    Since the Six Metres first appeared in 1907 following the development of the International Rule, it has been one of the most popular of the Metre classes. More than 1200 boats have been built over the course of more than a century, and over 300 still sail and compete today.

  4. About the Six Metres

    The International Six Metre class of competitive sailing boats has a long history, stemming from the introduction of the International Rule - also known as the Metre Rule - in 1907. Several sizes of International Rule boats became popular, including Eights and Twelves, but it is the Sixes that have formed by far the largest class.

    By 1914, 208 Six Metre boats were built to the International Rule with fleets in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, England, Italy and France.
