Split first came to prominence in around AD 295 when the Roman Emperor Diocletian ordered a palace built there. Diocletian's Palace remains an important part of the city to this day even after a number of other empires have ruled over the city over the last two Millennia.
The Venetians owned Split over the city for more than 350 years, then the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the French and then of course Tito’s Yugoslavia until the late 1980’s. Diocletian’s Palace remains an important part of the city, untouched in the civil war and the destruction of Yugoslavia in the early 1990’s. As such this historic port is an almost unspoiled Mediterranean port that is worthy of a stay for a day or two, even before heading off on a luxury yacht charter.
Explore Split By Renting A Boat or Yacht
You can sail to Brac Island and Solta Island that lie an easy few hours sailing away from the ACI Marina Split, and can give you a taste of the best the Adriatic has on offer shortly after leaving port and an easy shakedown cruise on the sailing yacht. Another historic port on the Dalmatian Coast is Trogir, again a short day sail from the city along the bay.
On a typical sailing holiday you can mix and match between cities and towns, laid back anchorages and busy marinas as you go, taking in everything from barbecues on deserted beaches to full blast nightlife the feeling takes you.
Thanks to its position in the middle of the Adriatic Coast, Split is a great place to start a yacht charter heading south through the islands and along the Croatian coast towards Dubrovnik. Many a yacht charter up the Adriatic Sea is a one way trip, taking in the islands to the west as you hop from port to anchorage on your journey.
Skippered and fully crewed yacht charters also follow this route, with you just a passenger while taken by sea to some of the best spots known to those running the boat.
The holiday hotspot of Hvar is just a couple of days’ sailing from Split too. You will encounter the best nightlife in the region as well as some fantastic beaches. On an itinerary such as this you would loop back to Split at the end of your trip.
Heading north, Kornati Island is a national park with unique geology and wildlife, and are worth a visit for a day or more.
Around 50% of the marinas in Croatia are run by the state-owned ACI Marina company. These are of a good standard, though you should be aware that on some of the remoter islands shore power and water might be limited. ACI Split is where most sailboat charters leave from, though Trogir Marina is not far from Split Airport – you can include Split as part of your planned itinerary from there.
Where you can sail to or hire a boat to travel in the nearby area
If you have an eight day yacht charter (Saturday to Saturday) then you can head south to Dubrovnik and loop back or north to the Pula peninsula and return.
On a bigger, faster vessel like a motor boat or superyacht you could visit much of the coast of Croatia from north to south – it isn’t a very big country, though there are 2,000 islands to visit!
How To Get To Split
There are regular flights from several British airports to Split.
Travel routes to get there.
From the UK you can fly direct from Bristol, Belfast, Glasgow, London (Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton), Newcastle, and Manchester. It is also possible to fly to Venice and then on to Split from there.
The airport is 23km from the main city and a taxi costs around £30 for the trip. There are shuttle buses into the city centre from the airport too – these can save you money but you will still have to get from the bus station to the ACI Marina Split for the sailboat charter.
Suggested Sailing Routes From Split
Broadly there are two ways you can take a charter out of Split. The first is a one-way trip south to Dubrovnik, taking in the islands and coastline as you go.
The second is a loop route. Heading south over 6-8 days it is possible to head down to Dubrovnik and then island hop north via Vis island, Hvar Town and Stari Grad, either staying on a mooring buoy or going alongside at a town quay as you head back to Split.
Heading north you can take in the Kornati Island national park and head as far north as the original Dalmatian capital of Zadar before looping back south.
Trogir Marina is a little closer to Split Airport than ACI Split so you could include the city as a stop on similar routes north or south.
A typical day’s sail could be up to 35 miles though can be as few as 15. On a sailing monohull this would amount to 3-7 hours sailing daily though on a quick motor yacht you can cover a greater distance and spend more time exploring ashore.
Types Of Boats and Yachts To Hire In Split
Broadly there are four types of boat you can hire in Split – the motor cruiser, monohull sailboat , catamaran and speedboat.
Ranging from a 50 metre-plus fully crewed superyacht to a 15 metre bareboat, motor cruisers are a comfortable and fast way of getting around the coast and islands of Croatia. The larger ones will have all manner of toys from jet skis to racing yachts aboard, and plenty of entertainment space to enjoy sunsets (and sunrises!) in good company.
Monohull sailing boat
The workhorse of the sailboat charter fleet, monohull sailboats do the job in comfort – though not at a ripping pace. Better at getting to windward than a sailing catamaran, you’ll likely find yourself under sail more often on a loop route than on a cat. Don’t expect to get anywhere in a hurry, but that’s part of the fun of sailing! Available for as little as €120 a day at the basic end you can have a great sailing holiday for a group of six adults at a good price – though you can pay a lot more for extra comfort and space.
Sailing catamaran
Much quicker downwind than a monohull, sailing catamarans can be fun and fast – but extremely comfortable and spacious at the same time. Expect en suite heads in every cabin and plenty of entertainment space below. The twin engines will more than make up for the leeway that makes these less handy to windward.
Not for spending the night on, speedboats are still a fun way to explore the Croatian coastline and islands. You can hire one for a day or half-day and blast about the sea, enjoying the sunshine and cool sea breezes with the wind in your hair.
Do you need a licence to hire a Yacht or Boat in Split
If you are on a skippered or crewed yacht charter you do not need a license to charter a boat out of Split. You also don’t require a license for smaller speedboats. However if you are on a bareboat charter you will need a license of sorts. Accepted licenses include:
The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) - European and South African sailors
Qualifying national sailing certificates for the icc.
Day Skipper
Coastal Skipper
Yachtmaster
American Sailing Association
ASA 104 Bareboat certificate
International Proficiency Certificate
Bareboat Cruising
Sail Canada
Intermediate Cruising Standard or Advanced Cruising Standard
Best Times To Hire A Yacht In Split
The sailing holiday season in Split runs from April to October. Marinas charge around 20% extra in July and August and can be very busy – if you can avoid these months then it will be cheaper and quieter.
It can be very hot in the summer months too with the odd day in the high 30s or above. The sea is very warm in August, getting up to 25 degrees C.
Weather can change quickly so do keep your wits about you. As always be aware of the local forecast for the coming 24 hours.

Catamarans will cost from €500 a day in low season up to €5000 a day for a luxury end one in high season.

Split, as well as the entire Adriatic coast, is blessed by the mild Mediterranean climate, which means a lot of sun and heat, especially in the summer months, and very few cold and rainy days. Although there is a whole range of things you can do in Split throughout the year, such as the obligatory walk through the UNESCO-protected Diocletian’s Palace, if you love hubbub, parties and concerts, this enchanting city should definitely visit in the heart of the season.

Climate and ideal time to visit Split
In July and August, all of Split seems to be dressed summer dresses, just in time for the world-famous Ultra Europe festival (July 8-10, 2022). On the other hand, those who are into more romantic experiences will surely be delighted by the spring face of Split and the surrounding islands, which seem to wake up around Easter, as do most travel agencies, cafes and restaurants , opening their doors and welcoming first visitors.
Featured Yachts
However, it should be emphasized that for many September, and more often October, are the most desirable part of the year to visit Croatia and Split, as in pre- and post-season there are no crowds, prices are lower, and weather and sea temperatures are still pleasant for all sea-related activities.
Throughout this summer half of the year, an extremely large number of visitors decide to charter a yacht in Split because the Split area is one of the top charter destinations in Croatia .
Marinas and berths in Split archipelago
Split yacht charter is extremely popular because of the many magical surrounding destinations, but also because some of the most beautiful Croatian marinas are located in this part of the Adriatic.
ACI marina Split
The city of Split is dotted with many small, local marinas, but with 320 berths by far the most visited is ACI Marina Split (+385 (0) 98 398 850) which offers much-needed parking sports for yacht owners. In case you are looking for parking in and around ACI Marina Split, first look inside the marina.
One very attractive anchoring spot near Split is the Blue Lagoon, which is located between Veliki and Mali Krknjaš, and the much larger Veli Drvenik.
Marina Martinis Marchi
ACI marina Milna
On the island of Brač , the largest nautical center is the deep Milna cove with three marinas: ACI marina Milna (+385 (0) 98 398 851) with 170 berths, Yacht club Milna (+385 (0) 91 400 04 87) with 45 berths and Marina Vlaška (+385 (0) 99 244 7410) with 70 berths. Apart from Milna, the nearby Brač Yachting Anchorage Bobovišća (+385 (0) 91 500 1619) is also becoming increasingly popular, where you can book your place on the buoy in advance.
ACI marina Palmižana
Pakleni islands off the coast of Hvar seem to have been created for anchoring, as was the nearby ACI Marina Palmižana (+385 (0) 21 744 995) with 180 berths. The nearby Vinogradišće cove offers the possibility of buoy berths (concessionaire Đenko Meneghello +385 (0) 91 171 82 42), and in addition to providing protection from almost all winds except the south, is locally famous for a spectacular number of excellent restaurants to visit by boat .
Anchorages on Vis island
If you are aiming towards Vis, make sure to stop at Budikovac, beloved for its turquoise lagoon whose depth rarely exceeds 2 meters. One of everyone’s favorite coves on the island is Stončica, where buoys have been set up to welcome yachts, and the same concessionaire (Gradina Vis +385 (0) 21 711 121) offers buoys in the town of Vis, where boaters have 100 berths at their disposal.
In Komiža, 30 boats can be moored on the waterfront (SDZ Port Authority +385 (0) 21 339 825), and 60 buoys have been set up in Komiža Bay (Komiža Nautical Center +385 (0) 21 713 215). Contact the Komiža Nautical Center if you decide to visit the Mezoporat cove on the island of Biševo, where 20 buoys have also been set up.
Yachting routes that pass through the Split waters are by far the most popular on the Adriatic due to the magnetic attraction of this part of the Croatian Adriatic and the fabulous pearl-like islands that surround this city – Hvar , Pakleni islands, southern coast of Vis, Blue Cave on the island of Biševo. Gather your crew, opt for Split luxury yacht charter and direct your bow to the south.
Island of Brač
Along the way, many boaters want to swerve a little toward the island of Brač and the deep Milna cove, whose Italian name valle di mille navi is due to its legendary depth and the ability to host a thousand ships. Those who want to experience the local atmosphere of a small island town can spend their first night in Bobovišće cove where most boats moor, while lovers of calm, picturesque nature can sail to the southern shores of this stunning island.
Island of Šolta
If your cruise hasn’t started in Šolta, make sure you visit the island as the icing on the cake of your Split yacht charter. This island has similar yachting attributes as the neighboring Brač, but is much smaller and isolated. On island of Šolta , the most desirable destination among boaters is Maslinica, an authentic fishing village that today shines with new splendor and is the proud home of the most beautiful Croatian boutique marina Martinis Marchi .
We also warmly recommend a visit to the picturesque town of Stomorska or the turquoise southern coves that maintain a certain wild feeling to them and are ideal for all fans of intimate lovers of more mysterious moments.
Hvar and Pakleni Islands
Many boaters who opt for an early check-in during their Split yacht charter immediately decide to cover about twenty-five miles and conquer Pakleni islands, and spend time exploring this enchanting archipelago counting 21 islands, islets and cliffs. Pakleni islands – which sounds like hell islands in Croatian – do not justify their name and are actually as peaceful as you can imagine, seeing how they are actually named after a wood resin – paklina – found around here.
The largest island in this archipelago is St. Clement, and with no southerly wind all of its southern coves are true oases of beauty and pleasure. Stretching west to east, the spacious Soline, the turquoise Taršće, the slightly smaller Stari Stani and the most popular Vinogradišće coves lure with their charms.
On this list is also the too popular Stipanska cove on the islet of Marinkovac, whose vibrant and loud nightlife might not be everyone’s cup of tea. In any case, St. Clement is serene, criss-crossed with trekking paths that connect all its bays and are a great opportunity for an hour or two spent in nature.
Should you want a stronger ‘connection’ to the land, either due to unfavorable weather conditions or just in case, ACI Marina Palmižana and the northern shores of St. Clement are only a few miles away, and the mesmerizing beauties of Hvar are at your fingertips.
You can stay in this micro area of Hvar for several days, just like many local families have been doing for decades, but it would be a real shame no to go farther and get to know the entire island.
Vis and beautiful beaches
The southeastern side of Vis and a range of incredibly beautiful islands are only a dozen nautical miles away. We suggest that you first drop your anchor in Stončica, a sandy cove with turquoise water, and take a walk to the nearby lighthouse, among the beautiful in the Adriatic. In its immediate vicinity to the east lies Smokova cove, where even in the high season there aren’t too many boats, and which is known as an ideal destination for playing picigin, a highly addictive local ball game.

Later, you can visit the other sandy haven on the island – the nearby Zaglav cove, where you can indulge in a dive among the many fan mussels, allow yourself to be charmed by the surrounding turquoise or bask in the sun lying on the fine sand that this uninhabited cove is famous for. Right around the corner lies the town of Rukavac, whose northern side is covered in rocky shores, and whose much gentler southern side is a haven with white pebble beaches, like the beloved Tepluš beach. Both sides are suitable for anchoring (in the absence of southerlies) and are separated by a stone pier suitable for docking for vessels with shallow draft.
In case the weather forecast is favorable, spend the night in the turquoise lagoon that mourns the island of Budikovac. This island is a unique microcosm that doesn’t lose its peculiar character even at the peak of the yachting season. A local celebrity Andro Slavić lives in Budikovac all year round, where he has a real small ranch and a uniquely imaginative restaurant.
The next day, as soon as the sun approaches its zenith, let the magical colors of the Green Cave on the neighboring island of Ravnik spill over you. After that, visit another island delight – Srebrna beach, whose name – silver – is a misnomer, as the this cove boasts the most beautiful white pebble beach.
Sailing along the southern shores of Vis in the direction of sunset, you’ll find it hard to choose where to drop your anchor. Ruda cove lures with its almost Caribbean shades of blue, Mala and Vela Travna with imaginative configurations of rocky shores and silky miniature pebble bottoms, and the famous Stiniva is a true masterpiece of Mother Nature. This ‘cove in a cove’ is reminiscent of an exclusive pool, open 24/7 for the lucky ones.
Spend the night in the picturesque fishing village of Komiža if the sky is not frowning from the west, which is usually a sign of bad weather. Drop your anchor at the waterfront or tie your vessel to one of the many buoys, but wherever you stay, make sure you leave Komiža exactly as you found it.
Visit local beaches around Komiža, walk to the most impressive symbol of the town – the church of St. Nicholas, and if you want a unique adventure, rent a bike and conquer the steep, steep road to one of the most spectacular Adriatic lookouts, from where you’ll be able to chose where to turn your bow next. Vis luxury yacht charter is a ideal mixture of magical beaches, pristine nature and delicious local cuisine.
Biševo and Blue cave
You can complete your cruise with a visit to the magical Biševo island and the beautiful Blue Cave. A visit to this island some 40 miles toward the open sea almost always remains imprinted into the visitors’ minds ss one of the most beautiful memories from their Split yacht charter, which is why this very special, almost zen destination, deserves a special full-length feature.

Croatian cuisine is known for its fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, and delicious cheeses and pastries. The local cuisine in Split , specifically, is heavily influenced by its coastal location, and you'll find an abundance of seafood on the menus of many restaurants.
One of the most popular seafood dishes in Split is grilled fish, which is often served with a side of Swiss chard or potatoes. Other popular seafood dishes include black risotto, octopus salad, and cuttlefish stew.
Meat lovers will also find plenty to enjoy in Split . One of the most famous meat dishes is pašticada, a slow-cooked beef stew that is often served with gnocchi. Another popular dish is peka, which is a traditional Croatian dish made with meat (usually lamb or veal), potatoes, and vegetables, all cooked together in a clay pot.
When it comes to cheese and pastries, Split is known for its delicious sheep's milk cheese, which is often served with prosciutto and olives. And for dessert, be sure to try the local speciality, fritule, which are small fried doughnuts that are often dusted with powdered sugar.
Of course, there are many other delicious dishes and specialities to try in Split, and you're sure to find something to suit your taste buds. And if you're a wine lover, be sure to sample some of the local wines, such as the white wine Pošip and the red wine Plavac Mali.
What is the best time for a Split yacht charter?
The best time to rent a yacht in Split would be between May and October, when you have warm weather and little to no rainfall. For the hottest weather, visit in the summer, with averages of 28°C. However, summer is the high tourist season in Croatia, which means that Split will be crowded and the prices of Split yacht charters will be more expensive. For slightly lower prices and fewer crowds, we recommend a sailing experience at the tail ends of the high season in either May, June or September.

If you choose not to hire a skipper, make sure you have the appropriate boating licence for your boat rental. Alternatively, choose a boat that you can rent without a licence. Whether you decide to hire a yacht in Split with or without a skipper, you’re sure to have an unforgettable holiday.
What type of boat is best for a Split yacht hire?
If you’re wondering which type of vessel to choose for your Split boat rental, you have to think about the logistics of your sailing holiday. If you want to sail for a longer period of time, it would be better to choose a comfortable and spacious vessel, fully equipped with all the amenities you’ll need.
Yachts and catamarans are great options for longer sailing trips as they are usually rented by the week, and they have everything on board to accommodate all passengers. For a shorter time on the water, we recommend a daily charter such as a RIB or a motorboat. If you’re an avid sailor, you might prefer a traditional sailboat. Be aware that sailboats can be difficult to navigate and should only be operated by experienced licence holders. Find the perfect vessel for your Split boat rental with Click&Boat.

Sailing Croatia
Without a doubt, Croatia can be described as one of the best kept secrets of the European sailing destinations. Sheltered by the chain of the Dinaric Alps, its endless coastline is covered with pristine beaches and charming medieval towns. A Croatia yacht charter is a wonderful choice whether you are looking for a relaxed sailing vacation with your family, or an exiting sailing adventure with your friends. This region has many secluded islands and islets, along with a wide variety of comfortable marinas. You can choose a boat charter in Croatia with easy hops or longer, more challenging passages.
A Croatian sailing vacation offers a wonderful chance to explore ancient ruins and historic cities, to stay for a night in a secluded anchorage, or to visit traditional fishing villages - all of this in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.
Yachting is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Croatia, thus numerous catamarans and sailboats can be seen all over the coastline. Croatia yacht charters are well developed. Here you will find one of the biggest European chains of modern marinas with berths for yachts and catamarans from 30 to over 100 feet long. Anchorages, moorings, and marinas have all the necessary amenities and are located within a few miles of one another. In addition, while sailing in Croatia you will find many free moorings near family restaurants where you can sample local wines and fresh seafood right on board your own yacht.
The Adriatic coastline can be divided into three counties: Istria, Central Dalmatia and South Dalmatia. Yacht charters in Croatia are available all along the coast. Below are some useful tips for selecting a boat rental in Croatia that will help you find the perfect time and place for your dream sailing trip.
North Croatia Sailing – Istria County
July to the middle of September is the best time for a yacht charter in the northern part of Croatia. During this season the water is warm and most days are sunny, while the prevailing wind is mild mistral. In early spring and late autumn this area may be prone to bora, strong local northeastern winds.
One of the most convenient places to start a North Croatia yacht charter is in Pula, the city closest to the international airport.
During your sailing vacation in the northern region of Istria, we recommend a visit to the former Tito`s state summer residence, his favorite safari park in the Brijuni Islands, to walk under the ancient pines of Mali Losinj and to sail under the picturesque Cres Island bridge. The stunning view of the ancient Rovigno City and its main landmark, St. Euphemia Basilica, can be seen only from the water. If you are looking for a more challenging sailing passage in Croatia, you may like to head from Pula directly to Venice. Within a several hour journey you will find yourself along the Italian coast.
Southern Croatia boat rentals – Dubrovnik County
Since ancient times Croatia has had great strategic importance, thus over the centuries various civilizations and cultures have left part of their legacy and influence, creating a rich and diverse culture.
Sailing along the southern Adriatic Coast of Croatia is recommended for sailors with moderate to good sailing experience. In this part of the country, good weather and fair winds last longer into the season, so you can explore the sights and enjoy the beauty of the Adriatic coast until late autumn. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
Dubrovnik sailing vacations
A yacht charter in Dubrovnik, the southernmost region of Croatia, offers a great variety of comfortable marinas and secluded moorings. The medieval city of Dubrovnik is called the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and because of its long history of maritime trade, has played an important role since ancient times. Today its blend of historic architecture and modern cafes and nightlife make it a fascinating destination.
The rugged coast south of Croatia is a great choice for sailors who value stunning scenery and historical sites more than the distance passed. What could be better than having breakfast on board your yacht near an ancient fortress of an old town
During a yacht charter in Croatia, you won't want to miss a visit to Mljet National Park and the golden island of Sipan. There you will find stunning vistas of the Dalmatian Islands and enjoy a landscape covered with orange and tangerine trees, palms, agaves, Renaissance parks, flower gardens and medieval stone buildings.
Sailing in Split area
The Split area is one of the most popular Croatia yacht charter destinations. Located only 10 minutes from the airport, it attracts sailors from all over the Europe. A Split yacht charter is an easy starting point for a sailing vacation in Croatia, with open access to the most stunning destinations and secluded islands.
Within a 7-day Croatia yacht charter you will be able to visit Hvar, an island popular for its exclusive cafes and bars on the Adriatic, learn how to extract marble on the island of Bra, visit famous Korula island, the birthplace of Marco Polo, and soak up history and culture with Renaissance cathedrals and ancient monuments while walking the ancient streets of Trogir.
When sailing in the Split area do not miss a chance to visit the waterfalls located in Krk National Park, a gorgeous destination any time of year.
Overall, a Croatia yacht charter offers an ideal mix of history, exquisite Mediterranean cuisine and unforgettable sailing opportunities. With excellent infrastructure, short passages and calm waters, Croatia yacht charters rival any other sailing destinations in the world.
It is also a perfect country for those who are looking for an unforgettable sailing adventure in Europe.

Dalmatia Region
This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.
Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel', Split has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.
Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is Dubrovnik, a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.
Istria Region
Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.
Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.
Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.
Croatia’s stunning coastline and idyllic verdant islands have made it one of the most popular regions for Mediterranean yacht charters . To truly experience the magic of this country, here are our tips on the places you must check out when you charter a yacht in Croatia.
Don't Miss:
- Game of Thrones tour - through parts of Old Town, Dubrovnik where some of the most memorable scenes were filmed.
- Dubrovnik Summer Festival - see dramas, plays, classical music concerts and much more.
- 360˚ Dubrovnik - Michelin-starred restaurant built into the walls of the old town, with exquisite views over the harbour.
- Diocletian’s Palace - UNESCO site within the walls of Split’s historic and thriving town.
- Franciscan Monastery - Visit Hvar’s 15th-century monastery and museum that overlooks a shady cove, and meander charming gardens that feature a 300-year old cypress tree.
- Plitvice Lakes National Park - one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia.
- Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) - located on the southern coast of Brač, regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe.
- Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
- Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
- Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
- Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.
Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.
But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.
Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.
As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.
Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia
Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.
You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.
Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia
The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.
There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.
Gulet Charters in Croatia
Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .
With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;
- For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
- For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses
The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.
related articles
There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .
Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.
For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .
Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.
It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .
sample itineraries
We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.
There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.
There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;
- ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
- ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
- Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
- ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
- Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.
Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;
- D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
- ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
- Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.
For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:
- ACI Marina Split – located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
- Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
- D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.
With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.
If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.
Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A
Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;
- Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
- Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
- You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.
There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.
Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.
Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.
Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.
Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.
The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.
You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.
Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.
Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.
Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.
For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide: Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Sailing Guide Split
The city of Split lies on the coast of central Croatia in the region of Dalmatia. Considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean, Split’s alluring architecture, vibrant culture and great beaches make it one of the top destinations to charter a yacht. Sailing lovers from all around the world flock into the city to get a taste of the Split sailing experience. With its spectacular Old Town, tranquil beaches, nearby islands and strong nautical traditions, you’ll soon find out why a sailing holiday in Split is an experience like no other.
Things to do and see when sailing in Split
Sailing in Split is a lot of fun - tourists flocking here from all over the world is proof of that. Sailing in crystal clear waters, stopping by incredibly beautiful bays and discovering this part of Croatia by boat is definitely a fun thing to do. However, there is more to discover in Split!
Activities in Split
- Snorkeling in Split has to be on the bucket list of your sailing vacation. Charter a boat and discover some of the most beautiful spots for underwater life in Croatia. One of the most famous spots near Split is Korčula .
- Rent a pair of jet skis in Split if you want to have a bit of fun after relaxing on deck of your boat rental all day long.
- Rent a boat in Split to sail around the hidden bays, the many stunning beaches and lagoons. If you are more interested in the sailing experience than the destination, renting a sailboat might be the best option for you.
- Hike Marjan’s loop if you want to discover Split from a different perspective. It’s a two-hour hike that takes you through some of the most alluring nature surrounding Split before reaching the highest point of this part of Croatia. If you want a bit more of a challenge, we would recommend you to hike Vidova Gora on the island of Brač , not far from Split. Sailing to the island from Split, it is the perfect route to discover this part of the Adriatic sea and include a bit of a different experience to your sailing holiday.
- Visit Krka National Park to spot waterfalls and castles. Located north of Split, it is the perfect destination for a daytrip.
- ‘The Eye of the Earth’ is a stunning natural water source that is used as drinking water for the Dalmatian hinterland - so although it is indeed tempting to jump in for a dip, it is not recommended. Besides that the temperatures reach only 7 degrees.
- No trip to Split is complete without visiting the historical town of Split. Palazzo di Diocleziano and the Cathedral of St Domnius are just two of the sites you should visit while roaming around the city.
Beaches in Split
Sailing in Split means having plenty of opportunities to discover the stunning beaches. Whether you want to join the locals for a quick dip, explore more remote beaches away from the crowds or stunning rock formations, Split has it all! There are many superb beaches that have been awarded the Blue Flag distinction for upholding strict environmental standards, including family-friendly Bačvice beach.
- Bačvice Beach might not be the prettiest beach there is, but it is where the locals go. It is safe, relatively quiet and located super close to the city centre.
- Sail to Beach Stobrec Jug for a bit of a different experience. Enjoy a quiet swim on this pebble beach away from the masses.
- Firule Beach is definitely one of Split’s most beautiful beaches. While the beach is surrounded by trees and nature, there are some facilities offering refreshing beverages and public restrooms. This makes it the perfect spot to stop by with your kids.
Parties and Boat Parties in Split
Famous for its parties, Split also offers a lot of different locations for boat parties - if you don’t want to throw one on your own boat rental. Many companies offer party cruises from Split you wouldn’t want to miss if you want to have a wet sailing adventure full of booze.
Restaurants in Split
One of the most beautiful things about Split is that you can find the most delicious seafood here. Fresh from the sea and directly to your plate, you will enjoy many local dishes in some super casual as well as high class restaurants.
Casual dining in Split:
- Kantun Paulina : If you’re travelling on a bit of a budget, but want to enjoy fantastic food, you need to pay a visit to Kantun Paulina. This place is particularly famous for its Cevapi. Savour the bread that has been described as a dream by many customers.
- Makedonska Kuca : Big portions, cheap prices. This is exactly what you’re getting at Makedonska Kuca. Try some of the most delicious Macedonian food you ever tasted. Nothing better than fueling your energy after a long day of sailing around the Croatian coast in Split.
Fine dining in Split:
- Konoba Nikola is one of the fine dining restaurants in Split you shouldn’t miss. It is a fresh fish restaurant offering the most delicious local dishes. The tuna and the scampi carpaccio are all-time favourites.
- ZOI : A Michelin star restaurant, located in the centre of Split, that will leave you wishing for more. ZOI means ‘life’ in Greek and the food here is exactly going to make you feel like you’re living your best life. Overlook the harbour while sipping on a local wine and eating the freshest seafood around.
Bars and Clubs in Split
As many other popular sailing destinations like Ibiza and Mykonos, Split is also known for its fun and sometimes a little extravagant nightlife. Get all dressed up and sip a delicious, colourful cocktail in one of Split’s many elegant bars? Hang out with your friends for a casual beer? Shake your booty in one of the world’s most renown clubs? Split has it all!
- NOOR Fine Spirits & Cocktails : Describing themselves as ‘probably the biggest small bar in the world’, this establishment introduces you to exquisitely presented cocktails in the most elegant location.
- ShotGun Shooters Bar : Most famous for offering a large variety of shots, you might find yourself holding onto the door late at night. You will definitely celebrate a night worth remembering - or not!
- Judino Drvo Club : Local DJs bring you the best electronic music to dance the night away in one of Split’s most popular clubs.
Explore historical Split
Everyone needs a break from sailing around the stunning coast and sunbathing all day. Why not head into the historical centre of Split to discover some of the most incredible historical sites you can spot. Visit the Cathedral of Saint Domnius to discover more of Croatia’s Catholic history and Roman past. It is said to be the oldest cathedral in the world that is still in use today for services etc. Climb up the dome for a panoramic view of the city. Diocletian's Palace is worth a visit if you want to experience Roman history outside of Italy. Built at the turn of the fourth century, its structure and magnificence can still be seen today.
Discover mystical Split
Split may not be known for its mythological history, but you can find a Sphinx, a classical symbol of Egyptian mythology, in front of the Cathedral of Saint Domnius . Dating back as far as Pharaoh Thutmose III, it is considered one of the oldest objects to be found in Split. There is an urban legend about Cornelius Vanderbilt of the famous American Vanderbilt family going around in regards to the Sphinx. Apparently he tried to purchase it, but was declined.
Sailing conditions in Split
Sailing lovers from all over the world flock to this picturesque town in Croatia to go on a sailing holiday. It’s not just to see the beauty of Split, it is also due to the ideal sailing conditions in this part of Croatia.
On average you will get 315 sunny days per year in Split. During peak season between May and November, you will get sunny weather, mild temperatures and ideal winds for sailing. In the summer months June, July and August temperatures generally range from 26 to 30 degrees, making it ideal for a summer vacation.
However, if you are looking at sailing in Split in lower season, you need to be aware that the weather can change drastically from one moment to the next. We would therefore only recommend more experienced sailors to venture out into the Croatian Mediterranean in the months between December and April.
Three winds dominate this part of Croatia. The Bura, a north-easterly dry, but cold wind that moves from land to sea; the Sirocco, a warm, but humid wind that is generally responsible for a rougher sea; and the Maestral, which is part of the natural phenomenon when the land heats faster than the sea and is then transporting that warmer air out into the sea.
Tides are normally quite low (rarely higher than 0,5 meters) which is important to consider if anchoring in shallow waters.
How much does it cost to rent a boat in Split?
The cost of renting a boat in Split can vary highly depending on the type of boat you are looking at renting, whether it is high or shoulder season, how many rooms the boat has, how old the boat is, what kind of budget you are handling and so on. On average you can rent a speedboat in Croatia for as little as 28 EUR per person per day and a speedboat for about 35 EUR per person per day. Other types of boats are more expensive. At an average price of 460 EUR per person per day, the catamaran is, on average, possibly the most expensive type of boat to rent here. On average a gulet would cost you around 75 EUR per person per day, a houseboat is 80 EUR per person per day and a motorboat 61 EUR per person per day. If you’re looking at renting a sailboat, the most popular type of boat in Split, it costs about 225 EUR per person per day.
What type of boat is best for sailing in Split?
There is not THE best boat to rent, only the best boat for your sailing vacation in Split. Depending on whether you want to go on a proper sailing adventure where the experience matters more than the destination or if you just want to rent a boat to find the best beaches, you are looking at different types of boats.
Rent a catamaran in Split
Pros of renting a catamaran in Split
Catamarans are the perfect vehicle to sail in shallow waters. Instead of a keel, they have a shallow draft, which means that you can anchor closer to the shore to swim to some of the most beautiful beaches or to sunbathe in waters that are not as exposed to the wind as open waters. This makes it also the perfect boat to jump right into the water whenever you feel like it.
As catamarans are often more of a luxury option when sailing on water, some might compare them to little hotels on water. If you are up for a sailing adventure, but prefer some of the amenities a typical hotel holiday has to offer, a catamaran charter might be the best option for you.
Cons of renting a catamaran in Split
Standing on two hulls makes catamarans a lot more stable than other types of boats, but also bigger. This might impose a few difficulties on you if you are looking at mooring your boat in a marina. Spaces are usually scarce. Mooring big catamarans often costs more than mooring other types of water vessels.
Rent a sailboat in Split
Chartering a sailboat is one of the most popular options for a sailing holiday in Split. There are plenty of good reasons why this is the case!
Pros of renting a sailboat in Split
Ideal wind conditions lend themselves to the fact that renting a sailboat is one of the most popular options for many tourists visiting this part of Croatia. You get the actual sailing experience rather than just hopping from island to island to enjoy the most beautiful beaches, caves and lagoons. Another pro is the fact that you move with the wind, meaning that you save on the costs for fuel and sail more environmentally friendly. In this day and age it is truly worth considering.
Cons of renting a sailboat in Split
You are 100% dependent on the weather when sailing on a sailing boat in Split. Although many modern sailing boats come with an engine, many older models are not equipped with one. If the wind seizes to blow as much as you would hope, you might find yourself stuck in the middle of the Adriatic. This can be disappointing - especially if you only have a week of vacation to sail around this part of Croatia.
Charter a sailboat in Split
Rent a motorboat in Split
Pros of renting a motorboat in Split
One of the biggest advantages of renting a motorboat is their shallow frame which allows you to anchor closer to the shore than with a sailing boat for example. This comes in especially handy if you look at stopping by some of the stunning beaches and hidden bays that you can discover from Split. Additionally, they are much faster vehicles than some of the other types of boats you can rent in Split, making it the perfect water vessel if you’re aiming at seeing as much as possible within a short period of time.
Cons of renting a motorboat in Split
The speed of motorboats comes at a price. At first glance they might not be the most expensive option, but the faster you sail around Split, the more you will have to pay for fuel. Not necessarily budget-friendly.
Rent a gulet in Split
Chartering a gulet might not be the first choice for everyone, but there are many positive aspects when it comes to renting a gulet in Split.
Pros of renting a gulet in Split
Renting a gulet is not for the fainthearted. Charter a gulet in Split if you are looking for an once in a lifetime adventure! Wake up in a different location every morning and experience what life is like on a boat. Although there are many different kinds of gulets, including luxury options, you cannot compare it with a stay in a hotel room. This makes it a huge plus for all adventurers out there.
Due to its space, gulets are often rented for groups of 10-15 people or more. If you are looking at an adventurous sailing vacation in Split with all your friends, this might be the perfect option. Don’t worry if you are not in possession of a valid international boat licence. You can always rent a gulet with an experienced skipper.
Cons of renting a gulet in Split
Only rent a gulet in Split if you are up for the challenge. Rooms in gulets are generally small. If you are feeling irritable in small spaces, this type of vessel is probably not for you. Other than that, gulets are perfect boats for a week of sailing.
What kind of boat license do you need when renting a boat in Split?
Renting a boat in Split and all of Croatia means that you need to possess a valid boat licence - including a VHF radio licence . This is not just a recommendation, it is Croatian law.
Don’t have a boat licence? Don’t worry! Book a boat in Split with an experienced skipper who will take care of maneuvering the boat, showing you the best spots away from the tourist crowds and most of them even have the most interesting stories to tell.
Sailing routes in Split
Start your sailing adventure in Split by picking up your boat from one of the many marinas. Start with some island hopping around Split on the island of Brac – anchoring in Bol, Milna or Bobovisca Bay. Then go to Zlatni Rat Beach , one of Europe’s most breathtaking beaches. If you love nature, you will be pleased to know that there are several opportunities for hiking and sightseeing. Next head to the vibrant island of Hvar , where you can enjoy great bars, lovely beaches and vineyards. Anchor in the stunning marina on the island of Palmizana . This nature park is just a five-minute sail or water taxi away. Continue south to reach the island of Korcula , which is well known for its charming Venetian Old Town and rich cultural traditions. From Korcula, make your way back to Split’s marina or continue on to the green island of Mljet , past the Elaphiti Islands and make your way to Dubrovnik, another stunning town located in the Adriatic sea.
From the islands of Solta and Brac to the World Heritage City of Trogir, there are many great destinations to visit that are just a stone’s throw (or about 15-30 nautical miles) away, making for some great day trips from Split.
One of the most popular day trips is sailing from Split to the island of Hvar , where you can anchor in some of the most stunning bays in all of the Dalmatian coast. Dubovica Beach and Jagodna Beach are just two of the incredible beaches you can visit on your trip there.

Thank you for best week of my life. The boat performed perfectly. Out skipper Josko was just fantastic captain and great fun to have. He really made sure that we had the possibility to enjoy this week to the max. Very professional and good anticipation to weather conditions! I am very happy to have him as a skipper.
We had such a great week, despite two days of rain. This is why Croatia is so unique. There is always something to see and something to do. We couldn’t believe how romantic Croatian small towns are on the rain. The boat behaved very well, the food was exceptionally good in the konobas, and all the locals were friendly and helpful. Our skipper was very proffessional but also friendly, took us to the best places such as see some beautiful caves and bays, sea is so clear and clean.
Josko from Catamaran Charter Croatia was incredible to work with – truly an expert and so well connected in the area. The boats he works with are far superior to the majority we saw on the sea and the staff he has access to are incredible! From the service, the food, the knowledge on best places to avoid crowds and find the perfect cove to swim or the perfect locals restaurant really made the trip special. Croatia is a special place – a cleaner version of Italy with more hospitable people and tremendous food & wine. The towns, scenery, history, architecture were all incredible.
Catamaran with skipper or bareboat?
Our sailing catamarans can be rented with skipper or bareboat, that is without skipper. Which option is right for you depends on whether you have valid sailing license or not. You can find your preferred yacht in one of the marinas located along the beautiful Croatian Adriatic cost. Whether you choose the skippered charter like Lagoon 450, Lagoon 440, Fountaine Pajot Salina 48 or the smaller Lagoon 39, Lagoon 380, Lagoon 400 S2 or Nautitech 44, your comfort within your budget gets the priority and is ensured by the company.
You can enjoy your stay on catamaran all the more if you hire a trained hostess, professional and experienced cook or a deckhand. Also, luxury crewed yachts like Lagoon 620 or Lagoon 560 already have skipper and hostess as permanent crew. Either way, you get full value for the money that you spend when you book a yacht with Charter Catamaran Croatia.

From open sailboats for rent, luxury yachts to traditional crewed gulets, we have a lot of yachts for everyone to choose from.

Best time to rent a yacht in Croatia is the summer time, when weather is calm between May and September, which gives an opportunity for easy-going sailing charters. Dalmatian coast is characterized by hot dry summers and mild winters, with average temperatures between 23 and 30C. You can inform yourself on what to pack for different parts of the sailing season here .
Coast of Adriatic is additionally stacked with dreamy coves, wonderful old towns, bays and sunny beaches, where you can enjoy tasty local specialties like grilled fish, lamb on spit, prosciutto and top it with awesome wines. That’s why we are following that trend, and increasingly recommend sailing in Croatia to our returning clients. Choose one of the recommended routes and enjoy.
If you book a sailboat, power boat or catamaran charter in Croatia for the first time, you obviously need to pay attention on regulations and skipper licenses requirements . To charter a boat, it is required to poses a valid nautical license, on top of navigation and sailing skills. Please contact us for detailed information regarding valid licenses accepted in Croatia. If the license you already have is not accepted, we can arrange a short sailing course where the necessary practical and theoretical skills can be acquired.
Stability and comfort of catamaran
Catamaran has two connected hulls for more stability. Though the principle on which a mono-hull and multihull sail is the same, the latter provides more stability, speed and comfort because of two hulls and two keels. When it comes to beam reach and downwind sailing, it sails faster than a mono-hull. A yacht is your perfect choice for a comfortable and easy going cruise for you, your friends and family. With 4 to 6 cabins that can accommodate 8 to 12 persons and a large main deck outside, catamaran will be the ideal choice.
Why rent a catamaran? If you like to sail, but also would love that extra space on board, catamaran charter Croatia is your best choice. We offer large selection of more than 600 different boats in all Adriatic sailing areas. With brands like Lagoon, Fountaine Pajot, Nautitech, Bali and Catana Cats for rent, our fleet consists of brand new catamarans and well maintained older yachts with a good price.
Although these vessels are easier to maneuver in tight spaces thanks to their two engine setup, they are still much wider than regular monohulls, so they require special attention while in marinas. In general, these yachts are faster and more stable than regular sailboats, which is something that is appreciated by both families and professional sailors alike.
What I have to do to book a catamaran?
So, you need not plan big for a Croatia vacation or when you want to rent a catamaran, as rental prices are not exorbitant as they used to be. Yacht Charter Split
Split is one of the most popular yacht charter bases in Croatia . A major tourist, commercial and cultural center, it is located in central Dalmatia and is the second largest city in Croatia.
From Split you can sail south to the islands of Brac, known for its Zlatni Rat Beach, long and pebbly; Hvar, the Adriatic’s glitzy party island which has a great culinary scene and Vis, with its Roman ruins and crystalline waters. Peace and quiet is nearby too with many hidden coves and sandy beaches to anchor in.
Dating back to ancient times, there are a number of archaeological, historical and cultural monuments and museums. Diocletian’s Palace is not to be missed. Recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, it was constructed by the Roman Emperor Diocletian and was an opulent and heavily fortified palace fronting the sea. It now forms about half the old town of Split.
For hiring a vessel from Split, there is a choice of four marinas: ACI Marina Split, Zenta Marina, Spinut Marina and Poljud Marina. The area around Split is well known by sailors as the ideal starting point for yacht rentals in Croatia . The Dalmatian islands are all easily accessible from here and all types of vessels are available for hire: sailing boats , motor boats and catamarans. In Split we also offer gullets, as well as crewed luxury motor yacht charters .

There is also a train station with lines to Sibenik, Zadar and Zagreb.
There are ferry lines to Rijeka and Dubrovnik, as well as to the islands Solta, Brac, Hvar, Vis, Veliki Drvenik and Mali Drvenik, Korcula and Lastovo. International ferry lines connect Split with Ancona, Pescara and Bari via Dubrovnik.
Split International Airport is 25 kilometers northwest of Split. There are direct daily flights to Zagreb and many European cities. Special bus lines connect the Split airport and the centre of Split, several times per day.
Sailing Conditions
The waters in this region pose no major problems for navigation and are suitable for beginners. Sailing conditions are ideal; the prevailing winds are the friendly Maestral from the North West, the Bora from the North East, and Sirocco and Jugo winds from the South/South East.
