Acico Yachts

Acico Yachts, a relatively new player in the pantheon of Dutch yacht builders, has launched both power and sailing superyachts, and also offers semi-custom luxury yachts.

History of Acico Yachts

The shipyard finds its roots in the former Dutch Yacht Builders in Enkhuisen, a town rich in The Netherlands’ centuries-old shipbuilding tradition. Dutch Yacht Builders, which was founded in 1995, was building the 49-metre Motor Yacht Nassima for a Middle Eastern owner in 2009 when it ran into financial difficulties. Nassima’s owner purchased the yard and formed Acico Yachts, not only to complete the build project, but also to launch a new custom and semi-custom yacht-building operation. Swiss Naval Architect Christian Bolinger was named managing director.

Notable Acico Superyachts

Nassima , the tri-deck aluminium superyacht, launched in 2012 with naval architecture and exterior styling by Olivier van der Meer and interior design by Maja von Dewitz of VDP Studio. One of Nassima’s interesting features is a garage that houses a Mini Cooper.

Acico Yachts holds the rights to build van der Meer’s Zaca range of traditionally styled sailing yachts. Zaca yachts up to 80 feet in length have launched to date; the designer has drawings for a Zaca 115 on the boards.

The 43.5m Superyacht Latitude By Dutch Shipyard Acico

Latitude is a 43.5 meter semidisplacement motor yacht that was built by Acico Yachts . This project was initially started in 2007, buy Cor de Rover , a Dutch designer, and Van Oossanen and Associates , the naval architects. It was finished and delivered to it’s owners in June of this year.

The exterior hull features a round bilge design, with a large spray rail in the forward section. Trim wedges in the propeller tunnels help to keep the nose lower, which allows this yacht to reduce its dynamic trim to almost nothing, even at full speeds. The bulbous bow design also reduces wave resistance, while the form of the hull lets her reach speeds of 20 knots without reaching a ‘hump’ speed. She is also able to cruise at ten to fifteen knots, still without the big wake you would see with the hardchine hull forms.

With much input from the owners, Cor De Rover designed both the general arrangement of the yacht, as well as the exterior styling. This striking exterior has a white hull, with a super structure that features a unique play of shadow lines, both on the concave as well as convex surfaces.

Inside is just as painstakingly luxurious. The master cabin, encompassing forward of the main deck, has a double entrance, as well as a forward master bathroom. This is a full beam master suite, and the master bathroom included dual sinks, a full toilet and bidet, a large trendy oval tub, and a full sized walk in shower with rain sprayers.

The Superyacht Latitude also features two VIP full beam cabins on the lower deck, one of the unique features in this size. The porthole windows are triple the size of normal portholes, which allow more natural light to come through, as well as offering spectacular views. Both the bathrooms have Italian marble throughout, and can be separated from the rest of the cabin with doors that slide, and these are virtually invisible when open. Compared to other yacht designs, there is an abundance of storage space and closets. There are two twin cabins also on this deck, with open concept bathrooms, which gives the illusion of wide open spaces. The Agape egg shaped tubs are a pleasant contrast to the rest of the linearity of the cabin design.

If there is need for more than ten guests, then the gym on the upper bridge deck can be converted into an extra cabin with little effort, and when not in use the folding bed is stowed invisibly into the bulkhead. This gym also has a treadmill, exercise bike, and even a full dumbbell set from Technogym. The salon of the Latitude, is located on the main deck, with the arrangement different from other designs. The sitting and relaxing area is forward, while the dining area is aft, near the rear sliding doors.

One of the sought after indoor and outdoor living spaces is achieved by using four bladed sliding doors that are capable of being fully opened. These are located on both the bridge deck as well as the main deck areas. Another dining area is also on the aft bridge deck, so it is possible to enjoy al fresco dining, while getting more spectacular views when moored in popular Mediterranean ports, on the open water, or wherever the Latitude happens to be anchored.

Acico Yachts is based in the pretty Dutch town of Enkhuizen, a town where ship and yacht building is a centuries-old tradition. The shipyard was founded upon an existing company, Dutch Yacht Builders, with one of their clients purchasing the yard. Swiss Naval Architect Christian Bolinger was installed as Managing Director and in May 2010, the companies were consolidated and rebranded, thus commencing the start of Acico Yachts and incorporating Dutch excellence, heritage and tradition.

Still a relatively new name amongst the pantheon of superyacht shipyards, the vast know-how of the workforce at Acico Yachts and the highly experienced management team has enabled the yard to quickly garner an impressive reputation. Acico Yachts’ modern facility comprises two large build halls, with the engineering and administration offices between them. A team in excess of 60 craftsmen transforms aluminum and steel into exceptional superyachts of both sailing and motor configuration. Acico Yachts has an in-house Casco construction and mechanical department, in-house naval architects and engineering and project management personnel.

This advanced setup and depth of expertise provides the reliability and the required flexibility to create exquisite semi and full custom superyachts, in both classic and modern designs, of up to 213 feet (65m) in length. For electronics and electro technical systems, Acico Yachts partner with a third party to ensure they can offer clients the most advanced systems and highest levels of service.

History of Acico Yachts

Acico Yachts was established in May 2010, when Dutch Yacht Builders was purchased by Acico Industries, and the two companies were combined to form the Acico Yachts shipyard. When Acico Industries took over, Dutch Yacht Builders had a 74-foot motor yacht half completed and Acico Yachts finished the build.

In 2015, Acico Yachts announced their acquisition of the Jongert shipyard in Wieringerwerf. This acquisition was pivotal in securing a sustainable future for Jongert, a brand founded in 1953 and which continues to operate under its own brand name today, as well as for significantly enhancing Acico Yachts’ facilities, portfolio of abilities and product offering.

The Acico Superyacht Fleet

Notable superyacht builds from the Acico Yachts shipyard include the 161-foot (49m) NASSIMA – a tri-deck aluminum motor yacht launched in 2012. This vessel was designed by Olivier van der Meer and has an interior by Maja von Dewitz of VDP Studio. NASSIMA is a fast displacement motor yacht with a shallow draft and highlights onboard include a large aquarium, a Jacuzzi and custom-designed gym.

Another successful launch from this Dutch yard was the 154-foot (47m) LADY DEE. Naval architecture was again by Olivier van der Meer, but this time the exterior styling was executed by Cor D. Rover. LADY DEE has a steel hull with an aluminum superstructure and has a comfortable cruising speed of 15 knots.
