a fair amount of sea sickness. You catch a small glimpse of it in the trailer, but the full-fledged version is sure to be too much for some audiences.

Triangle of Sadness will be the third film in a row to be a Palme d'Or winner for Neon, following Titane and Parasite . The movie makes its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month before sailing into theaters on Oct 7. Watch the brand-new, excessively nauseating trailer below.

Director Ruben Östlund is Looking to Widen His Audience

Ruben Östlund is the filmmaker behind Triangle of Sadness , and he's had success in the industry before. However, until now, Östlund was prominent in European arthouse cinema, with foreign language films to his credit thus far. The director is making a big jump to a film primarily in English. The director wants to broaden his audience and bring his movies to a global scale while maintaining his initial fan base. He tells IndieWire , 'it's been very important to try to keep that audience and step it up, make it a little bit bigger, of course.'

"My intention was to shock the audience as much as I always want to shock the audience. But I was scared to lose my old audience. I was scared to lose the kind of connection I had built up with the distributors of the European arthouse cinema. It's been very important for me to try to keep that audience and step it up, make it a little bit bigger, of course."

Östlund is no stranger to the Palme d'Or either, as he's won in the past for his film The Square starring Elisabeth Moss . The movie received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year, proving that the director can consistently make great projects. Audiences are hoping for something just as hysterical when Triangle of Sadness lands in theaters later this year, on Oct 7.

Film: Live and Let Die (1973)

James Bond boats

A true Bond classic, the Glastron GT-150 featured in Live and Let Die takes us back to the ’70s in all its glory. Bond’s sleek escape from Mr. Big’s henchmen was nothing short of breathtaking. With a white and orange colour scheme, this boat was the epitome of style at the time. Its aerodynamic design, complete with a sliding windshield, and the ability to pop up on its hydrofoils for a high-speed chase made it an unforgettable addition to the Bond universe.

Estimated Cost: Around USD 5,000 (in 1973)

2. The Wetbike

Film: The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)

James Bond boats

For a change of pace, Bond took to the water on a Wetbike in The Spy Who Loved Me . This one-man jet ski not only allowed Bond to move swiftly across the water but also had the added bonus of turning into a mini-submarine when needed. The Wetbike was the perfect gadget for an underwater adventure and showed Bond’s adaptability in any situation. It was an actual (and pretty powerful!) watercraft introduced in 1978, which only goes to show how Bond was always ahead of his time with the latest technology.

Estimated Cost: Approximately USD 3,000 (in 1977)

3. The Q Boat

Film: The World Is Not Enough (1999)

James Bond boats

The Q Boat in The World Is Not Enough is a masterpiece of espionage engineering. Packed with hidden torpedoes, machine guns, and an ejector seat (courtesy of Q, of course), this unassuming boat became Bond’s weapon of choice in a high-speed pursuit along the Thames. This vessel, a creation by Doug Riddle, boasts a 300 bhp V8 engine that drives a jet propulsion system. And for that extra touch of Hollywood flair, it’s equipped with two rear-mounted faux jets that ignite into blazing flames. Its sleek design and arsenal of gadgets made it a standout addition to the Bond arsenal. The 14-minute (Q) boat chase in the pre-credit opening sequence of the film is the longest in 007 history.

Estimated Cost: USD 37,500 (As of 2022)

4. The Spirit 54 Yacht

Film: Casino Royale (2006)

Bond 007

When Bond needs a break from saving the world, he heads to the Bahamas aboard the Spirit 54 Yacht in Casino Royale . This stunning wooden yacht, with its classic lines and luxurious interior, perfectly complements Bond’s quiet moments with Vesper Lynd. It’s a symbol of elegance and sophistication, reminding us that even spies need a little downtime.

Estimated Cost: USD 1.5 million (in 2006)

In Quantum of Solace , Bond commandeers the Sunseeker Sovereign 17, a luxury motor yacht that perfectly embodies the blend of speed, style, and substance that the Bond franchise is known for. This yacht’s sleek design and powerful engines allowed Bond to chase down villains in a breathtaking finale in Italy ‘s waters. The Sunseeker Sovereign became a symbol of Bond’s ability to tackle danger with flair.

From high-speed pursuits to tranquil moments on the open seas, these boats have added an extra layer of intrigue and glamour to the world of James Bond. As we eagerly anticipate the next instalment in the iconic franchise, one thing is for sure: Bond’s aquatic adventures will continue to be the stuff of legend, with boats that are as suave and unforgettable as the spy himself. Originally built in 1970, the Sunseeker Sovereign 17 was fully restored in 2005 to celebrate the company’s early years and long history of designing and building luxury motor yachts.

Estimated Cost: Approximately USD 4.5 million (in 2008)

6. ‘Delos’ (ex ‘Aurora’)

Film: From Russia With Love (1963)

007

Not only did the 293-foot Delos serve as the iconic Spectre headquarters in the 1963 classic From Russia with Love , marking Sean Connery’s second portrayal of the suave 007, but it also played an unexpected role as the inspiration behind the beloved TV series The Love Boat , as revealed by its current owner, Christopher Wilson.

Originally named ‘Wappen von Hamburg,’ this remarkable German-built cruise ship was constructed in 1955 by the renowned Blohm & Voss Shipyard. Initially designed as a luxurious 75m, diesel-powered motor yacht, it was built for one of the owners of an Italian motor car manufacturer. The ‘Wappen von Hamburg’ featured state-of-the-art engineering and had a top speed of 20 knots. In its original configuration, it accommodated up to 22 guests in 11 opulent cabins, along with staff quarters, a bar, an entertainment lounge, a games room, and a gym.

After serving in the Mediterranean Sea, the Aurora underwent an extensive 18-month refit to bring her into the 21st century. During this transformation, her length was increased by 8.7 metres, her beam stretched to 13.93 metres, and her gross weight increased by 40%.

As of 2020, M/Y Aurora was reported to be located in Sochi, Russia, where it serves as a luxurious hotel, private club, and business centre, showcasing its storied history to a new generation of enthusiasts.

Estimated cost: Priceless, considering its unique history and transformation.

7. ‘Kingdom 5KR’ (ex ‘Nabila’)

Film: Never Say Never Again (1983)

007

Back in 1980, the illustrious MY Flying Saucer had its origins as a vessel commissioned by the Saudi arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi and crafted by Benetti. However, its journey didn’t stop there; it soon found itself in the glamorous world of Hollywood alongside the legendary Sean Connery in the 1983 film Never Say Never Again . Following its cinematic debut, the MY Flying Saucer underwent a series of remarkable transformations. First, it came under the ownership of the Sultan of Brunei, who later sold it to none other than Donald Trump, leading to its rechristening as the “Trump Princess.”

As time flowed on, in 1991, the boat found itself under the patronage of another Saudi billionaire tycoon, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal. With its new name, “Kingdom 5KR,” this magnificent vessel became a fixture, almost permanently moored in the enchanting locale of Antibes on the sun-kissed Côte d’Azur. Thus, MY Flying Saucer’s remarkable journey through both Hollywood and high-profile ownerships adds yet another layer to its storied history.

The yacht was built in 1980 by the yacht builder Benetti at a cost of USD 100 million (equivalent to USD 355 million in 2022). Its original interior was designed by Luigi Sturchio. According to reports, the yacht can reach a top speed of 20 knots and has a cruising speed of 17 knots, with a range of 8,500 nautical miles. With a gross tonnage of 1768.0 GT and a beam of 13.23 m, the vessel comfortably accommodates 22 guests in 11 staterooms and 31 crew members.

Estimated cost: A whopping USD 500 million. (2022)

8. ‘Trafalgar’ (ex ‘Moonmaiden II’)

Film: The Living Daylights (1987)

James bond 007

In the pre-title sequence of the action-packed 1987 film The Living Daylights , Timothy Dalton made his unforgettable debut as the suave and daring secret agent, James Bond. And while his mission to board the Moonmaiden II yacht was anything but conventional, it undoubtedly added to the film’s thrilling charm. In a fiery entrance, Bond descends from the sky via parachute, landing squarely on the aft deck of the Moonmaiden II. It’s safe to say that Agent 007 rarely opts for the ordinary when there’s an opportunity for cinematic flair.

Fast forward to the present day, and the Moonmaiden II, now rechristened as “Trafalgar,” is on the lookout for a new owner. This classic canoe-stern yacht, hailing from the stylish era of the 1970s, boasts timeless appeal and is currently available for acquisition through Ocean Independence. With an asking price of USD 2,500,000, this vessel offers not only a piece of cinematic history but also the promise of exciting adventures on the high seas.

Estimated cost: USD 2,500,000 million

9. Pruva Regina

Film: SkyFall (2012)

james bond 007 boats

In SkyFall , Daniel Craig’s James Bond and Severine (Bérénice Marlohe) sail aboard the stunning Pruva Regina yacht, gliding through Turkey’s sapphire waters. This actual superyacht is a 183-ft schooner built in Turkey by Pruva Yachting in 2011. Regina boasts a maximum speed of 12 knots and can accommodate 12 guests in two master suites, two double staterooms, and two twin cabins, along with a crew of nine. This James Bond yacht was listed for sale in 2012 for a princely sum of USD 14 million. And here’s a fun fact: the shower scene, supposedly taking place aboard the yacht, was actually filmed in room 712 of the Four Seasons Hotel at Canary Wharf in London.

From high-speed pursuits to serene moments on open waters, these boats have added an extra layer of intrigue and glamour to the world of James Bond. As we eagerly anticipate the next chapter in this iconic franchise, one thing remains certain: Bond’s nautical adventures will continue to be legendary, with boats as suave and unforgettable as the spy himself.

Estimated cost: USD 14 million (2012)

02 Jan The Top 4 Best Movie Yachts

Best movie yachts to look for in 2021.

Miami Party Yacht – Luxury yachts are to Hollywood blockbusters as baseball is to America.

It can be easy to get lost in the fantasy of Hollywood special effects, but sometimes what catches our eyes isn’t the dazzling CGI, it’s the luxury displayed in the world that seems unattainable to the average eye. We have composed a list of the top 4 best movie yachts that had us daydreaming about submerging ourselves into the plot (no matter how dangerous it was).

The best part about this list, and why we decided to share it with you, is that you don’t need to be an international super spy, a conman in the bustling cubicles of Wall Street, or a Hollywood agent looking for his next client.

These yachts, and many other boating options are readily available for your enjoyment with Water Fantaseas. Although not exactly the yachts you may see on this list, we have many luxury options that will take your next leisurely weekend afternoon, or special event with friends and family, to the next level.

Goldeneye, 1995

To be clear, this list does not have a specific order. How could I possibly be tasked with choosing which of these four yachts are the best, it’s impossible.

Luxury yachts have been a quintessential aspect of 007 films since the first film, Dr. No, was released in 1962. Since then, the super spy has taken many forms, as well as taking many rides on best movie yachts (even if sometimes he barely makes it out alive).

This luxury yacht, named the Northern Cross, sleeps up to 12 guest and is a whopping 43m! Needless to say, this yacht will take a regular Saturday afternoon on the sea into a luxurious new realm.

Wolf of Wall Street , 2013

Known as “Lady M” in the narrative of the film, this luxury yacht was built to withstand even the most alluring con man in New York City. And unlike the yacht in the film, this superyacht does not sink.

This boat was built to entertain. Standing at 44m, and with a capacity to sleep 10 guest, Lady M navigates the open sea like a charm. Luckily, Water Fantaseas offers many options just like Lady M that you’ll want to throw a party to rival Leonardo DiCaprio’s.

Casino Royale, 2006

No, M3 is not the name of a high-operative superspy in 2006 ’s 007  reboot,  Casino Royale , it is the name of this ultra-luxurious yacht actor Daniel Craig got the privilege to ride in.

This motor yacht was built for ultimate  speed and comfort.

With a capacity to sleep up to 8 guest in fou r comfortable cabins, this motor yacht has everything needed to explore Miami in ultimate style.

Entourage , 2015

What more could you expect from the hit HBO TV series turned big-screen-adaptation?

Hollywood’s elite  have never traveled in better luxury. This 47m award-winning superyacht, known as the USHER,  is perfect for a yacht party built for the likes of Hollywood’s elite.

Lucky for you, Water Fantaseas offers options that’ll make you worth of making Vincent Chase’s guest list.

Thank you very much for sharing, I learned a lot from your article. Very cool. Thanks. nimabi

Diddy’s Son King Combs Hit With Lawsuit Alleging He Sexually Assaulted Staffer On Luxury Yacht

The rapper himself is also named as a defendant in the case, which claims he "encouraged an environment of debauchery" that enabled his son's behavior.

Sean "Diddy" Combs and Christian Combs

Sean “Diddy” Combs and his son Christian “King” Combs are facing a new lawsuit claiming the younger Combs sexually assaulted a staffer on a luxury yacht in the Caribbean.

Lawyer for Lizzo's Dancers Calls Out Singer Following 'I Quit' Post, Says It's an 'Outburst Seeking…

“Prior to being sexually assaulted by defendant Christian Combs, plaintiff planned to work the entirety of her career in hospitality and the yachting industry,” O’Marcaigh’s attorneys write. “Unfortunately, those plans have been derailed due to the trauma plaintiff continues to have as a result of the assault.”

Trending on Billboard

In addition to those two cases, Combs has been hit with a slew of other allegations of sexual assault and other wrongdoing over the past six months, including a quickly-settled case filed by his ex-girlfriend Cassie and a still-pending lawsuit filed a woman who claims Combs raped her when she was 17. The rapper is also facing an apparent federal criminal investigation, which led to raids of his homes last month . Combs has strongly denied all allegations of wrongdoing.

In the new lawsuit, O’Marcaigh claims that Christian Combs arrived to the chartered yacht via smaller boat at 5 am on Dec. 28, 2022. She says he then “insisted” that she take shots of tequila, which she quickly came to suspect had been spiked with drugs. After she attempted to exit the situation, O’Marcaigh says he “violently” grabbed her and began to grope and assault her.

Because Jones was present and recording, O’Marcaigh says she has a recording in which she tells the younger Combs “excuse me, you don’t touch my legs like that” and “you can take your hand off my ass.”

Later in the same evening, O’Marcaigh says Combs demanded that she find him a place to sleep. When she took him to the yacht’s cinema, she says he “blocked her from exiting,” then “became physical and aggressive” even as she “pushed him back constantly.”

“Defendant C. Combs then took off all of his clothes,”  O’Marcaigh’s attorney says. “His penis was erect, and he grabbed her arms and was trying to force plaintiff to perform oral copulation on him.”

The lawsuit does not claim that the elder Combs participated in the assault. But she says he orchestrated a “coverup” that resulted in her eventual firing from her job. And she says he bears ultimate responsibility for his son’s actions because he chartered the yacht.

“Defendant S. Combs fostered and encouraged an environment of debauchery,” O’Marcaigh’s attorneys write. “He intentionally created an unsafe environment that gave license to [Christian] to believe that he was free to sexually assault plaintiff.”

A representative for Sean Combs did not immediately return a request for comment.

Luxury Tech Brand Kaleidescape Expands Into Cinema Business With Service to Bring Library Titles to Theaters (EXCLUSIVE)

Kaleidescape

Luxury home entertainment tech company Kaleidescape — which develops and sells high-tech movie players and servers that deliver studio content to homes — is expanding into the cinema business with a sort of “on demand” service for library titles.

In doing so it aims to make older titles more accessible in theaters and open up ancillary revenue opportunities for content owners and exhibitors by attracting more moviegoers.

Per the plan, Mountain View, Calif.-based Kaleidescape would sell its hardware to theater owners, prep and supply the encrypted content, and “not take a cut so all the economics stays between the studio and the exhibitor,” explains Morgan.

Alamo, Brenden, B&B Theatres, Cinema West, Classic Cinemas, Epic, Megaplex and Star Cinema Grill are scheduled to participate in a pilot program for the new service. Morgan adds that Kaleidescape has signed its first major studio content provider though she declined to name the studio.

“It really is cinema on demand; it gives you access to a huge library [while streamlining] bookings and fulfillment,” Chris Johnson, CEO of Classic Cinemas, tells Variety . He adds while library titles are not his company’s core business, even a small percentage of its business is “still a lot of extra revenue.” He’s found that creating themes can generate excitement around library titles. For instance, he says a year ago Classic Cinemas offered the early Indiana Jones movies before “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” was released.

Kaleidescape is also teaming with cinema tech developer GDC, which plans to integrate Kaleidescape’s service into its GoGoCinema app.

Revolutionizing Luxury Yacht Design: Why Smart Film is a Game-Changer

Yachts are luxury spaces that need privacy to match the premium interior design and elegance that they offer. Privacy is a key aspect of any yacht and to meet this requirement, the innovative technology of smart glass and smart film is the perfect solution.

The luxury yacht industry has always been synonymous with elegance, sophistication, and exclusivity. Every inch of a yachts' interior is expertly crafted to exude opulence and refinement. However, privacy has always been a challenge for yacht owners and their guests. Traditional window treatments such as curtains and blinds can mar the beauty of a yacht's interior and compromise the overall aesthetic.

Smart glass and film are quickly becoming the go-to solution for prestigious yachts and owners. With the mere touch of a button, the glass or film can switch from frosted to clear, offering unparalleled privacy and convenience.

Less Clutter, More Convenience

Conventional curtains and blinds create noise and are awkward to operate on boats. However, privacy is important for boat owners- especially when docked and doing overnight trips. Switchable glass and film offer an amazing privacy solution in luxury environments, which can change from frosted to clear at the press of a button. Smart film and glass can be switched from transparent to opaque with a remote, smartphone, switch, button or even voice command.

Minimalist Interior Design

Smart Glass Country provides the ultimate in luxury privacy solutions to complement most premium interiors and designs with style. Guests are always wowed when they see the glass go from clear to frosted on demand.

Retrofit Existing Yacht Windows

While smart glass can be custom manufactured and installed on any yacht window, most customers find it easier to apply smart film to their yacht windows. Smart film can be installed on any yacht window with ease by applying it to glass windows, partitions and doors. Smart film can be retrofitted to any existing glass surface, transforming it into a switchable glass at an affordable cost.

Cut the Glare From Sunlight

As with most yacht owners, one must consider the blocking of sunlight when necessary. Shutters are common, but the most innovative technology for a luxury yacht is switchable smart glass. Direct exposure to UV and Infrared radiation is harmful to the yacht’s floors and furniture, and can age the interior of any yacht. Privacy glass and film block 99% of harmful UV rays and 99% of infrared radiation, thus protecting the passengers and the yacht itself.

Value-Added

Smart glass and film are not only aesthetically and functionally superior, but they also offer a value-added proposition. The installation of these technologies is a factor in increasing the value of super yachts, making them an excellent investment for owners.

Suitable for Marine Environments

While switchable film and glass do use electricity to go from clear to frosted, they can be used in humid or wet environments without concern. The film and the glass simply need to be sealed along the edges with a non acetic silicone gel.

‍ Low Maintenance

Moreover, maintenance of smart glass and film is a breeze, unlike traditional window treatments that require constant cleaning and maintenance. Cleaning smart glass is as simple as cleaning regular glass, with a soft cloth and glass cleaner.

In conclusion, smart glass technology offers multiple advantages to yacht owners. Its clean look, combined with its ability to provide instant privacy, make it the perfect solution for any yacht. It is a premium technology that enhances the luxurious experience of owning a yacht, providing a unique and cutting-edge solution to privacy. Yacht owners seeking a high-quality privacy solution should consider Switchable Smart Glass and Film, which will provide the perfect balance of style and function.

Upgrade to smart glass and film, and experience the pinnacle of sophistication and elegance. Contact Smart Glass Country today to enhance your yacht interior design with privacy on demand.

Sean Combs’ Son Sued for Alleged Sex Assault on Yacht

Sean “Diddy” Combs and his youngest son, Christian “King” Combs, 26, have been named in a new lawsuit that accuses the younger Combs of sexually assaulting a woman who was working on a luxury yacht chartered by the Combs family for a 2022 winter trip in St. Martin.

The 31-page complaint, filed late Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, comes after a recent series of lawsuits alleging that Sean Combs , 54, sexually assaulted four women and one man on separate occasions between 1990 and 2023. Combs, whose homes were raided last week as part of a federal sex trafficking probe, has denied the allegations, calling them shakedowns.

She claims Christian forcefully grabbed her arm, prevented her from leaving the sundeck, and forced her to take another shot. “Plaintiff was quite scared and realized she was in a very dangerous situation,” the paperwork states, adding that O’Marcaigh began to feel strange and “quickly suspected the tequila was spiked.” O’Marcaigh alleges Christian then proceeded to kiss her neck and face as he groped her legs, breasts, anus, and vagina.

According to the lawsuit, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones, a music producer who filed a separate sex trafficking lawsuit against Sean Combs in February, was present on the yacht as a collaborator with Diddy and recorded some of the exchange. The audio recording purportedly captures O’Marcaigh asking if she was being drugged and requesting that Christian stop touching her legs and “ass.”

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

According to the lawsuit, the incident was “deeply traumatizing” for O’Marcaigh, leading to the breakup of her relationship with her partner and a “deep depression.”

Christian is accused of assault, battery, sexual assault, and intentional infliction of emotional distress in the lawsuit, while Sean Combs is accused of aiding and abetting the behavior and premises liability as the lease-holder on the yacht.

Drake Bell Explains Why He Pleaded Guilty to Felony Child Endangerment

Filmmaker john ridley, abc, and disney named as defendants in discrimination lawsuit, new video footage of sean combs raid shows sons’ detainment.

Combs’ accused drug “mule” Brendan Paul was present on the yacht, once allegedly telling O’Marcaigh that he had to “watch Combs have sex with multiple women,” in case Combs “needed him to get him something while he was in the middle of the act.” Paul was the only known person arrested during the raids, taken away from Miami-Opa Locka airport in handcuffs, charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana.

Christian, whose mother, Kim Porter, died in 2018, made headlines last week when he was detained alongside older brother Justin Combs, 30, during the raid on their dad’s Los Angeles compound. Photos obtained by Rolling Stone showed him handcuffed outside his dad’s Holmby Hills mansion. He was later released. (A second raid was carried out simultaneously at Combs’ compound in Miami.)

Justin’s mother, Misa Hylton, shared new video from the surprise search in an Instagram post on Tuesday. One grainy clip appeared to show Christian being handcuffed up against an interior wall. Another clip showed Justin walking toward agents with his hands on his head and guns pointed at his chest.

“The over zealous and overtly militarized force used against my sons Justin and Christian is deplorable,” Misa Hylton wrote. “If these were the sons of a non-Black celebrity, they would not have been handled with the same aggression.”

Federal officials have yet to disclose the exact basis for the search warrants, saying only that they were served as part of an “ongoing investigation” involving Homeland Security agents out of New York. A source tells  Rolling Stone  that  four Jane Does and one John Doe already sat for interviews with Southern District of New York investigators for a probe related to alleged sex trafficking.

One week later, as New York’s Adult Survivors Act was set to expire, two more women stepped forward on Thanksgiving Day with similarly disturbing claims against Combs. The second accuser alleged  Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her  when she was a Syracuse University student in 1991. The woman claimed Combs filmed the incident and showed the video to others in an act described as “revenge porn.” Through a rep, Combs denied the allegation. “This last-minute lawsuit is an example of how a well-intentioned law can be turned on its head. [This] 32-year-old story is made up and not credible. Mr. Combs never assaulted her, and she implicates companies that did not exist. This is purely a money grab and nothing more,” the spokesperson said.

The Far Right Is Crawling With Eclipse Conspiracy Theories

Ted cruz is getting nervous he’s going to lose his senate seat, jojo siwa is all grown up on new single 'karma', willie nelson thinks queer message in orville peck video is 'more important than ever'.

In early December, a fourth accuser alleged Combs, former Bad Boy president Harve Pierre, and a third man  gang raped her at Combs’ New York recording studio in 2003  when she was 17 years old. In late February, Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones  filed a lawsuit  accusing Combs of sexual assault, harassment, and not compensating him for work on the Grammy-nominated  The Love Album .

Robb Report's Best Luxury Station Wagons

The station wagon hasn’t been prevalent on U.S. roads for decades now, but the body style still has some life left in it. We have Europe to thank for the estate car’s continued presence here, especially when it comes to the luxury market. Marques like Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volvo continue to bring long-roof models to our shores, much to our delight. They’ve also, in recent years, finally started bringing over the high-performance wagons enthusiasts have long coveted but never dreamed they’d get, like the Audi RS 6 Avant Performance and Mercedes-AMG AMG E63 S Estate . The options aren’t exactly plentiful—although more are on the way—but there’s enough choice out there to find the perfect wagon for you.

With that in mind, here are the best six luxury station wagons you can buy today:

— Best Overall: Audi A6 Allroad and RS 6 Avant Performance — Best Electric Option: Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo — Best Powertrain Options: Volvo V60 Cross Countr y — Best Looking: Mercedes-Benz E Class Wagon — Best SUV Alternative: Volvo V90 Cross Country — Best Value for Your Buck: Audi A4 Allroad

Best Overall: Audi A6 Allroad and RS 6 Avant Performance

RS6 Avant Performance

No automaker seems more committed to the idea of the performance wagon than Audi. The German marque has been building the kind of longroofs enthusiasts lust after since the 1980s. There’s no model that fits this bill stateside right now better than the RS 6 Avant Performance , which is the range-topping version of the A6 wagon. Sure, like all Audis it doesn’t have a design that inspires, but its engine is more than noteworthy enough to make up for that. It’s powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that generates a brutish 621 hp and 627 ft lbs of power, which is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to all that oomph, this wagon can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 155 mph, two numbers that help explain why this thing costs over $125,000.

In Production Since:  1994 Top Powertrain Option: Twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 Power:  621 hp and 627 ft lbs of torque Zero to 60 mph:  3.3 seconds Top Speed:  155 mph Starting Price: $69,300 ($125,800 for the RS Avant Performance

Best Electric Option: Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo

Porsche lost a wagon model when the model year calendar flipped from 2023 to 2024, but the one that is left is still pretty impressive—and the only fully electric option you can currently buy in the U.S. As has been the case now, the automaker offers four Taycan wagons, each of which carry the Cross Turismo name. Although each is impressive, the pick of the quartet is the Turbo S Cross Turismo, which in classic Porsche Turbo fashion is a beast. It’s two E-Performance electric motors combine to produce a hair-raising 938 horses and 818 ft lbs of torque. Thanks to that this all-wheel-drive speed machine can hit 60 mph in under three seconds. Yes, under three seconds.

In Production Since:  2019 Top Powertrain Option:  Dual permanently excited synchronous powertrain motors Power:  930 hp and 774 ft lbs of torque Zero to 60 mph:  2.4 seconds Top Speed:  155 mph Starting Price: $111,100

Best Powertrain Options: Volvo V60 Cross Country

Volvo V60 Cross Country

They may not be the sexiest of automakers, but if you’re in the market for a wagon Volvo’s long had you covered. The Swedish marque currently sells two wagons, the first of which is the “compact” V60 . It’s basically the same Volvo wagon you may have been driven to school in as a kid but with a smoother, less boxy shape. The V60 comes in two flavors: the Cross Country and the Recharge. They’re the same except that the Recharge is a plug-in hybrid that sits lower to the ground (the Cross Country is gas-powered). Its electrified powertrain pairs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric motor that combines to generate 455 hp and 523 ft lbs of torque, allowing the vehicle to sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 4.3 seconds. On top of this, the electric motor gives it an all-electric range of 41 miles and helps boost fuel economy to 31 miles per gallon.

In Production Since:  2010 Top Powertrain Option:  Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and electric motor Power:  455 hp and 523 ft lbs of torque Zero to 60 mph:  4.3 seconds Top Speed:  114 mph Starting Price: $50,300

Best Looking: Mercedes-Benz E Class Wagon

Mercedes-Benz E Class Wagon

Mercedes-Benz wasn’t about to let Audi have all the wagon fun. Last year, the luxury marque announced that it was bringing a long-roof version of the redesigned E-Class to the U.S. Two models are available, the E450 4Matic All Terrain and the AMG E63 S Estate, which both pair a sleek design with a potent powertrain. This is especially true of the latter, which is powered by a handcrafted twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that produces 603 hp and 627 ft lbs of torque. The model’s 16-mpg city mileage leaves something to be desired but the ability to get to 60 mph in and hit a top speed of 186 mph helps make up for that.

In Production Since:  1993 Top Powertrain Option:  Twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 Power:  603 hp and 627 ft lbs of torque Zero to 62 mph:  3.9 seconds Top Speed:  186 mph Starting Price: $71,250 ($113,950)

Best SUV Alternative: Volvo V90 Cross Country

Volvo V90 Cross Country

The bigger of Volvo’s two wagons, the V90 Cross Country , is a mid-size option for drivers who want to always have plenty of cargo room at the ready. In the case of this surprisingly stylish wagon, that means you’ll have access to 69 cubic feet of room which is more than enough for most of us. It’s not a performance wagon by any stretch of the imagination, but thanks to its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a mild hybrid system it can still hit 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. And, as the “Cross Country” part of its name may have given away, it has all-wheel drive.

In Production Since:  2016 Top Powertrain Option:  TK Power:  295 hp and 310 ft lbs of torque Zero to 60 mph:  6.1 seconds Top Speed:  112 mph Starting Price: $59.800

Best Value for Your Buck: Audi A4 Allroad

Audi A4 Allroad

The Audi A4 Allroad may be the least expensive model on this list, but that doesn’t make it a compromise. The first of the German marque’s two wagon models is a compact luxury vehicle that has all the gear it needs for some off-road fun. The wagon sports a surprisingly sculpted look and standard quatro all-wheel drive. It’s engine isn’t anything to write home about, but the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill has some pep, producing a respectable 261 hp and 273 ft lbs of torque. Despite its diminutive size it has plenty of cargo room, making it an ideal option for people who need space but don’t want to give in and buy a crossover.

In Production Since:  1994 Top Powertrain Option:  Twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder Power:  261 hp and 273 ft lbs of torque Zero to 60 mph:  5.5 seconds Top Speed:  140 mph Starting Price: $47,600

Judge shows mercy to ex-Romulus mayor who spent campaign money on yacht club, wedding

Former Romulus Mayor LeRoy Burcroff used campaign funds to help pay for his daughter's yacht club wedding, his yacht club dues and a Florida vacation with friends — but he isn't going to prison for any of it, despite his guilty plea.

Instead, a federal judge on Thursday gave the convicted ex-politician three years' probation and four months' home confinement, sparing him a prison sentence that the government sought. Federal prosecutors had requested that Burcroff be locked up for 14 months for betraying the public's trust by using more than $15,000 in campaign money for personal spending.

"The residents of Romulus, Michigan, put their trust in defendant LeRoy Burcroff. Those who supported the defendant with their wallet and their vote likely never expected this aspiring politician to spend their hard-earned money on a family wedding, a Florida vacation with friends or a yacht club membership," Assistant U.S. Attorney Eaton P. Brown wrote in a sentencing memo that urged the judge to lock Burcroff up.

"Sadly, over a period of over four years, the defendant made a mockery of the city’s slogan — the 'Home of Opportunity' — by stealing thousands of dollars in campaign donations to enhance his lifestyle."

Brown added: "The defendant’s deceit and dishonesty must be punished."

'I made some terrible mistakes, made some terrible decisions'

Burcroff, though, convinced U.S. District Judge Denise Paige Hood to show him mercy. In a letter to the judge, the 59-year-old father and grandfather described himself as a prayerful man and avid community volunteer who was lucky enough to marry his high school sweetheart, raise children with her and pass down his family's theme to his kids: "Always do the right thing."

As for his crime — he pleaded guilty to wire fraud in 2022, admitting he used $4,500 in campaign funds to help cover his daughter's yacht-club wedding — he wrote:

"I agonize everyday over what I did. I wish I could do things over, but I know I can't."

He went on to say:

"I never thought I would be in this position standing before a judge, admitting to breaking the law, and asking for your leniency. ... I made some terrible mistakes, made some terrible decisions. ... I am so sorry."

While Burcroff pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, he did not admit during his plea hearing to using more than $15,000 in campaign money for personal reasons, which is what he was charged with.

According to the government, in addition to using campaign money to help pay for a wedding bar tab and church ceremony fees, Burcroff also did the following:

In 2017, he used campaign money to overpay his membership dues at the Belleville Yacht Club. When the club realized the mistake, management wrote a $2,000 check to reimburse him for what they believed was an oversight. "This was no misstep, however," prosecutors wrote in court documents. "Upon receiving the reimbursement, (he) promptly deposited the sum into his personal bank account."

In 2014, Burcroff bought a $23,000 Ford Focus with campaign funds that he used “extensively for personal purposes,” then later bought a $27,000 Jeep Wrangler that he used for “similar impermissible personal excursions.”

In March 2018, he bought his way onto the board of a local trade organization, Power Transmission Distributors Association, by making a $1,000 donation to the group from his campaign account.

In January 2019, he flew his wife and two friends to Florida for a weekend vacation — courtesy of his campaign donors. The couples stayed in a luxury hotel and dined in fine restaurants to the tune of more than $4,000 — all of which was billed to the campaign. The friends who accompanied him on the trip reimbursed him for their portion of the vacation. Burcroff then deposited the friends' money into his personal account, thus doubling his money.

In 2020, after WXYZ broke details about Burcroff's campaign scheme, Burcroff reimbursed his campaign $35,000.

Following Burcroff's sentencing hearing, U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison stated that Burcroff’s conviction and sentence"underscores our commitment to ensuring that" communities in southeast Michigan "are represented by public officials who have integrity and are seeking office not for their self-interest, but for the good of the people they are elected to represent.”

Added Detroit's FBI chief Cheyvoryea Gibson: "The former mayor's actions severely undermined the confidence of those who bestowed trust and faith in him and his office. ... We will not tolerate misconduct and will do everything we can to ensure justice is served."
