Mavi 49 ft' Oyster HP49 Pilot House 1992
SUPERBLY REFIT AND MAINTAINED
MAJOR PRICE REDUCTION!
SELLERS ARE MOTIVATED!
Very hard-to-come-by Oyster 49-29 Pilot House design, Sovereign Edition, by Holman and Pye .
This yacht features a raised salon with large Oyster deck salon windows and a true inside piloting station that allows the yacht to be operated from the Nav/Helm station in the main salon with an independent steering system and wheel.
The wonderful three-cabin layout below features a true VIP cabin forward with large berth, settee and plenty of locker space reminiscent of a much larger Oyster. Just aft and to port is a generous one over one cabin. Across to starboard is the forward head with ensuite shower.
The raised salon features a roomy curved settee to port with a half-round table (and wine cabinet) that pivots and unfolds to double in size for entertaining a larger group. Across to port is a smaller settee forward with the Nav/Pilot station aft and to starboard of the companionway.
The galley, with microwave, spacious top-open fridge and freezer, double sinks, and an expansive pantry cabinet, is aft to port and two steps below the salon. It provides access to the aft owner's cabin with its own private head and very large ensuite shower.
The roomy center cockpit makes for comfortable passage making offshore. This yacht is fully equipped for blue water cruising including genset, watermaker, AC, davits, in mast roller furling, solar panels, etc.
This well cared-for and well loved family cruising yacht has crossed the Atlantic, been to the Caribbean numerous times, and been sailing the Chesapeake Bay since 2017 while undergoing major refits to prepare for long term ocean cruising.

Best Cruiser, 40 to 49 feet: Dufour 45e
- By Bill Springer
- Updated: December 9, 2010
Dufour 45e BOTY winner
When it came time to pick a winner in the 40-footer category, the BOTY judges had to decide between three relatively similar performance-oriented boats; two were actually built by the same company.
But when they got down to the nitty-gritty of deck layouts, accommodations space, and, in particular, sailing performance, the Dufour 45e rose to the top with ease. Unlike some boats that really made an impression on the judges at the dock, the 45e caught their attention out on the water as soon as they started taking turns at the helm. During deliberations, they all agreed that it was one of the best sailing boats they evaluated during their four days of sea trials. One judge described the helm as feeling “dreamy,” and they all appreciated the easily driven hull’s clean wake and a sail plan that’s both powerful and easy to control. The test sail illustrates this point beautifully: The judges recorded 7.5 knots of boat speed while sailing in a mere 10 knots of breeze. Judge Tim Murphy found he had no trouble trimming both the main and the jib while steering, and tacking the boat singlehanded was straightforward, thanks to the double-ended mainsheet led back to winches at the wheels. The judges noted that the jib telltales were also clearly visible to the helmsman. The wide cockpit has good backrests and brace points so the crew remains secure in a seaway. And there’s plenty of room to lounge when not working. When it’s down, the drop-down swim platform provides a wide space from which to board the boat from the water; when it’s up, it provides a secure feeling in the cockpit.
In addition to the boat’s superior sailing performance, the judges felt its stylish and functional accommodations plan could work well for a family. The saloon settees are spacious, comfortable, and also provide two long sea berths. There’s also copious stowage space in cabinets along the hull in the saloon and under all the seat cushions. The owner’s cabin forward has a good-size double bunk, an en suite head, and plenty of stowage, and the C-shaped galley has the gimbaled stove and the counter and storage space you’ll need to comfortably prepare meals during voyages of a week or longer.
**Winning Details **
- The boat’s overall sailing performance is outstanding.
- It’s easy to sail singlehanded since both the double-ended mainsheet and jib sheets lead to winches near the wheels.
- The accommodations plan is spacious and comfortable.

(SOLD) 2017 Marlow Explorer 49E
Mister Sandman represents a unique opportunity to acquire a nearly new 49 Explorer, with no wait. She is very fresh and sharp looking with the all white hull and deck, while the interior offers an attractive yet neutral palette. A long optional equipment list includes upgraded CAT C12.9 825 hp engines ($106,000 option), variable speed bow and stern thrusters, hardtop, stabilizers, chilled water AC upgrade, Awlgrip hull paint, and even a 11' Boston Whaler tender.
The 49 E offers master accommodations that will rival those of a much larger yacht. The designers resisted the temptation to cram in three undersized cabins, resulting in an owner's stateroom with a king sized bed, abundant storage, and even en suite laundry. The mega yacht feel continues around the boat with raised bulwarks, Portuguese bridge, and oversized hardware everywhere. Accordingly, she features also Subzero galley refrigeration, redundant systems and consistent quality throughout.
The optional CAT power will cruise the boat at 24 knots at 80/85%, yet will run very efficiently at 8 - 10 knots. With 1200 gallons of fuel, 1000+ mile range is a reality. (CAT Extended Warranty available for purchase).
Mister Sandman is easy to see, undercover, at our facility in West River Maryland.

OYSTER HP49 Pilothouse
What we say.
Holman and Pye created the 49 Pilothouse by utilizing an extended version of the Oyster 46 hull, to which they added a retroussé stern with sugar scoop and designing an entirely new deck. This is high enough to allow full standing headroom and a interior helm position, creating a motorsailer that sails beautifully. A proven circumnavigator, the 49 Pilothouse participated in the 1994 Europa Round the World Rally and had class wins in two ARC rallies.
The standard accommodation layout features three cabins with the owner’s stateroom aft. Guest accommodation is forward. All are masthead rigged, either as sloops or cutters. Nine were launched between 1991 and 1997.

Rig and Sails
Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.
The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
- LOA: Length overall in feet
- Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet
Capsize Screening Formula
This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.
CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)
Deep Keel version: draft: 7’ Disp. 35661 lbs. Ballast 11216 lbs. Tall rig: P = 55.75’ Furling Main: E = 23.75’ Mast height for tall rig: 68.5’

Captain: Sylvio LeBlanc
Sylvio was truly blessed, growing up on the shores of the Northumberland Strait, located on the Atlantic Coast of Canada, where most activities revolve around the sea in some manner. As a kid he learned to sail at his local sailing school and did so for 9 consecutive years, where he liked to race dinghies but most of all he just loved to sail. Ever since he's been a young man, there is something about the salty Atlantic air that awakens a sixth sense in him. Sailing answers and satisfies many things for him. After a career as an entrepreneur and seeing his boys off to college, he decided to plot a new course in life and tacked towards a career in professional yachting. After earning his Captain RYA Yachtmaster Certification and all other prerequisite tickets, he's never looked back. He is a kind and generous Captain and host, who respectfully engages with his guests with a relaxed and calm demeanor. He enjoys collaborating with the charter guests to create a customized Charter Plan, as per their wish list. Whether it’s cruising to a secluded beach paradise or visiting the Islands must see spots or anything in-between, you're the boss. Simply point the way and Syl will assure you're making the most of living in the moment while you're making life's unforgettable memories. Helen was born and raised in Southern California and has since made her culinary career centered around traveling. She received her culinary degree from Le Cordón Bleu French Culinary school, taking this experience to become a private chef to many celebrities, pro NFL athletes, and other high profile individuals. Now residing primarily in Palm Beach, FL, Helen has fallen in love with sharing her culinary expertise aboard luxurious charter yachts throughout the Caribbean. She has worked on a variety of both private and charter vessels, up to 200-feet. She was even honored to be part of the team on board Richard Branson's 107ft catamaran "Bella Vita", and 83 ft catamaran "Blue Gryphon" in the Bahamas. In addition to celebrity and yacht catering, Helen was also the former chef of American Express Miami lounge, and at a celebrity rehab in Malibu California. She is bilingual in Spanish/ English and always thrilled to engage with guests to cater to their comforts and dietary needs.

Chef/First Mate Carol Heffernan

An avid traveler and adventurer throughout her life, Carol’s pivot from a career in education came 12 years ago when she decided to pursue blue water sailing. As a kid, she’d had some experience with small sail boats growing up in Canada near Lake Ontario but it was her years on a gulf island in British Columbia that cemented her call to the sea. After her first experience crewing on a catamaran from California to Mexico she stayed the course and has sailed the waters of Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Central America and the Caribbean.

Carol has always loved cooking and readily found herself drawn to the galley. This focus led to professional opportunities aboard charter boats large and small. Always striving to exceed guest's expectations while at sea or ashore, Carol knows that the galley is the heart of a vessel and her emphasis on providing fresh, quality, foods prepared thoughtfully and elegantly plated enhances the guests experience which makes her charter food service as memorable as the beautiful scenery.
