The 2022 Azimut charter yacht SEA OWL is a sleek and speedy yacht built to perfection for experiencing the on-water lifestyle. The yacht’s hull design was penned by PL AUSONIO Naval Architecture alongside Azimut’s R&D department. Her exterior design and concept is by Stefano Righihi while her interior was designed by Achille Salvagni Achitetti. Her open-plan layout, expansive windows and sophisticated furnishings create an elegant atmosphere that every charterer will enjoy.

SEA OWL’s main salon is accessed from the aft deck, which features a cozy alfresco seating space that welcomes guests to relax with a morning coffee or late-night cocktail. A large sliding door leads into the salon, where guests are greeted by huge windows to either side, giving the impression of extensive interior volume. This is SEA OWL’s main indoor conversation and lounging space. The 55” TV, three plush white couches to port and a seating area to starboard make for the coziest locale for a movie night with family and friends. Forward is the formal dining space that offers unbeatable views of SEA OWL’s cruising grounds. The attention to detail on her interior is second to none, with special attention paid to the modern light fixtures and ultra-comfortable furnishings.

Charter yacht SEA OWL comfortably welcomes eight guests in five well-appointed staterooms. The master suite is full-beam and located on the main deck. It can be accessed via a hallway forward of the galley. Floor-to-ceiling windows border either side of the bed. The master en-suite bathroom is spa-like, adorned in marble with double sinks and a large standing rainfall shower with a marble bench. SEA OWL’s four additional staterooms are found on the lower deck and can be accessed via a set of stairs. Two queen VIPs are located aft, a twin stateroom is forward to port and a queen cabin is to starboard. Each one of SEA OWL’s cabins features a bedside table, reading lights, a full-length mirror and wardrobe and a private en-suite with standing rainfall showers. Four professional and experienced crewmembers are onboard to cater to each guest’s every need.

SEA OWL’s sleek, dynamic and modern exterior profile makes her a head-turner on the water. Her aft deck is a welcoming, covered area for alfresco lounging and dining. A deep, plush settee surrounds a dining table while forward to starboard, a TV hidden in the ceiling makes itself available when requested. Her flybridge boasts a retractable sunroof for full sun exposure or the option to unwind in the shade. This space is sure to be the favorite guest hang out spot with a full bar, a dining table, forward-facing pilot seats and loungers aft. Basking in the sun with a cocktail in hand while the Chef prepares lunch on the barbeque is the reality while chartering onboard SEA OWL. 5 New Options for Mediterranean Yacht Charter

Five notable yachts just became available for charter in the West Mediterranean, with plenty of time left to book itineraries before the current season is over.

First up is Zazou , a 213-foot Benetti that launched in 2021. It’s new to the charter fleet at Y.CO, with plans to base in the South of France and Corsica. This is the first time that Zazou is being opened for charters, with availability beginning mid-August.

“Ideal for families, she is elegant and sophisticated thanks to her stunning interior,” Sioned Williams of Y.CO Charter Management stated in a press release. Notable features include a gymnasium, treatment room, outdoor cinema and beach club. Accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms.

Y.CO also just welcomed the new-for-2024 Benetti Dyna to the charter fleet in the Mediterranean. Dates are available in September and October.

Accommodations aboard Dyna are for 12 guests in six staterooms. Amenities include a main-deck pool, a cinema, a spa and a master stateroom with a private balcony.

“ Dyna is a particularly fine example of the B.Now 50m Oasis model,” Yasmine Naitijja of Y.CO Charter Management stated in a press release. “No expense has been spared in the finishes throughout. The spa area is a real onboard highlight, as is the large main-deck pool, while the stylish Novamarine Black Shiver chase boat offers enhanced exploration.”

Also now available in the West Mediterranean is Alma III , a 97-foot Azimut that was just delivered to the owners from the shipyard in June. It’s part of the Fraser charter fleet and will have availability in August from Sardinia.

According to the Fraser team, Alma III is the only Azimut Magellano 30 currently on the charter market. Exterior design is by Ken Freivokh, and accommodations are for 10 guests in five staterooms. The master is full beam on the main deck.

In the IYC charter fleet in Greece, guests can book the 82-foot Maiora El Pecado , which became available earlier this summer. The yacht is a 2014 build that IYC’s team says is in “impeccable condition” with accommodations for as many as nine guests in four staterooms.

Notable features and equipment on El Pecado include low fuel consumption and at-anchor stabilizers for guest comfort.

Also in Greece with IYC is the 107-foot Custom Line My Mistake , a 2023 build that accommodates 10 guests in five staterooms. The IYC team notes that this yacht has a child-friendly setup, meaning it is a good choice for bookings with families.

Top speed aboard My Mistake is reportedly 26 knots, which should make short work of cruising between the Greek Isles while leaving more time for fun at anchor and in harbors.

When does the Mediterranean yacht-charter season end? The high season is over at the end of August, but with nice weather, the cruising in some parts of the region can be terrific well into October.

Fisherman towed by fish, catches 135-pound tuna in Raritan Bay

O ne would be hard-pressed to recall the last time a bluefin tuna was caught in Raritan Bay but it happened Wednesday when a 135-pound bluefin took Steve Nosti of Holmdel for a Nantucket Sleighride - around Flynns Knoll and through the Sandy Hook Rip in Nosti's 12-foot aluminum Jon boat, the Silver Bullet.

Nosti, who works in the charter industry and has a permit for such fish, had seen the bluefin in tight to the beach and left from his dock slip at Pleasure Bay Yacht Basin in Oceanport after sunrise to try to get one. He was outfitted with an 80-pound class tuna rod and reel and some Ron-Z lures. He called it "a shot in the dark."

It's about an 8 or 9 mile ride from the marina to the tip of Sandy Hook, so Nosti said he stopped at Bahrs Landing in Highlands to fuel up his 12-gallon tank. Then he was off to area known as the Rip, where the bay and ocean currents collide.

Nosti said the water temperature Wednesday morning was 75 degrees and there were a ton of bluefish and small baitfish in the Rip, which most likely explains the presence of the much larger bluefin tuna. It did not take long for one of the bluefin to be lured by the flashy jig darting in and out of the water and make a run at it.

Nosti said he was on the bay side of the rip when the reel started to hum. Once hooked up, the bluefin towed him for a couple of miles toward the ocean. As the fish pulled, the Jon boat acted as drag with Nosti gaining line until he had the big fish boat side where he could gaff it.

On his way in, Evan Bremner at Pleasure Bay Yacht Club snapped a picture of Nosti in the boat with the big tuna.

The bluefin haven popping up in several locales and fishing grounds from the beach out to the Chicken Canyon and some of the wrecks even further east. Fishermen's Headquarters in Ship Bottom reported one even washed up in the surf on Long Beach Island. It's reminiscent of the stories the old salts tell of horse mackerel, or giant tuna, shredding the pound nets set up in the surf.

Capt. Chris Dos Santos of the Sea Owl got one on Wednesday as well. He took a ride to test out the new fuel injection line he installed before a scheduled tuna charter he had on Thursday. He checked a few inshore spots before running about 90 minutes from Manasquan Inlet. He said the area was loaded with sandeels.

He trolled ballyhoo through the bait and soon the rod was screaming with a runaway 200-pound bluefin tuna. The fish was decked and Dos Santos spent the rest of Wednesday handing out tuna steaks.

Fishermen dodge rain clouds, land bluefin tuna and fluke

Fishermen dodged rain clouds a few times and returned with some noteowrthy catches, including a big, inshore bluefina tuna.

It could have better but the main thorn in their side of fishermen continues to be the stubborn south wind. It's kept the water colder than captains would like, especially those that are routinely out trying to put a catch together for large parties.

The water temp in Belmar on Monday was 61 degrees according to Surfline , which monitors surfing conditions, though off the beach the surface temp is a little warmer. Fishermen should get a brief respite from the south wind by mid-week when NOAA forecasts the direction will switch to west.

The weekend though was not all doom and gloom. The Sara Beruta charter was out with with Capt. Chris Dos Santos on his Sea Owl on Sunday and landed a 180-pound bluefin tuna. Dos Santos said he headed south out of Manasquan Inlet and caught the fish while trolling a purple skirted ballyhoo on an inshore lump. He said they had other bites.

Capt. Freddy Gamboa on the Andrea's Toy Charters had an open boat trip Sunday for striped bass that did not disappoint. Gamboa said anglers each caught their keeper striped bass while fishing on the bunker pods. They had multiple opportunities with the fish, as they more than once had two fish on a time that resulted in some catch and release.

The bluefish were hard to find again. Capt. Rich Falcone on the Golden Eagle said they hugged the beach Sunday, following the bunker but could not raise a bluefish. He said they changed plans, went out and got people their sea bass and then reeled in some ling for the day.

The fluke fishing was temperamental at best. Capt. Ron Kish on the Capt. Cal 2 said the weekend morning drifts weren't too lively due to cold water. He said it took some warming up before the fluke started to bite. He was out Monday morning and already had a few keeper fluke and sea bass in the boat early fishing north of Shark River Inlet.

Jingle's Bait and Tackle in Beach Haven reported a catch of a 5.6-pound fluke on the Garden State South reef. The shop said surf anglers are also catching a lot of kingfish on Long Beach Island. There haven't been any reports of kingfish north of LBI, yet.
