Inside a resident’s apartment on board the 196m The World

Just like any modern luxury condominium or private superyacht, the only fixed element of a home on board the world’s largest private residential yacht, The World , is the square footage. Beyond that, residents of The World can redesign and customise as much as they want to make their apartment feel like their own.

“ The World is not like a cruise ship or a small yacht, where guests have little cabins and will sit in the public areas all day just to give themselves space,” explains The World’s Residential Director Andy Dinsdale. “You’ll never get that feeling of it being overcrowded here, because our residents have beautiful homes and they want to spend time in them.”

With 165 private apartments on board owned by 150 families from about 20 countries, residents discover how those living on this 196.35 metre yacht make The World truly feel like home.

Custom-designed apartments

There are 12 different styles of homes spread throughout The World ’s 12 decks, starting from studios and progressing to three-bedroom apartments spanning 301 square metres. The interior of the yacht was designed by Petter Yran and Bjørn Storbraaten, in collaboration with five original designers who worked on the interiors and apartments. Each designer of the apartments has a distinctive style; TNT Milan apartments feature yellow wood finishes, for example, while Nina Campbell-styled residences are more floral and homespun.

Once a resident purchases an apartment they can design, renovate and decorate their home in their own unique style with the help of their preferred designers – those who have styled apartments on board The World have included List GC, Jenan Interior Design, Nordic studio Luttenberger Design, AD Associates Design, YSA Designs and Interiors Idea. Over the years multiple owners have chosen to carry out refurbishments, including combining apartments, adding to the range of available configurations.

For residents planning home alterations, there are two refurbishment slots a year and many chose to schedule works during The World ’s dry dock period every three years. In 2022, 62 residents had their apartments renovated and restyled to create their dream home on board.

Another way that residents choose to add personal touches to their place on board The World is by expressing their tastes through artwork. Paintings and sculptures purchased by the residents adorn the yacht’s common spaces, while each home has a wall space directly opposite the front door where residents can hang a piece of art to personalise the welcome area. During the ship’s recent dry dock in Cadiz, Spain, 12 new art installations were received from world-renowned Saatchi, Grimaldis, and Artsy Galleries representing artists from Venezuela, Romania, Japan, Israel and the United States.

The Jensens, an American-Austrian couple who have owned a home on board The World for more than 15 years, have decorated their apartment with items from their global travels. Their living room is decorated with a glass and wood sculpture from Bali and other exotic memorabilia from their extensive travels, while a Japanese Fusuma door decorated with oriental imagery is featured in the master bedroom.

Residents chose the view

The World’s adventurous cruising itinerary has seen the superyacht traverse the globe from Antarctica to the North Pole and everywhere in between, calling in at over 1,000 ports in over 120 countries. “We are essentially a floating luxury condominium. On board The World , you can travel and take your home with you. So there’s no jet lag, and minimal customs and immigration inconveniences,” explains long-time resident and itinerary committee chairman Mr Jensen.

Not only does this mean that the ever-changing apartment views on The World satisfy residents’ wanderlust, but the sights seen out of the windows of The World are chosen by residents themselves. Itineraries are mapped out by a committee formed by residents, the two Captains and the company’s itinerary planning department and then voted for by everyone else who lives on board. Being a resident on The World means you have a say in where this superyacht cruises and the experiences that can be undertaken at each destination.

Even though there is a set itinerary, residents can easily choose to leave the ship when it suits them, with crew able to arrange all transportation necessary. “The lovely thing is that we stay in each place for a few days and we can either go out, or not go out, or book a tour, or go further inland and meet the ship at the next port,” Mrs Jensen adds.

You can host friends and family on board

“Just like in a private home or on a yacht, you can invite your friends and family to stay,” explains The World’s Dinsdale. As residents average three to four months (combined) on board during the year, they have the option of participating in The World’s guest stay programme whereby their unoccupied residence can be used by guests visiting other residents who require more space to accommodate the entire group. The guest stay programme is also available by invitation only to potential residents who would like to sample the experiences and unique lifestyle of The World before investing in an apartment.

Private chefs

There are plenty of options for food and drink on board The World , with four fine-dining restaurants and plenty more casual eateries and bars offering delicacies influenced by itinerary destinations. But for inspired residents wanting something not on the menu, The World constantly changes the dining experience by inviting guest chefs on board. Notable chefs who have boarded The World as she cruises close to shore have included multi-Michelin star holders Curtis Duffy of Chicago, Kiko Moya of Alicante, Suriname-born Soenil Bahadoer and northern European chefs Jonas Andre Navik, Viki Geunes and Silvio Nickol.

For residents who want to host a party with a specific menu in mind, The World can offer residents a private culinary experience in their home. One time Mrs Jensen used the private chef service was when The World was in Russia as she wanted to taste an authentic beef stroganoff served by local chefs. What she describes as a “very memorable dinner” was completed with a silver-service dining setup organised entirely by The World’s crew, who serve residents in the same capacity as yacht crew and private home staff.

A small selection of homes on board  The World, Residences at Sea  are available for resale every year. To learn more about ownership opportunities and the unique residential lifestyle of this one-of-a-kind mega yacht, contact  The World ’s Residential Advisor by calling +1 954 538 8449 / +44 20 7 572 1231 or clicking here . From Miami to Montenegro: 7 Epic Home Marinas Where You Can Dock Your Yacht

Here are residences in multiple settings that let you step from your yacht onto a private dock, and then live large in a waterfront home., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

Seven residences where you can put your yacht

Dockominiums—condos with docks—were all the rage 15 years ago. Since then, the concept has evolved into more exclusive access for yacht owners. This second wave of upscale residences, which provide slip spaces to a homeowner’s or visitor’s private yachts, has grown across the US, Caribbean and Europe, now including marinas that accommodate superyachts. They range from little hideaway islands in the Bahamas to Miami-area neighborhoods to an exclusive island retreats, or a five-star resort with oceanfront mansions in untouched areas of the Dominican Republic. Here are seven of the world’s finest, offering the best possible form of pier pressure.

Casa de Campo — Dominican Republic

yacht where house

The Dominican Republic is often highlighted for its golfing facilities, but the Casa de Campo resort and villas place it squarely on the yachting map. No less than seven restaurants are joined by a yacht marina, equestrian center featuring polo, shooting course, shops and three private white-sand beaches. Serving the needs of both couples and large groups of friends, the island villas range from four to 10-bedroom accommodation, each with private butler service. Taking its inspiration from Mediterranean fishing villages, the yachting marina, prized for its proximity to the oceanfront properties, is especially sought after by sport fishermen who flock to the ocean playground. Here, in 2019, the largest yellowfin tuna ever was caught, weighing in at 480 pounds.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives — Fari Islands

yacht where house

In the North Malé Atoll of the Maldives, just a 45-minute journey by speedboat or a 10-minute seaplane flight from Malé International Airport, are the Fari Islands. Here, yacht owners can cruise the remote atolls before dropping anchor at Ritz-Carlton Maldives and stepping from deck to villa surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The service experience extends to an island butler and a full suite of fitness and recreational facilities. The resort offers Maldivian signatures, such as white sandy beaches, turquoise lagoons and coral reefs with marine life, plus access to a dedicated marina—the archipelago’s communal beating heart. Larger yachts can drop anchor outside of the lagoon and still access all facilities at the Ritz-Carlton and Fari Island Marina.

Sandy Lane Yacht Club — Glossy Bay, Canouan Island

yacht where house

Neatly tucked next to the famed Tobago Cays, nestled among the 32 islands of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Canouan Island is a yachting destination that flies under the tourism radar. Less than 20 miles south of Mustique and 110 miles west of Barbados, the three square-mile island is surrounded by coves, beaches, one of the Caribbean’s largest coral reefs and the 120-berth Glossy Bay Marina. Accommodating deep draft boats up to 328-foot in length, the marina sits conveniently next to waterfront residences at the Sandy Lane Yacht Club. One to three-bed suites and two to three-bed villas are available to those wishing to arrive, drop anchor and sink straight into island life. Each property has a private balcony overlooking the marina and island landscape of Canouan beyond, just the ticket for those looking to sail the Tobago Cays and surrounding Grenadines.

Over Yonder Cay — Bahamas

yacht where house

Calling all fans of private islands. Over Yonder Cay in the Exumas southern chain of the Bahamas provides yacht owners the opportunity to dock their boat in front of one of four private beachfront villas, or go all in and rent the entire island for the ultimate in barefoot luxury. This former remote fishing outpost has been transformed into an eco-friendly islet for those seeking an authentic taste of sustainable island life. Managed by Elite Lyfe, Over Yonder Cay is powered by a renewable energy system, which includes three wind turbines and a 1.5-acre solar field. The private deep-water marina can dock multiple yachts up to a maximum of 150 feet in length with 12-ft draft, with both floating and fixed docks providing sheltered berths. The marina and clubhouse are available solely for the island’s guests.

Porto Montenegro — Montenegro

yacht where house

The nautical village with its residential waterfront at Porto Montenegro makes yacht ownership as easy as parking a car. Dropping anchor outside your private residence has never been so simple. “The perk of having a private, long-term, berth in the marina suits because the yacht owner can have their boat parked just a few feet from their apartment’s terrace,” Porto Montenegro’s Danilo Kalezic told Robb Report. Set in the heart of the UNESCO-protected Boka Bay and supported by a private concierge service, it’s well placed for those looking to navigate the picturesque Adriatic peninsula.

Fairhaven — Miami

yacht where house

Hugging the shoreline of Biscayne Bay, Coconut Grove is a leafy neighborhood with relaxed sidewalk cafes and shops. In the tree-lined Fairhaven district, this waterfront four-bedroom Pacaso home brings yachting into the mix with 50 feet of water frontage, a private dock and direct ocean access. Design features within the 5,378-square-foot property include three balconies and walls of glass overlooking the water and a dockside plunge pool. Nearby sites include the bay-front Barnacle Historic State Park, the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens and a lush mangrove forest. Sailing clubs and marinas dot the protected waterfront, making private boating the best way to make the most of the Miami experience.

Delta Coves — California

yacht where house

Built within minutes of fast water on the California Delta, the 494 Delta Coves waterfront residences, each with a 19-foot private dock that can accommodate up to a 32-ft. vessel, place owners in one of the world’s most idyllic cruising grounds. Situated in California’s East Bay area, which takes in San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, the homes provide a gateway to 1,000-plus miles of waterways for unlimited boating, fishing and watersports. “Among the waterfront views, private docks have absolutely been a key selling point,” Nick Taratsas, executive vice president and general manager of Delta Coves, told Robb Report . “In many cases, we’ve had homeowners motivated to purchase a boat in response to the opportunity that comes with living in a waterfront home.” Alongside yachting, social activities revolve around the Island Camp, a 15,000-square-foot private club.

These Luxury Hotels Have Their Own In-house Yachts

Don't forget to pack your nautical ascot.

yacht where house

Get a little more from your next seaside getaway by booking a luxury hotel with the ultimate swanky amenity: an in-house yacht .

Seriously, why just gawk at the ocean views when you can be whisked away for an immersive, open-water experience instead? From Thailand to Turks and Caicos, Marbella to the Maldives, these opulent hotels offer charters on private yachts for hourly, daily, and multiday itineraries, with excursion options that only add to the dreamy experience.

7Pines Resort, Ibiza

Ibiza may be best-known for its parties, but it can also be a prime place for relaxation, as exhibited by 7Pines Resort , where nature and luxury define your stay. This cliffside property over the Mediterranean Sea provides guests with sweeping views and a further opportunity to be among the vista in one of its Pershing Yachts. The Pershing 5X and Pershing 9X combine futuristic elements courtesy of the Ferretti Group and Fulvio de Simoni, ensuring aerodynamic, incredibly smooth sailing. One of the most popular charters runs to Formentera Island, considered Ibiza's little sister, where guests can enjoy a sleepier, coastal atmosphere, with lunch at a beachside restaurant.

InterContinental Hayman Island, Australia

A trip to the Whitsundays puts you in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef — a natural wonder stretching over 1,400 miles. Therefore, a yachting adventure is not just recommended but inherently mandatory. At InterContinental Hayman Island — the Whitsundays' northernmost inhabited island — a range of private vessels from 50- to 100-feet, await to bring you even farther out to sea. Yachts like the Ocean Affinity run excursions to the region's most popular attractions, including diving the Great Barrier Reef, a leisure day anchored along the powdery white shore of Whitehaven Beach, or a sunset cruise with Champagne and hors d'oeuvres.

The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos

There's something about the luxury of a hotel brunch that's indescribable. The Ritz-Carlton, Turks & Caicos elevates that feeling by offering Sunday brunch cruises aboard its sailing catamaran, Lady Grace . Named after the hotel's location along Grace Bay — known for shallow, warm, aquamarine waters — the 64-foot catamaran glides through the waters gently enough to not disrupt your eggs Benedict. Lady Grace is also available for bespoke tours and activities from reef snorkeling, sunset cruises, gourmet picnics, and visits to deserted beaches.

Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, Thailand

In the Andaman Sea, the Anantara Layan Phuket Resort provides access to the dozens of islands found here with its 36-foot Sunseeker 90 Yacht, Major Affair. Running private trips for up to eight passengers, Major Affair offers a variety of unique packages, from a day anchored at Phi Phi Island, to snorkeling around the Similan Islands, to a visit to Phang Nga Bay, where the 1974 James Bond Movie, "The Man with the Golden Gun," was filmed — or simply a day lounging on the sundeck as you putt through a landscape punctuated by mountainous limestone karst.

Marbella Club Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, Spain

Along the Costa del Sol of Spain, Marbella Club Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa offers not one but two sailing yachts for guests to charter. Lacruz and Revolution are a hybrid of luxury and sport, featuring contemporary amenities like a spacious outdoor shower, guest cabins, and a large solarium. There are also paddle boards and surfboards, among other water sports accessories for exploring the Mediterranean, on board. Daily experiences on both luxury vessels are powered by the wind, allowing a serene sail against the backdrop of the Sierra Blanca Mountains, Gibraltar rock, and even the African coastline on the horizon.

Waldorf Astoria Maldives, Ithaafushi

Over-water villas are a renowned stationary way to experience the Maldives' vast marine life, but for a more immersive opportunity, Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi offers its 56-foot yacht. Available for day charters, experiences range from cruising to private beaches for a day of relaxation, coral conservation activities, diving with manta rays, and private sunset charters where guests can sip Champagne as the fiery sun melts into the atolls.

Pangkor Laut Resort, Malaysia

Pangkor Laut Resort offers unparalleled views and access to the Straits of Malacca on this privately owned island of Malaysia. Its in-house yacht, YTL Lady II , can be chartered for custom itineraries throughout the year, but perhaps its most famed offering is The Straits to Luxury Experience, a five-day, four-night charter that cruises guests from the Pangkor Laut property to Phuket. Only available from December to May, the 85-foot boat is staffed with a private hostess and a chef.

D-Hotel Maris, Turkey

The Datça Peninsula is recognizable as the place where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean. D-Hotel Maris honors this by providing guests with three yachts to charter to experience the aquatic destination to its fullest. The 53-foot Alia Open Sea motor yacht offers speed for day outings, as does the 55-foot Azimut , while the 100-foot wooden sailing yacht, Ubi Bene , is suited for a relaxing sail to sights like the Blue Lagoon and the Sunken City of Kekova. Aquatic sports like kayak tours, wakeboarding, and diving are also available, so building a personalized open-water itinerary is encouraged.

Rosewood Baha Mar, Bahamas

Stationed along the fine-sand beaches of the Bahamas' New Providence Island, Baha Mar encompasses three hotels: SLS Baha Mar , Rosewood Baha Mar , and Grand Hyatt Baha Mar . With a total of 2,300 rooms, a multitude of restaurants, bars, and lounges, as well as pools and beachfront, there's certainly no shortage of activity on land, but the at-sea experiences on offer are unmatched. Guests at any of the properties can choose from two luxury yachts available for private charter: the 213-foot super yacht, Eternity I , ideal for larger groups and longer excursions (including multiday trips around the islands), and the 65-foot Eternity II , which typically runs leisure day trips that include diving, fishing, and cruising around the Bahamian waters.

Canaves Oia, Santorini

A collection of five hotels throughout Oia, Santorini, Canaves Oia is a family-owned brand offering something for everyone, including yachting getaways. The brand's fleet of yachts includes three luxury vessels that are exclusively accessible for guests staying at any of the properties on Santorini, from its newest property Canaves Oia Epitome to its founding hotel, Canaves Oia Boutique Hotel. Various journeys include tours to the Santorini volcano, snorkeling at the red beach, or wading in the azure waters of the white beach, as well as planning for experiences on board, like romantic proposals surrounded by the Aegean sea and private parties. Once the guest decides on their activity, all they need to choose is the yacht: 73-foot Alexandros , 55-foot My Way , or 43-foot Pardo .

Inside Travis Scott's Yacht Inspired Home

Travis Scott and his mansion

Music maverick and hitmaker Travis Scott may be the self-proclaimed king of the "AstroWorld," but in the real estate world, his most recent purchase makes him the king of Brentwood. According to Architectural Digest , the rapper invested in a 16,700-square-foot home with a whopping seven bedrooms and eleven bathrooms, costing him $23.5 million. This mansion is fit for royalty with panoramic views of Los Angeles, a 20-car garage, and three levels. Construction finished on the luxurious house a year before Scott's purchase.

Even though the price tag is far from affordable for the average Joe, as far as Scott is concerned, he walked away with a steal. The home's starting asking price was $42 million in June 2019 (via Realtor ). It dropped to $36 million, and then, in April 2020, two months before Travis sealed the deal (for close to $24 million), the Brentwood residence fell to $30 million. The yacht-inspired estate has all the bells and whistles to keep Scott, Kylie Jenner , and the rest of the Kardashian family entertained. Keep reading to discover all the stunning features of this one-of-a-kind home.

Travis can see everything

Travis Scott's majestic mansion is perched high up on a hilltop at the end of a cul-de-sac, per Architectural Digest. The incredible views look out over the city of Los Angeles.

The home is concealed from the street, making it almost invisible to the public. However, the design allows Scott to enjoy views of downtown LA and the Pacific Ocean. He could also see mountains, panoramic hill views, and the canyon (via Zillow ). Homes with unobstructed views are unique and are more expensive than homes without them. In the long run, the ability to view nature from your bedroom or living area is a treat. There's nothing better than waking up to natural light streaming through your windows and a scenic vista to enjoy daily. Natural light offers many positive benefits, including increased productivity, decreased eye strain, improved mood, and better sleep (via National Renewable Energy Laboratory ).

The house is shaped like a yacht

According to Hypebeast , the exterior of Travis Scott's home features strategic curves that resemble the curved lines on a luxury yacht. Yachts symbolize dynamic movement and luxury. Sanam De Loren of De Loren & Associates was the designer in charge of this architectural concept (via Architect ). Her design was complex, but her team of graduates maximized the 16,700 square feet of land and successfully created a triple-decker sea vessel in the form of a three-story residential building. There is a curved living room with an open floor plan, infinity swimming pool, and artwork from Toshi Kawabata.

Each of the three levels has multiple seating areas. There are chairs placed in different pockets of the patio, including sun loungers to outdoor sofas, and an al fresco dining table set with high stools. A cabana offers 360-degree views around the home, just like the ones in an actual triple-decker yacht (via Yacht and Boat Sales ).

Wooden features can be found almost everywhere

In a home tour from KNBC , creator Sanam De Loren showcases the different areas of the home, starting from the entrance and continuing throughout. Rich natural wood details appear at every turn, adding a soothing and chic touch. Upon entering the living room through the middle floor access, you see a massive floor-to-ceiling walnut sculpture made from rich brown wood by Japanese designer Toshi Kawabata. There are also sculptural wall elements and a gleaming natural wood table.

Most of the flooring in Scott's home is hardwood (via Zillow ). The material appears in a decorative blend on the bathroom floor, the cabinets holding towels, and the shower doors. If wood is good enough for this multi-million dollar estate, it is an ideal element to add to your home. Wood also possesses unique powers. It contains a natural organic compound that can put people in a state of relaxation and calm (via Wagner Meters ).

The house features an impressive gym and a sauna

If moving around this spacious residence is not workout enough, Travis Scott can rely on quality fitness amenities such as a gym and a sauna, per Redfin . The gym is another room that boasts a color palette of grays, whites, and blacks. The walls are different shades of gray, with white ceilings and jet-black gym tools and appliances. This chic color scheme offers symmetry and a synchronized balance to the room's aesthetic.

Every homeowner should consider using gray as their primary aesthetic because it offers space a luxurious and refreshed feel (via Sharper Impressions Painting ). The neutral shade can work on the walls of multiple areas in the house, such as the gym, the kitchen, the bedroom, bathroom, living room, home study, and more. To prevent your interiors from looking drab, add a pop of accent color like teal or purple on your curtains or pillow cushions.

The marble stairwell belongs in a museum

You might recall that this home has different levels, much like a triple-decker yacht. Getting around the whole building with ease is made possible courtesy of the exterior steps, ramps, and two elevators, according to Realtor . Likewise, the stairwell helps Travis Scott glide from one story to the next. However, this is no ordinary stairwell. The artsy and minimalist set of spiral stairs comes from cream marble, further highlighting the luxurious status of the home.

Like wood, marble is another material known to be quite durable, classy, and aesthetically pleasing (via Marmol ). It's a popular choice for interior decorators and homeowners internationally. Marble stairs undoubtedly add character and a luxurious touch to a home. However, if you live with kids, it may be worth adding a nonslip tread to keep them from slipping on the stairs while playing or running around (via No-slip Strip ).

The kitchen is every chef's dream

Travis and his chefs (because you already know he will have a few) would have no complaints about this gourmet kitchen. As  Redfin  confirms, it is in Brentwood and within walking distance of the highly sought-after Brentwood Sunday Farmers Market, which means sourcing ingredients for meals would be a walk in the park. Then, on to its features. This kitchen has a dark and super sexy aesthetic with black, gray, and silver steel tones. "We created the kitchen like that on purpose so that the food will be the showcase and the star," said designer Sanam De Loren (via  KNBC ).

A game-changing element in the kitchen is the luxurious black Calacatta marble, which De Loren added to the walls and various surfaces. This marble differs from the bright cream marble used on the stairs but still falls under the luxury category. The natural stone comes with an expensive price tag (via  Kajaria Ceramics ). Luckily Scott is a multi-millionaire with the budget for it.

The palatial living area can fit over 30 people

In the  KNBC  home tour, we see a seating area arranged in a layout that frames the sculpture. The seating comprises two semi-circular plush gray sofas opposite each other, two reflective black coffee tables, and smaller ottomans of the same gray shade. These pieces offer additional seating in this spot. The floor lamp behind one of the sofas in the corner of the room elevates the ambiance (via Philips Hue ). At night, it lights up the dark corner.

As you progress around the room, an additional seating area complements the fireplace. This section has two navy blue couches facing each other and matching ottomans. The fireplace fits onto a large wall. It may not be the focal point in the room, but you can still enjoy it as a centerpiece. It's ideal for having relaxing conversations and enjoying privacy since they are not the main objects of attention in the room (via Modsy).

The family room is a sanctuary

The impressive family room is on the same level as the living space. However, it is tucked away in a spot adjacent to the dining area for a conspicuous look. "The idea of the family room was for it to be the ultimate cozy space within the home. Every large home needs a cozy family room to retreat to, and this one is one of the best," designer and architect Sanam De Loren told KNBC .

3D paint adds texture to the walls of the area. This minimal technique successfully creates cozy vibes in the family room, making it the ideal spot for Travis Scott to enjoy a movie night or binge-watch his favorite show. This hand-printed technique is quite costly as it requires precision to achieve uniformity. You can find an alternative to this aesthetic for a smaller price tag with 3D wall panels (via Stonini ).

There's a fully-stocked home bar and a wine closet

According to  Realtor , Travis Scott has a five-star home bar that looks like it belongs in a Michelin restaurant. If he chooses to host a listening party at home for his new album, his guests will enjoy expert cocktails, mocktails, and spirits from the fully-stocked bar area.

If guests prefer wine, they can visit the glass temperature-controlled wine closet constructed to hold over 600 bottles (via  Hypebeast ). Speaking of wine-loving guests, we know a member of Travis Scott's family who would be quite happy to indulge, and that person is Kris Jenner. The grandmother of Scott's baby girl Stormi and his little son is very partial to vino and posts wine-friendly pictures and videos on her social media (via  Daily Mail) . She may be stopping over to check up on Travis more often than before just to indulge in this feature.

The underground entertainment area is perfect for relaxing

According to the  Irish Mirror , the Brentwood community is an elite area home to basketball legend Lebron James and "Friends" actress Jennifer Aniston. If Travis Scott chooses to throw a neighborhood party, he can always rely on his indoor recreation room on the home's bottom level. Just one floor below the living space, it's the perfect spot to entertain without the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

This entertainment hub features a designer ping pong table, cozy seating areas with fluffy throws, and side tables for placing snacks and drinks (via Hypebeast ). After the AstroWorld festival tragedy in November 20201, Travis needed to take a step back from the public eye while he processed the devastation and spent time healing (via  E! Online ). This place was probably a sanctuary for the rapper to rest, relax, and enjoy some leisure time after the stressful events.

There's an incredible infinity pool

According to More Heads Pools , infinity pools are rimless pools that appear to have no rims or edges to contain the water. The beauty of this swimming pool design is that the water tends to keep flowing over the sides of the pool. The pool blends seamlessly with its surrounding view, and you feel like you are one with the horizon.

Infinity pools can be traced back to the mid-20th century when architect John Lautner started constructing this pool design in southern California (via Platinum Pools ). They blew up once social media lapped it up as a status symbol. Hotels started getting a lot more serious about instilling this style of pool. Megan Wood, an editor at hotel review site Oyster, told The Outline , "I'd say that an infinity pool is almost a requirement at a luxury hotel in 2018, especially at oceanfront properties where it's key to make the most of the views. Everyone wants that shot where they're alone in the infinity pool, back to the camera, looking out into the sea. A kidney-shaped pool just doesn't bring the same drama." On days when the weather is fantastic, this area is perfect for unreal selfies with Kylie Jenner and the babies.

Greenery plays an important role throughout the home

Greenery plays a significant role in this $23.5 million home. A wall of greenery in the entrance area features plant species handpicked to provide air purification in the home. Studies show that more and more individuals are becoming plant parents. The surge began during the COVID-19 pandemic when people desired further nurturing, per NBC News .

Whether you wish to insert houseplants into your home for the first time, or you're not new to this, keep in mind that aside from the decorative aspect of being a plant parent, there is a functional aspect that you can also benefit. You can achieve this by picking plants that play an additional role in the abode. Some plants help alleviate stress, kick nausea to the curb, and help us decompress. English Ivy naturally purifies the air (via CIELO ). Scott's home also features greenery and indoor plants in the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas (via ApartmentFinder ). The backyard overlooks a garden with 300 trees and an orchard with actual fruit trees.

There is a 20-car auto gallery

What sort of home has a 20-car auto gallery? Well, this is not really a question Brentwood locals would ask because the kind of people who live here do not ride the bus. Travis is one of these car-loving individuals. It's no surprise that he would need a 20-car gallery. As Scott told  L'Officiel , "I've always been into customizing my cars, though, and living like I was in  Grand Theft Auto.  Getting a nice car was never enough for me ... I think I have a mix of all the sports cars I've ever wanted. There is this Lambo that looks like ... Batman, but I'm not going to lie to you...it's like $14 million."

If Scott wants to continue building his car collection, his home definitely has the space. The car gallery also doubles as a penthouse garden with beautiful panoramic views overlooking the city. The extra space is ideal for throwing a party or shooting one of his creative music videos (via  Hypebeast ).

The primary bedroom is the size of a house

One of the most intriguing parts of Travis Scott's mega-mansion might be the primary bedroom, which is at the top of the three-story building. Architect reports that the private ramp and marble paved route enable Scott to drive straight to his room upon entering his estate. The exterior of the primary bedroom has a private garage where he can park whichever car he chooses to use that day. This garage is separate from the 20-car auto gallery.

Inside the bedroom, floor-to-ceiling windows let Scott enjoy the views. These windows provide gorgeous natural light that will stream in during the daytime, brightening the space (via Signature Window and Door Replacement ).

Since this is the highest part of the house, the hitmaker will undoubtedly be in the room with the best views whenever he climbs onto the balcony. The primary bedroom also features a walk-in closet, giving Travis enough space for his extensive shoe collection (via Redfin ).

Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin outside of the White House in Washington D.C.

Inside Joe Manchin’s Yacht He Insured for $700,000

Joe Manchin’s boat , Almost Heaven, has drawn a lot of attention in the media in recent weeks. The Washington boat of the Democratic senator from West Virginia is said to be a rustic political getaway where you’ll find beer and pizza but no pretensions. You’re more likely to see shirts and shorts in the laid-back atmosphere of Almost Heaven than suits and ties. So, when did the senator buy the vessel ? How much did it cost for insurance ? Was the boat always like it is now?

Technically, Joe Manchin’s Almost Heaven is a yacht

Democratic West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin outside of the White House in Washington D.C.

While Manchin’s craft doesn’t sound like a yacht , it very much is. According to a 2004 article in the Washington Post , the vessel is a custom-built 65-by-20-foot, three-story hull. There are 1,500 square feet of air-conditioned interior living space with more amenities than you’d find in most condos.

The craft features an open, light-filled living room and dining area with a granite dining table. There’s enough space to entertain as many as 50 people on the vessel. Meanwhile, its kitchen was described as having a full-size electric stove, granite countertops, a Sub-Zero refrigerator, two dishwashers, and a trash compactor. It also boasts a good amount of cabinet and drawer storage space.

The house boat/yacht is insured for $700,000

The media describes it these days as a rustic houseboat. Once touted as a $700,000 luxury yacht in a 2018 Republican attack ad, Manchin’s own office reported that the used vessel was acquired for $220,000, according to the Daily Poster .

According to PolitiFact , the documentation was a 2014 memorandum of sale that listed the sale price for the boat as $220,000. The document showed that the boat was purchased from M&T Bank and National Liquidators brokered the deal.

When independent experts were asked to account for the difference between the two dollar amounts, they could not provide an explanation. It was likely the result of someone eager to sell the craft, and it was later insured at the boat’s original market value of $700,000.

Docked as a home on the Potomac River

Manchin’s home on the Potomac River has become a popular and critical destination in Washington lately. It’s reportedly been the site of core group negotiations on the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was just signed into law by President Biden in November.

Manchin, according to TIME , wasn’t enthusiastic about buying real estate in Washington with its higher cost of living. The boat, which is anchored about eight miles south of the Capitol, is where he stays three nights or so a week when the Senate is in session. Manchin thinks the craft provides a setting to foster bipartisanship among lawmakers who arrive and don’t know anyone else there.

Manchin regularly invites Senators from both sides of the aisle out for cruises in the evening. Manchin told TIME that it’s surprising what people find they have in common. He named current Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York a fan of the boat, claiming he likes the boat’s ambiance.

With his self-appointed task of trying to restore civility in a time of growing political division in Washington, Manchin’s yacht likely can’t carry enough beer or Merlot to get that job done. The conservative senator is a practitioner of an older form of politics. Manchin is admittedly frustrated at times but not ready to give up just yet. Manchin is a fan of results that aren’t easy to come by in Washington. Almost Heaven then serves as a means of escape for the senator when things get particularly stressful as they so often do.

Why the dacha was a Soviet heaven on earth (PHOTOS)

yacht where house

In modern Russia, a dacha is usually a cottage or a nice house in the country, with a high fence, running water and sometimes heating. The concept of ‘dacha’ appeared in the Russian language back in the 18th century. For nobles, it meant a country estate with a splendid manor house, where they did not live permanently, but would visit from time to time, usually in the summer. A Soviet dacha was a completely different thing altogether.

What was a Soviet dacha like?

Dacha residents tending strawberry beds

First of all, it was a place where city dwellers could grow their own vegetables and fruit. Dachas were allocated free of charge to employees of various departments, officials, the military, teachers, members of the professional unions of architects, writers, artists and many others, as well as to many ordinary public servants in the USSR. Usually those were small wooden houses on a small plot of land, typically just 600 square meters in size.

In the USSR, there were whole dacha settlements (known as ‘allotment associations’), where a large number of houses stood close to each other along several streets, separated by low fences. Sometimes, houses were semi-detached and would be shared by two families, each having a separate entrance.

However, even those cramped houses were people’s favorite place to escape from the city. Albeit small, it was a patch of land that a Soviet person could call one’s own and where they could relax.

Those who were not given a dacha could still get a plot of land in an allotment association, where they could grow vegetables, visit regularly to tend their kitchen garden and gather crops. Usually people grew potatoes, cabbage and strawberries, but also much more.

Tiny Soviet apartments had hardly any storage space in them, so many people used their dachas to store old clothes, books, furniture and other junk that they did not want to throw away.

Even now, dachas are often used as a place for recycling old things, which has given rise to a peculiar “art” form, sometimes quite tacky. Check out this picture gallery of garden art here .

Dacha is all about summer

Traditional Soviet dachas usually had no heating. Thus, the dacha season usually opened with the first visit of the year around the May holidays, when the dacha was cleaned after several months of disuse, its shutters opened, garden furniture taken out of the shed and arranged on the plot of land, which also had to be taken care of after the winter months.

Since most dachas were just summer houses, visited mainly at weekends, they also usually did not have running water or sewerage. What they did have were outdoor wash-hand stands, consisting of a water container with a stopper underneath that had to be pushed up for the water to come out. The water from it went either directly onto the ground or into a basin.

Toilets were outdoor, too: usually in the form of a small wooden hut built over a large hole in the ground. Some dachas had outdoor shower rooms, with water collected in tanks on their roofs and heated by the sun.

In winter, dachas mostly stood unused. Those that had a stove could be visited for the New Year holidays, too, but the house had to be well heated first.

Dacha is not (necessarily) for leisure

Dacha gardening

A Soviet person practically did not know how to relax. If they were lucky, they could be issued with a holiday voucher to spend a fortnight at a sea or a health resort. However, those fortunate enough to have a dacha, usually ended up spending their vacations there.

The catch was that while at the dacha, there was absolutely no time to relax, because there were always so many things to do. Something would always break down and needed to be repaired.

Domestic chores at the dacha

Even when everything was in order, there was always room for further improving the property and the patch of land it stood on, e.g. by installing a shower or building a summer veranda, for instance.

In addition, looking after the kitchen garden took a lot of time and care – first planting, then weeding, watering and caring for plants, treating them against pests and then harvesting the crops. Often, a whole weekend or vacation could be taken up by all this work.

The only time to relax at a dacha was when receiving guests. Then, hosts would heat a samovar, set a table outside and treat their guests to homemade berry jam and other goodies.

Dacha as a source of happy childhood memories

During the three-month-long summer holidays, schoolchildren could go to a pioneer camp for several weeks. But for the rest of the time, to escape from the city (and to give their parents some breathing space), children were often sent to the country, to spend time at their grandparents’ dachas. Often, parents would also take their annual leave in the summer and spend it in the country with their children.

Father and son at a dacha

Father and son at a dacha

In large dacha settlements, there were always many children, who spent all their time outdoors, running around, playing together, or disappearing to their secret haunts. An added bonus was the proximity of a river, a lake or even a small pond.

While at the dacha, children usually wore old clothes that had been retired from the city (and that could get torn or dirty without anybody minding), so they often ended up looking quite ridiculous. But nobody minded that either, as it was one of the charms of dacha life, where kids felt liberated after spending nine months in tidy and ironed school uniforms.

Soviet leaders had dachas, too

Stalin was very fond of spending time at his dachas. He had about 12 of them - several in Moscow Region, as well as in Sochi, Abkhazia and in Crimea. He not only worked at his country residences, but also often received ministers and officials there.

The country’s leaders after Stalin, as well as high-ranking officials, members of the Soviet nomenklatura and generals also had dachas. Theirs, however, sat not on 600 sq. m. plots of land, as those of ordinary people, but often occupied entire hectares of land.
