Victoria 67 Catamaran

  • By Mark Pillsbury
  • Updated: January 6, 2015

French catamaran builder Fountaine Pajot uses the term “flagship” to denote the largest and most luxurious sailboats in its line of multihulls. In the case of the newly launched Victoria, it’s a name that fits both figuratively and quite literally.

With a length overall of nearly 67 feet, and a little over 31 feet of beam, the Victoria replaces the Galathea 65 as queen of the FP cruising cat fleet. It’s a big boat, one that I suspect will be sailed by a captain and crew as often as by an owner with family and friends (layouts are available for both scenarios).

Stepping aboard during the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, last fall, I was struck by the sensible use of interior and exterior space and the flow of the design, from cockpit and saloon to staterooms in each hull, and aloft to my favorite spot: atop the flybridge, where the work of sailing and the joy of voyaging can both be savored.

Did I mention that the view’s great sitting at the two-person helm seat that’s offset to starboard? Amidships on the forward edge of the flybridge is a bank of four Antal winches for handling main, traveler, reefing lines, and genoa and gennaker sheets (the latter sail is set on a flexible furler forward of the headsail). Though the sail plan is sized for power — more than 2,000 square feet with main and genoa set — there’s gear placed and sized correctly so that the boat is really fairly simple to sail.

For those who prefer lounging to sheet trimming, comfortable couches line the remainder of the flybridge, with two cocktail tables aft and a fridge and sink in the middle of everything. You reach the flybridge via stairs on either side.

In the cockpit below, a cushioned sun bed spans the transom, and two more lie in the shade of the flybridge to either side of a teak dining table that seats 10. The cockpit space flows smoothly into the “urban-chic” interior designed by Isabelle Racoupeau (Berret-Racoupeau and the FP design team were responsible for the overall boat).

There’s tons of room to entertain, cook or simply enjoy life at sea in the spacious saloon. I was smitten by the galley to starboard. It’s fitted out with a full-size fridge and freezer, glass-topped counters, four-burner stove, electric oven and dishwasher, and tons of storage spaces. And I could easily picture myself perched at the nav station in the forward port corner, ready for a night watch no matter the elements outdoors.

In the owner’s version ( Maestro ) that we visited, three cabins with queen berths, each with its own head and shower, fill the starboard hull; access is via two companionways. To port, a single companionway leads to an enormous owner’s suite aft and a forward cabin with two singles, a handy place to tuck kids or grandkids. A crewed layout is also available with three cabins in each hull, plus a double crew cabin forward to port.

Unfortunately, on the day of our sea trials, the breeze was quite light; still, in 6 or so knots of wind the speedo hovered around 5 knots. The boat responded smartly under the power of its two 110 horsepower Volvos with conventional shafts. The design, styling and construction of the Victoria — infused and cored hull, deck and bimini —are all top-notch. In a stiff breeze, say the tropical trades, my guess would be that this flagship would turn in some excellent days at sea.

VICTORIA 67

Fountaine Pajot's first superyacht, the Victoria 67 catamaran features a sleek exterior design complete with full flydeck, an innovation in the shipyard's extensive sailing range. The flydeck of the Victoria 67 is accessible on both sides by a highly secured stairway and is one of the most appreciated on-board living spaces with benches, side tables and a relaxing sofa.

Expansive passageways, built-in equipment, separate living areas, subtle lines and a carefully considered floor plan create a highly functional and eminently elegant interior. The huge saloon is gently bathed in light from an expanse of panoramic windows.

The Victoria 67 exceeds previous benchmarks in terms of space and style and has the largest sail area, the biggest interior volume and the most expansive owner's suite of the Fountaine Pajot range.

VICTORIA 67 The flybridge catamaran according to Fountaine Pajot

The Victoria 67: balanced lines, nice proportions. An attractive catamaran!

With 20 knots of wind, the Victoria eats up the miles at between 10 and 12 knots…

Under way, this 67-footer is lively and manoeuvrable on all points of sailing.

The favourite area on a catamaran, the 67’s cockpit is particularly well-protected.

The Victoria’s interior architecture has been the subject of a lot of work.

The chef will have a tremendous time in this ‘urban chic’ area.

The chart table facing the sea is equipped with a proper reclining chair.

The France-based builder launches the Victoria 67', its very first catamaran topped with a flydeck. This innovation represents a sharp break with the historical position of the manufacturer, who never designed this architecture on boats under 65'. We spent 2 days on board, after the 2013 Grand Pavois boat show, to share with you our first sensations

Fountaine Pajot conquering the multi-yacht

With the Sanya 57 and the Helia 44, the Charente-based builder opened a new chapter in its industrial history, asserting an aggressive technical and design move that visitors to these models had detected since 2011. It is not strictly speaking a break with the adventure which has continued since the advent of the Louisiane in 1983, but rather a leap forward in quality, supported by reading about the expectations of the international clientele which represents nearly 80% of their sales! This little internal revolution is also supported by a company strategy, introduced several years ago, as much from the technical point of view (innovations in infusion and injection) as the organizational, with a view to producing bigger boats. The Aigrefeuilles site is a superb installation, but its geographic position implies road transport to the sea, and limits the size to 45’. At the end of the 90s, the group therefore set itself up in La Rochelle, in the former SCAN seaplane factory, and diversified its activity with the Iris catamarans (fast modular ferries). The two huge 2500m² cells with direct access to the sea have allowed Fountaine-Pajot to ...

This video documents journalists of Multihulls World Magazine’s Test Review on the Fountaine Pajot Flagship Victoria 67.

Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 Review – What Makes Her Stand Out!

victoria 67 catamaran

The Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 is a vessel that makes finding faults a difficult task. I have always been struck by the Fountaine Pajot policy of staying modern by utilizing only tried and true technology in their boats.

This method makes these boats cutting-edge, but only after all the technical issues have been worked out and the newest addition to savvy innovations has been proven.

My Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 review will discuss what makes the vessel stand out from the rest and what keeps it in line with all the other modern catamarans available for charter.

If you’ve already decided on which cat to charter, this review may change your mind, so be warned!

Table of Contents

Accommodation

The Victoria has impressive accommodation options for guests and the crew. A 6-cabin layout can be chosen with 4 large cabins and 2 smaller cabins, or a 5-cabin option that features 2 large bedrooms with 3 smaller cabins.

In both layouts, each cabin is equipped with a head, and the main cabins have showers. The crew cabins are housed in the bow.

It should be noted that the Victoria 67 comes with 3 crews, but the vessel is large enough to accommodate large parties and the required number of crew members to operate the vessel properly.

The first time I saw the galley and saloon below deck, I likened it to a luxury apartment. The galley is huge by boat standards and has lots of counter space for the chef to work.

Its central location makes it easy to watch meals being prepared or to converse as you and the guests lounge around the saloon. The windows provide a 360-degree view of the water and sky outside.

If the stars are out and the sky is clear, you will be in for a particular treat! Storage below the deck is ample, with queen-sized berths in the cabins and galley.

It was also nice having a lot of headroom; though I’m not particularly tall, it’s much better than feeling cramped or having to stoop over constantly.

The flybridge was our favorite entertainment spot during our trip. Only the worst kind of weather could convince us to abandon the lounge area, which is large and perfectly situated in order to enjoy the company of the captain.

The flybridge is equipped with a refrigerator and a sink, so you have almost no reason to venture below deck until it can’t be helped. A stairway on either side of the flybridge increases the access to the deck.

The cockpit was our natural hideout whenever the rain didn’t cooperate with our plans. We had sunbathing beds and a dining table in our cockpit, which made it especially easy to move our little party around.

The Victoria’s incredible power under sail is aided by the mainsail and the genoa sheet. Even in poor winds, the sails manage to catch what there is, and the boat will average around 6-8 knots.

This, of course, is ramped up in better conditions, but we were cursed with low winds for much of our trip.

Fortunately, we didn’t miss out on much because we were busy enjoying other aspects of the Victoria.

Why Sail the Victoria 67

  • Up-to-date technology and design
  • Huge amounts of space
  • Comfortable, roomy lounge areas
  • Big galley that can be moved around easily
  • Lots of cabins and room for crew
  • Intimate and fun flybridge and cockpit design that encourage socialization.
  • Fantastic views from everywhere on the boat, above and below deck

In Conclusion

The Victoria 67 is a big boat, but that’s just stating the most obvious fact!

It’s true that Victoria’s size is an asset and makes everything else that much more comfortable because of it, but I if the rest of its parts weren’t as well-chosen, this would just be a big boat that was okay to sail.

Instead, the Victoria is almost like a floating luxury hotel with the crew aboard.

I always suggest to friends (and anyone who will listen) who are considering a cruise to charter a Fontaine Pajot Victoria 67 as an alternative.

It’s more private, and personalized, and you don’t have to deal with any strangers who aren’t part of the crew.

Enjoy your next vacation on the Victoria, and bring the whole family, because there’s plenty of room!

Going to admit, I’mt not into yacht-life (I’m more often a fan of the country side). This is a great review page, but definately…it is for the wealthy that’s not me (for he moment at least)! The specifications are good and detailed, and very helpful to boat enthusiasts or people wanting to rent for their clubs or organizations.

Sailing is not only for wealthy people, but it is also for anyone who would like to spend a lovely holiday on the water. The prices vary depending on the boat and there are great deals as well. There are other options to sail at a low cost. Here is an article about this subject “ What is a cabin charter ” Please take a look, you may change your mind!

Thank you for the comment.

I wish you a nice day!

Hello there,

Wow that’s a great website, i hope on day to try this cruse with Victoria 67 Catamaran looks amazing and i like the colors harmony, i was planning to travel with my wife to Europe in the next year but the price is too high for me i would be happy to see other Yacht which is cheaper than this.

I would suggest you rent a cabin on a yacht, it’s a wonderful way to enjoy sailing at an affordable price:)

Here is a nice article about “ What is a cabin charter ” that I have written recently. Please take a look, I am sure you’ll find this very interesting.

Thank you for the comment

I wish you a great day!

The yacht looks very nice. I didn’t know that yachts are spacious. The article is well written. You wrote enough information for a person to understand what yachts are. The video was very good at giving a view of the outside and inside of the yacht. Great job. Keep up the good work. Strive for Success.

I am glad you like the article.

Thank you for the comment and wish you a great day!

It is truly a magnificent boat! The interior design and accomodations are beautiful! What has astonished me the most is the incredible interior space. Like you said, it’s a real apartment! What a thrill it certainly is to sail on board this wonderful ship! And the whole family can be invited! A real see princess!

Yes it’s a floating luxury apartment and there is enough space for the whole family!

I wish you a wonderful day!

Hi! First of all I’d like to say that sailing is one of my addiction. Back in 70’s, when I was a young boy sailing on Optimist and Cadet class small sailboats enjoy me every single hour after school. Recent years I have been invited on cruise oceangoing yachts as navigator and spent long beautiful days on board. Competing in different regattas or charter sailing trips I enjoy a lot. Actually I was twice as skipper on 35 footer in Eastern Mediterranean but never as passenger.

Nice to hear that you love the sea 🙂

Maybe it’s time for you to cherish yourself as a passenger!

Thank you for the comment and wish you a wonderful day!

What a beautiful boat. I am not really into sailing but a week on this baby could go a long way to converting me. It is so beautifully designed and so very spacious and comfortable. reading your article made me so envious. I guess if I have to ask the price I can’t afford it can I? but gee it is is free to dream. Lovely site.

Hi Margaret,

The price is written just above the article, but this is not the final price. There are great deals on the official website. You can take a look if you wish:)

Thank you for the comment and wish you all the best!

What a dream come true to take a vessel like that out for a week. Sheer luxury floating on the water. I took a peak at the charter website and the prices are obviously reflective of the quality you would get. So for me maybe a smaller boat, but I can alway dream. Do you prefer mono hulls or cats??

Yes, you are right, you usually get what you pay for, but they are great boats at low prices as well. The cost will also depend on many other factors, like the destination, the crew, the length of the vessel and of course, the time you’ll go sailing.

I personally, I prefer Cats for many reasons. Here is a nice article about Catamaran vs Monohull sailing , I am sure you’ll find this blog very interesting.

Thank you for the comment and wish you to sail very soon:)

Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67

The Luxurious Catamaran Victoria 67

The recent range of the Fountaine Pajot catamarans has really amazed me, both as a skipper and as a guest aboard their vessels. The largest yacht is the  Fountaine Pajot Victoria 67 . It has been declared as their new flagship, as the studio of naval architects Berret Racoupeau gave their best to design this remarkable catamaran. Her elegant and contemporary lines, as well as the interior and deck layouts, exude excellence, luxury and comfort.

The first thing to notice about the Victoria 67 is her spacious and comfortable flybridge , divided into the helm and a lounge area . The steering wheel, winches and hammers are placed close to the skipper’s area . In the lounge area , maximal comfort is provided by large and spacious benches, sofas and a small bar in the center of the flybridge space. This layout allows the skipper to do his job, while the guests can enjoy on the top of the vessel , experiencing the excitement of sailing without losing any of the comfort.

There is a small bimini top above the skipper to protect him from the sun. If the sun gets too hot, the guests can descend to the cockpit using two highly secured stairways , one at the each side of the flybridge. There is a large foldable table with the sofas around it, while the sunbathing platform astern hides a tender . This way, an extra lounge space is created, while the tender is safely attached below the platform, avoiding unpleasant bouncing while sailing.

The swimming area is rather generous in comparison to some other catamarans. The two winches attached to the each side of the stern are there not only to control the mighty 150m² gennaker , but also to help with the stern lines . Although the Victoria 67 is 20.32 m long, her 9.5 m beam and a low barycenter guarantee considerable stability, which contributes to the overall feeling of comfort and safety.

The remarkable performances under sail are achieved by a square-headed 118m² mainsail and a 84 m² genoa . Furthermore, thanks to high performance solar panels placed on the rear end of the flybridge, the Victoria 67 is completely self-sufficient at anchor. They produce power of 680 W , 28 A at 24 V – considerable figures in terms of energy efficiency. The energy consumption is additionally reduced by the use of LED technology for all navigation lights, the interior and for the mystical deck night illumination , which gives the Victoria 67 an elegant vibe at night. Speaking of power, the Victoria 67 is powered by two 110 HP engines supported by a 1400 l diesel tank , while the fresh water is kept in a 1000 l capacity tank .

The elegant and spacious saloon is separated into three areas – the galley , the lounge area and the chart table . The 360° view is provided by large panoramic glass walls all over the saloon. The front part of the saloon is reserved for the skipper’s working area, which includes the chart table, navigational and communication instruments, charts and the logbook. In the rear part, there is the lounge area with a large sofa and a table, as well as a galley, well equipped with cooking devices, refrigerators and storage areas. A working platform and a sink form a small bar which separates the galley from the lounge area , but still allows communication between the guests and the chef who prepares specialties for dinner.

There are two versions of Victoria 67 in terms of interior layout. The 6 cabin version offers four larger double bedrooms and two smaller ones, while each of them is equipped with its own bathroom. The below decks can be accessed through two stairways in each hull. The crew can be accommodated in two small bow cabins. The MAESTRO version hides a large master bedroom in the port hull. The bedroom is equipped with a private bathroom and a lounge. The second cabin in the port hull can be arranged as a twin double bedroom. The starboard hull is equipped with three double bedrooms, each with their own bathrooms.

Considering the number of people that can be accommodated aboard the Victoria 67, it might be rather tricky for the chef to prepare food for all of them. Although the Victoria 67 is comfortable enough for a large group, I would not invite the maximal number of people aboard if the provision of food and beverages is not organized down to the smallest detail.

All in all, thanks to the knowledge and effort of the designers’ team, the Victoria 67 provides an incredible sailing experience . To learn more about chartering a catamaran, visit Sailing Catamaran Yachts .

I wish you a calm sea, a fine wind and a strong mast!

Waking up to a new paradise each morning is a unique experience reserved for just the fortunate few. It's a dream we yearn for. Can you imagine it for yourself?

Arguably the most elegant yacht of its size

The Alegria 67 catamaran shares the same design philosophy as the Samana 59, but with an extra touch of decadence

With a waterline length of over 20 metres, it’s only logical that the Alegria 67 should include the quality of equipment and features worthy of this boat’s status as a true yacht. We have certainly achieved that, and more. Among its remarkable original features is the boat’s centrepiece, a large jacuzzi in the forward cockpit, which you can fill with sea or fresh water, according to your preference. Why not try both options and then decide for yourself? Luxury should always be experienced at its optimum.

Thanks to this expertise, we can make our catamarans considerably lighter while maintaining consistent quality . Injection also makes it possible to meet the most stringent environmental requirements, in line with the commitments of the Fountaine Pajot Group.

VICTORIA 67 – MAGEC

MAGEC is a 20-meter luxury catamarán launched by Fountain Pajot of France back in 2014. She was designed by Berret Racoupeau studio as the flagship of the shipyard and as a direct response to hugely successful Lagoon 620s and Sunreef 62’ super yachts, thus satisfying the most discerning yacht charter guests in terms of performance, styling, safety and comfort on board. As is the case with other luxury sailing catamarans offered for private yacht charter cruises in the Caribbean or the Mediterranean, the fully protected cockpit with deck lounge and sun-bridge, the panoramic saloon in the interior and obligatory flybridge are the main features which attract all returning guests.
