When the Privilege 45 was launched in 1995, it was voted the BEST CRUISING CATAMARAN by Cruising World Magazine. Since then, the Privilege 45 has proved its versatility for both cruising and chartering. For cruising, the stout construction is unrivaled in its class for layup strength and stiffness under sail. The owners have had no cracks in the keel or bridgedeck-to-hull areas and no leaky tanks – problems that can plague the newer catamarans. Most newer catamarans feature sail drives because they are easy for the manufacture to install. Saildrives are prone to leaky seals, worn bearings, and short life spans. The Privilege 45 has more reliable straight shafts. In 2007 the owners added MAX props. The result is little or no drag under sail and surprising performance for a cruising catamaran. The Privilege 45 has a large cockpit than most cats her size, comfortably accommodating 8 passengers. The teak cockpit table seats 6 guests, making her ideal for chartering. The French built Privilege yacht is known for its rich, warm interior, unlike the stark white no-frills interiors of most South African catamarans. The boat features warm, honey colored European Beech throughout. We can state with confidence that this P45 is the best-conditioned P45 on the market today. The owners have made extensive upgrades & improvements each year while building a successful charter business. We are proud to offer this Privilege 45 Catamaran, built in 1995 by Jeantot Marine. The Privilege is an excellent choice for comfortable and safe cruising and is fully equipped for charter, from linens to boat toys. For the cruiser, you won’t find a more solidly built catamaran than the Privilege. So whether you are looking for a turn-key business opportunity or a boat to sail around the world, this Privilege 45 is ready to go.

Privilège Catamarans were launched back in the eighties by Philippe Jeantot (twice world champion in single-handed sailing and founder of the Vendee Globe) and René Bernard through the Jeantot Marine Shipyard in Les Sables d’Olonne.
In 1996, the shipyard was sold to a new owner (La Groupe SGGR) and was renamed Alliaura Marine.
Privilege Marine Shipyard, controlled by Gilles Wagner became the new owners from 2012 until Hanse Yachts bought the Privilege brand, moulds and shipyard in 2017. In 2022, Hanse announced that they would be selling their shareholding.
Hanse have launched 3 designs: the Signature 510, the Signature 580 and the Signature 650. They continue to build the Series 740 (the flagship) from Privilege Marine days.
Marc Lombard got involved with the brand back in 1987 and has been heavily involved with the designs since that time.
Privilege are famous for producing high quality cruising catamarans: the focus is on quality rather than quantity. One of the key design features over the years has been the large owner’s suite located into the forward nacelle. As well as creating more living space, this structure provides buoyancy in heavy seas and stiffness to the whole structure. These strong cats ae known for their stability and seaworthiness.
The build quality and finishing of a Privilege is a step above the competition, and this is reflected in their strong resale values.

Privilege 45 for offshore cruising?
- Add to quote
Hi everyone, no experience at all with multihulls but I'm toying with the idea of considering seriously a Privilege 45 (1995 model). Does anyone have any experience with them in the context of blue water cruising? There seem to be a bunch of articles suggesting that cats slam worryingly during passages, how does the P45 score in that regard? Other comments about its suitability for this type of use? Any known weak areas that I should pay attention to while inspecting the boat? Any other cat in the same price bracket and size that you think may be more suitable? I'm just starting the investigation on the Privilege because I think I prefer the layout more, but there may be more important considerations to weigh in. I thought it was interesting that the stove on all Privileges that I looked at, were not gimbaled! Is that common on cats? Obviously they don't heal, but what about passage making in heavy seas? Is single-handing possible, and docking with just the wife assisting? Average annual maintenance costs when cruising (assuming no deferred maintenance) for a cat of that size? How limiting is your cat when mooring, and do you typically have to pay extra because of beam (how much roughly)? There are some rumors going around the monohull community that cats rock weirdly, making some people very seasick, is there any truth there or is it just old wife's tales? Last but not least, any recommendations on how to build skills for transiting from monohulls to cats (i.e. handling differences, heavy weather tactics, etc..)? I'm not very experienced in monohulls either anyway. Many thanks guys, and apologies for being all over the place with these questions.
I've never sailed a cat, so MHO may be worthless, but I have done some reading. 1) Slamming: cats can, depending on the hight of the bridge. Just slow down. Since a cat can't heel to release energy, it's converted to speed. When you can't stand there because it's accelerating from 10 to 20 it's time to reef. Big cat sailing in a gale-Awesome waves, and sail control.avi - YouTube 2) gimbaled stoves: You'll also won't find cup holders. Unnecessary. MULTIHULLS: 1995 Privilege 45' Catamaran For Sale: VELERO - YouTube 3) Maintenance. A x length cat has 1.5 times the storeage of a x length mono. So I assume the maintenance is also 1.5 the corresponding mono. Docking is a different matter, you take up two slips or must be on the end. 4) Cats don't rock. Sounds like "land sickness" in "Water World." 5) Handling. Cats come in 3 variations, 1-2 wheels rear outside (Priv45, good visibility to dock, wetter steering.) Inside cabin and outside, not so much. I assume you get use to it, like changing from a sports car to a RV. I suggest renting out one for a trip or day sale before deciding mono/cat.
I've had a PRIVILEGE 39 1991 for the last few years. I used to take it out day sailing out of Brunswick Ga when I first got it to get experience. Best wind was 25 knots solo, it does great and is manageable. The boat is easy to sail and control. I brought it around from Punta Gorda, Fl to Jacksonville last month. I wanted to get through the Keys by a Friday afternoon and the seas were 8-10 ft. NEVER again will l push the boat motoring into those or bigger seas. It sounds like a sledge hammer on the bottom. I have a hatch in the cabin that goes down in case the boat ever capsized and I found that is NOT watertight. Another thing added to my list to fix. I've done one bottom painting and the boat is in pretty good shape. I found a surplus hatch a couple of years ago and we are replacing those one at a time, putting in solar vent fans etc. The boat is easy to sail and has a decent reputation about being able to take it. I looked at some of EXIT ONLY's videos on their circumnavigation before I bought this boat. Dave can probably answer any questions you have.
Thanks a lot guys, very helpful.
biggest drawback to me on the 45 style is the lack of vis from the saloon. deal breaker for me. not only for living on the hook but moving in nasty weather, i can drive from the saloon w/AP remote.

We sailed our mono (Moody 46) about 27,000nm from 2008 to summer 2011. We changed to a Lagoon 440 last summer and have put about 3,800nm on her including 1,500nm to weather. I looked at the Privilege and they are nice well built boats. In terms of being an "offshore" boat people read way too much into that. These production cats are all built a bit on the cheap side but are all worthy of crossing oceans, in fact they all do. Passagemaking is more about how you manage the weather and seas, i.e., how you sail. The boat will rarely be the weak link. This, all assuming you are not sailing high latitudes, that's a different animal (and boat). Every boat of course has pro/con. I like the Lagoon for the inside vis as at night and in bad weather I am comfortable inside (we have a steering and nav station inside). No different from being in the pilot house of a motor vessel other then I have to go out every few hours to check sail/rig for any issue. The high boom is pretty much a non-issue and allows for great sailing from the viewpoint of the flybridge. I love it! Bottom line, if you found a Privilege you like for the right price buy it. For live-aboard the cat's are very hard to beat. The Privilege is a bit more expensive then many but the wood-work shows it. Other production cats in that size to look at are the Lagoons, Leopards (Robertson and Caine), and the Anteries (or older PDQ), and Manta's. Avoid those out of charter unless you are prepared to do a major re-fit. Any of these cats (assuming you have done survey etc.) will take you around the globe via the normal trade wind routes safer and faster then most cruising mono's, and you will be the one not rolling at anchor!
I own a 1995 Privilege 45 that I purchased two years ago. I've done a number of projects on her and am quite intimate with the systems, design and construction. I can tell you that, having looked at and sailed quite a few cats before purchasing the P45, IMHO the Privilege line is one of the best built production boats on the water. They are a very stable platform while underway or at anchor. I'd be happy to talk with you about what I've learned since owning this boat if you'd like to forward your contact information.

Cats are almost always better at anchor but there is a particular set of wind wave conditions that can produce a small but rapid pitch roll movement that is quite disconcerting. It is almost always possible to 'tune' this out by taking a line from the stern to the anchor chain releasing the bridle from the opposite side and winching in on the line untill you are head to the swell.

DESIGN – INTERIOR & EXTERIOR
Since the creation of the boatyard in 1985, Privilege 585 builder Alliaura Marine was fundamental among the leaders in the high-end multihulls market. With the help of renowned naval architect Marc Lombard, the Privilege series succeeded in establishing a bespoke family of yachts that meet the highest possible expectation. An innovative designer combined with outstanding craftsmanship resulted in the creation of this strong, comfortable, and powerful catamaran.

With storage lockers underfloor, a rack for scuba-diving cylinders is situated in the aft locker and adequate space to store a diving compressor securely. Plenty of storage is available for the dive gear, kitesurfing and stand up paddleboards in this uncluttered and ample space.
Forward, there is a vast deck space with large sunbathing areas, two trampolines with pulpits, and four teak seats suitable for enjoying sundowners. The bimini is quite large, adequately providing protection, and also providing space for solar panels.
Through the oversized aluminum sliding door, three steps lead down into the spacious saloon. Large windows give exceptional panoramic views both for peace of mind and the simple pleasures of viewing your picturesque surroundings. Signature 650
Good ideas are permanent, introducing the new signature 650.
The New Signature 650 is an evolution of the Series 640 and builds on the same proven offshore hull design. The collaboration between Franck Darnet and Marc Lombard combines sailing performance with living comfort.
Note: with the exception of the renders, the photos and videos presentation are of the Series 640
adjustable interior layout
The adjustable interior layouts on the new Privilège Signature 650 reflect the individual nature of the yacht owner. The versatile convertible layouts available with the galley down version adapt to all your living requirements – from casual lounging to formal dining and everything in between. The salon aboard the new Signature 650 is larger than its predecessor and the windows at the front have been set further forward and closer to the vertical.
more windows | headroom
An additional side window to port and a large forward-facing panoramic window above the king-size bed provide maximum natural light in the master suite. The headroom has been raised to just over 6.5 feet, so that even tall sailors will find a comfortable space. The ensuite bathroom can be set up in the port bow to create additional space for storage and a sofa, or more centrally in the compact version of the master suite.
New redesigned deck
The foredeck has been redesigned to be completely flush, while the trampoline nets have been optimized for safe working, even in rough seas. The wide side decks are also fitted with flush hatches and, together with the high guard rail, ensure a high level of safety at sea.
Another new feature is the teak sun lounge in front of the forward salon windows, which is slightly raised and protected from the wind on both sides.
aft-facing lounge in cockpit
The cockpit has been lowered to create a step-free connection to the salon. This allows for a seamless living space between the salon and the cockpit. There are two large, upholstered sunpads to port and starboard, a seating area with dining table, and a rear bench and a completely new sun lounger with a view over the wake. The aft seat also has a large storage garage for water toys underneath it.
The optional hydraulic tender platform can comfortably launch an 600kg tender. And an electric grill, an ice maker and a mini-bar round out the main upgrades. The stairway to the flybridge leads directly from the cockpit features elegant teak steps and a comfortable handrail.
flybridge & rigging
The flybridge offers a large U-lounge with a table as well as a fully equipped helm station to starboard. From here, all lines can be operated via four large winches. There is the option of a second helm station to port. The double helm station can be fitted with a fixed bimini with an awning over the lounge area.
Compared to the Serie 640, the optional carbon rig has an extra 19.7 inches (50cm) in the mast and an 11.8 inches (30cm) longer boom that adds 32 sq. ft. ( 3m²) to the genoa and 64.5 sq. ft. (6m²) to the mainsail. The mast is now located on the forward edge of the coachroof, which means a tidier forecastle, better visibility from the salon, and more efficient line management as lines are routed directly to the helm station.
optional layouts
The Signature 650 is built to your specific requirements. The new 5 cabin layout configuration provides additional separate crew quarters in the forepeak. One bow always serves as a sail locker.
There are two guest cabins aft with fine views through the hull window from the double berth. Each cabin has its own shower and heads.
Of course, the option for a four cabin configuration is still available and is tailored to your cruising aspirations.

Brand: Privilege 482
The Priviledge 482 is an updated version of the 48 and at the time was one of the most luxurious catamarans in production. Mast height and sail area had been increased, backstays eliminated and all sail controls led back to the cockpit resulting in a boat that performs better and is easier to sail.
