Total garbage. Rude wait staff and every patron tries to sell me insurance. How unprofessional.

Photo of Kelly K.

After being a member of years and having a large event there last year I have really rather enjoyed being a part of this particular Country Club. Even thought I believe to be one of the youngest members the other patrons have always been warm and excellent to introduce and converse with. The facilities include a gym, pool, horse stables, tennis, restaurant and optional dining areas for different dress codes. The gym is limited in their equipment but it seems to be doing the job. Treadmills and free weights and the occasional classes are always available. The staff at the gym are beyond wonderful. The tennis courts surrounding the inside gym are always full of matches and since I live across the street I can hear the tennis balls from sun up to sun down. The pool area is beautifully maintained and offers a snacks and adult beverages at the window of the main building. I must admit, the pool is where you'll find me mostly. Can't beat a heated pool this size. The restaurant is immaculate and always bustling. The food needs a little tending too, it always seems to have "Yacht Club Sauce," on everything so dubbed by what we call it. It all starts tasting the same but the specials are usually something you can't go wrong with. I highly recommend joining. At the moment they are offering fee options over a year or so that appeal to a younger audience on a tighter budget instead of an all at once fee.

Was a nice relaxing atmosphere. Food was great too!

Been to many weddings and events here over the years. (My own wedding reception was here 20 years ago!) beautiful venue for special events and the food is always delicious. It is a private club so you have to know a member to go here or hold an event here. Great service as well!

The Tampa Club History and Founding

The original architect of The Tampa Club was M. Leo Elliott , a prominent Tampa architect who was known for his work in the Mediterranean Revival style. Elliott designed the club’s original building, which was completed in 1913. The building is a six-story brick and concrete structure with a red tile roof and a variety of Mediterranean Revival features, such as arched windows and doorways, wrought iron balconies, and a terra cotta facade.

The Tampa Club was founded in 1890 as a social club for the city’s business and civic leaders. The club’s original building was located on Franklin Street, but it was outgrown by the early 1900s. In 1910, the club purchased land at the corner of Franklin Street and Ashley Drive, and they commissioned Elliott to design a new building.

The new Tampa Club building was completed in 1913, and it quickly became one of the city’s most prestigious landmarks. The club’s members included many of Tampa’s most prominent citizens, including businessmen, politicians, and socialites. The club hosted a variety of events, including dinners, dances, and meetings.

The Tampa Club has been renovated several times over the years, but it has retained its original character. The club is still a popular gathering place for Tampa’s business and civic leaders. It is also a popular venue for weddings, banquets, and other special events.

In 2010, the Tampa Club commissioned the architectural firm Cooper Johnson Smith to design a series of renovations and improvements to the building. The renovations were completed in three phases, and they included the reconstruction of the marina, renovations, and additions to the pool complex, the addition of a new outdoor bar, and the replacement of the club’s kitchen.

The Tampa Club is a historic and cultural landmark in the city of Tampa. It is a testament to the city’s rich history and its vibrant business community.

St. Pete Yacht Club to be torn down, rebuilt in 5 years. Here’s why.

  • Bernadette Berdychowski Times staff

Hurricane Ian was a wake-up call, said St. Petersburg Yacht Club rear commodore Joe DiVito.

For several years, St. Petersburg Yacht Club leaders discussed options to renovate the century-old downtown facility on Beach Drive. But after the devastation of yacht clubs farther south in the Fort Myers area from the Category 4 storm originally forecast to hit Tampa Bay , DiVito said they had to act.

“Hurricane Ian was a message that said, you need to plan for the future if you’re going to spend this much money,” DiVito explained.

Their plan? Tear down the yacht club and start anew.

But demolition won’t happen soon. The St. Petersburg Yacht Club is thinking five years ahead, said DiVito, who’s third in command and the club’s appointed project spokesperson. The downtown organization, which has about 2,500 members, needs to raise funds for a project that could cost up to $40 million, find a temporary replacement home and finalize architectural designs to have the rebuilding completed by 2028.

Membership fees would go up from $50 to $125 a month to help finance construction costs, DeVito said.

He added the new building would incorporate the same Mediterranean architectural style as the current club.

The waterfront yacht club at 11 Central Ave. was originally constructed in 1917 and has had several renovations throughout its history. In 1921, it was hit by the last major hurricane to make landfall in the Tampa Bay region, which caused extensive flood damage to the building, according to club archives. Membership still increased after that storm, and the building extended its clubhouse in 1922.

Many parts of the building are now on their last legs, DiVito said. And with a bustling downtown, members wanted more amenities.

Remodeling would be too expensive because the waterfront building isn’t up to newer Federal Emergency Management Agency standards to be insured in case a storm hits. Starting fresh would allow the building to comply with those standards and add amenities and more parking space for a growing membership.

“Looking at the damage of the hurricane and how we’ve been lucky for almost 100 years, it doesn’t make any sense to put $15 million into a building that’s at major flood risk of being hit,” DeVito said. “And you lose all that money and have to start over again because flood insurance doesn’t pay dollar for dollar.”

Premium Boats

Better Than A Used Boat

Many boaters looking for an affordable boat, buy a used boat, hoping to enjoy the boating lifestyle for less money. But used boats often come with baggage. A worn-out engine, gremlins in the electrical system, rotting hoses and other unseen problems. Typically, they don’t have the latest electronics, and modern equipment, rarely a joystick, or a working head and almost never a gyro stabilizer. There’s nothing like a new boat!

Serving A Need In the Industry

“The Club’s program is an incredible option for our family. It’s like owning our own boat, but way easier. The cost is similar to other boating programs, but what you get is a whole other level. If you compare their costs versus owning a boat of this caliber, there’s no contest.” Sovereign Boat Club Member Tom S
“I’ve been a member of a mass-market boat club for over ten years. It was nice for a period of time, but their vessels were mediocre and not suited for my needs. It was also not convenient to wait 1 month out, at minimum, for a boat on the weekend. The Club’s Pursuit DC266 is a premium boat and I can always use the boat when I want it.” Sovereign Boat Club Member Tim T
