Atlantic Yacht for Charter

From €110,000

Key specifications

  • Length 64.4m (211ft)
  • Builder Graafship

The ATLANTIC sailing yacht blends modern capabilities and classic lines to transport you back to Edwardian sophistication but with a few contemporary twists.

A faithful rebuild of the 1903 William Gardner-designed schooner, ATLANTIC has meticulously mirrored the racing lines of her namesake and boasts an updated interior perfect for a luxury charter.

The original ATLANTIC yacht was one of the most iconic sailing yachts in the world. She broke the record for the fastest crossing from New York to Cornwall, clocking up 341 miles in 24 hours and reaching a top speed of 14,1 knots. ATLANTIC held onto the mono-hull record until 1998

The replica is designed to share her speedy potential, and during a recent trans-Pacific voyage, she reached an average of 15 knots on several days.

The new ATLANTIC is a faithful reproduction that extends the legacy of the original, which managed to break loose from her moorings and sail back to see without a single person on board. She ended up being broken up in the early 1980s.

Interior Design & Engineering

One of the updates to the ATLANTIC yacht is her light-filled interior. The addition of skylights breaks up her expansive teak deck and illuminates her main deck.

You can dine in style in the classic dining room or sit around the long table in the period-style room for a more formal Edwardian experience. Push aside the thick drapes, and you’ll find yourself in the main salon of this luxury superyacht, where you can lounge on the L-shaped red velvet sofa as you enjoy an evening game and a nightcap.

Twelve guests can be accommodated during an ATLANTIC yacht charter, sleeping across a grand master, two double cabins, and three twins.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

It’s clear to see the racing prowess of the ATLANTIC yacht when you’re standing on her deck. You can take in the ocean views while reclining on the sunpads, soak up the sun from a deck chair, or enjoy an al fresco meal around the table.

Toys & Crew

A crew of 11 will oversee your ATLANTIC yacht charter.

When you want to head ashore or explore the coastline, you have two choices: hop in the RIB to race across the waves or explore under your own steam with her 12ft sailing dinghy.

If you want to maximise your fun on the water, you can go on the water skis and bumper rings or rent toys like Jet Skis.

  • Six beautifully designed cabins
  • The ultimate classic sailing experience
  • Proven world-girdler. Fast, safe and comfortable
  • Passionate and experienced Captain and Crew

Couple Who Attempted to Cross Atlantic Found Dead in Lifeboat

James Brett Clibbery and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood, had left Nova Scotia on June 11, bound for the Azores. The authorities recovered remains believed to be theirs earlier this month.

The bodies of two sailors who planned to sail from Nova Scotia to the Azores using green energy were found washed ashore at a Canadian national park this month, four weeks after they were last seen, the authorities said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police responded to calls on July 10 that a 10-foot inflatable lifeboat containing human remains had been discovered on Sable Island National Park Reserve, according to a news release from the agency .

The authorities did not identify the remains, but said they believed they were those of a 70-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman from British Columbia. A Facebook post by the man’s son, James Clibbery, later identified them as James Brett Clibbery and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood, who had left Halifax Harbor in Nova Scotia on June 11 bound for the Azores. They were reported missing on June 18.

“The past few days have been very hard,” the younger Mr. Clibbery said in the post, adding that DNA tests would be carried out to confirm their identities. “With all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful.”

“There isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained, passing,” he said.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said it was investigating the deaths. A spokesman for the agency did not immediately return a request for comment on Monday.

Sable Island is a “thin crescent of shifting sand” that is about 180 miles southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Canadian government said , adding that the area is widely known for its variety of wildlife and its proximity to more than 350 shipwrecks.

The couple had chronicled much of their sailing activities and travels on social media.

In a video on their YouTube channel , Theros Adventures, the elder Mr. Clibbery said they had named their trip to the Azores “The Green Odyssey” to show it was possible to travel without burning fossil fuels. Their 42-foot GibSea sailboat was powered by electricity and solar energy, the couple said.

“It is to show that you can travel, and you can do long distances without burning fossil fuels, without climbing onto a plane and filling the air with carbon dioxide,” Mr. Clibbery said.

In their final post on social media on June 11, Mr. Clibbery, wearing a bright orange jacket with his silver hair tossing in the wind, described how the trip was just beginning.

With his hands steady on the helm, he took note of their speed and the distance they had so far traveled. Mr. Clibbery then looked at the camera and said with a smile, “We’re sailing.”

Couple found dead on Atlantic’s ‘Graveyard Island’ while sailing across ocean

Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood were found dead on a remote island in the Atlantic Ocean (Picture: Facebook)

A couple who were trying to sail across the Atlantic Ocean have been found dead washed up in a lifeboat on a remote island.

British musician Sarah Packwood, 54, and her husband Brett Clibbery, 70, were attempting to make their way from Nova Scotia, Canada , to the Azores.

They set sail on June 11 on their 42ft wind and solar-powered yacht named Theros but were reported missing a week later after contact had been lost with the boat.

Their bodies were discovered in a three-metre life raft on Sable Island – a stretch of land dubbed the ‘graveyard of the Atlantic’ around 180 miles east of Nova Scotia – last week.

It’s not yet known how the couple got into trouble on their 2,000-mile voyage from North America to the Portuguese islands, which lie around 870 miles west of mainland Europe.

Brett, a Canadian, was carrying a Garmin GPS device which reportedly pinged a final signal on June 13 around 40 miles south-west of Sable Island.

Police in Halifax have launched an investigation into their deaths.

The couple were attempting to sail from Canada to Portuguese islands the Azores (Picture: Facebook)

Sable Island, which is a long and thin area of land stretching around 28 miles, gained its nickname as the Atlantic’s graveyard for the sheer number of people found dead there through history.

More than 350 shipwrecks have been recorded since 1583, according to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which says the island is near a major shipping route, lies on a common storm path and is surrounded by ‘tricky’ currents.

It’s home to hundreds of wild horses, manned by just a handful of federal government staff with no permanent residents, and is a protected National Park Reserve.

The pair first met at a bus stop in London in 2015 and got married on their yacht one year later before also holding a Celtic marriage ceremony at Stonehenge.

Sarah, who was from Warwickshire and said to be an ‘accomplished sailor’, later moved to Canada with Brett and they lived on land they bought on Salt Spring Island, near Vancouver.

The pair married in 2015 (Picture: Facebook)

As they embarked on their journey, the couple shared a video on their Facebook page, Theros Sailing Adventure, and wrote: ‘Captain Brett and First Mate Sarah set sail on the 2nd leg of The Green Odyssey on board Theros – GibSea 42 foot sailboat.

‘Powered by the wind and sun. Heading east to the Azores.’

Brett’s son James Clibbery paid a heartbreaking tribute to his father on July 13.

‘The past few days have been very hard,’ he wrote on Facebook.

Timeline of Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood’s disappearance

  • June 11: The couple set sail from Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada on their 42ft wind and solar-powered yacht named Theros.
  • June 13: Brett’s Garmin GPS device pings a final signal around 40 miles south-west of Sable Island.
  • June 18: They are reported missing after contact with the boat was lost and a Coastguard search begins.
  • July 10: Their bodies are found washed up on a three-metre life raft on Sable Island, 180 miles off the coast of Nova Scotia.
  • July 13: Brett’s son James pays tribute to his father and confirms both Brett and Sarah have died.

‘My father James Brett Clibbery, and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood have regrettably passed away.

‘There is still an investigation, as well as a DNA test to confirm, but with all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful.

‘I am so very sorry to the people who were friends of them. They were amazing people, and there isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far unexplained passing.

‘Living will not be the same without your wisdom, and your wife was quickly becoming a beacon of knowledge, and kindness. I miss your smiles. I miss your voices. You will be forever missed.’

John Dolman, a friend of the couple, told local news outlet Times Colonist that they died doing ‘the thing they loved’.

He said: ‘She called him “captain” and called herself the “carpenter’s apprentice”. They were in love. They passed away doing the thing that they loved. Their adventure continues on the other side.’

Sarah Packwood and Brett Clibbery were found on a raft washed ashore on Canada's Sable Island, local media says - as Mr Clibbery's son confirms they had "regrettably passed away".

Sarah Justine Packwood and Brett Clibbery

A couple who had embarked on a mission to sail across the Atlantic Ocean have been found dead in a lifeboat off the coast of Canada.

Brett Clibbery and Sarah Packwood were found after their raft washed ashore on Sable Island, around 108 miles southeast of mainland Nova Scotia, local media said.

It is believed Ms Packwood was from the UK and Mr Clibbery was from Canada , although the Royal Canadian Mounted Police initially reported they were both from British Columbia.

Formal identification is yet to take place.

The pair were heading to the region of Azores - an autonomous region of Portugal - having left Halifax Harbour on 11 June on board their yacht named Theros, Canadian police said.

The couple were reported missing on 18 June and found three weeks later on 10 July.

In a post on Facebook, Mr Clibbery's son James confirmed the pair had died.

"The past few days have been very hard," he wrote.

"My father James Brett Clibbery, and his wife, Sarah Justine Packwood have regrettably passed away.

"There is still an investigation, as well as a DNA test to confirm, but with all the news, it is hard to remain hopeful."

Documenting their journey from Canada to Europe, Ms Packwood and Mr Clibbery had uploaded regular videos to a YouTube channel called Theros Adventures.

They dubbed their latest adventure the green odyssey, a nod to the yacht being powered by a battery from an electric Nissan Leaf car and six solar panels.

Watch: Whale of New Hampshire slams into fishing boat, hurling men into the Atlantic

A whale was mid-breach when it hit a small boat off New Hampshire, causing the vessel to capsize and hurl two fishermen overboard in a matter of seconds.

Colin and Wyatt Yager, two teenage brothers from Maine on a neighboring vessel, took to social media Tuesday to share the footage, which has been reposted multiple times in the past few hours, according to reporting by Seacoastonline, part of the USA TODAY Network.

One video in particular has garnered over 4 million views and hundreds of comments since it was posted, with a caption that warns area residents to beware of a “pissed off whale” patrolling the waters of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

“Head on swivel if you’re out there,” the caption says.

The teens "swiftly rescued" both fishermen after their boat capsized off Odiorne Point in Rye, New Hampshire, U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson Diolanda Caballero told Seacoastonline.

Wyatt Yager wasn't initially worried about the whale, telling Seacoastonline that all of the boats stayed along the edge of the school of fish so the whale could feed. But it got a little too close to the vessel, causing it to tip over.

"I was just in shock. Everyone else had the same reaction and tried to get over to those people," he said. "It was like, 'Oh shoot,' and then, 'We’ve got to go help these people.' All the boats dropped what they were doing to go over to help them."

Neither the men thrown into the ocean, nor the whale, were injured, Caballero said.

USA TODAY has reached out to the Coast Guard for comment.

'It's been an emotional day,' fisherman says

The Coast Guard caught wind of the capsized vessel Tuesday morning, which had been tipped over in Rye, a few miles northeast of Portsmouth, Seacoastonline reported. The teens were fishing for menhaden, also known as "pogies" a little after 7 a.m.

The whale crashed into Greg Paquette and Ryland Kenney's boat about an hour later after they spotted the aquatic mammal, immediately launching both men into "fight or flight mode" after they were thrown into the water, Seacoastonline reported.

“I heard a big crackle,” Kenney told the newspaper. "When that happened … the bow tipped up and I went to the left and as (the boat) was rolling over I kind of jumped off horizontally to avoid the whale and the boat.”

The last thing Paquette remembers seeing before being thrown into the water was the whale's head, which slammed down on the engine of the boat.

“Then I saw the whole stern become inundated with water and I thought, ‘Oh no. We’re going down. We’re going to sink now," Paquette told Seacoastonline. They managed to swim away from the swamped boat in a matter of seconds and became very tired after the initial "energy and adrenaline" wore off.

"It's been an emotional day," Paquette said.

The men stayed in the Yagers' boat for about 15 minutes, then the brothers dropped them off at a nearby friend's vessel before the Coast Guard arrived, according to Wyatt Yager. Paquette and Kenney were transported to Great Cove Boat Club in Eliot, Maine, after the breach, the two fishermen said.

Both men were in the water for less than two minutes before they were rescued, with 19-year-old Wyatt and 16-year-old Colin stepping in to help.

"We’re glad they took such quick action," Paquette said. "They didn’t even think about it. We’re really grateful to both of them."

Internet reacts, exchanges memes

While the whale seemed to have made a pretty big splash, Colin Yager’s reaction to the “breach” has inadvertently caused the most attention.

Multiple people have commented on Colin’s reaction, pointing out how quickly his instincts kicked in.

“Kid's like ‘I want to go home now,’" one user wrote. Another said, “That kid had the right idea lol turned around and was ready to book it.”

A user named Daisy Evans wrote that the “incredible scene” was the result of “unfortunate timing,” pointing to the way the whale was breaching under a school of baitfish next to the boat.

“You can actually see dozens of fish pouring out of its mouth as it impacts the boat. The whale was not attacking,” she wrote.

Whale capsizes boat, tosses passengers overboard into ocean in New Hampshire

NEW HAMPSHIRE -- An amazing and frightening wildlife moment was caught on camera Tuesday.

A whale suddenly breached the ocean's surface and slammed into a boat, causing it to capsize.

At least two passengers on the boat were tossed into the ocean.

It happened off the coast of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

A teen from Maine was fishing nearby with his older brother at the time of the incident.

16-year-old Colin Yagar happened to be filming the water when the whale breached.

No one was injured in the incident.

When deciding what size yacht to choose for an Atlantic crossing, there are several key factors to consider.

The number of people on board, the size and type of the crew, and the length of the voyage will all factor into the size of yacht you need.

A larger yacht will provide more space and comfort, but will also require more fuel and crew to manage.

It’s also important to consider the route of the crossing, the type of weather that is expected, and the type of emergency services available along the way.

The size of yacht should also be determined by the purpose of the crossing and the preferences of the crew.

For instance, if the purpose of the voyage is primarily recreational and the crew is smaller, then a smaller yacht may be more suitable.

On the other hand, if the purpose is more commercial and the crew is larger, then a larger yacht may be the better choice.

The type of vessel is also important.

Sailboats, motorboats, and catamarans all have different requirements for size, fuel efficiency, and crew.

For instance, sailboats require larger masts and rigging, which can limit the size of the vessel.

Motorboats, on the other hand, can be larger and can travel faster, although they also require more fuel.

Catamarans are typically the largest vessels, but they also require the most crew and are the most difficult to maneuver in rough seas.

Finally, the length of the voyage is an important factor.

A longer voyage requires more fuel, supplies, and crew, so a larger yacht may be necessary.

Additionally, a longer voyage may require more sophisticated navigational and safety equipment, so it’s important to consider the type of emergency services available along the route.

In conclusion, choosing the right size yacht for an Atlantic crossing requires careful consideration of several factors.

The number of people on board, the size and type of the crew, the length of the voyage, the route, the type of weather, and the type of emergency services available all need to be taken into account.

Ultimately, the decision should be based on the purpose of the voyage and the preferences of the crew.

Number Of People On Board

yacht named atlantic

When deciding on the size of yacht to choose for an Atlantic crossing, the number of people who will be on board should be the first factor taken into consideration.

The size of the yacht should be able to comfortably accommodate the number of passengers and crew members, with enough space for sleeping, eating, and lounging.

Any extra space that may be needed for storage should also be taken into account.

It is important to note that larger yachts will require more fuel and crew to manage, and may be more expensive to maintain.

Therefore, it is important to make sure that the size of the yacht matches the needs of the voyage and the crew.

Size And Type Of Crew

When selecting the size of your yacht for an Atlantic crossing, it’s important to consider the size and type of the crew.

If there will be a large number of people on board, a larger yacht is likely required to provide enough room and comfort.

On the other hand, a smaller yacht may be more suitable for a smaller crew.

Additionally, the size and type of crew will determine the type of personnel needed to manage the yacht.

For example, it may be necessary to hire a captain and crew if youre crossing a large body of water.

If the crew consists of experienced sailors, a smaller yacht may be sufficient as they will be able to handle all of the boats operations.

Its important to consider the number of people on board, experience level, and the amount of space available when selecting the size of yacht for an Atlantic crossing.

Length Of Voyage

yacht named atlantic

When deciding what size yacht to choose for an Atlantic crossing, one of the most important factors to consider is the length of the voyage.

A longer voyage will require a larger yacht to provide more space and comfort for the crew and passengers.

On a longer voyage, there may be more people on board, providing a need for additional sleeping and eating areas, as well as more room for recreational activities.

Additionally, a larger yacht will be able to carry more supplies, such as food, fuel, and spare parts, making it more self-sufficient and able to handle any unforeseen events.

It is important to consider the route of the crossing, as some areas may be more prone to rough weather or dangerous conditions, and a larger yacht may be better equipped to handle these conditions.

A larger yacht may also require more fuel, as well as a larger crew, to manage the vessel.

Ultimately, the size of yacht will depend on the purpose of the crossing and the preferences of the crew.

Fuel And Crew Requirements

When deciding on the size of yacht to take for an Atlantic crossing, it’s important to factor in the fuel and crew requirements.

A larger yacht will require more fuel and crew to manage, especially if the voyage is longer.

The crew size and type should also be taken into account when deciding on the size of yacht.

A larger yacht will require more crew to manage the vessel, and the crew should be experienced and knowledgeable in seafaring and navigation.

It may also be necessary to hire extra crew members for certain tasks such as cooking, engineering, and maintenance.

Additionally, the yacht should be equipped with the necessary safety equipment such as life rafts and flares, as well as navigational equipment such as depth sounders and GPS.

All of these factors should be considered when deciding on the size of yacht for an Atlantic crossing.

Route Of Crossing

yacht named atlantic

When deciding on the size of yacht for an Atlantic crossing, it is important to consider the route of the crossing.

For example, a longer voyage from the United States to Europe will require a larger yacht than a shorter one from the Caribbean to the United States.

A larger yacht will provide more space and comfort, as well as more fuel and crew to manage.

Additionally, the route of the crossing should be considered for emergency services that may be available along the way.

For example, if the voyage will be close to land, there may be medical facilities and emergency services that could be reached in the event of an emergency.

However, if the voyage will be far away from land, it is important to consider the type of emergency services that would be available if needed.

Weather Conditions

When deciding what size yacht to choose for an Atlantic crossing, it is essential to consider the weather conditions that may be encountered during the voyage.

A larger yacht is more likely to be able to handle a variety of weather conditions, such as high winds, heavy rain and strong waves.

The size of the yacht should also be considered when it comes to the type of weather expected.

A larger yacht is more suitable for long-distance voyages, as it is more capable of handling the prolonged and potentially extreme weather conditions.

It is important to note, however, that larger yachts may require additional fuel and crew to manage in order to safely navigate the seas.

When preparing for an Atlantic crossing, it is important to research the expected weather conditions for the route.

Knowing the weather conditions that may be expected on the route can help to determine the size of the yacht that is suitable for the voyage.

For example, if the route is expected to experience strong winds, it is best to choose a larger yacht that is capable of handling the windy conditions.

Additionally, if the route passes through areas with higher than average waves, a larger yacht is much more suitable for the voyage.

It is also important to consider the type of emergency services available along the route.

In the event of an emergency, such as a medical emergency or a vessel in distress, a larger yacht is more likely to be able to access the necessary help.

Additionally, a larger yacht will be able to carry more supplies, such as food, water, and other equipment, which can be essential in an emergency situation.

Overall, the size of the yacht for an Atlantic crossing should be based on the number of people on board, the size and type of the crew, the length of the voyage, the route of the crossing, the type of weather that is expected, and the type of emergency services available along the way.

With the right amount of research and planning, the perfect size yacht can be chosen for a successful and safe Atlantic crossing.

Emergency Services Available

yacht named atlantic

When planning a transatlantic crossing, it is important to consider the type of emergency services available along the route.

On a smaller vessel, you may not be able to access all of the necessary services, so it is important to choose a vessel with enough room to accommodate the necessary crew and equipment, as well as enough fuel to reach the destination in the event of an emergency.

When considering the size of the yacht, the type of emergency services available should be carefully assessed.

For example, if you are crossing during hurricane season, it is important to choose a vessel that can withstand the high winds and potentially heavy waves.

If you are crossing in an area where search and rescue services are available, it is important to have a vessel large enough to be spotted quickly.

It is also important to consider the type of emergency services available at ports of call along the route.

If you are traveling to a remote area, it is important to have a vessel with enough room to accommodate the necessary crew and equipment to make port in the event of an emergency.

If you are traveling to a port with a significant presence of medical and emergency personnel, it is important to have a vessel large enough to accommodate the necessary personnel.

Overall, the size of the yacht for a transatlantic crossing should be based on the purpose of the voyage, the number of people on board, the size and type of crew, the length of the voyage, the route of the crossing, the type of weather that is expected, and the type of emergency services available along the way.

By taking all of these factors into consideration, you can ensure that you have the best possible vessel for your crossing.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the size of yacht for an Atlantic crossing is an important decision that requires careful planning.

The size of the yacht should be determined by the number of people on board, the size and type of the crew, the length of the voyage, the route of the crossing, the weather conditions, and the availability of emergency services.

Ultimately, the size of the yacht should be based on the purpose of the crossing and the preferences of the crew.

With the right information and careful consideration, you can make an informed decision on the right size yacht to choose for your Atlantic crossing.

Tropics should remain quiet until end of July but 'don't let your guard down'

AccuWeather forecasters are predicting the tropics should remain quiet until the end of the month due to Saharan dust and strong wind shear in the Atlantic basin. Both tend to decrease the risk for storms to develop or strengthen.

"We're in the doldrums of the season," said Alex DaSilva,  AccuWeather  lead hurricane expert. "There's always the possibility, but we don't see (another Beryl) happening."

By the end of July or beginning of August, tropical activity could ramp up.

"We're still  expecting a very, very busy season ," DaSilva said. "Don't let your guard down. Don't be fooled by the quiet period. We're at the very beginning of hurricane season. It will ramp up and it could ramp up very quickly."

The next storm of the se ason will be Debby.

Points of origin for tropical cyclones between 1851 and 2015. Where do July storms form?

From July 11 through July 20, tropical cyclones' point of origin generally are clustered off the eastern coast of the U.S., in the Gulf of Mexico and near the Windward Islands.

That's not the case for the final days of July. Based on historical data, from July 21 through July 31, many named storms form off the eastern coast of Florida south toward the eastern tip of Cuba and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Other storms do form elsewhere, including the stretch of Atlantic between the coast of Africa and the Caribbean.

Data from the National Hurricane Center breaks down where named storms originated between 1851 and 2015.

Where do named storms 'tend to occur' in July?

Based on analysis from 1944 to 2020, National Hurricane Center maps show July storms tend to pop up off the eastern coast of Florida and the U.S., east and west of the Windward Islands, and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Where do most July hurricanes occur?

Between 1944 and 2020, between five and 19 hurricanes have passed within 150 nautical miles off the coast of Northeast Florida and the eastern coast of the U.S., and the Gulf of Mexico from northeast Mexico to the western tip of Florida's Panhandle.
