Find the virgin islands vacation perfect for you.
Visiting the British Virgin Islands means direct flights into St. Thomas from a number of major US airport hubs and easy private jetport options and then a short ferry or water taxi ride into the BVIs.
The Virgin Islands has the largest number of charter yachts to choose from in both size and style. Inclusive pricing and the best values compared to any other location make the VIs the most popular charter destination .
The 35 mile island chain of British Virgin Islands has options — from busy harbors to quiet out of the way spots but always with clear blue Caribbean sea. Plus lots of calm tranquil anchorages!
Enjoy the BVI aboard Gypsy Princess , a 45 ft Lagoon. This popular charter yacht has 3 queen cabins with ensuites, both forward and aft cockpits, a fly bridge and a social salon. Recycling is a breeze for this certified green team, a clean team and dream team, with innovative fun ideas and locally sourced food sublimely served. Biff and Amy between them are instructors in the skills of: sailing, powerboating, waterskiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding and paddle boarding.
Tortola, BVI 2020
Chartering a BVI yacht gives you the freedom to forget the stresses of modern life. Board your charter yacht at Nanny Cay Marina just a mini sail to a choice of several overnight anchorages. Lunch, sail, snorkel, happy hour, dinner – you will effortlessly glide into the quality of a tailormade liveaboard vacation . Circumnavigate Tortola with a crew to familiarize you with the secret hideaways and popular hotspots around the BVI. Anegada, North Sound – the millionaire’s playground – and the Baths for the scenic beauty. Jost Van Dyke is a must with White Bay being home to aqua waters and the Soggy Dollar Bar (because you must swim ashore) or the famous Foxy’s in Great Harbour.
Leave your watch and phone in your cabin for your swim ashore only to realize three days later you never even thought to pull them out again!
Bagheera is a big spacious beauty of a cat. 4 queen cabins make this a perfect fit for either a group of 8 adults or a family. The crew of 3 believe in having fun and in the motto “he who has the most toys” wins. It is a registered fishing vessel but also has a whole host of other equipment for a fun-filled charter.
Travelers diverge as they make their choices – there is no set itinerary. Depending on where you start and whether the tradewinds are slightly north of east or slightly south, you could start with the southern route heading to the outer islands of Norman, Peter, Cooper, or Salt. If you sail up the north shore you may choose Cane Garden Bay, Sandy Spit, or Camenoe. Still to explore are Trellis Bay, Virgin Gorda, and onto Anegada. With more than 60 small islands and bays, you may return again and again to visit old favorites and explore new hideaways.
Elysium , a majestic Privilege 615 cat, has three cabins, each with an ensuite to define comfort afloat. Attention to detail and elegant woodwork are the hallmark of this yacht. Elysium caters for the fun-loving and adventurous, with vibrant crew, Matt and Tara, who have more than ten years’ experience at the helm. With a collective wealth of knowledge of watersports, food, and exploring, they look forward to welcoming you on board!
Islands strung like a necklace curve over 35 miles from St. Thomas, USVI in the west into the British Virgin Islands ending at Anegada. The eastern tip of the British Virgin Islands join the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. Nature’s bounty has gifted the Virgin Islands with islands to shelter the sailor from large ocean swells and provide numerous options for calm harbors, white sand beaches and reefs that can be easily spotted in the bright tropical sun.
Start at Trellis Bay, Beef Island Airport in the heart of the island chain and head north to Anegada, after a stop at North Sound, to find deserted swathes of empty beaches. Leave your signature footprints in the sand. Dine and dance barefoot under the stars, it is all part of your unique experience of the outer islands.
Paddle boarding, snorkeling, or scuba diving are all optional activities from your floating vacation in the Virgins. Perfect for sailing, never out of sight of land with your next stop just a short distance away, the Virgins define easy living.
This Lagoon 62 has 4 queen cabins, lounging areas and a fly bridge with a wine fridge. 3 crew enjoy regular rave reviews for both delectable cuisine and lots of energetic watersports activity. Silver service, sailing and the sea will help you de-stress, relax and recharge.

Are you looking for a place to recharge, relax, and set your spirit free? If so, the U.S. Virgin Islands should be at the top of your sailing vacation list. This chain of 50 Caribbean islands offers a picturesque oasis for sailing and yachting that you’ll never want to return from.
St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands is considered the sailing capital of the Caribbean. The beautiful waters, ideal wind conditions, and favorable temperatures make it perfect for both novice and experienced sailors alike. If this is your first sailing vacation, choose the U.S. Virgin Islands for an unforgettable experience as you navigate the waters by sailing boat or catamaran.
12 Knots offers both bareboat and crewed yacht charters for anyone interested in visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands. We offer two types of boat rentals with the option to either skipper your own sailboat or have one of our crews take care of the heavy lifting. 12 Knots takes care of every detail of your trip to ensure your sailing vacation is truly relaxing.
The U.S. Virgin Islands have a variety of activities both in the uninhabited islets and cays, as well as on the largest islands of St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John, and Water Island. The archipelago was settled by Europeans from several counties, making the culture of the U.S. Virgin Islands an exciting blend from around the world. The U.S. Virgin Islands offers plenty of shopping, seafood, and wildlife adventure to enjoy during your stay.
St. John has a beautiful national park that is perfect for hiking and taking a relaxing swim on the shore of Trunk Bay. Many consider Trunk Bay to be the most beautiful of all beaches in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is a must-see whether you sail to it or begin your trip on St. John.
For a glimpse of history, you may drop an anchor at St. Croix and visit the Estate Whim Plantation Museum. This restored plantation house rests on 12 acres of picturesque hills and shows what Caribbean life was like during colonial days. St. Croix also sits on a large coral reef, perfect for a day mooring and half-day of snorkeling.
If rent a yacht in St. Thomas it will also offer you some of the best duty-free shopping selections in all of the Caribbean. Whether you’re looking for local boutiques or designer clothing and electronics, St. Thomas is the place to go for most of your shopping. As you walk along Main Street, you’ll find everything you need.
The U.S. Virgin Islands are known worldwide for their ideal sailing conditions. The northeastern trade winds are strong in the wintertime, but otherwise you can expect calm waters, warm temperatures, and an overall pleasant sailing experience. The weather is warm year-round with an average temperature between 75ºF and 82ºF.
The seas range from three to four feet throughout the year, and wind speeds average from 10 to 25 knots throughout the year. The Christmas winds reach the highest speeds and allow an experienced skipper to sail for several days back to back. However, if you are a novice sailor, springtime will provide easier sailing conditions.
Typically the winter and early spring months are the best times to sail in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The trade winds are strongest in December, January, February and the beginning of March. The weather is nice and cool, but can be a bit chilly for swimming. If you want to venture into the Virgin Islands on a bareboat charter, this is the best time to go.
However, if you are a novice sailor or interested in a crewed yacht charter, the spring and early fall months can be a good alternative. The winds are typically less strong in the summer and June to August are the best months for swimming since the water temperature rises significantly. This period also offers best prices for yacht charters however you should be aware of possible weather changes as this is a beginning of the hurricane season that usually runs from August to October.
The fall offers wind speeds of 10-15 knots on average which can be perfect for beginners to navigate the seas by sailing boat or catamaran. However, this is when the hurricane season is strongest, so be careful about when you plan your sailing trip. Fall can be ideal for crewed yacht charters in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
If you consider yacht charter for Christmas or New Year we strongly recommend to make all arrangements and bookings far in advance. The number of charter boats in US Virgin Islands is quite limited and usually prices second half of December significantly go up. But if you make boat reservation 6 or more months in advance you may get good early booking discount.
Sailing the U.S. Virgin Islands is ideal for beginners and experienced skippers alike. Depending on the season you can experience relaxed sailing or more challenging conditions. The U.S. Virgin Islands offers a variety of calm bays, short passages between the islands, strong trade winds, and vast expanses of water to tailor your experience to your skill level.
Line of sight navigation, moderate waves and consistent trade winds, will make novice sailors feel most comfortable in the U.S. Virgin Islands as opposed to other Caribbean areas. Most of the major islands are close together, so you won’t have to sail for more than a few hours between them.
Almost all yacht charters in the U.S. Virgin Islands will start in St. Thomas. Main charter bases are located in Compass Point and Red Hook marina, offering professionally maintained sailing boats, catamarans and power boats for bareboat rentals. This is the perfect place to begin your sailing trip due to it’s close proximity to other major islands that offer plenty of experiences to enjoy. Sets you up your sails for an unforgettable adventure on the new sailing boat or catamaran in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The region of the U.S. Virgin Islands offers relatively easy sailing conditions. Because of this, you may find here a variety of sailing boat rentals of different sizes and types that may fit best the level of your experience. Below are the links some boat types with prices available for bareboat rent:
Because most of the yacht charters in US Virgin Islands start from St. Thomas, we recommend flying directly to this island, booking a resort a day or two before your trip. This will give you some time to explore Magens Bay Beach, schedule an ecotour of the island’s rich natural landscape or simply relax and buy all necessary groceries for the upcoming sailing vacation.
As you travel by sailing boat or catamaran, the nearby St John is a great place to anchor and stop for incredible snorkeling, diving, and beach bumming for an afternoon. More experienced sailors can venture to St. Croix, which may take 4-6 hours of sailing depending on the weather conditions. This could also be good chance for novice sailors to master their skills if they have professional skipper on board.
U.S. citizens do not need a passport or visa to enter the islands, while non-U.S. citizens must follow all travel protocols for the U.S. mainland. If you are a non-U.S. citizen, be sure to check with your health insurance provider to ensure they cover overseas medical care. Medical facilities are available for most of the larger islands of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
No matter what kind of sailing itinerary you choose, new experience on board of your yacht in the U.S. Virgin Islands will be one for the books. This group of islands is favorite among sailing community because of its endless beauty and opportunities to explore. This review is over due in writing, because it’s been almost a month since we had the most incredible time with this precious company, who took my family and I out on their beautiful boat for the day! Everything was beyond amazing! Mariah the first mate, was so attentive and kind to all of our needs, she totally went over and beyond! And captain Ethan, was so kind and incredibly knowledgeable about where to sail and snorkel that would meet all our desires! He is a captain that truly cares about his passengers and also went over and beyond in helping us with anything we needed! They are both purely amazing! Our time snorkeling and sailing was the absolute highlight of our trip! Thank you so much Ethan and Mariah, hope to see you guys next year!!! God Bless you both!
One of the best ways to experience the USVIs is by sailboat and Blue Dream Charters did not disappoint. We booked a private charter for two days of our vacation where Tommy + Erin showed us some of the most beautiful spots in St. Thomas + St. John. The views were stunning and the snorkeling was so fun. We stopped by a few popular spots and visited hidden gems, learning history + fun facts along the way. Tacos + pizza for lunch were perfect after afternoons spent swimming. What made this trip so special - we were able to bring our two small dogs with us. Tommy + Erin were so accommodating and sweet to them and we were able to make some fun memories. Thanks for everything, Blue Dream crew! 💙
We had such an amazing time celebrating my brothers 30th birthday! Tommy and Luke were the absolute best, we could not have asked for better service. We had a group of 8 and there was plenty to drink and eat for our entire group and our cups never ran empty! We are already planning our trip for next year and we will definitely be booking with Blue Dream again! We seriously can’t thank them enough for such an incredible day!! Highly, highly recommended!!!
Six of us had a wonderful private charter out of Cruz Bay last week. Captain Will was knowledgable and accommodating of our diverse snorkel group, providing close supervision to those who needed it. Jarred (sp?), his first mate, was a wealth of information about the history, landscape, marine life and local culture peppering information into informal conversation throughout. We sailed, visited a couple of beautiful reefs we could not have accessed via Jeep on St. John, and enjoyed a very relaxing day on the water together. We got some great photos and will remember this experience as one of the highlights of our visit. Thanks Tommy and company for the memories made!
Captain Tommy and his crew catered to our every whim as they dodged the rainstorms and found the perfect, quiet, beautiful anchorage where they produced a delicious meal of fresh mahi or chicken tacos with all the fixings. The boat was extremely comfortable and spacious and a wonderful spot to relax and enjoy a special birthday. The margaritas were excellent, and they kept them coming. It was truly a perfect evening. Thank you guys.

Us virgin island yacht charter.
A yacht charter in the US Virgin Islands is a fantastic way to explore the beauty of the Caribbean, and getting to the USVI is so easy, with direct connections from many major US Cities. Fly directly into St. Thomas and start your charter from Charlotte Amalie Harbor.
Nearby, St. John offers top-notch snorkeling at Trunk Bay, dubbed one of the world’s most picturesque beaches , and upscale vibes at Caneel Bay.
Down south in St. Croix, Christiansted offers cool colonial architecture and a lively scene, while Fredericksted is perfect for sunset views and calm dives.
You can also jump across to the British Virgin Islands . It’s just a short sail to Tortola and Virgin Gorda, where the iconic Baths National Park awaits.
Note that not all charter yachts have permits to cruise in the BVI , so make sure you check this with your broker beforehand.
As for the types of yachts, you have a range from sailing yachts and catamarans to motor yachts , with catamarans being particularly popular for their stability, spaciousness, and affordability.
We have also seen a growing demand for luxury experiences , which has brought bigger and more luxurious motor yachts to the USVI. These yachts offer high-end amenities like Jacuzzis , spas, gyms, and l arge selections of water toys like jet skis and even mini submersibles, essentially serving as floating luxury hotels.
Note: while the BVI has a ban on Jet Skis, the USVI does not!!

Our Charter Brokers
World-Class Diving & Snorkeling
The US Virgin Islands are world famous for their clear, turquoise water, ideal for underwater exploration. There is a lot to see: vibrant coral reefs teeming with fish, turtles, rays, and reef sharks.
Chartering one of our many yachts featuring onboard scuba gear gives you easy access to some of the best dive sites in the Caribbean , including iconic locations like Trunk Bay , Buck Island , and the RMS Rhone wreck .
If diving isn’t your cup of tea, the shallow waters of the Virgin Islands are also perfect for snorkeling or even exploring the reef from the comfort of a paddleboard.
US Virgin Yacht Charters with Scuba Gear
The Caribbean’s Biggest Yacht Selection
The US Virgin Islands offer a diverse selection of crewed yachts , including catamarans , motor yachts , and superyachts . The only place that really compares is the Mediterranean, but on this side of the Atlantic, the US Virgin Islands are ahead.
The US Virgin Islands is especially a popular destination for luxury travel, and in the last few years, we have seen a significant increase in larger motor yachts to satisfy the many who are seeking a more extravagant charter vacation.
(The USVI holds one major advantage over the BVI: Its water is much deeper , allowing for larger yachts. This is why almost all larger motor yachts are based in the USVI , even those that charter in the BVI.)
Itineraries inc. both USVI & BVI
Our yacht charters in the Virgin Islands often combine both the US and British Virgin Islands , offering a diverse itinerary and the chance to see more amazing destinations.
Starting and ending in Yacht Haven Grand on St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, charterers can hop across the border with a quick immigration check-in and explore popular destinations in the BVI, such as Norman Island , Tortola , Peter’s Island , and Virgin Gorda .
It’s worth noting that many larger yachts, even if chartered in the BVI, commence from Charlotte Amalie Harbor in the USVI, as the harbors in the BVI are too shallow to host large yachts.
Best 7-Day Virgin Island Itinerary!
When selecting a yacht, there are several factors that should be considered:
Our Charter Brokers bring extensive firsthand experience, having served as crew members, captains, or chefs on yachts in the past. This knowledge equips them with the insight needed to assist you in making the perfect decision for your US Virgin Island yacht charter.
But let’s take a closer look at the different yacht types and their advantages:
Catamarans are the more affordable choice , offering more space compared to monohulls. Their shallow draft allows them to navigate in the shallow waters around the USVI and the BVI, significantly increasing their cruising grounds.
We are also seeing catamarans becoming bigger and more luxurious, and they are now starting to compare to some larger motor yachts in terms of space and amenities.
See all Catamarans →
Motor yachts are the choice for those who wish to see more in a shorter time . The higher speed of motor yachts gives you more flexibility, and you can simply fit more into your itinerary.
You can find motor yachts of all sizes, ranging from small motorboats suitable for bareboat charters to mega superyachts with luxurious amenities like jet skis , Jacuzzis , scuba gear , and onboard cinemas.
See all Motor Yachts →
Sailing yachts are also available and are a great option for those who wish for a more traditional experience with sailing in focus—the weather conditions are definitely ideal for it!
But sailing yachts also do come with some limitations, as the water in the Virgin Islands, especially in the British Virgin Islands, is very shallow , and monohulls generally are deep drafted , limiting where they can go and how close to the beaches they can anchor.
See all Sailing Yachts →
When planning to charter a catamaran in the US Virgin Islands, there are two main options to consider: APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance) yacht charters and All-Inclusive yacht charters .
When choosing between an APA yacht charter and an all-inclusive yacht charter, clients should consider their desired level of customization , budget flexibility, and overall vacation experience. Both options offer unique advantages, and understanding the regional differences in the Mediterranean and Caribbean will help clients make an informed decision to ensure an unforgettable yachting vacation.
An APA yacht charter is popular for clients seeking a customized, high-end experience. In this charter arrangement, the client pays a base fee for the yacht rental and crew. On top of this base fee, an advance provisioning allowance (APA) is added, typically around 20-30% of the yacht’s base rental cost. This APA is intended to cover expenses such as food, beverages, fuel, marina fees, and any other costs that might arise during the charter.
In contrast, an all-inclusive yacht charter offers a hassle-free experience with a set price that covers all expenses related to the yacht, crew, food, beverages, and activities. Clients can relax and enjoy their vacation without worrying about additional costs or budgeting for unexpected expenses. Nevertheless, the issues are the same as in a luxury All-inclusive resort – you can’t have a hot tub full of Moet…
Out of the many places we offer yacht charters, we are confident in claiming that the US Virgin Islands (USVI) offer some of the most sought-after destinations in the Caribbean . From the natural beauty of St. John , with its secluded beaches, lush hillsides, and captivating hiking trails, to the vibrant culture of St. Thomas , home to the bustling capital of Charlotte Amalie , there is something for every craving.
There remember, there is also the option to expand your cruising ground to include the British Virgin Islands next door, with famous destinations such as the Baths National Park on Virgin Gorda, Tortola Island, Jost Van Dyke, and many more.
Contact one of our expert brokers to learn more about what yachts have the paperwork to cruise between the two island groups.

As one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, you will love this landscape of pink granite slabs, hidden coves, cathedral-like caves, and shimmering saltwater pools, all perched on the edge of the sea.
The boulders have been adorned with ladders and ropes so you can climb and cross this natural obstacle course.
Wallow in the warm rock water pools, soak up the sun on your favourite boulder, and be enchanted by the natural grottos.
When you need a hint of refreshment, the nearby yacht club will tempt you in with long lavish lunches and afternoons being pampered at the spa.
DISTANCE: 23nm DURATION: 2 hour
Anegada is a coral island and the northernmost island of the BVI group. It should not be missed thanks to its beautiful white sand beaches, quaint beach shacks, and the large horseshoe-shaped reef that protects its immaculate shores.
This unique island is the only inhabited island in the British Virgin Islands that is not volcanic. This low-lying island, with the highest point of only 28 ft (8.5m), is made up of coral and limestone and is surrounded by one of the world’s largest reefs.
The island is also known for its large salt ponds which used to be home to thousands of flamingos which were caught for food and their feathers during the 19th & 20th centuries. They have recently been re-introduced to the island and the population is flourishing. Anegada also boasts several species of turtles and the endangered rock iguana.
DISTANCE: 17nm DURATION: 1.5 hour
Named by sailors who would pass through these parts and assume that the noise of barking seals was actually dogs, Dog Island boasts five uninhabited islands sitting west of the Virgin Gorda.
George Dog offers a national trust mooring, and with exceptional visibility, a movie-set-like backdrop, and a local favorite lunch spot, it’s a must for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.
Beneath the blue, you can swim alongside rays, garden eels, the brightest shoals of fish, and wise old turtles.
The other dogs have no real beaches to speak of, but for those who want to visit a number of top-tier snorkelling spots, including Bronco Billy, which is rumored to be a favorite of Jacque Cousteau’s, the dogs are a dream
DISTANCE: 18nm DURATION: 1.5 hour
Named after an early Dutch settler, Jost Van Dyke is a small picturesque island northwest of Tortola. At 4 miles long, the island is home to only a few hundred permanent residents and is known for its idyllic yacht anchorages.
Connect yourself with the local culture at White Bay – a magical place of positive energy in BVI yacht charters and a famous meeting place for sailors.
Swim from your boat to the famous Soggy Dollar bar for a painkiller. Hang out in the hammock in Hendo’s Hideout, get a roti or seafood, and relax on the beach. Weekends are more party-like, with day trips from USVI filling the beach bars.
DISTANCE: 7nm DURATION: 40 min
Cruz Bay is the perfect place to finish off a Virgin Island yacht charter for those who are craving a little civilization after the serene anchors at some of the Virgin Islands’ most remote cays. The main town on the island is where you will find a wealth of ritzy restaurants, boutique shops, buzzing bars, and high-class hotels.
As the largest commercial hub on St John’s and with over two-thirds of the island being a national park, this is where the action and cultural offerings are centered. Guests can catch local art and history at the Elaine Ione Sprauve Museum.
For those who want to follow their passion for outdoor pursuits, there’s snorkeling at the nearby Hawksnest Bay and 4X4 land adventures by jeep.
Located on the northern shores of St. John, Maho Bay offers a serene retreat for yacht charters seeking respite in the beautiful nature. With its turquoise water and white beach voted “Visitor’s Favorite Beach ,” Maho Bay provides an ideal setting for both relaxation and exploration. Charter guests can also enjoy activities such as snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs , kayaking, or paddleboarding along the coastline.
Our #1 recommendation for Maho Bay is a snorkeling trip to see the sea turtles and rays that feed in the sea grass just off the beach.
Along the eastern shoreline running out to the point separating Little Maho from Maho Bay Beach, you will find patches of reef with a wide variety of corals and abundant marine life. The water is shallow (between 3 to 10 feet deep) , giving snorkelers easy access to the coral, which includes species such as purple sea fans, sponges, anemones, and hard corals like Mustard coral, brain corals, and Elkhorn. You will also find a diverse fish life , with many varieties of wrasse, damsel, tangs, parrot fish, angelfish, and lionfish.
Along the western shoreline between Maho and Cinnamon Bay , you will also find excellent snorkeling opportunities, with coral and fish becoming more plentiful further from the beach. Snorkeling in shallow waters ranging from 3 to 12 feet deep, even novice snorkelers can enjoy a variety of marine life. While snorkeling, keep an eye out for Nurse sharks , which are slow-moving and not a threat but should not be disturbed.

Visit Francis Bay and you will find yourself on one of St. John’s longest beaches . This beautiful beach has calm waters and a lovely, sandy shore. On weekdays, this beach is not too crowded, and it is easy to find a private spot.
The Francis Bay Trail runs along the salt pond located just inland of the beach and is an excellent place for bird watching , especially early in the morning.
The best snorkeling in Francis Bay can be found on the eastern and western ends. They provide some ideal snorkeling opportunities . It’s not uncommon to see green sea turtles near the seagrass beds on this part of Francis Bay Beach.
You can also find other marine life common in the Virgin Islands like rays , colorful fish like honeycomb cowfish and butterflyfish, and plenty of coral. If you’re lucky you might catch sight of squid. You need to diligently look out for them as they’re not always easy to spot among the many different places in the Virgin Islands National Park.

A yacht charter vacation to the US Virgin Islands is both fantastic and convenient. Positioned in close proximity to the US mainland, the USVI provides easy accessibility for travelers, with frequent direct flights from major hubs like Miami, New York City, Boston, and more.
One distinct advantage of selecting the USVI as your yacht charter destination is its status as US territory . This ensures a smooth and stress-free experience for charter guests, as they encounter no hurdles with border crossings or unfamiliar customs procedures.
For those looking to extend their stay before or after their yacht charter and explore the land, the USVI offers many accommodations that meet US standards of luxury and comfort. Unlike the British Virgin Islands (BVI), where villas are more common, the USVI has numerous hotels and luxury resorts operated by well-known US chains .

344 Crewed Luxury Yachts for Charter in the Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands (BVIs) and the U.S. Virgin Islands yacht charters are widely considered to be two of the world's finest cruising destinations. Having long attracted discerning travellers, the waters which surround the picturesque island chains boast outstanding views and enjoy a year-round warmth. Virgin Island yacht charters are particularly popular during the winter charter season, a stunning selection of mega yachts can regularly be seen cruising around this world-famous Caribbean island paradise.
Commonly referred to as ‘the BVIs’, British Virgin Island yacht rental vacations are popular for sailing yacht charters. Indeed, with steady trade winds, calm waters, and bright blue skies, there a few places better to unfurl a sail and enjoy the experience of being carried along by nature. As well as being a paradise for the intrepid sailor, the BVIs are also a perfect destination to explore from the comfort of a motor yacht . The vast array of untouched bays and dive sites, for example, are all easily accessible to motor yachts no matter how large they may be. Typically, those visiting the area on board a yacht will also make time to enjoy the mainland attractions found on Tortola. The largest of the British Virgin Islands, this destination boasts a remarkable selection of restaurants, bars, and boutique stores. Equally popular amongst the SuperyachtSet, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke are home to well-equipped harbours and suitably positioned anchorages.
Lined with white sand beaches which look out across cobalt blue waters, renting a yacht in the US Virgin Islands is simply bliss. Just as revered as their British neighbours, the major islands here include St Croix, St Thomas , and St John. Usually, superyacht charters in the U.S. Virgin Islands will begin and end at St Thomas as the main port is located here. The capital of the islands, Charlotte Amalie, is also located on St Thomas and is home to a range of outstanding bars and restaurants. With numerous historic towns, national parks, and romantic retreats found around the surrounding islands, there’s plenty to see and do in this part of the world. Ideal for families as well as groups of friends, a charter vacation in the U.S. Virgin Islands can be styled to meet the needs of any party configuration.
A yacht charter itinerary in the Virgin Islands can combine both the US and British Virgin Island. The pristine beauty of St. John is a popular starting point for charters here, and will include stunning hotspots like Norman Island, Tortola, Peter's Island, Virgin Gorda and North Sound.
When planning a private yacht charter vacation in either the BVIs or the U.S Virgin Islands, consider what kind of activities you’ll be keen to try out. If you’re interested in snorkelling, for example, you might want to think about heading out to the British Virgin Islands. On the other hand, if you’re more inclined towards hiking trails and untouched beaches, the U.S Virgin Islands might be a more appropriate choice. To find out more about the incredible possibilities on offer, be sure to take a look at our example itineraries here .

To understand the prices listed in this article, it is important first to understand what an All-Inclusive Yacht Charter BVI means. –In yacht charters, two main contract types are used: CYBA ( Caribbean Yacht Brokers Association ) and MYBA ( Mediterranean Yacht Broker Association ). CYBA contracts, common in the Caribbean (all catamarans and some motor yachts), are all-inclusive except for gratuities and are in the industry referred to as “Caribbean terms.” MYBA contracts, used globally, are “plus expenses,” meaning fuel, food, and dockage are extra and handled through Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA).
Unless specified under the Special Conditions , the total all-inclusive charter fee includes:

This 88-foot Nordlund Motor Yacht with accommodation for 6 guests is really great value for money and has excellent client feedback ! Honestly, there aren’t many luxury yachts of this size and standard at this all-inclusive price! Prime Time is, therefore, also a very popular boat fully booked out every year; it is, therefore, important to reserve her in good time.
Prime Time is owned and skippered by American ex-navy Captain Joe Standish , who has lived and chartered in the BVI since 1999. Joe runs one of the oldest charter businesses in the BVI ; needless to say, his local knowledge and experience are second to none.
The second crew member onboard Prime Time, Michael, has worked many years on cruise ships and local cargoes and was on the water when Hurricane Irma hit the Caribbean—here is a good story to be told.
The crew wants people to be comfortable and act like they would at home: “We are very laid back. Our company motto has always been ‘Come as Guests…Leave as Friends…’ That still holds true while running Prime Time, but we have added a new one for the niche we plan on filling in this industry, ‘Yachting on a Beer Budget.’ With that mentality, we also want our guests to ’embrace the local culture,’ which is why we only do breakfast and lunches onboard. We believe that a yacht charter here in the BVI is so much more than just being on a beautiful boat for 7 days. Your Crew wants you to enjoy the things that ‘we do,’ whether that be local BBQ or fish fry, drinks on the beach, or just chilling on your own private beach. We will make your time with us a memorable one.”
“Another fantastic trip! Captain Joe and Mike are so friendly, full of knowledge, and a great time! We wouldn’t travel on another boat in the BVI. Great food and drinks, and lots of laughs! Capt. Joe took us to all the spots on our list and a few more. If you have ever wanted to charter a boat to see the Islands, Prime Time is the only way to do it! Already looking to book again for next year.”

If you are looking for a more classic yacht, this 82-foot Horizon motor yacht, Qara, might be for you. Qara underwent a full refit in 2023 , and her beautiful all-wooden interior is in excellent condition – look through the pictures to see her stunning, classic cabins.
Along with her nautical look, Qara comes with a great list of on-water activities; she’s got a Jacuzzi on the back deck next to the outdoor barbeque. And she’s got a great collection of water toys, including water skis, wakeboard, sea scooter, kayak, floating mats, snorkel gear, underwater camera, and beach games.

Chef Beth Basinski has spent 15 years perfecting her craft on luxury yachts, blending her love for food with a focus on wellness. Her meals are all about making you feel good, inside and out.

Although not technically a motor yacht, I wanted to showcase a power catamaran to demonstrate what you can expect in terms of space and amenities— comparable to a motor yacht that’s 15-20% larger . Blessed compares to a motor yacht approximately 92 to 96 feet in length.
So why choose Blessed among the many power catamarans in the Caribbean? Blessed is a brand-new, 80-foot Sunreef catamaran built in 2024 at the Sunreef factory in Gdansk. The design and construction were overseen by Tim Miller and Julie Brown, who also run the yacht as Captain and Chef, so they really know the yacht inside out!
Blessed is 80 feet long and can accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 cabins –4 masters and a double–all with en-suite bathrooms. It is ideal for a large group of friends or a big family gathering.
Blessed is truly a grand yacht both in terms of space and interior design – the main saloon and galley are like a penthouse. The best must be the flybridge, which features a Jacuzzi , a wet bar, 2 refrigerators, 2 ice makers, and a 55” smart TV. With multiple locations for sunbathing or enjoying the shade, this space is designed for ultimate relaxation (and the occasional dance party)!
Blessed’s Toy Garage easily deploys into the water from the hydraulic swim platform , providing effortless access to exciting adventures with the foils, Seabobs, or snorkeling! Or, enjoy a refreshing cocktail on the 10’ inflatable pool deck. Blessed also has SCUBA gear onboard , and Captain Tim happens to be a Dive instructor .
This catamaran is, through and through, a really amazing yacht that easily rivals a motor yacht in terms of luxury.
Note: BVI Ports only (No USVI pick up/drop off or US charters).

*New Year charters cannot start before December 29, 2024. Christmas charters, including those between December 19th and 27th, must end by December 27.
Synergy was just awarded multiple awards in the BVI Charter Yacht Society 2023 boat show, including:

On the flybridge, you have a big dining table, a wrap-around couch, and a Jacuzzi for sunset views . She cruises comfortably at 10-15 knots with a max speed of 22 knots, so she will get you to places. Plus, she has stabilizers for a smooth ride.
With a 26′ tender, seabobs, a floating cabana, and Starlink internet , it’s perfect for a high-end, connected getaway. The crew of four ensures you’ll have top-notch service throughout your charter.

The luxury yacht Angeleyes was recently featured on Netflix’s hit series, The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals , in Episode 3: Boats ‘N Floats. This episode showcases Angeleyes as the “luxury” option, with the hosts highlighting its spacious on-deck master suite, stunning outdoor spaces, and exceptional 5-star service provided by the crew.
With Angeleyes’ extra-wide beam (25’ vs. the usual 18’), the yacht offers unmatched interior space and comfort, making it ideal for groups of couples.
The episode emphasizes the personalized attention from the crew, including gourmet meals by Chef Jenn and unforgettable experiences arranged by Captain Darrel, such as private beach picnics and water sports.
Angeleyes was unanimously voted as the favorite rental by the show’s hosts , cementing its status as a top luxury charter option.
“Vacation of a Lifetime! We just got back from our epic vacation with family and friends aboard the Angeleyes Yacht! The yacht is luxuriously beautiful with its gorgeous interior. The rooms are incredibly spacious, each having its own luxurious bathroom stocked with everything you may need. The outdoor areas provided so many areas to sit and relax, eat meals with a view, or relax in the hot tub overlooking the beautiful blue waters. The staff is beyond amazing! Jen made sure we never went hungry on the table’s ever changing place settings. The food was beyond delicious. From chocolate croissants, pulled pork salads, fish tacos, to Frito pie for these Texans with hungry teenage boys. Remi made sure we were never without an activity to do or a delicious drink in our hands. He is also a very talented “merman” who can find a fish and a turtle anywhere! Darrell is an extremely knowledgeable captain who not only got us to beautiful places to anchor, but also provided us with many jokes that kept us laughing. Some of our highlights…We went snorkeling above a sunken barge and along shoreline where we saw so many colorful fish. We went swimming with sea turtles and also came across a beautiful eagle ray and a puffer fish. Remi took the kids tubing and gave them jet board lessons. Not only did we take advantage of what the ocean had to offer, we also hit up some of the hot spots on the beautiful Islands such as Soggy Dollar, Foxy’s, and The Willy T. Here, we had a blast drinking island cocktails and dancing the night away! My family can’t thank the owners and the crew of Angeleyes Yacht enough for a vacation of our lifetime! ❤️🛥”

“a great luxury yacht with focus on local culture – from sea to platter style cuisine”.
If you’re keen on fishing or simply relish the thrill of catching your own dinner , Midnight Moon is perfectly equipped. The yacht comes with all the necessary deep-sea fishing gear, complemented by a crew who are both skilled in fishing and passionate about cooking your catch.
The reason I put Midnight Moon this high on the list is because it is a really fantastic all-around yacht with everything you need for a 1-week or more luxury charter vacation with a real taste of the Caribbean. With 1 master and 3 VIP cabins accommodating up to 8 guests, she is a great option for a group of friends or a family trip.
She’s got a swim platform, a sweet water toy collection, a deck Jacuzzi , a great crew of 3, and a fantastic seafood-focused menu . You are in for a real Caribbean treat!
All-inclusive weekly rate:.
There are many reasons why I have selected this yacht as number 1 on the list: At 135 feet and three decks high, it has all the space needed for a big group charter without feeling crowded at all. Plus, she accommodates 12 guests , which is perfect for a big group of friends or two families sharing a luxury charter.
The interior is simply stunning—classic, elegant, and bright . The light wood, white carpets, and chic furniture create a modern, airy vibe, topped off by a gorgeous chandelier that adds a touch of glam.
The cabins are equally impressive. With a master suite, four VIPs, and one twin, there’s plenty of room to spread out and storage space is more than ample–I honestly don’t think you can overpack for this yacht vacation.
The flybridge is fantastic on Stay Salty; there is both a seating area, sunbathing loungers, and a fully equipped bar . There is another bar inside, so you don’t have to walk far for a cocktail.
With a crew of 8, including a masseuse offering massages anywhere on the yacht or even on the beach, you’re in for some serious pampering.
In conclusion, this yacht is absolutely brilliant!

The 55 Bali was great as we were the first paying customers. Beautiful boat with plenty of room. The Captain and first mate were great. Food was top notch and so good that we opted to not do 1 shore dinner and just ate on the boat. We saw and did everything that we set out to see. I would repeat in a heartbeat.

Exotica Charters is a premier yacht charter company owned by DMA Yachting, a renowned international yacht charter group, focusing on charters in exotic locations. New areas have become available due to total adoption and leveraging of a new technology.
United States - September 19, 2024 —
The availability of yacht charters was long dependent upon available marinas that allow for resupply after every charter. As the average size of a crewed charter vessel increased from 45 feet to 90+ feet, they could hold much more supplies. Nowadays, there are only 2 items that need to be restocked frequently - fresh produce and water. Since most charter locations burst with fresh fruit and fish, only water needed to be solved.
myBVIcharter is the leading US yacht charter company offering a robust fleet of catamarans and motor yachts in the British Virgin Islands. The classic weekly itinerary sees all the yachts depart on Saturday in a counterclockwise direction towards Virgin Gorda and Anegada, looping on Tortola on the way back, with the last leg from Jost Van Dyke.
Depending on the day, yachts used to move like the “Spanish Armada”. As yachts started to adopt the water maker, they suddenly had more options to start from almost anywhere, as guests could be picked up on a tender. This means that travelers can start their charter on day 3, staying ahead of the main fleet while on the same itinerary.
In Greece, the effect is twofold as explained by Mo, the Charter Guru at myGreekcharter . Firstly, there are new ways to discover classic locations. Since the first yachts started allowing Santorini pickup/dropoff, other yachts chose to follow suit. Santorini does not have a marina, and the pickup with a tender was a game changer. The amount of water needed for 15 people made daily stocking impractical and the yachts chose to start and finish in Athens.
Secondly, new charter areas in Greece have become available. As new yachts continued to arrive, the Athens’ marinas were full around 2022. The new yachts needed to find new marinas. A fundamental question - “why do we need a marina?”, led to yachts operating in areas previously not touched by the crewed yachts - Sporades and Dodecanese islands.
As Daniel, the owner of DMA Yachting, explains, ”We’re seeing first 3-4 crewed yachts permanently stationed in the Sporades and 8-10 yachts in the Dodecanese. Previously, you had to charter from Athens and ideally take a 2-week charter. This is no longer the case - you can start almost anywhere.”
The situation with the motor yacht Bahamas is similar. The previously Nassau-centric model, where all yachts started in Nassau and went for a weekly “milk run” charter to the Exumas, is challenged. “People don’t want to charter in the same spot twice”, explains Mo. “With 2,400 Cays, why not start in Eleuthera or even Long Island? And if the charterer wants to start in Staniel Cay, why get there from Nassau? Start the charter there!”
The water maker is not a new technology. It’s been around for a long time. It’s the innovative use, wide adoption, and necessity to spend less or no time in the marina that made the yachts offered by myBVIcharter behave differently.
According to Daniel, owner of the DMA Yachting group comprised of myBVIcharter, Exotic Charters, Bahamas Motor Yachts & myGreekcharter, the adoption of water makers skyrocketed from a humble 30% to a whopping 100% in the last five years.
Due to over-tourism and overcrowding in mainstream locations, people seeking intimate retreats are becoming increasingly more interested in exotic spots like Thailand, Raja Ampat, Galapagos or Antarctica. A water maker onboard is the key technological change that made these new locations feasible.
Exotica Charters , a yacht charter specialist in emerging and remote locations owned by DMA Yachting, has also observed increasing deployment of water makers in its fleet. “We’re suddenly able to create completely new itineraries, as we can do a route ABCD instead of A to A. You can get picked up in B and dropped off at C a week later. We’re seeing multiweek charters covering huge distances, especially in the Med: Sardina/Corsica, France to Italy to Malta, Ionian to Turkey in Greece.”
From Polynesia, South East Asia, to the “newly discovered” Greek islands such as Skopelos and Kalimnos, through innovative ways to discover known Caribbean islands such as Anegada or Jost Van Dyke, the water maker and human resourcefulness are leading the yacht charter market development.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Hannah Staddon, a 31-year-old private chef who works onboard the Mucho Gusto , a luxury charter in the British Virgin Islands. It has been edited for length and clarity.
I've been in the industry for around 13 years. I started as a yacht stewardess in the Mediterranean. I worked as a stew for about three years before gravitating toward the kitchen.
At one point, a chef I was working with didn't enjoy baking — but I was pretty good at it. That jumpstarted my interest in cooking, and I saved up through another season to put myself through chef's school back in South Africa, where I'm from.
I worked as a crew chef for a 160-foot yacht for a bit, but I realized I didn't even really like crew cooking because they just made food in big batches.
I cooked for 10 to 14 people daily for about four or five months. But I was getting burned out, and I wanted to be creative and make small, beautiful things.
So, my partner and I started looking for a boat together, and we ended up working together on board Mucho Gusto.
It's been seven years, and we haven't looked back.
I get up at about 6 a.m. As soon as I wake up, I start prepping pastries, laying out the tables, and getting our guests coffee.
I usually make a continental spread for breakfast with homemade granola yogurt, fruit plates, and pastries. Then, I'll have a hot option for the day, like eggs benedict or waffles.
I like cooking light and healthy food. So I do spreads, sometimes with homemade focaccia, and then a protein, depending on the guests' preferences.
I also try to source most of my produce from local farmers and fishermen.
Lunches vary between plated salads and buffet-style courses. I whip up homemade ice cream, so there's always a selection available for dessert at lunch.
I start prepping dinner at about 5 p.m. and usually serve it at around 7 p.m.
Depending on how active the guests have been, I may serve a little snack plate before dinner, like some fresh fruits or a charcuterie board.
By about 7 p.m., once all the guests have showered and are ready for dinner, I'll have set the table. Dominic, meanwhile, serves sundown cocktails.
Unless guests request a lighter meal, we usually do three courses — starters, mains, and desserts. I've gotten good reviews for my sushi spreads, in particular.
My homemade pasta is also generally a winner.
Sometimes, I make black pepper and truffle pasta with sauteed mushrooms and a big wagyu steak. People go nuts for that, so I must be doing something right.
We have an age limit of 12 on board the yacht. But at that age, many kids still have a limited palate, so food looks like chicken nuggets and chips or pizza all week. They generally only eat maybe two or three different meals.
Generally, mums communicate their preferences to me. So, I ensure that chicken nuggets and chips are stocked on board and heat them 20 minutes before meals.
After dessert, we clean up, stack the dishwasher, and prep for the next day. If I need to make focaccia dough or I'm doing cinnamon buns the next morning, I've got to make all the dough that evening.
After that, I can typically go to bed, which could be any time between 9:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
Something I've enjoyed about the job is that I get to be a lot more involved with what's happening outside the kitchen,
If you're confined to working in a kitchen all day, you can feel detached from what happens outside it. And in a restaurant kitchen, you're often making the meal you've been told to make, as opposed to getting to be creative.
That's different on a yacht. I get to understand the guests and build relationships with them. And that's my favorite part of the job.
Seven years after Hurricanes Irma and Maria swept through the British Virgin Islands, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake, Virgin Gorda is back. Some things have changed, but the essence of the island — long heralded as one of the most beautiful places in the British Virgin Islands — remains intact, so it's time to revisit the stunning island .
Located about 80 miles east of Puerto Rico, Virgin Gorda is the third largest in a string of about 60 islands that stretches along an archipelago between the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. Widely known as a premier sailing destination due in part to the proximity of individual islands creating a natural barrier that channels the steady trade winds while moderating their impact on the water, the British Virgin Islands caught the eye of the recreational sailing community in the mid-20th century. Virgin Gorda, in particular, drew sailors to its well-protected North Sound, where crystal-clear waters lap gently at the shore.
Three men who figured prominently in the development of Virgin Gorda as a vacation destination were part of that sailing community — Laurence Rockefeller, Basil Symonette, and Bert Kilbride. Each, in their own way, contributed to the laid-back tone that continues to define Virgin Gorda more than half a century later, making it especially appealing to both free-spirited sailors and landlubbers seeking friendly fun in the sun.
Symonette, an avid yachtsman who frequented Virgin Gorda's North Sound, purchased a one-mile stretch of shorefront acreage in the 1960s. He opened a bar, built five simple cottages, and christened the property The Bitter End. At about the same time, Rockefeller, a philanthropist and avid conservationist, was building Little Dix Bay, a luxe-but-simple resort on the other side of the island. A stone's throw from Bitter End, Kilbride was offering dive courses from a base at Saba Rock. Pirates' Pub, a thatched-roof beachfront bar, cemented the island's reputation as a go-to hangout for the region's sailing crowd.
While the dual hurricanes leveled all three of the island's earliest resorts, the current owners of each of these locations resolved to honor the founders' original visions during reconstruction, sticking with the Caribbean-casual attitude that has prevailed in Virgin Gorda since tourism took hold in the 1960s. The newly renovated Saba Rock and Little Dix Bay (now a Rosewood property) are welcoming guests again. The Bitter End Yacht Club, owned by the Hokin family in the 1970s and expanded over time to include about four-dozen hillside cabins, has been gradually reopening with a renewed focus on Symonette's vision of servicing the local sailing industry.
One thing that hasn't changed at all post-hurricane is Virgin Gorda's stunning natural beauty. In addition to the expansive vistas visible from atop its volcanic peaks, The Baths at beach level are among the island's biggest draws. Formed millions of years ago when molten rock oozed into layers of volcanic rock where it gradually cooled and set, the rocks were eventually exposed to the elements. Over time, sharp edges have softened to graceful curves, creating a labyrinthine landscape of towering boulders, crystal-clear tidal pools, and enchanting passages for vacationers to explore.
Other must-see points of interest around the island include the ruins at Copper Mine. The recently dedicated national park, located on a promontory on the island's southeast corner, centers on the remnants of a mid-19th-century copper mine and community settled by miners from Cornwall, England. For a good hike, head to Gorda Peak National Park, where trails lead to the highest point on the island. If you're into snorkeling, a daysail with one of Virgin Gorda's charter companies is an absolute must. Explore the kaleidoscopic underwater world at The Baths or head to premier snorkeling destinations at Spring Bay, Savannah Bay, Mahoe Bay, or at the nearby rock formation known as The Dogs.
When it comes to dining, Virgin Gorda's roster of eateries and watering holes runs the gamut from bohemian casual to romantic fine dining, including several options that offer unparalleled vistas. Located on a hill overlooking The Baths, Top of the Baths is a destination in its own right. There's a bar, restaurant, and on-site swimming pool. And since it's located at the trailhead for The Baths, it's the ideal setting for post-exploration tipple. Set on a hilltop overlooking North Sound, Hog Heaven is another island mainstay. The casual open-air eatery has a well-earned reputation as the place to go for barbecue and sunsets. If your plans call for a fancier setting with a stellar view, head for Sugarcane at Nail Bay. Reinvented after the 2017 hurricanes destroyed the original structure, the one-time burger joint reopened in 2019 as a more upscale eatery with poolside dining and great views.
Spanish Town has long been Virgin Gorda's main shopping destination, but the newly renovated Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbour, a mall-like development on the island's west coast, is gaining traction.
